The Sweetest Lullaby
There’s too many amazing characters to write about in this game! Dear god, please help my poor, incapacitated soul. Have some fluff~
Piers x reader, singing, fluffiest fluffs, unova talk
Piers always had a lovely voice. Pretty much everyone in Galar knew this for a fact. No one could resist it, no matter how hard they tried. If he were in a gym battle, he could scream and growl just as fiercely as the Obstagoon he commanded. But the side that people didn’t see as often was the beautiful serenades he could give. Yeah, everyone knew that he could play about a million different instruments, but when he pulled out a classical acoustic guitar was when the night got really special.
Your dates with Piers were pretty simple. As a person, he was laid back, shy, but compassionate. Contrary to his concerts, he didn’t need a whole lot of extravagance in his daily life. The two of you had been cuddling on the couch, watching a little movie in your apartment in Circhester, his Obsatgoon laying back up, feet flopped to the side in front of a cozy little fire. Of course, the fire wasn’t real, but it sounded, looked and generated heat just the same. Your Sylveon comfortably lazed about on Pier’s lap, and he absentmindedly stroked the blue fur.
Though, the entire time, Pier seemed distracted. He wasn’t necessarily focused on the movie at hand, and neither were you for that matter. His gaze kept moving towards the closet, and you wondered if he was just bothered by it being open. Eventually, you just shut off the tv, and he sent you a confused glance.
“Something wrong, love?” he asked, eyebrows furrowed.
You shrugged with a little smile. “Neither of us seemed real interested in the movie, so I figured I’d turn it off.”
A little blush appeared on his face, and he laughed nervously. “I... Sorry. I spotted something in your closet earlier, and I suppose my mind kept drifting to it.”
“Well, whatever it is, go and grab it! I wanna see what has piqued your interest so heavily.”
He smiled, standing up and making your Sylveon merp in protest, the pink eyes glazed over with drowsiness. After rummaging through the closet for a little bit, Piers emerged with a familiar case; a guitar case that you had long forgotten about was sitting in his hands, and he eagerly sat down and unzipped it. You had never heard Piers gasp before, but the one he made was so audible you were sure you were going to hear it in your dreams.
“Is this... what I think it is?”
He gingerly pulled out the guitar from the case, almost as if handling a bomb. A wide grin appeared on his face as he set the case on the ground and looked at the guitar in full. It was an acoustic guitar, but a beautiful one at that. The wood was all purple hart, and every little bit of metal had a brilliant, golden luster. There wasn’t a dent or scratch on the entire thing, and Piers seemed to be making sure that that was still the case. The fingerboard, instead of being purple hart wood, was a deep ebony wood, with the whole thing coming together with the signature of Roxie, the Unovan Poison type gym leader.
“This is... amazing.”
You giggled. “I had almost forgotten that was there. It was a gift from Roxie herself.”
His head whipped around with the biggest grin. “From Roxie?! How come you never told me? She’s one of my biggest idols! How did you even come to meet her?!”
Through giggles and countless questions, you explained to Piers that you weren’t actually from Galar, you were from Unova. Just like Piers, Roxie was a huge celebrity in Unova, and when you were an up and coming singer, she took you under her wing and gave you some lessons. This guitar was a parting gift from her when your family suddenly had to move to Galar for a job your father got. Piers was on the edge of his seat the whole time, like he had suddenly seen an angel.
“You have never told me about this... Why?”
You shrugged. “I figured that it was a long time ago, and that it wasn’t really going to come into play again.”
He looked at the guitar, and then back to you. “You... can sing?”
A swarm of butterflies suddenly arose in your stomach. Oh man, how long has it been since you’ve sung? Years, probably. All those lessons that Roxie had given you must’ve worn off by now. You sheepishly looked away, a small grin on your face that was mostly out of nervousness. It was the same feeling you had gotten when you first sang in front of Roxie but this was... different. This was the man you so dearly loved. And this man just so happened to be the top music star in Galar. How the hell was he going to react to you singing?
“I... I can, yes. It’s been a really long time, though. I don’t know how good I am anymore.”
You heard a small laugh from Pier’s direction, and looked up to see a sympathetic grin. If anyone knew anything about anxiety, it was him. You returned the grin, and he lightly patted the wood of the guitar.
