Mean Girls (2024)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
Mean Girls has two musical numbers where the second half of the songs are covered in intense strobe lights, with the movie being unsafe to watch until those songs are over. The first song is called Someone Gets Hurt, and uses that phrase multiple times before the strobe effects start. The second one is called World Burn, and frequently uses the phrase "watch the world burn" before its extreme strobe effects start. A few scenes have singular camera flashes, which are very bright. On two occasions, we see rapidly-changing images from vertically-shot cell phone video clips, which change fast enough to create strobe effects.
There are a few brief uses of handheld and shaking cameras. During multiple songs, there are several uses of orbiting shots at high speeds, which may be disorienting.
Flashing Lights: 10/10. Motion Sickness: 7/10.
TRIGGER WARNING: There is a lot of schoolyard bullying in this film.

I must’ve missed every bit of advertising for this film because I had no idea it was a musical.
Auliʻi Cravalho can singggg 👏🏽
But the songs were a lot, and I will probably never watch this again, so I’m glad I got to see it in cinema.

Overall Thoughts:
The 2024 reboot of Mean Girls is very enjoyable. This reboot adopts all the best parts of the 2004 film while discarding certain problematic jokes. Mean Girls ( 2024 Musical Movie.) Review./Watch Girls5eva Insteded
The original Mean Girls was something of a blind spot for this viewer until he watched it randomly during the pandemic when it had a run on UK Netflix. It’s one of those films that’s had enough pop and meme cultural penetration that this watcher just assumed he knew all of the memetic catchphrases and quoted moments via osmosis. A certain amount of that is true but the inherent surprise in…

"Mean Girls"
The film's biggest stumbling block is simple: the songs and musical numbers just aren't good.
The biggest takeaway I got after screening “Mean Girls,” the big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical, is that there is a reason you haven’t heard of any of the songs. There’s also a clear reason why the studio decided to dump this one in the January movie release wasteland. Co-directors Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. have made a project that could’ve been titled “When Movie Musicals go…
