A personal history of the vampire Lestat
I have a vivid memory of it being around about four years after the Neil Jordan Interview with the Vampire came out, being in the backseat of a car being driven by my father and paying more attention to the 1994 publication of The Vampire Lestat than to the beautiful scenery of the township of Sorrento that we were just driving into.
Instead of 20th century Melbourne, I was quite utterly lost in 18th century Paris. Instead of two siblings beside me, my company was Lestat de Lioncourt and Nicholas de Lenfent. And I was fascinated by the descriptions, the lush details of a world and a time period I hadn't found in books before.
I would later see Anne Rice written up as an author of dark erotica, or as someone who had found religion in a pretty hardcore way, and finally as an author of many books of undead men who was now herself unfortunately deceased. But as a teenager discovering vampire fiction, hers would be the first adult and horror depiction of vampires I would consume.
Indeed, the memory of the day would most likely be entirely lost to history were it not for the memory of this book. This might have been the same day where we consumed ice-cream by the beach. But it was definitely the day where I remember even my 15 year old adolescent mind wasn't able to reconcile Lestat as the 'good guy' of this narrative.
This is a feeling I would carry all the way from Brad Pitt's jaw line that would. not. quit (definitely the unsung MVP of the 1994 film) to Sam Reid's depiction of Lestat coming to us now in the year of Our Lord 2022. It's fun to be able to watch and relax, while sitting very content with words like 'anti-hero' now in my vocabulary.
But it also doesn't hurt to have Daniel Molloy this time actively calling out the abusive nature of Louis and Lestat's relationship in the script. Multiple times.
My god, those eyes, though.
Is it the difference in picture quality over the past 30 years, or is dear Sampire's performance really that much more riveting over that of Tom Cruise?

sam took piano lessons french lessons singing lessons dog training lessons (for a single scene!!!!) read all of the books grew out his hair developed a walk and an entire physical language for lestat. i clown on this guy as much as anyone but he is genuinely so dedicated to his work and to this character and i appreciate and respect him so much for it.
#like yes he understands lestat uncannily well he's not beating the possession allegations etc etc.#and sam himself seems to find the sampire/possession jokes fun so i think they're fine#but he only seems 'possessed' because of the massive amount of work he put in

Keeping aside certain weird, hateful & toxic Padalecki solo stans in the quotes, thank you so SO much for this… When J2 worked together again with Jensen directing for Jared - it was SOOO AWESOME. Loved reading the rest so much too. 💞💕
And look who is sucking up to Monica (this was in response to her Kale interview tweet). And I checked the quotes on her tweet for "certain weird, hateful & toxic Padalecki solo stans " and I found ONE and all it said was:
There were so many good directors in walker and they keep asking about that one, literaly no one cares
That was the extent of the hateful and toxic Jared fans. One did mention asking about Austin like we talked about but there was absolutely nothing negative about that one. (you can check out the qt's yourself here: https://twitter.com/Monica1236/status/1635735290005291010)
But like, "When J2 worked together again with Jensen directing for Jared - it was SOOO AWESOME" ok but that was LAST SEASON. It has been talked about sooo many times. There were a ton of articles for at least a week after the ep aired (and before it aired) talking about it. Now we should be talking about this season, which Jensen has nothing to do with... Also it was one of the most boring episodes, he didn't do all that great with it....
This sampires person is so f*cking annoying. They claim to like J2 but they OBSESSIVELY defend Jensen (I don't know if I've seen someone so voraciously defend him, even his craziest stans) from every even mildly critical tweet they see but its always crickets about Jared... OR they actively are negative about Jared themselves. Stop lying and just admit you're an AA. It just looks pathetic and obvious at this point.
Oh yes, it's so toxic to point out that Walker has other directors. /s/
That person is a blatant AA and all the Jared fans I follow on Twitter know it. Sampires simply cannot handle anything that's even in the vicinity of a slight against Jensen.
As for the so-called journalist, I'm guessing that part of her bringing up Jensen is because of her obsession, but also because she saw how much attention she got a few weeks back when she baited AAs with Jensen's supposed press release (that never materialized). Just mention his name, and the AAs come running like Pavlov's dogs. Never mind that they don't even watch Walker or probably even know who Kale is.

I have to know why does the fandom call Sam Samothy? I haven’t found anything online that says his name is anything but Sam?
His full legal name is Sam Thyne Reid.
His stage name for a while was Sebastian Reid.
As for why we call him Samothy... I believe it's just a fond nickname someone came up with (i can't for the life of me remember who, so please give yourself credit here if you read this! 🥰).
Other nicknames for our favourite Aussie include Samantha, Simba, Samanthyne, Sampunzel, Mother, and of course the epic Sampire, coined by Jacob himself 🫠
