I did a little bit of arcade stick modding!
I wanted to try out a Seimitsu lever and a bat-top. The tops are interchangeable for Sanwa and Seimitsu so now I've got a few things to mix and match!
I also got Sanwa Silent Gen 2 buttons (aka OBSFE-30) because my downstairs neighbor was complaining ;)
I like it when the six game buttons have a different color than the other buttons where you put record and playback in training mode.
Replacing the buttons feels a bit wasteful because the Mayflash Elite stick already comes with (standard, non-silent) Sanwa buttons, unlike regular Mayflash sticks. But I bought this stick used, and I didn't see anyone offering a regular Mayflash, so whatever...
The stick feels less wasteful because it's an experiment. If I like the Sanwa stick better, I'll switch back. But I don't intend to change the buttons back again.

Replacing the buttons was surprisingly difficult. You have to pull back the clear sleeves from the connectors, and then wiggle the plug while pulling pretty hard.

Going by reviews, the Silent Gen 2 buttons are a bit louder than the first generation, but in gen 1, they just stuffed foam padding into the button caps which made them feel mushy. The second generation feels much like the standard buttons. I've recorded a comparison after replacing the first button:
The black button is Silent Gen 2, the grey one is a standard Sanwa button.
The difference between the Sanwa JLF and the Seimitsu LS-32 is that the Seimitsu is a bit stiffer, but also has a shorter throw (i.e., it needs to be moved less to activate). The response is also more uniform in the diagonal directions.
The underside of the Sanwa looks like this, after removing the restrictor gate:

So the actuator just sort of bumps into the switches. In the diagonals, it has to travel a tiny bit further to engage both switches.
Here's how this part looks on a Seimitsu:

The actuator always rests against these metal tabs, so it's stiffer, but you don't need to move it as much. Because they're angled, you have a more uniform response in the diagonals.
As far as I know, Sanwa is basically the standard Japanese arcade stick. Seimitsu is/was used in SNK arcade cabinets. From what I hear, they are also more popular with shoot-em-up players.
For me, it doesn't feel like a huge transformative change. I'll practice a bit to see if I can now learn to jump forward in fighting games without going forward-then-up. I haven't yet decided which one I like better, but if you think about trying a different stick, don't expect it to be life-changing.

girls only want one thing and it’s SEIMITSU LS-62-01 Joystick. The feel of the LS-62-01 is like no other. The combination of the short shaft, soft spring, octagonal gate provides a very smooth, yet highly accurate execution. One of these was given to MMCafe's head chief (who currently used the Hori Hayabusa and Sanwa's JLF), is now ONLY using the LS-62-01 and cannot go back to the other two for the reasons above.

It was a custom commission! Sadly I don't remember the artist nor do I know where they can be found outside of Twitter but I had the art and custom buttons made by them.
I assembled everything after ordering the acrylic plate and seimitsu buttons from focusattack.com
It's a stock MadCatz Fight stick Pro underneath sadly, the universal controller boards are expensive!
