top 5 memorable ronance fic scenes?
okay i really really love this bc there are so many scenes that live rent free in my head, i'm so excited. these are in no particular order btw half of them just popped into my head at once
5) from entirely on purpose and according to plan by @dufrau this lil moment:
"It, uh," Robin tried. "It sounds like you've given this some thought." "I give everything a lot of thought," Nancy said. "The timing is right. You said it yourself, it's a summer for harebrained schemes. How about this one: fall in love with me." "That's, um," Robin started. For once she, was way ahead of Nancy. Done and dusted. She had tears in her eyes but Nancy wasn't looking at her. "I'm open to that. That sounds like a good plan. That's... I want that."
idk man i teared up and i had to put my phone down when i first read this. it's just the perfect dialogue to me, it sums up both their characters and everything that happened to get them to this moment (and everything that's going to happen now that they're here) in one cute, tidy little moment. wtf
4) the ending of chapter 4 in like a damaged nerve, like a dark bird by @monstrous-femme
“So you can only change small things?” How horrible, Nancy thinks, to live in a world where nothing of substance can be fixed. Where the same terrible things are doomed to repeat themselves, over and over without end. This, of course, leads to a round of bickering from the boys that leaves no room for other thoughts. “Small things can matter,” she hears Will say, before being drowned out by the others.
in a fic with such a haunting atmosphere this just stuck out as the most haunting thing not because it's eerie or inspires dread or whatever, but because it's such a quiet, crucial moment of hope. 10/10 chapter close
3) the coming out scene in girl that's a friend by ratgirl110 on AO3, which tbh is basically the whole fic. it's so poignant and messy and i love that you can feel the magnetism between nancy and robin as much as you can feel all the trauma and the fear of the future that hangs like a knife over their heads (this is true of both fics in the series, i love them so much)
2) it's too long for an excerpt but the scene in chapter 8 of monster of the week by @freezeveganpolice where nancy and robin and max get drunk and share trauma (oh, not-sober depression bonding should've been on my favorite tropes list)
1) the kiss scene! from Robin Buckley's Expert Field Guide to Catching Fireflies (and Other Childhood Favourites) by @smileweakandwrong !
i'm not gonna put the specific paragraph i'm thinking of because if you haven't read it you should, the payoff is incredible. but it felt so so magical, like a freaking fairy tale the way everything ties together in the end

very random question that is mostly only very tangentially Pasithea Powder-related, but have you guys heard of Articles of Interest?
It's a non-fiction podcast that does these fun deep dives into the intersections between clothes and culture and history. I just finished the 2nd ep of their recent "American Ivy" season, which (among other things) goes a bit into post-WWI British fashion trends and Bright Young People and Evelyn Waugh and his wife who (delightfully) is also named Evelyn, and (on top of being interesting all on its own) it all very much made me think of Pasithea Powder and also some of the hiatus book club stuff that I really loved.
ANyway, I just wanted to shout it out here to let you know that:
It was really interesting, and also felt like something that you guys (and maybe other pasithea fans) might enjoy if ever you are on the lookout for a cool, not-too-heavy non-fiction podcast to listen to!
More importantly: Congratulations! You have successfully rewired my brain in such a way that I cannot learn new things about the aftermath of WWI or people named Evelyn without immediately thinking about Jane and Sophie and all the sinister things they discovered after the war! (Stories, man - what a drug! <3)
(Is it weird or rude to bring up other podcasts in an ask like this?? if so, sorry and please feel free to ignore!)
This sounds EXTREMELY up our alley. Thanks for the rec!
Also: beyond delighted that we pasithea'd our way into your brain in that particular way. 🚀
(Using this as an excuse to throw a Brideshead Revisited gif out into the universe.)

