scar’s finale was a constant and ever growing “oH MY GODDD” I was containing so much screaming when I was watching it at the ungodly hours of the night.
I NEEDED to draw the final parts of it so badly. the brain has worms on his descent into unhinged villainy.

watching the previous winners go through such gymnastics to NOT win is hilarious. Scott and Pearl both offering their lives to their partners, Pearl literally saying she doesnt want to win, Martyn and Grian being ridiculously careless in their traps and pvp, etc
Grians pvp skills were so much higher when he was defending Cleo, and then later on when he was trapping the Nether portal he just. Took so many hits, barely tried to hide himself at all. Martyn throwing the ender pearls straight up and attempting to climb a super defendable ladder was nooot super well thought out. Pearl and Scott were clearly being the backup for Scar and Gem respectively, only packing punches when it was helpful to their partners. 10/10 circus of extremely competent Minecraft players doing their best to be incompetent except they cant even do that right

Scar doesn't die covered in blood, poppies, and lilacs. He watches Pearl's moves, he watches her slow her step, lag to place that block, jump just too late for his arrows. He recognizes the way she clumsily swings back at him. He knows exactly what she's doing. He's been here before.
He wins covered in blood, poppies, and lilacs, and hears Grian's voice in his ear. Grian is with him.
He wins staring at the secret keeper, with the sound of many voices calling out to him - Congratulations. You've completed your task. You've won! We were with you every step of the way. Aren't you proud?
Scar looks around, at the holes in the ground from the wither, at the empty towers and blood stained snow at his feet. He had no friends. He was never really the villain. He was just alone. He turns back to the watchers.
We can give you whatever you want, now. You're the winner. You did better than anyone.
Scar looks at the watchers, and thinks he sees Grian, somewhere, reaching out to him, showing him the way. He sees Pearl and Scott, and a glimpse of Martyn.
In the end, the watchers couldn't touch him. They couldn't break Scar, they could never take him, they couldn't even kill him. All Scar wanted was to go home.

Hey thanks for checking in, I’m just going crazy on how Scott always resorts to killing himself as a way to level the playing field, give one final advantage to his teammates (double life final with pearl, limited life finale, losing yellow and red life to gem). How his sacrifice is never truly honoured or reciprocated, sometimes becoming an emotional burden for the person he does it for.
VS
Pearl who internalises Scott’s final act of love from double life, coming into this series with the mindset that she will die for her allies. Her fear of being the only one alive and surrounded with the blood of her allies she worked so hard to support. Being denied this chance to be a martyr and then being forced in that final fight to the death once again. Understanding like every other winner, the victory in these death games is not worth it to the point that they would do anything to avoid it. Something scar will realise soon.
VS
Gem, the newest player- one with so much promise. Her eagerness to kill, we all remember that from every player in third life. And the risk-taking, the greed and desperation. Throughout the season, Scott has gifted her hearts and his lives (reluctantly with yellow) with not as much in return (in terms of hearts). Tell me, why did gem have to kill both Scott and impulse? Why not kill one and then let them kill the other? Distribute the hearts properly? It’s because of the instinctual greed of a red life- one that she couldn’t understand the scope of until Scott had only 2 and half hearts. When all he could do was give, and she could only take. Her outrage at the 2v1- god as an audience member who knew that one side agreed to sacrifice because of the odds and the other side didn’t, it felt like a battle deciding which was the better way to love. Gem loses here and moves onto the dead without the consolation that Scott’s sacrifice changed anything.
VS
Scar, who denies Pearl’s offer of sacrifice. Refusing any less than a true fight to the death just like with Grian in the cactus ring. Not having friends this entire season and understanding that he was not the one pearl wanted to give up her life for. As soon as gem dies, he wastes no time attacking pearl despite their alliance because he understands the rules of the game better than anyone- there can only be one winner, the secret keeper demands it. Him, breaking the rules in episode 1, then suffering the consequences for four sessions straight, becoming more isolated and dangerous and eager to please the secret-keeper. Grian, from the dead, telling him that he won as he stands alone. The complete opposite of third life where he wouldn’t have made it to the end without his partner. All he can do now is press succeed.

brain went 'what if the secret keeper/s just...keep Scar. unlike the other winners who killed/died at the end of their games, Scar is still alive. and on top of that he was given additional hearts, so in theory the keeper/s can just...keep him alive indefinitely, keeping him in that shimmering blue box, all alone, keeping him all to themselves as their little secret...
just. uh. food for thought.

Tango. Cleo. Etho. Impulse. Gem. Pearl.
He didn’t even see her die. He shot her off the cliff, he heard the thunder, but his mind never made the connection. She was there, then she was gone.
“Oh, there was a zombie back there,” he had said, casual as anything. Unbothered. He didn’t even see her die.
“Pearl, I’m comin’ for ya!” he declares to the empty savanna, looking down into the chasm created by their own mortal hubris, their lust for dominion. “Where’d you go?”
He climbs down into the ravine, looking around for her. The zombie follows. “Where’d you go?”
Gently, softly, Grian’s voice issues from the sky. “She’s dead, Scar,” he breathes, and he sounds so sweet it hurts, deep in Scar’s chest. “You won.”
If he focuses hard enough, he can almost feel Grian’s hand brushing his hair behind his ear.
“Oh,” Scar replies, feeling a little stunned. Without his consent, tears start to trail down his cheeks.
Tango. Cleo. Etho. Impulse. Gem. Pearl.
He didn’t even see her die.

i rewatched scar’s finale and i just realised the zombie pearl was warning scar about was the zombie that he let punch him to half a heart.
something… something about the zombie being a symbol of scar’s distrust and refusal to look back being the thing to hurt him and him knowingly letting it do so
woah.

pearl and scar things that I'm going insane for
Scar's 2nd Task: Be Pearl's hypeman. (We love Pearlescentmoon here. Not anymore.) I love this more for the fact that the secret-keeper foreshadowed the final two all the way in session 2
"What's going over here, sunflower?" (Scar, in his sunflower green skin)/ "Sunflower? Awww, that's sweet." (Pearl) ... imagining Scar in his red skin with poppies and lilacs, placing sunflowers over pearl's dead body. As a goodbye to her, his past self.
killer camel duo
Zombie Apoc hunting where pearl does scar in
Pearl offering empathy instead of seeking revenge when she realises Scar has only been kicked and alone (NARRATIVE FOILS!!!!)
session 9. I don't need to say a thing.
