Hi! I love your analysis and i want to know your opinion about he tian and jian yi jealous How did you think they gonna react if they see xixi and Mo with others o maybe if xixi and Mo have a good friendship, did you imagine he tian and jian yi watching them jealous?
UPDATED: added the Jian Yi bit I missed.
Gosh, you guys make me embarrassed lol. I honestly never expected these kinds of posts to get positive feedback. But I’m very excited that you enjoy reading it so thank you so much!
Back to your question. Firstly, as preamble, I’d like to state that I do not consider jealousy an entirely healthy sort of reaction nor do I endorse it in any way. A little jealousy is natural, but extreme jealous outbursts are truly unbecoming, nor do I want to romanticize them in any way.
(This is gonna be long, so better grab a chair).
Now when it comes to He Tian, I truly believe that feeling jealous will be a new and entirely unnerving experience to him. Looking back at his past experiences and childhood traumas, it’s quite obvious that he’s somewhat disconnected and detached from his own feelings. This is most evident in the emptiness that fills his life: he has no real passion (save for basketball maybe), no close relationships (until he meets MGS and co, and still he’s not open about himself yet), no deep ties to his family, and he practically stripped himself bare of any personal possessions. Hell, with all the money he has, his apartment is empty and all his stuff fits nicely in just a couple of cardboard boxes. So bottom line, He Tian isn’t used to getting attached to things or people, consciously or subconsciously he ends up avoiding it. That, of course, can be traced back to the puppy incident which basically splits itself into three points: 1) the puppy he came to love and care was gruesomely taken away from him 2) his brother, the person who He Tian trusted the most, betrayed him 3) He Tian was weak, so he had to entrust something he loved into another person’s care, and thus it ended up in a disaster, because he couldn’t protect the puppy himself.
Now that he is becoming more and more attached to MGS, I’m pretty sure that some of his deep-rooted fears will intensify, particularly the ones that relate to his past inability to protect something he cherished. On the other hand, He Tian clearly wishes Mo well. It’s evident from the way he went out of his way to find him a well-paying job at the photography studio, and even tried to compliment Mo on being industrious and finally looking like somebody. I do believe that He Tian is somewhat familiar with Mo’s reputation, at very least he probably heard the rumours and we know for sure that he had been checking the detention board. So he probably knows that in fact, MGS doesn’t have that many friendships outside his henchmen. With that said, I believe a part of He Tian would want to be supportive of Mo building healthy connections with other people.
And that’s where He Tian’s inner conflict will come into the light because he’ll be faced with his deep-running internalized fears that he may not rationally understand battling his desire to be supportive and selfless. Considering that He Tian’s upbringing probably caused him to shut off his own emotions, this is going to be very hard for him. The novelty of it, the inner turmoil of conflicting feelings, his inability to adequately process and express his emotions – all of it will likely put a strain on He Tian. While I don’t see him throwing a jealousy fit (he just doesn’t seem like the type, besides as I mentioned, he ultimately wants to be good for MGS even if he doesn’t always know how), I could see him getting crabby to the point Mo notices and wonders wtf is going on. Or, more likely, I could see him becoming extra-clingy, invading Mo’s personal space or y’know, going all “excuse me, let me borrow Little Mo for a sec”. What I do not see is He Tian being downright nasty about it and fending off anyone who comes into close vicinity of Mo. Absolutely not.
As for ZZX, I believe that as of right now he’s taking Jian Yi a little bit for granted, however, once Jian Yi gets kidnapped, his attitude will change. We know that ZZX is somewhat annoyed by Jian Yi’s antics. It just happens that our lovely airhead fits the bill of a boy who cried wolves. OX scattered these moments throughout the narrative, like when Jian Yi does that careless hide-and-seek thing making ZZX worry for nothing. So I expect that as the story goes on, ZZX will be taking him with a grain of salt.
Tumblr media
Obviously, ZZX worries for him. And I think we’ve noticed something like distrust mixed with maybe some airs of disapproval when Brother Qiu gave Jian Yi a lift on his bike. The face that ZZX makes doesn’t look like one that endorsed Jian Yi being so careless around a stranger.
Tumblr media
There’s also a strip from the earlier short comic series (it takes place after Jian Yi reappears), where a drunk older Jian Yi apparently ends up leaning against a very imposing stranger, to ZZX dismay at that. ZZX, who had previously pushed Jian Yi off, now quickly rectifies himself and tugs Jian Yi away from another dude. He’s silent but yeah, you can see it written all over his face: ZZX does not approve Jian Yi hanging around older men, haha.
Tumblr media
Anyway, back to my original point. I think that post Jian Yi’s return, ZZX gonna treat him with greater care, precisely because he had lost him once. Those feelings of loss and inability to prevent it will probably cause ZZX to act low-key possessive like he did in that strip. Sure, he’s worried about his safety, but I cannot help but feel that ZZX feels a bit inadequate when he sees Jian Yi get close to someone older… and bigger? If we go waaaay back to the first kidnapping attempt, we see that in the aftermath ZZX feels down allegedly because he wants to grow up and become strong in order to protect Jian Yi. Perhaps that is why he appears slightly pissed when Jian Yi ends up close with someone ZZX can’t take on?
Tumblr media
As for ZZX and Momo… well, I just don’t see them giving off couple vibes. They are probably gonna spend their time in rather comfortable silence. For Momo ZZX is someone who doesn’t annoy him with endless chitchat, and for ZZX Momo is someone who doesn’t indulge in silly ideas. So no, I don’t imagine them spending time next to each other would somehow bother Jian Yi or He Tian. It’s just not that type of bond.
EDIT
Apologies to the anon who asked the question. I seem to have misread it a bit. I usually answer these things when I’m back from work and by the end of the day, I’m thoroughly braindead and confusing 3’s for 8’s, lol. Again, my apologies.
So the question was actually about how would Jian Yi react to seeing ZZX with other people, not the other way around.