2, 7, and/or 20 for the book ask meme!
2. top 5 books of all time?
i'm gonna look at my bookcase and TRY to answer something different than the five i've already listed, haha
inkheart, cornelia funke
troy, adele geras (this is a weird one to have stuck with me but it has)
persepolis, marjane satrapi
joan of arc: a life transfigured, kathryn harrison
temple of the wind, terry goodkind
7. is there a series/book that got you into reading?
i've been reading for forever so i can't remember something that specifically hooked me, but i was very into the merlin series by t.a. barron and the artemis fowl series by eoin colfer as a kid. i still have all the artemis fowl books and i haven't read the last one bc i don't want it to be over (and no, i will not watch the movie)
20. what are things you look for in a book?
the prose has to hook me more than anything. my sister and i both got into forensic fiction in middle school (younger than we should have, tbh) and over the years we've both only stuck with reading patricia cornwell bc she cares about how she's writing something just as much as what she's writing, which is more than i can say for everyone else. other than that, i tend to like genre fiction more than ~regular, and i always want some kind of humor. if nothing's funny, what's the point of reading anything really

Tag game: tag 9 people you’d like to get to know better.
Got tagged by @riotbrrrd thanks <3
Last song: Still obsessed with the Stray Gods soundtrack, so probably one of them.
Currently watching: Slowly working through Only Murders in the Building s3 with my wife. I'm also keeping up with Critical Role. And Dungeon Meshi has been a fun weekly pleasure!
Three ships: Laudna/Imogen is still delightful to watch unfold. I also recently rewatched bits and pieces of RWBY, which reawakened my deep deep attachment to both Blake/Yang and Blake/Yang/Weiss.
Favorite color: red
Currently consuming: I had a banana and cereal for (late) breakfast, I'm about to go to the gym so I won't eat until I'm done working out, but I'll probably have leftover vegetarian tagine for (late) lunch :')
First ship: Kim/Shego... formative in many ways
Relationship status: gay married
Last movie: I rewatched The Handmaiden last week, as a treat
Currently working on: finishing the many books i've started reading!

Currently reading: I'm on the verge of quitting The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood, not because it's objectively bad but because I'm not enjoying it for reasons I might noodle on about on my book blog. I have a stack of library books so I'm not sure what I'll try next.
Currently watching: @sinceyouaskedme recommended Mic the Snare and I've been watching some of his discography deep dives, which led to a very funny situation where I watched the one about Radiohead and then listened to Ok Computer by Radiohead for the first time (regarded by many as one of the greatest albums of all time), and it was very good, and I was like, I can't go online and be like "Oh my god you guys I'm sure know one else knows this but did you know Ok Computer by Radiohead is good?!"
Currently obsessed with: I looked up what turned out to be The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats on Friday because I was trying to figure out where one of its lines came from, and first of all holy shit I did not realize how much it is to 20th-21th century literature and pop culture as Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen is to ao3. All those are from the same poem? Second of all, it's very good (much like Ok Computer by Radiohead is very good, one could say 🙂). I ended up looking up a list of ultra-famous poems, because I realized that not having taken any lit classes beyond high school means there are many ultra-famous poems that I haven't ever come across. I'm resisting the urge to say something defensive, because not knowing certain poems when you could have Taken The Initiative And Looked Them Up Whenever is something people get so wildly mean about, like hiking, but I didn't and who cares. And now I have! (Did you guys know The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot is also very good?!)
Last song listened to: Silence by Lizz Wright, best known round this blog for being the artist I discovered by getting her 2008 album The Orchard buying thrift store CDs last summer, which I then listened to for months because. I mean. When I went to get that link I paused writing this for two minutes to relisten to the first half of the first track because 😭😭❗❗, 10/10 Ok Computers by Radiohead, source: dude trust me. Also previously seen round this blog for Goodbye on (ironically) the Astrid-Caleb reunion, race you to the top section of my Astrid fanmix ("so you take the high road/and I'll take the low" indeed).
Silence is also from her first 2003 album, and I cagily didn't link it first because I feel like it's a little less overtly knock your socks off, but it too is !! (I feel like it really kicks off at the end of the second verse with the vocals and instrumentals on "that silence is a song.")

tagged by @lonely-night to post nine of my favorite first watches of 2023
*with honorable mention to the eras tour movie which is not really a movie
**with the disclaimer that generally I'm not a huge movie watcher though I'd like to be more of one! I feel like I alternately had a few "wow, that film was incredible", "wow, can't believe I'd never seen that", and "wow, that was sure bonkers!" movie experiences in 2023!

