Get to Know Me - Sims Style
tagged by @dandylion240 (if anyone else did too I’m sorry, I’m not seeming to get notifs for tags rn???)
tagging @keibea because we need more TS3 rep in tag games like this tbh.
Tumblr media
What’s your favorite Sims death?
Old age. Because it means my sim actually made it that far and I just love seeing their life play out. Some of the more quirky, simsy ones are great though. Death by Jellybean or Cowplant come to mind lol.
Alpha CC or MaxisMatch?
I... really don’t like the TS4 MM aesthetic 😅 I really don’t like the clay hair look for my own sims, though think some people do wonderful things with it, and I do like certain Maxis Mix styles, good skin details with clay hair, certain stylised MM styles etc. but the default TS4 clay look is literally why I never moved over to TS4 in the first place, and it took too long for the Alpha scene to really take off in the beginning, so by the time there was enough CC for me to feel I would ever want to jump in, it felt too overwhelming to even try moving to essentially a new medium.
For TS3... I also am not a huge fan of the straight “MM” look either, though I think the distinction is less prominent as it is in TS4. You can easily make most “MM” stuff fit in an “alpha” game simply because they aren’t usually full-on clay the way TS4 MM is, they’re just not quite as detailed as full “alpha” CC. Whereas the other way around isn’t quite as true, intricately detailed alpha stuff might look out of place if most of your other content is vanilla or MM. So I think as well as preferring the aesthetic, I like the flexibility a more “alpha” leaning style can bring.
Do you cheat your sims weight?
Storywise, characters are obviously whatever size I make them lol.
Uh. I don’t know about weight, because I don’t think any of my sims have put on a lot of weight during gameplay. I have definitely cheated muscle levels though. Traumatic flashbacks to Loch suddenly getting BULKED whilst I was letting him run free during Riv’s BC. Absolutely not you little twink.
Do you move objects?
For gameplay, I used to try to minimise doing so just cos it breaks so much routing and stuff. Now I don’t play so I go nuts with MOO. Who needs working doors or stairs or beds anyway?
Favourite Mod?
So many mods for TS3 are kinda essential to even be able to run the game lol, like almost the entire NRAAS suite. I think I’ll have to go with the Remove Stencil mod though, cos being able to undo EA’s weird obsession with shiny clothes by removing the specular is honestly so lifechanging LOL. no more shiny wool jumpers or oil slick jeans 🥰
First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack?
My first TS3 expansion was Ambitions, because I skipped World Adventures, in fact, I think it was one of the last expansions I bought lol.
Believe it or not, I do actually own one EP, one GP, and one SP for TS4 lmao, back when I thought maybe, just MAYBE. the game might get better, and I was still trying so damn fuckin hard to force myself to enjoy the actual gameplay. So I have Get to Work, but don’t even ask me what the other two are because I haven’t a fuckin’ clueeeee.
Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing?
...It just occurred to me maybe it is meant to be “LIV” mode because it’s... like. Living mode. Like, Alive Mode doesn’t make sense. But my brain won’t accept it. doesn’t sound right. Always been “LIVE” mod to me lol.
Who’s your favourite sim that you’ve made?
Oh, jeez. Uhhh, I can’t *really* claim most of my current legacy sims because I didn’t make them, they were born in-game, even if I have tweaked the hell out of them in recent years. So if we’re going for physical appearance, I wanna say actually maybe Sylvie for my TS3 sims? She took so long to get just right, especially because TS3 doesn’t really do curvier sims quite as well as TS4, especially not without a fuck ton of sliders, and I had a really specific look to her face in mind that took forever to get right, had to blend her a custom skin etc. But I am finally super happy with her cute lil sassy round face 🥰 Close runners up are probably Qu or Edge.