I do see Jian Yi as someone prone to jealousy. In fact, I think we can safely assume that Jian Yi displays some signs of anxious attachment style. Attachment styles are, by and large, the behavioural patterns that define our habits of building and maintaining long-term and short-term relationships. Anxious attachment forms in children when the parental figure vacillates between being there for them (caring, feeding, being emotionally supportive, etc) and being either distant/absent, or insensitive and otherwise not providing them with attention and care. The child thus undergoes greater levels of distress, because the parent is unpredictable, and the child doesn’t understand what to expect and whether they will be cared for or left on their own. As they grow up, they start displaying such behaviours as being clingy or smothering, since they subconsciously believe that the only way for them to survive is to cling close to their attachment figure, often both in the emotional and physical sense of it.
Now from what we know of Jian Yi, his father was absent from his life, while his mother seems to be frequently missing. We have seen tell ZZX that some auntie is picking him after kindergarten. Some flashbacks also show him being lonely and apparently alone at home. There’s also a scene where a young Jian Yi is weeping and coming up with an idea that “mother doesn’t want him anymore”, which are also quite telling.
From the narrative, we learn that it is ZZX who becomes a significant attachment figure to Jian Yi. Hell, during the kidnapping, Jian Yi isn’t thinking about seeing his mom again, he’s thinking about ZZX. Apart from clinginess, people with an anxious attachment style may indulge themselves in constantly testing whether their partner worries about them. Now I’m not saying that Jian Yi is manipulative in any way or that he plays games with ZZX, however, he does often want his attention/approval, like when he does that pounce thing or when he half-heartedly tries to play hide-and-seek in an inopportune moment. Also, quite clearly Jian Yi doesn’t like being separated from his boyfriend, lol.
Typically, jealousy in people with anxious attachment manifests itself from their own deep-running insecurities. Insecurity makes people become very critical about themselves, so they may often have these lines of thinking: “you are so desperate/needy/selfish, of course, he/she will be annoyed by you” and thus they may often feel unfulfilled because they tend to suppress their need for affection. These suppressed feelings, in turn, may result in short anger outbursts and some distrustful or controlling behaviour. We have seen bits of both when Jian Yi had to deal with a love-letter from a girl who had a crush on ZZX (what’s her name again?).
How Jian Yi would behave if he became jealous: likely he’ll become emotionally withdrawn due to deep-seated insecurities, might fluctuate between emotional outbursts and clinginess. Will he be nasty to the other person? No, not very likely. However, he did display the so-called behavioural jealousy (the set of defensive measures against the perceived threat of a romantic rival): he agreed to help the girl deliver the love-letter on condition that she’ll never approach ZZX again.
So yes, I do see him being inclined to some jealous behaviours, but again not towards Momo x ZZX. As I said, there isn’t anything remotely romantic about them spending time together.

Skype Questions for 31/07/2019 wk3
Skype Interview Questions for Annie from Tearfund. This was the first communications interview where we could understand what Annie envisioned, and could answer some valid questions to go towards the project. I met up with Simone and Lauren who we are now working closely with. Below are some questions that were planned on bringing up into conversation:
What outcome would you like to see from us working with you?
Are there any aspects in particular that you would like us to focus on when designing promotional material for TearFund?
You have said that you would like to target a younger and wider audience; what do you think of creating a fun visual medium such as an app, lookbook, or subscription media page to engage the public more and better illustrate the key issues TearFund what people to know?
What do you want people to know about TearFund?
Why do you think there have been bad press regarding the fashion report?
What feedback have you received that can better the reputation of the report?
What have you found to be your most successful platform in terms of getting your message across (so far)?
In the Skype meeting Annie gave us plenty of information, and a lot of my questions were answered pretty quickly. The two other communicators prompted more information with their questions. This first meeting was helpful and gave us better insight before heading to class.
Interview with Annie: 20 minute duration (simplified transcript from voice recording)
We wanted to know more background and information about Tearfund?
Basically, as I explained in the presentation, Tearfund is an organisation with development work in countries which is kind of like our prime target of work. Ethical fashion guide sits quite outside of it but like we still see it as an important form of work in terms of advocacy. And probably the most touchpoint of that is that we are very much into looking after the worker and thats kind of how it ties into all of other work, and its that we acknowledge that ya know workers in the fashion industry are often exploited: they don’t have many rights, they are treated pretty badly, and so it’s not so dissimilar to all the other work we do.
And so the other side of that we are wanting to achieve in New Zealand is that creating something that gets into the consumers hands that helps them make better choices when they are purchasing and  informs them a bit better. So i guess thats like probably the most important part for us. And so the ethical fashion guide is a totally complicated one and Jennifer and I have talked about this before, lots of  people have different opinions on what or if they think its good or if they think its bad, what they think it should be doing, or if they think it does well. And yeah, lots of feedback we have gotten recently is the environmental side of the report. So historically the report was designed to look at worker empowerment which is the most heavily weighted section in the survey. The main bit of that is to check of is what the company is doing to look after the people, and how they are doing it and basically how robust are they. So up until last year it really focused on like workers but sort of this year we are introducing the environmental section and i think as kiwis, the  environment is something that we care about a lot. Obviously without an environment we wont be able to survive, so although its not directly connected to people in some ways its totally connected to us as you guys probably know.
A lot of feedback we got this year is that companies and people, like through press or supporters coming to us saying: we like what you're doing but we think you failed to address some of the really big pieces to do with sustainability and the environment. Our environmental section at this stage addresses things like water use, chemical testing, I can send you a it of a run down of what the questionnaire asks which might be quite helpful.
But it doesn’t really go into things like slow fashion vs fast fashion, and evaluating impact beyond like purchase, the volume of something. we often get asked “how does zara get such a good grade? How are they compared to someone like Kowtow?”  Longevity of garments, circular relationships, that sort of thing. It’s not like we don’t want to ask those kinds of questions, also, something interesting for you guys: Tear Fund New Zealand is a partner with another organisation in Australia called Baptist World Aid. They own the company, they make all of the big decisions. We try to give our two cents as much as possible to influence them. But at the end of the day, it’s their project so we hope that all of this research that are doing will be able to go towards something really cool in that space. Yeah thats just kind of a disclaimers for you guys.
