Werewolf Models

WEREWOLF IDENTIFICATION POP-QUIZ!

this is for all the werewolf fans out there (tumbleweed rolls by). i've long since memorised all their features by heart, but they're still hard to differentiate sometimes, so here are the isolated models for all the werewolves in the game!

i'll also have the names of each in the alt text so they can be read voluntarily (by clicking/tapping the 'alt' symbol), just in case you'd prefer to test yourself and guess :)

that's all of them! here are some things i'd like to note.

the older werewolves of the bunch (silas, caleb, and kaylee) are all noticeably different from the others. as they get older they appear more wolf-like, with longer snouts and more haphazardly-positioned teeth.

they also all look eerily like their human counterparts, no? some less than others of course, but werewolves like kaylee and dylan look very similar. i remember reading somewhere that they were made to fit the faces of the actors, though i may be making that up.

it's also worth noting that the fresher werewolves (nick, jacob, emma and laura) are also very similar to one another, particularly their teeth- at a guess, they all used the same base model which was then morphed to look more like the character they transformed from.

Btw, a random thing in the quarry I noticed. Almost everyone calls the werewolves "bears" the first time they see one. Either this or they are just confused. The only person who says "I think it was a person" is Laura. And I like how it ties with her possibility to be reluctant to shoot Silas in the end, because she sees him like she saw him for the first time: a person. I just think it's a neat detail

my take on the white wolf!! honestly i didnt love his in game design cus despite being a big deal plot/characterwise hes like kinda visually nondescript.... hence i give him big tendrily floaty hair bits to remedy this

is that maybe some informed design decision to give him an eerie weightlessness and emphasise his ghostly, enigmatic nature? to visually echo the flames that burned the circus, defining his presence as a haunting parody of the initial trauma that unleashed him onto the hacketts? or do i just like the way the murlocs look from world of warcraft? who can say...

So a while ago, @mungoborne and I talked about how werewolves eye colours seem to change with time. Every new werewolf we see has greyish eyes with green/bluish pupils. Max, by at least his second transformation, has developed yellow eyes with dark pupils. The older werewolves, Chris and Kaylee have dark brown/reddish eyes with black pupils. The oldest, Caleb and Silas have red eyes. Thought this was pretty interesting. Makes me think about what they’d all look like a few years later if they remain infected.

Kaylee and Caleb approached the nurse's cabin as soon as an unfamiliar scent entered their systems. It wasn't that difficult for them to narrow down where it was coming from, really, they've gotten quite used to their "werewolf senses" at this point. Albeit, a bit surprising at times, both Kaylee and Caleb now incorporate their new life into their everyday nicely. The water and silver aversion took some getting used to, well, a lot of getting used to. They do quite miss when their lives were "normal," however... But not much can be done about it now, and the reason to that reality is about to be within several feet of them.

It was reaching dusk now, a faint, orange glow set itself over the camp. Silas has been on camp grounds for maybe a few hours, getting patched up by Laura Kearney. For most people, it was a regular day, but for the Hacketts, it's as if a bomb was set off. The air felt unbearably tense. Well, for most of the Hacketts, anyway. For the past six years, the Hackett family has made it their goal to hunt down Silas, to finally put an end to the curse that "leeched" itself onto them. But Caleb and Kaylee saw Silas' existence in a different way, it wasn't his fault they all were thrust into this unfavorable situation. It was them who practically pulled the final trigger, anyway... The scene still haunts them til this day. They wished it never happened. I suppose, now, they're just facing the consequences of their past, naive actions.

And in fact, they weren't even initially told about their family's plan. Every full moon they would enter the blood red luminescence of the basement, lock themselves in cages, and wake up hours later with the worst headache they've ever experienced, that was the most of it. So, to finally realize what they've been up to every full moon, every month, every year? It was a bit of shock. They would go as far as to say it made them disdain their family for some time. But it never lasted long, because family is supposed to be everything, right? Hating family is just- it shouldn't be done. Right?

The creak of the cabin door greeted them, they took a few steps before their eyes focused in on Laura and Silas planted on a nearby bed. Kaylee and Caleb, especially Caleb, really wanted to take this opportunity to get to know the boy better, especially since the current environment wasn't... laced with malice and death. It was a summer camp, everyone enjoyed a summer camp, right? It's not even comparable to a forest riddled with death traps and men armed with shotguns wanting you dead...