God, I’m gonna get so fucking shot for this but here goes. Physically, my fave TS4 sims I’ve made are actually both of Tay’s brothers, Ethryon and Ailos, and also probably father, Qariel. I think because I had a little more experience with using TS4 CAS by the time I got to them, more sliders, more skin details, just generally a fuck ton more CAS CC by then, and more time to tweak them etc. As much as Tay will always be my favourite sim OVERALL... yeah. plznoonekillmebye
Have you made a simself?
Ye. I used to update her like. all the timeee too, whenever I got a new haircut etc. And, ofc, Havoc was my alter ego so she’s like. simself adjacent lol.
Which is your favorite EA hair color?
God I hate EA’s hair colours in TS3. their blondes are so yellow, the highlights don’t blend well etc. always make my own. TS4 hair colours make me want to actually die, but then again, I hate the clay hair and cartoony colours of vanilla TS4 anyway, so.
Favourite EA hair?
Tumblr media
Favourite life stage?
Young Adult, with Teens a close second. You can do the most with the YA age, but the chaos of teenage years are real fun too lol.
Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?
I literally can’t play lmao. I have too much CC in TS3 for it to run well enough to play, and TS4... is it even possible to play TS4? joking joking... mostly. I’m in it for the story.
Are you a CC creator?
No. Never. I do not have a CC page I abandoned whatsoever no idea what you’re talking about goodbye. 💀
Do you have any Simblr friends or a Sim Squad?
RBSB represent.
No I hate everyone equally.
@lazysunjade and @thesimperiuscurse have no choice but to be talked at by me every day. I’m inescapable.
Do you have any sims merch?
I actually had the TS3 Collectors edition that came with the Plumbob USB and I was devastated when it got broken. Like legitimately heart broken lol.
Tumblr media
Miss her so much I just want her back
Do you have a YouTube for sims?
Ew.
How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?
I used to try so hard to stick to whatever gameplay threw at me, following the actual legacy rules, not editing sims etc, all to the detriment of my actual enjoyment of storytelling. Now I care maybe a little too much about how posts look that I get into a rut of not posting oops bye 💀
What’s your origin id?
Probably the same as my username here lol, but I avoid origin at all costs so couldn’t tell you for sure tbh.
Who’s your favorite CC creator?
Oh, way too many to choose. For sims 3 CAS stuff, the still active converters like @rollo-rolls, @vmsims23, @simtanico etc. for build and clutter stuff @kerriganhouse, and @martassimsbookcc for conversions. Honestly, I’m kinda out of the loop atm, but there’s just way too many good creators.
How long have you had simblr?
uh. since 2015, I think? let’s not dwell on it 💀
How do you edit your pictures?
Dunno how to answer this? Photoshop, I guess lol?
What expansion/ gamepack is your favorite?
It used to be pets, cos I loved having animals in the game. Now I always forget they exist oop lol. Probably Supernatural.

Internet safety tips - important for everyone
I’m writing this after a friend of mine got bullied and harrassed in real life thanks to a Tumblr post one lunatic didn’t agree with. Don’t want that to be you? Read on...
We are in an age where it’s easier than ever to access information. There’s some simple ways you can help prevent your information from being easy to access too. Just because you haven’t personally encountered the darker sides of the internet, such as harassers, doxxers, fraudsters and groomers, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Trust me that everyone, especially minors, should avoid publicly releasing personal information when possible.
1) Keep your name safe
Why? Because it makes it easy for anyone to find out more info on you. This includes future employers, groomers, someone who wants to steal identities and commit fraud, and horrible people on the internet that want to continue online harassing offline.
- Use a pseudonym instead of your real name. It can literally be anything (though maybe try to avoid using names from languages you don’t understand, or you’ll get in some very awkward situations)
- Don’t use the same email address for everything so your real name and online identity accounts can’t be linked
- Keep separate accounts for your personal life and for interacting with strangers.
2) Keep your age safe
Why? Because there are creepy people out there who want to target minors, and even if you’re not a minor, giving away that additional information can make it easier for fraudsters to use your data. Any additional information can help turn a suspicion about your identity into a known fact.
