Inukag AU
As Kagome stood in front of the mirror getting ready for her date with Inuyasha, a slip of the hand landed her fingers against a small, raised scar hidden below the hairline. At least that one was hidden unlike the few she had on her arms from the metal pins surgery, or the worst, a scar near her brow line from hitting the steering wheel. Kagome frowned, her eyes zoning in on the angry horizontal line. It was indented front and center like a frown line, where no amount of makeup could cover it up. She’d even thought about growing out her bangs and changing her hair style, but everyone insisted it was barely visible.
‘Don’t worry about it.’
‘Scar? Oh, I didn’t notice until you brought it up.’
They could just be saying such things to be nice. Well, regardless of their efforts to cheer her up, Kagome felt like the scar stood out like a bright spotlight centered directly on her face saying look at me! Remember me?! No, she honestly couldn’t remember! Didn’t want to remember! Why would anyone want to remember a near fatal accident?! All she wanted were the good memories to return. Wouldn’t it be so awesome if she could choose which memories could return? Any broken bones she’d had from the accident were healed now, but the missing memories a constant reminder her brain still had a ways to go.
Mrs. Higurashi called her from downstairs. “Kagome! Inuyasha’s here!”
She sighed and turned away from the mirror, taking a moment to release the negative thoughts. There was nothing Kagome could do about the scar short of expensive cosmetic surgery, but she genuinely looked forward to their dates, so it wouldn’t be fair or fun to bring Inuyasha down too.
“Be right down!” Kagome called back making sure her tone was chipper. She quickly finished checking to make sure her sundress was okay before grabbing her purse and heading down the staircase.
The couple’s plans for the day included walking around Ueno Park Zoo after lunch, then meeting Sango and Miroku for a double-date dinner. It was meant to be a lazy fun day. Even the late Spring weather was in their favor with a breeze cooling down the sun’s rays. Four months have passed, and with each day, Kagome’s comfort levels had increased thanks to all the support around her. Being with Inuyasha felt exciting, almost electrifying, bringing out those giddy crush-like emotions when someone is developing romantic feelings for someone. All through college Kagome managed to stay away from any serious relationships, and even before that no one had ever made her heart skip the way Inuyasha did. So, this was the first time that she could remember ever experiencing such intense emotions. Any sadness she’d been experiencing always melted away the moment his honey-hues and smile flashed her way.
As they walked around the zoo, it was in one of those moments of elation that Kagome had reached out and taken Inuyasha’s hand. Her cheeks were on fire and rosy blushed but delighted when he squeezed it back. He never did anything to make her feel embarrassed for the move, just a natural gesture between two young people on a date. She’d figured he wouldn’t make the first move out of respect for her, but it was something she’d been thinking about for a couple of weeks. What would it feel like? Was his hands sweaty? Strong? Soft? Would it bring back any connections? It didn’t trigger a rush of express memories, only a sense of normalcy as if her hand just fit perfectly in his. Not in terms of size but as if it belonged there, meant to be there all along. It was a little weird akin to a deja vu moment. But such feelings definitely brought a new flutter to her stomach and wave of heat, coloring her skin like a young schoolgirl with her first love.
There was no rhyme or reason to the pathways they chose around the zoo, simply looking at the different animal exhibits and taking in the relaxing scenery. Sometimes Inuyasha made her laugh by teasing the animals or getting their attention. The funniest had to be the monkeys who didn’t take kindly to his teasing. Kagome even joked that maybe it was because of his heritage that some could understand him on a level. Of course, he scoffed playfully at such a notion even though it seemed true when it came to canine species like the wolves or foxes who’d cowed down before them in the enclosure.
When they reached a concession stand three-quarter ways through the park, it was a perfect time for a break. The couple sat down on one of the benches to have a snack and rest their feet. Inuyasha purchased a parfait to share, but after a few minutes, a man and a woman suddenly walked up to them, catching them off guard.
“Kagome?” The woman excitedly questioned. “Oh, my Kami is that you?! Inuyasha, have you been hiding her away all this time?!”
Kagome looked to Inuyasha with a mild concern flashing in her eyes. She clearly didn’t recognize the excited person. But it was a common occurrence, so he immediately switched into support mode.
“No, it’s a bit more complicated,” Inuyasha told the woman. He then took his girlfriend’s hand to explain further. “This is Ms. Tanaka, Kagome. You’ve worked in the cubicle next to hers at work for about 3 years.”
Kagome looked back at the woman, “Oh! I’m so sorry, Ms. Tanaka, I don’t recognize you. The accident left me with… temporary amnesia.”
“Oh, my that’s terrible, but,” Ms. Tanaka waved her hand, “please don’t apologize. We were apprised of the accident and I’m just glad to see you! You look really great!”
“Thank you,” Kagome smiled sweetly at the woman’s kindness. “I hope once I regain my memories, I’ll be able to return to my normal life.”
“The boss told us your position is being held for you. Oh, I hope you get your memories back soon too! We really miss you at work! Inuyasha,” Ms. Tanaka wagged a finger at the man, “you make sure to help Kagome, okay?! We need her.”
Inuyasha chuckled at the woman’s bluntness. “I’m doing my best. Wouldn’t you say?” He questioned Kagome who responded with a blushing smile and nod.
“Inuyasha’s doing everything he can to help me.” Kagome added. “I don’t know what I would do without his support.”
“Awww!” Ms. Tanaka squealed. “You guys are always so adorable together! Anyways, we should get going, but it was so great to see you! I’m gonna tell all the office girls you’re looking well!”
The couple waved as Ms. Tanaka and the man took their leave. Well, that was certainly unexpected but positive. Unfortunately, the last of their ice cream had melted away, so Inuyasha tossed the remnants into a trash can. Neither said a word about the encounter. They just sat quietly on the bench amongst the ambient noise of zoo-goers. Assuming Inuyasha was also thinking about something, Kagome went inward, reflecting on the brief interaction and Inuyasha’s role in it. How he didn’t take the lead or explain things, allowing her to give whatever information she was comfortable with. It mean a lot to her, supportive, and holding her hand to remind her she wasn’t alone. This encounter wasn’t the first time they’d run into someone from her life. Sometimes Inuyasha knew them, sometimes he didn’t to explain, but Kagome never once had to feel flustered about having to deal with people. Perhaps the air of protection is what kept her feeling so safe with him.
Inuyasha spoke up quietly, breaking the silence. “Did you really mean what you said? A-About my support?”
Kagome looked over to see a hint of a blush coloring the man’s face which brought some of her own to her cheeks. “I did— I do. Everyone’s support has been wonderful, but… well, the times I spend with you I can almost forget about what happened and just… be happy.” Inuyasha looked up as her voice softened. “It really means a lot to me.”
She could tell that her flushed cheeks and the soft embarrassment registering in her eyes communicated all he needed to know of the feelings behind her words. But Inuyasha must have been a bit surprised, and not knowing how to respond because he continued to sit there staring and speechless. Kagome’s gaze unconsciously moved to his lips. Maybe it was the emotions of the moment along with his lowered defenses all combining together into a heightened sense of curiosity on her part… or perhaps desire, because Kagome felt a pull.
Her hand reached out tentatively to his cheek. “May I… kiss you,” she slipped out like a whisper in a breeze.
He smiled, placed his hand over hers and leaned into it with a nod. Kagome inched in, eyes closing as their lips gently made contact. Oh, wow… her mind froze as an electric shiver raced down her body. Inuyasha’s lips felt… natural upon hers. So even though all her memories had been lost, her body remembered and gave into the muscle memory of lips she’d kissed thousands of times before. Kagome pushed further, harder, eliciting a small sigh from the man that sent even more riveting shivers along her skin. Ugh! The exhilarating feelings from the kiss felt so amazing! When they finally pulled apart, Inuyasha placed one last chaste kiss on her forehead. It’s specific spot wasn’t lost on Kagome, and it made the ending feel so much sweeter that he’d chosen it.
“Was that, okay?” Inuyasha tentatively questioned.
Kagome smiled all starry-eyed and breathless at him. “Mmm, more than okay…”
And if she got her way, definitely more will be requested in the future.

My Sworn Brothers [Luffy x Crossover!Sister!Reader x Ace x Sabo]
A/N: Hey, so I want to write a High School AU of the many, many anime I have watched/ read. Bleach, Blue Exorcist, Devil is a Part-Timer, Durarara, Fairy Tail, Fullmetal Alchemist, High School of the Dead, InuYasha, Kill La Kill, Magi, My Hero Academia, Noragami, One Piece, Ouran High School Host Club, Pokemon, Saiki K, Sailor Moon, Seven Deadly Sins, Soul Eater, Sword Art Online, Vampire Knight, Your Lie in April, and Yu Gi-Oh. And I was wondering who would you like to be apart of your friend? And would you like to have a relation to any of the characters of the world.
Summary: [Y/N] is the oldest sworn sister to Luffy, Ace, and Sabo. And after finding Ace and Sabo aboard Luffy’s ship, the Thousand Sunny, she explains to them who she is, her other sworn brothers and sisters, embarrasses the three of them (a regular Tuesday for her), and threatens them with a chalkboard for interrupting her. Multiple times. In this story, most of the anime I am into is in the same world (Bleach, Blue Exorcist, Fairy Tail, Fullmetal Alchemist, InuYasha, Magi, My Hero Academia, Naruto, Noragami, Seven Deadly Sins, and Sword Art Online.  I might do a part 2.
Warnings: spoilers for the above mangas and animes, also, even though this is along the timeline of after the time skip (at some point), I took the creative liberty to have Ace alive during this meeting for a quad family reunion, might be language
Word Count: 1, 668
“How the hell am I suppose to believe that my three idiotic brothers would be in the same place at the exact same time I’m trying to find them?” the girl with [H/C] hair, old enough to be Luffy’s age, maybe a year younger or a year older than him.
“[Y/N]!!” the rubber boy flung himself at her in a hug.
She fell down on her butt from the impact of the hug. She groaned before pushing the boy off of her and standing up, dusting herself off. “Geez, Lu. I was on a job, just finished, and I heard something about a Straw Hat, a Fire Fist, and a blonde with a top hat that put the mad hatter to shame. I just came to see if the rumors are true.”
“What job did you have, sis?” Sabo said as he sipped a smoothie created from Vinsmoke Sanji.
“Well, you see. In the ten years I’ve been gone, I’ve been busy. Both with being lazy and being diligent.” the girl explained. “I am a member of Fairy Tail. Dragon Slayer Magic, particularly fire, water, earth, air, and plant. Requip the Knight. Some space jumping there and vortex opening here.”
“You got the two mixed up, kid.” Ace said from his spot next to Sabo.
The girl grinned an evil grin. “Oh, did I, Ace of Clubs?”
The raven haired pirate groaned at the nickname while Luffy’s crew members wondered after the nickname. Ace kept giving her the don’t-tell-them-anything look with a cut-it-out motion. She, like most people she knew, did not listen to reason.
“Well, when we were younger, I attempted to teach the pour unfortunate souls that you call Luffy, Sabo, and Ace golf. And we played mini-gold. First hole we went to, the club flew out of Ace’s hand and crashed into the window where the pour lady working the club stand was clonked on the head and fell unconscious. Another fun fact: I’m overly competitive and therefore master of mini gold. Luffy on the other hand... beat my bowling high score of just a little over four hundred points.” [Y/N] explained.
“THAT’S NOT HOW YOU PLAY GOLF, YOU IDIOT!” Usopp shouted at his captain.
“Ace was a lot worse. However, on the eighteenth hole, got a hole in one. Although with team sports, I always sided with Luffy ‘cuz he was the baby of the family.” she explained.
“Never play Volleyball with her unless you’re Luffy.” Sabo warned the Straw Hat Pirates.
“Could you... possibly.... explain who you are?” asked Nami.
“That’s an easy and excellent question, m’lady. I am [Y/N] [L/N], the daughter of the Demon King from the Demon Clan, Niece of Solomon, adoptive daughter of the great dragon, The Curse of Depravity, a mage of S-Class ranking, the best older sister anyone can have, a Shinigami, and the Pirate Fairy.” [Y/N] said with her hands on her hips like wonder woman.
“You’re not wonder woman, dumbass.” Ace muttered.
She scowled at the boy (who was now physically older than her). “I know that, asshole.” Ace shrugged his shoulders at that. “Anyways, I should get going. I’m here with my teammates. And Salamander will have a cow if he finds out I’m on a Pirate Ship. Which may or may not include Natsu asking you all to fight him at once for his sister.” [Y/N] shrugged.
“SISTER?!” Luffy screeched.
“YOU ALREADY REPLACED US?!” Ace and Sabo said in unison.
“This is why I never took you to Amusement parks or sat next to you on a ride.” she clenched at her swollen ears.  “No, I was merely saying that I have something called [Y/N]’s Council of Brothers. They’re basically a band of boys I feel need my protection, wisdom, and power to embarrass them until they’re six feet under and rotting.”
“She’s dark.” Nami said. “But can you explain this whole Council of Brothers thing. Because I’m not sure they,” the ginger pointed to the three brothers, “understand.”
“Alright! I will go over a lesson here!” and suddenly a white board appeared by her side with writing already on it.
“Where did you get the white board?” asked Luffy.
“That’s not important right now.” she scowled. “Yes, Sabo.”
“Was that Whiteboard always there and we just never noticed it?” the blonde asked.
“No. Ace if this is a question about the white board, I will smack you with the same gold club that flew through that window. All questions about the stupid whiteboard will be answered after I explained everything. Got it?”
The three brothers grumbled out a, “Yes.”
“Good. Anyways, to start it off I have two half-brothers. Meliodas and Zeldris.” she slapped a pointer stick against the whiteboard.
“Did she always have that?” Ace asked, whispering it to his two brothers.
“I don’t know. I’m just glad someone noticed it besides me.” Sabo murmured back.
“SILENCE, YOU INSOLENCE FOOLS!” and she threw a frying pan which hit Ace in the head.
Why does she have a frying pan in her requips? Sabo wondered in his head, not wanting to get hit in the head with anything else she might have to throw at them.
“Anyways, Meliodas and Zeldris are my half-brothers. Zeldris is the captain of the Demon Clan’s ten Commandments while Meliodas is the captain of Liones’s Seven Deadly Sins of which I am co-captain and the Phoenix Sin of Darkness. To be fair, I look more like my mother and I think the only thing me, Meliodas, and Zeldris share is our dumbassery we inherited from our father. Second off, my cousin is Magi Aladdin since my mother is his father, Solomon,’s sister. Now, that’s enough of my actual biological family. Now, I won’t go into detail about those three. Because you already seem well-acquainted with one another. Anyways, onto the next one. The next one on my list of brothers is a half-demon named Rin who is the son of Satan along with his younger brother, Yukio, but he doesn’t really need protection. next is Kazuto Kirigaya also known as Kirito. I prefer to call him that. He got stuck in a game where if you die there, you die in real life, but he defeated them. next, we have Satan himself, a king of demons, Sadou Maou. He works as a part-timer for a fast food chain which is sad to be honest. Next, we have Alibaba Saluja, a prince and a king’s candidate, also my cousin’s best friend. He wields the fire djinn, Amon. Also, he’s trying to be a gladiator while figuring out his feelings for Fanalis and former slave Morgiana. Next, we have actual God Yato who is a former god of calamity and a current god of war. I think. I’m not quite sure. But he and his two regalia, Yukine and a Nora named Kazuma, but also Kazune under Yato, must be protected by me at all cost. Then, we have Edward Elric, a alchemist missing both a leg and an arm because he wanted to see his mom’s smile again which kicks me in the heartstrings whenever I hear it. His brother, Alphonse, is an honorary member of the Council of Brothers. And he used to be entirely a soul attached to a suit of armor. No joke.”
“Does no one else notice that they are mostly raven haired or blonde?” Nico Robin commented.
The Straw Hat Pirates turned to the three sworn brothers who just shrugged their shoulders at that. “I admit I am guilty for that. But my actual brothers are raven headed and blonde, so that may be the reason. Anyways, off to the next people. Now, this person could make Luffy look like a genius. Sometimes. Natsu Dragneel, a salmon haired fire dragon slayer, is the brother of Zeref Dragneel, the black wizard, and also simultaneously END, the most powerful demon of the book of zeref which makes him one of the top fifteen most powerful demons. Next, we have strawberry boi, Ichigo Kurosaki, a shinigami who I’ve been helping train. He could see the dead and then he discovered his spiritual power, stole the shinigami powers of Rukia Kuchiki, and started to exorcist hollows and send souls to the soul society. Then, we have my favorite band of brothers since they could literally be in a band. Broccoli Boi, Izuku Midoriya, kinda has a power augmentation quirk, best way to describe it without giving too much away, Porcupine Katsuki Bakugo who can blow things up with help from his sweat. Zuko Wannabe Shoto Todoroki who can wield fire and ice. Also, his brother Touya may or may not be Dabi. Then, Pikachu Kaminari Denki who can utilize elctricity, but too much and he makes Luffy look like a genius. No joke. Well… maybe… I don’t really know. Anyways, then we have speedster Tenya Iida. Oh, there’s sharkboy Eijiro Kirishima. He can make himself go as hard as rock, but he has limitations. Then, we have spidertape Hanta Sero that can shoot tape out of his elbows. Then, half-demon InuYAsha who is the son of a dog demon and a mortal woman. There’s also Shippo who is an adorable little kitsune. And I think I got everyone.” the girl looked at her board before smacking it again as she noticed Luffy had begun to doze off while Ace had totally fallen asleep.
The action alerted the two boys to wake up at once and glare at their older sister. And then, a silver haired undead man with a flying blue cat landed on the floor of the ship. “Thank goodness we found you. C’mon. We got a mission and you and your ‘Team Natsu’ have a job request from the old man and a princess.”
“So Hisui and Bartra both agree to have us do something, but what is this so-called mission?” asked [Y/N].
Ban smirked. “We’re fighting slave-trading pirates.”
“I want in!” Luffy cheered.

NITPICKING over the YashaHime designs/colors! With character commentaries too
Tumblr media
There is WAY to much red on Moroha’s design. She has several articles of clothing and they’re ALL red!!!! (Except for her undershirt). Yes I KNOW Inu-Yasha himself walks around in red from head to toe (well, from neck to ankles) but his are only 2 pieces of clothing (plus the undershirt)!!!! Moroha has gloves, legwarmers, a bow AND a cape as accessories and they’re ALL red!!!! Two shades of red, but still! Why not make one or two of these white? (r.i.p. the white bow, it’s still canon in my heart!) Or black, I don’t know, some other color, geez. I like her outfit, I like the cape and bow, but honestly. Colors.
Also I love that she has Inu-Yasha’s personality but I hope they show us she takes after her mom in some ways too (I’m glad she seems to have inherited the spiritual powers and is also an archer!). PS: How come she grew up alone, like??? OK I get Inuyasha and Kagome are obviously missing but Kohaku seems to be around and he is basically her uncle so??? Where did this kid end up??
Tumblr media
A little intrigued over the twins’ eye colors and their red streak of hair...Are the streaks natural or are they dyed? It’s probably natural but it’s kinda weird it’s just this one streak....Someone pointed out those colors are all from Sesshoumaru’s face markings and like, yes, true but...why the hell would the marks on his SKIN end up on his kids’ hair and EYES?? Then again this is anime we’re talking about, I can’t really expect much sense in their genetics can I? It would have been cool if they had some markings on their faces too actually...Anyways...Again, a little intrigued, but not gonna give it much thought because like I just said, it’s anime.
Tumblr media
I’m not very fond of Towa’s outfit tbh but eh, it’s fine. People seem to like it though! I’m also a little intrigued over her personality, though it makes sense she is more soft considering she was raised by Souta, not Sesshoumaru. Setsuna on the other hand seems to be just like Sesshoumaru, but did he even get to raise her? As for her design, I just find the fur on her boots weird, but other than that, it’s cool.
Additional thought: They are at least 50% youkai and honestly, they don’t seem to have enough youkai features? I mean, at least Towa has the silver hair, but Setsuna just looks human! With purple(?) eyes, ok, but still. Seems like a flaw in the design to me
Tumblr media
Hisui has Miroku’s face!!!! And uses beads on his arm!!! And wields a (the?) Hiraikotsu!!! And flies around with Kirara!!! :D But wait that means Kirara is not with Sango! D:
Also hmm now that I think about it I’m not sure I want it to be THE Hiraikotsu...But it probably is....I mean, Sango is badass anyway, and passing down her weapon to one of her kids makes sense and is cool but the hanyo girls have their own weapons, which means Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru kept their swords... Hmm I don’t know. [EDIT: Yep, it’s Sango’s Hiraikotsu]. Also since he is a demon slayer like his mother, it would have been cool if he wore purple like his father? Does this color came from Kohaku? That could be nice...Not like they all have to wear colors after someone but....Maybe one of his sisters wears purple? That would be cool too... By the way
Where!!!! are!!!! the other MirSan kids?????? Glad we finally got to see ONE of them - After the main 3 designs were out I was afraid we wouldn’t see any in the beginning of the series - but still!!!! the others?? Someone even pointed out it was weird we had these Sesshoumaru twins but no sign of the twin girls we actually see in the original series???? Are they demon slayers too? At least one of them gotta be, right?! And they wherever Sango and Miroku are? Was Hisui separated from them long ago too?? so many questions!!!
Tumblr media
Kohaku looks good! I mean, he didn’t change much - though I wonder if there wasn’t anything better to add to his design than that little cape thingy? And why does it have red in it? Kinda clashes with the rest of the outfit. I know capes are cool, I like they added something to him, but it t looks kinda weird, I don’t know. I mean, can live with that, but eh....
I gotta say though, I wasn’t expecting Kohaku to be much relevant in this series, considering they’re leaving the old gang out of the picture but!!!! It’s fitting, it’s cool, yes I like it, yes good!!! :D Also like, he obviously mentored those kids, as he is the head of the clan, so he is clearly the cool uncle? I hadn’t even thought about that before but niiiiice
Tumblr media
On a different note, here’s to hope we get Kouga’s kid(s) at some point too!!!! I mean, I think it’s a given - if the series gets far enough, we’ll surely meet them, right? Also I want to see grown up Shippou!!!! Who, by the way, has a stand-in in the new group too? This funny looking raccoon youkai? what? okay I guess...Anyway....
Also whenever the parents show up, it would be cool if they had updated outfits or some new accessories - having the old gen looking exactly the same is such a boring decision...

Mahiru walked through the marketplace and scanned the goods on display. He needed more parchment to practise making spell tags. He also hoped he would be able to find charms that he could enchant and gift to people. Behind him, Kuro carried the scrolls he had purchased. Even though he was uncomfortable with crowds, he offered to go to the market with him.
“There’s only a few more things I have to find. When we get back to the camp, I’ll cook that expensive seafood ramen cup for you.” Mahiru said and hooked his arm around Kuro’s. They walked close together and it was as if they were shopping together like a normal couple. He wanted to lean his head on his shoulder but he felt a little shy with so many people around them.
“Tonight’s the first new moon of the month. I’ll be a weak little kitten then so you should treat me kindly.” Kuro joked with Mahiru but he kept his words a whisper. He didn’t want anyone to overhear them and learn his weakness. Each half demon had a time period they become human and vulnerable. He was careful to keep when he changed a secret from others but Mahiru was the exception. He trusted Mahiru with his life.
“I don’t sense a jewel shard nearby so we don’t have to worry about fighting demons. If one does attack us, I’ll protect you, Kuro. I doubt it’ll come to that though.” Mahiru reached up and fondly scratched Kuro’s ears. From the way his ears relaxed and moved slightly, he knew that he enjoyed the simple touch. It was amusing to him that he would act like a cat sometimes. “Give me a few of those bags. I’ll help you carry them back to the cave.”
“It’s fine. I’m going to earn three cup ramens by carrying so much for you.” He shook his head and lifted the bags out of his reach. Mahiru rolled his eyes at the childish gesture and stood on his toes to try to take one of the bags. He was grateful for his kindness but Mahiru wanted to share the work. They were partners, after all. “Stop teasing me, Kuro.”
“I would call this being a doting lover.” They bantered until Mahiru wrapped his arms around his neck. A light force pushed his hands down but he wasn’t concerned since he recognized Mahiru’s spiritual power. With a light kiss to distract him, he stole one of the bags from Kuro’s hand. He rocked back onto his feet and grinned up at him.