What was the name of that organisation?
Baptist World Aid. So you will sometimes see it as BWA. I think it would be cool for you guys to help us think about ways in which we can measure that sort of environmental sustainability piece. We all know that these things should be being addressed. But we are not sure of the metrics we can use, cause theres almost nothing concrete in terms of data that you can acquire to tell us, to give us the stats on these things right. Beyond a brands power, say like when you purchase a garment, you know maybe like how many times you've washed something or how long you've had it in your wardrobe for but like there is no central data base to collect all that. So it would be really cool if you guys could have a think about that. Maybe see what else is out there in terms of metrics and research.
I guess the other side of the thing is that the Ethical Fashion Report, as I was saying earlier, is something  that is received really well in New Zealand. but it also gets a lot of critical media attention. I think a lot of that is a lot of people not understanding how it actually works. and the purpose of it. Cause we have got the guide, and we have got the report; and hardly anyone would read the report and try to understand the bigger picture of it. So maybe, I'm sure if you guys have read the report, and i know its a really chunky document, so apologies in advance. but it might be helpful for you guys to take bit of a deep dive into that. Just to gain a really good understanding of it. Any questions so far?
No.. I think you’re covering it so well! No, you’re answering all of our questions already! It’s good.
Well yeah, so I reckon that those two main pieces and maybe to go into the positive chatter thing a bit. I mean with you guys being design students, you have such unique way of thinking, it would be cool to engage that sort of thinking to promote what we do because you know we’ve been promoting through articles and interviews sort of thing but its not necessarily promoted - other than the design field, you know in a other creative way. And possibly thats what it needs to gain bit of traction and become something really positive. Looking at it through a different lens through design. So that would be really interesting to see you guys come up with anything to do with that.
With that, with the positiveness, did you mind if we showed people what fast fashion is actually kind of like? or do you want us to stay strictly positive?
It’s totally up to you, but I don't see any harm with showing like a reality of it. Because i think people want to change things once they’ve seen kind of the harsh side of it. I think  if you balance it with a positive narrative, at the end  that sort of like inspires people, its yeah it balances each other out. So yeah I'm totally open to you guys revealing the harsher side behind it as well.
What is your biggest audience? Who should we be targeting?
Theres quite a few different audiences, so say for the purpose of the guide, essentially Tear Fund has our supporters who support our other causes, maybe they sponsor a child or are interested in the other work that we do. so thats sort of like one group and they’re, honestly about 50+. But that’s almost not the main key target of the Ethical Fashion Guide. I reckon the ethical fashion guide probably targets people maybe from 15 to - lets go with 35. That’ll be our main braces to target just because they are the groups that are like really keen to get involved in the space, they care about it. They are probably more active on social media and stuff. Is that too broad?
No that’s good.
So you said active on social media, are you looking at us to create something that is for social media?
Well i guess, I mean we don't have a massive presence on social media, other than when we do the launch. Cause we have tear fund new zealand Instagram and Facebook page, and tear fund sees that as a strategic move to to keep sort of like all our pages in one. so probably wouldn’t be looking to create a separate account, and then put like and put the content stuff through that. but i reckon its definitkey something - its a story we should be telling on social media through our account. at all times of the year, not just through, at the peak time when we are releasing the report essentially. if that could be part of what yo guys do, great. if you wanna steer away from social media and make it more like guerrilla marketing, cool as well. whatever you wanna do.
So what kind of promotional stuff do you do now? is it just the, like you said, the one post on social media currently?
Yeah so its kind of like, leading up to it and then at the time of the launch we will do lots of social media stuff. we will sort of try and do little bits and bob throughout the year, like through speaking at schools and churches. or just kind of getting the word out there by like seeking engagements. we do emails each month to our supporter database. which basically people who have signed up to the ethical fashion guide, we  then say like do you want to be taken on an ethical fashion journey? and so they either join or if they have been involved in the emails for a year, then they get moved to the advanced. so those are basically just emails that go out helping people to live more ethically and sustainably. so that promotes the ethical fashion guide through that channel as well. and then basically just around the time of the launch of the guide and report, we will do lots of media interviews and try and generate a lot of chatter around that time. id say thats probably the peak of our engagement. then it kind of drops off.
With your process of working with the companies to find out what, what kind of is your process working with the companies to find out their grade?
so, the engagement process starts off with a bunch of companies who we have worked with before. and we say “hey the survey is coming around again, just checking if you want to participate?” and usually they will say yes, cool send us the survey we will get started. So that will be older companies and then we will have new companies that we introduce, basically we see maybe if theres a gap in the market, maybe we have only got one baby wear company, and we want 4 so we will add a few more to that category or something like that. so its new people that we want to include, we will send them a letter saying “you have been included in the ethical fashion guide, there is two streams you can go down, either we can collaborate and we will go through a process of filling out the survey together - there will be two check points and then final submission” so basically we explain the engagement process and then we say  “if you choose not to participate, we will still assess you on public available information. let us know what you want to do.” we often hear back from them saying “we want to know more about it” and thats where we would have a company meeting. we basically try to be a collaborative as possible because  of so much that we do can be easily misconstrued - beavsue it seems like a scary thing right? to get a letter being like you're gonna be assessed. but we want it to be way more collaborative than that and not a freaky thing. we will sit down with people and explain exactly how it works. when someone chooses to participate, we have countless meetings with them, countless phone calls, i will sit down and explain question by question, tell them exactly what they need to submit. so the engagement process is really collaborative.
so they fill out the survey, which has 5 sections that you will know. Policies, traceability and transparency, auditing and supplier relationships, worker empowerment and environmental management. so they are assessed on all 5 sections. the 5 sections have different weightings so both policies and the environment are weighted at 10%. auditing and supplier relationships and traceability and transparency is 20%. and then worker empowerment is the bigger section at 30%.
