I know the fandom has pretty much unilaterally decided his parents are both shit but I'm thinking about "put his mom as a reference on job applications" Mama's boy Steve Harrington.

Like maybe they had a close relationship when he was a kid, a team within the house, "them vs. his dad" kind of thing and maybe they lose some of that as Steve grows older and starts to resent the fact that she never had the courage to just leave.

Maybe he's bitter and maybe he still loves her but she's away more, too much concern about her husband's affairs and not enough about her son who had always been more important than anything. He has every right to be bitter, but he still puts her down as a reference for Family Video because he knows deep down that she cares and she'll back him when push comes to shove - unless it's his dad she has to stand up to.

Maybe she's away so much following his dad and trying to "save her marriage" which was broken from the start, and maybe Steve gets used to the empty house, gets used to her putting him second until one day he's with Eddie, and the front door opens.

Maybe they're together on the couch, and probably it's not difficult for Steve's mom to figure out what's going on between them.

Maybe she's about to say something, but maybe she sees a flash of what her husband would say or do if he'd been the one to walk in first, and maybe that makes something click in her head.

Maybe she decides to put her son first for once.

Maybe she averts her eyes and pulls herself up tall and says something like "Your father's in the garage. I can buy you ten minutes before he walks in here." And maybe she leaves them to put themselves to rights.

And maybe it's not much, but it's something.

Maybe next time Steve's dad goes away on a "business trip," she stays home, and maybe they talk, begin to repair their relationship. Maybe Steve even tells her a little bit of what he's been through - not the detail, not the Upside Down, but what little he can tell her.

And maybe hearing that is what she needed to finally make the decision to leave, because her son isn't the failure her husband tries to make him look like, he isn't a disappointment, he's her pride and joy.

Maybe if her son is brave enough to do what he's done, if he's able to carry on and find love and friendship and happiness in spite of it all, she can be brave too.

#O_O i really love him #it's getting warmer every day and i can't draw him in a sweater for much longer #by the way. is this site going to. yknow. die #sigh........i kept telling myself I'd get better at it one day #kind of like the way i tell myself i can get together courage to speak up but i never do #using another website just sounds so depressing #im not good at social media. im tired of pretending like i can get good at it #but you can't even pretend like you can jump into a conversation if no one is having a conversation #i wanted to be part of a community here but i never could figure out what belonging looked like or how i could do it #and maybe it's my fundamental misunderstanding of that that prevents it but how can i understand it without experience #I'm so jealous of everyone who looks like they achieved what i couldn't even put my finger on. but since i didn't even understand it #i can't even be sure what exactly im jealous of #the other day i walked past a trio of friends and they had their arms around each other and were laughing as they walked #and i felt really strongly that even though I've always wanted a friend like that I'm actually fundamentally incompatible with that.#there's several reasons #but it made me feel really sad. but it made me feel a little better too. i guess it's really not my fault. maybe. i don't really know #in that moment it felt very much like something that was not my fault. and it was nice and sad at the same time #idk what's going to happen here. but one thing i know for sure is that i can have a happy tomorrow. no matter what #no matter what i have to give up on. i can find joy in other things. even in myself #and if there's one idea that he is about. it's that one

for me, Crassus skips the dog coding allegations on account of no one being able to put a leash on him, and there's no person he seems to be singularly devoted to in a way that dictates his actions

like, there's Sulla, but Crassus also did a lot of that of his own accord, and Sulla shut the door on him politically so Crassus climbed in through a window and worked a different aspect of Roman society-politics with magnificent skill. he ALSO skips the dog allegations because if anyone is bringing someone to heel, it's Crassus doing it to other people. there isn't a specific person that Crassus' actions can be dedicated to in a way that makes me think of a dog the way Agrippa's actions for Octavian do.

I also don't think he's feral! what he is: really fucking ruthless, or has the potential for ruthlessness, which isn't the same thing to me as being feral. and being ruthless is not uncommon for Late Republic politics

Joaquin "Jack" Navarro is a lone wolf, cyborg, and quantum physicist with an infamous talent for time-fuckery.

In the 1970s, Jack and Maggie---his wife and research partner---spearheaded the exploration of spacetime manipulation, producing a pseudo-physical albeit unstable manifestation of time. Their ambitions created disastrous consequences, ones that deteriorated Jack's mind to a state of agonizing pain and madness while also garnering transcendental abilities. He lashed out at his family, becoming more like a rabid animal than a man.

His madness was contained by the very rift he created until he fell into the hands of a powerful coalition that seized the opportunity to transform him into a literal killing machine, giving him cybernetic enhancements in order to pursue their own desires of spacetime manipulation and to strike down any opposition. Here, Jack became a violent, remorseless, teleoperated executioner.

After years of this, Jack broke away from servitude when his cybernetic receiver decayed, and he isolated himself on a distant planet where he was able to start putting together memories he had lost in the madness and trauma.

He still carries a cold and violent demeanor, a raging pessimist and bitter man with a penchant for self destruction. He has no idea what he wants, teetering between wanting to restore what was lost and wanting to remain in isolation, knowing he is at the mercy of the unstable time he created.
