The fact that Sams story ultimately ends with the initial asumption that caused Robin to suspect its all bullshit, being compleatly correct, inst in it of itself a problem. Its just that if it wanted to go there, it had to be a much more in depth story than it was willing to be. Like I know they think, they had some plot twist, becaus yhea she did die of negligence but in an attempt to be heroic and we confirm Alterra is evil, but ultimately, we end up where we started. She died in an accident.
You can totally make a very good story out of how Robin feels about that, having to learn that no, the person you idolized was kind of a dumbass. Especially with how in game every compliment she gives Sam is imediatly followed by a self depricating one of herself, or at least pointing out how diferent they where. So it looked like you could spin it further as an “If shes not the genius I thought she was, then where does that leave me?” Since Robin is, lowkey a bit of a nobody. Seemingly intentionally since she prefers to do her own thing. And its specifically because Sam is trying to climb the corporate ladder that she ended up in this mess, so would she think shes… better than her? Or she was full of shit and deep down jelous that she couldnt be a big shot and hid behind pretentions of independence? And how would she take being wrong about her sister but right about Alterra?
See? You can spin this a thousand diferent ways. But heres the thing.
You cant do that with three lines of dialogue from Robin every seven hours.
Like nothing that would make that plot good can be expressed without deep diving into backstory and personal philosophy and the struggle of contradicting feelings, none of which can be done unless you have a fuck ton more dialogue than whats in the game. Youd have to have the player stop and listen her either to herself or to Al-An or Marguerite go on about these things and that would have to take much more than a few seconds per exchange.
And if they dont want to do that, then have a diferent outcome. Just have Robin be entierly in the right and have it so that her sister was just there and she was trying to cure the Karaah and Alterra themselves killed her, or, died of the infection, or the fandom would have loved this, the frozen leviathan is alive, killed her and they noped the fuck out of there but lied about everything. There, you got a much simpler concept that you can maybe get some more gameplay out of and you dont have to sit the characters down to reflect.
But we end up with nither and the game only suffers for it.

The Spy Penglings from Subnautica: Below Zero°.
A remotely-controlled espionage and reconnaissance drone developed by Samantha Ayou at Phi Robotics with the intent to observe and survey wildlife as well as reach areas too small or hazardous for human exploration.
They have all-terrain treads, a small storage compartment, an extendable probing arm, and of course a self-destruct mechanism.
Though their outer hull is customizable to replicate any small earthbound critter, the base design is modeled after the juvenile Pengwings native to the arctic of planet 4546B.

Subnautica needs to seriously use its narrative to portray femenine rage through the rage of the leviathans. Both games are in some way about a woman being wronged by some corrupt society. The emperor in the first game, and Sam in the second. Not to mention the other two mother leviathans that distroyed both Al-An and Marguerites entire lives because they messed with their children. Subnautica needs to embrace those little teathers of implied female vindication and really hit you in the face with it. No I dont care what the dudebro youtubers think. Subnautica narratively is almost built to be an eco-femenist game. It is in some ways, but it needs to do more. Robin isnt quite enough.

Me still thinking about that domestic cyptid comedy horror Au where Ryley is a park ranger living out his days patroling the woods where an odd old lady , quirky researcher and her sibling and her girlfriend reside .
And every now and then he has to Head out and investigate reports and sightings of weird alien wendigos and robot not deers and chase off the local hippie cults (alterra) convinced aliens are trying to commune. And 100% knows Robin sam and Margaret know more then they act like.
And refuse to explain the power outages or odd glowing lights.
But its all told in like a podcast format And Ryley is 100% done with their gasslighting.