- Avoid giving your real exact age ESPECIALLY if you’re under 18
- Do not tell anyone your birthday, if you used your real birthday to sign up for a website, hide it from your profile
- If you’ve told someone your birth date, don’t tell them the year too, and vice versa
- If you must give an age, try to refer to it in terms of the range of your age rather than being specific (e.g. I am / am not a minor, I’m in my 30s, etc)
- Making up a fake age may be useful, but be wary:
- if you’re a minor and you pretend to be over 18, you could end up being exposed to adult content. Even if you think you’re very mature, some people are very sneaky in the way they talk and you could wind up in a situation you shouldn’t be in.
- In the opposite situation, if you’re an adult, don’t pretend to be a minor. That just looks like you’re trying to blend in with kids and is seen as very creepy, plus if any actual minors find out, they’re going to feel very uncomfortable. If you’re in a situation where you feel you can’t be in that community unless you’re a minor, then you shouldn’t be there.
- DO NOT fall for “birthday game” posts which get you to “pick a character” or the like based on your birth month, date and year. You’ll just give away your real birthday like that. You can play along in your head or with real life friends, and just not publicly post the result!
3) Keep your address safe
Why? You don’t want randoms turning up at your house, do you? Also, bullies and online trolls could send you in person hate mail, or make fake calls regarding your address to the police. There have been many cases of such doxxing cases leading to horribly adverse effects on not only the day to day lives of the targets, but also their mental health.
- Don’t be more specific than country (or state for US people) when telling internet strangers where you live
- Do those internet strangers REALLY need to know which school / university / dance class / sports team / art lessons / etc you went to? (spoilers: no)
- For the love of everything holy do not tell anyone your actual address
- If you buy from onilne shops under your real name, make sure there’s no way that the shop owner can connect that to your online identity (e.g. using a different email)
4) Keep your password safe
Why? To avoid people logging into your account, and stealing not only the account (and any others that use the same email and password...), but all the data that comes with it. Plus, someone could take over your account and use it to trick your friends and family, or use it in a way that implicates you in crimes.
- DO NOT DO NOT PLEASE DO NOT use the same password for everything
- Use 2 factor authentication when you can
- Don’t store your password in plain text on a file on your computer. If you’ve gotta write it down, do it in real life and NOT on something that can be easily taken by someone else, like a post it
- Have trustworthy antivirus software on your computer and keep it, and your browser, updated, to avoid hackers exploiting vulnerabilities in your system and getting access to your accounts
5) Be careful with your exact nationality / racial heritage
Why? Another piece of identifying information, which can possibly help lead people towards your real life address or identity. You might get creepy questions from those who fetishise race. Plus, there’s been quite a lot of incidents of race based crime, so you’re not going to want to put yourself out as a target. (of course, you can proudly be Black or Asian or European or the like, but you should be aware of the risks if you publicise this information)
- Regardless of what people may tell you, it doesn’t make you a bad person if you “refuse to admit” that you’re white, or Black, or Asian, or so on, so don’t feel pressured into revealing this information.
- What IS wrong, is pretending to be a race that you’re not. So don’t make up a fake racial identity to cover your real one.
6) Be careful with your sexuality and gender when in the LGBTQ+ community
Why? Not every space on the internet is as accepting towards the LGBTQ+ community as you may be used to. Plus, there have been “raids” organised by more extremist sites, where they specifically sign up and “attack” users of websites that have large populations of members that don’t share their views. Homophobic and transphobic attacks have occured as the result of this. So keep this in mind if you choose to share your sexuality, trans/cis status, neopronouns, exact gender and so on.
- As with the last point, though, DON’T make up a fake sexuality and gender to cover your real one, that’s disrespectful to people who actually have those identities and experiences.
7) Be careful with other specifics
- Posting triggers: trolls might intentionally try to trigger you. There’s easy ways to filter out content based on tags on many popular social media sites, so you can do so without actually revealing said tags.
