Bay of Sao Martinho do Porto, Portugal: São Martinho do Porto is a freguesia (civil parish) in Alcobaça Municipality and in the Oeste region of Portugal. The parish has one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, a bay shaped like a scallop with calm waters and fine white sand.  A shell-shaped bay with a very appealing beach. It should be fantastic in the middle of summer without the inconvenience of the "guides" Wikipedia

Royal Fortune is the most likely to cause a spectacle and the least likely to kill someone in a plunder/raid
Adventure Galley can electrocute people on contact; she is the most likely to maul someone during a plunder (usually by claw)
If you're up against Mary Celeste, chances are they won't find your body.... then they'll keep finding it washed ashore and strung up on palm trees
Whydah usually plays mission control, but if she's on the field stay away from her tentacles unless you want to be drowned
Despite her appearances, Golden Hind is best at hand to hand (especially with kicks). Her reflection also has the ability to move independently and affect the world to some degree, so stay out reflective surfaces' line(s) of sight so you don't get tag teamed
Sao Martinho has actual claws (Galley's is a sick as hell magic prosthetic made by Whydah) and her teeth are incredibly sharp; she isn't above biting and clawing if you manage to disarm her. The eyes on her wings are also functional, so it's incredibly hard, if not impossible to sneak up on her

Day 44 Driving through the country side
Solo travel obviously comes with some challenges. This morning I had to give myself a talking to, to get out of my pyjamas, get in the car and go somewhere! I hear half of you saying "what would be the problem with staying in your pyjamas all day and going nowhere?" I hear you!
I had a vague plan to visit Alcobaça and then decide whether to go on to Sao Martinho do Porto & Salir do Porto (some places that came up in a google search). I had decided Peniche was a bit too far to include in a day, which also required me to pack my suitcases and try and tetris more purchases in to already full suitcases.
And take it as given, every day I am google searching "coffee roasters", "best cake and coffee", "best vegetarian" and "top rated online" and when I've got a car "free parking".
So I put the free parking Alcobaça location into the car GPS and off I go....narrow country roads doesn't seem quite right. I ended up in the middle of nowhere, but there was a fantastic coastline to my right. I pull over and I'm further away from Alcobaça than when I started. So I search Sao Martinho do Porto, and that is close. I reverse my plans and head to this picturesque bay. It's windy and overcast and there's not many people around. I imagine it's a holiday destination for locals from Lisbon as I'm only 80 minutes from Lisbon and some tourists who have discovered it. I recall the scene from pictures on the google search I did and decide to head right and find the path up to the lighthouse. On the way I came across a tunnel which went to the other side of the cliff and open water. I imagine its purpose is more for fishing as I don't think anyone could swim off there. It is quite windy at the top towards the lighthouse and I considered needing to get on my hands and knees to make it, as the wind was causing me to unbalance. The chapel across the bay was my next challenge.
I hit Salir do Porto on the car GPS and end up on more narrow streets. I swapped to my iphone maps and choose a lookout that I think might be close. And head out, with minimal water, no raincoat and 50% phone charge. I think I'm heading in the right direction. There's no-one around. I come across one house, see two hikers in the distance and on the way back two dudes on mountain bikes. I check my iphone maps a couple of times to make sure I'm heading to a cliff point chapel. I finally get there and feel accomplished. It rains on the way back. Luckily I had enough water and the phone didn't die!
I then feel like Indian for lunch. I google "best Indian near me" and find 4.9 stars at Flavours of India in Caldas da Rainha. Great, only 15 minutes away. Again, narrow streets and no parking, I went around twice and aborted. Pull over punch in Intermarche, they'll have a baguette. No baguettes only fried and bain-marie food. Then I remember seeing Atelier do Doce this morning. GPS says 15 minutes, I'm on my way, back through country roads, getting lost, pulling over and then I find it, it's after 1.30pm, and they're open (I've learnt to check the opening hours).....it's meant to be, OMG a shop filled with pastries and desserts. I order a smoked salmon baguette, chat to the waiter about what the drinks are (she mentions I make and Ginja, and sparking and something else), then I back that up with a delicious chocolate tart and decent cappucino (no chocolate, this is the closest thing I can get to a latte if I'm not at a coffee roaster), three more treats to take home and that's a wrap at $23.
I punch in the free parking destination in Alcobaça and end up on more country roads. It's fun for about 20 minutes and then I'm done with that. I pull over and just punch in Alcobaça and find the first park. A 15 minute walk and I'm at the enormous Monastery. I decide not to pay the €10 to go in, but visit the church instead and wonder around the village and look at the local craft. It's a lovely place and I imagine having lunch in a cafe across from the Monastery would be a delightful experience.
I've had a big enough day and lots of fun despite my earlier hesitation about going out at all. Time to go and see if a handbag I saw on day 1 in Nazaré is still in the shop, and it is, but I decide not to purchase the fragile items I also eyed off on day 1, as I have fragile items from Obidos. Now for tetris.

How much longer will the summer last..?
It is still summer for many on the west coast. In Sao Martinho do Porto it was 29 degrees this afternoon, and 34 in Caldas da Rainha. But, could the summer be much longer this year? Do we need rain now, – or can we wait a little longer?

Tempesta Physiology
▪︎The collective term for the kind of Shipgirl a Tempesta is would be 'Nymph(s)'
▪︎ If you bring this up to any Thalassapolian though they'll look at you weird (This is important to my stupid intricate Tempesta lore which I might touch on Another Post™)
▪︎The reason why I say 'collective' is because they can be put into subgroups
▪︎Note that said subgroups are more of a rough outline between different Nymphs rather than being sorted into neat boxes (Golden Hind is a notable case of this)
▪︎There are many different groups, but so far what I have are Krackens, Sirens, and Selkies
▪︎Krackens have tentacles (Royal Fortune; Whydah)
▪︎ Sirens (not to be mistaken for the enemies) have wings, scales, and/or piscine features (Sao Martinho)
▪︎Selkies have animal-skin coats, most commonly seals, and a few of the coat's respective animal traits (Golden Hind)
▪︎ (Interestingly, Hind's coat is nowhere in sight this is also somewhat important)
▪︎Note: these are loose categorizations meant to be guidelines over hard boundaries, as there're some Nymphs that don't follow this
▪︎Nymphs are, essentially, reverse KAN-SEN
▪︎What I mean by that is if a KAN-SEN is a Ship's spirit being projected into a human form (ship -> girl), then a Nymph is the spirit using the ship as a vessel (girl -> ship)
▪︎ An alternate analogy is that if KAN-SEN 'push out', then Nymphs 'pull in'
▪︎Because of this, Nymphs don't nessecarily need to be a shipgirl to exist
▪︎This also means a Nymph who's a shipgirl can change their hull to a different ship
▪︎When cut, or given X-ray scans, Nymphs will appear like normal humans/KAN-SEN
▪︎However, severing a limb/extremely heavy-hitting blunt force will cause their bodies to cave in
▪︎'cave in' in this case is similar to how a wall/wood hull caves in when you introduce it to a sledgehammer
▪︎They don't seem to feel pain from this?
▪︎Paradoxically, they still feel pain against anything that doesn't meet the conditions for this to happen