what a company does, is that go through the survey, they answer either yes or no, depending on what the question asked, a lot of the time with the more heavily weighted sections, because they are worth more, we require quite a bit more evidence. so we ask them to provide things such as order reports, for example there will be a question in there that is saying “do you pay living wage?”  and we will need a payslip from one of the factories to give evidence that they actually do.
although that it is a self reporting tool that companies fill out themselves with help of us, its not something that they can just sit and that and then get an easy grade for cause they like ticked the box. they have to do a lot more work beyond just saying they are doing what they are doing. basically after all that, and once we are happy with their answers, there is final submission. they submit, we mark it, and then give it a grade. basically the grade are just a percentage of the score that they got based on the grading template. thats basically it for them.
with the non -responsive companies, we just dig around for what information we can find that publicly available - so reports on their website, maybe like a code of conduct on their website, that sort of thing. when you will see an F, thats basically someone has little or nothing, and we can’t find anything else so we just give them a grade like that.

VIXX What Would Attract Them
Tumblr media
anon asked:  Can I have the ‘what would attract them’ request but for vixx ?? Love u~~😆😘😘
A/N: Love you too honey, I hope you enjoy. ^^
Other Versions: 2PM   B.A.P   CNBLUE
Attraction is a mysterious thing. We all may have our types but sometimes we meet an individual outside those parameters whose existence strikes us like lightening. So who really knows, right? ^_~
N – Easy going/Classy/Intelligent – Hakyeon is caught between two worlds: the never ending rush of his job and complete standstill when he rests. Someone low key would be very soothing for him when things seem to be going too fast. The rare times he can relax he’d want someone content to chill with him without feeling like he has to entertain them. Also he takes care in his appearance and style even in casual attire. If you look like a slob next to him, he probably wouldn’t leave the house until you changed. Not that you always have to be dressed up. A nice shirt and jeans is fine, but you have to look put together. And at the end of the day he’d love to come home and have an in-depth conversation about a book he’s reading or the industry people he’s met through the day. Not gossiping so much, more like trying to figure out their motivations.
Leo – Parental/Considerate/Introvert or Ambivert – Kids, kids, kids. This guy is crazy about kids so the first thing that would draw him to someone is their parental instincts. Are they good at interacting with kids and think of their well being? Do they smile wistfully when children are around? Next would be someone very polite and thoughtful of those around them. To see that trait in a potential partner would be quite charming to him. Also he wouldn’t mind if his partner was more outgoing than himself, but if they were completely extroverted and wanted him to go to gatherings or go out to meet people all the time it’d be a no go. Opposites may attract but not when it pulls someone out of their comfort zone.
Ken – Cute/Open/Funny – I really think he’d be attracted to someone with a dainty personality and full of aegyo. But not someone who does it consciously like himself. More of a natural ‘they don’t even know they’re doing it’ kind. A person he’d just want to put in his pocket and carry around if he could. Also someone who was closed off, who made it difficult for him to interact with them would be anathema. He’s great with people but it’d get pretty exhausting after a while if he did all the work emotionally or conversationally. We all know he’s got a great sense of humor, and he’d definitely want to be the ‘funny boyfriend’. But if they were able to make him laugh in return he’d be in love. Jaehwan would be drawn to a relationship filled with laughter.
Ravi – Independent/Kind/Unconventional – The man loves to work and needs to be left alone to do so. If you don’t have your own hobbies and life to keep yourself busy it’d seriously grate on his nerves if you were asking for attention all the time. If he wasn’t being constantly pestered he’d long for his partner all the more and actually be with them mentally when together instead of thinking about work. Seeing someone who was generous and put others before themselves would make him weak. He’d feel their heart was precious and would bring out his protective side. Honestly he’d be so smitten, he wouldn’t have a chance. Wonsik also has a mind of his own and would appreciate the same in another person. Someone who lived their life how they wanted would be a big turn on.
Hongbin – Supportive/Clingy/Honest – Bean likes to try his hand at a lot of things and works very hard to learn them. If he had someone in his corner who cheered him on he’d appreciate that so much. It’d make him feel very loved. He’s also one that needs steady reassurance that he’s important in someone’s life. For himself, not just for his looks or fame. And he’s a lonely type who wants to share many couple’s activities with his loved one and be with them whenever possible. So a person who was affectionate or asked to be with him all the time would reaffirm their sincerity in his mind. Hand in hand with that is once he’s been lied to all of that hard earned trust would be down the drain. Things would never be the same after that, and that’s if he even decided to stay in the relationship.
Hyuk – Demure/Accepting/Sense of humor – Someone that made him feel in charge of the relationship would be extremely appealing to him. Not that he’d be a demanding ogre of a boyfriend, but he’d want to be the one relied upon in the pair. And as such he has a strong personality so trying to change that wouldn’t get a person very far in a relationship with him. He’d figure if they wanted him to be different they didn’t love him for himself so they might as well not be together. Having a sense of humor would be attractive to him but also necessary for survival for his partner. They’d have to endure pranks and smart ass comments. But mostly if they could give him a taste of his own medicine it’d be game over for his heart.

When you see a legal advisor embroiled in ongoing legal battles, you can’t help but wonder…
If they’re the real deal, why can’t they defend themselves?
But LegalShield may finally have their act together. The question now is whether you can make any money with this MLM.
LegalShield was once a big, bad, publicly-traded company with a network marketing opportunity on the New York Stock Exchange…until they went private faster than a celebrity in rehab.
Judging from some of their past scandals and legal troubles, going private was definitely a smart move. But are they worth joining? We’ll let you decide.
FAQ
1. What does LegalShield sell? LegalShield gives access to affordable legal coverage to its members, no matter how traumatic or trivial the situation. They’re the No. 1 subscription-based provider of legal plans to families and small businesses across the U.S. and Canada.