“Do you mind if I play?”
You shook your head, adjusting your sitting position on the couch to watch him work his magic. He too adjusted to get comfortable with the guitar, and it felt like it just swayed to it’s will. Almost within seconds, the guitar was tuned properly, and he was strumming a familiar tune. Hallelujah was the song he chose to play, with his own little spin on it of course.
You found yourself closing your eyes as he began to sing, the guitar mixing beautifully with his voice. It was low, slightly gravely, yet held the same emotion as the song. But there was something... missing. A higher key. As the song went on, you found yourself humming along, before finally singing along with him.
Piers had finally found his angel. He didn’t dare stop you, because you sung so perfectly with him. Your voices danced around in a sensual tango, harmonizing beautifully with each other. You knew all the right words, the right notes, which notes to hold, which notes to put a vibrato into. It was... beautiful. Piers was entranced, so much so he almost forgot to sing at some points. The most beautiful voice was in front of him, her eyes closed and swaying in time to the music.
When you were done, the music left the air, but the magic didn’t. The two of you stared at each other, breathless almost, the silence indicating wonder and a strange new understanding. Something about music always brought two souls together. Piers lightly set the guitar back in his case, and wordlessly crawled over to you to give you the most passionate kiss he had ever given anyone. Thankfully, you didn’t protest. He needed you in this moment, because it was this moment that he knew he was going to bring you on stage sometime. And when he did that, he hoped that he would be able to introduce you as his gorgeous wife.

What is the game“Detective Pikachu” about?
Tumblr media
Hello! So this is going to be a long post.
Ever since the trailer was posted recently, I’ve seen a lot of reactions towards Detective Pikachu: The Movie. Most people know it’s based on the 2017 released 3DS game Detective Pikachu, few (of those) people have actually played it. I personally always understood why it was like that, but thought it was a pity because it’s filled with great details. Now my own opinion on the game aside, which is that I really love it, I felt like I should make an “extensive” info post on facts and things to know about the game! And I don’t care if this gets barely any notes - I just want to feel more peace knowing I tried explaining what the game is about! So here’s some facts, partially highlighting similarities and differences between game and (what we know of the) movie.
tl;dr In this post, I’ll explain what you should know about the game!
Premise
The very rough premise between the movie and the game seems exactly the same: A detective mystery in a world with Pokemon. (To unpromptedly point out a reason why I loved the game: There is a difference between the main games’ and lot of spinoffs’ setting, “Pokemon world”, and this game’s setting, “what a world much like ours would be like if it had actual Pokemon in it”.) Tim Goodman, young adult, comes to Ryme City after his father, Harry Goodman, went missing. His father was a detective last seen working on a tough case around Ryme City. But upon Tim’s arrival there he gets to know an odd Pikachu that only he is able to communicate with. They decide to team up, combining their wits to solve cases that slowly get them closer to the secret behind the case Harry has been last working on.
Tumblr media
Gameplay
Here’s the reason I think only few people have played the game or the people who played it weren’t violently recommending it: The cases are VERY easy to solve and the gameplay is rather simple even when still subjectively fun. Complexity is, precisely, age-wise ranging to be fit for smart 10 year olds until interested 16-year olds. This comes from the story being too complex to follow for younger kids really, but the writing style and happenings in the story and the gameplay being too silly and straightforward for a majority of anyone older to enjoy. A specific target audience. It’s a detective game by nature: As Tim, accompanied or instructed by Pikachu, you usually run around in a certain location after having stumbled across a case, asking the people present at that place about hints, testimonies and other related things. Not only humans can be asked as witnesses, even and especially Pokemon too, just as much as humans. You also check out things in the area to collect hints.
Tumblr media
Sometimes riddles have to be solved. The main gameplay revolves around working towards the answer to the big question of the case, like “Who was the culprit?”, by answering smaller questions leading to that, by finding evidence in things characters have said and things you’ve found. Rarely there’s simple quicktime events, for some reason, mostly in the middle of action cutscenes when a case isn’t done yet.
