"All cats old enough to hunt their own prey gather around the Fallen Log for a Clan meeting!" Scorchstar's voice rang throughout camp.

As cats gathered around, Thornpaw and Featherpaw conversed in hushed whispers. Eventually Rosewhisker broke them up by quickly grooming each of his daughters until they were presentable.

"Featherpaw, Thornpaw. Step forward." Scorchstar called, and the two sisters both did so at the same time. "I, Scorchstar, call upon our warrior ancestors to look down on these apprentices. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code and I commend them to you as warriors in their turn. Featherpaw, Thornpaw, do you swear to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend the Clan, even at the cost of your lives?"

Thornpaw puffed out her chest confidently and nodded. "I do."

Featherpaw seemed a bit less confident, but held her chin up and repeated her sister's words.

"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior names. Thornpaw, from this moment on you shall be known as Thornbriar. StarClan honors your bravery and welcomes you as a full member of the Clan."

The rest of the Clan cheered her on, particularly the two's parents.

"Featherpaw, from this moment on you shall be called Featherblossom. StarClan honors your intelligence and welcomes you as a full member of ScorchClan."

The Clan burst into more cheering. That night there would be celebration. Prey, and then the two would stand vigil at the camp entrance. Featherblossom was glad that her name reminded her of Poppypaw, their sister who never got the chance to become a warrior. For her, she would try and be one of the best cats the Clan had.

Stripepaw had a frown on his face. He wanted to be happy for his sisters, but felt jealousy that he would have to wait for his name. Like Mothball said, it would take longer for a medicine cat to learn everything about herbs than a warrior to learn everything about battle and hunting. It seemed unfair to him, though.

"Hey." Thornbriar whispered as she joined her littermate at the camp entrance. Already she had broken the vigil's rule of silence, but it was important. Featherblossom just stared at her quietly, tilting her head in concern. "Poppypaw should've been with us. I think she should get a name too. I thought maybe Poppyfire would be fitting, since she's a burning star up in StarClan now."

Featherblossom liked the idea. But part of her thought Poppyfire might be disappointed if she broke her silent vigil. She looked Thornbriar in the eyes and nodded. She understood that her sister wouldn't want to break her vow.

Eventually the sun came up and the two were allowed to speak, but more importantly to Featherblossom, she could sleep. She went back to the privacy of the nursery and fell asleep.

Her dreams were interrupted by a strange vision of a deer hopping through camp. Whatever this meant, if anything, Featherblossom didn't know. She'd leave omens to the medicine cats.

Scorchstar might have responsibilities as leader, but that didn't mean she never had time to herself to go adventuring. Afterall, the Clan needed to grow eventually.

Twoleg Place was awfully closeby, though. She'd wandered through it when she was a loner, but now she felt like it was a stranger place since living in Clan territory. Still, every once in a while she felt the need to explore.

...And she wasn't the only one.

Scorchstar barely noticed the dog until it was too late. It's massive paws were much faster than hers. Despite her trying her absolute hardest, she couldn't escape!

Soon the dog was upon her, and it's teeth sank into her back and side. She let out a yowl and attempted to scratch it's muzzle, to no avail. It shook her like she were a toy and flung her aside.

She saw blood pooling from under her, and felt the world begin to spin...

Modding status: Doing stuff.

I really got bogged down in trying to get Warrior Cats ready for alpha release, so I gave myself a break and dusted off some old animation projects.

TIL how to do baby-holding animations! That's been the big hurdle to doing the update of Nona's breastfeeding mod with animations from TSM. The adult animations are quite nice and fit the TS3 baby burrito pretty well, but there's no baby animations because the baby in TSM is an object. I'm using some existing baby animations, but they need some tweaking.

I also revisited an old project to create child conversions of a bunch of Handiness animations, using a bunch of stuff I've learned about working in Blender since then.

I am going to get back to Warrior Cats. Getting a few smaller wins under my belt should help.

I'm also brainstorming a physical attraction mod to bring some of the features of Wonderful Whims into TS3. It looks like I could create a preference system where a sim perfers certain eye color, hair color, fitness, body weight, and breast size/facial hair dependent on sexual orientation. A physical attraction score could be derived from how much any given sim meets those preferences, and then romantic actions could be augmented by how attracted the sim receiving the interaction is to the sim doing the interaction.

E.g. if your sim tries to kiss a townie, the townie's reaction would be augmented by how attracted the townie is to you. Then if the townie initiates an interaction, your sim's response would be augmented by their attraction to the townie, which could be positive or negative. I'd like to have the romantic interaction stages, or whatever they're called (flirty, alluring, irresistible) go up faster without actually increasing the sim's relationship with each other, i.e. you can romance/jump in the sack with someone you're attracted to without knowing them very well.