2. What are LegalShield’s most popular products? LegalShield’s Personal Legal Plan costs about the same as a dinner out ($24.95/month) and gives you coverage for you, your spouse or partner, and your children. Included with your membership are advice, letters/phone calls on your behalf, legal document review, standard will preparation, 24/7 emergency assistance, and trial defense services. Another popular service is ID Shield, which protects your identity, including customized alerts, complete identity monitoring, credit scores, and unlimited consultation.
3. How much does it cost to join LegalShield? It costs $99 plus any applicable state licensing fees to become a LegalShield associate. This gives you an Associate Start-Up Kit with brochures and applications so you can begin your business right away.
4. Is LegalShield a scam? No, LegalShield is a legitimate business with 1.7 million members in 50 states and 4 provinces. They have provider law firms across the United States and Canada, so the legal support you get comes from a lawyer who’s well acquainted with your local laws and regulations. What does feel scammy is the lack of full disclosure about becoming an Associate and how much you can earn. If it’s such a great opportunity, why aren’t they more forthcoming with information about how to join?
5. What is LegalShield’s BBB rating? A+
6. How long has LegalShield been in business? Since 1972
7. What is LegalShield’s revenue? $457 million
8. How many LegalShield distributors are there? 287,812
9. What lawsuits have been filed? In 2001, Wyoming came down on Pre-Paid Legal Services (which was LegalShield’s original name) for making income representations that were prohibited by Wyoming law. [1] The SEC also required them to stop counting commissions as assets instead of expenses. Complying with their ruling essentially cut their reported earnings by more than half. [2] In 2005, LegalShield lost a case related to deceptive advertising and fraud and paid $9.9 million in punitive damages. [3] In 2007, the FTC began investigating their marketing, saying it was misleading. Fortunately for LegalShield, in 2010 the investigation ended without any action. [4] In 2018, LC Technology International filed a proposed class action against Harvard Risk Management and LegalShield for sending unlawful, unsolicited fax messages as part of a pyramid sales scheme. [5]
10. Comparable companies: Market America, Life Leadership, Primerica
So should you join LegalShield?
I’m not a hater of the company at all, there’s definitely a market for legal advice and resources. But as far as passive income opportunities go, there are better options out there.
Click here for my #1 recommendation
Either way, here’s the full review on LegalShield.
Overview
LegalShield was founded in 1972 under the name Sportsman’s Motor Club in Ada, Oklahoma. A couple of years later, they changed their name to Pre-Paid Legal and went public, selling its shares on the New York Stock Exchange.
In 2011, the company was acquired by MidOcean Partners, a private equity firm worth $3.5 billion, for $650 million. They then went private and changed their name to LegalShield. In 2011, before they went private, they were raking in an annual revenue of $461 million. [6]
Back in 2001, they were hit twice by the law – first by the state of Wyoming for misrepresenting distributor earnings, and again by the SEC for counting commissions as assets to inflate their stock prices. They also faced legal troubles in Missouri that year. [7]
In 2009, they were subpoenaed by the SEC for various documents which were never sent over to the SEC despite multiple demands. After that, the FTC filed a complaint against LegalShield for multiple violations, including misleading representations. [8]
Jeff Bell is LegalShield’s new CEO, and this guy is no joke.
Bell got his MBA from none other than the Wharton School of Business back in 1989. He’s worked in key positions at Ford Motors, Chrysler, NBCUniversal, Advertising Age, where he won them their first-ever Online Marketer of the Year award in 2005, and Microsoft, where he oversaw the launch of Halo 3, among other major releases, as Vice President of Global. [9, 10]
He’s got decades of experience in marketing and advertising at some of the world’s biggest corporations, and he was named as LegalShield’s new leader in 2014. [11]
Hopefully, he can replicate his success in the world of multi-level marketing. This will be his first MLM, but maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe his credentials can fend off the FTC.
So maybe he can turn their rep around. However, in March of 2016, he made the decision to leave the Direct Selling Association, the regulatory body that pretty much ensures that an MLM is at least semi-legit (see the full MLM rankings here).
Bell claims their decision to leave the DSA is because the DSA actually isn’t enforcing its own Code of Ethics against other MLMs who are clearly breaking it, and thus is weakening the direct selling industry as a whole. Wouldn’t be the first time. [12]
As of January 2016, LegalShield membership began a steady increase, hitting 1,612,183 members before the end of the year. Now, they’re over 1.7 million members. Smells like a comeback.
How much does LegalShield cost?
At the time of writing this, it costs $99 for a New Associate Start-Up Kit, which includes online training, materials, sponsor support, a back office, and a few other perks.
Products
LegalShield sells legal services, in case their name didn’t tip you off. They claim to offer direct and affordable access to law firms.
They have a network of almost 7,000 independent attorneys throughout the United States and Canada who offer these services. For your monthly membership fee, which varies by state but usually comes out to just under $25/month, you get:
Legal Advice: If you ever need advice or consultation from a legal representative, you always have one at your service.
Legal Representation: In the case that you should need legal representation, you have their independent attorneys at your disposal.
Automotive Defense: Accident defense and moving violation assistance.
Familial and IRS Legal Services: This covers everything from divorce and name changes to IRS audits.
Considering legal advice can cost hundreds, and representation from an attorney can cost anywhere from $150-$500 per hour, it’s not a bad deal.
The company also now sells identity theft protection services starting at $9.95/month. The basic plan covers you and a spouse, and includes:
Credit report and credit score analysis
Credit restoration
Unlimited ID theft consultations
Minor protection
Credit monitoring and alerts
Honestly, if you have even a halfway decent bank or own a credit card, you probably already have access to all of these services for free.
Compensation Plan
You’re selling a monthly membership, and when you get a new customer, LegalShield pays you an advance for a year’s worth of that customer’s membership. Sounds great, right? Yeah, until that customer decides to cancel, and you have to pay back a huge chunk of that advance.
The compensation plan is nowhere to be found on their website, and the information you can find is very vague. It doesn’t list any specific commission rates.
