Today's bird is the Smew Duck - it's such a cool looking duck that actually nests in tree holes like woodpeckers do.

Yesterday's birb, the smew duck. I'm having an attack of the sads so I just did a simple black and white sketch of this one.

the smew is a species of duck, and the only living member of their genus (mergellus). the smew is found in europe and the paleartic, living primarily along lakes and slow-moving rivers. smew are easily distinguished from other ducks by the male’s panda-like black and white coloration; females have a grey body and chestnut-colored cap, and are sometimes referred to as the ‘red-headed smew’ despite being the same species. these ducks are talented fishers and feed almost entirely on aquatic prey. they also nest in abandoned woodpecker cavities; ducklings leave the nest a mere ten days after hatching.

after looking over like 45+ ducks I have decided I like these ones:

Northern Pintail because I like how simple but pretty it looks, Ruddy Duck because blue bill cool (and theyre very cute <3), and the Smew because that names so freaking funny and also because they look cool as fuck

I’ve begun amassing fakemon for a third region and an early game pokemon would be a little duckling that’s capable of evolving into six different ducks. Using a Dawn Stone from level 22 will evolve it into one of the six, dependant on which stat is highest.
