I have a love/hate relationship with Hollow Earth. On one hand it’s a genuinely cool concept, and considering Godzilla has been to actual hell it’s not that bizarre in the grand scheme of things, but on the other the Monsterverse started out more serious with Godzilla 2014 and Kong: Skull Island and I kind of miss that. Don’t get me wrong I love silly Godzilla but I came in expecting Godzilla and Kong to be portrayed as terrifying forces of nature and got greeted with a tone shift after KotM. Also I just think it’s funnier to say that these giant monsters have been great at hiding from us so far. That the last recorded sightings were so long ago that they’ve been dismissed as myth. That these creatures are so large that once they enter hibernation they slowly become indistinguishable from mountains and sometimes even islands and because their biology is so different from any other animal on Earth no technology could tell us it was different than your average rock formation.