“Now that one of your hands are free, you can hold mine while we head back to the campsite.” Mahiru said and held out his hand to Kuro. He threaded their fingers together and they started to leave the market place. “I picked up a few treats for Kirara. I don’t know what Licht usually feed her so I hope she likes these treats.”
Mahiru noticed someone approach them but he didn’t recognize the person. From his clothes, the man appeared to be a simple villager. He stopped in front of him and pointed to Mahiru. “Excuse me, are you a priest? My onsen is being haunted by a spirit and I have been searching for help. Priest rarely visit our village though. Please, exorcise the demon for us. We will house you for the night.”
“Of course, we’ll help.” Mahiru was quick to accept. He could hear how desperate the man was and he wondered how long the spirit had been haunting his home. He was sympathetic to his plight. A night at an onsen would also be relaxing after the fights they faced over the past week. “We’re friends with a monk and he has a lot of experience with exorcisms.”
“Thank you, kind Priest.” The man shook his hand excitedly. “I will show you to my onsen. It is at the top of the mountain.”
Tumblr media
“This is a fancy onsen. I didn’t have to lie about a ghost being here for a free stay because Mahiru already did that for me.” Hyde joked and Licht rolled his eyes. No matter how much he kicked him for tricking humans, he would continue to do so. He didn’t know how he was able to become a monk. Despite his personality, Licht had to admit that the demon was a skilled monk and fighter.
“Did the onsen owner tell you about the spirit that’s lingering here? Kirara doesn’t sense a demon nearby. I haven’t fought a spirit before but I think it’ll be similar to demons.” Licht leaned against the wall and adjusted the straps on his boots. He glanced around the lobby and noted, “The onsen doesn’t look busy. It’s more like a haunted house.”
“Not many people are willing to stay in an onsen with spirits. Mahiru said the owner sounded desperate for help and this is likely the reason.” He nodded towards the empty lobby.
Hyde pulled his fencing sword from his belt and tossed it into the air. The sword became embedded in the floor and Licht was shocked to see that it was now a staff. “The owner asked us to perform the exorcism after the sun sets but I want to begin now. This is a good chance for my brother to relax with his mate. He hasn’t told me this but I know he would appreciate alone time.”
“That’s surprisingly thoughtful for a demon.” Even as he said the words, Licht thought of how different Hyde was from the demons he fought in the past. While there were a few intelligent demons who resembled humans, they were violent and dangerous creatures. On the other hand, Hyde clearly cared for the people around him. He also protected humans to keep a promise to his lost lover.
“I was hoping you would think I’m more than just an oni dressed as a monk by now, Lichtan. My staff will point us to any dark auras within the building. Hopefully, it’ll take us to the hot springs so we can have a little fun while we’re investigating.” He laughed even as Licht kicked him for the joke. His staff fell to the ground and pointed to the hallway. Hyde used his feet to move his staff towards the hot spring entrance. “It looks like my spiritual powers are so strong that I predicted the future! Let’s go.”
“The only thing worse than a demon is a pervert.” He picked up the staff and swung it at his head. Hyde didn’t try to dodge his attack and he was knocked into the wall. Licht gripped the collar of his shirt and dragged him down the hallway. “Let’s find the spirit.”
Tumblr media
The hot spring relaxed Mahiru and he sank into the warm water until it reached his shoulders. He hadn’t been able to enjoy a warm bath in a long time. Mahiru wanted to soak in the water before they tried to purify the spirit. He planned to speak with Hyde about the best way to find it after a quick soak. He had placed a few spell tags next to the pool and he organized them into piles.
The door slid open behind him and Mahiru looked over his shoulder to see who entered. Due to the mist around them, he could only see that the man had dark. He didn’t recognize him at first and instinctively grabbed his arrow resting nearby. Mahiru stopped once he realized that the man was Kuro as a human. “You almost gave me a heart attack, Kuro. You should’ve knocked or said something.”
“The moon is out sooner than I thought it would and I didn’t realize I transformed.” Kuro told him as he slipped off his robe. A blush appeared on Mahiru’s cheek and he wondered if it was caused by the steam. “Is it too hot in there? I’ll get a fan to help you cool off. It’ll be troublesome to carry you out if you faint in the water.”
“I’m fine, Kuro.” Mahiru told him. He could hear Kuro’s kindness beneath his sarcastic voice and smiled to himself. While he was human now, he had a toned body and he stared at the muscles on his arms. He couldn’t help but imagine himself being held by him and Mahiru was glad Kuro couldn’t read his thoughts. “It was kind of the owner to give us a room with a private spring.”
“We have this pool to ourselves. Hyde stopped by to tell me that he’s going to exorcise the spirit on his own.” Kuro sat next to Mahiru and leaned back against the rock wall. In the corner of his eyes, he watched Mahiru. He thought he was attractive but he didn’t know if he should close the small space between them. Aside from a few kisses, they hadn’t been able to be intimate much. He was afraid to move too quickly and make a mistake.
“I don’t know if he said that to give us time alone but I should thank him later. He’s a monk so he should be able to handle things on his own.” Mahiru reasoned. The manager had specifically asked him for help so he felt a little guilty that he wasn’t searching for the ghost. Yet, he couldn’t help but be grateful to spend time with Kuro. “We can relax tonight. Can you turn around for me, Kuro?”
“Okay.” He didn’t know why Mahiru would ask him to but he turned so his back was facing him. Kuro felt his fingers run over the water droplets on his back until his hands settled on his shoulders. Gently, he massaged his muscles and loosened the knots he had. Kuro turned slightly to look back at Mahiru and saw how flustered it was.
“It’s stressful fighting every night. The hot spring is relaxing but I thought a massage would help more. After I finish, will you give me a back massage as well?” Mahiru held his breath as he waited for his answer. Kuro didn’t know how he expected for him to answer when his touch was so distracting. The only thing he could focus on was his hands on his naked skin. Occasionally, he would stop kneading his shoulders to rub his back. “You have a scar here. I wish I could heal it for you.”
Mahiru hesitantly touched the scar where Kuro had been shot by an arrow and pinned to a tree. He kissed the mark gently and then leaned his cheek against his strong back. He thought of the dangerous battles they would have to face in the future and vowed that he wouldn’t let Kuro be hurt again. Kuro turned around and brushed his wet hair from his brown eyes. Then, he took his hand and placed it over the scar on his chest. “You already did more than heal it, Mahiru.”
The day they met, Mahiru had freed him from Tsubaki’s curse. His tender hands then erased the scars on his heart and mended the rift between his family. Kuro was certain he would’ve never met Hyde and Lily again if it wasn’t for Mahiru. Their eyes met for a moment but then Mahiru looked down at their reflection in the water. “You keep looking away from me. Do I look strange as a human?”
“No. It’s different though. Dark hair suits you but I do miss your ears. They were cute.” Mahiru said in a teasing voice and ran his fingers through his shaggy hair. His light hair was the same colour as the moon and the unique feature reflected his calming personality. No matter his appearance though, he loved Kuro. “You don’t have your fangs either.”
Mahiru placed his finger against his lips and felt Kuro kiss his skin lightly. He wrapped his hand around his and lifted his wrist so he could press a kiss there as well. He wondered if Kuro could feel his pulse racing when he kissed him. The shyness Mahiru had earlier was gone and he leaned towards him.
Mahiru heard a splash behind him and he jumped back. Afraid that someone had entered the hot spring, he instinctively grabbed Kuro’s jacket next to the pool and covered himself. He looked back into the pool and found that the sound was caused by a peach falling into the water. Embarrassment coloured his cheeks and he smiled awkwardly.
“That was surprising. It was just a peach. Do you want to go back inside and have these as a snack? We should ask the manager before we pick them though. I’ve never seen fruits this big before— Oh God.” Mahiru’s eyes widen as he dropped the peach. The shock in his voice made Kuro jump to his feet and he ran to his side. “The peach has a human face.”
“Troublesome.” He picked up the fruit and looked up at the tree beside the hot spring. “I’ve heard of cursed trees that can grow fruits with human faces. It’s said that you’ll become immortal if you eat its fruit. Long ago, a group of farmers would sacrifice priests with a lot of spiritual power to these trees. I thought the trees were all destroyed since they weren’t able to maintain the trees for long.”
“Why would a tree like that be in an onsen? We have to talk to Hyde and Licht about this.” Mahiru was worried about his friends and he didn’t want to waste his time returning to his room. He took Kuro’s red jacket and slipped it on. His jacket was a little big on him so he had to tie it around himself. “It’s lucky that I bought my arrows and spell tags in here with me. Let’s go, Kuro.”
“We have the worst luck with inns.” Kuro groaned as he pulled on his pants. As he tied the tessaiga to his belt, he couldn’t help but glance at the new moon in the night sky. He didn’t know how well he could fight as a human but he would do everything he could to protect Mahiru. The cursed trees feasted on people’s spiritual energy. Of the four of them, Mahiru had the most energy and the manager likely targeted him for being a priest.
Tumblr media
“The trail ends at this wall. We should look for a hidden door. I would suggest that we ask the owner where the door could be but I don’t think he’ll be honest. The longer I’m here, the stranger this onsen is. There’s no one here. I understand the lack of guests but there should be a few workers here. He can’t maintain this large onsen on his own.” Hyde muttered. His staff had led them to the basement of the onsen.
He briefly considered returning to his brother to speak with him but he didn’t want to endanger Kuro when he was human. He needed to find what the onsen was hiding before the demon could target them. Hyde knocked on the wall lightly to find where the door was. He paused when Licht placed his hand on his shoulder and stood beside him. “Do you sense a demon?”
“Only you.” He didn’t take his hand off his shoulder as he pivot his body to kick through the wall. Licht used his grip on Hyde to balance himself as the bricks crashed to the ground in front of them. He waved the dust from the air and he coughed slightly. Once the air had cleared, he found another wall blocking their path. Tree roots hanged from the ceiling and Hyde pushed them aside enough for Licht to slip through. He followed him into the hidden room.
Among the tree roots were large pots. He opened one to investigate and he immediately had to cover his nose due to the smell. The pot was filled with peaches, bones and wine. Hyde quickly covered the jug again and searched the room for any hints of what the peaches could be. He picked up one of the tree roots and thought he could feel it pulsing in his hand.
“Someone is harvesting human-faced fruits. These roots are huge so I can only imagine how large the tree is. The person tending to the tree has sacrificed a lot of people as well. The person of immortality can turn humans into demons.” Licht’s hands tightened over the tree root. “We need to tell the others and burn the tree to the ground.”
“You’ll destroy the inn if you do that.” A tiny voice argued and Licht followed to a stone box. At first glance, it seemed to be a small replica of a farm. Then he noticed that the people within were moving and were far too realistic to be dolls. He carefully laid his hand next to one of the people so he could lift them out of the box. “Are you a koro-pok-guru and that’s why you’re so tiny?”
“My name is Tetsu and I’m the true owner of this onsen. I hope you’re enjoying your visit.” The blond man said and climbed into Licht’s hand. “This onsen has been in my family for generation so you can’t burn it down. I know where the main tree is and I’ll take you to it.”
“If you’re the owner, who is that man that brought us here?” Hyde had to question him since it was clear that the inn held a lot of death and secrets. The other man had clearly lured them into a trap and he didn’t know if Tetsu would do the same.
“He’s telling the truth, Greed.” Only his siblings would call him by the nickname. A tiny bat flew in front of him and he recognized Hugh. “That man came to the onsen a month ago holding a jewel shard and a seed. With those two things, he shrank us and took the onsen. He has been sacrificing our guests to his tree ever since. I can’t fight him because he made me so small and he has a shikon jewel.”
“Well, you were already tiny, Hugh.” Hyde said and a powerful gust of wind struck him. “I was going to add that you were strong even when you’re short, Nii-san. Kuro is here too so let’s go explain the situation to him too.”
Tumblr media
“This is the largest human-faced tree on the property. All of the other trees seem to be connected to this one as well. If we cut this tree down, the others should be destroyed as well.” Mahiru looked up at the large peach tree. He used a spell to follow the spiritual power within the tree and it led them to a cliff. “We don’t have anything to cut down the tree and kill it. Setting the tree on fire could be dangerous if the flames become too large and travels… I can sense a jewel shard approaching us.”
As he turned around, Mahiru drew an arrow from his quiver. The onsen owner approached them but he didn’t lower his bow. He held a peach in his hand and there was a faint glow in the fruit. Mahiru shifted his aim to the man’s hand, hoping to take the shard without killing him. But then, the man ate the peach with the shard and his body began to change.
“I become immortal once I eat this peach. Your arrow can’t hurt me.” His thin body changed and grew until he resembled a stone ogre. Kuro gripped the hilt of his sword but he knew that he wouldn’t be able to help in a fight since he was a human. He glanced at the lowering moon and prayed for the sun to rise soon. He couldn’t let Mahiru fight alone.
“The effects of the peach are temporary but my tree will soon be fully grown. I only need to water it with your blood.”
“I won’t let you touch Kuro.” Mahiru stepped in front of him with his arrow raised. He didn’t know if his arrow could piece stone but he would protect Kuro. He drew his power from his body and enchanted the arrow. They were cornered on the cliff so it was impossible for them to run.
“Mahiru, watch out!” He was focused on the man so he didn’t see the tree move behind him. Mahiru suddenly sensed the aura of the tree change and become demonic as it came to life. A branch swung down at him and Kuro pushed him out of the path of its attack. The demon tree stabbed his shoulder. He was dragged to the tree and vines wrapped around him.
Mahiru stood and saw him struggling against the tree. The man stumbled to the tree and raised his fists to attack Kuro. He didn’t have time to properly aim and instinctively shot an arrow at the man to stop him from reaching Kuro. The arrow struck the man’s stomach where the jewel shard was glowing. The jewel fell to the ground at the man’s feet. Before the man could pick up the shard, Mahiru shot another arrow at his hand. “Get away from Kuro and the shard!”
“How dare you!” The man screamed and rushed towards him. Mahiru reached behind him for another arrow and took a step back. He almost stepped off the cliff but he managed to stop himself. In the moment he was distracted, the man was in front of him. He raised his hands to protect himself but his barrier wasn’t effective against a human.
“Stop!” Kuro ignored the pain of the branches digging into his pain and broke away from the tree. He raced forward to save Mahiru and he threw his body against the man before he was able to reach him. The momentum of his attack sent them both falling off the cliff and he heard Mahiru calling his name.
Mahiru stretched out his hand to catch him but someone pulled him away from the cliff. He tried to push the person away and save Kuro. It would be nearly impossible for him to survive the fall while he was human. Licht’s voice broke through his desperation. “You can’t jump after him, Mahiru. Are you crazy?”
“I have to do something!” Mahiru broke away from him and knelt at the edge of the cliff. He looked over the ledge but he couldn’t see the bottom. His heart sank to the ground at the thought of what could’ve happened to Kuro. He tightened his hands in the dirt. “Why would he act so reckless when he’s human? He didn’t need to go that far to protect me.”
“You shouldn’t cry, Mahiru. Mr. Cat fought honourably and I’m sure he’s fine.” Licht told him and Mahiru couldn’t understand why his tone was so indifferent.
“Inns are troublesome.” For a moment, Mahiru thought he heard Kuro’s voice. He looked back over the edge and, with the rising sun, he saw Kuro on the ledge with Hyde. They climbed back up the cliff and Mahiru helped him onto the ledge once he was closer. The moment he was safe on the cliff again, Mahiru hugged him.
“Thank goodness, you’re safe.” Relief and happiness caused tears to enter his eyes. Kuro tenderly rubbed his back and he felt guilty that he worried him.
Hyde climbed onto the cliff and said, “It was lucky that I was there to catch Kuro. Lichtan didn’t tell you that I was going to investigate the bottom of the cliff, did he? You were worried for nothing, Mahiru. Don’t you feel silly for crying and worrying?”
“This isn’t something to tease me about.” Mahiru wiped his eyes and frowned at Hyde. “Sit, Hyde!”
Kuro fell to the ground and groaned softly. “I’m the one with the enchantment, not me brother. I’m glad I’m a demon again or that would hurt more.”
“I’m sorry, Kuro.” Mahiru sat next to him and stroked his ears.

The snow touched one of InuYasha's triangular shaped dog ears and he flicked it in response. Yellow eyes looked up at the dark sky and the falling snow. He smiled as he thought about whatever this “Christmas” surprise was Kagome had in store for all of them. She had taken it upon herself to force them all to take a few days off from shard hunting to celebrate this holiday from her time.
InuYasha still didn't understand the strange custom. Kagome had forced him to cut down a tree with Tetsusaiga and she had taken it inside Kaede's little hut. There, she had fashioned little baubles and decorations from plants, berries, fabric and other found items available to her. On the very top she placed a five point star she had managed to make from twigs and twine. Once the star was placed, she stood back and admired her work.
“Isn't it beautiful, InuYasha?” she asked him.
“Keh. I don't get it, Kagome. What's the point of all this damn stuff?”
Sighing, Kagome shook her head and tried to explain it again. “It's an old custom from the west. It brightens up the house during the winter and it provides a place to put all the presents under.”
Shippo leapt up onto Kagome's shoulder and looked at her excitedly. “Presents?”
Kagome giggled and ruffled the kit's hair. “Yes, Shippo, presents. We all get eachother a present, or sometimes we just choose one person to give something to randomly so evertyone still gets a gift but no one has to spend too much money to buy everyone gifts. That's called a secret Santa.”
“Santa?” Shippo looked puzzled at the word as he spoke it.
“Santa is a magical man who's supposed to live up at the north pole with all of his helpers who make all of his toys for all of the children in the world. Then, on Christmas Eve, he loads up his sleigh with all the toys, hooks up his eight flying reindeer and delivers them to all the children.”
“In one day?” Shippo asked, wonderously.
“Yep. He's magic, remember?”
“Wooooow...” he said as he looked on, a sparkle in his big eyes.
“Keh. Sounds like a load of crap to me,” InuYasha grumbled as he slumped down on the floor.
“Kagome turned to him and glared. “You live in a world with demons and magical swords. You can't believe a man can use some kind of magic to do something wondrous like bring joy to children?”
InuYasha flushed at her scolding. “I... I guess...” he mumbled.
Miroku stepped forward and pulled Kagome's attention from the grumpy hanyou. “Tell us more about this “secret Santa” custom, Kagome.”
Smiling, Kagome clapped her hands together and happily replied, “Well, we all write our names and a few ideas for things we would want or need on a piece of paper and then fold them so we don't know who's is who's. Then we place them all in a container and swish them around to mix them up and we all draw a name one at a time. We don't tell who we got and then on Christmas morning we reveal who our secret giftee is.”
“Ohhhhhh Kagome can we do it? Please, Kagome, pleeeeeeeease?” Shippo begged, jumping up and down excitedly. Kagome laughed boisterously and nodded her head at the happy fox child. She bent over her giant yellow backpack and pulled out a notebook and pencils. Carefully, she ripped six pieces of equally sized paper and handed one each to Kaede, Sango, Miroku, Shippo and InuYasha, keeping one for herself.
Over the next several minutes the sounds of scratching, erasing, and heavy sighs were heard throughout the tiny hut as each of them thought about what to put on their slip of paper. Finally, they each had something written and folded their papers. Kagome grabbed a small bowl and had each of them place their paper in it. She used her hand to swirl them around for a few seconds before she leaned down in front of Shippo and said, “You pick first, Shippo.”
Positively beaming, Shippo reached his tiny hand in the bowl and drew a name. He opened his paper and smiled gleefully. Kagome moved on to Sango, then Miroku, Kaede, and InuYasha, until there was only one paper left that she took for herself. She opened it to discover that she had drawn InuYasha's name. He had only written one thing below his name, 'Acceptance'. Eyes brimming with tears, Kagome tucked the slip of paper into her jacket pocket and quickly wiped them away before anyone could notice.
The next few days went by with everyone talking in hushed tones and quickly clamming up when someone came into view. Shippo had basically disappeared, but they knew he'd be back by Christmas morning. InuYasha was the strangest of them all. He kept to himself even more than normal, not even speaking to Kagome. She had hoped he would ask her advice on his gift, but she knew he was probably trying to figure it out on his own. As for Kagome, she had a big plan for InuYasha. Unfortunately, it wasn't something he could unwrap in the traditional sense, but she looked forward to giving it to him anyway.
Kagome awoke Christmas morning to a very excited Shippo jumping up and down on her chest and yelling, “Kagome! Kagome, wake up! It's time for Santa!” Smiling, she rubbed her eyes and smiled at the young boy.
“Alright, Shippo, I'm up. Go tell the others I'll make some breakfast with Kaede and then we can open presents, ok?” Shippo happily bounded away to do as she had asked of him. As she sat up, Kagome stretched out her arms above her head and looked around the small hut. Kaede was already up, with a fire started in her fire pit. She had put on some rice and as a special treat had gathered a few eggs from the locals to make for the group for this special day. Kagome also had a special surprise for everyone stashed away in her backpack and she couldn't wait to see all their faces when she let them try it.
Rising from her pallet on the floor, she walked over to Kaede and looked down at the small pot of rice she was stiring. “That looks so good, Kaede. I'm starving!”
“Aye, child. We best get these eggs ready before InuYasha busts down my hut and Shippo loses all his patience and tears into his own gift before it's time.” Kagome giggled as she grabbed another pan to make the eggs in.
She had just cracked the last egg into the pan when Miroku, Sango and Shippo all joined them. Kagome frowned and looked down at Shippo. “Where's InuYasha?” she asked.
“I dunno, Kagome. I looked everywhere. Even in the sacred tree. I couldn't find him anywhere.”
Kagome's face furrowed into a frown. It wasn't like him to disappear without telling them, except in the case of... But no. Surely he wouldn't do that to her on Christmas when he knew how much it meant to her? She pulled in a deep breath to keep herself calm and to stave off the tears that threatened to fall.
The group ate in mostly silence, sensing Kagome's tension. Even Shippo's cheery mood had dampened somewhat. But then, something magical happened. Shippo's ear flicked, his nose twitched and he shot up from his spot on the floor and ran off out of the hut in the direction of the forest.
Kagome quickly tried to go after him, but the young kit was too fast for her. “Shippo!” she called, but he was already out of sight beyond the treeline. Sighing, she returned to her own spot on the floor and shoved the food in her mouth with obvious annoyance. It was just as she had finished her last bite of egg that Shippo came bounding back in the hut, followed by InuYasha.
Kagome breathed a huge sigh of relief, along with the rest of the group. But she glared up at him anyway. “Where were you, InuYasha?”
Face flushed, he responded, “I was... gettin' my gift. Sorry I'm late...” he said, sheepishly. Kagome smiled up at him and grabbed the bowl of food she had saved for him and handed it to him as he sat down next to her on the floor. He began shoveling in his mouth in pure InuYasha fashion and she couldn't help but giggle. He looked over at her, his cheeks puffed up from all the food and said, “Wha?” through his mouthful.
She simply shook her head and said, “Nothing, InuYasha. I'm just glad you're here is all.” She then stood and walked over to her backpack and rummaged through it until she found her special surprise for everyone. Everyone looked at her curiously as she pulled out little paper packets and a few long thin bars with the word 'Hershey's' in big letters on the wrapping. “Shippo, could you go get a small bucket of milk from Ichiro, please? He knows you're coming.”
“Sure, Kagome,” he said as he happily ran off to complete his task. He returned moments later with his prize and Kagome smiled as she took it from him and poured it into the kettle she had placed over the fire. Miroku and Sango watched her with much curiosity as she stirred the fresh milk. Once it was warmed, she opened up the paper packets and poured the contents of them into the milk, turning it a medium shade of brown. Shippo's eyes widened. “What kind of magic are you using, Kagome?” he asked her.
Kagome chuckled and shook her head at the kitsune. “Not magic, Shippo. Just something from my time. You'll see when it's all done. You'll like it, I promise!”
