Negai no Astro Chapter 4 Thoughts

Super late but I still wanted to write something for this chapter like the other 3 to try to be active on here again 🥲 I have been enjoying this story so much so far, Ken Wakui has again managed to get me hooked. Even though I don’t have much to say about this chapter, it is my favorite so far. I loved to see a glimpse of the fighting, something I enjoy a lot in Wakui’s style, and also learned more about the siblings dynamics and some of the powers. It seems it will only get worse from here (better plot wise worse for the relationships between Hibaru and the siblings😭)

Kuran was my favorite part of the chapter. I honestly expected him to be way meaner so I am pleasantly surprised (still, it is only a first proper appearance so who knows how he really is). Hibaru respects him a lot and is determined to get him to his side, so this shows they don’t have a hostile relationship, and most likely Kuran does not mean him any harm. But I wonder what happened between him and Kou, they were always shown together as a pair so I expected them to be working together/have a close bond, not for Kou to overthrow him😭 but again everything happened behind the scenes so the details are foggy, and I will need to see more of each sibling to form a proper opinion, but I am definitely enjoying his personality and character + his design is amazing, I love the eyeliner

Something about him reminds me of Baji, especially in these panels where he turns around this way, a mix of his face and his vibes

Kou..intriguing character. I would love to know what led him here and made him want to fight his siblings. From how he speaks it seems everyone treated him poorly, like crap as he put it, and I am always here for “the world turned its back on me so I will turn my back on the world” kind of character who is mistreated/wronged and suddenly gains power. Always interesting to see how they use this power. Hibaru also called him the weakest, and Hibaru is such a sweet guy so maybe the other siblings are even more hostile towards him😭 but his cool doctor octopus kind of power makes him damn strong now apparently if he defeated kuran, i am loving this, each one of them wanting power for themselves, cant wait to see what the others want and desire

The pointing though lmao, he can do the “who got six thumbs and … this guy!” joke

But yeah i saw many people not liking him alrea but tbh i like him so far

This part was adorable 😭 Terasu is like an angry cat, it’s funny because so many people call him “pookie” “bean” “baby” and i call him my son, he would hate that, he is a little munchkin…

I really love their dynamic😭 reminds me a lot of Takemichi and Chifuyu, Terasu always looks like he does not wanna be there and is done with everything, but no matter how much he acts embarrassed by hinaru or playfully insults and judges him i know he would die for him without hesitation, and their brotherhood is so precious I know I will cry cause of them one day, nothing hurts me and heals my heart more than how Wakui writes sibling bonds: shinnie and mikey + the whole izana plotline + yuzuha and hakkai and mitsuya and the little girls, everything Wakui writes moves me

we are only four chapters in but i already feel myself getting more and more attached to Hibaru, he is so silly and precious, I love a good-hearted kind mc who is also brave and sassy. I love how he's always ready to pick a fight

but overall, he is a good person with a heart of gold, Wakui please don't traumatize him..

T’is I, the close-enough-mikey-ask-to-tailspin :-))) i have to admit that you got me at the edge of my seat when u suddenly posted sumn abt getting out of ur wips,,,like i really had a hunch that it was my ask and believe it or not, i really wanted to send u an ask to confirm it but i had to restrain myself bc i don’t want to look annoying or assuming or sumn haahhaha

But OMG i didn’t expect that this fic will feature not just one, but three tr characters!?!?!?? It’s really fascinating how you chose chifuyu as the one having a moral dilemma in dealing with restraining his feelings for the reader. Well imo, it’s very genius of you to have chifuyu portray the role seeing how his canon character in tr has a kinda similar drive to save the ppl he cherishes just the way takemichi does to everyone + he’s got that “good boy” kinda vibe (even though he’s a delinquent) like those really cute coffee/flower/petshop owners who’s all smiles once you enter their store (and you’ll later on know that they’re actually not who you think they are)???

Going back to the story, did chifuyu, in his time leap to “save” reader, instantly kidnap reader and explained his agenda to baji and kazutora, or was it a long process of gaining reader’s trust while the other two oblivious of chifuyu’s newfound ability, and their yandere tendencies towards reader just slowly manifesting the more they got to know them?

Lmao I made that post and then two hours later I was like… wait, did that come across too mean?? I was only joking 😭😭😭 shdhdjdkdllflf but yes, thank you for both asks my love!

The thing I love about Chifuyu is when you put him against characters like Baji and Tora, Mikey even, he comes across as a much milder option – the voice of reason, the friend you turn to. But there’s that scene where he talks about stripping people naked and beating the hell out of them because they were disrespecting Baji and like… that boy has issues <33

And that’s sort of reflected in the fic, I think? At first he paints himself as more of an enabler than anything else, letting horrible things happen to you because that’s what Baji and Tora want/need, and then it slowly comes out that he’s just as fucked up as they are, and wants you equally as bad.

