So I only recently learned about the existence of the Sodor Fallout AU. Tell me why when I learned that James' mutation caused him to grow three mouths, my immediate first thought was "I sure hope Edward kisses each one so he can feel better".

I absolutely love Sodor Fallout and I'm surprised it took me this long to finish a drawing of it. Since I'm feeling better now I was able to put full effort into this and I love how it turned out!
There's also a Speedpaint of this up on my YouTube channel if you're interested!

WARNING: BODY GORE, BLOOD, INJURY, HOLES, D34TH.
“From: Edward Stewart
To: Scotley ‘Scotsman’ Gresley
Dear Scott,
I've come back as the bearer of unfortunate news.
As you now from my previous letter, Duck and Donald had been out for a very concerning amount of time when we simply asked them to retrieve supplies from the old local store last night. We decided to check in the morning as we had a standoff with uninvited guests in our hiding place.
What we found was exactly what I had feared.
They've both been killed. Donald was found along the tracks with holes on his body. From head to toe.
Duck was not so different, as he found him laying on a goods train with similar injuries. We speculated that this wasn’t from the disease or the troops, but rather something else. How lovely, more problems. Am I right?
But that wasn't what disturbed me. When we found Duck's body, despite the numerous, painful looking wounds all over his body...
His face was forever frozen with a smile
Why he was smiling? I have no clue.
We have no clue who or what put him in such a happy state even when he was standing in front of death itself.
But one thing’s for sure, we'll never know the reason why. Can’t really ask a dead body what his final moments were before his insides were ripped out of him now, can you?”

I gotta say, despite tidmouththunderbolt being an ass to fan creators, sodor fallout is still one of my favorite horror creations in the thomas fandom.
As well as sovereign mind, although it’s just one video and not a whole series.
Thomas horror is something i think the fandom should definitely appreciate more and we should get plenty more fanworks!
I wanted to contribute, although I can’t exactly draw or use trainz to make videos, I thought i’d come up with an au of my own!
I call it ‘Sodor: Unknown’ and I’d like to think of it as a found footage sort of thing. Here’s a brief description:
Decades ago, the island of sodor was shut down and blocked off from the rest of the world out of the blue without an explanation. The world kept turning, but no one ever figured out what happened or why. Until one day, a film student and a group of her friends bribe a sailor to take them to Sodor so she can film a final project for her college.
The woman, i’ll call her Cat, used to love thomas and it sparked an interest in wanting to become a driver herself. The books, the tv show, they were all apart of her childhood, until Sodor was shut down mysteriously and all thomas content was cut from tv and books were pulled from the shelves. As she grew up, she switched to an interest in film and realized an amazing final work before graduation would be to solve the mystery and broadcast it to the general public, as well as considering it a way to close a chapter in her life.
However, when they arrive, things are unfortunately not what they seem.
During the course of several days, Cat and her group of friends discover that most of Sodor’s engines have become mutants, and the mystery behind why is just as disturbing as what the engines have become. Similar to Sodor Fallout, the government had forced Sir Topham Hatt to lend them an old line for government testing, where something of course went wrong and caused a horrible viral illness to cross the entire island…which only effected the engines and in turn caused most engines to mutate into flesh eating monsters, violent and aggressive, and so the entire island had been shut down and evacuated while the government tried to cover it up.
Now, because the sailor had never returned, Cat has to find a way off the island herself without being eaten or crushed, all while documenting the horrifying truth.
More specific details:
Henry is my favorite so he totally survives. I think he’d be the main engine that Cat finds and tries to drive as a means of escape. The end obviously has these two cross the bridge to the mainland and survive
Other engines will survive too! Although I’m not quite sure who yet. Another I want to survive is James for sure. Oh! And Diesel or 10.
Cat’s friends will NOT survive. The first person to die does so by a classic jumpscare. They’re walking down the road at a crossing, one of them notices that the tracks don’t look overgrown despite the rest of the island being overgrown, and brings it up. Someone else stops on the tracks and turns around to say something to brush it off like ‘well they’re not being RUN ON. This island’s been abandoned for twenty years! There’s no running eng-‘ and then BOOM! Without any noise or warning, Gordon thunders down the line and runs over their friend in a gory display and kills them instantly.