smirk47 Hi! If you're still AMAing: what's your favorite fictional thing(s) you've watched, read or listened to in the last month?
hi!
tv-wise, i'm getting a huge kick out of the afterparty, particularly the musical episode, whose big song still gets stuck in my head on a regular basis.
in terms of music, aimee mann released an album of songs she had intended for a stage adaptation of Girl, Interrupted which never came to pass, and it is stupendous. if you're familiar with the book, you can kind of piece together the story. (cw: mental illness, suicide mention)

nancy pov ask game! how about: shine?
there is indeed one (1) instance of shine!
Robin looks so pretty, everywhere they go. She looks sweet when her mother forces into her a skirt or a dress, but she shines even more when she gets to wear something she actually likes.
send me words for the nancy pov

Hi! After listening to one of your Q&As a few weeks ago, I decided to check out Barker's Regeneration Trilogy. I just finished the third one last night. First: thanks for the recommendation! I'd never heard of them and they were excellent and fascinating and incredibly moving and OUCH!?!?! I don't think I've ever read historical fiction quite like it. Second: it was very cool to see the inspirations that helped shape Pasithea as a story, and just to better understand some of those references!
Thank you so much for this! Hooray!! "Excellent and fascinating and incredibly moving and OUCH!?!?!" is such an apt summary. Billy Prior 4ever.
Anyway, more details to come very soon, but if you (or you, Tumblr reader) like the inspiration insights, you'll love some of our off-season/hiatus Patreon plans.

seekingoutfriday: I agree, but I will say that I think the reason Adora skipped over being mad at glimmer whereas Bow didn't was because Adora was preoccupied with thinking a lot about Catra and her situation on Prime's ship and Catra"s choices, and then they got Catra on their ship and then adora's frustration was focused on Catra. Not a lot of room for her to be thinking about her negative feelings in regards to Glimmer.
Oh, I agree there was no time and also its in Adora’s nature to push it all down as Ted Mosby would say, an Ohio-an. PUuuush it all down. And Push it all down again!
I just hope/wish it gets addressed sometime. It’s also pretty hard to forget how Glimmer was all buddy buddy with Shadow Weaver to the point that when Adora and Micah returned to Brightmoon she was sitting on the throne.
smirk47: AGREED. I feel like Glimmer never truly gets called out on how cruel she was to Adora. Like ... she was grieving and lashing out and I get that. But I do wish there were more stories that actually addressed the harm she did to Adora specifically.
Yeah, definitely. I get that Glimmer was grieving but Glimmer is great at (just like Catra) is going for Adora’s soft spots, and it’s honestly unfair because Adora has no armor for that. Her heart is openly on her sleeve and I don’t think it’s ever something she expected from Glimmer.
Glimmer vs Catra feels more like a fair fight, IMO.
I just hope Adora gets a chance to process everything including how much Glimmer hurt her and gets a chance to say so.

smirk47 replied to your photo “It’s funny. I don’t watch the new show. And I do feel like I’ve taken...”
do your own thing! you're going to bring something unique to the story you are telling and that's a good thing. tell YOUR story - I promise, people will care and identify with it and enjoy it
thank you, you’re right. sometimes it’s very hard to see the forest for the trees, you know? i’ve been stuck inside of this thing for so long, and maybe i’m a little jealous that someone got to make another version of it, THEY DID THE THING, even if it’s not really what i’m making, i don’t think.

I was tagged by @giaswift thanks dear!
Last song: Amoeba, by Clairo
Last show: that I finished? Hacks season 2 I believe! There were a few parts I didn’t super enjoy in season 2, but overall SO good. The last episode... wrecked me.
Currently watching: The Bear. Stressful show, but really good so far (I’m three episodes in). I started it for Ayo Edebiri, who was fantastic in Dickinson, and is fantastic in The Bear with a much bigger role. But I’m also surprisingly really enjoying the main guy as well. can’t stand Richie though, and not even in a “love to hate him” kind of way. this type of character (manly-man asshole but wait! he actually cares! he can be soft! he has a daughter!) does absolutely nothing for me anymore.
Oh and I’m finally delving into EXU: Calamity, and caught up with CR3.
Currently reading: Jane Eyre! And I’m loving it.
