i love that the crime and punishment fandom specific trope is to have the canon couples get married for convenience, move in together, and then swap partners behind closed doors

Hey do you ever think about how when Raskolnikov came to Sonya for the cross, she took both crosses out of the drawer, crossed herself, crossed him, and then hung the respective crosses around their necks?? As in, until he got there, she wasn’t wearing a cross either. It wasn’t just Sonya saving Rodya. They took up their suffering together. They saved each other.

Sonya: Dear friends, mortality is something we all have to be reminded of in scary doses. Please call those you love today and tell them so.
Raskolnikov: I've called 4 people to remind them they are going to die. None of them appreciated it.

Dostoevsky’s ever-present yet unnamed narrator: Ah yes, the four love languages…
Narrator, pointing at Sonya: “My family never told me they were proud of me”
Narrator, pointing at Dunya: “I'm so fucking tired please god just let me rest for five minutes”
Narrator, pointing at Raskolnikov: “Pay attention to me”
Narrator, pointing at Razumikhin: and touch-starved.