She continued stirring the now brown milk until it was fairly well steaming. It was then that she opened up the bars and broke the contents of them up into the milk, stirring them in as well. As she stirred, the milk turned an even darker shade of brown, and Kagome's eyes gleamed. Finally, she poured the concoction into six mugs and went back to her bag in search of one more thing. She pulled out a small bag of small, white fluffy looking things and placed several on each drink before handing a cup to each of them in turn. They each looked at the drink and sniffed it carefully. InuYasha studied it most of all, staring at it with wide eyes and flicking ears.
“It's called hot chocolate with marshmallows. It's something we drink in cold weather in my time. It's really good, I promise. Try it,” Kagome prompted.
Slowly, each of them took a small sip. Shippo's eyes grew twice their normal size and he exclaimed, “Kagome, this is amazing!”
Miroku nodded in agreement, “Indeed, this is very good, Kagome.”
Sango simply stated, “This is common in your time? It seems so special...” Kaede agreed.
“It's easier to make in my time. We don't have to milk cows to get milk, we just buy it at the store. And we have this thing called a microwave that heats food up for us much faster than traditional cooking,” she stated.
“Woooooooow, Kagome. Your time must be so fun!” Shippo exclaimed.
Laughing, Kagome said, “Sometimes, yea. But honestly I'd rather be here, with you guys.” She looked around them all to the tree in the corner of the room. “Now, are we all ready to open our gifts?”
Shippo shot up and said, “Me first, me first!” As he ran over and grabbed his package and handed it to Kaede. “Merry Christmas, Lady Kaede.”
Smiling, Kaede untied the twine holding the box together and opened the gift she had been given. Inside the box was a new handmade basket decorated with flowers and ribbon. It had 3 separate compartments. “Oh Shippo, this is so beautiful,” Kaede exclaimed.
Beaming, Shippo said proudly, “I made it! It's for all your herb collecting. So you don't have to mix everything up or carry different baskets.”
“Thank you, child. I will cherish it,” Kaede said as she patted the boy's head. “Now, I believe it's my turn, then?” She said as she stood and made her way over to the tree and retrieved her own gift, handing the package to Shippo with a large smile on her face. “Merry Christmas, dear.” Shippo could hardly contain his excitement as he tore open the box. He peered inside and with careful hands pulled the item out and held it up for everyone to see. Kaede spoke softly, “It's a charmed spinning top. Once you use it, it won't stop spinning until you speak the magic word.”
“Oh Lady Kaede, thank you so much! This is the best thing ever!” Shippo said as he ran and gave her a huge bear hug.
Chuckling, Kaede patted his back and said, “Of course, child. Yer very welcome.”
Miroku stood and silently walked over to the tree and picked up a small box. He turned, sighed deeply, and handed it to Sango. “Merry Christmas, Sango,” he stated, obviously nervous.
Sango looked into the violet eyes of the monk and with shaking hands opened the gift he had presented her. The box contained a piece of forearm armor, matching her current armor, with one small difference. This piece contained a hidden blade with the words 'My Dearest' inscribed on the blade. “Now be careful, Sango. The blade is dipped in a permanent poison that I'm told works on humans and most lower level demons alike. Supposedly it won't ever need replenished,” Miroku said as he stared at the young taijiya.
“Oh, Miroku, it's the most beautiful thing I've ever received. Thank you so much,” she said as her face turned a hefty shade of pure pink. She carefully set her gift down next to her hiraikotsu and walked over to the tree to retrieve her own gift. She stood in front of Miroku and handed him her present, hands trembling.
Miroku looked at her with wide eyes and wordlessly opened the gift. He looked inside the box with wonder as he pulled out a bundle of fabric and let it fall open. It was a small, formal kimono. One obviously meant for a child. Shyly, Sango spoke, “It's for your first child. For, you know, after we defeat Naraku...” Her words trailed off as he looked at her with his eyes positively sparkling.
“Sango, this is the most precious thing you could've given me. Thank you so much.” With those words he wrapped her up in his arms and gave her a tight embrace, making the slayer blush even deeper. She returned his affections, however.
With that, the whole group turned to Kagome. It was time for her gift to InuYasha. Smiling, she stood and walked over to him, taking his hand and leading him into the center of the group. They circled the confused hanyou and each of them held out their hand and touched his arm or shoulder. Kagome stood in front of him and spoke softly, “InuYasha, here, in this family, you are always accepted.” She turned to Shippo.
“You're like a the most annoying big brother in the world, but of course I accept you. I don't know what I'd do without you and Kagome around.” Shippo turned and looked at Miroku.
“InuYasha, you're brash and harsh with your words, but you have the biggest heart of anyone I've ever known, save Kagome. You fight for what's right and protect the innocent. Anyone would be proud to call you Ani*. As proud as I am.” He turned to a smiling Sango.
“You're brave, cunning, quick witted and god awful stubborn. Your heart is always in the right place, even if your words don't express it well. I'm proud to fight beside you and call you Kazoku*.” She turned to Kaede.
“InuYasha, I thought for a very long time that ye were the reason my older sister was slain. Since learning the truth and gettin' ta know ya, I've learned that yer much more than meets the eye. Yer smart, fiercely protective, and ye have one of the biggest hearts of any man this old woman has ever known. Ye are like the Mago* I never had.”
Finally, it was Kagome's turn to speak. “InuYasha, we all love you. Here in this family you will always have a place. You will always be accepted, no matter what happens. Always know that, ok?”
InuYasha stood speechless and looked at each one of them in turn. No one had ever displayed this much affection for him in his entire life. He was overwhelmed and didn't know what to do with himself. “K-Kagome...” he said, softly.
She smiled at him and took his hand. “I know,” she said as she led him outside and away from the group to the one place she wanted to take him, the sacred tree. There, he stood trembling in front of her. She gently touched his cheek and smiled at him. “Do you understand now?” She asked him. He simply nodded.
After a few moments to compose himself, InuYasha reached into his haori and pulled out a very small, modern looking, beautiful, glittery forest green box and handed it to her. “It's not much... your mom helped me with it...”
Kagome looked up at him in shock. “That's where you've been? At my house?” He nodded once. “Oh, InuYasha...” she said, as she held the box tenderly. She pulled off the lid to the box and peered inside. It held a silver heart shaped locket on a long silver chain to match. She pulled the necklace from the box and opened it up. On one side was a tiny picture of InuYasha, looking as grumpy as ever and on the other was an engraving. It read, 'You have my heart in full'. Kagome's eyes brimmed with tears as she read the inscription. “InuYasha...”
“Ah, damnit wench, ya weren't s'posed to cry!” He said as he took her shoudlers in his clawed hands.
She looked up into his amber eyes and gave him the brightest smile he'd ever seen from her. “No, InuYasha, I'm crying because I'm so happy.”
“Oh...” he said as he looked down, embarrassed.
“You know, there is another Christmas tradition I wanted to show you...” Kagome said, quietly.
InuYasha looked back into her chocolate brown eyes. “Oh yea?”
“Look up, InuYasha.” His head swiveled back and looked above his head. There, hanging on a red ribbon from one of the lowest branches on the tree, was a plant he didn't recognize. It was green with tiny white and red berries.
“It's called mistletoe. When two people are under it at the same time they're supposed to kiss.” Kagome said, voice shaky, but sounding confident.
InuYasha looked back down into her entrancing eyes. He hesitated only for a moment before taking her face into both of his clawed hands and bent down to capture her soft, pink lips with his own. She gasped at the intensity of the kiss. Every word unspoken, every feeling not known, poured into her very soul. In that moment, she was sure he loved her. She was sure she was his first choice. She was sure she wanted to be with him, forever. Her nerves tingled as the kiss came to an end and she shook in his arms as he barely pulled away.
“Merry Christmas, Kagome.”
She smiled against his lips. “Merry Christmas, InuYasha.”

The bright sun illuminated the colors of tents and stalls, the smells of cooked meat and fried dough wafting in the air. The laughter and calls of the Parisian people were backed by chords of music from anyone with an instrument. Merchants shouted their wares to passerby, and entertainers donned costumes of every shape and size. Paris's Festival of Fools was in full swing.
Wrinkling his nose, Kouga tried to blink the sweat from his eyes. Right now, the only perk of being Captain of the Guard was not having to stand on his feet playing crowd control. No, instead he got to sit on the back of his horse playing bodyguard to a corrupt Minister. That the men were giving him sympathetic looks when they had the more grueling work only made things worse.
But he tried not to let it distract him. He may dislike the bastard he'd been assigned to, but no one would ever say he wasn't dedicated to the job. 20 years of fighting in crusades and wars proved that well enough.
There had been peasant shows throughout the day on the makeshift stage, and an announcement of a performance by one of Paris's best dancers at the day’s end. Considering the crowd and what he’d seen so far, he wasn't exactly optimistic.
A flash of pink and bright green gleamed in the corner of his eye, and he automatically turned his head to follow the distracting colors. When he got a good look at who was wearing them, his eyes almost bugged out of his head.
Long black hair curled and framed a heart shaped face, bright cinnamon eyes standing out against olive-toned skin. The green fabric clung enticingly over her slim frame, its pink accents drawing the eye to every voluptuous curve.
It was the street dancer from yesterday.
His hands tightened on the reigns, body pulled like a magnet towards the woman hiding among the crowd. But his horse had other ideas, shaking his head against the tugging direction of his master.
Kouga blinked, coming back to himself. What the hell was that? He'd never reacted to a woman that way. It didn't matter how beautiful and enchanting she was. He was on duty.
But it didn't stop him from following her every move with his eyes.
A line of entertainers moved in front of her, blocking his vision. He scowled automatically, but an errant cough pulled him to attention.
Naraku was staring right at him. And if looks could kill, he'd already be dead.
Clearing his throat, he bowed his head to his superior. The Minister's glacial expression shifted from him, and Kouga risked a glance back to where he'd seen her.
Damn. She was gone.
Shaking his head, he forced himself to concentrate. While he didn't expect any kind of attack at a peasant festival, it didn't mean he could let himself be distracted.
Now if only he could get the image of her out of his head.
~
It was getting late in the day, and the festival was finally coming to an end.
He was unendingly glad--much more of this, and he’d have probably gone insane. Not the festival itself, as for all his non participation it had actually looked like fun. No, he was tired of sitting on his horse in the damnable, unforgiving sun.
And he hadn’t seen his street dancer again since, dammit.
He kept his disappointment internal. It was probably for the best. Whatever it was about her, there was no doubt she’d been a distraction. The Minister hadn’t looked at him since first noticing his straying attention, so who knew what that bastard thought of the situation.
The cleared stage brought with it a chorus of relieved sighs. The soldiers were feeling it too. There was just the single dance left, being held in the Minister’s honor. It’s completion would signal the end of the festival. After that, they could all go home.
He could already picture it. First thing he was doing when they got back to the Palace was taking a long, hot bath. Clean up, wipe off all the sweat. Body odor encased in metal did not make a good combination.
Who Kouga assumed to be showrunner took the stage, hands sweeping in dramatic gestures. A new kind of music started up, something subtle enough to warm a man’s blood. Drums pounded, great gongs of sound. His heart jumped in his throat, restricting his air. Something crashed, the firing of a cannons in the distance--
Son of a bitch!
There was a flash of brilliant light, and in a colorful burst of smoke the showrunner vanished and his dancer appeared.
Just like that, the rest of the world fell away.
The hallucination that had begun to form drifted from his mind the longer he watched her. Battle cries and explosions faded from his ears, his heart slowing to a normal rhythm.
Sheer pink ribbon flickered through the air, forming circles around her as she spun. Her dance was liquid motion, drawing the eye with every dip and twirl. She was a vision, perfection personified. He couldn’t turn away from her even if he tried.
Kouga exhaled and sucked in a shuddering breath. That had never happened to him before.
Not the sudden onslaught of nightmares coming to life around him. No, that had happened to him over the years often enough. It was the shock of being drawn back to reality. Of not waking screaming from night terrors and scaring the shit out of the other soldiers. Of not being forcefully restrained when the illusions didn’t let him see friend from foe. Of not coming to at the end of a battle, surrounded by bodies from both sides and covered in blood.
She had no idea what she’d just done for him. What she’d saved not just him, but the innocent bystanders around him from. How the hell had she done it? What about her had pulled him back?
He needed to talk to her, but he couldn’t look for her after the festival. He’d have to wait until tonight or tomorrow. He wanted her name, if she’d be willing to tell it to him. He wanted to know everything he could about her. Maybe work up the courage to ask her to have dinner.
The exclamations going up around him when she bowed to the Minister told him it was the end of her performance. Cheers, applause, whistles, everything the crowd could manage. Gold pieces flew through the air to the stage, landing at her bare feet. His horse shook its head, nervous at the small objects flying so close to his ears. Kouga patted his neck, whispering reassurances in his ear.
When he looked up, workers had taken her place on stage to collect the thrown coins. She had disappeared.
Naraku glanced significantly towards his Captain, forcing Kouga to straighten in his saddle and clear his expression. The last thing he needed was the Minister to start looking at him in any kind of suspicious manner. The threat of what he’d done to the last Captain of the Guard was enough to have him sleeping with one eye open.
Shouted orders pushed the soldiers into action, driving them toward the Minister and his carriage. As the peasants started clearing the area, Kouga spotted the assumed showrunner speaking to someone off to the side. Before he had the chance to change his mind, Kouga motioned one of the guards to direct him over.
The black haired male looked mildly surprised at the approaching guard, but answered the unusual summons. Kouga took the chance to clear his throat, fighting back a sudden bout of nerves.
“How can I help you, Captain?” The other male didn’t seem disturbed at having been called over. If anything, he looked deceptively passive. But now wasn’t the time for Kouga to worry about that. He only had a few minutes at most to spare.
“The dancer,” he started slowly, glancing back towards the stage. “Does she... “ Dammit, how the hell was he supposed to ask these questions of a complete stranger?
The showrunner only barely suppressed a frown. “She does not give private dances if that is your inquiry, sir. She is not a whore.”
“I would never imply such a thing about her character!” Kouga snarled, hands tightening on the reigns. “I only wondered if she spent time somewhere nearby. I… I wanted to introduce myself.”
Surprised, his eyes lost their hard edge. “Might I ask why, Captain? Beautiful as she may be, men of your… caliber,” he seemed to choose his words carefully, “hardly give attention to our people unless they want something.” Dark blue eyes slid to the Minister, but quickly returned.
Kouga followed his gaze, but chose not to comment. “I mean her no harm. As I said, I only wish to introduce myself to her. To talk, if she’s willing too.”
The showrunner looked thoughtful. After a long moment, he spoke. “I will inform her of your desire for an introduction. If she is willing, then in three days time you’ll find her selling wares at the alley next to the bakers. If not,” and here his dark eyes went hard, “then I suggest you give up. We are very protective of our friends, you see. Especially one such as her.”
Taking the warning for what it was, Kouga bowed his head in acknowledgment. “You have my thanks. Forgive my abrupt departure, but I have duties to attend. Excuse me.”
Miroku watched the Captain trot over to the Parisian Minister, dark eyes following him until the entourage left the courtyard. He and the others had heard of a Captain being called back from the wars in order to serve at the Palace of Justice. If he had been anything like that one, Miroku would have denied all knowledge of knowing the girl. But this one seemed genuine enough.
Off to the side, a heart shaped face also watched the retreating soldiers. She’d been hard pressed to hear the men’s conversation over the crowd, but what she caught intrigued her. There was no way for her not to notice the Captain’s reaction to her as she’d danced, but to request a meeting? It wasn’t unheard of, but still unusual.
Knowing Miroku, he’d have given the man some excuse to give her time to escape the city. It wouldn’t be the first time someone of rank had taken an interest in one of their people. Those few days of notice gave them time to gather their belongings and vanish into the night. If she was smart, she would do the same.
Still though… she couldn’t forget the look in his eye when he’d seen her on stage. He’d looked… captivated. Like he’d never seen someone like her before. Like… like she’d given him hope when he’d long forgotten it.
No one had ever looked at her that way before.
Decided, Kagome returned to her tent to dress back into her street clothes. The Palace of Justice was easy enough to find, crawling with soldiers or otherwise.
It would be dangerous, and she’d get in trouble in more ways than one if she got caught. But she wanted to meet him. She wanted to understand.
To see if maybe… she could recreate that look in his eyes.

The Maid and The Bodyguard — Chapter twelve
If you’re lucky, next chapter should be posted tonight on ff.net (I need to finish writing the last scene and then it’ll still need some editing)
First — Previous — Next — Also available on fanfiction.net
Summary: Inuyasha is princess Kikyo’s bodyguard, but one day, he fails to his duty and the princess is abducted. Kagome is a maidservant who works in the castle, and who has had an interest in Inuyasha for a long time. They are sent together to retrieve the Princess. On their way there, things may become a lot more complicated than they had anticipated. AU, Inukag.
Inuyasha woke up with a start the second he started turning back, instantly alert. He knew from experience that his senses had probably been sharpening for a while now, but apparently, that hadn’t been enough to get him out of his slumber. He sat up slowly, careful not to wake Kagome just yet, and took a moment to look at her. He hadn’t been able to do this in a while — or, well, he hadn’t let himself do it in a while — and it killed him how much he’d missed it, how much he relished being able to do it right now.
He gave himself a few seconds, probably longer than needed to assess the situation, longer than he should have spent, before finally reaching out for her shoulder, shaking her awake.
“Kagome.”
It took a few calls of her name before she opened her eyes, slowly, confused both by the deep but surprisingly gentle voice and the heat of the hand on her shoulder that seemed to spread through her entire body.
“Inuyasha?” she replied, voice thick with sleep, blinking several times to make his image less blurry. The silver hair and the ears were back, she noticed, part of her slightly bitter at the thought that whatever they had during the night was now gone. Again. Because maybe she was pathetic for that, and she certainly hated the feelings that surged within her, but she would take it. She’d give up on whatever else was there, inside her, if they could have even  something as simple as this.
Just… Just something. Something for her to cling on to.
He mumbled something that vaguely sounded like “Sorry” but it was too low for her to catch it clearly and she decided not to believe it. Better that than to be disappointed when he would no doubt turn on her, again. “We gotta go,” he continued. “Would be better to spend as little time as possible in demon territories. ’s a pretty dangerous place.”
She nodded, still silent, waiting for him to leave, to let go of her.
He didn’t.
She frowned, staring in his golden eyes, and vaguely thought about how much she liked the color, as pretty as last night’s purple was. “I need to get changed, Inuyasha.”
Only then did he seem to realize what he was doing, and he pulled his hand away from her like he had just burnt himself. “Keh. Yeah. Wear something practical, ‘kay? We’re leaving the horse here. Wouldn’t survive a day out there.” And I’d rather be protecting you than waste any time protecting it.
She frowned. “Oh. We’re going to be really slow then.”
“We’ll figure out something,” he simply answered with a shrug. “I guess I’ll carry ya.”
Her eyes widened, and Inuyasha found himself recoiling at her reaction. Not too long ago, he’d have told her that she had no fucking choice and that they’d do it because they weren’t going to waste any time just because humans were stupidly slow. Now though? Now he would never force her to do anything, but the thought that she would refuse, or worse, that she’d be disgusted or outraged at his proposition was fucking terrifying.
And this was why he didn’t get close to humans. He couldn’t live with that fear all the time, not when they tended to be so disappointing. He had Kikyo, and that was enough.
Well. It had been enough for the longest time anyway, and he should be working to make sure it would remain like that.
He really should be.
“Oh, erm, s-sure.”
Why was she stuttering? Why was she looking away from him? And why, why the fuck was she blushing? For a moment, he simply couldn’t tear his eyes away from her as he tried to comprehend what was going on there. He felt the urge, the need to touch her, to feel her. He started to reach out, then snapped his hand back, clearing his throat.
“Just don’t take too much time.”
She winced at his harsh tone, and he could have slapped himself. Fuck, he… He didn’t know how to handle that. He didn’t want to hurt her, didn’t want to make her feel like he wanted her far away from him. He knew he couldn’t ask for more, but just for now, couldn’t he at least have that? Just have her around. Be able to talk to her, without screwing it all up every five seconds. It’s not like he was asking for much.
“I’ll go talk to the innkeeper,” he growled. “Get him to take care of the horse.”
She finally stood up, taking a step towards him, her hand hovering above his arm before she resulted not to touch him, folding her arms instead, and the sight was so frustrating he had to hold back another growl.
“Are you sure?” she asked, looking at him questioningly, clearly worried. “They seem… Pretty on edge here. I don’t want them to cause trouble.”
“I’ll be fine. They sure don’t like demons, but at least they know demons. They won’t try anything. Just come down quick.”
She nodded, and he examined her just a second longer. He didn’t want her to worry. “I’ll be fine,” he repeated one last time before storming out.
Kagome closed her eyes after his departure, letting her head hang low for a few moments. There was clearly less tension between them now, but in a way it only made it harder. It only made it hurt more.
When she got out of the room, having left behind the more elegant kimonos she’d been given and having settled for the most simple one she could fine, which still felt very different to the ones she was used to wearing, the innkeeper bowed deeply, promised her that he would take great care of everything she left behind, and informed her that her “companion” was waiting for her outside.
It had to be the first time that Inuyasha wasn’t simply treated as some sort of slave following her around, making her think back to his words. Shouldn’t these people be even more terrified from him than anyone else? Was it truly a question of knowledge?
“Keh, about time,” he grunted when she came out of the inn. “Let’s start walking.” He lowered his voice before adding “I’ll take you on my back when we’re far enough.”
Kagome sighed. “So the Princess won’t be seen in contact with her bodyguard. Got it.”
“Somethin’ like that.”
HIs voice was gruff, and she couldn’t help but glancing at him. She knew her remark had lacked strength, though she would have liked to get on his nerves just a bit, but he was all the same. Their relationship was changing in ways she couldn’t quite grasp just yet, and she wasn’t too sure how she felt about it.
“You don’t… You don’t think there’s anything shameful about me being with you, do you?”
He glanced at her, seeming rather annoyed. “What sort of question is that?”
“Not one you can answer with that answer.”
He remained silent for a while, staring straight ahead of him as they kept walking, him being surprisingly slow, mindful of her capacities.
“I don’t know,” he finally said. “I mean, I guess not, but that don’t mean it’d be good for Kikyo or for anyone to be seen with me doing, y’know, something that could be interpreted weirdly.”
Hesitating, she glanced back and, since there was no one outside, she decided to take the risk and slip her hand in his. His eyes widened in surprise and he turned to look at her, mouth moving without any sound coming out. She squeezed his hand gently.
“There is nothing shameful about being with you, Inuyasha. I promise. The problem doesn’t come from you.”
He swallowed, and didn’t reply, simply hesitantly closing his fingers around her small and fragile hand. If she meant that, then what did her reaction after his kiss mean? If it wasn’t him being a half-demon, it had to be… It had to be him.
Somehow, he still liked the thought that it was his nature better.
“’kay, I think we’re good now.”
He knelt down in front of her, presenting her his back. “C’mon, get on.” When she didn’t comply immediately, he rolled his eyes. “What’re ya waiting for, woman? We don’t have all day!”
With some hesitance, she finally did, clinging to his shoulders as he stood back up, trying not to think about how her legs were partially revealed. She was glad what she was wearing right now didn’t need to be pulled up too much, but still, she didn’t feel too comfortable with it. And then there were his hands gripping her thighs tightly, even through the fabric…
Inuyasha cleared his throat. “Hang on tight, ‘kay? Gonna start running.”
God, he couldn’t just get all considerate with her like this. She nodded and buried her head in the red fabric of his haori, wrapping her arms around him. For one second, he seemed to tense, and she wondered why, but he quickly took off, and she shrugged it off, trying to use him to shield herself from the wind, and definitely trying not to read too much into it.
Dammit. Couldn’t he make it easy on her, just this once?
Inuyasha kept running like that for several hours before declaring it was time for them — well, mostly for her — to eat, at which point he set her down, instructing her to scream if anything happened, and took off again, leaving her alone and confused. Usually, she would have immediately made some fire, but she didn’t know if that would be careful, considering where they were. Wouldn’t that just attract more attention to them? Not wanting to take the risk, she set herself on waiting for him, simply sitting down against a tree.