Simple facts about the game’s story
-Tim Goodman is actually a college student who also knows how to drive. (I felt like pointing this out. This dude looks like a lost 16 year old at the max.) -The story is 9 or so chapters long. In each a case is solved. -Literal only problem I had with the game: A major central story question was left open even until the very end. As in, not answered. (Still wondering whether the movie answers that and all related questions.) -Pikachu is the prominent main Pokemon role. Other Pokemon have side roles, some to a bigger degree than others, but Pikachu is very prominently the Spotlight Pokemon. -There’s a bunch of reoccurring important characters, such as friendly TV reporter Emilia Christie (who as far as I remember prominently is in every chapter?), levelheaded detective office boss Mike Baker, and others. -Only mild violence, as some age warnings say. Down to earth language. Zero murders, but themes like theft and more or less, vaguely, smuggling or black market.
Other facts about the game
-3D cartoon graphics overall. No dialogue sprites or 2D cutscenes or anything. -In general, it’s optically more bright and colorful rather than the opposite. (hint hint, the movie’s visuals are the COMPLETE opposite.) -Ryme City is the general location everything happens in and around, but the places specifically get rather diverse. You’ve got the city and the detective’s offices, sure, but there’s a park, a laboratory, a TV studio, an abandoned theme park, an island, and a cave, among other places. -The cases are pretty diverse too. -I feel like it’s important to highlight: Pokemon from all current 7 main gens make an appearance. Yes, indeed, Alola Pokemon are in there. On top of my mind I can think of a Mimikyu and a Brionne. (Ah yeah, there’s also Stufful for example.) But there’s Kalos pokemon like Fletchling and Phantump and Floette, Unova’s Trubbish and Chandelure and Solosis, Sinnoh’s Kricketune and Drifloon and Buneary, Hoenn’s Feebas and Metang and Tropius... and of course Johto and Kanto are there. Duh. This is just an excerpt - there’s honestly tons of Pokemon in there playing a role, even some unexpected ones.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-All cutscenes are fully (and nicely!) voiced, and what’s more, all Pokemon have voiced sounds even outside of them. For some reason the game has environmentally individual sound design in that regard, by which I mean that if you run with Tim next to a Pokemon, you’ll hear its sound louder than you would standing on the opposite side of the room. -This Pikachu is a coffee enthusiast (and as far as I remember a big cookie fan too). -This isn’t a game fact, but I don’t know why the Detective Pikachu amiibo is so huge. Someone please tell me.
Any other questions? Rambles? Definitely drop me a message!

Pokemon Self Ship AU
Tumblr media
Cue in the X & Y era Pokemon Anime Theme Song
Thanks to a bunch of Pokemon reblogs, memes and posts flying all over Tumblr (and especially those of my little precious PokeBirds and now Scorbunny & the other Galar starter Pokemon with Sword and Shield announced to be released by the end of the year), I’ve gotten the ‘Make a Pokemon self ship AU’ bug that I decided to make some stuff based around the Pokemon series. I tend to suck in mainline games, haven’t touch Pokemon Go beyond seeing videos and my folks playing it at one point, but I’m well aware of the franchise, know most of the Pokemon, and saw the Anime a couple of times. Note this AU won’t include anything related to Gen. 8 as Sword and Shield won’t be here until the end of this year, so hold your horses and watch out for spoilers, people! Here’s the long as heck of post of Pokemon AU headcanons:
Much of the main story here is in Kalos (the Gen. 6 region) and has both game and anime influences all over, though other regions will be featured in one form or the other, however me and my f/os are isolated from the story of both the X &Y game and anime for the most part. And yes, real life animals exist in here as well!
Mari hails from Cyllage City (the location of the Rock Gym in X and Y) in Kalos, but due to her job as a travel writer, she has been on the digital nomad’s life since finishing college. Her adopted siblings Harry and Kairi, her boyfriend Philip, and best friends Issa & Kirby join her in her journey all over the Pokemon world.
How did she met them: Harry and Kairi were adopted into Mari’s family when they were 11 (Harry), 9 (Mari), and 7 (Kairi) respectively after the social services brought the kids over to her family if they want to take them in: The Dursleys here were killed in a flash flood at Amberette Town (and were not nice people from what she has heard) while Kairi’s grandmother died from natural causes whereas her parents died young from unknown causes. The siblings met Issa (moved in from Hoenn) and Philip (moved in from Unova) through the Pokemon Summer Camp, while Kirby flew into the Tan house by accident. No really, that last one isn’t a joke. Issa and Harry have been dating since college and have yet to get engaged at the moment.
