Ren - "Every moment of NU'EST activities was genuine, I'll become a great artist" (X's Interview - 3)

Ren (Choi Mingi), who plays Hyunbin in the musical Bungee Jumping of Their Own, shows his affection for his sunbaes who cherished and took care of him.
"Leo-hyung (Jung Taekwoon), who plays Inwoo, went down the musical path as an idol and has been in a lot of productions so he knows how hard it is. That was the first thing that he made me understand. He gave me a lot of advice about different things, like the attitude that I need to have moving forward so I can be acknowledged in musicals. He also taught me about the basics. (Jo) Seongyun-hyung told me to focus on the scene every time it changes. Don't overthink and just stay true to the scene. There were a lot of times when I couldn't see things from up close, so that was a huge help.
(Lee) Changyong-hyung gave me a lot of life advice as an actor and as a person. He talked a lot about his own experiences. I'm 28 now, which is quite a confusing period, I think. We had a lot of deep conversations about what life is going to be like from now on. We also drink often. Though we're 12 years apart in age, we can communicate really well. I also have a mature side. I can be childish, but underneath all that, I have some deep thoughts."
Ren debuted in 2012 as a member of NU'EST and then as a musical actor when he was chosen to play the lead in Jamie (2020). With Hedwig (2021), which has starred famous actors like Jo Seungwoo and Jo Jeongseok, and now with Bungee Jumping of Their Own, he is building is filmography.
"When I was in Jamie, I think Director Shin Seorin and the audience went easy on me. I take responsibility for my work though. I think my tendency towards perfectionism has led me this far. Hedwig helped a lot. My energy was literally explosive and pulled me along with it. The show's running time was about 2 hours and 40 minutes. There's no intermission. I worried if I could do it at first but somehow I was already doing it. I worked so hard I was bleeding."
Bungee Jumping of Their Own gives off a distinctly different feel from Jamie and Hedwig, which have a more showy atmosphere as musicals.
"I always carry the energy I had when I was in Hedwig. I have an explosive energy and I love just letting it out. Jamie and Hedwig really suited me. In Bungee Jumping of Their Own, I'm playing an 18-year-old. Just from looking at parts of it, the feel was so different that I worried whether I could do well. Even though I was scared, I had a strong mindset to take it on. We only live once, right? I want to try everything and live an interesting life."
Having done three shows, he's definitely grown a lot.
"The first Jamie show feels different from the first Bungee Jumping of Their Own show. In Jamie, I felt like I had to put the fire out quickly, let's put the fire out first. I was so nervous and jumpy and tense. I was so busy putting out the fire in whatever scene I was doing, but now I've chilled out a lot. Experience is important, I think."
When asked about what he thinks his strengths are as a musical actor, he pointed to his explosive energy.
"I'm really happy that I'm able to show the public my energy. I've held in and pushed down a lot this whole time. When I was promoting in a group, there was the group image to think of, and I had a position and responsibility in the group, so I couldn't go overboard. I think I can be natural and have fun when it comes to musicals.
Later on, I want to try being in The Man Who Laughs. I watched (EXO) Suho-hyung in that show and I wanted to try it too. I also want to try Sweeney Todd. It's quite charming and has a really distinct style, and I think I can pull it off. I'm really good at acting like I'm possessed. Since my life is a musical, I'll be able to do it well."
He still gets along well with the NU'EST (Kim Jonghyeon, Aaron, Baekho, Minhyun, Ren) members even after disbandment.
"The members and I are on good terms. They haven't come to see Bungee Jumping of Their Own yet but they came to all my previous shows and said complimented me and said I did really well. Sometimes we talk about our lives when we go out to eat. I was able to go into musicals because I was in NU'EST, and it's given me so much help and experience for whatever I choose to do.
When I was promoting in a group, there were five of us, so there was someone for me to lean on, but now I don't have anyone to depend on but myself. When I was in a team, we could help each other when there was a problem, but when there's a problem on stage, I have to take care of it on my own. There's a big emptiness."
If NU'EST was the invaluable first act of Ren's life, he's now officially opening the second act as a solo artist.
