#elena of avalor #beauty and the beast #batbedit #disneyedit #eoa edit #belle x beast #estebalena #kinda but also not kinda #I think a lot about the fact that it's been confirmed that this is an intentional homage #like EoA series supervising director Elliot M. Bour was just like casually bringing BATB into things as an Easter egg #since it was his first job in animation #and like don't get me wrong; I LOVE that he did this. I just don't know how he expected anyone (i.e. me) to be normal about it afterwards #once you've introduced BATB; it ceases to be a fun and casual reference and just makes the literature major girlies go feral #i thought this was gonna be a quick and easy little project but it wasn't #the parallels are all there but they're in slightly different order in EoA than the original and the pacing for each reference is differen #so i had to determine which ones I needed to skip frames for and which ones to use all the frames #and then try to figure out the speed from there #the coronation day scenes were very hard to color because the grey skies and muted filter kind of whitewash the characters #like you don't even understand i added so MUCH vibrance and saturation to the 4th and 5th gifs but elena's skin still is just gray #and the coloring is still just a very very mixed bag #also i've realized that while I don't think it was an intentional reference in the same way BATB was #anna's sacrifice and resurrection from frozen is perhaps just as --if not more-- a clear parallel to the coronation day scene than BATB #so maybe I will do that one someday too?#once i psych myself up again to try coloring coronation day again #which i imagine will be awhile #these do not look like the same scene and pretty much the same scene at all even if i tried to use the same psd when i could #and edit them to make the coloring as close as i could

new Siwon doodle (OC)... I think I finally figured out how I want to draw his hair😳 I like how this came out hehe...🐶 excited bc i was able to solidify his design more...!!🥹

#wanted to bring back some of the cuteness from my initial drawing of him...#but implement some of the changes he's had since then... i think I succeeded YAY ^__^🧡#i think i finally struck a good balance btwn curly and straight w his hair...#and fluffy and soft... but not too fluffy that its like way too big??#i also got rid of the mullet (longer hair on neck) for sure... imagine that its p short in the back #i used to draw his hair poking out under his ears but got rid of that #also happy bc his hair doesnt look too similar to how i draw milk cookie KDJS that was bothering me a lil... phew #some more small changes:#slightly thicker eyebrows #as well as a more solidified eye shape (eyelash wings/sharp ends)#+ made his base skin hair and eye color imperceptibly darker #+ incorporated the larger frame that ive been drawing him with lately KFJSKD #he rly underwent detwinkification ig...#milkcookiefication...#my art #OC #baek siwon

#portwell #they deserve it #and also because this is one of my favourite songs from the whole hsm series #I stared at the flower print dress and thought about animating that and said uh no put her in pink #drawing her braids without animating is already a pain but her braids are so cute....#tbh I've never drawn Real People there was a part of me that went YOU NEED TO PAINT THEM TO MAKE THEM LOOK MORE LIKE THE ACTORS #but then I wouldn't be able to animate them without spending a whole month painting #and the point of this was animation LOL #anyway this turned out slightly better than I expected #I had a couple of extra hair movement frames but ultimately realised they muddied the flow and added nothing #that's today's takeaway from animation practice!#if anyone told me 5 years ago that my first human gif animation in years would be of a disney teen show with melodrama and a broken ship #I wouldn't believe them lol #but here we are #hsmtmts #my scribbles

I drew Herbert West from reference and I'm proud of it! I see a lot of flaws but I really think it's so much better than all my other attempts at drawing a face from photo reference.

I really enjoyed Witch King and think it's Good but need to announce the ludicrous brass balls involved in the title.

Because it's named after the main character, who is known by that title, we establish that right out the gate.

Fairly soon after, we establish that he, like Dorothy, is not a witch at all. Although he is on good terms with them and uses some of their techniques.

Bit after that we learn that witches don't hold with kings, or indeed with governance. Kai says eventually that they don't have enough communal norms to even rebel against if you wanted to. Fascinating.

The flashback-to-origin-story half of the narrative terminates before we reach the point where people started calling Kai the Witch King.

We never find out how that happened! We never even really see anyone using the title except when he's being introduced to one major supporting character by another in the first or second chapter! It's wild. Witch King without Witch King. Garfield without Garfield.

This is so funny to me I can forgive the letdown, because to be quite honest by the middle of the book I was counting on the origin of the title as a sort of tying-together moment for the whole narrative, linking the end of the earlier timeslice to the beginning of the later one, and was astonished that it didn't come. It makes the novel feel weirdly unfinished to me, like Wells accidentally left off the last few chapters somehow.

I have been denied catharsis about the title of the book. 🤣

#hoc est meum #like to an extent this is a matter of taste #wells NEVER has as much structure as i expect a novel to #and she only does close zoom and super wide pans #no mid-scale information ever #which is a very clever way to make sure her settings hold shape and feel concrete without getting bogged down in the infinite complexity #of reality #but witch king minus witch king is Slightly Egregious #witch king #martha wells #i enjoyed the heck out of it!#but it's hanging in my head in a somewhat unpleasant way #because my brain doesn't think i finished reading it #confess to a mild sense that this book while there's nothing WRONG with it needed a bit longer in the oven #to marinate in its own juices as it were #spoilers #i also felt i'd been promised more information about the precursor race to the fell and raksura #than was actually provided #so again matter of taste #wells is so good at tightly-paced action sequences with emotional punch that with the right framing they substitute #for narrative resolution #but i don't think she quiiiiiite stuck the landing here #hellboy voice: king of the witches! me!#i got so mad i thought #why NOT fight a whole army of skeletons?#honestly i think he and kai would vibe #despite being wildly different sorts of demon
