Is "semi-precious" only half precious?

When you first hear the term "semi-precious stones," you might automatically wonder if semi-precious stones are only half precious stones.

What exactly is a semi-precious stone?

The international jewelry industry usually uses "rare gemstones" and "semi-rare gemstones" to classify natural gemstones.