The island of sodor is apart of the real world, the Rev writing stories about the engines after visiting and thus creating a growing franchise and bringing people’s attention to these beautiful talking engines. So the books and tv show existed in the same world as the real island.
The island is shut down after government experiments sometime around the early 2000’s. I would say after TATMR but it really doesn’t matter when, it’s just been shut down for about twenty years.
The mutated trains can move themselves without a driver or fireman. However the engines who were lucky enough to not be infected or killed, the engines in hiding, still need a driver and fireman like any regular engine.
Not all mutated engines are killers. Some are lucky enough to survive with just a fucked up face and no murderous personality although i don’t have much else to add to this idea at the moment.
Shoot me a dm or an ask if you want to talk more about this au! I’d love to build the world and brainstorm ideas to add onto this! And go ahead and make content of this au if you’d like as well! I’d kill to see more found footage thomas content in this fandom :)

Sharing my review on Sodor Fallout
Disclaimer: I'm not a reviewer, I've never tried reviewing any games, stories or TV shows before so buckle up and enjoy my cringe review. Please do not witch hunt harass the creator of the story.
It's been the past two in a half years since the Sodor Fallout fandom has died down (sort of). Yes, I may have drawn one piece of fanart of the AU (Donald's boiler explosion of course). If you want to see it, then it is here on my account, or you can go to my channel to watch my speedpaint. But I still have thoughts I want to share about the story. This will be one time I review this AU so starting off with the story.
I have no issue with chapters from March 5th to July 7th. It all started great. But there is something I want to speak about in chapter March 5, 1973: So according to the entry, the writer of the journal writes about Sir Topham Hatt signing an agreement about the nuclear power plant. But I want to be real here, specifically when the nuclear power plant was first built and when it was finished. In my personal opinion, Topham should have signed the agreement years ago, and then the construction started afterward. From my research, a nuclear power plant takes 5-7 years to build. Because it was built on a tiny island on Brendam, I don’t think a conventional reactor would ever be suited.
Again, I am skipping the whole thing to July 8th because I want to talk about Toby. Dear God, where do I begin? He is awful and ridiculously out of character. By the time I first read about him in SF, I was so confused about why he was like this? I get where the writer is coming from: making him completely scared, tearful, and worried for Henrietta. But it was way too horribly executed. When he told the story about the blast, why didn't he return back to Tidmouth with her? He knew where he put Henrietta and went to her towards the blast, but the fact that he wasn't in Tidmouth without her is ridiculous, which makes him a terrible partner or friend to Henrietta About fireface, why didn't anyone do anything to stop it or kill it when it was tormenting Toby and encouraging him to game over himself? Sidney, Charlie, Leonard, Topham. They're all cowards for not doing anything to stop. Where was Toby's crew at? Did they run away after he went off trying to find Henrietta? Nowhere to be seen. Toby's death is really pathetic and really pointless when Henrietta is confirmed to be okay when, in this chapter, it mentions that engines made of wood are not affected by radiation. Trucks who are made of wood are affected by the blast, except Toby and Henrietta don't make any sense. Again, Toby's death is very pathetic and pointless , and it was so much wasted potential from him.
Skipping to the end of the chapter where Topham interrogated the person who was one of P.T Boomer's guys, the guy mentioned that the nuclear explosion was a hoax this whole time and the real truth was that bombs were placed around the power plant which creates explosions with injections that will mutate engines with grey faces: This plot twist right here, killed the whole plot and the title of this story as well as killing the reader's hype about the future chapters. This is what I hate everything about thThe hoax reveal. The reader wants to read the whole thing about Fallout. It's not “Sodor Mysterious Chemical” or “Injection.” It's “Sodor Fallout” is what the reader was reading about.
Stuff I want to point out: This story has a lack of emotions except for Edward’s reaction to Trevor's death and Topham mourning for Toby. But Edward and Henry’s reaction to Percy's demise is bland. When they found him suffering, they were like, “oh… okay.” Even nobody didn't inform Thomas and Topham that Percy was long gone. You know, Thomas' closest friend. I love how Thomas and Edward didn't get any reaction to Toby K wording himself except Topham. All of that was over when Mavis and Daisy arrived at Tidmouth and they had no time to grieve for Toby so forget him! They have shit to focus on next!