She closed her eyes, letting herself feel the environment. She had always been rather sensitive to places where she was, but she had rarely been in such a peaceful setting. No humans, anywhere. Demons, probably, however from what she knew they didn’t exactly have villages or that sort of things, so the place was strangely lacking the usual agitation, the sort of constant buzz that humans make wherever they go. And yet…
It wasn’t a buzz, what she felt. More… More like wind. Not the actual breeze she was feeling, no, something that almost made her shiver.
Power, she understood. Demonic energy, concentrated enough for her to actually feel it. It wasn’t agressive in any way though. On the contrary, it was almost peaceful, accepting. It was terrifying in a way, knowing that it could suddenly turn on her and Inuyasha at any given time. But for now… For now she let herself relax, while waiting for him to come back.
Not one second did she worry about it. Inuyasha had told her he’d be there if anything happened, so why would she?
.
Inuyasha’s heart was beating loudly in his ears as he hunted. He hadn’t planned that. Hadn’t planned that feeling her against him, holding him, trusting him, would feel like that. He would have done anything to calm himself down, because he felt like he was going to catch fire right this second otherwise, and that was exactly what he ended up doing.
That is, he jumped into a river he’d smelled not too far away, actually picking that spot exactly for that reason.
After letting himself cool down for a few moments, he jumped out, shook himself to get rid of some water, quickly caught some fishes, then went back to her, only to be met by her curious eyes.
“Why are you wet?”
He rolled his eyes and ignored her. “Why isn’t the fire ready?”
“I— I wasn’t sure the demons…”
“The ones we need to worry about already know we’re here,” he replied with a joyless grin.
Kagome frowned, apparently not too happy with that information, which he could understand. “Oh.”
“So, are ya gonna get started on that fire?”
She glared at him. “You’d better calm down, or I swear I’ll…”
“Yeah?”
He couldn’t help himself as he teased her. Bad, Inuyasha. Bad idea. But she just looked so pretty, so something that he couldn’t quite place when she was getting angry at him. It was the way her eyes shone, the red color on her cheeks, the way she pushed her hair behind her ears — how had he not noticed that she did that earlier? Because that was fucking adorable.
“I swear you’ll be sorry,” she finally replied, and he just couldn’t stop grinning like an idiot when he heard her, even as she started collecting wood.
He had to fight the urge to step closer to her with every inch of himself. He didn’t know what was up with him right now. Maybe it was the ride he’d given her, but being away from her almost physically hurt. He had wanted to touch her before, but it had never been quite so intense. He had simply never felt something like that before and he was— He was just fucking confused. He had definitely craved contact before, so he at least recognized that part of this very new feeling, but the rest was new and weird and he wasn’t sure what to do with it.
He swallowed, averting his eyes from her as she knelt down with the wood, preparing the hearth.
“Nothin’ happened?”
Why was he even fucking talking?
“No problem, no,” Kagome replied calmly without even looking up at him, something for which he was actually rather thankful, because he was sure he looked way too agitated at the moment. “But if they know we’re here, they probably knew you weren’t far away.”
He shrugged. There were quite a few things here that were powerful enough to cause problems, even for him. In fact, he’d bet that if anything, they were more worried about the spiritual powers they could feel coming from her. He didn’t pick up on anything when he was near, but if there was anything full demons would be better at than him, it had to be something like that. Feeling spiritual power — for simple survival reasons.
Not that that shit felt good for him by the way. He’d tested it, and thanks, but no thanks. Still, he knew he could survive it, where nothing would even be left of them if a monk attacked them.
“Keh. Are you getting somewhere with that shit?”
Kagome stood up, wiping her hands against her legs, and shot him a dark look. “It’s done, Inuyasha. Give me the fishes.”
He handed them to her, and he couldn’t believe himself when he made sure her fingers would brush against his as she took them.
The fuck was wrong with him today? Also, why hadn’t he noticed the fire’s smell? And could his heart stop beating so obnoxiously loud? Fucking hell.
“Hurry up,” he mumbled. “We have to get going.”
Kagome rolled her eyes again. “I know. What’s up with you, seriously?”
Yeah. He’d have liked an answer for that too, but he guessed ‘It’s all your fault’ just wouldn’t be good enough. Or maybe it’d be too good, he couldn’t tell. All the same, he was terrified by the possibility that it was right.
He mumbled something that she couldn’t quite get as she started cooking, but she shrugged it off, feeling a bit miserable as she did so. They’d gone back to their friendly behavior, apparently. Which was better than nothing, sure, but if felt so damn unsatisfying.
.
Riding with her for the rest of the day was hell. Inuyasha had never thought torture could take that form. In fact, just a day earlier, he would have laughed in the face of anyone who would have said that he could suffer from touching Kagome — but that was exactly it, wasn’t it? It was the touching. It had to be. It was holding her thighs in his hands, it was feeling her against his back, it was her arms around him and her breathing in his neck, her hair against his skin and her heat diffusing itself in his body.
All of that, and he wasn’t able to do anything about it.
What it was that he wanted to do, he wasn’t sure, to be honest. He could tell she was like a magnet for him, could tell he wanted to touch her, but he still couldn’t quite comprehend the strength of it all.
He wasn’t completely oblivious to the things of love and, well, sex. He heard the soldiers’ coarse laughter about it, he could even recognize its smell, sometimes discovering it on maids, and sometimes on noblemen and noblewomen. He wasn’t too sure how to feel about it. He knew demons didn’t quite have the same prejudice humans had about it. At the same time, he had vaguely understood, even as a very young kid, that the fact that his mother had had sex with a demon was the biggest part of the problem.
The problem being him. The proof that it had happened.
Because it was one thing to love a demon, to associate with one, but having sex with one? Worse, the fact that people could tell when they looked at him? That was the absolute disgrace.
He couldn’t quite tell if what he felt for Kagome, this intense urge to be with her, was about desire. Wasn’t sure what he should do with it if it was. He knew at least what he shouldn’t do though. There was one path he simply couldn’t pick. For his own survival, sure, but mostly because he wouldn’t be able to stand the look in her eyes, the disgust that would no doubt finally start burning in there if he did anything, as she pushed him away.
After a night he had spent jumping awake at the slightest sound, and during which he had had to growl at only a couple minor demons to send them running away, they started travelling again. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t get much better for him. If anything, he would have said it was getting worse, actually.
Which was the main reason why, when they stopped to eat, he said “We’ll stop here for the night.”
Kagome’s eyes widened as she looked up to him. “What? But it’s only—”
“I’m aware,” he growled. “But we’ve been followed by things and this could be a good time to train you with your powers. Might be enough to get them to go away.”
At least he wasn’t downright lying right now. One demon in particular, which he recognized through its smell, had seemed to take an interest in them earlier today and hadn’t let go of them ever since. He was fairly new at demons smells, as he hadn’t seen any since he had met Kikyo basically, so he couldn’t quite pin it down, but there was no doubt whatsoever that it was one. It was weird though, regularly changing, with its core remaining the same. If his nose hadn’t been that sensitive, it might have fooled him actually, making him think there were several different creatures. A shapeshifter, maybe? He had no idea, but he didn’t like it.
Still, it hadn’t shown itself, and he simply couldn’t leave Kagome behind to go hunt for it. He doubted it was really powerful though, otherwise it probably already would have made a move.
“How am I going to train anyway?” Kagome asked, all while feeling that she had been indulging him way too much recently. “I don’t know anything about that… power, or whatever you say it is. We know I’ve activated twice at least— Against that frog thing and…” Her eyes drifted to his neck, and he tensed self-consciously.
The necklace was still hanging there. He had tried hiding it, especially when they stopped in inns, because he knew everyone could tell just what it was, and he hated it, but he had realized that feeling it against his skin was even worse. At least, like this, he could forget about it from time to time.
“I could try to take it off,” she offered softly.
Just like the first time, he shook his head vehemently. “No. You don’t know anything about that stuff, and you don’t need to train for that. Unless you intend to use it on other demons.”
“Of course not!” she protested, shocked by the intense disgust in his voice. “I just want you to—”
“I can live with it, Kagome, okay? I’ll be fine.”
He had said that several times already, and still she just couldn’t bring herself to believe him. It was obvious that he hated having that thing around his neck. She was starting to get used to him refusing to let her do anything for him, but that didn’t mean she had to like it.
He glanced away from her. He knew his anger had nothing to do with her, but he hadn’t expected to react so strongly when she had mentioned the necklace. He knew how much he despised it, but he hadn’t thought that the idea of him or any demon being basically enslaved by humans would make his stomach churn like that. Demons weren’t much better with humans when they got their hands on them, sure, but there was something terribly animalizing about how humans treated others living beings, and it just made him sick.
“Then that leaves us with the same problem,” she said slowly, anger obvious in his voice, and he knew he hadn’t heard the last of it. “How am I supposed to train?”
He rose an eyebrow. “’s pretty obvious, isn’t it? I mean, I could go get you some demon, but I ain’t leaving you alone unless it’s absolutely necessary, so…” He opened his arms, the meaning of his gesture obvious.
Kagome stared at him, completely silent for a few seconds. “Are you kid— No.” He had rarely heard her being that final, but that didn’t mean he was going to back down that easily.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” he snarled. “You need to be able to defend yourself.”
He stood up and started walking towards her, leaving his half-eaten fish behind him, in full display. It was an obvious trap and he doubted it would do anything, but he at least had to try. If the demon went for it, it would be reassuring in terms of power and intelligence, and he may actually be able to catch it and deal with it, which would be one thing less to worry about.
She stood up in response, looking both nervous and worried.
“Inuyasha, I’m not using you for training. If you’re injured, it will be a much bigger problem than me using my energy.”
“I heal quick,” he replied with a mere shrug, taking another step, ignoring her obvious displeasure at him being so careless about getting hurt.
She put her hand up as to push him away, something they both knew to be completely useless since she would never do anything against him — not that he would ever put her in a situation where she actually needed to defend herself against him.
“I don’t want to hurt you, Inuyasha,” she pleaded.
He stopped then, and maybe she had imagined it, but she thought she’d seen his ear flickering to the side. She turned around, wondering what he’d heard, and then next thing she knew, his arms were around her waist, his chest pressed against her back, and his mouth was way too close to her ear for comfort.
Finally acting on all these urges he’d felt for the past two days, finally touching her in a way that was at least slightly more satisfying.
“Wha—”
“What’d you do if something like that happened, K’gome?” he breathed, so close to her, sending the most delightful shiver down her spine.
“I don’t—”
“I get that you don’t want to hurt me, Kagome, I fucking do, I swear,” and his voice was surprisingly warm and fond and it just killed her, “but I need to know that there’s something you’d be able to do if somethin’ like that ever happens, okay?”
She felt him take a breath, his chest heaving against her back, and she wondered how he felt about her smell now, immediately cursing her brain for going in that direction now of all times. She bit her lip to try to keep herself focusing. She tried to let her shoulders react, closing her eyes, reaching deep inside her mind to try to find that energy she’d felt before.
Inuyasha was right, technically, even though he would definitely hear from that again — he could expect his food to mysteriously be burnt for the next few days. She needed to be able to defend herself, and she couldn’t just count on it manifesting whenever there was a danger. But there was a difference between that and a moment when she didn’t feel any danger whatsoever, she realized when she found absolutely nothing, not even the slightest spark.
Just the fire of Inuyasha against her.
“I can’t find it,” she said softly, all too aware once again of him there, against her, so close.
“Well—”
“It’s only ever reacted when I was in danger, Inuyasha. And I… I’m not in danger right now.”
His arms around her loosened just a little, and she regretted the pang of disappointment that ran through her just then.
“What’re ya talking about? We’re in the middle of—”
“But I’m with you,” she replied. “And as long as I’m with you, I don’t feel like I’m in danger.”
His breath caught in his throat, completely shaken by her words. He should have let her go just then, but he found he simply couldn’t, particularly when she managed to turn in his hold, which was much more like an embrace at this point, and her eyes met his. He tried desperately to understand, to find something in there to explain to him all the things he didn’t get, to finally tell him what she fucking meant by that.
The sight was so entrancing that he almost missed the movement on their left, but his reflexes did it for him.
Kagome lost her balance when Inuyasha suddenly disappeared from against her, miraculously regaining it before falling to the ground, a strange cold settling where he had just been touching her. She spun around, ready to yell at him because what on Earth did he think he was doing, and that’s when she found him, holding by the neck a—
“Oh my God, Inuyasha, what are you doing?”
He turned towards her, genuine surprise on his features, not understanding the anger in her words, only to find her storming towards him and snatching the demon from his hands.
“It’s a child,” she protested furiously, holding it carefully against her just like a mother would. “There is no need to be so brutal.”
“Brut— Kagome, it’s a demon. A kitsune. That’s probably not even its real appearance, for f—”
“How old are you?” she asked gently to the small, red-haired demon, ignoring him completely.
“I’m six,” the kid replied with tears in his eyes, and Inuyasha scoffed at that.
“Yeah right, and I’m—”
“You’re a dog-demon, shouldn’t you be able to tell?” the kitsune shot at him.
Inuyasha actually shut up for an instant to lean closer to him and sniff it carefully. Shit. He was telling the truth. He was a kid. He looked up to see Kagome staring at him, clearly waiting for his verdict. He sighed.
“Okay, yeah, he’s probably saying the truth, but—”
“Oh you poor thing! Were you trying to get Inuyasha’s fish? Here, you can have it!”
Inuyasha grimaced. Something was telling him that he hadn’t seen the last of the kitsune.
But it was only when he noticed the kid sticking his tongue out at him while Kagome was looking away, leaning down to pick up the fish — his fish — that he realized in how much trouble he was in. Oh, hell no.
He was not going to let that happen.

we’re alright now
note: okayyyy. i’ve been working on this one for about a week now, and i’ve finally decided to post it. this takes place around the time Inuyasha could not control himself from becoming a demon. basically an unfortunate Kagome kidnapping and Inuyasha having to save her.
okie, i hope ya’ll like! xoxo
“Mhm,” Kagome’s eyebrows were furrowed, a distinct seriousness in her eyes as she nodded firmly. She was on all fours, staring down at the soil beneath her that was unbelievably soft against the pads of her fingers. An older man, probably in his late fifties to early sixties was also on all fours, eyes focused on the ground. He placed a small seed that he’d just explained to her was the shape of a tear drop and why, into the hole he’d made in the soil.
“Now, you’ll simply bury it and wait three days!” He exclaimed excitedly, pushing the excess soil back into the hole. His back popped as he sat back up and though it sounded painful to Kagome’s ears, he hardly seemed to notice. His palms, tanned and calloused rested on his thighs. “Do you understand everything I have taught you?” He looked at Kagome now with kind, green eyes. Around them were wrinkled, giving him an exhausted appearance though he was full of life. His slightly greying hair was thin and short, and he wore dirtied, old clothing.
“Yes, thank you so much.” Kagome was now resting on her knees as well, smiling genuinely at the man. Her palms also rested on her thighs. “I appreciate all that you have taught me.”
“Good, good.” The old man smiled, “What do you say we get some lunch now, young Kagome?” As he began to stand, his weathered body cracked and popped, and he grunted as he straightened out. Kagome couldn’t help but compare him with her own grandfather, feeling a sense of compassion for him. Of course, compassion Kagome easily felt for everyone, but this somehow felt different.
“Alright, I should also check on my friends too.” She placed a gentle hand to his arm and watched as he nodded. They walked together at a slow, comfortable pace. The sun was out, the sky a beautiful blue and the temperature a consoling warmth.  It was a beautiful day and she was beyond glad that they had stopped to rest, to take a break from the hunting of the jewel shard. Inuyasha did not seem at all happy about it, but they of course brushed him off as usual.
The village was like any other as they neared it coming from the fields, small wooden shacks for homes and convenient shops spread throughout. Children laughed and played, men working, women shopping and stray animals occasionally walking through. Once they made it to the village, Kagome finally removed her caring hand from the man’s arm.
“Please, do tell me your name one more time?” Kagome asked, slightly embarrassed that she’d forgot it. But he only smiled at her and laughed wholeheartedly.
“Akihiko.” His laugh was authentic and kind, and Kagome couldn’t help but to love it. She laughed too.
“Akihiko,” Her eyes were bright with happiness. “I’ll return, I need to check on a couple of things if that’s alright.”
“Of course, take your time. I’ll fix us something to eat.”
-
“Miroku!” Sango’s shout could have been heard throughout the entire village and as Kagome rounded the corner she sighed and shook her head. She could only guess what Miroku had done to irritate Sango once again. You would think he’d have learned by now.
“Sango?” Kagome questioned innocently, poking her head through the doorway of their temporary home. She was just in time to watch Sango’s fist come down heavy onto Miroku’s head, knocking him over. She blinked twice before stepping in. “Sorry to interrupt.”
“Oh, trust me,” Sango started angrily, an irritated twitch on her left eyebrow. “You aren’t interrupting a thing, Kagome.”
“Where’s Inuyasha?” Kagome looked around the small room, but sight of the hanyou she cared for beyond belief was not to be found.
“We haven’t seen him in quite some time.” Miroku stated matter of factly, dusting himself off as he stood. Acting as though nothing happened, just as he typically did.
“Oh, well I just wanted to let you guys know I’m spending time with Akihiko, a villager here.” She smiled at the simple thought of him. He was just so kind and accepting of her and her friends. He’d offered to teach Kagome things she’d have never learned in school back home, or even on any of their endeavors in this era. Even after, he still invited her to his home to eat and she was sure of it, to also learn more.
“Alright, we’ll let Inuyasha know if we see him before you do.” Sango nodded.
“Yea,” Shippo chimed in, coming from another room. “We all know how Inuyasha is when he finds out you’re too far away from him.”  He sat with a small ‘plop’ onto the floor next to Sango.
“He’s definitely in love.” Miroku also sat, reclaiming his previous seat before he’d been assaulted by Sango.
Kagome instantly blushed, “U-Uh,” She grinned nervously and threw her hand up as if to say he could stop there. “Okay, I’ll see you guys a little later.” She ducked out the door before anyone could say another word to embarrass her further, but as the heat in her cheeks began to fade, she couldn’t help but wonder if they all truly agreed on that, and if they were right.
-
Inuyasha sat on the outskirts of the village within the forest of trees, the limbs so high and thick with foliage that as the sun began to set, there was an evident darkness blanketing the area within. A calm breeze blew periodically, causing Inuyasha’s long, silver hair to blow carelessly with it. He sat in near silence, only the sound of ruffling leaves and running of the creek water in front of him in his ears. One arm was draped over a lifted knee, the opposite on the grass below and golden irises simply gazed into the water.
He had left when Kagome did to curiously glance at the entirety of the village, only he took it upon himself to leave the village. After a small argument about taking a break and Kagome’s continuous convincing that she would be “just fine” taking a look at the village alone, he’d found himself here.
Hundreds of thoughts raced in his mind though he sat seemingly tranquil. Thoughts of his friends, of Kagome, of the battles they had fought previously nearly overwhelmed him. The sight of his claws dripping with crimson, the scent of death in the air, the formidable desire to kill. Not just to kill but to murder, to cause suffering, to take pleasure in demise. Though he would never voice it quite the way he defined it privately, he was deathly terrified of what he hoped he would not permanently become.
He had spent all of this time looking to consume the jewel selfishly, to become no longer an essence of a demon, but one committedly. Now he was unsure of his yearning. What if he took the jewel for himself, and in the end killed the ones he truly cared for. What if he destroyed Kagome? The mere idea of tearing Kagome limb from limb shot terror throughout his entirety. He growled, disrupting the serene surroundings and shook his head harshly.
“No, I would never.” He said aloud, attempting lamely to convince himself that he could never do such a thing. However, looking back at previous battles, he had forgotten himself. He had left behind his heart, and only saw red. He only saw bodies, creatures and humans alike he only saw as prey. He had, however, kept his distance from his friends, from Kagome. Would there not though, be a time where he would not do that?
A scream pierced the air surrounding him and his eyes widened instantly. It was not just a scream, but Kagome’s. He knew he had stayed just close enough to hear her if something deadly was to come about, but he had doubted an appearance.
“Kagome!”
The spot where he had once sat became instantly empty.
-
Kagome stood frozen in the doorway of Akihiko’s home, eyes large and mouth parted in shock just after she had screamed due to the sight before her. “Akihiko!” She darted forward then, running to aid him as he lay seemingly lifeless on the floor of his kitchen. Blood was splattered in several places, so much staining Akihiko himself that she could not tell yet where he was bleeding out.
Without a care for the blood she touched his face gently, “Akihiko, who did this? Where are you hurt?” She questioned, though without haste as not to startle him. He opened his eyes, a groan escaping his lips. When he spoke, blood carried over his lips and down his chin.
“Kagome, sweet… girl,” He coughed, “Leave. I will die h-here, you must leave.”
Kagome felt tears welling in her eyes at the sight of this man, this man she had just begun to feel a connection to, this man who reminded her so easily of her grandfather, lying nearly lifeless in his own blood. If only she had been here, if only she had not went to check in with her friends before returning. Perhaps if she’d been a little quicker in doing so at the very least, maybe he would not be in this position.
“Akihiko, please, please let me try to help you,” She pleaded, lowering her hands slowly down his torso until he winced. There was a gaping hole in his stomach, and with him being human that could only mean one thing. He would bleed out, and there was nothing she could do to stop it. She blinked hard, a furiosity lighting within her, tears finally flowing.
“Who did this!” She shouted as she stood and turned, only to find a deathly darkness.
-
“Kagome!” Inuyasha shouted, feet planting hard on the ground as he fell from the sky, his arms immediately thrusting through the door of the small hut. His eyes narrowed at the sight of blood thrown everywhere, however the scent was not Kagome’s. It belonged to the elder man that lay on the floor. “Kagome!” He shouted again in question, knowing this could not be good.
He stepped in, uncaring of the crimson staining his feet and glanced around the hut. Kagome’s scent was evident, but she was no longer there. Damn it. I should have never left her alone.
Inuyasha turned away from the scene with a furious growl, fangs protruding, choosing to follow Kagome’s scent to the best of his abilities as he jumped from the front door to the nearest tree.
-
A sound of pain emitted from Kagome’s lips as she rolled on her back, the surface beneath her cold and agonizingly hard. There was a putrid smell in the air, but as she opened her eyes she was greeted with such darkness she nearly thought herself blind. “I-Inuyasha…” She whispered, as if calling for him. He always came for her, always made sure she was safe. He would this time, too. She just knew it. “Hello?” She questioned, though she did not shout it. She could sense the presence of a jewel shard nearby, but not nearly in the same location as her. Good.
She stood slowly, hands reaching out to touch anything that may be beside her. As she did however, she heard the rattling of a chain and her leg became heavier. She had been locked to something. Kagome lowered herself to hands and knees and with one hand she grasped the chain. She began to slowly, cautiously, crawl the length of the room whilst following the chain. She had to get out, get as far as she could. She had only gained a few feet when her hand touched something soft, silky. Like hair.
“Huh?” Kagome felt slowly what was in front of her, and realized it was hair. Her eyes were straining to see, but she was granted no such wish. Palm rising, her fingertips grazed an ear. A dog ear. “Inuyasha?” Her voice hasty now. Was Inuyasha locked in here too; was he hurt? “Inuyasha…” She lowered her hand to feel his nose, his lips, his chin, but once she reached for his chest there was nothing. Nothing but a pool of warmth.
By instinct she jerked her hand away, raising it to cover her mouth and she felt the warm liquid smear across her face. A terrified gasp had left her, piercing the air around her. She was unsure now that she even wanted the darkness to unravel, but she needed it to.
Just as the thought crossed her mind, a light shone far away. It was small, but not dim in the least. Kagome could do nothing but stare at the brightness, too terrified to look down and see the blanket of darkness rise from who she was frantically praying was not Inuyasha. There’s just no way-Inuyasha could not die.
Suddenly the light became larger, beginning to fill the entire space. She realized then it was the glow of the jewel shard. It revealed a room made with cement blocks, cement floors and a large cement table littered with tools she had no intention of knowing about. There were jars of all different sizes with a murky green liquid within them as well as claws, fangs, even eyes.
“U-Uh…” She sat back on her knees in shock, hand still covering her mouth. Without warning, her eyes lowered. An overwhelming feeling of relief washed through her as she saw it was not Inuyasha, but the head of a hanyou she’d never seen. Quickly she spread her hand on her skirt, attempting to wipe the blood from her hand, and with her sleeve she attempted her face. It only served to leave a stain.