- Posting photos and videos of yourself: trolls might try and bully you based on appearance, including saying things that just aren’t true just to get at you. Also, that’s the number one way to identify you for sure. What would your future boss think about that TikTok challenge? Doing some of the more life-endangering ones is stupid in itself, but also definitely will make employers think less highly of you in future.
- Posting a drawing of yourself: You can still be identified with that, though it’s a bit more difficult if it’s more stylised. Paired with other data such as location and age, however, this suddenly becomes a much more important piece of the puzzle and can be the difference between someone finding your real identity and not. The great thing about drawings, though, is that you can change up your clothing, hairstyles and the like so that it still represents who you are, but not exactly how you appear in real life.
- Saying anything controversial: unfortunately we live in an age where you can get in trouble for something you said in a time when you were more ignorant when you’ve since changed your opinion. So if you’re about to say anything that’s at risk of being controversial, think first and make sure to be properly educated on the topic you’re speaking on. Be sure to avoid falling into echo chambers where everyone agrees with each other - just because people agree doesn’t make them right! Follow the facts, or in cases where there are no set facts, consult all opinions and make your own judgement.
- Just don’t post anything that would give someone incentive / reason to want to hack your account / harass you / doxx you. Unfortunately, even something that seems innocent can set someone off, such as posting a theory about a TV show. However, being careful with what you post can still reduce the chances of being targetted.
In summary:
The internet is more dangerous than you think, so it’s vital that you stay safe. Be careful with any and all personal information. If in doubt, just don’t post it! We can’t undo the trauma my friend has gone through, but we can try to help prevent the same thing from happening to other people. Please spread this information far and wide!

INTERVIEW: Jack Ewins | An In-Depth Look at Dino Defenders Extreme!
As anyone who follows The Jurassic Park Podcast team will know – whilst we all love the Jurassic films, we also all have a deep affinity for dinosaurs in general – and love writing about all things to do with them. I’ve been lucky enough to cover a wide breadth of dinosaur-related materials in the past – from museum collections to live arena spectacles and much, much more. But, one of the things to get me most excited, was when I learned that friend of the podcast Jack Ewins was working on an epic new adventure: Dino Defenders Extreme. We sat down with Jack to learn a little more about the piece:
Tom: Hey Jack! So, firstly, for anyone who doesn’t know you (I don’t know how!) – tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do:
Jack: My name is Jack Anthony Ewins, I help run a production company with my friend Tim called Chaos Theorem, some of you out there might know our work from the viral marketing for Jurassic World and JW: Fallen Kingdom.
Tom: Awesome – so obviously, dinosaurs are a big part of life for you then! Was it your affinity for Jurassic Park which led you down the path to work on your latest project?
Jack: Above anything else it was my love of story-telling that led me down the path towards Dino-Defenders. Jurassic Park has inspired the visual canvas for setting, and the basic set up for where the story begins (a group of specialists head to a secret base where dinosaurs have been cloned) but the challenge was how to make it different. Dinosaurs are a fascinating part of Earth’s history and I firmly believe in fiction there’s more we can do with them. I’m hopeful that Dino-Defenders can do that. Also, my wife challenged me to better my artwork of humans, this was back in 2015 not long after Jurassic World was out, she said “you can draw/paint dinosaurs really well but humans are your undoing”. At first I decided to try and tackle this via our web comic Jurassic World: Regenesis but that project was eventually shelved and I didn’t do anything else for a while. Not until the idea for DDEX came along. I’ve figured this project will put me to the test by having humans in many different situations and positions for me to better my art and by having the characters be stylised and cartoony would be a good starting point. So far, I’ve learnt a lot. Thanks wife : ).
Tom: So – Dino Defenders Extreme. What kind of stories can we expect from this project?
