Now that I'm reading One Piece, let me say this: even when I think One Piece is better written, the comparison between both mangas in their pre timeskip period is often done poorly.
Naruto decides to be immediately a more explicit and visceral story in terms of cruelty, with a main cast of 12 year old children. While One Piece takes its time building the foundation for its characters and future arcs, Naruto jumps right into the issue at hand. The first chapter is practically spelling it out to you, the reason why Naruto could and even should be a villain, given the circumstances. He's a sad sight, the loneliness and general dark feelings coating Naruto as a story are strong from the very start. I'm not saying that One Piece doesn't have a lot of dark themes and feelings too, but Oda style is to use comedy and good humor to balance it first. One Piece is lighter at the beginning.
For example, compare the East Blue saga and the Land of the Waves arc. Unfair, I know, but I want to prove a certain point here.
Each arc of the East Blue has a bit of cruelty in it, the worst being Arlong Park. In the 3 first arcs, when Luffy meets his three first nakamas, we can say it is more comedy than tragedy. No one dies, there is cruelty and battles, but it's kept on the "safe side". The villains are shown to be more "evil" than anything else. Morgan, Buggy and Kuro are pirates after all. Then they reach the Baratie and things start to get serious. Sanji's backstory is heavy (everything Sanji and Zeff went through is dark, from the starvation to the amputation and the grey scale of their animosity turned bond). You have the first hint at Nami's complexity as a character, you get a taste of the Grand Line in the Mihawk and Zoro encounter where Zoro almost dies, there's explicit sacrifice...
Like I said, Arlong Park is the worst of it all. The story of the town, of Bell-Mere and her children, of what the fish-men did to Nami... It would be incorrect to say that comedy is out aside. First of all, because one of the most common purposes of comedy is to build the ground for drama. You will need a light mood to present the gravity of the situation at hand. The reader must be desperate to see the characters laughing and joking again, to recover the good times, to preserve the bonds and friendships. All the previous arcs needed to be so silly for Arlong Park to be impactful. Nami lived through hell. There's war and discrimination, abuse, manipulation, government corruption and betrayal. I'd never dare to say it's a light arc.
With Naruto, it's like they went straight to their own Arlong Park. It doesn't get clearer than the explanation Tazuna gave about what was going on with Kato and the bridge. They step out of the gates and there's an assassination attempt where Kakashi pretends to get explicitly murdered in front of the kids so he can figure out what they're dealing with. You have the story of how the local town hero was basically crucified to get his arms ripped by Kato's men. Hell, before all of these you have things like the Uchiha massacre and Sasuke saying his goal is to kill someone.
Then the top of the cake: Zabuza and Haku. They end up dead, both of them. Suddenly the enemy is not just "evil" or "ambitious" but also very very human. Kids killing kids or refusing to kill kids, it's a nightmare. Kakashi kills Haku with a chidori to the chest and the manga lingers on the blood of it all. There's a panel when Sasuke takes a hit meant for Naruto— the visual impact is insane. That one panel of Naruto awakening the kyubi's chakra and threatening to kill Haku? This is not a story about pirates and treasures and dreams. This is a story about survival and murder and duty, where a kid happens to want to dream above all the misery of his world.
Compare now the Arabasta saga and the Chuning Exams. Both are about politics, foul play to take a country/hidden village down, how normal people are nothing but pieces of a bigger game, how the world is baster and more dangerous than anyone could ever imagine.
The difference is that the straw hats choose to participate and choose how to do so. Every step is one they take conscious of the risk. They are teenagers still, sure, but they have their agency and they're powerful enough to not let anyone else push them around. They're at the heart of the conflict, they know what's going on behind the curtains. One Piece is about freedom, something that people in Naruto clearly lack. Even when there's death and sacrifices and a lot of cruelty, it's shown differently than in Naruto.
Team 7 gets thrown into the mess of Konoha's crush knowing nothing. The Chunning Exams are a shit show. The horror of Orochimaru and the cursed mark, the Hyuuga's plotline about family branches and slavery, arms exploding, Rock Lee's fight, Hiruzen's death, Gaara's backstory... Team 7 (at least the kids) move on such a different scale. It's terrifying. The Chunning Exams are war in a micro scale, designed to keep the power balance using their lower class soldiers, children included.
I can keep going, but well. I feel like I made my point clear with this post.
While Naruto's story pace is faster, the characters and the themes aren't rushed per se. It fits that in a world in constant conflict, things keep coming faster and the characters can't catch a break. The journey of the straw hats allows them more time to build the foundations of the crew, going from island to island. The way the stories are told are different too, so it'd be futile to compare them if you don't acknowledge that. What are the core values of the story? What is the general feeling? What is it trying to tell and how it corresponds to the way the story is told?
You either ask yourself those questions or you'll get a half-assed analysis, at most.