The light became brighter despite her distaste of it. Her mind could only think of one thing, and that was her hanyou coming to save her. She had never seen anything of this nature, even as long as she had been in the Feudal Era. It was terribly unlike anything she had grown accustomed too, and though she did not present it outwardly, she had become terrified.
“Inuyasha…” She whispered, so quietly that it seemed any person even next to her could not have heard her.
“Ahhh,” A voice, hoarse though joyful began to speak, and with it’s presence, Kagome gasped. “You wish for your horrid half breed to save you, huh?” A chuckle that soon became an inhumane laughter erupted. “He won’t come! I’ve gotten you, and I’ll have every last inch of your body collected for years to come, simply for my pleasure…” Nearing the end, a growl accompanied the words.
Kagome jerked backward, her hands falling to the cold cement just behind her. Quickly she stood, nearly tripping as she began to run. She had no weapon, no one to save her, only her instincts. As she ran from the bright light behind her, she could only think of how she may not make it this time, instantly regretting her thoughts as Inuyasha always managed to save her, even if it were at the last second. Her eyes narrowed then, He will save me.
Just as the thought came to her, she was jerked harshly backward, the chain pulling her from behind. A scream escaped her, though it only echoed. Wherever she was now, she could sense that no one could hear her from the outside. She could only pray Inuyasha would smell her scent, and come for her.
-
“Kagome,” Inuyasha breathed raspily, running as quickly as he could through the trees, tracing only her scent as it was all he had. “I’ll save you, just hold on.” A scowl discovered his features, a darkening growl slipping past bared fangs. His pace quickened, his fire rat uncaring of the sharp briars that nipped at it’s cloth.
He had left behind Miroku and Sango both, also Kirara and Shippo, not even mentioning in the slightest that Kagome was endangered. He didn’t need them, though, he thought with a sharp grimace. He could do this all on his own, just as he’d done countless times before. Kagome was his to protect, and nothing could stop him.
-
“Inuyasha!” Kagome screamed breathlessly, knowing it was effortless though it was involuntary. She felt a slimy, cold hand grasp her ankle and claws dug into her skin, bringing forth blood.
“I’ll have a taste of every bit of you now…” The demon nearly slurred as he gradually, sickeningly, pulled her towards him. Its tongue was sharp, pointed as if it were a weapon, licking its full lips expectantly. The demon could smell Kagome’s scent so deliciously it were as though it could taste her. “You smell delectable.” It hissed.
Suddenly the bright light Kagome had been pulled towards deceased, and the darkness again surrounded her so callously that she could not even see her hands before her. Her nails had been dragging the cement, breaking, fingertips beginning to draw blood. An instantaneous feeling of slime began gradually creeping up her right leg, wrapping around her skin, chills sliding up her spine. The jewel shard is being defiled… oh no..
“Inu..yasha,” Kagome prayed for him to save her still, knowing that he had never failed before. He had always came to realize she was gone or either in danger, and rescued her just before anything harmful could have happened. Her forehead was pressed so harshly against the cement she could feel it scraping, her nails still digging into the coldness only to break.
“Don’t call for him, you hopeless wench…” The demon whispered, “I’ll have you, I’ll have your beautiful, large eyes, your delicious lips, your skin..” The pleasure of speaking these words only seemed to heighten the excitement in the demon’s tone.
The slender, feeling as though it were a tentacle, continued to rise, reaching her thigh and just underneath her skirt. Another touched her face now, dripping with some type of thick substance, slowly tracing her lips and the line of her jaw. Kagome could feel the sting of tears in her eyes, teeth gritted so harshly they began to ache.
“You’re such a treat,” The demon licked his lips, and Kagome could hear the slurp of an unnecessarily wet tongue on ridiculously large lips and she nearly became sick. She lifted a hand to cover her mouth, the overwhelming urge to become sick nearly overcoming her. A click emitted and she felt the chain being released, the demon feeling confident that it held her permanently within his grasp.
“Kagome!” Inuyasha’s shout was so solitarily, so deafening, so monstrous that Kagome jumped at the sound of it. Thereafter though, she quickly became relieved, knowing her hanyou was there to save her.
“Who's there!” The demon shouted instantly, rising to face Inuyasha in the shadowiness. Kagome lifted her head to see, but even her large, chocolate eyes could not see her beloved hanyou. She could not see anything at all, she could only feel the tentacle like limbs had left her finally, and there was a certain indescribable relief that accompanied that.
“I’ll kill you, you half breed!” The demon exclaimed, tentacles reaching outwardly at a haste, attempting to grasp Inuyasha.  Kagome still could not view a thing, though she could hear the drips of  a thick substance falling against the cement before her, and she knew the demon was after her hanyou. Her legs burned now, the fluid that had birthed from the tentacles now seemingly scarring the skin of her face and leg.
“Yeah, I’d like to see you try that!” Inuyasha unleashed his Tessaiga then, a sudden brilliant light entertaining the room. At that moment, Kagome could see everything, her eyes wide as she watched from the ground Inuyasha’s Tessaiga brighten, ready to unleash its power. “Wind scar!” His shout shook the room, an indescribable dazzling glow illuminating everything around her.
Quickly Kagome stood, while she could still see, and ran underneath the demon towards her hanyou. She bared no time to look up, she only knew from her peripheral vision that the thing had many tentacles adorning it, swishing around in the air as if the demon itself had no control over them. Once she made it behind where Inuyasha would eventually land, she turned quickly to find the jewel shard for him. It glowed a vibrant black in the demon’s pale neck, and she stood shocked at the appearance of the demon itself. He had large, bulging eyes that held no color, only thin, black pupils. It’s skin was a sickening paper white, and lips exaggeratingly large and a putrid green color. Along with the tentacles, he had a pair of unnaturally long arms, and his body was extremely thin. He wore simple, black clothing.
Kagome was forced out of her disturbance once the wind scar seemingly engulfed the demon, but somehow she felt as though it would not be enough. She had a horrible feeling in her gut, and her hand squeezed her shirt against her stomach. With her other, she wiped the drying liquid from her face, having to scrape it in places with her sore nails. The burn began to waver, but she could feel the blood she’d left behind from her injured fingers.
“Inuyasha!” She shouted over the raging wind that the wind scar had effortlessly created, “The jewel shard is in his neck, right in the middle!”
“Alright,” Inuyasha glanced over his shoulder and with a very serious expression on his face, anger lit in his eyes, he demanded Kagome to stay back. “Stay back, Kagome! I’m going to teach this ugly thing a lesson for messin’ with what’s mine!”
Just as Inuyasha looked forward, he was knocked harshly across the room and into the cement wall, and Tessaiga fell from his grip. He had been hit with such force that the cement crumbled once he hit it, and an indent was created. The demon took this time to light a small torch attached to the side of the seemingly endless room, so that he himself could see his opponent.
“Inuyasha!” Kagome exclaimed, eyes wide as she watched him be thrown into the wall, and heard both the cement and Inuyasha’s body crack with the impact. She had yet to notice that Tessaiga had fell in her fear for Inuyasha, but once she did she would realize that could only mean one thing if Tessaiga was not returned to him quickly.
“I pity you, you disgusting excuse for a living creature!” The demon hissed, and although seemingly angry, suddenly burst into a fit of inhumane laughter. “She’ll be mine just as soon as you are dead!” A tentacle shot from his body and slung Tessaiga across the room with one simple hit. “Fight me without a sword, let us see just how pitiful you are.”
Inuyasha slowly rose from the wall with teeth bared, the expression on his face could only show that he was completely infuriated. “What the fuck did you say to me?” His growl was deep and extremely evident then.
From across the room, Kagome stood frozen. Oh no, Tessaiga… and I can’t see so far as to get it, and Inuyasha will… he will.. She could only gasp, her thoughts involuntarily disrupted as she watched Inuyasha’s eyes suddenly become a crimson red, purple markings adorning the sides of his face, and his face itself had seemingly transformed into something more horrid, his fangs larger and his scowl more terrifying than it had ever been.
“Inuyasha…” Kagome nearly whimpered, a sadness overtaking her. She hated to see him this way, despised seeing such a demonic power overcome him. The hand that had once gripped the cloth in front of her stomach now pressed hard against her chest.
“Oh, how delightful,” The demon grinned so largely that it was not proportionate, showing off a complete array of snow white teeth. “The doggy has come out to play!” A tentacle shot from his body once more, aiming straight for Inuyasha.
Inuyasha pressed his feet firmly against the cement and shoved himself off of it, “I’ll fucking kill you.” He snarled, his voice even having changed to something much deeper and much more demonic. As he flew through the air, he swiped effortlessly at each tentacle that attempted to grasp him, his elongated claws slicing through them with ease. Each one released a spew of blood and an almost seemingly glowing green liquid that splattered onto Inuyasha’s face and body. He did not care.
Kagome watched, feet planted to the ground, her body unable to move and eyes unable to look away from Inuyasha. She did not fear him, she never had when he was in this state. She only felt a particular sadness, wishing for Inuyasha to return to himself. Becoming this demon meant nearly becoming heartless, and he would kill for the fun rather than justice. Already her heart ached for him, her fingertips pressing further against her chest. She missed her hanyou.
“You think you can kill me, do you?” The demon played, another tentacle growing to replace one he had cut down. “Take this!” All at once every tentacle that belonged to him seemingly became sharper, and shot together towards Inuyasha.
“Fuckin’ stupid mistake.” Inuyasha hissed, not an ounce of fear in his body, and he did not budge from his place in the air. Only raised one claw, readying to cut down each one.
“Inuyasha!” Kagome shouted, almost sounding as though she were pleading with him. Please move… She begged privately, but she knew her efforts would remain useless.
A shower of blood and green fluid erupted in the air, accompanied by the harsh sound of flesh being torn apart. Kagome winced and stumbled backward, droplets finding her clothing but thankfully her face was given a rest.
“Huh!” The demon’s eyes widened, nearly bulging from his head, again seemingly unproportional with his structure, his body taken aback by the actions played out before him. Every tentacle had disappeared, and with his consternation he had not yet created anymore. He had ran out of time.
“Die!” Inuyasha appeared before him, a thirst for carnage having overcame his expression. With a single swipe he tore the skin from the demon’s face, and behind him Kagome flinched at such a murderous sight. Blood again spewed everywhere, and with just one more hit, Inuyasha hacked the head from the demon’s body, eliciting more than one sound of dismantling a body and privately he relished in it. The demon’s body fell to the ground in a boneless heap, and the jewel shard had been slung conveniently near Kagome. Despite the glow from the side, Kagome could not look at it or even begin to obtain it. Her gaze never left Inuyasha as his feet touched the ground with his back still facing her, claws raised with blood dripping from them.
“Inu...yasha?” Her voice was nearly a whisper, one foot managing to take a step forward. “It’s okay now.” She attempted at consoling him.
Inuyasha needed no consoling now, his head turning with a harsh crack in his neck to look at her over his shoulder. His eyes were narrowed, and the fangs had yet to hide themselves. “What did you say?” He growled.
No fear touched Kagome’s heart though and she stood her ground. “It’s okay now… we’re safe.” Without any hesitation she began running, full fledged toward Inuyasha. Even as he turned to face her, such an evil expression etched over his face, she did not pause. Uncaring of the blood that covered Inuyasha, she threw her arms around his neck and pulled him flush against her for an embrace.
Inuyasha appeared taken aback, a gasp falling from his lips and his eyes large as she threw herself at him. Gradually his eyes faded to a lighter pink before becoming white once more, his claws returning to normal size and fangs joining them. Kagome’s presence with purifying in itself.
“Ka..gome..” He whispered, body relaxing against hers now and a pained expression of regret embodied him. “What did I…”
“You saved me, Inuyasha.” She interrupted him, unwilling to allow him to be consumed by guilt over something he could not help. “Thank you so much.” Her voice slightly shook and she looked up at him with tears gleaming in her eyes, but such a beautiful smile adorning her lips. She could still feel the tentacles crawling up her body, the demon attempting to take over her, and if it had not been for Inuyasha, she feared the disgusting fate that would have awaited her.
“I, Kagome…” Inuyasha had only taken a mere second to smell the overwhelming scent of blood, knowing it now stained Kagome’s blouse and skirt and skin, but she must not have cared. He sighed as he wrapped his arms around her, to hold her close, only thankful he hadn’t hurt her. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry,” She whispered, “We’re alright now.” Still she smiled enthusiastically, despite the tears in her eyes. Inuyasha admired that. He admired that despite everything Kagome had seen in him, her love for him never faltered. He did not deserve her.
“Thank you.” A gentle smile came to his lips, affection clear in his gaze.
Kagome did not have to ask why he had said it, for she already knew. She hadn’t lied though. Standing here now, after all the events before (a particular sadness still wrenching her heart over Akihiko), his arms wrapped protectively around her and a love he would hardly speak about in his eyes, everything surrounding them was alright, just as they were.
And that was all Kagome ever hoped for.

Oscurità, amore mio - I
I have absolutely no goddamn clue just what the hell I’m doing with this AU but i’m having way too much fun to stop.
inspired by a book series i’m reading and it’s hilarious and i just kept thinking “what if” and then well suddenly this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ sorrynotsorry
A fair warning: This story is not going to have an actual plot. It’s going to be all over the place. The parts/chapters will be random scenes of whatever my brain decides to concoct, although most of them will most likely be Inukag interactions, rating from K all the way to M. They will probably also be very sporadic. There will be violence, blood (nothing hardcore), sex, and other scandalous/nefarious things. If you’d like me to rate each chapter at the beginning so you know what to expect, lemme know.
Big thanks go out to @sssuperbartola and @sesshsbae for agreeing to be my Italian customs/facts and translator sources lol. A lot of this story will take place in Italy becasue I wanted a change of scenery and they are my Italian queens <3 thanks guys, I appreciate it so much! Irene I know you were looking forward to this, so I hope you enjoy! ^_^
Note: There has been a title change! Previously known as Dalle Ceneri, Oscurità, amore mio means “Darkness, my love” in Italian.
Read on AO3.
Tumblr media
The only reason why he’d noticed her at all was because out of all of the humans packed like vile smelling sardines into this sorry excuse of an establishment, grinding, swapping spit and outright fucking on the dance floor, her thoughts were definitely not normal considering the type of place this was. Because while everyone else was thinking about sex and booze and getting their next fix…
Hers was of the more musical variety detailing a certain violet creature from the 1950’s that had a penchant for eating people.
As soon as the infuriatingly annoying lyrics crashed through his frontal lobe and demanded his admittedly reluctant undivided attention – because the feminine voice in his head was very loud and damned near drowned out every other voice – he’d nearly spit out his drink trying to withhold the abrupt and completely untoward laugh that bubbled up in his throat. Which was very fortunate, because he’d paid six euros for a single glass of whiskey. He’d rather not waste his money spitting it all over the place.
He’d recovered quickly, however, and against his better judgment, he’d honed in on that feminine voice still mentally belting out those annoying lyrics, and as he focused solely on that particular thought trail – or in this case, song – everything else faded into the background in a dull roar that was easily ignored. The lyrics became crisp and clear in his head, as if they were being said directly into his ear, and with his concentration locked onto his target, finding the source was only the simple matter of slackening his hold, for lack of a better term, on the thought and allowing it to more or less drag his gaze back from whence it originated. He likened the unique sensation to riding along the invisible current in the thought’s wake, so to speak, although it would be harder to explain to someone who was not privy to mind reading as he was.
...one-eyed, one-horned, flyin’ purple people eater. Sure looks strange to me. Well he came down to earth and he lit in a tree...
And in this case the source just happened to be a black-haired bombshell sitting at the other end of the L shaped bar counter, wearing a skin-tight black leather top and skirt that had certain areas on his body tightening coupled with sexy as hell thigh-high boots. However if he had to choose the most starling thing about her, it wouldn’t be her choice in attire, her questionable taste in music, or even the hint of black lace he could see peeking out just barely from under the waistband that clingy leather skirt.
It would be the fact at how utterly and completely bored she looked. With her legs crossed at the knee and her elbow propped on the counter with her chin resting in her hand, her expression was one of blank indifference as she stared sightlessly at the air in front of her, one of her booted feet swinging idly along to the tune in her head.
It was a one-eyed, one-horned—hm?
There was no glass in front of her, suggesting she hadn’t ordered a drink, or if she had she’d declined a refill and already paid her tab. Curious despite himself, he probed a little deeper, sifting through surface thoughts overlaid with the general impatience of waiting, and that should have alarmed him but as distracted as he was, he failed to notice the annoying lyrics had stopped and a pleased smile had surfaced on full, kissable lips.
Oh, there you are.
Inuyasha balked at the thought and frowned. That was...quite random—
I was wondering when you’d finally show yourself. I’ve been singing that atrocious song for an hour now.  I nearly put myself into a coma.
Or perhaps not so random. What?
Well, I had to get your attention somehow, she thought and it belatedly occurred to him that she was speaking to him. Which meant she was aware of his presence in her mind. Shit. I figured singing the most obnoxious song known to man in a place where the norm would usually consist of sex and alcohol would be like homing beacon. Her smile turned sly. Glad to see I was right.
Inuyasha gaped at her. The little wench had played him.
Fuck. Why the hell did that turn him on. What the fuck.
Quickly regathering his wits about him and turning his head so she didn’t catch him gawking at her – this new development required a sense of caution now – Inuyasha schooled his expression and lifted his glass to his lips.
Well, well. This is certainly a surprise, but not an unwelcome one, I must say. Didn’t expect to find another MR all the way out here in this dingy little pub. He tipped his glass back and slanted a glance at the dark-haired woman. She was smiling and looked downright delighted.
Actually, she said and out of his peripheral he watched her swivel around in her stool, dark eyes peering out over the other patrons and he knew she was looking for him. I’m not a mind reader.
He frowned. Then how—
It’s more like…reading an individual’s emotions rather than thoughts, she interrupted and from the look of concentration on her face, she was trying to pinpoint his location using the emotions she could sense from him. Difficult, but not impossible, as evidenced when he saw her look over in his direction, however her eyes passed over where he sat.
Inuyasha kept a neutral face as he pondered her words, and though it was appealing to give a hint as to who she was speaking with, he found himself wanting to draw this out even longer, reluctant to end the exchange so quickly. He lifted his half-empty glass, stared at the amber liquid, and then out of nowhere realization dawned.
If you’re thinking the word ‘empath,’ she said, most likely picking up on the enlightenment that replaced muddled confusion, then you would be correct.
She sounded pleased and Inuyasha tried very hard to mask the surprise that rode on the coattails of that clarification. Empaths were rare, more so than even mind readers, and Inuyasha considered himself fortunate to have run into one here of all places.
Which most likely meant that she was here for a very specific reason because you didn’t just accidentally run into an empath. That was not how it worked. They were rare for a reason; they did not like to be found, and were experts and concealing their presence. So to have this woman openly admit that they were an empath could mean one of two things.
One, she was heavily protected, or two, she was looking for someone.
A minute later after shamelessly rooting around in her thoughts he knew which one it was, and it was a challenge to keep his initial reaction contained, a mix of bewilderment, suspicion, and delight. It was a strange reaction to be sure, and it didn’t exactly bode well for him, but he didn’t care. The situation had just significantly increased in the benefits factor for him, and he wasn’t about to let this opportunity pass him by. And besides…
Inuyasha always liked a challenge.
Intrigued, and not bothering to hide his curious amusement, Inuyasha remained blank faced as her eyes skimmed over him again, no doubt trying to match up the emotions she was sensing to a person’s expressions and movements. So far she wasn’t having any luck and he fought a smirk when he heard an annoyed huff over the dull roar of the pub. What, did she think he was going to make it easy for her?
She suddenly brightened and once again, Inuyasha had to resist the urge to shake his head in amazement. Did she even realize how obvious she was being?
And now you’re wondering why I would out myself like this, she accurately guessed and he had to applaud her. She was very good at what she did which told him she had a lot of experience under her belt. Damn, this just kept getting better.
He wasn’t worried, though. Despite what she was thinking, he wasn’t who she was looking for. He was confident in this because there was one particular reason why he was set apart from other mind readers, a singular advantage he possessed that would become glaringly obvious the second she identified him. It sort of made him disappointed because it would have been a lot more fun if he had been her target.
Well, fun for him, anyway. He couldn’t say the same for her and he lifted the half-empty glass to his lips to hide his grin.
The dark-haired woman laughed and the pleasant sound had his ears involuntarily flicking toward her from beneath his black ballcap. I’d love to tell you, she began and Inuyasha sensed a but. But I think that’s the kind of conversation that should be spoken face to face, don’t you think?
Hah. Nailed it.
So, why don’t you tell me who you are, and we can have a nice long heart to heart outside where we’ll have some…peace and quiet. Whaddaya say? What she did next cemented his idle suspicions that she knew he was watching her despite not knowing where he was; she swung around in her seat and thrust out her chest, fingertips drawing a tantalizing path over her collarbones, across her breasts, then further down her trim figure over a flat, toned stomach.
He couldn’t help it; momentarily forgetting himself he growled but then quickly whipped his head around before she could catch his very appreciative gaze. Damn, he had to hand it to her; she knew exactly what she was doing and if he wasn’t careful he was going to give himself away before he was ready. It was bad enough that she could probably feel his lust for her, and a quick glimpse into her mind revealed she had and was feeling quite proud of herself.
Fuck. He had to do something. He had to give himself an advantage again, up the ante somehow because if he didn’t she’d realize who – and what – he was, ending this little game of theirs, and he didn’t want that, at least not yet. But dammit, she was getting closer to finding—
Inuyasha suddenly stopped, and then wanted to kick himself for being so stupid. Duh, you idiot, he scolded himself, rolling his eyes and then in the next instant, when her eyes were averted for a split second, he vanished.
Kagome scanned the seats at the other end of the L shaped bar again, paused, and then slowly backtracked. Her eyes landed on an empty seat that she could have sworn had been occupied not even five seconds earlier. She tried to remember what he looked like, because the tall, muscular figure that came to mind could only belong to a man, and the more she thought about it, the more she could recall who had sat in the now vacant seat. She hadn’t seen his face, but the thick arm muscles and broad back encased in a black t-shirt had definitely warranted her appreciative attention, and coupled with the short, shaggy silver hair, the attraction had been almost instantaneous and just imaging what all that glorious muscle looked like naked had her body tingling in interesting places.
It was too bad she was on the job, otherwise she probably would have put her seduction skills to good use, but it was just as well he was gone now. Her boss would consider him a distraction, and she could remember quite vividly what had happened the last time she’d allowed herself to become distracted.
She would rather not have a repeat performance of that particular moment in time, thankyouverymuch.
Shaking her head, Kagome huffed and continued her search. Well? she prodded after his emotional grid had been silent for several minutes. She trailed a finger down the slender column of her neck, meant to entice her target as a provocative smile curled her lips. Come to me and we can—
A hand, much larger than her own and tipped with deadly looking claws circled the back of her throat and Kagome’s thoughts came to a screeching halt, her eyes going wide as a gasp whispered past her lips. She tensed, waiting for the inevitable crushing of her windpipe, cursing herself because there was only one person who that hand could possibly belong to.
“Tell me, mia piccola fenice,” a male voice growled in her ear and Kagome shivered as hot breath washed over her neck even as her eyes went wide at his chosen nickname. “How did you know? I find I’m rather curious.” He was so close his chest against her back and she hated herself for wondering how it would feel to have him pressed flush against her. He chuckled and her face flamed.
Get out, asshole. “Know?” she said aloud, feigning ignorance, though she should have known better.
He tsked. “Don’t play coy,” he rumbled and gave a subtle flex of his fingers around her throat, however he didn’t squeeze. “I’m giving you the rare chance to tell me instead of just finding out the easy way. Don’t make me regret that decision.” Talons dragged across her flesh and Kagome bit her lip to stifle any traitorous sounds from escaping.
Deciding not to look a gift horse in the mouth since it would be entirely foolish if she refused, Kagome slowly relaxed once she realized he wasn’t going to squeeze her throat and took a deep breath in an attempt to calm her racing heart, although his breath on her neck was very distracting—
He chuckled again and Kagome mentally screamed, as much as in frustration as to force him out of her private thoughts. Goddammit!