There are four ways to earn:
Personal Sales
You make a percentage on each membership you sell, which varies by rank. This is roughly what you can make, according to rank:
Junior Associate: Up to 50%
Associate: Up to $75 on each sale
Senior Associate: Up to $100 on each sale
Manager: Up to $125 on each sale
Director: Up to $150 on each sale
Executive Director: Up to $182.50 on each sale
These numbers look generous, but remember, they are advances on 12 months of membership payments. Also, it’s very, very difficult to move up even past Junior Associate, let alone all the way to director levels.
Build a Team
Team commissions are offered in the form of bonuses for every membership they sell. Exact numbers are not specified.
Residual Income
After a membership that you’ve sold lasts a year, you make a monthly commission on each month they stay active. Whether or not this commission is the same as before isn’t stated, but this is basically number one rehashed.
Performance Club
Each time you sell memberships and recruit new associates, you earn points. If you earn enough (fat chance), you can start earning cash bonuses and prizes.
Recap
The company is not without their scandals. They’ve got a pretty colorful history, to say the least.
However, it seems that the worst might be over for them. They’ve survived dozens of legal battles, and since going private, they’ve only had one claim made against them. (It looks pretty frivolous; they’ll probably pull it out.) On top of that, they’re being run by a rock star CEO, and so far, he’s doing good things for the company.
That being said, the commission plan is vague, at best. It’s really not clear how much money you’d make as an associate. One thing that is clear – you’re probably not getting rich here.

LegalShield: Are their legal services really legal? [Review]

Why FCP X? A Producer’s POV – Feature Film: Daisy Winters
My entire professional life has been ‘to protect the money.’ FCP X is a fabulous cost-saving option and because we are working with original media, there is no sacrifice in quality. I simply cannot dismiss it.
Deborah Moore – Partner / President, Production
Inner Primary Entertainment
ipefilms.com
Deborah Moore is a highly experienced producer on both the creative and financial sides of the industry.
She began two decades ago at New Line Cinema and helped create a new division intended to compete with the major studios. Nine years later, that humble division had become a Hollywood powerhouse and turned out more than fifty films, including Above the Rim, The Mask, and Don Juan de Marco starring Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp. She is credited with overseeing many of the company’s successful franchises, such as the Nightmare on Elm Street, Critters, House Party, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I had the pleasure of picking her brain about Daisy Winters, her recent project.
Although I didn’t know it by name, I had already heard about the film. A good friend introduced me to Deborah because she was looking for a Final Cut X editor and, as it happened, another friend, Darren Roark, was wrangling the cutting room. Darren and I had been exchanging workflow ideas on the project.
I have written a lot about Final Cut Pro X: workflow, opinion, evangelist and a few tweets. But one thing I don’t have the experience to speak about is the financial facts of how FCP X will impact the bottom line of a production. Daisy Winters is an independent feature film, and in the world of indie films, every penny counts. Deborah was kind enough to answer all of my questions about this aspect of FCP X.
MM: Can you detail your motivation for choosing Final Cut Pro X? You mentioned financial considerations.
DM: I was not familiar with FCP X. Avid was the system used on most of the shows I have done. I came onto Daisy Winters and had to revamp the budget, so I started looking at what had been originally budgeted. This was when I first started talking to Darren [Roark] about his work-flow process for the film. I was impressed at how simple it was to go from the camera to the editing suite so that the editor could start working. More than that, I was impressed with the cost savings: FCP X was so inexpensive, particularly when I considered what the system was able to save me as far as deliverables. Honestly, had it not been for the FCP X savings, the movie Daisy Winters would have sacrificed in ways that would have been detrimental to the film. I was ecstatic at how much we saved going this route.
MM: What were your impressions when Darren presented the post pipeline to you?
DM: The pipeline was seamless and simple. The key, of course, is having someone who knows what he or she is doing label everything appropriately to keep track of the elements. That is true of any process, of course, but it is even more important these days without the enforced discipline of shooting on film and the inherent costs of stock, processing, and printing. There is a lot more footage than there once was, so it becomes even more important to track it well.
Working with original RED media and Broadcast WAV files in Final Cut allowed us to bypass the traditional lab process and deliver what was called the ‘most seamless audio turnovers ever’ by our mixer.
Darren Roark – Post Supervisor / Assistant Editor
MM: Can you detail your experience with your contacts at Runway Post and their advice?
DM: I love Runway and have always enjoyed working with them. They are an Avid house primarily, but they were more than willing to work with us and adjust their bid to accommodate all of the things Darren could deliver himself versus having the post house do it. Kit Lubold is especially knowledgeable and laid out many of the details for the process to run smoothly.
Runway did not come on until later in the shoot, in the future, I will bring them onboard during prep to join editorial, the lab, the camera team, and the DIT so everyone is aware of the work-flow process before shooting begins.
Kit at Runway was aware of the capabilities of FCP X and supported us 100%.
Darren Roark – Post Supervisor / Assistant Editor
MM: Did your director have an opinion on editing systems?
DM: We had a first-time director. Based on the cost savings and the fact that the editor liked the system, the director was happy to go with FCP X. The only issue we had was in finding a second editor to come in and make changes when our original editor had to move on to her next job. We had a really difficult time finding someone with FCP X experience.
MM: You mentioned both Pre-Vis and DIT being familiar with FCP X. What can you tell me about your conversations with them?
DM: I am a huge fan of prep, prep, and more prep—as much as possible. I wish I could pre-vis every movie—even crudely—just to work out sequences and pacing. It forces you to analyze the scope of the shots and isolate that which is essential.
Part of my bag of tricks is working with a Special EFX/VFX expert, Peter Chesney, who has worked on major films, including seven Coen Brothers films. He kept every story board created by J. Todd Anderson for No Country for Old Men. These were prepared well in advance of shooting. You can look at any story board sequence and compare it to the actual sequence in the film, and they will be virtually identical. Oh, and yes: The Coen brothers won Academy Awards for that film for Best Picture and Best Directing. There is no better validation in my book for pre-planning than that.