When the war on Brendam Docks happened before the blast, how come Donald (before he died) and BoCo were completely okay when there were chemicals around the area. When James and Gordon ran into the chemicals in the wrong direction, they got mutated, but Donald and BoCo also didn't make any sense at all. Speaking of Donald, I wonder how he survived the crash on July 4, then went to Brendam Docks with his boiler dry completely fine before he died. When BoCo saw James completely derailed, how did he pull him on the tracks without a breakdown crane? Magic I guess lmao. It's so funny how Edward and the beast never encountered each other. The beast only appeared once only to kill Fredrick, who we don't even know who he is. His name is just mentioned, and he dies. Never to be seen. Cedric and Jem Cole were never mentioned as well. Gordon speeds past by and never to be seen and probably dies from the crash. From the beginning of the July 4th chapter, how did the sky turn red when the power plant exploded? I have no clue.
Pros: Cons I dislike about Sodor Fallout aside, there are some pros that I really like.
The concept of the power plant seems good on paper, but it could have more potential. I love how in Topham’s story, he finds Thomas mutated in his shed and was beside him. He even cleared out the trucks from the turntable by using a breakdown crane for Thomas to let through. And I love and absolutely love how Topham was lying in his cab just shows how much he cared about him. On April 10th, I loved how Thomas felt comforted by his driver, Edward, and his crew, which was a touching moment! I heard there was Douglas’ sacrifice from the old SF videos I watched on YouTube, and even though that wasn't canon, I actually loved that. He was grieving over the death of his twin, and then he wanted to use fuel tankers to put an end to the beast. Not only that, Douglas wants to be with Donald, which was really heartbreaking, and I loved it from someone whose favorite characters are the Scottish twins!
Well that was my review. I don't like it. The first 6 chapters start off good until Toby's appearance on July 8th and the interrogation scene. The hoax plot twist is extremely stupid, defeating the whole title and plot of the story. The good ones I only liked were Thomas’ wholesome moments and Douglas' non canon sacrifice.
I would recommend reading Play Don't Pause: Writer’s Pen Review if you want to read his full review on SF
If you want to see great Sodor AUs, I would recommend checking out Square Station Studios channel. And I would recommend the stories listed here.
Nothing but Me, Myself, and the Mist (Remaster of Sodor Mist)
I'm Still Alive (Remaster of Sodor Left for Dead; not released yet)
The Cold Truth of Wars (Remaster of Sodor Cold Wars: not released yet)
Thank you for reading my review.

Hey guess I wanna say a few things about my ttte au and that is...
Pinchy is alive/sentient in this au, why: Diesel 10 talks to them while giving them a name in the movie TATMR so I decide to make them alive. Pinchy can also telepathically talk to Diesel 10, they can't speak out of that and are ok with steamies.
Percy in my au was made after his kind was scrapped and luckily a worker felt bad a kept him safe until he was given the man that had him before Topham. He's also the youngest engine in my au (dispite some tumblr users viewing him as older.)
The engines that were brought in before in the TV series like Flora, Hank, Neville, Gator ETC, are also in this au.
Splatter and Dodge are here too but Dodge is non-binary as they were never given a gender, Splatter is of course supportive and after Diesel 10's fall in TATMR they worked on the mainland until they were needed and now they stay with the other diesels.
The ships here are Thomas x Percy, Edward x Henry, Gordon x James, Oliver x Douglas, Toby x Henrietta and Duck x Donald (steam team, there are others)
I'm also thinking of adding my oc's, non Canon characters, ship kids, and alternate versions here (Include btwf, sodor fallout, shed 17/project g-1, etc)
So ya that's all I gotta say right now, if you want learn more just ask and I'll answer. If you don't like anything or accept anything I post then be quiet and keep to yourself.

I have two questions
This questions is a for everyone
1. Did any new engines and crews that went to Sodor after the incident felt sorry for you all? This questions is for Edward, Henry and Gordon 2. How did 98462, 87546 and The Red Engine(the engines from The Three Engines book) felt after they saw you and your friends looking very different than the last time they saw you?