Kaylee frowned at Silas' greeting; Caleb remained calm and nudged her a bit, noticing her unfiltered reaction. He knows how she wears her heart on her shoulder; she always had trouble keeping what she's actually feeling to a minimum. And Caleb also knows that he needs to help keep her in check, to keep her safe. That's what he was always told.

Caleb spoke up first. "Silas... it's okay, we- we don't want to hurt you. And we." He motioned to Kaylee. "Certainly don't want you to die.

"We actually came to just, talk, if you'd like."

"And to apologize," Kaylee added.

here are some of the things i’ve been able to capture of the werewolves using freecam!! most of these are things you would not usually be able to see in a normal playthrough.

silly little guy on the radiohut roof! yes, silas actually appears on the shack twice despite us not being able to see him; first when ryan is given the prompt to shoot at the ceiling, and again when dylan falls to the floor. when i tell you i leaped around my room in joy when i saw him there i am not exaggerating. (yes, the second animation is actually that choppy. not an issue on my end, it appears to have been abandoned before it was refined completely)

dylan’s transformation up close! unfortunately he does not have his own model (makes sense as he does not appear in the game again after transforming) so he uses silas’ model instead. it would make more biological sense for him to use jacob’s or nick’s models, but my guess is that they just used silas’ as it was already loaded in this scene. by far the coolest model in my opinion though, so i won’t complain :)

caleb in that short cutscene where he’s on the cliff face in the distance!

aaand some final miscellaneous werewolf pics :) will definitely be studying them further once i continue my playthrough- chris in particular, as well as kaylee once i unlock chapter select. i’d love to get a better look at her and caleb during nick’s infection as that scene confused me initially. i love these little guys so much <33

Laura couldn’t help but move away from the small boy she was trying to treat. He looked so harmless now, but she had no way to tell if that were really true. The full moon was over, but Silas was an anomaly; she didn’t know what he was capable of.

Though right now, it didn’t look like much.

“It’s okay, Silas,” Laura said, gently placing her hand on his shoulder. “I’m trying to help.”

I think I got blocked so I will now talk about Silas and post in his tag and you all have to suffer... or you like what I'm going to write.

The white wolf really is such a mysterie which is a pity. Whe know literally nothing but his name and what he kind of looks like.

All we know about him are from very untrustworthy sources.

One is Travis who is telling us what Kaylee told him.

Travis assumes that Eliza is not Silas' real mother. But we don't know that. Eliza looks really old so how likely is it? Well, it can still be true that Eliza is indeed Silas mother since the game is taking place in a world where werewolves, witches and ghosts are real.

But all of this just raises more question and we get literally no answers.

Like how old was/is Silas?

Travis says Kaylee wanted to help the child. this means that Silas was in his human form, right? And Travis also says that even six years later there are sightings of a feral albino child along the coast. Of course if Silas was something like 6 years old when Harum Scarum got destroyed, he could be 12 when he was finally "caught".

That again raises the question if no one ever tried to find him and bring him inside? A naked child in the woods that was seen multiple times?

Anyway let us look at the poster on the cage:

compared to the new flyer, we find all the time, the one from six years ago:

In the first one Eliza looks a lot younger. Of course that could have been the artist of the poster deciding to just pretty her up. But if you look at the design, the first ones looks older... like it could be from decades ago.

But Silas was already a part of the show then. So... how old is Silas really? Is he Elizas son? She sure seems to think so.

Eliza sees Silas as her son. Why did she put him in a cage? Maybe it wasn't as bad as Kaylee thought it was? It might have been good enough that people thought it is just an act? The cage itself is rather big... Maybe peope thought the feral thing was also just an act?

That would be what I might assume... children who grow up in a circus often help out with the acts.

Either way, Eliza loved Silas enought to stay in the real world as a ghost and to try to kill off a whole family to protect him (and maybe bring him snacks/campers into the woods, who knows).

Anyway talking about age, another thing is that both Kaylee and Caleb are (if we believe the family tree) 21 22 (*1999) and 26 (*1995)

Not exactly teenagers, even though Chris titles them as such. The developers are just not exact with the ages and all characters are unreliable narrators.