FCP X allows you to do your own inexpensive pre-vis—even if it is with a little camcorder footage interspersed with story boards. For his own process of working through a scene, Peter does amazing things with FCP X for just about every film he is on. That is what I love about FCP X: It is financially accessible to everyone and can be used by anyone willing to put in the effort to learn how to use it. I have spoken to a number of DIT’s and the ones familiar with FCP X are huge fans.
The efficiency of the Final Cut Pro X work-flow bought us more than two weeks of creative time.
Darren Roark – Post Supervisor / Assistant Editor
MM: From a financing perspective, what benefits can you predict on future projects that are already in the works using FCP X?
DM: These days, any below-the-line budget is squeezed, whether or not you are working on a $1 million, a $10 million, or a $40 million budget. The mandate is always to cut production costs to fit the ever-shrinking bottom line. This is not because studios or producers are arbitrarily wanting to cut budgets: It is truly a function of the marketplace and what number reflects the best mitigated risk that can be achieved. So the challenge is delivering a project with as much money on the screen as possible given the confines of the budget parameters. FCP X is so flexible, and cost-effective that it allows an editor and director to play with the project without the huge investment of attendant costs. There are just so many things that can be done with FCP X that minimize time at the final mix stage, and at the final output stage, and so on. On a really tight budget, with the addition of just a few add-ons, you can output your movie from FCP X and have it look every bit as finished as a much bigger-budgeted film. The caveat, of course, is that your work-flow expert needs to know how to do all this. Quality control is always an issue, and there are some things that I am just more comfortable doing at the post house because I know they are the pros and I am certainly not. But for a really challenged budget, I would look to FCP X every time.
MM: How would you feel about going back to Avid?
DM: My philosophy is that you cannot hire people who are professionals in their field and then tell them they cannot have the tools of their trade. Many editors won’t work on anything besides Avid. I have been reaching out and trying to find editors who are either proficient or willing to become proficient on FCP X. At this time in the film industry, where it is really hard to make a financial model work for any given film, it is fiscally irresponsible to not look at every penny that can be saved so that the full value of the budget can be put onto the screen. My entire professional life has been “to protect the money.” Therefore, it is in my DNA to explore all options, and FCP X is a fabulous cost-saving option and because we are working with original media, there is no sacrifice in the quality. It works well and does what Avid can do. I simply cannot dismiss it.
MM: How do you feel about usurping old-style workflows?
DM: I have been working in film for thirty years, and so much of what I knew only a year ago is different from what is happening today. It is an ever-changing environment, which I love, and the opportunities for making amazing films for less money has never been as great. Awesome young talent is out there willing to embrace the new technologies and utilize them to the best of their advantage, so I feel as a producer that it is my responsibility—and my survival—to keep up.
MM: What would you tell someone considering FCP X who is on the fence?
DM: I would say that it is such an easy system to work with if you have the right work-flow specialist on staff, whether it is the assistant editor, the post supervisor, or someone else who knows the ins and outs of the system so that you can take full advantage of it. One editor can literally take an entire movie from dailies to DCP if they know how to do it. It is certainly worth finding that right person and giving it a try.
…had it not been for the FCP X savings, the movie Daisy Winters would have sacrificed in ways that would have been detrimental to the film.
Deborah Moore – Partner / President, Production
Technical Specs and Comments:
The film was shot on Red Dragon, which was transcoded to ProRes proxies on a 2013 10-Core Mac Pro D700s.
Dailies were synched with Sync-N-Link X, and microphone names were assigned to Roles via iXML data.
Editing was done on 2014 MacBook Pro 15” with 16GB RAM and external monitors.
VFX pulls were uploaded to Frame.io from Clip Exporter 2.
Audio was turned over to sound mixers in AAF format, made with X2Pro. The audio mixer said, “…bestturnovers ever.”
An XML file was sent to DaVinci Resolve 12 for color correction. It worked perfectly and all used media was consolidated to a SOFTRAID for transfer to Resolve project.
Daisy Winters is set for North American release December 1, 2017. The film was written and directed by Beth LaMure and edited by Cari Coughlin.

How I Survived my First Year at an Inbound Marketing Agency
“Hello Rhonda. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to support Ryan Shelley, owner of Shelley Media Arts, as he grows his inbound marketing agency.”
A year ago I joined Shelley Media Arts and while the job offer wasn’t phrased exactly like that, I certainly was about to embark on a mission that would challenge me and allow me to play an important role in the growth of the agency.
But first I had a question, what was “inbound marketing”? After a quick Google search and a few minutes on my new client’s website, I realized I had a lot to learn! I would be learning more than a new industry; I would be learning how to work remotely and how to help an entrepreneur grow his business. I was up for the challenge and here we are one year later, having grown from a team of two to a team of eight (soon to be nine).
I have learned a few lessons which helped me survive my first year with our inbound marketing agency. I’m sharing them in hopes they will help someone else who is growing their own agency or is part of a growing team and needs some encouragement. Much of what I describe comes from my experience as part of a remote team. Many agencies have a similar work arrangement and find that it works out very well as long as there is open communication, which leads me to my first point.
Communication is Key
Communication is essential to any organization, especially when working with remote team members. And, there is a lot to communicate when you are working on inbound marketing campaigns for several clients! We use technology to keep us in touch and on track with our projects, namely Slack for instant messaging, Zoom for video conferencing, and DoInbound for project management. It’s not the technology that keeps us connected, though, it’s our open and comfortable work environment. It’s easy to feel alone when you work remotely, but when you know that your leader and other team members are accessible it feels more like a real office than a virtual one.
I can’t say enough about how important video conferencing is to our team. Since we are all remote, our weekly calls keep us connected and give us a way to build relationships. If we relied solely on instant messaging or email, we would not be the cohesive team that we are. One thing that I often do on our calls is reiterate what Ryan has stated that he would do or that he wants me to do. It helps us make sure we are on the same page and that I have a clear vision of our next steps.
To learn more about the collaboration tools we use as a team, check out this post.
Success strategy: When you’re running a busy agency it can seem like there’s no time for meetings, and messages from your team members may seem like an interruption. You have to make it a priority to stay in touch and keep everyone focused.