Clearing her throat, her face red as she glared mulishly ahead of her, Kagome tried very hard to ignore the warmth of his hand as she gathered her thoughts. How did one explain what came naturally to them?
“Normal humans are very easy to read,” she began, her voice soft in case of eavesdroppers. “Their emotional grids are very loud and open, unguarded without fear of manipulation because our existence are just myths to them, stories to tell late at night, or whatever. Why should they feel the need to protect themselves against a mental assault, right? It doesn’t take much for me to get a lock on and, well...” She shrugged and he grunted in understanding. “So when I enter a place like a bar, the typical feelings I expect are lust, joy, and a general sense of carelessness.”
Inuyasha considered that and nodded; that’s basically what his nose told him as well so it made sense. It didn’t answer his question, though, so he gestured for her to go on with a wave of his hand.
Impatient, she inwardly snorted and he smirked, but let it go. She sighed, and she sounded a bit piqued as she continued, “You guys, on the other hand, are similar but have one notable difference. Your grids are more subdued. Um...muted, so to speak. You’re privy to the existence of humans such as myself, or even other creatures seeking to destroy, so therefore it’s an unconscious habit for you to mentally guard yourself against anything that might manage to sneak past your defenses, thus your emotions aren’t as loud or open. It’s like...” She paused, wrinkling her nose as she tried to come up with an accurate description. “It’s like your grid is masked, or concealed behind a mesh wall. I can feel them to an extent as little wisps escape through the holes, but unless I’m focused solely on you, I’m unable to get an accurate read.”
Inuyasha absorbed all of that with a contemplative frown, turning her words over in his head, and he didn’t truly understand what she meant until she finished with, not without an eye roll, “So in other words, your presence is an annoying smudge on my otherwise crystal clear and perfect landscape of emotions and it’s instinct to investigate it until I find the source. Happy now, Dracula?”
Inuyasha snorted and couldn’t help but retort back with, “You know Dracula’s not the original name.”
“You’re all the same to me,” was her snappish reply and, goddamn, he loved her sass. When was the last time he’d enjoyed a woman’s company so much when he wasn’t fucking her against the nearest hard surface?
“Yeah, see,” he drawled and something in his voice had Kagome’s brow puckering in puzzlement. “About that. We actually ain’t all the same.”
“What do you mean?”
“For starters,” he said, his tone blasé, “my diet doesn’t include a weekly dose of O positive.”
Completely confused now, because every vampire required blood at least once a week to survive, Kagome jerked herself out of his hold and he let her, his hand falling away. She took a few steps before whirring around to face him, expecting soulless black eyes, a pale complexion, and mouth spread into a lethal fang-bearing grin.
She hit one out of three and though it should have made her feel marginally better, the look he was giving her suggested she was still very much in danger.

A/N: I love Inuyasha, I love Voltron. I love Lance. his is not very good, but I really wanted to write it~
This is episode 11 of the anime!
With his bicycle ready to go, Lance carefully looked around him, trying to spot any red in the middle of the green forest. He was alone, thankfully, no signs of the hothead nearby. With a short relieved sigh, he started pedaling with everything he had, which was a lot, mind you, in direction of the well.
Sadly, Lance didn’t have much luck.
“Wait a second, idiot!”
Lance was able to stop before he rolled over the boy, although a part of him told him he should have just rolled over that annoying dog. Said dog was standing there, looking like the angry bastard he was, violet eyes flashing with a temper.
“You’re going back to that weird world?! Are you trying to run away?! We have shit to do!”
“Oh, out of my way, mullet dog! I have exams to take and I can’t afford to miss them!”
The fact was that Lance had to keep his grades up if he wanted his Exchange Program to go on without any difficulties. He was already risking a lot by not attending class for so long, and maybe Mr. Shirogane was destroying his reputation with all the weird diseases he used as an excuse. Because life couldn’t be hard only in Feudal Era, no, it had to be hard in his world too.
“Well, fuck that! I’ll destroy this so you can’t run away anymore!” Keith—the half-dog—grabbed a large rock, ready to destroy the wooden well. Lance didn’t hesitate.
“Keith, sit!”
Keith stubbornness was no match for Lance’s consecutive commands of “sit”, the boy falling face first on the floor, the rock falling on top of him. He groaned, cursing Lance in between his groans of pain.
“Who said I’m running away, dog?! I’ll be back in three days! Stay here!”
With that, Lance was gone inside the well.
“Why didn’t you bring the dog man with you?”
“No way, that mullet head is impossible to deal with! It was a bother to even come here without him stopping me!” Shoving the last bit of food in his mouth, Lance huffed, “Talking about coming back, Mr. Shirogane, I am glad you worry so much, but can you not throw sake in my head next time?”
The old man only laughed heartily, petting the family cat, Black. Lance smiled softly, it was hard to be angry with the man. He reminded Lance of his own grandpa, all wise eyes and cheekily knowing smiles. Finishing his meal, Lance thanked Mrs. Shirogane, Mr. Shirogane’s daughter, for the food, messed Tsuna’s hair, Mrs. Shirogane’s son, washed his dishes and went to his room to put on his uniform.
It would be a long day at school.
At least his hair didn’t smell like sake anymore.
After a very embarrassing conversation with his friends about his really bad health, and an even more embarrassing encounter with who could be the cutest boy in school about his very poor health, Lance could say with absolute certainty he was done.
“You’re dating Inai?!”
“No.”
“I think he likes you!”
“I know, Taira.”
“Well? Don’t you want to date him?”
“I’m not really interested in dating right now.” It was a complete lie, of course. It is not that Lance didn’t want to date, it is because how could he explain to his boyfriend or girlfriend the reason they couldn’t go out in the next month it’s because he has to go back in time to collect pieces of a super powerful glass ball?
Yeah. No.
Ushijima Amari, Akagawa Taira and Yuhara Natsumi were three kind and funny girls that were glued at the hip even before Lance came in the picture. They had promptly welcomed Lance in their group, and he was forever grateful. He hated feeling like a fish outside water.
Staring at the honestly horrendous slippers Inai Hachiro gave him, Lance wondered if the boy was somehow related to Mr. Shirogane, remembering the old man’s weird medicines and whatnots.
“Could it be… that you are already dating someone?”
“No, no, no! Nope. Not dating. Single as they come.”
“Then, then! What’s your type?”
Lance sighed, knowing they wouldn’t shut up unless he gave them something to satiate their hunger for gossip. He loved the girls, but they could be pretty annoying when they wanted. Not as annoying as Keith, but almost.
“Someone who’s not violent or selfish… Also, someone accepting and affectionate.”
The complete opposite of Keith, go figure.
While Romelle prepared some herbal medicine for a sick villager, Keith grunted. Hot pain pierced his spine every time he tried to get up. That rock really did a number on him.
“Keith, stop laying around and go find information of the Jewel fragments.”
“Shut up, you old witch! Go eat some grass!”
Keith swore that day, laying on the floor of the old priestess’ house, that he would punch Lance in the face as soon as that boy came back from his world.
“Can I sleep here today?” Tsuna asked, interrupting Lance’s studies.
“Of course, if you don’t mind the lights being on.”
That day could, at the very least, be called weird. A sudden fire in one of the deposits, Mr. Shirogane getting hurt and being found passed out with sacred seals all over his face and even inside his mouth, then suddenly one of the firemen trucks taking off like a madman was driving it. As if it wasn’t enough, Mr. Shirogane had recovered the conscience for enough time to mutter some random words about the Meat Mask and how no one should touch it.
Lance surely didn’t blame the boy for not wanting to be alone.
“Something weird is happening, I think. Grandpa wouldn’t do something so weird.”
The older boy opened his mouth to agree, but the sudden noise made him change his plans. Grabbing the flask were he kept the Jewel fragments—it was an instinct to immediately search for them when something happened—, Lance threw himself on Tsuna, protecting him from pieces of what once was a wall.
The basket of a firetruck was struck inside his room, and from it came out something. A creature made of melted blackness, with no defined form. It seemed to leak away and yet gravitate towards its center, that center being a white mask in the middle of the blackness. Painted eyes stared at Lance, carved smile sending shivers down the boy’s spine. The creature’s voice came, smooth and monotone.
“The Jewel… give me… the Jewel…”
“A demon! In this time?” Lance thought, eyes widening, “Must be the jewel’s presence!” As soon as he reached that conclusion, the boy lifted Tsuna in his arms and ran. He had to get out of that house. He had to get Keith. He had no means to fight at the moment, dressed in his cotton pajamas and comfy slippers. He should’ve brought his bow.
He would do that if he survived to see a next time.
Lance did not stop running when the monster attacked, dogging to the best of his abilities. He was glad Mrs. Shirogane was visiting her father in the hospital, he really didn’t want to think what would’ve happened if she was. Stopping for a moment, he put Tsuna down. His bleeding hand-when had he cut himself?—left a trail of blood on the boy’s shirt, but they didn’t have time to worry about it.
“Tsuna, I need you go to the well and get Keith.”
“And you?”
“I’ll distract it until Keith gets here. Please, Tsuna! Go get Keith!”
With that, Lance started to run in another direction, attracting the monster’s attention to him. All he could do was to hope for Keith to come quickly.
If anyone asked, Keith was not anxiously expecting Lance’s return while staring intently at the bottom of the well. He was not.
“How about of going after her instead of staring at the end of the well?”
“Shut up, stupid fox, isn’t it time for you to go to bed?”
“I’m just saying, you should go after her, you know, actually be productive?”
“Pidge, you have five seconds before I kick you back to where you came from.”
The damn fox just smirked, amused by the dog’s temper. Keith opened his mouth to growl out some insult when his nose picked up a familiar smell and his head snapped to look back at the bottom of the well. Pidge looked at him puzzled.
“I can smell… Lance’s blood.” Pidge widened her eyes, staring at what to her was just a normal well. Keith didn’t waste time, preparing to jump inside, “Pidge, go back to Granny Romelle, I’ll go find Lance,” Without giving her time to answer, he jumped.
“… That idiot is so in love with Lance.”
If anyone asked, Keith would admit being a bit surprised at finding the boy that Lance lived with crying while trying to open a hole in the well’s floor. Not sure how to deal with kids, Keith smiled cockily, hoping his show of self-confidence would somehow calm the boy down.
“What’s the matter? You seem troubled.”
In a few minutes, he was jumping from rooftop to rooftop, the boy on his back. He could smell Lance’s blood clear as day, even with the overall weird smell that world had. The hanyo disliked the smell a lot, Lance’s smell wasn’t made to be tarnished with blood, his own or otherwise. Keith could feel a growl trying to rip through his throat, whatever made that boy bleed would bleed twice as much.
He almost sighed in relief when he saw the boy alive and relatively well.
“Sankon Tessō!”
With his claws he opened the way by slaying the strange glob monster in half. Getting near Lance, he let Tsuna get down, who immediately hugged the blue-eyed boy.
If anyone asked, Keith was not glad the boy was ok.
“Don’t worry, Tsuna,” Lance said, trying to make the boy stop crying, “Keith will help us now.”
“Dunno about that.”
“What do you mean, mullet?” Lance soft gaze rapidly turned into a glare.
“I may help if you apologize.”
“Apologize? For what?”
“Don’t tell me you forgot!” Keith pointed accusingly at him. “You almost destroyed my back with your sit command and now you’re asking for help as if nothing happened?!”
“Oh, that! Well, I’m sorry.”
“You aren’t being sincere!”
“Just help us already, mullet dog! That thing has a fragment and I can’t fight right now, so stop whining like a kicked puppy and fight!”
“Who are you calling a kicked puppy, stupid boy?!”
Their fight was cut short when the monster’s body came together again. Lance informed Keith about the mask being the center of the creature, the half-demon taking out his sword, ready to fight despite his last fight with the Cuban. It’s not like Keith was actually planning to leave the humans to fight the demon alone. The mask did had a fragment of Jewel.
“I am the Meat Mask… centuries ago, I was carved from the tree trunk that received a fragment of the Jewel… I have been devouring people since then… I want a body… a body that won’t deteriorate quickly…”
Lance shuddered, muttering about creepy masks and stupid glass balls. Keith let a growl finally get out at seeing the boy’s fear.
“I don’t know how many people you’ve devoured until now, but you’re way too fat!”
To think all it took was a swing of the Tessaiga to end it all. The mask was gone in a flash of light, the fragment falling in front of them. Lance was quick to grab it and put in the flask with the rest of the fragments.
“Hey.” Lance turned to look at him, bluest blue eyes soft and thankful, “You okay?”
“Thank you, Keith.”
“Tch, whatever.”
If anyone asked, that was not a blush on Keith’s cheeks.
“Can I ask you one more thing?”
“Hm?”
“Take us home? I have exams to take and Tsuna has to go to school too.”
“What am I?! Your horse?!”
“Oh, c’mon, mullet dog! Just take us home before I get late!”
“No!”
“Keith!”
Tsuna could only watch as Keith begrudgingly let Lance hop on his back, the two still bickering.
“Tsuna, come on!”
“I’m coming!”

Kagome sipped on her hot cocoa gingerly as she perused the text messages she had received from Inuyasha moments ago. He had sounded upset about something and needed to come over to vent, so after pushing aside her gift wrapping and a quick, ‘See you soon!’, she had meandered into the kitchen to brew a hot pot of water and brought out a plate of cookies she had baked the night before.
Waiting patiently in the kitchen, the low hum of Christmas music playing in the background, she watched as Inuyasha pulled up in his beat-up red Ford truck. She smiled and raised a brow as he killed the engine and got out of the car, slamming the door behind him. His quick walk up to her front door spoke of boiled-over frustration, and she knew he would need a minute to vent.
“Hello, Inuyasha,” she greeted, beaming brightly up at him as she opened the door.
His pinched brows and stiff posture were anything but friendly as he stepped into the foyer, slipping off his boots and hanging his coat on the rack. “Hey,” he grumbled before making his way into the kitchen.
She followed after him as he helped himself to some hot cocoa and cookies, making himself at home as he often did. She leaned up against the counter and let him get settled at the table.
He peered around as he bit off a piece of gingerbread. “Where’s your family?”
“Out Christmas shopping,” she answered, pushing off the counter and taking a seat beside him, glad he was at least being civil this time. Usually, his foul mouth was running before she even greeted him. “Souta needed to buy some thing for his friends, so Mom and Gramps went with and made a day of it.”
Inuyasha hummed with acknowledgement and they sat in silence for a moment, Kagome waiting patiently for him to voice his true reason for visiting. Not that she was complaining - as seeing her boyfriend was always enjoyable regardless of the circumstances.
“Traffic sucked this morning,” he finally grumbled.
Kagome shrugged. “It wasn’t so bad.”
He rolled his eyes. “Keh, were we sitting in the same rush hour? Just because it fucking snows, everybody forgets how to drive!” She cleared her throat, a quick reminder to him regarding his foul mouth. “Sorry,” he off-handedly commented. “Its just that work sucked, and then I get home and nobody had shoveled. At that point it was practically ice! Never let anyone tell you snow is light – they obviously haven’t tried shoveling their driveway.”
She nodded, letting him express his irritation. Souta had been off school because of a snow day, and had spent the morning clearing their driveway, so she had gotten lucky when she came home from class that afternoon. Inuyasha, however, still lived with his father, and although often Toga would pay a neighborhood kid to shovel their driveway while he was at work or holed up in his home office, apparently today he had forgotten and had left Inuyasha to his own devices. Not uncommon for Toga, but still annoying all the same.
“Not to mention, Dad’s been in a foul mood this month because of how cold its been. Our bills are going up because of trying to keep the house warm, and he’s been cranking down the thermostat, so we practically freeze at night.”
“You can borrow my electric blanket,” she offered, knowing how much her boyfriend loved curling beneath it with her on cold winter nights.”
He scoffed. “And get my head chewed off by dad? No thanks.”
She scrunched up her nose at his brash words, but kept her opinions to herself. This was just Inuyasha’s way.
“Then I had to swing by the mall because my snow boots have holes in them and my gloves are falling apart, but of course ever since the day after Thanksgiving, everyone’s on a shopping spree for the holiday rush. I was so fed up with the crowds, I left before I even bought anything.”
Kagome glanced over at the entryway to Inuyasha’s boots, which indeed looked worse for wear. They had to be a few years old, if she remembered correctly, and he was a simple person in the fact he only had perhaps five pairs of shoes at best. Its no wonder they needed replacing.
Inuyasha exhaled deeply and took a long sip of cocoa before cramming a cookie into his mouth. Kagome took this as a sign that he was finished and gave him a smile. “You sure are grumpy for it being the Christmas season,” she pointed out.
“Bah Humbug.”
She chuckled. “Come on,” she said, standing up and placing her empty cocoa mug on the counter. She moved to the entryway and started wrapping her scarf around her neck.
Inuyasha raised a brow. “Where are we going?”
Kagome practically glowed as she smiled. “To bring you some Christmas spirit.”
He rolled his eyes, already used to his girlfriend’s Christmas antics, but didn’t deny her request. Still not really in the mood, he grumpily pulled his jacket back on and slid on his boots that were damp with snow.
She pulled him out into the front yard, breathing in the crisp evening air. A light snowfall had begun only an hour ago, gently beginning to cover the roof eaves with a thin layer of snow.
“Do you want to build a snowman?” she said in a sing-song voice.
He rolled his eyes and stuffed his hands into his pockets, replying with a clipped, “No,” that almost snuffed out her Christmas spirit. But she somehow always knew the way to cheering him up.
They started walking toward the town square, which Inuyasha griped about the whole way. Kagome simply brushed off his complaining. She smiled and tilted her head back, opening her mouth and sticking out her tongue.
Inuyasha shot her an incredulous expression. “What are you doing?”
“Catching snowflakes on my tongue.”
He shook his head. “You’re ridiculous.”
She chuckled. “Hey! It’s harder than it looks.” Her eyes brightened as excitement filled her voice. “I know! Let’s see who can catch the most!”
“No way.”
“Come on, Inuyasha,” she urged, nudging him playfully. “Are you scared I’m going to win?”
And after so many years of knowing her, Inuyasha shouldn’t have been surprised she was able to find his weakness. Challenge him to any competition, and he was sure to get fired up.
“Doubtful,” he replied with a smirk, the frustration and anger he had come storming over with beginning to melt away. “I’ll kick your butt any day.”
He opened his mouth and stuck out his tongue just as she had done moments ago, causing her to laugh with amusement as she mirrored the action. For several minutes, the pair sidestepped each other as they wandered down Main Street – receiving several humorous looks from bystanders – each diving to catch a snowflake, shouting out numbers for each successful attempt.
“Thirty-four!” Inuyasha shouted triumphantly as they neared the enormous Christmas tree in the square.
Kagome moved to catch another one, determined not to lose this particular game, but managed to bump into Inuyasha, sending her off-balance toward a patch of grass and careening backwards into the snow. As soon as she hit the ground, splayed out on her back, she laughed at the silliness of it all.
Her boyfriend towered over her, chuckling at her predicament. “You okay?” he asked, holding out a hand for her to take.
“Snow angels!” she simply responded with a laugh, beginning to move her arms back and forth in the snow.
He rolled his eyes at her childish behavior, but couldn’t deny her infectious energy. He plopped down beside her in the snow-covered lawn and coped her action, waving his arms in the snow, watching as snowflakes fell from the sky, the soft glow of Christmas lights illuminating the town.
After a while, their laughter died down and they laid still. Inuyasha’s arms remained outstretched as he watched his breath puff into the frigid air. The cold of the snow soaked through his clothes, but it felt good as the searing hot anger he felt less than an hour ago dissipated completely.
Kagome suddenly rolled over and tucked herself to his side, leaning over him with a smile. Her eyes were bright, shining from the lights of the tree, snow melting into her raven hair, her cheeks blushed prettily from the cold.
“You’re beautiful, you know that?” Inuyasha murmured, reaching up and tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear affectionately. And he meant it, in more ways than one.
She tilted her head thoughtfully. “I’ve been told that once or twice,” she teased, leaning down and giving him an Eskimo kiss.
He chuckled. “Let’s head home, you goof.”
He helped her to stand, and the pair locked hands as they ventured back toward her house. As they walked, a couple of kids rushed by them, laughter filling the air, as they carried a brightly painted star. Two townsfolk wearing angel wings and home-made halos sat near a manger, strumming on guitars and singing Christmas songs. And almost on every corner stood a man of faith, murmuring Christmas prayers to each person that walked by.
Kagome sighed deeply, and for once, Inuyasha mimicked the feeling. Ever since his mother’s death, it wasn’t often that Inuyasha felt Christmas spirit. But walking down the snow-covered street, buildings alight with multi-colored bulbs, and festive songs in the air… with the most beautiful woman of all… He couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace settle over him.
It wasn’t long before the pair escaped back into the warmth of Kagome’s home. She disappeared upstairs to fetch Inuyasha an extra set of clothes he had left there a while ago – a pair of sweatpants and his favorite hoodie – and once they were both dry, Inuyasha curled up on the couch in front of the fireplace while Kagome disappeared into the kitchen.
Expecting hot chocolate, Inuyasha was surprised when Kagome returned with a stash of eggnog. “Let’s listen to Christmas albums and get drunk,” she proposed with a grin.
Inuyasha chuckled, unsure how he could love this woman anymore than he already did, as she sat down beside him, pouring them glasses and turning on the stereo, a chorus of Do You Hear What I Hear belting out through the speakers.
He sipped on his eggnog, enjoying the creamy taste hug his throat, as Kagome curled up beside him with a throw over their laps. “You know,” she said off-handedly as they watched the flames curl and sway. “I think the best part about Christmas is that you don’t ever have to grow out of it.”
Amber eyes glinted curiously. “Is that so?”
“Yeah,” she said with a nod. “You don’t have to be a kid to love the mystery of it all. To sing in harmony. To believe in the imaginable.” She pursed her lips thoughtfully, and then, “The heart of Christmas isn’t something tangible. It isn’t found wrapped in presents or on store shelves. It isn’t even found in wonderfully cooked meals.”
He frowned. “But I love Christmas dinner.”
She giggled and slapped him playfully. “I mean, I believe that the heart of Christmas is found in you. And in me.”
For the first time, the unadulterated lingering sadness that had followed Inuyasha around year after year, especially during the holidays, evaporated completely. There would always be a part of him that would miss his mother dearly, but his desperate loneliness that had started upon her death was a little less hopeless. He would always cherish the memories of Christmas morning with his mother – bright eyes, a cup of coffee, eager anticipation, tinkling laughter – but he knew that there was another woman in his life he was making memories with; someone who made him love Christmas again.
Inuyasha leaned down and kissed her, catching her completely unaware, and causing their eggnog to spill. But he kissed her deeply, lovingly, unaware of the song ending and a new one beginning. His fingers curled into her obsidian locks as he held her tight, loving the way her body melted into his.
They inevitably pulled apart, taking shaky, shallow breaths. Kagome looks up at him, her head foggy as she tried to string a thought together. And finally, she found her voice. “Pass me the eggnog.”
Laughing, Inuyasha did as he was told and filled their glasses, receiving a stern scolding from her regarding the mess he made, before she found her place in the crook of his arm again. And as the evening wore on and the eggnog disappeared, he knew years from now they would both be looking back on tonight as a cherished memory.

Reactions to Demon Slayer KNY ep15-26
5:07 PM 10/8/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep15
I haven't quite decided to drop this series.  And if I watch Haikyuu instead, I'll want to write reactions and read subtitles instead of eat.  So KNY is best for my multitasking.
5:33 PM 10/8/2020 A much better episode.
I didn't write notes during because I was eating away from my keyboard.
Really surprised there wasn't a scene of Zenitsu being told that Nezuko is Tanjiro's sister.  I would have liked to have seen Zenitsu come to the conclusion to be nice to Tanjiro in order to get close to Nezuko.  Such a drastic switch is funny.  And yeah, he *began* this episode with that drastic switch, but didn't it need an explaination?  I mean, I've watched enough anime tropes to know about "getting the older siblings' blessing to date the younger sibling" cliche.  But shouldn't they have explained it?  Or at least explained how Zenitsu is ok with Nezuko being a demon?  I know he's a hardcore girl-chaser, but he's also been mostly established as a coward, especially when it comes to demons.  So shouldn't there have at least been conflict between those 2 sies of himself?  At the least, seeing that play out would have been interesting.