Jack: DDEX is one story split into chapters. Like Alien, Jurassic Park and Frankenstein its a story of playing god and exploiting the miracle of life, but it won’t do this by simply having dinosaurs escape to teach the nasty humans a lesson, I want to tell something different with these animals that we haven’t seen in other stories, and I believe that starts with the human characters. We’ve seen people promote dinosaurs for entertainment, we’ve seen them try to use them as weapons, but with Dino-Defenders I’m asking what if someone was using prehistoric lifeforms to search for other ways to play god, and how deep does that go.
Tom: In your announcement, you mention being inspired by modern films like Prometheus, but also by the works of film icons like Ray Harryhausen. How have these inspirations shaped the project so far?
Jack: Ray Harryhasen in particular has inspired the project purely from a motivational stand point. If you’ve ever watched an interview with the late icon its apparent that he never let go of his passion of bringing monsters and dinosaurs to life. It’s his drive and commitment that inspired me to commit to this project and really be passionate about it. As for Prometheus being an inspiration it boils down to two things, I love the ascetic of the character Weyland’s living quarters on the ship, and what we see at the beginning of Alien: Covenant, there’s a sleek, clean Romanesque feel to the way Ridley Scott and crew brought that character to life. I wanted to emulate that certain aspect for the character Rose Ankor who is the mastermind behind the operations in Dino-Defenders. Obviously, the look of this project is heavily inspired by cartoons from the 90’s, but also the Overwatch animated shorts. With those they tell short 7 minute stories that have been very inspirational in lessons of compact story-telling.
Tom: Obviously, you’re still hard at work developing the show – but do you have an estimate for how many episodes you expect the show to be?
Jack: It’ll be released in 6 chapters, each around 15 mins in length. Once they are all finished I’ll edit them together into a feature length video. The goal is to reach at least 1 hour 10 minutes’ worth.
Tom: What has been your biggest challenge you’ve encountered so far?
Jack: The biggest challenge so far has been finding time to work on it. I have the story planned out and the tools to bring it to life but finding the time has been the biggest obstacle. I began work on DDEX in July 2017, and had some time over that summer to get the project off the ground, then life got in the way, and after that we really got stuck in with Fallen Kingdom, I would love to work on it 24/7, which is why I have set up the Patreon to try and find support in order to do this. The show will come out regardless but with support it’ll be with us sooner rather than later. I’ll admit the second challenge is getting the word out there and letting like-minded people know that a project like this exists. So I truly appreciate you guys helping get the word out! Thank you.
Tom: Where can people learn more about the project?
Jack: People can learn more about the project over a the Patreon http://www.Patreon.com/Ewinzilla/Overview … or go to my Terrordome 3000 youtube channel you can catch me live streaming painting frames for the project whenever I can and people can talk directly to me about information on the project. We also look to have a laugh when streaming.
Tom: Can Jurassic Park fans expect fan-favourite dinosaurs to make appearances or should we expect Dino Defenders Extreme to bring all new dinosaurs to the centre stage?
Jack: Oh yes, there’ll be lesser known dinosaurs in this series. I’ve omitted A LOT of the most well known dinosaurs, some examples being Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Triceratops, Spinosaurus, Velociraptor, and Parasaurolophus because I feel there are some really interesting prehistoric creatures that I can use in unique ways that’ll be different to what has been seen previously. The ones I’ve publicly announced being in the show are Megalosaurus, Dimetrodon, Proceratosaurus, and Megaraptor. I’ll admit there is one particular prehistoric creature that has a scene I think people will love. But thats a secret for now.
Tom: Where do you hope Dino Defenders Extreme will go in the future? What’s the end goal?
Jack: The end goal of DDEX is to entertain those like minded folks out there who have longed for a more mature dinosaur story, and those that have been longing for an animated show of Jurassic Park. I’m also framing the shots in a cinematic way, like animated story boards to show how it could work on a larger screen. So who knows what could happen if people really embraced this. I’d love to take it to a animation studio and have it made into a fully animated film, *COUGH* Don Bluth. But I must take baby steps and put the work in to prove its worth.