Then the TS3 attraction system could be treated as social compatibility, which is really what it is anyway. Social compatibility is a more mutual thing, while physical attraction isn't.

Still poking around to see what's possible.

I'd probably call the mod Chemistry as a tribute to an old abandoned project of Twallan's.

Also -- this physical chemistry project would involve NO ANIMATING.

The nights had been peaceful since Stripehawk got his full Healer name. Other than somewhat scarce prey, the Clan has been peaceful.

Featherblossom found herself wandering in the wilds, coming across another colony of cats at a barn.

For the most part, they seemed friendly. Though their leader seemed to want Featherblossom to leave if she didn't want anything important.

Which was fine with her. Horses were a lot bigger than she'd imagine. Kind of scary looking, too.

"What are you doing out here?" Thornbriar padded up to her brother who was standing outside camp alone.

"I don't know. Keeping watch. I felt like I should be out here." Stripehawk shook his head. "It's probably nothing."

He walked past Thornbriar without another word. She simply watched him leave, a bit regretful that he had grown distant spending all his time in the medicine den. Still, he was right about feeling strange out here. A chill ran down her spine and she turned to look across the pond.

"Hm? What is that...?"

"...Poppyfire? Is that you!?" Thornbriar trotted after the red figure, recognizing her sister.

"Yes, it's me." Poppyfire said, padding along past the pond. "I was expecting to see Stripehawk, not that I'm sad to see you, Thornbriar."

"Is there something wrong? Did you need to give Stripehawk a message?" Thornbriar asked, though she wasn't sure if she would get an answer.

Talking to StarClan was Stripehawk's job, but perhaps she could carry a message meant for him. Then again these ghostly cats probably had rules about this. Still, at least Poppyfire was willing to talk to her.

"You know, this was meant for Stripehawk, but perhaps I should tell you. If you'll keep it to yourself? The rest of the Clan will know in time." Poppyfire offered.

Thornbriar nodded vigorously. She tried to make her fur lie flat as Poppyfire spoke.

"When the sky glows red and fire falls upon the Clan, follow the falling feathers through clear winds." Poppyfire dipped her head to Thornbriar, and with a flash of light she was gone.

"ScorchClan is not ready yet for the events to come." Poppyfire mused, leading the way through the snow. "That is fine. They have many moons before the prophecy comes to fruition."

The dark vision besides her followed in silence through the night, taking in the landscape of the forest around them.

Eventually the two reached the peak of the hill they were ascending, and Poppyfire stopped to look behind them, back at ScorchClan's territory. The camp would be just waking up for dawn patrols. Things would be going like any other day.

For a moment she wished she could reappear in camp, and warn them all of the coming danger. StarClan would surely banish her for that, though. As day cascaded over the forest, she felt herself slowly ascend, back to the stars.

The vision stayed behind, trekking forward, oneday to return here. It would come true one day, and that would be a grim day for the Clan cats beneath.

Guess who was working on Tales Before Birch and realized she made every mackerel tabby actually a classic tabby and is trying to map out genetics to make drawing family trees easier?

This girl!

Also, fun fact: tomorrow is my birthday. I have a post planned for tomorrow, but there's no guarantee I'll actually finish the planned post. So, if nothing posts tomorrow, it's because drawing is difficult and I got busy with all the projects currently at hand.

Also, a few updates: -----Thank you to everyone who voted in the Starclan polls, I will be working on that situation once I have plenty of posts queued up again. -----Pretty Petals will return after the current moon of Tales Before Birch is written and queued up, I try to do stories on rotation in attempts to avoid dropping the series. -----As much as I enjoy the wacky genetics of the Sims 3, I will once again be mapping out genetics for how each cat looks. You can thank my genetics hyperfixation and Whiteear's nightmare of a family(genetics-wise, seriously she has 2 tortie sons and a black and white daughter, the only way I could avoid mutations with these guys would be to make both Hawk and Brindle trans, and I didn't really want to do that when I try to make the characters' gender assigned at birth match what the game gave them <-this is why I made Mousepaw trans, I kept calling him male and he felt right as a tom, but he's afab in game). -----A new series will start coming out sometime after the next batch of Pretty Petals Posts. There will be art drawn by me, so hopefully I get it done and you all like it. -----I will be posting more polls that might affect certain stories, like Tales Before Birch and New Tales of the Forest, so be on the lookout for that