"Like people's lives, nothing lasts forever. Though there's some sadness, I feel relieved and refreshed. I think every moment was genuine while we were promoting as NU'EST, and we worked so hard and gave our all. So I have no regrets. Expect that I'll keep doing my best moving forward, and I hope to become an influential artist who gives my fans good synergy while enjoying what I do."
In order to become a good artist, Ren is striving toward his own goals.
"I want to become a singer of a genre that only I can do. I usually like dance and pop songs more than ballads. Of course, at this point it's still a vague dream and quite abstract, but if there are people who'll accept and acknowledge me, I think it will be fun. As an actor, I want to touch people's hearts. Variety shows, dramas, movies - there are a lot of things I want to do."

They don’t all sound like new groups I think. Project Advent might be related to Project Origin, so encompass its own groups and lore. I’d be disappointed if they launch a new lore system when Project Origin isn’t complete yet.
Story of Our Youth is such a long name. I also don’t think it could be for a group lol
LUMINA sounds like a girl group. Could it be for the current girls on Future Dreams? They are so good, I think they would make a great group. Even Decoris/Chaos could fit a girl group. Maybe something like V&A’s concept? But they don’t have enough girls in FD to support another group like that...
MZSD might have something to do with DBSD? lmao, i’m still hoping they don’t all enlist together. the 3 youngest (hyunbin, seohan and shin) could promote as a unit under this name i think. wishful thinking i guess...
NOVA Iuventa is such a mouthful LMAO. I can’t even think of what they want to do with such a name. I just hope its not for a group, because with that name alone, it would flop.

WHAT ARE THE TOP 5 MOST USED APPS ON YOUR PHONE?
"Ahh..." His voice trails off, reaching for his phone inside the pocket of his leather jacket. "I don't know if I should answer this honestly, or pretend that I'm a chronic cell-phone user. Am I too boring?" He unlocks the phone screen with ease, swiping through the pages where the applications were positioned next to each other. "I had a conversation with a friend about how it's frustrating when an application accidentally moves on the screen and your mind either recalls where the application was before, or takes a bit to get used to the new placement." He presses his lips into a firm line, thumbing the power button to lock the screen. "But that happens in a while because I've been using my phone less. I would say... I use KakaoTalk the most, Melon comes second, Youtube is in third place, Naver or Google will be fourth, and sadly, my university application will be in fifth place to submit my assignments two minutes before midnight." He softly laughs, straightening his posture for a moment before relaxing once more on the stool. "I would recommend moving the applications around on your phone. It becomes apparent which applications you should start using less."
WHAT IS THE MOST RANDOM NOTE IN THE NOTES APP?
"I'm probably not the only one that opens the notes app, writes something, and then forgets about it, right?" After his facial identification declines, he unlocks the phone with the passcode, scrunching his nose slightly whilst he scrolls through the first few notes. "If I'm not carrying my journal with me, I tend to use the notes app to write ideas that come to me or unfinished lyrics." He skipped through all the late-night musings he had, especially the ones he wrote when he was barely awake. He didn't want to embarrass himself. "I have a recipe for how to make rice without a rice cooker. It's all over the place... I don't think I've ever tried to make it, and this recipe doesn't seem to be useful. Wait— did I even write this?" Maybe it was best if he deleted it unless he wanted to set his dorm on fire.
WHAT WAS THE LAST MESSAGE OR CALL YOU’VE RECEIVED AND WHO WAS IS FROM?
"The last message I received was from my father. His contact profile is saved under '사장님.' I was letting him know that I wouldn't be able to pick up any more work shifts for the rest of the year. He answered that he understood and a 'thumbs up' emoji. He is not really talkative over the phone." He nods his head, crossing his arms over his chest while he switches focus without being prompted. "My sister called me after the concert and was teasing me about being on stage for the final concert. It's her way of saying I looked cool on stage. She asked me if I could get signatures from the V&A members and I hung up the call. Sometimes, it's best to keep sibling moments sweet and short, you know?"
WHAT WERE THE LAST 5 SONGS THAT YOU’VE LISTENED TO?