Tom: Lastly, where can people excited get more involved?
Jack: At this current stage people can get involved via the Patreon: http://www.Patreon.com/Ewinzilla/Overview …. No one has to support it of course but for $1 per MONTH (76p for those in the UK) I think it’s a small price to pay to help with the creation of something that has been missing for the last 25+ years. If people can’t afford to help but still wish to I’d say spread the word!
There you have it – an in-depth look at Dino Defenders Extreme! I am personally incredibly excited to see where this goes. Jack and Tim have shown real talent for expanding story materials through Chaos Theorem in the past – so I am excited to see Jack put that to good use with DDEX. Stay tuned here on The Jurassic Park Podcast – as we hope to continue to cover the project as it grows and expands!
In the meantime, if you are excited, check out the first teaser trailer:

Research & Experimentation
A look into long take cinema and the impact of “non - music videos”
(Circle Takes The Square, as the roots undo album cover January 6, 2004)
Matt Miller
For the Research and Development module I have decided to have a look into music videos, more importantly subverting the form of standard music video. I didn’t want it to be a simple visually narrative piece, nor just a live performance piece. I wanted it to be what I like to called a “non-music video” similar to the dada movement (Non Art). [3]
First of all, visually, I wanted it to be stylised to be almost like it could be a picture or painting. This predominantly means I want it to be created in one take, and focus on one subject or area. To choose the correct visuals I wanted to delve deeper into the lyrical content and the musical style of what I want as the audio.
I want to focus on the 90’s emotional hardcore and post hardcore movements, which formed around the DC area in the mid 80’s/90’s [2] which spread to other areas including the UK. Specifically I’m looking at bands like, boysetfire, Mclusky and newer age bands like More Than Life, Touche Amore, Old Gray and La Dispute. Emotional Hardcore (sometimes referred to as melodic hardcore) tackles emotionally tackling subjects, usually about mental health issues, remembering the past and hardships they have faced. Usually this music is extreme and fast paced so choosing this to go alongside my “non- music video” is perfect; a manic fast paced song alongside a simple long take shot can help really define the nothingness and sadness that emotional hardcore can encompass.
I will create the entire track myself, recorded at home.
I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Audio interface to record all vocals and instruments and then with drum samples I have collected over the years I can program in a realistic sounding drum track.
As for the musical mix, a lot of these bands albums are overly produced or heavily mixed, this gives the old school DIY punk and hardcore feel, everything is raw and to the heart. So I want to recreate that feel, but almost under producing the track to make it feel as real as I can do a live performance, but still hold a high quality of audio listening.
I wanted to keep this DIY feel throughout including the visuals. I don’t need a crew, as I can do every aspect myself. I don’t even want to use high grade camera equipment to create the visuals. I’ll simply use my Iphone 6s as the quality of the camera is decent enough to perfectly visualise my ideas. As far as a cinematic style I have looked into Long take cinema, Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky, also known as the master of long take cinema. I focused on two scenes, the scene when the main character wakes up and leaves home, which is all in one take. This gives a feel of realism and makes you slightly uncomfortable and you start to actually see what's around you and completely focus on what is happening. The Second scene I looked at was the dream sequence, this scene was particularly interesting as again, it was one long take, but the once was a step away from reality, and this really made it feel dreamy. [4]
The Lyrical content of the track I have chosen is incredible personal to me, and I feel like it's taken some courage to be able to do this. It focuses on how sometimes everything feels like the end of the world and you can’t carry on. I think everyone gets this feeling once in their life, and some people can express this better than others, whereas some others will “bury their head in the sand”. As for the visuals I chose to simple film the edge of a bed and some curtains, the camera is very shaky and human. This was on purpose to give it a sense of realism. I wanted it to be one shot as it visualises the nothingness and sadness of the heavily emotional lyrics. Watching the piece makes you almost uncomfortable as the visuals don’t change, they seems meaningless but without them the piece falls apart.