As for what happens when he jumps back, Chifuyu’s terrified of losing her, so while he sets up on his little stalking mission, he also sets about making sure they have somewhere safe and comfortable to keep her, and figuring out how he’s going to take her and when. There’s no slow easing her into this, there’s really not much point.

That’s for the reader’s side of things. With kazutora and baji, it’s more… he doesn’t just come out and announce it, but he also doesn’t make much of an effort to conceal what he’s doing from them. It’s a waiting game – how long will it take before they notice he’s acting weird, and follow him one night to her place? How long before morbid curiosity wins out? By the time he’s ready to bring you home, they’re more than happy to help :))

Besides, he has the benefit of hindsight on his hands. He knows they’re gonna love her, and they won’t lift a finger to stop him from keeping her locked away and safe.

ok but we need to talk about hakkai and mitsuya !!

the way hakkai talks about him after everything that went down on christmas

it's funny because while yuzuha it's talking about takemichi, he can only think about mitsuya:

at this point it was pretty obvious hakkai admired mitsuya very much, in the backstory of how they met we learn the reason mitsuya protects yuzuha and hakkai, and therefore we learn the reason hakkai it's always following him.

but... lol can someone please explain why hakkai has a picture of mitsuya as his wallpaper? 😭 who even does that?, this kid is whipped

this is pretty self explanatory, on his letter, mikey says this, and I mean, it was obvious mitsuya's ideal job was on the fashion industry but tbh hakkai as a model was a surprise to me, but mikey said hakkai surely will do something similar to mitsuya just because he likes him so much and that just makes sense. also the part about hakkai being always on mitsuya's place?? he is right!!

I think this can be readed in two ways, hakkai it's simply very happy to see mitsuya, or... hakkai knew mitsuya was going to be there so he went to see him and it's just acting surprised, either way... this is so cute.

Hi I’m currently reading the manga and have yet to find a canonically redeemable quality about kisaki 😭😭😭😭 can u pls tell me what you like about him I am very open to your opinion I’m just 😭😭absolutely reeling after 187 I can’t handle it alone 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

U CAME TO THE RIGHT PERSON OKAY. okay. so. my love for him knows no bounds and listen i’m just like you, even when i thought he was cool while i was first reading he would piss me off just for my love for other characters. i think one of the best things about him is that if you want to understand his whole character design and look at everything he does from a different perspective, you have to really look at him and look into him and analyze him. because you could say some dumb ‘oh it was all for love’ shit, but it’s actually so much stronger than that. there’s a lot unsaid about kisaki especially in his childhood, but at least i’m pretty sure he had a really traumatic home life. and then the bullying from everyone including the teachers, and just the simple lack of humanity that he was shown up until hinata gave it to him. ofc he formed an obsession with her, the same way he formed an obsession w mikey. kisaki is really thought out, and he’s extremely diligent and focused and he also isn’t arrogant. he knows his flaws, he’s actually really harsh on himself and every time he talks about his plan succeeding he admits he knows he can’t do it on his own. he can’t make someone love him by himself. if you think ab the depth behind that it creates this big?? idk spot for empathy. if you look at every action he has and everything he’s said from a different limelight after figuring out the most you can about his character, there’s so much more depth to his words and his actions. i also really admire the respect he has for takemichi. i think their relationship is beautiful, in the way that their feelings for each other are like simultaneously mirrored and also ignored. i think one of the most important moments was during the tenjiku arc when kisaki shot takemichi in the foot and said “why are you pushing me this far?”. the care he has for him, and again i say the respect he has for takemichi is insane and it ALSO shows so much ab him as a person. i also think he’s just really cool? he’s a fucking genius dude, he’s so fucking smart and i love that trait in a person. he’s clever, he’s cunning, and he’s determined and even in all of that when he sees that he can be the ‘best’ and he knows that he can do the shit he’s intending on, he’s still?? idfk humble i guess would be the word. he’s very hurt and i admire the way he holds himself. he’s also a big dickhead and idk i love that in characters & i also love it when they’re fucking insane and he definitely fits into that. i think the first time i really liked him was when he was with hanma and he said “they couldn’t do a goddamn thing, yknow?” and his eyes got all sparkly and shit lol what a fucking loser i adore him. part of it is i really just like his character, i like antagonists especially after you can find that point of empathy with them. i also like how mentally ill and (corny but for lack of better word) ‘misunderstood’ he is i guess? i also love similarly to him so i like characters i relate to

YEAHH plus he’s fucking funny i think it’s so hilarious when he’s obviously being manipulative and he’s always got the little !! by his speech LOL. he’s fucking clever n he’s smart and also ALSO HE LIKES MATH AND HE?? LIKES PLANTING? HE LIKES PLANTS? WHAT A CUTIE RIGHT????