Mari works as a full time travel writer, which means she currently spends most of her time away from Cyllage City and sometimes from Kalos; she does write stories on the side as well. In addition, Harry works as a Pokemon Ranger, Issa is a journalist (she’s also Alexa’s co-worker so she does know Viola to an extant), Kairi is honing in her Pokemon Performer capabilities, Philip is now Professor Sycamore's assistant, and Kirby is, well, Kirby, enough said.
Despite the fact that Fennekin, Chespin, and Froakie are the starter Pokemon of Kalos, Mari, Harry, and Kairi ended up getting a Piplup, a Rowlet, and Torchic who’ve stowed in a cargo ship mischievously during the start of their Pokemon journey at 11, 13, and 9. The bird Pokemon sneaked into the Tan house at night, distracted by the scent of the food her mom was cooking then and she in turn panicked upon seeing the stray Pokemon wanting some of the dinner as well. They have since evolved into Empoleon, Decidueye, and Blaziken after years of training and evolving and act as the main leaders of their teams. Had Empoleon didn’t came into her life early on, she would’ve pick Fennekin as her starter Pokemon.
Many of Mari’s Pokemon are gained throughout her travels as a part of her travel blogger job: she gained a Gardevoir and a Roselia in Sinnoh as a Ralts and a Budew respectively, a Beautifly in Hoenn as a Wurmple, and an Alolan Vulpix in Alola. Only Empoleon and Umbreon (as an Eevee) were caught within Kalos, thought the former came about because of the starter birds sneaking into her childhood home years ago.
Since Mari didn’t plan on being a Pokemon Performer unlike Kairi, she decided to do Gym Battles in Kalos whenever she is at home, though she isn’t going to enter the Kalos Pokemon League any time soon in the near future. So far, she has the Bug, Cliff, Plant, Voltage, and Fairy badges: she hasn’t earned the Rumble, Psychic, and Snowflake badges.
She just so happens to be good friends with Clemont and Bonnie in this AU, although she didn’t knew of their adventures with Ash, Pikachu, and Serena until she was visiting Kanto near the end of the main game/anime storyline wherein Clement sent her an email about what happened during their journey around Kalos.
Almost every other F/O of mine are either in Cyllage City or in Lumiose City in this AU.
Believe it or not, Mari had an encounter with Diancie when she was 6 when her family visited Terminus Cave on a family trip. While she was exploring the cave, she was nearly blinded by the pink aura Diancie gives off and got a good glimpse of the Jewel Pokemon before she (This particular Diancie here is a girl, so…) vanished from her sight. Since then, she vowed to meet her again and hopefully catch her as an integral part of her team. This is what caused her high school blind date to dump her because he literally thought she was this insane to think that she saw Diancie face to face; his FC is this guy from the same group as Mari’s FC.

-dramatically sighs-
I’ve been thinking a little WAY to much about Pokemon self-insert stuff so I’m just gonna blab about it on this blog in hopes that those thoughts will lessen:
So like.. my self-insert is named after me (because you know, no shame) and they live in Kalos (with some vague affiliations to Alola and possibly Unova, I think since Unova is kinda like New York or so everyone says), and there they run a cafe name 'Bataille Du Jour' which is french for 'Battle of the Day'. It's a cafe that serves food and drinks for Humans and Pokemon alike. (The staff is also a mix of humans and pokemon.) Towards the weekends or on reserved days, they host battles as well.
Random plot stuff under the cut?? Just putting the notes down you feel
Mentions of my brother:
So like, my IRL brother's been like.... pro Team Rocket since like day 1. Hands down, he has always believed in selling Pokemon to be a right thing, like I even remember this one time I was telling him about the new game and he was like-- "Are one of the new features that you get to sell your Pokemon??" and he was just so. legitimately happy with the idea- like my brother, who is usually monotone- actually got some emotion in his voice it was amazing and baffling at the same time (and then I bursted his bubble lmfao)
SO taking that, I put him in a kinda villain role? (kinda) And so-
The Previous Story (feat. with IRL Brother):
Years before Jones lived in Kalos they lived in _____ (TBA). During that time, Jones lived in a closed knit family and her older (and only) brother Phineas, Phineas was a major bread winner for the family. No one really knew what his job was as he was busy most of the time and couldn’t be bothered to answer as well as whatever it was he was successful at it. It also wasn’t questioned because the family used this is lived to live... rather comfortably. (Due to his smarts, he was also the one to handle the finances of the family.)
