Sharks have been in existence for the last 400 million years. That’s 200 million years before dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
Caribbean Shark
The whale shark is the largest fish in the ocean.
Juvenile Whale Shark
There are almost 400 species of sharks that come in all shapes, sizes and even colors.
St. Martin Shark
Sharks keep the ocean ecosystem in balance. If sharks disappeared, fish…
These islets and archipelagos are part of the Galápagos Islands and Maxar’s imagery captures the teal shallows and deep blue shelf drop offs. This is always a favorite area to watch during #sharkfest which we are roughly halfway to the next one. I’ve always been scared of sharks. But I’m a big believer in facing my fears, not letting them stop me. I was scared of starting a business, scared of starting a podcast, scared of others’ judgement, scared of not being good enough, scared, scared, scared. But you can’t be BRAVE without fear, right? In training for this Sunday’s 2K race @sharkfestswim , I’ve had to dig deep into my mindset toolbox. On the day of the race, there will be so many people, I have no fear of sharks, but in training, it’s just @stefanieswims , sometimes one other friend, and I. I’m the shadows and seaweed, the mind plays tricks on you quickly. So I try these psych hacks to face my fear… - “Name it to tame it” (a la Dan Siegel). My self-talk: “I see you fear! I hear you. You are trying to protect me, but I am safe.” - Challenge with logic: “The worst thing that could happen is the least likely. My self-talk: “Millions of people swim in the ocean safely. There have only been 14 total shark attacks in my area since 1950.” - Worst case scenario (this one is a bit morbid, I’ll admit, but it’s freeing, nonetheless. Self talk: “If it’s my time, it’s my time! If I get bit, I’ll be in shock and won’t feel anything anyway.” - Visualization. I picture myself punching a shark in the nose and swimming away. What are YOU afraid of? What’s one fear you want to face? You’ve got this! Many sharks in Socorro Islands
Socorro Islands are a small group of islands about 350 miles off Mexico’s western coast.
Scuba divers make the journey to dive with sharks, mantas and whales.
This is a short clip of some of the sharks we observed during the week.
So I might go out again before the week is out (or early next week) lmao. I might venture to Birmingham and more specifically the aquarium there. I haven’t been since I was a child! I love aquariums so it’s a travesty really. Or I might go to digbeth and the Arcadian or a myriad other places I haven’t been in many years because of my bad back.
I really wanna go explore gas street basin area and the aquarium the most though. Get some posh nosh and also see some fishies and otters and other sea creatures!!