First Question
*Edward sighed*
Edward: Yes,They felt bad when seeing what happened and honestly I hope they didn't get to.
Second question
*The Three looked at echother*
*Henry pulled down his face mask to awnser clearly*
Henry: They were shocked when they first saw what happened but since we got the cure finally we might forget this ever happened....I hope

How does the sodor fallout mutated engine would look like in your AU? (especially Oliver)
Tumblr media
it's unlikely that Sodor fallout could happen in my au since they're only 5% organic it's likely they would only get temporary tumors inside their masks
but let's ignore that for the sake of this
ripped clothes, broken masks, real blood, organic matter growing inside of them all the good jiz
survivor Edward: he tries to survive by taking apart his own engine and using it as aid and weapons to fend off his once friends. but it makes him feel worse every time he does
Oliver the beast: the body around him two times bigger than this humanoid shredding it into pieces only leaving the outer shell.
Sodor fallout isn't my favorite ttte fanfiction but its fun to draw out

I'm curious now of what the changes, I wanna hear about it :)
Well I will go down the Line here for this Sodor Fallout AU; This will be Lon so bare with me:
Thomas: Face has mutated to how you see it in the world but he can barely talk; It goes to a point where he would lose his voice.
Edward: Has bad Anxiety; Trauma and anger. He barely takes care of himself due to all that has happened and Practically works himself to almost death just to make a cure.
Henry: Has become a sorta caretaker for Edward and Tries to help him take better care of himself. Has some bad meltdowns sometimes and tries to be strong.
Gordon: After he was Rescued from being a Forever Run away until he crashes or something like that; He is now staying with Thomas and the others that Edward and Henry managed to save.
James: He grew scared over his extra mouths especially when they start to insult the others and Making him feel self doubt. Luckily the Extra mouths are Sewn shut and Covered up. He mostly stays with Gordon and Thomas.
Percy: Surprisingly; He doesn’t die after Edward and Henry left with Annie; Clarabelle and Scruffy; He was Actually brought along. He is trying to cling to life in the Infirmary part of the Base and is doing a remarkable job.
Toby: Now yes; I know in the Story; He died via ending his life (Stupid Fireface). But in my AU; Toby managed to live; Fireface did not live though as the Crane’s Hook snagged him and Ripped him off. Toby was Surprised that his Attempt to off himself failed but was relieved that FireFace was gone. So he tries to help out after he was healed.
Duck: He did die in the Story; Yes yes; BUT in my AU; He somehow managed to cling to life and be able to move. When Edward found him; He didn’t know how to explain himself being alive after what Oliver did.
Arry and Bert: Died as well but they are the same as Duck but because of the damage they had; The boys now act like Dogs protecting their owners or their own kids. In this case they protect Duck.
Bill and Ben: Due to the Damage they had received; The two sadly resorted to acting like Puppies; Utterly breaking BoCo and Edward’s hearts. BoCo swore to be there for them and Teach them to be better boys and Arry and Bert are also the twin’s caretakers while BoCo is helping Edward and Henry.
BoCo: He is suffering from emotional damage when he saw his twin boys acting like Pups and he felt like he failed to keep them safe or at least come back in time to protect them from Boomers people.
Oliver: He is the Beast and he is forever hungry. He somehow; later on down the line gets caught by Edward and Henry thanks to Toad. Oliver is being tamed so he can help Edward and the others defeat Boomer.
Topham: This man… THIS. MAN!! He is at this point an Emotional; Mental and Physical wreck. He witnessed Thomas’ mutated face at Tidmouth; Witness Toby attempt to Off himself just to stop Fireface and He couldn’t stop him in time; He saw his kids are mentally; Physically and Emotionally destroyed and he is out for Blood now. He wants to get to boomer and Take him down; Maybe even get him to make a cure himself.
Skarloey and Trevor: They sadly do die just like in the Story but in the Au; Once a Cure was made and Some of it spread into the outside; It travelled through the air (Like a Gas) to the Two and they somehow came back to life despite the Mercy kill bullet wounds to the head. Edward and Henry can’t even explain it to themselves or others.
