New dress. Another new dress to add to the wardrobe, not sure I have the space! I saw this denim cotton on holiday and had to get some. I had seen various denim style dresses and thought this would be perfect. It has a fair bit of stretch and is pretty drapey. I spent a while deciding on the style. I wanted something casual for a summery day. I decided on an elastic waist, turned over sleeves with tabs and buttons on the front and sleeve tabs. I then spent an age choosing buttons, can you tell I'm a bit indecisive?! I choose some vintage pink ones in the end that came from my stash, a mixture of both my Nans' buttons and others I've bought or collected over the years. I put in side seam pockets, because who doesn't love a pocket? I did have some issues with this, welcome to the world of self drafted patterns. I used a batwing pattern I had previously made as a starting point. Though this was for stretch fabric and a bit of a different style. The neckline ended up being way too wide, so had to add fabric back in around the neckline after much deliberation, plus I took it in some more at the neckline. Way too much use of the seam ripper and this was supposed to be a simple make!! Though I end up making it complicated anyway by adding pockets, buttons, sleeve tabs etc anyhow. I also added a front pleats, where did like 2 inches of extra fabric come from?! Next time I must go back to starting with a standard bodice block pattern as a starting point. I'm now finally happy with it, I think, the proof will be in how comfy it is and good it looks on and how much I wear it!