Felt kind of sorry for Zenitsu when he thought about wanting encouragement.  that's relatable.  But leaving him was the practical thing to do.  And anyway, even if he wanted encouragement, he should be honest with himself about not actually wanting to go into a forest of demons and be glad he got what he actually wanted.
I'm going to say it.  Inuyasha's Yura of the Hair, Get Backers' Kazuki Fuuchouin, Claymore's Winged Anastasia.  So many of the ways the spider webs threads were used in this episode, other anime have done before.  Seeming like they're floating by standing on threads, puppeting corpses, controlling living people, etc.  I should research spider yokai and see if they originated these specific techniques.
Oh, and Inosuke has an "animal spacial awareness" power too?  They say "technique", but c'mon, it's a power.  I don't know why I found it so much more acceptable in Naruto, but it just seems too much like a deus ex machina in KNY.  Maybe because Naruto had a lot of screentime to show training in techniques and normalizing that anyone can learn these "powers".  Whereas, KNY had a LOT of time lapse for the actual training montage episodes, and now these "powers" are coming out of seemingly nowhere.
Ukogi is the sparrow, huh?
. . .
4:29 PM 10/10/2020 Demon Slayer Kimentsu no Yaiba ep16
WEll, tangling the threads is a good idea, but does that mean the spider demon has kept her threads untangled all the way from her fingertips, through the trees, bushes, and entire forest, WITHOUT getting them tangled?  I mean, is folding over a branch really considered "tangling"?  I thought thread technique characters could manipulate their threads more---at least in other series.
I was wondering why they stopped attacking just because she snapped their necks, when half the people she was controlling were already corpses, but then I remembered she gave up on their usefulness.
Really disturbing to see the mother spider so obviously terrified, about to be abused by her husband, while her own children are laughing at her.
"If I die, I'll be released".  At least someone gets it.
It's interesting how a lot of the demons have a quick flashback to their human memories right before they die.  I hope that pays off well in the overall story later.
Tanjiro is sure taking his name misspoken by Inosuke during the previews, pretty well.  That's so refreshing, after so many series where a character completely freaks out then holds a grudge over their name being misremembered by someone that just met them.  I'm so tired of that trope.  It's so nice to see Tanjiro just patiently encouraging Inosuke to try again.  ;u;  Tanjiro continues to be so nice!  ;u;;  He and Nezuko really keep me sticking to this series.
. . .
4:59 PM 10/12/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep17
But if Zenitsu passes out in 15min, then won't he just go unconsciously OP and kill the demon?
So his hair is yellow from lightning?  ok......?
I have anxiety, depression, and suicidally low self esteem, so I can relate to Zenitsu, but WATCHING scene, after long scene, of a character who does nothing but scream and chase girls is not enjoyable.  I feel bad, constantly wondering why I keep hearing he's a fan-favorite character.
Isn't saying that the time Gramps spends training Zenitsu is "wasted", the same as saying Gramps is a bad teacher?  Does this guy *really* respect Gramps as a former Hashira?  Sounds pretty disrespectful to me.
Well, it's nice to see the malicious child---enough to laugh at his own mom while she's getitng spousal abuse---get beaten by someone like Zenitsu.
So is Zenitsu actually a little conscious?  Or is he dreaming?
I'm sorry I forgot the bird's real name.  Chuntaro will have to do for now.  Chuntaro's crying face was super cute.
It really hurts to see people picking on Zenitsu, when my anxiety/depression really forces me to identify with him.  And then the moral in the end is "everything is still worthwhile if you just don't give up"?  Sorry.  Not buying it.  If you're suicidal, you've already got the idea that death is an escape from suffering.  So the idea of working hard to survive, just to endure more suffering from your so-called "friends" and appreciating abuse from your "family" just because their abuse is proof of "not abandoning you", really irks me.
Hang on a second...  This demon isn't overtly hostile.  What?
Wait.  So this demon will abuse his wife but protect his daughter?  The hell?  And how he's spouting about protecting hsi family?  That's messed up.   . . .
2:44 PM 10/13/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep18
I don't understand.  Every other anime has translated "nisemono" as "fake".  Why is this series/episode translating it as "forged"?  Would it make sense to use "fake"?  There has to be something later in the story where "forged" makes more sense then using "fake".  I hope it comes soon, because it his really perplexing to me.  Right now, the emotional stakes of the fight don't mean anything without referring to a "fake bond".
I guess the flashbacks aren't just for demosn right before they die.
Wow.  These nichirin swords are breaking left and right in this episode.
. . .
10:34 PM 10/14/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep19
By god.  Someone figured out how to get Inosuke to take the time to heal his wounds in the midle of a battleground.  lol  Not bad.  lol  ^o^
Wow.  All this time I had been hoping Nezuko would help out in this fight since it seemed so many odds were stacked against Tanjiro.  Then shen it actually happens, I had forgotten about it, then WHAM.  Genuine surprise.  ^_^  It's like how I never see Tokugawa protecting Ishida, no matter how many times i see that movie.  lol
I'm sorry, but the talks between Tanjiro about fundamental philosophies is just too good!  ^o^  Nezuko has a will of her own...Fear is not a family bond...You need to fix that fundamental understanding...  It really helps to hear characters resolute in their belief that Nezuko has her own thoughts, to counteract all the ways this series keeps reducing her:  she can't speak, the hypnosis makes her protect humans vs she herself deciding to have a fervent wish/desire to protect humans, etc.  Need more of this.  Good job.
Is the blade being held by threads?  It looks like it's not even touching Rui's neck. o.o?
That was good setup for these flashbacks when a character thinks they're going to die.  I liked that the Hashira saving Zenitsu explained that specifically, on top of the series repeatedly showing it with demons and other characters through now.
This series really likes coming up with secret special techniques out of no where.  lol  I wonder why I put up with it so much with other Shonen anime?  Did they have better setup?  But even though it stands out a bit in KNY, I still roll with it because I love these protagonists and the animation is just SO DAMN GOOD.
Ooh!  Nezuko doing a Demon Blood Art!  *o*!  Yes!  Agency for Nezuko!  ^o^
Wow.  Haven't seen anyone fight this much with a broken sword since Utena.  ^o^
. . .
8:09 PM 11/4/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep20
That was a good ep.
Maybe as long as the characters are cool instead of really pushing for being the comedic characters, then I have absolutely no problems with this series.
I love how creepy Kouchou is with her friendliness and how sincere her offers probably are.
I already forgot wisteria is poisonous to these demons.  lol
. . .
5:33 AM 11/6/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep21
Well, this is unusual.  They're showing the ghosts conversing with the oni after they die.  Usually it's jut the flashback, some last reaction to the memory, then the oni dies.
Once again, I like how empathic Tanijro is.  I forgot that he can literally smell grief.
Tomioka only *just now* recognized Tanjiro and Nezuko?  lol
So Tomioka often acts contradictory to what he says?  He's a tsundere?
Is this going to be the comedy duo for the episode?  Better than Inosuke and Zenitsu.
I was wondering why Tomioka wasn't explaining earlier that Nezuko
"Kakushi".  Doesn't that mean "spirited away"?  Or maybe just "away"?
. . .
7:22 AM 11/9/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep22
In other words, they would have been IN SO MUCH TROUBLE if they went ahead and executed him.  lol
"The fact is that Nezuko has refraine dform devouring humans for more than 2 years, and also that there are 3 people risking their lives for her.  To reject this notion, those who reject it must offer an even more convincing argument."  That's a really good argument.
Other Hashira have never crossed paths with Kibutsuji before???
By those scares it loosk like Sanemi cuts himself a lot.
I think she's more angry that he attacked her and Tanjiro though.  More than holding back hunger.
Aaaaaaaaaand that's end of episode.
This episode's direction has had SO MUCH "be awed" moments.  The music, the pauses, the slower pace of some reveals, etc.  They really want us to be awed by the Hashira and everything going on.  Sorry, but the ending theme animation sequence and the continuation of this series already proves that everything will end up ok.  But even if I didn't already know a few spoilers, I'm so tired of the whole "be awed" direction.
All these Hashira are such exaggerated characters, I can feel how much this series is intended for younger audiences.  Suddenly, I'm more able to accept that article mentioning that kindergardeners watch KNY.  (https://soranews24.com/2020/09/07/japanese-schoolgirl-struggles-to-comprehend-the-shocking-truth-that-her-mom-is-kamen-rider/)
. . .
12:30 PM 11/16/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep23
I' expect Nezuko to be more angry about the Hashira beating up Tanjiro, more than any temptation by the blood.
omg Nezuko is speaking.
I still think it's more dramatically impactful for Nezuko to solely make the decision herself to not eat humans, vs because of Urokodaki's hypnosis.
Oh yeah, she's the medical person.  It makes sense for Tanjiro and Nezuko to stay at her house, at least for treatment.
omg  He still wants to do that right now???  You can get back at the wind Hashira later.  lol
Tamayo is teh oni doctor, right?  It seems like the Master has a physiological connection to demons, after all.
Yes, please stop shouting.  I can tell the seiyuu is having a lot of fun, but omg...I don't think I want to see a return of their form of humor.
omg  He's awake.  I thought being asleep would be the only way Inosuke would be so still.
I feel like the constantly crying Hashira is like a parody of all the Empathy I've been repeatedly praising Tanjiro for.  lol
1:01 PM 11/16/2020
. . .
6:29 PM 11/20/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep24.   Watched during dinner.  Didn't write reactions.
. . .
9:36 PM 11/21/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep25
9:44 PM 11/21/2020 I can't watch this episode anymore.  After all those stupid commercials, realizing how spoiled I've been by YouTube's skip ad option, my whole body still being sore from day 2 of returning to my pushups/ballet exercises routine,...  Everything is just too annoying.
This girl training Tanjiro during his rehabiliation is annoying.  Whether she's supposed to act as "teacher" for the training or "medical authority" in thier rehabilitation, it should be her responsibility to get Zenitsu and Inosuke back to rehab training.  Even if it wasn't, I hate this implication that this show is framing this situation as Tanjiro's responsibility!  It's not his responsibility!  His responsibility is to get himself healed!  This girl has no right to seemingly direct her anger at him for failing to get Zenitsu and Inosuke back to rehab training!  And even if she wasn't blaming him, the direction is certainly portraying that implication!!!  Adn Tanjiro is _reapeatedly_ trying to get them back to rehab training, so we have to watch this girl _repeatedly_ seem to blame him for their failures!  This whole thing is stupid.
And then on top of that, the story is starting to move back towards Zenitsu and Inosuke's perspective, likely to finally reveal why they've been skipping out on rehab training.  But all I can remember is how much worse this series got when they showed up.  How much every scene with them went too long and too annoying.  How I don't want to watch them.  And how much better the series got again when they faded back into the background.  I'm sorry to their fans, but my brother was right (about Zenitsu):  Zenitsu and Inosuke are annoying.  I don't think I like them.
Previous episode was good though.  All about Tanjiro and Kochou.
. . .
12:24 PM 11/22/2020 The other day, maybe 2 days ago, I was watching the Kimetsu no Yaiba ep where Tanjiro was struggling to do his full concentration breathing 24hrs a day, and I heard it again: The theme of diligent everyday work.  I'm listening to the One Punch Man opening theme, and that series was very much about that.  Did HeroAca also have that theme?  I doubt it, with all the superpowers.  Then again, it may not have stated it explicitly like KNY or OPM, but it probably *portrayed* it better than them.
. . .
1:52 PM 12/2/2020   Kimetsu no Yaiba ep25.   2nd try, after Crunchyroll crashed.
1:56 PM 12/2/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep25
Unfortunately saw note from last time I tried to watch this ep and found it very annoying so I didn't finish it last time.  Maybe now's not a good time to watch an annoying show, while Nanay is giving off ominous vibes.  But I'm so close to finishing off this series/season.
Ugh.  Oh yeah.  Tsundere.  That's part of why I gave up on this ep last time.
Again, with the "work hard" theme.  If they're going to go with the "hard work solves everything" theme, that's been going around with series like One Punch Man, then at least be encouraging about it, sparrow.  I'm sorry, but I'm already from the generation/society that has lived with that "hard work ethic solves everything" being told all our lives, but by now has been proven a lie.  People work hard and work hard and the oppressions keeping them back aren't recognized.  Then "just work harder" gets used as a fuckin EXCUSE to ignore those oppressions and blame everyone's positions SOLELY on their individual motivations/ambitions.  I mean, *I'm* lazy and hopeless as all hell---I am Gen X, we're supposed to be nihilistic, after all---but I'm coasting!  Hard work does not deterine everything!  And there have been so many journalism pieces revealing the myth of the "hard work solution" just being used as an excuse to ignore problems and not help people, forgive me if seeing that theme being advocated just makes me cynacle as all hell.
At least Kocho knows how to encourage people.
If Shinobu is so angry that Kanao can't think for herself THEN JUST TEACH HER GODDAMNIT.  She's a little kid!  That's what you do with little kids!  omg Why does she bother staying angry after her big sister solved the problem right in front of her.  See?  This is what is so tiring about sticking to comedic cliches (in this case, the prolonged flustered angry ranting), instead of just allowing the writing to follow the logic of the characters.  Like PopCultureDetective advocated, you don't have to follow a genre's cliches, simply for homage, if those cliches just perpetuate negative things.  In this case, annoying nusance behavior for the purposes of obsolete ideas about comedy.  ..then again, this series has already proven that the manga-ka has warped ideas about prolonging annoying behavior as equating "comedy".
Haganezuka is probably going to kick your ass for breaking your last swords.  Don't be so happy to see him---Yup.  There it is.
He's probably going to chip the blades with that rock.  This is going to be bad.
At the rate Tanjiro is straining, he's going to need to recover from his rehabilitation.  lol
LOL Tanjiro just tapped the teacup into place on her head! lol  I'm so glad he didn't just not splash her or completely forfeit the duel.  There's this old martial arts anime cliche about guys losing on purpose or forfeiting a match just because they "don't want to hit a girl".  It comes from old "gentlemanly" ideas, about respecting women because their "delicate" and frankly, before chivalry codes, knights were assholes and women were especially brutalized all the fucking time, so chivalry was needed to counter that.  But in martial arts anime, it repeatedly gets used on female characters who have actually been kicking everyone's asses, including the male protagonist's, for a big part of their screentime.  So it just ends up being really insulting to imply "hey, I'm this big strong dude, simply for being born male, and your sex/gender automatically makes you nothing but weak, so I'm not going to even try to actually win this duel, because anything I do without holding back is going to be too much for you to handle".  And maybe I'm old and have seen this cliche too many times with all my years on me, but I'm tired of it.  Maybe in real life, women still get brutalized much more than men, women still need efforts at consideration directed towards them to counter all the mysogyny, and the average man vs an exactl equal average woman tends to maybe have more muscle mass without trying, but when I watch an anime to see the fantasy of a woman unafraid to take a hit and able to dish it out just as well, you can't just break the immersion by bringing in those real world considerations of chivalry, without being simply demeaning towards that power fantasy female character.
omg I thought someone would peak out and reveal they spoke for Nezuko.  But I think thee thing I've been griping about should happen, just happened!  Nezuko spoke for hereself.  ;u;
. . .
12:00 PM 12/3/2020 Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba ep26
Does this mean I have to watch the movie before season 2 is released?  I thought I could just skip the movie.  I hope it gets put on Crunchyroll.  Because AX won't be in-person again for a while.

You've been on a roll lately and it's been great to read! Would it be possible to get some yuri fluff of Kagome x Fem!Miroku x Sango?
So happy to see that these are becoming such loved pairings! Here you are, hope you enjoy!
It was thanks to Kagome that she knew that there was nothing wrong with her, not that she believed there ever was, to begin with. But as a Buddhist monk, there were certain things she had taken vows for. But did the time traveling Miko ever make it hard for her!
Her open and trusting personality, caring nature, fierce loyalty, and revealing clothing! Oh, she lost herself in the hypnotic sway of Kagome’s green short kimono often. Luckily she managed to cover herself with the meditation card. Shippo was thankfully still too young, even for a kitsune, and Inuyasha seemed to believe that women could not be attracted to other women. Or just blind.
But Sango saw through her act. It didn’t take the slayer long. She had been trained, practically since birth, to see all the details to ensure she became a better slayer. And since she found out about her little obsession, the other woman went out of her way to keep an arm’s length away.
Miku didn’t feel slighted, well, maybe a little, but she had Kagome to help soothe her pains. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually. That girl was a soothing balm for all of them. Even if Inuyasha didn’t notice or appreciate her.
And then one night while bathing, sadly Kagome had returned home, Miku learned exactly why Sango kept her distance.
“So, it’s not because you find my attraction for Kagome wrong?” she had been so stunned that she stopping in washing her hair with the wonderful soap that Kagome had gifted her with.
Sango blushed brightly, brows pinched tightly together as she shook her head. “No. I was just upset about how obvious you were while she wasn’t looking. She is a Miko and deserves respect her station is due.”
Blinking at the confession, Mioku slowly returned to washing her hair. “Oh.” it wasn’t until after she washed all the soap out did she finally ask what had been bugger her since Sango officially joined them. “Then why the distance?”
The blush this time crawled down Sango’s chest until it disappeared beneath the water. “Because… I felt… feel… attracted to you…”
It took a few moments for what she said to filter through a few times before making sense to Miku. her eyes widened. “Oh.” her mouth slowly parted to speak up when Sango threw her another one.
“But I also like Kagome!” and that was all it took for Sango to let loose. “I mean, it’s wrong! We keep telling Inuyasha that he can’t have both Kikyo and Kagome, and then here I am doing the same thing as him!”
When Sango began to slash at the water, Miku rushed forward to halt her before she harmed herself. “No. No, you are not. Even though I take pleasure of the flesh, I have never let them think there will be more than our night together.” her lips quirked at Sango’s blush. “What Inuyasha is doing if far crueler. He is allowing Kagome to believe she’ll be his only while seeing Kikyo as well.”
Sango pouted, heart still pounding at the whole situation. “And I… we’re not doing that.”
“No, we’re not.” I suggest we talk with Kagome when she returns. A nice hot bath for all of us.” she waggled her brows when Sango fidgeted when Miku pressed closer. “What do you say? Hmm?”
Sango nodded her head, shifting when she could begin to feel the barest brushing of Miku’s skin against her own. “Yes.”
“Good.” Miku purred as she pressed a kiss to Sango, just on the corner of her mouth. With that, she backed off so they could go over what they wished to discuss when Kagome returned.
Kagome was surprised when both Sango and Miku had jumped her the moment she returned, being rushed to the local hot spring. It wasn’t odd that they bathed together, but the moment she arrived was new. “Everything alright?”
“Perfect, my dear Kagome, we just missed you is all!” Miku’s voice was practically singing when she leaned in to kiss her cheek.
Narrowing her eyes, Kagome turned to Sango to hopefully get a straight answer. “Is there something I’m missing?”
Sango blushed as she shook her head, making Kagome all the more suspicious. Her silence in wake of Miku’s obvious flirting was odd. “Alright… If you say so.”
When they arrived, they were quick to strip down and get in, cooing over the new soaps that Kagome brought with her to swap out for the old empty bottles both Sango and Miku gave up in return. Once the chore of washing up was done, Kagome was relaxing under Miku’s talented fingers as she offered the best back rub Kagome had ever known.
“So, now that we’re all relaxed, mind telling me what the two of you has you so wound up?” Kagome eyed Sango and then Miku.
Miku looked at the shy and flustered slayer, giggling at her red cheeks and knowing it was due to more than the heated waters. “Well, since Sango seems to be shy, I’ll be the one to explain.” she snickered at Kagome’s quiet ‘about time’. “Sango and I have come to a realization while you were away and had a serious conversation that brought us to not only an understanding but agreement as well.”
“Alright.” Kagome was curious as to why Miku was dragging this out. True, she had a way with words, but she also knew how to get to the point.
“See, we’ve come to realize that we both share very fond feelings in regards to each other.” she smiled when Kagome perked up and brightened, seemingly happy to hear the good news for her two friends. “And, we also realized that we share those same feelings for you.”
Her expression froze, wide eyes blinking as her smile slowly vanish only to breath out a small “Oh.” her gaze dropped to the water, not responding to either of them or shrinking away from Miku’s continued touch.
Being behind her, Miku had to look towards Sango to gauge any reaction, her posture easing when Sango was quick to smile. Turning to Kagome, she too smiled at seeing the blush that seemed to cover her entire face. “I take it you’re not adverse to our feelings?”
“What?! No, not at all!” Kagome turned so she could face both of them, hand pressed to her chest as she attempted to calm her heart. A few moments later, her blush dimmed though still clung to her cheeks. “It’s just, I never really thought of having such a relationship with another girl, let along two, before. I’m flattered, happy, confused, but comfortable.”
Miku cooed at her, cupping Kagome’s cheeks and lean in to kiss the corner of her mouth. “You deserve all the love, affection and attention for everything you’ve done for us! I know I speak for Sango as well as myself when I say that we’re happy to hear that you’re happy.” tucking a few strands of hair behind an ear as her other hand reached for Sango.
Sango nodded her head, shyer between the two of them, but happy nonetheless to approach them. “Miku is right, hearing that you’re happy and comfortable to be in a relationship with us. But, why confusing?”
Kagome shrugged, shy all of a sudden. “Well, this is all new to me. I always thought I’d find happiness with, well, a guy. Like, Inuyasha.” blue eyes peeked up front under sooty lashes. “But, I’m also looking forward to sharing this with the two of you.” she was quick to pull them into a hug, kissing their cheeks.
They both returned it, relishing in being with those they loved and cherished. It was just as Kagome was about to pull away when she squeaked. “Miku!”
“Sorry, couldn’t pass up this opportunity!” she wiggled her fingers in Kagome’s direction.
“I would have expected a butt groping from you if you were a guy. Why go and ruin the moment?” she pouted at Miku who only cooed in response, turning to give Sango the same treatment.
“Sango doesn’t seem to mind! Do you dear?” her voice purred as she kissed a blushing cheek.
Kagome turned to a fiercely blushing Sango, that appeared slightly stiffer than normal, but wasn’t saying or doing anything to disagree. “Oh… oh my! Seems you two have been busy while I was away!” she laughed, finding Miku’s smugness and Sango’s shyness at the statement highly adorable. “If this wasn’t all so funny, I think I might be jealous!”
“That’s what I love about you, Kagome. Or one of the things I love about you.” Miku commented. “You’re so understanding!”
“Glad to hear!” she began to gather her things at the side of the spring. “We best be getting back, we’re probably starting to prune already.” she nearly slipped when Miku wolf whistled when she began to pull herself out of the water. “Miku!”
“What? Just appreciating the view.” Miku laughed, not even bothering to feel ashamed. “Besides, I’m not the only one, am I Sango?”
Sputtering, Sango looked away. Though, there was still a smile on her face, happy to finally relax around them now that her feelings were known and returned with the two most important people in her life. All they had to deal with now was Inuyasha, but with the three of them, they were more than a match of that overgrown pup.

“It’s great to have our little brother back! We’re going to give Kuro a lesson on how to be a loyal mate.” Tsurugi said. Mahiru laughed hesitantly but he couldn’t tell if the wolf demons were joking or not. He was an only child so he never had brothers fret over him before. He knew they were kind people and they were trying to be supportive.
“Where did you go and how did you come back so quickly? We didn’t see you come into the battle.” Yumikage’s comment made Mahiru nervous. He was glad that no one had noticed him climb out of the well and discovered that people could travel through it. He trusted them but he wanted to keep the secret with as few people as possible.
Takuto jumped onto Mahiru’s shoulder and bombarded him with more questions about his journey since they last met. He was glad for the distraction and he told them about the adventures they had and the boy’s eyes widened. As he told the stories, he would glance towards Kuro and blushed slightly. The memories made him think of how he fell for Kuro.
They had decided to start dating the previous night. He knew that it would be difficult to have a regular relationship since they would be busy collecting jewel shards and fighting demons. Since Hyde and Licht joined to help them, they didn’t have time alone like they used to. He didn’t know what the future held but he felt hopeful with Kuro’s support.