A somewhat out of context and silly comment (I'm sleep deprived lol) , but it occurred to me that Shigaraki is in his Madara Uchiha phase.
The "Me alone against everyone™"
And I'm delighted (a little worried, though, I'm not going to lie)

I don't know if you are aware of the can of worms you were opening anon and I apologize in advance LOL, but I have a lot to say here.
I'll be honest with you, there are two characters who, to me, seemed to be the "Shigaraki" of Naruto, and Madara was absolutely not one of them.
Before I go on that spiel myself, there was someone else who shared your concerns before, and @villainsandvictimsalliance gave a WONDERFUL break down of how that doesn't really fit. I highly highly recommend giving this post a read, Shan put my thoughts into words.
But I'm gonna put my own two cents in on this too, because I've been meaning to make a big Naruto vs. BNHA post (comparing the characters and arcs, etc.) but I haven't had the motivation or time. But I'll comment on Shigaraki/Deku specifically, and expand on what Shan said about them:
The two characters in Naruto that seem to have played into Shigaraki's arc in BNHA, to me (meaning my opinion), are:
Obito Uchiha
Sasuke Uchiha
Obito's doesn't go too far beyond surface level similarities though.
Being "taken in" and groomed to believe a certain POV, and take out that destructive (albeit, understandable) POV on the world and everyone in it.
Madara, to me, reads more as the AFO in Naruto. There's the brotherhood/estranged friend divide that brought about his actions (him and Hashirama being close and loving each other at one point, and then separating due to ideals---> AFO/Yoichi). That's a basic explanation because Madara had concerns that ended up being proven valid in the end (discrimination against the Uchiha), so Madara is not as simple and one-dimensional as AFO. But still played the "grooming the helpless, unsuspecting child" role in Naruto, and even had Obito use his own name throughout the story (AFO having Tenko take on his own last name).
But for Obito, being groomed and manipulated is kind of the only similarity between him and Shigaraki. Because Obito THEN goes on and targets Sasuke. Obito is the adult in this situation, and Sasuke is the unsuspecting child with easily manipulated emotions. Obito just carried on the generational trauma.
Also, Obito honestly is more of an inspiration for Kurogiri in BNHA than anything. Aizawa is absolutely based off of Kakashi (they act the same, their introductions are similar, they're both laid back and chill and collected), and Obito being the long-dead friend of the students' teacher is just....too on the nose. Kurogiri is the Obito of BNHA.
Now I wanna go back to Sasuke, who I personally think is the Shigaraki of Naruto.
There's obvious differences (there isn't really an Itachi in Shigaraki's arc), but there are more similarities between Naruto/Sasuke and Shigaraki/Deku than there are differences:
As Shan said, two halves of one whole. Naruto is the sun and Sasuke is the moon. And then for Shigaraki and Midoriya, well, it doesn't get more obvious than One for All, and All for One!
And then in this somewhat of a joke (but not really) post I made, @helga-grinduil pointed out the similarities in the color choices for both Shigaraki/Midoriya and Naruto/Sasuke
There's the looooongggg brother feud between Ashura and Indra that was carried down to Sasuke and Naruto, where they both had to reconcile not only both of those brothers, but also the Uchihas and the rest of Konoha. And then of course in BNHA Shigaraki and Midoriya are tasked with reconciling the loooong brother feud of AFO and Yoichi. But also together they're reconciling the rest of society and the LOV.
And then, idk, there's just similar art pieces like these two:
So, idk if this helps. But, I'm not worried at all about Shigaraki getting any ending similar to Madara (or Obito).
I really do think BNHA is gonna end like Naruto did. Aizawa giving the same pep talk he gave to Aoyama to the LOV, or Shigaraki at the least, and then saying that the help they contributed outweighs the damage they did and therefore, they have a second chance. And then everyone lives happily ever after together lolol.
I'm optimistic, honestly. And if it starts to take a grim dark turn (which I don't see happening), then I'll voice that and drop the series. But my opinion on the series is riding on the Shigaraki/Deku, Touya/Shouto, and Toga/Ochacko plots resolving with a happy ending where they're all together in the end, so if I see reason to think it won't go down the way I want, well, I'm out.
But again, I think it will be okay in the end!