Finally, a question that he would enjoy answering. His facial features brighten when he unlocks the phone to search for his newest playlist. "I have a playlist for pretty much anything, but my playlist for when I commute anywhere is my favorite. The last five songs that I listened to on my way to the company were: 'joke!' by Se So Neon, 'Diamonds + And Pearls' by Hyunbin, Shin, and Seohan, 'MIA' by Gemini, Camo, and Woodz, 'Anemone' by Lee Youngji and Layone, and the newest addition is 'Rush Hour' by Crush and J-Hope." He beams at the person in front of him, slightly tilting his head when he sways on the stool from subdued excitement. "I would recommend any of those songs if you want to spice up your playlist, especially the one by DBSD members."
WHAT WERE THE 5 MOST RECENT ONLINE SEARCHES?
"My most recent searches were: guitar lessons because I've been thinking about learning an instrument on my own, fleece jacket is self-explanatory and not exciting, LGC Family Concert—" He pauses, lifting his hand to scratch at his cheek before a soft laugh escapes past his lips. "I wanted to see if videos were uploaded of the performances I took part in. I promise that I'm not narcissistic. I was just proud." He gives the other person a one-shoulder shrug, glancing back down at the phone screen. "Also, I have searched yaksha: ruthless operations, and do mosquitos die after drawing blood. The last one is a myth, but I had a bet with my brother that they didn't die. He owes me a coffee whenever we see each other."

CAÔ NA MÍDIA.
Tudo aparentava estar em seus devidos conformes, com o nome do condomínio obtendo cada vez mais prestígio na mídia, ainda levando em consideração o último evento que ocorreu, do qual foi o suficiente para gerar inúmeras matérias positivas pelo Naver e atrair comentários maravilhosos dos netizens. Em todo lugar se falava sobre o prestigiado Nikos, um estrangeiro que, não apenas prometia, mas também cumpria toda a mistura de culturas da maneira mais informativa e interativa que poderia existir dentro do complexo recém recuperado.
Com a semana de descanso após a festa, tudo o que o grego pretendia era relaxar em sua banheira de hidromassagem, bebendo do melhor vinho, enquanto pensava nas próximas atividades que proporcionaria para seus moradores, entretanto, não era exatamente isso que iria acontecer. Durante o final de semana, uma bomba de artigos e alertas foram espalhados pelas redes sociais, alegando a possibilidade de um dos prédios do condomínio estar com um enorme risco de desabamento e, a chuva de notificações, que antes eram elogios, rapidamente se tornaram acusações, críticas à má manutenção, dentre outros, tudo isso devido a alguns relatos de moradores sobre encontrarem rachaduras e escutarem ruídos suspeitos durante as andanças pelas estruturas do local. Fotos? Não havia nenhuma. Os nomes dos que relataram? Sequer estavam incluídos no banco de dados do condomínio, mas o proprietário não poderia apenas deixar passar batido. A internet sempre foi muito fácil de mudar de opinião, ainda mais se tratando de um efeito manada e, esse tipo de efeito, com certeza iria trazer muito mais prejuízos, tanto economicamente, quanto em relação à credibilidade e confiança de seus condôminos.
Se tornou ainda mais sério quando, em plena manhã de segunda-feira, dia 14, a prefeitura enviou um comunicado solicitando uma intervenção imediata, prezando pela segurança, não apenas dos moradores do condomínio, mas também para o que mais poderia ocasionar se houvesse um desabamento, afinal, o complexo localizava-se entre os prédios comerciais da tão luxuosa Gangnam-gu, se o risco era real, então se transformaria em uma catástrofe. Todos os blocos precisavam ser imediatamente isolados para que uma inspeção minuciosa fosse feita e, com o intuito de não deixar os moradores na mão, foi liberado o total de 16 quartos no hotel próximo, chamado Park Hyatt, para que fossem ocupados durante aquele período de necessidade.
Sendo assim, por volta das 11h00, os guardas do condomínio foram, de porta em porta, ajudar a retirar cada um dos habitantes de suas casas, a fim de levá-los até os seus aposentos temporários que se encontrava a algumas quadras de Acropolis, a princípio, não era necessário levarem todos os seus pertences, apenas o necessário para uma curta estadia no hotel.