Diesel 10: I did end up finding out how he died in Sodor Fallout and I was not happy with it. So in this AU; I changed it up. I made both him and Paxton be on the Mainland because they needed repairs out there that sadly weren’t on Sodor. They got to Sodor after getting past Boomer’s minions and raced to find other survivors until they found Henry and were taken to base.
This is who I have so far and let me tell you; There is so much more but with Sodor Fallout being cancelled and TidmouthThunderbolt came out on Twitter the unedited ending of it; I don’t want to really focus on that while it is good; I don’t wanna put the babies through more trauma and Hell then they already did

I did the best I could to make Thomas' mutated face accurate
I'm probably going to make more of these edits in the future

I've been on another Sodor fallout kick, so let me explain mutated James and Duck. James has a sort of echolocation, he can make a click sound out of any of his mouths and it comes back to him with vibrations to his teeth, like clickers from the last of us. This by proxy makes his teeth very sensitive, he does not do well in winter as a result, having to put on a mask that covers everything but his one remaining eye. He also has rows of teeth down his throat with the first row being a secondary mouth like the xenomorphs in aliens. James has a hard time speaking because of his deformities so he will often wear a tailored mask that covers most of his face while he's in the company of others, this is also the same mask he will use during winter because of his sensitive teeth. He will take off this mask when he is going out on a mission as his echolocation is often vital for detecting hostiles. Duck was on the road to being infected and mutated when Oliver finally found him, the hole that was punctured in his head actually made room for a more balanced mutation to happen on his body. Duck has the ability to see mutated spots as a glow, this is vital in a way to tell if where they are heading into is a hot spot for radiation, or how mutated someone is. If Duck were to look at Edward or Henry, he sees no glow, just an outline. If he were to look at Oliver he'd see a massive aura, while if he looked at Thomas or James he'd see some moderate auras. While Duck's new ability is crucial in detecting dangerous amounts of radiation, or how mutated someone is, he can only see in black and white with the auras in color. So when a non-mutated person comes up to him he can't see them all that well. (this has led to him running into Percy on more than one occasion.) He normally has a mutated friend guiding him around because of his partial blindness, this person happens to be Diesel of all people since he is marginally mutated although you wouldn't be able to tell it at first glance. That's all I got for now, feel free to ask questions to/about any of the other characters.

Hello! Have SOS! Thomas and SOS! Gordon in Post-Mail (if they stay alive :>)
Tumblr media
He was just pulling the express to save his passenger from a ferocious Oliver when he realized he got infected by the plague. Still, he continued to drive until they out-ran the beast (or until they found a way to drive him away)
His insides and outside slowly started to burn. His face looked like it was melting. His eyes didn't even go black it was like he gazed at the sun for too long. And later on his started to emit smoke.
As a result, his lungs, throat and eyes we're badly damaged. His vision became very bad and he could not speak anymore. The doctors don't know if it's possible to give him back his voice.
He was advised not to pull the express for a while, which he agreed to (so did his family)
But when he got better, it seemed that Scotsman really didn't wanna let him drive the express again, for obvious reasons.
He almost died because of that, did you really expect that he'll let him of the hook that easily?
A ridiculous amount of people kept on asking Gordon and helping him out on the simplest things. Need a lift to get on the cabin? Sure. Want me to buy you lunch? Ok. Want me to clean your glasses? Alright!
No, Gordon did not ask them to. Nor did he even agree. I think the final straw was how the staff was considering having a substitute for Gordon to pull the express.
Now Gordon better understood Henry and why he didn't like being coddled.
Partially because it was aggravating, mainly because he felt bad for Scotsman, who kept on working his 4$$ off for him.
"Why does my beloved brother have to suffer with me?", he thought. So, like him, he got up and started to work more.
All of this is why he remained a vainglorious pompous 4$$ to this day. He just mocks you in sign language now but really he just doesn't want people to suffer because of him. He didn't save the people in the express for THIS.
Tumblr media
Wow imagined getting adopted at 30 lmao 😆😆 (totally not Thomas here/j)
When the boomer troops arrived, the town square had become infected. And thanks to a goddamn collision, Thomas remained trapped in a cabin for days, slowly getting infected.
Those were the worst moments of his life. Everything burned, it was so hot, there were barely and food—let alone water—for him to survive. He spent his days lying down there, coughing up blood until Edward and Henry found him.