However, one day, Jones is set to leave on a trip. Not to leave on a Pokemon journey, no, but in all case and purposes, she doesn’t feel that it would be well to take her Pokemon with her. Due to Phineas’ reputation, she assumes it’s safe to leave their Pokemon with him. Despite his reputation however, it is not long that after Jones does this and returns from her trip that she notices something.... off with her Pokemon. Suspicious, she goes into investigating Phineas without him finding out (somehow). Through a chain of dark and dangerous event, the truth is revealed to Jones that Phineas has been working for ____, an evil organization that performs experiments on Pokemon to make them stronger and then sell them for profit on the black market or force them into illegal fighting rings.
💫 During these ‘Dark and Dangerous Events’, Jones catches a lead and infiltrates the evil organization. However, they are captured and used for experiments before she is rescued by a ‘mysterious figure’ that even in later plots, they cannot remember.
Of course that doesn't bode well with Jones, and things get ugly fast once Phineas is confronted. In the end an argument erupts between the two and a Pokemon Battle, take place during a cruel, unforgiving stormy night between a question of what surviving really entails. During the battle it is revealed that Phineas not completely in control of his position in job despite his ranking of Admin and that he was also being used for experiments to see how people would fare with Pokemon DNA within them/being able to fight like Pokemon (having Pokemon moves, abilities, etc.).
Fueled by anger and sadness, Jones ends up winning the fight, but Phineas runs away, making Jones chase him after him. By the end of the chase, Phineas is backed to a cliff side. However, instead of giving himself up as the police are arriving, he follows orders from his Boss (due to a hypnotized trigger being pulled) and literally jumps to his death to get rid of the evidence, leaving Jones in shock as the police arrive from the commotion.
💫 Phineas jumps while leaving his Pokemon Team on the cliff side-- meaning he didn't take them with him to his death. Unknowing what to do and fearing the worse for the Pokemon (fearing that they would be put down because of their now overly violent nature and lack of owner to control them), Jones return those Pokemon into their pokeballs. However, since they were witness and participants to the fight, they grew to resent Jones for the downfall of their Trainer. Due to this, they're mainly keep in their pokeballs.
Shortly after the battle, money started disappearing in the family and Jones, who was last seen with the MIA Phineas, was to blame. Not wanting to be the center of such hatred and fearing that the organization would came back for her, Jones gathers her things and Pokemon (as well as her brother’s pokemon) and moves away one day without telling anyone. It’s a rocky leave, but in the end after years of travelling, they find themselves in Kalos where they start living a peaceful life and soon after open their cafe, Bataille Du Jour with hopes to give smiles and delicious food to people as well as a secret hope that no one in their past catches up to them...
Pieces of the event(s) still effect them as they learn that they were slowly developing Pokemon-like powers (such as moves and abilities like her brother). These powers, though scary at first, have been nothing but a ‘troublesome joy’ to them as no matter how much time has passed, Jones has not gotten used to them. Despite this, Jones does well to hide this fact from the public, though there is more of a ‘What will happen’ kind of fear playing into that, her Pokemon the only ones knowing of her powers. They have/will be used for self-defense, or for a trump card in a dangerous situation.
💫 Jones’ power(s) may be along the lines of the move PSYCHIC (with an Unknown Pokemon ability). (Though there was always a thought of Jones knowing HYPER BEAM because that’s just hilarious for some reason)
💫 Jones has always thought at least once of fighting in an actual Pokemon Battle, but she has never seen anyone that she trusts to show her powers too. Because of this, she sometimes spares with her Pokemon.
💫 Due to the events however, Jones is not too... keen on Pokemon Battles. Don’t get her wrong, she loves them, they’re very aesthetically pleasing to watch, but if she is in one and she feels like the Pokemon are pushing themselves too hard or the battle is being too rough on them, she’ll call off instantly.
