for some reason, you can eat snackbowls of small crunchy handfood carbohydrates you can pop into your mouth, like doritos, or pretzels, but this same consideration does not apply to noncrunchy carbohydrates. i can’t speak on this at all, i haven’t watched the ae/or arc/end of c2, (or any of c2 beyond like. episode 15 and those were live), i just sit in the back with the snackbowl and read fic about purple war criminals. but! won’t stop me.

just. the fucking PREMISE of a living city actively trying to kill them, followed up by the homecoming safety of a graveyard. my good god, that’s the narrative melodrama my heart yearns for, my loins gird for, etc. this is some an/gela cart/er bullshittery right here. the hostility of a city glued together by sentient flesh, the visceral discomfort of flesh and stone mashed together. chef kiss. give me that sensory uncanny. and the resting place of the campaign being a graveyard. firstly: nice. secondly, the wonderful juxtaposition of a dead city with a thriving, flourishing graveyeard covered in tea plants (and a purple war criminal digging up potatoes, digression) is again. delightful. c2′s Large Overarching Themes are obviously going to vary by milage, but what does really stand out to me is the intersection of place and action. which, lol, you can say that about fukcing anything, but the settings were just.. absolutely integral to deriving thematical bullshit to me. like interrogating said purple war criminal on a boat - establishing the m/9 as beholden to Their own moral law, not that of the societies they wander through. no laws in the middle of the ocean after all. anyway. back to evil living city.

i read this absolutely mindblowingly good fic recently (purble war criminal and sad wizard husband in a climbing gym, legitimately one of the best bits of transformative work i’ve ever read, hands fucking down) which ends with a nice metaphor about relationships being built like cities, and the ways to connect with each other are just different bits of transport infrastructure. which, and im kicking myself i forgot to put it in my effusive comment, fantastic reference to the end of c2 in the whole. u know. living city. also it was delightfully thematic for the fic itself, but thats digression. which brings me along to theresa bridgeman on time and space in the camb. companion guide to narrative because hooo boy this is DENSE and DELIGHTFUL. and she, off the back of Dannenberg, suggests that narrative can be broken into concepts of path, container and portal, and indeed plots be understood as a metaphorical network of paths, as trodden by the characters who bend time/space to their whim. tl;dr plots are cities. - unfortunately all of that comes with the caviat of being about written text and is pregamed in the essay as an extension of Genette (my current academic blorbo), or the one guy who bangs on about the physicality of the text in relation to the text itself on many a level.

which, with All Of That interred in my noggin. ae/or is really such an encapsulative metaphor for the campaign at large. despite c/r being an auditory/visual narrative, i don’t know jack about studying those so. sticking with the ill-fitting suit of this.

if we are to take aeor’s living city as half of the extended metaphor about decay and rejuvination, then as an ending for the camp. it works very nicely as an end. there seems to be a lot going on in c2 about the concept of rot - in cad just. in general, in the power structures, in the physical city - the horrible flesh bits could certainly be taken as an alien, invasive substance corroding the concrete of the city and with adverse affect to the denizens. then to bastardise my own metaphoric interpretation of bridgeman, the creation of paths through a narrative city by the characters takes on a much more literal meaning when applied to ttrpg/dnd than a fully manipulated fictional novel character. to borrow futher still from That Banging Fic, what the players are then carving from the cityscape is not just pure narrative, but the relationships between characters, which i would argue in turn is the ‘plot’ of c/r. plot, however, is best understood here as the conglomeration of bridgeman’s spilt definition of narrative - story and discourse.

if u excuse me i have to go throw bridgeman’s physical narrative metaphors at t.s. eliot’s the waste land to see if something sticks.