After the event, his left eye was broken. He could no longer see well with it and it was irregularly shaped. He uses a monocle now because of this.
He also received multiple skin burns.
For mental problems, he got Agoraphobia: fearing and avoiding places or situations that might cause panic and feelings of being trapped, helpless or embarrassed (because I REFUSE to believe that he was still the same after being trapped helplessly with no one to turn to). He is currently taking therapy with James and Toby for this.
Oh and yeah he got adopted by Edward. He is now Thomas Blighton Stewart :> (Bill and Ben might be his stepbros soon)
He's still impatient and fussy but for different reasons, but he's been greatly humbled.
Okie thas it

Fic: QLIR ‘Careless’ Outtake (Henry, Gordon, the Three Not-So-Unnamed Tender Engines)
The ‘Stack Alone’ storyline heavily involves ‘The Red Engine’ from the first RWS installment.
So perhaps it’s time to share my take on the ‘three unnamed tender engines’ from Book 1.
In ficcy form!
Unlike most fanon, I have ‘The Red Engine’ as the leader and not remotely an okay guy at all. Without him, 98462 would just be your typical big engine with the patented attitude, but the Red Engine is a charismatic sociopath. 87546 is a straight-up reckless and selfish idiot, but, again, made considerably worse by these enterprising friends he makes on Sodor. ‘The Red Engine’ escapes censure in The Official History Books because he totally had FC1 wrapped around his buffers... much to the en-maddenment of our three railway engines.
Samuel: ‘The Red Engine’ (there’s only one, in this story; the author’s and illustrators’ Issues are not my problem to fix) Ipswich: 98462  Lloyd (full name ‘Lloyd George’): 87546
Here is an outtake (carefully avoiding... major spoilers) from QLIR ‘Season 2: Careless.’
Summary: February 1924. The loaners ascend to dizzying heights of malice. Henry sticks his funnel out (spoiler alert: for all we don’t really explore it in this snippet, making an enemy of these three, obviously not good not good not good and Henry definitely will have fallout to deal with). Gordon also finds that he’s hit a limit, and is much better at enforcing it.
Henry heard the three of them cackling long before he actually arrived, which he did with the greatest reluctance. Of all the places he hadn’t wanted to go in his short life, the sheds, on that particular night, were right up there.
Each turn of his rods and pistons was an alternation between terror and fury, terror and fury…
“Such carelessness!” Samuel was laughing merrily as Henry came into sight, enjoying his act of affected surprise. “Considering that it’s all the little tank engine does, you’d think he’d know his business better than that.”
“I wonder if that controller is even going to bother with his repairs?” asked Ipswich.
“Oh, he’d better. And put a rush on it, too. Didn’t you hear, he really thinks we’re going to fetch our own stock now!”
“What!” burst out Lloyd.
“That’s no way to run a yard,” said Ipswich, who was still grinning broadly, as if this were merely the next game, which he intended they should win.
“Don’t we have a spare engine for just this sort of thing?” said Lloyd. “Steam him up and have him do it.”
Closed up in the furthest berth, Edward was oblivious to all of this. Weeks ago he had finally gone silent, numb, and unconscious.
And, although Henry knew all too well, that, no matter how deeply you retreated, there was no place where one could quite escape the unbroken winter cold… Henry still envied him.
He did?
He realized that yes, it was just so.
The tug-of-war between terror and fury abruptly snapped. Henry was abruptly buried in a avalanche of loneliness, and horror, and shame.
He’d thought, briefly, that these evil tossers were his friends.
“Shut up!”
He heard his own voice—fierce and shaking—with as much surprise as the rest. And with perhaps more than one of them: Samuel raised his eyebrows but, as usual, didn’t seem too thrown off by anything at all. “What’s that, Harry m’boy?”
“I said shut up!” The fury was still there. So was the terror. So was everything. Henry couldn’t see straight. “What was the point of that? He could have been hurt! He was hurt! His fireman was hurt! And why? Why? What did Thomas ever do to you?”
They were chuckling.
“Annoys the hell out of us all, don’t he?” asked Ipswich.
“And instead of annoying him back you nearly get him exploded?!”
“Fixed the problem, didn’t it?” asked Lloyd. “You’re welcome.”