Hope you're as well as can be and looking after yourself!

Ohh dear I am very excited and nervous for acacia thorns and my heart has already sunk far in advance. One, because it's your take on Kakucho and your writing effectively pulls on my heartstrings, and two, because it's Kaku and angst which I haven't really seen until this point 😭

On Kaku and Ran, they definitely have some kind of brotherly stuff between them! When Ran closed the eyes of Kaku and Izana at the end of the tenjiku arc that confirmed to me that maybe Ran does have somewhat of a heart for those he deems worthy of respect. I definitely imagine later into Bonten Ran and Rindou are the ones giving Kakucho a headache with their antics! From their usual going off the rails to the whole 'ran slept with his brother's ex' saga Kaku needs a holiday away from them

I never thought of that point of Inupi's hair in the various timelines! And that stark difference in the version of events where he stays within Toman with Koko and dons a military style cut to the immaculate locks he has when has his friends like Draken and Takemichi! Now all those lines in wisteria and sweetpea about his hair being this sunshine that covers reader is even more poignant 😭 even for all the rowdy stuff he does in Brahman's fighting rings he has people like Draken who look out for him and want him to be happy

I always wondered if he has any idea how beautiful he is both outside and from within? (Once you win his heart of course) How underneath his cold and guarded exterior there lies someone with so much love and devotion to those closest to him, and someone who goes above and beyond to make his loved ones happy 🥺

Now Christmas presents! The bane of my existence! They're truly the one thing I struggle with, so that makes two of us 😭 it's so hard choosing what to give someone when in reality they deserve the world and more, so I try to compensate sometimes by writing really sappy things in Christmas cards! Almost like a personal letter as I'm a very wordy sort of person lol.

Who in tokrev do you think writes really sappy letters for Christmas cards?

Yeah, I've basically gone back on my own promise to keep things fluffy and light for the last bit of the event >_< i do apologise - I have to get the big sad out somehow - i guess it turns into fics <3

Yeah, the Kaku fic has been swirling around this last week, and shall probably happen this week - actually, most of the fics should happen this week. i go to my parents' soon and i don't want to be making excuses about what I'm writing LOL

I really love the Kaku/Haitani dynamic. Ran so desperately wants to big brother Kaku, because Kaku is so young - and of course Izana was in the Haitanis' age group. So they're almost surrogate brothers.. but, theyre not Izana, and not nearly as responsible. I feel like the other members of Bonten sometimes look at the three of them and wonder who really plays the big brother role (spoiler: his surname isn't Haitani). I'm very curious about the Mikey/Kaku dynamic, or he Mikey/anyone dynamic (except Sanzu, we know that), because Mikey has either directly or indirectly beaten all of them at one stage. and some out of pure malice (or dark impulse, or whatever - just go to therapy, my dude)

Inupi! - honestly his hair was the first thing i noticed, then his eyes, then the heels. I imagine that Draken noticed Inupi's hair getting long, and instead of shooing him off to get a haircut, he just gave Inupi a hairtie instead. He always has spare hairties around his wrist (a byproduct of the Mikey and Emma days *time to cry*) and when he realised that the other Toman boys were growing their hair out, he just kept the habit. It's especially useful once he joins Brahman, because Inupi and Seishu are constantly breaking or losing theirs (cue shared disappointment from Waka and Draken - Takeomi offers them gel and they politely decline)

Inupi has no idea of his worth I think. Just remember how Koko dismissed him. if the only person who Inupi thought cared for him treated him like that, why would he have value? (Koko I'm coming for you) Are we creating an Inupi Appreciation Club? I feel like it's happening.

Somehow I managed a productive Christmas shopping expedition, even if I came home with less than I had imagined. I at least managed to figure out what not to get people, and what I should probably buy online. I also came home with a nice candle, which is currently burning near me. My Christmas cards are atrocious. The holiday isn't very meaningful for me, but I go all out on birthdays. Some of my friends and I don't even do christmas, just one big meaningful gift in a year - to say thank you for tolerating me for so long >_<

As for TR characters who write long cards/long Xmas cards, I'd categorise them like this:

LONG letters/almost novels: Shinichiro, Emma, Hina, Naoto, Hakkai, Mitsuya, Takemitchy,

Longer than you'd expect: Mucho, Kaku, Ran, Benkei, Mikey (is it legible? no. Is it understandable? no. Is it heartfelt and gut-wrenching? YES), Kisaki, Angry, Chifuyu, Izana

Average: Draken, Waka, Smiley, Taiju (he writes Bible verses for you), Kazutora,

Short 'n sweet: Rindou, Mochi, Inupi, Pah-chin, Senju, Yuzuha

The back of a receipt for your gift <3: Takeomi, Koko, Peh-yan

What card?: Sanzu, Baji (he would, but he can't spell, and he forgot) Hanma, South
