re: rhinky thoughts and songs, i stumbled across looking like you just woke up by the front bottoms. and you can't tell me that it's not a rhett/link song. not genre wise (pop punk as it is) but lyrically? where the first verse is from rhett's POV and the second from link's and the chorus is just... too much:

Thank you for being so patient! You didn't sound impatient at all, I'm just always guilty about how long I hoard nice asks. Nothing on you at all! Plus, I honestly wanted to listen to the song while I replied and every time I had free time to answer, I wasn't in the position to listen while I did.
But: you're right! It totally does! It also gives off the vibe of a college-ish local band of that era so it adds to it considering R&L's own history. It doesn't seem that far off Wax Paper Dogz.
As for the lyrics, my additional thoughts below.
I loved the next section, too. If nothing else for the sake of tradition. That also vibes with them perfectly. Along with the literal echo of confidence (confidence) like them reassuring themselves or each other in the mirror. Maybe both.
Big fan of how intense the imagery is in general.
The punching against concrete and tradition.
The premise of knowing you would say I love you back to someone even though it's phrased as a future event since the literal words have yet to come. Or implying that actions are louder and have already been spoken.
(Or neither and it's just about living that promise on principle.)
Even if none of it makes any sense and nothing ever comes of it.
Which kind of refers back to the general ache you mentioned above and prior to that, the lines below. Accepting the finality of it potentially never happening and loving it anyway. Or implying that's why they stick with the safety of what's known versus the unknown.
Strongly recommend the song for anyone who wants to listen!
Thank you so much for sending this. I love that while the taste is often varied, the themes found in most people's fandom's playlists remain so similar. (Don't get me started on Rhink close-reads because I've written whole fics based around the practice. 😂) But also jk. I'm slow to respond, but I could talk about how [xyz] relates to them for hours.