“Just making one little improvement around here at a time,” said Samuel.
“You lot are—are—”
“Ooh,” said Lloyd. “We’re waiting.”
“Go on, then.”
“Make it worth our while, Harry!”
“—are—sociopathic!”
They stared briefly. Then laughed long and hard.
“Did it sneeze?” asked Samuel, looking, as usual, good-humored and cherubic.
“It's just making up words, isn’t it?” asked Ipswich.
“I didn't think a sham could have a vocabulary like that!” said Lloyd.
“It’s a real word, you ignoramuses,” grumbled a new voice. “And he’s right.”
Gordon had come up, and the loaners had been cackling too loudly for anyone to notice...
... until he burst on through the turntable far too swiftly.
He screeched to a sudden, sharp stop, only directly in front of Samuel’s buffers.
“Ah, Gordon, dear fellow!” Samuel managed to wink. “Heard the news?”
Gordon abruptly reversed, and then surged forward once more.
Samuel squeaked before Gordon came to a stop again… merely tapping him… though with an audible clank.
Aside from the engines’ low steaming, the men's incoherent murmuring, and the hoots of distant owls, there was total silence in the now-still yard.
Everyone stared as the cloud of steam slowly dissipated, leaving only a thunderous-looking Gresley Pacific who loomed over the Fey.
“Next time you’re at loose ends,” Gordon rumbled, “pick on someone your own size.”
Samuel had never been daunted before, and he wasn’t now—having already recovered from his shock.
“Or what?” he smiled.
“Or next time I don’t stop.” Gordon sounded bored.
“Ho!” Samuel laughed, and Lloyd and Ipswich tried to follow, though they were significantly less hearty about the business. “Controller’d know you were the only one who could have dealt such damage. You’d be rumbled!”
Gordon remained calm, to say nothing of supremely dismissive. “If you told on me, then I’d tell too. Wouldn’t go well for you.”
“Aren’t threats a little beneath you, Gresley?”
“Threat? Fact. Don’t believe it’s gotten through your thick smokebox yet, just how much Controller dotes on that little one.”
“And you, too?” Samuel waggled his eyebrows. “Touching, really!”
“Our problems will be kept among ourselves from now on,” Gordon proclaimed. “Disgraceful business, to drag tank engines into it.”
“Oh,” breathed Ipswich. “It’s a matter of honor, then!”
“Quite right. Budge over,” Gordon said aside, to Henry, as he backed again onto the turntable. “Pushing around a simple small fool like that—no honor in it at all. Number one is off-limits, and that’s that.”
“Just an express engine and his station pilot,” Lloyd cooed, once Gordon slowly turned, approaching him. “That’s sweet.”
Gordon eyed Lloyd as if he hadn’t yet noticed him, and was surprised to find that he still existed.
“You really want to go another round, Great Western?”
“We’re told we ought to pick on someone our own size,” said Lloyd. “And I like to pull above my weight!”
Henry and Gordon snorted simultaneously. Lloyd seemed rather shocked at this double bind, and gaped at Henry.
“Oh?” Samuel beamed at the two bigger engines. “Are we picking teams, then?”
“There are no teams, you yammering fools,” said Gordon. He backed roughly into his berth. “There’s only me, and then the rest of you zippy idiots—who, by the way, are going to be arranging my trains too, since I had nothing to do with the shameful affair, and am not about to suffer for it. Now stuff it up your funnel, Fey, and hold your peace. I don’t think you realize,” he forged on, suddenly quick and angry, when Samuel almost spoke again, “what ‘indispensable’ actually means. We have, as you note, a spare engine. The only job he couldn’t manage to sort, if Controller decides he’d rather have a civilized railway again, is mine. So the only one who is ‘indispensable’—is me.” He eyed every single one of them in turn, including Henry, who was as speechless as the rest and rather offended, to have been included in this gallery of rogues. At the end of this disgusted survey, Gordon grunted and closed his eyes. “Good night.”
Henry had to hand it to him. It did indeed turn out, improbably enough, to be the most peaceful night the sheds had seen since Lloyd had arrived to complete the trio from hell.
And it was a shame that he was still far too upset by the news about Thomas to enjoy it in the least.