If you’re working in an agency, ask questions – lots of them. Make sure you understand not only the “what” of what you’re doing, but the “why”. There are a lot of moving parts to the inbound marketing methodology and asking questions will help you learn how inbound marketing works.
If you’re the agency owner, communicate not only about individual tasks or projects but your agency’s overall goals and mission. Be open to questions and transparent about your vision. Your team wants to know how their role fits into the bigger picture.
Your Agency’s Mission is Your North Star
One thing I realized very quickly working with Ryan is that he has a mission that he is truly passionate about. He makes it very clear that he wants to connect businesses and target audiences in a more human and authentic way. It’s not just a catch-phrase to him, but an overarching belief that what we do is important and it’s our purpose to make marketing human.
Having this clear mission in mind has helped me in myriad ways but especially in our content marketing efforts. I often ask myself, “Is this going to help our clients connect with their audience in a real, authentic way?”
Success strategy: The culture and mission of your agency should be reflected in everything you do – every marketing strategy you develop, every service you provide, every team member you hire, and every client you choose to work with. It gives your team the guiding principles that will keep them on track with your company’s goals and values.
Treat Your Client’s Business Like Your Business
Early on, I realized that working in a small agency required me to think like an agency owner. I won’t pretend I know how to run a marketing agency, but everything I did was toward the goal of making the agency a success. After all, my job depended on it. If Ryan’s agency went under, I was sunk too. But it wasn’t just that. I truly wanted to see this thing fly.
Being a “virtual assistant” in an inbound agency puts me in a unique position. I not only serve my client, but I serve his clients. I have a personal stake in their success and I consider each of their businesses to be my businesses. As such, I never want to put anything out into the world, on my clients’ behalf, that I wouldn’t be proud of. I may be anonymous from the outside looking in, but I take complete ownership of everything I produce.
Success strategy: As an inbound agency, we have to take responsibility for the work we produce for our clients. It helps us be meticulous in providing the best quality service. From creating content strategy, to designing professional-looking graphics, to posting meaningful and helpful social media posts, to proofreading copy, every bit of work has to be undertaken as if your name is on it.
Keep Developing Your Skills
The digital marketing landscape is constantly evolving. That’s what makes it an exciting industry. However, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all there is to know and do for our clients.
One thing I keep reminding myself is that I have to start where I’m at with what I know, then learn a bit more. It’s a step-by-step process and there are no shortcuts. Coming into our agency, I had some experience in social media marketing from my own personal business. I knew enough about online marketing to understand the guiding principles of what we were trying to achieve. But I also knew that if I was to not only survive in inbound marketing but thrive, I had to learn more. And each time I learned something new, I learned that there was even more to learn. It’s a continuous cycle, each step building up to the next. The more I learn the better able I am to carry out our mission.
Success strategy: Endeavor to be a lifelong learner. If you think you know it all, then you don’t know anything. Always be learning and growing, expanding your skill set and honing your craft. There are some great resources online, particularly HubSpot’s inbound marketing and content marketing certification training courses. Find blogs that help you learn more about inbound marketing and content marketing. Two I recommend are Content Marketing Institute and Convince and Convert.
Consistent Effort Over Time Yields Results
Many times I’ve asked myself, “Is what we’re doing really helping?” I get impatient to see results, just like our clients do. But then I remind myself that inbound marketing is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes time to see real results.
As a results-oriented person, I want to know that what I’m doing is having an impact. As Ryan constantly reassures me with his gratitude and his trust in me, the small role I play has a big impact on the agency’s success as a whole. It’s up to me to keep the faith and continue working hard toward our goals. Over the past year, we have grown from having 1 inbound retainer to achieving HubSpot Gold partner status. One of the keys to that growth has been consistency.
Success strategy: Even though you may not see immediate results, trust the process. Take a minute to look up from what you’re doing and look at the big picture. You’ll see that you’re making progress.
Change is Good
With personal and business growth comes change. As uncomfortable as change can be, it means additional opportunities for growth. Over the past year, my role with our agency has changed a few times. That’s a good thing. I never have to worry about getting complacent and bored! More importantly, however, is the confidence that has come from knowing I can navigate the transitions that come with growing a business.
Success strategy: Surviving a challenging period, learning hard lessons and growing personally and professionally, is very empowering. It’s rewarding to know that you can handle anything that’s thrown your way.
Feel the Fear and do it Anyway
Being new to inbound marketing, I have been asked to do things that quite honestly I didn’t know how to do. I’ve also seen opportunities for improvement in our agency and I’ve voiced my thoughts. I could have as easily kept my ideas to myself. In both of these situations, fear could have prevented me from growing and learning. Not only that, if I truly have our agency’s best interests at heart, I have to face my fear and do it anyway so that we can grow.
Success strategy: Take your own personal fears and ego out of a situation and do what it takes to get the job done. You’ll come out of it stronger.
Scalability Wins
Sometimes I reminisce fondly about the days when it was just Ryan and me working our tails off to get his inbound agency off the ground. I enjoyed being a two person team. But I knew it wouldn’t last. We were a fast moving train. In order for us to grow, we had to add more team members who could help fulfill our obligations to our clients. It’s been fun to see our talented team grow.
In order to scale effectively, Ryan put processes in place which have helped each of us define the role we play in our inbound agency while allowing us to work as a cohesive unit. The sky’s the limit as we each bring our unique abilities to the table.
Success strategy: Don’t feel threatened as your team grows. Make your talents known so that you can bring them to light for the benefit of your agency’s growth.
Over the past year, I have learned about a whole new industry. But more than that, I’ve learned what it means to be a part of something bigger, part of a team working toward making the internet a better place. I hope in sharing the lessons I’ve learned, it will help someone else entering this field, perhaps another entrepreneur, virtual assistant, social media manager, or content marketer.
Here’s to the next year! I’m excited to see Ryan’s vision for SMA expand and I feel grateful to be on this journey with him and our amazing team.