Also Caleb was 20 when he started the fire to help his 15 16 year old sister to free a child. Instead of asking their cop-uncle to help?

All of this just seems weird. Caleb should have known better. He was already an adult who grew up in the woods and at camp. He should know about the dangers of fire.

Even if they were both only 10 years old they should have known better...

Another thing is that we have to assume is, that Silas was in his human form when he got "rescued". And still he bit Caleb. He is multiple times described as feral (again by Travis who is not a reliable source) but it might still be true.

The fact alone that Silas bit Caleb while probably being human is an indicator for Silas actually being feral. That raises the question of why was Silas like that? Was he like that from the beginning? Or was he just not raised adequately? OR if he really is older than he looks did he become more feral with time?

All of those are valid options.

Another thing that always strikes me as weird is Kaylees letter. The first time I heard it, it sounded like she is not sorry about what happened. It sounds like she is only sorry about how it turned out.

Though, many people died she does not sound like she feels any regret... maybe werewolves really become more feral with time?

Gammy, How long we gonna drag this shit out? I know family is the most important thing, but I wanna know what's outside the forest, outside this damn house and camp, and I sure as hell know that ain't about to happen 'cos of who we are. Maybe we can explain what's goin' on. Fuckin' show people. Then they'll know we got no control over it. I know you just tryin' to protect us, but one day you won't be here no more and right now it feels like we stuck in a dark hole. I can't sleep Gammy. Or if I do I dream about that fuckin' fire. We were just dumbass kids back then. I wish it never happened. Love, K xoxo

Also Kaylee writes that they were just dumbass kids, which might be true for her but not for her brother (again, 15 16 and 20).

BUT THEN we have this photo:

We don't know when it was made but it could be from six years ago? But Caleb does not look 5 4 years older than Kaylee... all of this is just one big mysterie.

Anyway I wish we would have learned more about Silas because the things we do learn are not really anything to go with... all we can do is take those and put our own preferred headcanons around them.

Laura glanced at the body curled up at her side. He looks so... different now. It's still incredible to think that this person was actually the one behind the looming figure she encountered that night with Travis and Ryan. ...The thought of it still sends shivers down her spine, but now? It's like this was an entirely different being... and I suppose, he is. He is an entirely different being, he's just- not the same thing she saw that night, he just wasn't.

The whole concept of werewolves was still... interesting to her. Before her experience with Silas, she envisioned werewolves and people as two separate entities. Or at least, that's what she willed herself to believe. It was... to save Max. Everything she said and did and told herself was to save Max. If she let her conscience get in the way of things, that whole mess may have gotten a lot messier. And yet... But now... it's just... It's still too complicated for Laura to wrap her head around. Yes Silas is a werewolf and transforms into an indescribable beast once a month, but he is also this lonely kid who needs- deserves- someone to watch over him. He isn't game to be hunted.

Her jumbled and messy thoughts on the situation is minuscule compared to the role she had to assign herself for Silas. It's been days maybe weeks maybe months since she decided to set out with him. It was the safest thing for her to do, to "run away," anyway. Especially after what happened with the Hackett's. And especially after what happened to Travis and Ryan... What... Silas did to them. What he did to them as a werewolf. What she just couldn't do. Hiding out was the best option she could come up with.

Maybe... it was a rash decision on her part. But... after Max... nothing else in the world mattered. She doesn't give a shit about anything else. And if Silas is the only thing left to make Laura feel she has purpose in life? Even if she had nothing to do with him before that day? Then so be it. So fucking be it.

She's only here right now because of her werewolf's blood covered face. The werewolf's blood that... Ryan gave to her. His words haunt her. "If anyone deserves to get out of this alive, it's you." Did she really deserve to be the only one to get of this alive? Did she really? She's the reason why they met their fate. The images of Travis and Ryan mutilated on the forest floor stalk her memory. And Abigail's headless body on the pool house floor. And dear Max's limp body hung over Lake Septimus' dock. Why was she the one to live? Why must've it been her? It doesn't matter now. She needs to think about something other than all that. All that matters is Silas. He was all Laura could salvage from that fucking nightmare of a day. Even if she initially set out to end his life, due to Travis' persuasion. She won't be able to forgive herself for anything.

Laura finally took a moment to respond to Silas' expression. "I... understand what you mean." She stopped again. "Did you... want to talk about it?"