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I absolutely do....even if it takes me a minute. I love reading the comments that come to my email, but since those usually reach me away from my computer, I tend to....forget until I log in to publish something.
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
That’s a tough one, but I’ll have to go with Soul of the Bes’bev. It ends with Fynta being forced to acknowledge out loud the lengths that she’s willing to go to, to the one person that she never wants to disappoint.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
I mean...are we talking smut? Because all of those have happy endings. No? Okay then how about Shenanigans. This fic will always have a special place in my heart.
7. Do you write crossovers?
I have been known to dabble. The only one currently posted is SWTOR/Naruto crossover shared with @dimigex involving the disasters that are Fynta Wolfe, Theron Shan, Genma Shiranui, and Kakashi Hatake. The aptly named Tounge-in-Cheek
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
One person disagreed with my interpretation of Ma’at as a slave to her families’ expectations rather than a proper slave in Sithy Bunch, but I’d hardy call it hate.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Do I write smut, haha. Yes, actually, I do. Mostly aggressive given my main subject matter. It is also playful or a way to express deep emotion that must never be spoken aloud because scary. There is lots of flirting, plenty of biting, and satisfaction for all.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not in the sense that someone specifically singled it out. Just that it’s shown up on websites without my permission.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not to my knowledge.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have, it’s always a fun experience. Namely, Thunder and Scars with @kunoichi-ume and Rules of Engagement with @tishinada
I also have several series where each of us writes a chapter and posts it into the same story with Ume, Dimi, and Tish as well.
13. What’s your all time favourite ship?
I’ll never get enough of these two. Art by the amazing @dingoat
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
Sadly, probably Generations of War, the continuation of Our Own that introduces Quinn/Sith Warrior and their 4, head strong and very Force sensitive daughters alongside Jorgan’s triplets. I love the story so much, but I have absolutely no idea where to take it. Waht I have published though can be found >HERE<
15. What are your writing strengths?
Action scene, without a doubt. I enjoy writing the flow of a battle or just movement in general.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
All the squishy, gushy stuff that makes of a romance. Legit, I struggle hard with feelings.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I’ve written a lot of Mando’a into my fics. It was daunting at first, then became fun when I needed to figure out how to string something together to make phrase that wasn’t pre-generated by the online dictionary.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Probably SWTOR
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet, but want to?
Gears of War. Man, I love those stories so so much, but I just...haven’t written anything for it. I reread their books once a year though.
20. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
I’m going to have to say my Meet Me on the Battlefield series. I don’t even know how many years I’ve been working on this, but I’m into the final book (that I will finished damn it.) with a few in between novellas, if you want to call them that?

What proof is that Sakura is popular in Japan? Gimme proof, that's literally all I'm asking.
I don’t really get into the popularity arguments so I had to do some research on this and get help from somebody else.
For starters, On pixiv, the Japanese tag for Sakura, she has more works than any other main character or pairing, even more than Sasuke and Naruto, Hinata, Kakashi, etc, as well as SasuSaku.
Although it’s China, there was a Sakura Haruno exhibit in Shanghai. (Info on that can be found here)

Non-romantic Naruto fanfics are deadly beloved by me, because some authors worry so much on pressuring the love part, the rest feels hollow.
Even beyond friendship, the desire to connect with others and find hope in companionship is really important. Especially because they are submerge on a warlike environment, surrounded by death and despair. At some point it becomes more about finding some support in order to survive the horrors around you and less about if you'd ever choose to share some experiences.
That's why Naruto's emphasis in bonds and partnerships clearly works on its context.

So who thought Sasuke was going to win the fight? Honestly, with as many abilities as Sasuke has, I had a hard time figuring out the whole fight choreo, and I’m not the best at writing action in the first place. Somehow, there’s a lot more action in this fic than I was anticipating .___. The author handwaved a lot of it with a sentence or two in the original light novel, and the scenes in drama are expensive to film, but I REFUSE TO COMPROMISE....
So I torment myself and my Beta, writing things I’m not good at. Sorry Reg... Plus since I decided to use the Narutoverse as the game instead of the original Wuxia/Martial arts game setting, I can’t even steal their choreo. However, I do owe a debt of gratitude to all the Naruto Shippuden players who post their fights on youtube - you guys are the bomb.
It was fun though! I like watching Sakura beat the crap out of Sasuke, and this whole the fight scene is virtual, so it doesn’t actually hurt, lol (unlike actual canon).
And we get introduced to the guys! Their Naruto Character to Love O2O role mapping is a bit more fluid than the girls, because honestly the three of them are a bit interchangeable in the drama. Roughly, the mappings are (and I’ll give you the usernames while I’m at it):