“We were thinking of taking you back with us when Kuro told us that he sent you away.” At his words, Kuro wrapped his arms around Mahiru’s waist and pulled him closer. Jun chuckled for a moment but then he said. “You might be safer travelling with Kuro. We don’t know how much safer the mountain is compared to anywhere else. Touma’s forces are growing and it’s becoming harder to evade them.”
“Will the tribe be safe in the mountain? Your number gives you an advantage in fights but Touma’s powerful and he uses underhanded tricks.” With six shards between the three, they were strong but Mahiru still felt concerned.
“Shouldn’t you be more worried about yourself, Mahiru? Touma has a grudge against your family and he has been mainly targeting you in his last few attacks.” Hyde said and they turned to him. He was resting in the hut and they didn’t notice him come out. “Kuro, can I talk to you alone for a minute? There’s something I need to discuss with you.”
“Okay.” From Hyde’s low tone, Kuro knew that it was likely something serious. He let go of Mahiru and went into the forest with his brother. He didn’t say a word as they walked and Kuro didn’t want to push him to say what was on his mind. His brother was a loud person so his silence now was worrying him. He also wanted to speak to him alone.
Once they were at the edge of the village, he noticed that a large whale demon was waiting on the road. Hyde held his hand between them and traced his finger over the cloth. “The poison had left my body but the bees damaged my wind tunnel. I can feel the scars on the edge and I’m worried they’ll grow if I use my wind tunnel again. There’s a monk who can help mend it though.”
“We can go right away.” He didn’t understand why Hyde wouldn’t tell him about the injury in front of the others. Kuro understood that he wouldn’t want to show others his weakness but he should trust Mahiru after everything they’ve been through. “I’ll get Mahiru and Licht and then we can leave to go to the temple. Is it far?”
“The journey will take half a day. Months ago, I worked with the temple to find a way to break the curse but the best they can do is mend it. The process takes a few days to heal as well.” Hyde gripped his hand. He hated that his wind tunnel would hold them back. “It’s better that I go alone while you three continue to search for the shards. Touma will attack us if we stay in one place too long.”
“How will you find us after we separate? I’m sure Mahiru would disagree with your plan as well.” Kuro knew how prideful his brother was and he debated what he should do. He could be wasting time by arguing when Hyde needed to go to the temple to heal his hand as soon as possible. “Touma’s last three plans to attack Mahiru has failed so he will probably take a break now.”
“I owe the residents of that temple a lot and I can’t risk Touma attacking them.” Hyde turned away from him, ending the conversation. He grabbed the whale’s hair and pulled himself onto its back. “I wanted to tell you where I was going so you wouldn’t worry about me. I’ll be back in a few days.”
“Hyde.” Kuro placed his hand on the whale’s fin to stop it from flying away. “Be careful.”
Tumblr media
“Are you sure it was the right decision to let Hyde go alone? You said he was the one who insisted but it’s dangerous for him to go alone. Touma cursed him because he refused to collect shards for him. He might target him more since he’s working with us now.” Mahiru knew how much Kuro cared about his brother so it must’ve thought it was best for Hyde.
“I want him to focus on healing. If I try to push him to let us help, he’ll push back and it’ll turn into a fight that will make the injury worse. He seems to trust the people at the temple so they’re good people. Hopefully, the monks have a strong barrier that can keep Touma out.” Kuro thought of how stubborn Hyde was as a child and that aspect hadn’t changed.
Licht had been listening to their discussion but he had yet to say a word. Mahiru was surprised that he hadn’t given his opinion on the situation considering he was an outspoken person. He wondered how he felt about Hyde leaving. Hyde had a good reason to leave but he only discussed it with Kuro before he left. How little did he trust them if he could only open up about his curse to one person?
Abruptly, Licht stood and marched out of the hut. Mahiru didn’t know what he intended to do so he followed him outside. He saw him whistle sharply and Kirara hopped off his shoulder. The nekomata grew into a large beast and he climbed onto its back. Licht reached up and traced an invisible line in the sky. “What are you doing, Licht?”
“I’m going to track down that demon.” Licht told him simply. He pointed to the sky and explained: “Since he’s flying, it will be difficult for Kirara to follow him with his scent. I have other ways to find a demon though. The whale demon he travels with disturbed the clouds when it flies through the sky. If we leave right now, we can follow the trail.”
“What are you going to do when you find him?” Kuro asked him. He wanted to be there to support Hyde but he would respect his wish to handle it the way he wanted. “With how often you two fight, I didn’t expect you to want to follow him.”
“The temple will have to lower their barrier to let the demon inside. While he’s there, the temple is vulnerable to attacks by demons. They need the protection of a demon slayer.” Licht answered but he didn’t meet his eyes as he did so. He patted Kirara’s back and it rose a few feet into the air. He looked down at Kuro and Mahiru and said, “Kirara can only carry two people at a time. We’ll fly low so you two can follow us to the temple if you want to.”
“Hyde is your brother, Kuro. He might not appreciate you meddling in his life but he’ll understand.” Mahiru placed his hand on his shoulder. “He told us to continue searching for the shards. We can lie and tell him that I sensed a jewel shard near the temple.”
“You’re a terrible liar while he has been tricking people into thinking he’s a monk for decades. He’ll be able to see through us easily.” Kuro said but he wrapped his arms around Mahiru. He swept him into his arms and then nodded up at Licht. “He’ll be upset but he can’t fight us while his hand is recovering. Let’s go before I remember why this is a bad idea.”
“People regret the things they don’t do more than the choices they make.” Mahiru told him and held onto Kuro’s neck. He reassured him. “Everything will be alright, Kuro.”
Tumblr media
“Welcome back, Hyde. How have your travels been?” The monk greeted him with a welcoming smile when he reached the temple. He nodded back to him and looked up at the simple temple. “You don’t visit us unless you need your wind tunnel repaired. Was it in another fight? You should know more than anyone that you cannot use your right hand.”
“It’s a few small nicks but I don’t want to risk them growing. Lately, it has been more difficult to avoid fighting. I met a few interesting people who wants to gather the jewel shards. One of them is a priest who can purify the jewel and his efforts will benefit humans. By helping them, I will fulfill my promise to Ophelia.” He said and looked up at the sky. “Have things been peaceful here?”
“Your sutras have kept us safe.” He told him. Hyde trained to be a monk at the temple with the hope that he could discover a way to free Kuro from the tree and fight him. He didn’t learn how to purify the cursed arrow but he gained more knowledge than he expected. He owed a lot to the temple and the people within its walls. “Go purify yourself at the waterfall and we can start mending your wind tunnel, young man. Will your new friends be joining us? We can prepare a few rooms for them.”
“It’s just me and Gil.” He said and lightly shook his head. Gil became smaller and a few young children ran to greet him. He could change his size at will and most found his land form adorable. Hyde thought the scene was amusing since Gil was a powerful and gruff demon in his true form.
“Mr. Whale!” Hyde gasped when he was roughly shoved aside but someone caught his arm to keep him from falling. He looked from Kuro who stood behind him to Licht hugging the whale. For a moment, he was too surprised and confused by their sudden appearance to speak. Licht patted the whale’s head and smiled, “Did the bad demon make you fly all the way here, Mr. Whale?”
“Hey, he’s a demon too. Why do you treat him like a puppy but kick me around? Also, you ride Kirara everywhere!” Hyde pointed out. He roughly pulled his arm out of Kuro’s grip and turned towards him. “What are you three doing here? I told you that I would only be gone for a few days and I can find you once my hand heals. You should’ve searched for the shards instead.”
“But you’re more important than the shards, Hyde. You’re Kuro’s brother and our friend.” Mahiru spoke over him. He gestured to Licht and added, “Licht was also worried about you. We would’ve had more trouble finding the temple if it wasn’t for his tracking skills as a demon slayer. Don’t push aside their feelings. They want to help you.”
Hyde had been travelling alone since he finished his training as a monk. He would only call upon Gil when he needed to travel a large distance or return to the temple. He missed his family and he couldn’t remember the last close friend he had. His pride didn’t allow him to voice those thoughts thought. He merely sighed and said, “I’m going inside. You can stay if you want.”
“Excuse me.” A monk approached them and Mahiru bowed respectfully to him. “Are you the friends that Hyde mentioned when he arrived? It’s nice to meet you. That boy may be a strong demon and a more talented monk but we worry for him. It’s more than just his curse that makes us worry. He is stubborn and only death will make him accept other’s help. Since he lost Ophelia, he keeps people at a distance.”
“Hyde told me about her but he didn’t tell me what happened.” Kuro looked towards the path Hyde left. He recalled the grief and regret his eyes held when they spoke the previous day.
“That’s a strange arrow you have, young priest. The wood is crafted strangely so its aim will be unreliable. I can sense great power in the arrow though.” The monk commented and pointed to the quiver Mahiru wore.
Mahiru knew he was likely referring to the arrow he made from a branch of the Thousand Years Old Tree. After Touma retreated, he found the arrow at the bottom of the well and decided to keep it with him. He wasn’t worried that Kuro would try to send him back again. The powerful arrow could be effective against Touma and other powerful demons.
“Be careful with ancient power.” He warned. “Such forces can harm the wielder if they cannot properly control it.”
Mahiru recalled how he used most of his spiritual power when he broke through the well with the arrow. He had to be cautious when he used the arrow. He felt Kuro gently take his hand and he felt less tense. They could overcome powerful demons together.
Tumblr media
“I can’t believe they followed me. Can’t they just leave well enough alone when I can handle everything on my own?” Hyde muttered to himself as he left the waterfall. He dried himself and then changed into clean clothes he left nearby. It was difficult to dry the cloth wrapped around his hand but he couldn’t take it off due to his wind tunnel. He sighed and ran his finger over his palm.
The rushing water of the waterfall muffled the sound around him and left only his thoughts. Echoes of the past haunted everywhere he looked at the temple and they were difficult to ignore. He walked back to the temple and hoped he could find something to distract himself. He was upset that his brother followed him but they could help him keep his mind off the past.
“Maybe I should play go with Nii-san or train with that delusional angel.” He mused with himself to fill the silence. Hyde would often spend most of his time sleeping and healing whenever he visited the temple to mend his wind tunnel. He was surrounded by people in the temple but he didn’t realize how lonely he felt until he looked back on it now.
In the distance, the song of a koto called to him. He was able to hear it with his heightened senses and he wondered who was playing. Hyde followed the lulling sound until he reached a lone cherry blossom tree resting on a hill. He was shocked to find Licht playing the koto. He never imagined such a gruff man could play such a delicate song.
Licht’s back was turned to him and his focus was on the string instrument so he didn’t notice Hyde behind him. His body swayed lightly in time with the melody and he began to sing along. He didn’t know the lyrics that match the melody so Licht simply hummed his notes. His voice was clear and beautiful like the notes of the koto.
“Though the world is cruel; There’s a light that still shines.” Hyde sang the lyrics and Licht turned to him. He sat next to him and plucked a string. “Each night my father would train me to the bone but then my mother would sing the lullaby to me. I don’t know why she stayed with him and the other concubines. She was a powerful oni.”
Licht didn’t have an answer for him and he could tell that Hyde wasn’t asking for one. They have only known each other for a short time and Hyde rarely spoke about himself. The few things he knew about him, he learned from Mahiru or overheard the brother’s conversation. His parents were kind and loving people. He couldn’t imagine what kind of childhood he had with a violent father.
“I didn’t know you could play the koto, Lichtan.”
“I also know how to play the biwa and flute. My village would make weapons from bones of demons we slay. There were a few bones left over and my mother made me a koto. She thought I should learn a skill if I ever decided to stop being a demon slayer.” Licht played a short song. “I would never leave my village but I continued to play. Music was one of the few joys we had despite all the fighting.”
“What will you do after we defeat Touma? It will be difficult for you to continue fighting demons alone. Maybe you should find a strong woman and start a new village with her.” He suggested and Licht’s hand froze over the strings. Hyde noticed the way he hesitated before he responded.
“I never thought of what I would do after I defeat the spider demon. It would be difficult to rebuild my village with a woman since I never gave much thought to romance before.” Licht admitted. “The village is like a family even though we weren’t related by blood. We survive because we rely on each other and you should do that as well. You shouldn’t have left without telling Mahiru and me.”
“I didn’t think you would care.” Hyde said and Licht turned away from him.
“No one said that.” Licht quickly changed the topic. “This tree is beautiful. It’s not cherry blossom season so I’m surprised that it’s in bloom.”
“A priestess was buried on this heal and she watches over this temple. I owe her my life.” Hyde told him with a sad smile. He heard someone approach them and he looked over his shoulder to see a young monk walking towards them.
He stopped behind then and said, “We have prepared everything to mend your hand. Master Mushin is waiting for you in the west wing.”
“I’ll be right there.” Hyde said and stood. Licht started to return to playing the koto, he paused when he noticed that the monk didn’t have a shadow. His eyes narrowed and he scanned the temple. He pushed himself to his feet to go find Mahiru.
Tumblr media
“I’m grateful for your help, Master Mushin, but I wish the medicine tasted better.” He had finished sewing close the nicks on his wind tunnel but he would need to rest his hand for the next few days. The medicine he gave him numbed his body so he wouldn’t be hurt.
“You should get as much rest as you can for now. I will have someone bring food later.” There was a knock on the door and he went to answer it. Hyde could barely move since the medicine was still in his blood. He was a demon so he managed to gather enough strength to sit up. In the doorway was the apprentice he spoke to earlier.
His mind was foggy but he could sense something strange about the man outside. The light caught the metal of a knife hidden in his robe. When he started to reach for the weapon, Hyde grabbed the teacup and hurled it at the man. He was still weak but he managed to hit his hand. “Get away from him, Master! He’s being controlled by a demon.”
The shadow stretched towards him and a demon rose out of the ground. Hyde cursed and rolled away from its attack. Since it hid itself in the monk’s shadow, he hadn’t noticed the demon earlier. “Touma promised me a shard of the jewel for your head, Oni. He said you will easy prey if you ever return to this temple.”
He was still recovering and he didn’t have a weapon but he rushed to think of how to protect the temple. At the very least, he needed to lead the demon away from the people. Hyde took a deep breath and forced all of his power into his legs. He stood and stumbled to the sliding doors leading the veranda. His legs were still weak and he couldn’t keep his footing for long.
Hyde fell over the rail and he landed on the ground roughly. He pushed himself up slightly and turned sharply to defend himself from the demon. It leapt towards him and Hyde coated his body in lightning. He couldn’t defend himself or use his wind tunnel but he could hurt it once it touched him.
“Get out of the way, Shit Rat!” Licht stood in front of Hyde and kicked the demon. Hyde was surprised to see him and he was only able to stare at him standing before him. Even after Kuro and Mahiru knelt next to him, he couldn’t take his eyes off the angel before him. He gave him a glare over his shoulder. “Did I say you can depend on us?”
“What?” Hyde was still confused by their sudden appearance.
“Licht is trying to tell you we’re here to help.” Mahiru told him and started to heal his hand. “You should listen to him.”

The Things You Said
"I'm sorry."
"Would you quit apologizin' already?"
"... sorry."
An irritated sigh. "Just forget about it, Kagome."
Her fingers were interlacing and then separating in a repetitive fidget. Her posture was all contrite awkwardness.
"It's just," she said, eyes cast down, "I really didn't mean it."
Inuyasha heaved another sigh. He didn't turn his head, his gaze seemingly fixed on the path to the village, but he watched her from the corner of his eye. "I've heard."
"I was grumpy about my exam results and—"
"I know."
"—I haven't been sleeping much lately because of that stupid test—trying to cram for it and all—"
"I know."
"—and you came to get me right after I found out I wouldn't be allowed to take a makeup test, and my grades have already gotten so low, and—"
He made a growling sound of impatience in his throat. "Fuck, I get it. Would you drop it?"
"—I just didn't realize how stressed out I was until I let it get the better of me, and I know none of this excuses the things I said, but I just want you to know it wasn't about you at all, it was my own stupid issues getting to me, and I'm really really really sorry, okay?"
There was a pause, in which she seemed to be catching her breath. Inuyasha kept looking ahead.
When he continued to say nothing, she ventured meekly, "Um, so...?"
He snorted. "Like I said, forget it already. Your yapping is way more annoying than the shit you're apologizing for."
She frowned, her hands still at their anxious fidget. "I... I really don't think you're a nuisance."
"Uh huh."
"And you have to know I didn't mean it when I said I wished I'd never fallen down the well."
His left ear flicked once.
"You know I'm glad that I met you... right?"
He snorted again.
"... because I am. Really glad. You know that... right Inuyasha?"
"All I know is that I'm hella tired of hearing about this."
There was a pause. Then the tiniest noise—like a strangled sigh—sounded from her throat, so small he would have missed it were he human. But he wasn't.
And he descended on it like a hawk on a wounded mouse.
"What was that, Ka-go-me?" He let his lip curl up in a sneer. "Didn't hear ya."
Her hands dropped to her sides, fingers stiff now, and she turned her face away. "Nothing."
"Hn," he said. "Interesting. 'Cuz it sounded like someone being a hypocrite. Must'a imagined it."
Her head whipped back around as her jaw dropped open. "What?!"
"Yeah, you're so sorry – until I'm not groveling at your feet like an apology from you is a gift from the gods. Then it's back to being my fault, huh?"
"I—you—how could—" She couldn't seem to find words appropriate enough to express her outrage. Her brows lowered over stormy grey eyes that blazed at him. "That's not it at all, you jerk!"
"Oh yeah? So you don't care more about making yourself feel better with these bullshit apologies? Sure seems like it to me."
She actually stopped walking, staring at him open-mouthed for a moment before that sound in her throat was back, only much louder and far more aggravated. "I can't believe you!"
"Right back at'cha, bitch."
Her eyes narrowed, gleaming like steel. "Just what is your problem?"
"Your bullshit apologies are my problem."
She made a pathetic human version of a growl. "I've been trying and trying to talk to you about this, and you keep snarling and blowing me off and pretending you aren't bothered when you obviously are! And now you're accusing me of insincerity?! That's rich, Inuyasha, even for you!"
He'd stopped walking when she had. Now, one eyebrow arching, he very deliberately stepped into her space. "Let's get one thing straight," he growled, squaring his shoulders and lifting his chin. "I ain't bothered. I don't give a shit about what you said, or what you think. And I especially don't give a rat's ass what you think about me. Got that?"
If she was intimidated by his height or aggressive stance—he was over a head taller than her, and standing so close that she was entirely in his shadow—she didn't show it. She simply rose up onto her tip toes and, never breaking eye contact, poked an index finger into his chest. "You're a lot of things, Inuyasha, but a good liar isn't one of them." He sputtered for a moment, swatting her finger away from his chest, but she ignored him and continued, "I know what I said bothered you. It would have bothered me too! It was mean, and uncalled for, and I'm sorry! And," she said loudly, cutting him off as he opened his mouth to say something scathing, "if you really want to know what I think of you, I'll tell you!"
He had inhaled sharply, gathering the air to tell her exactly where she could shove her "I knows"—but at her words, he stilled. He felt a quick and unwelcome stab of alarm.
He'd be better off never knowing what she really thought of him. The half-breed. The nuisance.
And yet he couldn't make himself bite out the "hell no" that was just on the tip of his tongue. As much as he didn't want to know—the things she'd said in the heat of anger like barbs digging into his brain—he also needed to know.
Slowly releasing the breath he'd been holding, he considered her. Though the scowl never left his face, it lost much of its hostility as he stared, expression morphing from a snarl to a clear, questioning 'Well?'
Her grey eyes were intent on his when she took a deep breath and said, "I think you are the most stubborn, hot-tempered, rude, defensive, impulsive person I've ever met, and half the time you drive me completely crazy!"
His alarm was quickly souring into chagrin, a knot forming in the pit of his stomach. Forcing a "Keh!" past his lips, he closed his eyes and started turning his head away. A gentle but firm tug on his hair had his eyes popping back open, gaze returning to hers.
She surprised the hell out of him when she smiled, wide and radiant. "But you're also the most reliable person I've ever met—I know without question that I can always count on you. Once you set your mind to do something, it'll definitely get done, heaven help whatever's in the way." The hand tugging on his hair gentled, fingertips beginning to stroke through silver strands instead of pulling on them. A soft caress.
"And you're the bravest person I've ever met," she said, "sometimes so brave it frightens me. There's no challenge you won't take on. I admire you for that, but I also worry for you."
The hand stroking his hair moved, palm smoothing over and then resting flat against the center of his chest. He was more stunned by that simple touch than by any demon attack. His heart rate kicked up, and he absently wondered if she could feel it.
The faintest pink tinted her cheeks when she continued, "And as much as you try to pretend otherwise, you're one of the kindest people I've ever met. You risk your life for others all the time. You help people even when it would be so much easier not to." Her smile turned vaguely sad. "And you're honorable. You try to do what's right even when it's hard."
Her other hand rose to join the first, resting against his chest in a barely-there pressure. Her voice dropped to a whisper. "Truth is, you drive me crazy in a lot of ways, but..." the blush in her cheeks brightened, "mostly in the good way."
His heart damn near stopped, then gave a series of hard thumps. He swallowed convulsively.
He could tell by both her steadily-deepening blush and the way she kept nervously wetting her lips that she was embarrassed; but she never stopped looking away from him, gaze serious and steady.
"I really am sorry, Inuyasha. Will you accept my apology?"
Faced with her raw sincerity, it was impossible to find words to respond. He struggled for a moment, tongue feeling heavy in his mouth. Then he sighed and slightly turned his head—anything to give him a reprieve from those eyes—one clawed finger rising to scratch nervously at his temple.
"Erm,” he mumbled. "Yeah. Uh. Sure. I guess." A pause, followed by a cleared throat. He peeked at her from the corner of his eye. "If... if that's what you really think then... why'd you say that stuff back there?"
She surprised him again when she glanced away, her fingers beginning to fiddle with the cloth of his suikan.
Now she really looked embarrassed. That got his full attention.
"Kagome?" he prompted after a long stretch of silence.
"Oh, well," she stammered, eyes flitting between his face and his chest, clearly no longer able to maintain her previous eye contact. "It's like I said before. I was really stressed and I just... took it out on you. That, and... I had sort of hoped..."
She fell silent. Her hesitance seemed telling, but he wasn't sure of what.
Damn him if he didn't want to find out.
Before he could think better of it, he gripped her hands—still resting against his chest—with both of his, and dropped his head so that his eyes were more level with hers. "You hoped...?"
Her eyes darted to his, then down to where his hands held hers, then slowly drifted back up.
"I, um..." Her whole face was reddening, but at least she could look at him again. "When you came to my time, I had hoped that... you were there to see me. You know, just because. So when you said you'd come to bring me back for shard hunting, I..."
She didn't finish, but she didn't need to. The cogs had started turning and he could figure out the rest.
She'd gotten so mad because she was disappointed. She'd missed him.
She'd wanted to see him.
Him. The half-breed.
He didn't realize he was grinning until her lips formed a pouting moue and she grumbled, "Jeez, Inuyasha, it's not that big of a deal."
His grin widened until a fang poked out over his lip. "You know," he said, stepping in even closer, "you keep getting redder and you might burst into flame."
"Inuyasha!"
She tried to pull her hands away, but he held on. Tugged her a little closer, until her forearms rested against his chest too.
"So you missed me, huh?"
Her pout was part glower by now. She pressed her lips together tight, refusing to speak.
He snickered. "Too late to take it back now."
"Watch me, dog-boy."
Slowly, gauging her reaction, he dropped his head until his forehead pressed against hers. Her hair, soft and sweet-smelling, floated against one of his cheeks. He heard her heart beating rapidly. Her fingers clutched his suikan and her hands, held so tightly in his, were warm.
He closed his eyes. Savored.
"Kagome?"
"Yeah?"
"... you drive me crazy, too."
A/N: Look, I just wanted to write Inuyasha and Kagome fighting and then making up, okay? It’s my favorite.
I’ve been rereading parts of the manga, and it struck me that Inuyasha is actually very sensitive to what Kagome says. Like, as much as he tries to act gruff and tough, a single word from her can take him down when a horde of demons couldn’t. (Example 1, example 2.) That’s basically what inspired this sappy mess.
