my dad and brother are watching the nba all stars game and my dad is being misogynistic towards sabrina ionescu (the record holder for the free throw challenge, ever, in both the wnba and nba) and my brother is defending her. because he is the bare minimum standard for men

#Chilling Adventures of Sabrina#The Shining (1980)#Michelle Gomez#Shelley Duvall#Jack Nicholson#I find the parallels between Wendy and Mary very *very* interesting#(and also the parallel between Jack and an obsessively driven being of murderous darkness)#Because both Mary and Wendy are women pushed to their limit#mentally and emotionally exhausted with no one to support them#left to try and deal with overwhelming threats on their own#women whose gentleness is treated as weakness#women whose obvious anxiety is either dismissed or diminished or down right ignored#In the Shining in this moment#Wendy has a knife to protect herself which she uses to slash at Jack's hand when he tries to open the door through the hole he has made#notably however#Mary has no weapon#she has her wits#and those remind her of what she recently heard about beings of darkness and about not clinging to the light for safety#When I first noted this parallel I was only thinking about Wendy and Mary's direction#but actually Jack and the Darkness herald walking steadily down a narrow hallway with their axes#passing beneath centred round lights#is also nicely paralleled#If only the caos director had kept the shot framed centre#There is one tiny other thing which is the shot of Mary's face peering through the slightly open door#the way the wood frames her face somewhat close to how Jack's face is framed through the busted door#when he delivers the iconic HERE'S JOHNNY!#And tho it may well have been an intended thing it just doesn't serve the theme very well#cw violence#Mary Wardwell

okay i know this is on my for trying to get consistent lore in riverdale but like... jughead shouldn't have died in the death of the firstborn plague. betty says "charles and polly were older than me". charles. ie, betty and jughead's shared half-brother. is it because percival didn't know? is it because betty was saved via polly being older than her, because she's not the firstborn of the union of both their parents? is it matrilineal? like even though not all firstborns were killed, surely jughead shouldn't be effected by that?

Omg girl my tl on Twitter has been flooded with pics and vids of them and I’m OBSESSED. They are so smitten with each other and showing affection literally any time they are spotted. And it’s not paps who are capturing the affection, it’s random people when they are spotted out being adorable and just living their lives. No care nor paying attention to any camera that might be on them. Now that is a real relationship and that is how you know they are smitten. Love them
the candids from fans when they go on their dates is everything, because yes while these two have had the occasional pap run-in the ratio from pap pics to random fan pics is HUGE. like 70% fan content and 30% paps. they are not afraid to express their love and be seen out and about. compare this to kaia and austin and it's horrifyingly depressing how different the vibes are between the couples. austin needs this kind of relationship where he feels free.

just rewatched Sabrina (1995) last night and for the first time in my life I think I got it
#sabrina#i needed to know that it was a PLAY#the formatting and long conversations drove me wild the first two times I saw it#(i also watched it much younger)#anyway. i liked it!!!! i love linus's journey and david's tbh#sabrina herself is a hit or miss sort of moment by moment#i sometimes just want to smack her#but she mostly stays on the right side of that line for me#and there is just something so powerful about it as a movie

finally got around to watching the Brent Miller interviews for Deven Mack and Sabrina Pitre and a) I am now also obsessed with Rockoon. Deven Mack is now my favorite voice actor and I am watching TOME and his streams immediately. Wdym he's basically a furry vtuber and I didn't know about it this is awesome and b) Sabrina Pitre should not be given matches without supervision. Also her take on Vania x Cole is hilarious like "oh yeah I ship it" and when she's asked if she'd want them to appear together again "I don't know. Could Cole be happy in a world where vania exists?" Incredible. If this were canon it should be in the way she visualizes it. People who like each other romantically but are also incredibly incompatible 10/10

so crazy to me to think that i've been obsessed with neopets for 20 years...... this is sabrina, who was probably my first ever oc (or more like self-insert)!! it's so wild to see the one from today right next to the one from 2013. it feels like 2013 was just yesterday!!! 😭😭😭 i always think of myself as being really stagnant/ not improving much since high school, but it's really reassuring to see how much my art really has changed.

okay firstly, lemme just link u to some recs we've previously compiled in the studyblr w/knives server: top 2021 books, lgbtq+ main character, trans main character (more recs incoming next month ;))
and now, to single out some recent(ish) faves:

exciting times (n. dolan) - contemporary fiction they say this is the closest it gets to sally rooney but i haven't read any of her books so i wouldn't know about that. i would, however, know that i absolutely love the writing in this one - barely anything happens and i rarely like plotless books and yet here i am, tabbing the hell out of this book
gideon the ninth (t. muir) - sci-fi horror fantasy it took a little for me to get used to the writing but oh. my. god. it destroyed me in the best way possible and i already have the sequel on my shelves, waiting till after finals to dig in (very much recommend it - feel free to dm me and i can tell u more)
the charm offensive (a. cochrun)* - contemporary rom-com
this had the lovely vibes red, white & royal blue has; i read it in a day and had a blast, it also has a main character of color and neurodiverse rep!
the six of crows duology (l. bardugo) - ya fantasy
you surely already know abt it, but it's among my all time absolute faves so of course i have to mention it
the raven cycle (m. stiefvater) - ya urban fantasy
same reason as with soc lol
things have gotten worse since we last spoke (e. larocca)* - conteporary epistolary horror
horror indeed. chilling, gripping, delightfully horrifying and fucking disgusting - i probs won't ever be rereading but man, it was a ride
damaged like us (b.&k. ritchie)* - contemporary romance
is this the height of literature? certainly not. but did i enjoy it and read it at lightning speed? i did. i really did.
the house in the cerulean sea (t.j. klune) - urban fantasy
a hug in book form. reading this feels like being bundled up in ur fave blanket, sipping your fave hot beverage and Vibing™
hepdale rain trilogy (c. paul)* - ya urban fantasy
i don't like werewolf stories. these books tho? had me in a chokehold. the characters are amazing, the writing is lovely af, and each book is better than the last.
the atlas six (o. blake)* - urban fantasy
some ppl hated this but me? it made me go absolutely insane. i was making inhumane noises as this took my heart and twisted it in like 5 diff dimensions, 5 stars, immediate new fave.
top secret (e. kennedy, s. bowen)* - contemporary romance
kinda a frat house you've got mail au. shameless smut ngl. a great pick if u just want sth quick, super non-demanding to read while getting over a book that ruined u lol
him (e. kennedy, s. bowen)* - contemporary sports romance
same as the previous, just with the hockey gays flavor this time.
cemetery boys (a. thomas) - ya urban fantasy
this. book. asdfsdghfjkl. my poor heart. just sweet and so soft, but at the same time amazing at tackling themes like your identity and belonging and culture and
simon vs. the homo sapiens agenda (b. albertalli) - ya contemporary romance
a classic by this point, but i read it in 2018 and def wanna reread :')
heartstopper (a. oseman) - ya contemporary romance
the graphic novel that stole our hearts <3 also go watch it on netflix everyone (if u want to Emote be consumed by warmth)
the magic between (s. hoyt) - magical realism romance
this wasn't exactly a fave, but the dedication reads "for all the bisexuals out there - this one's for you." and yes. the bisexual rep this world deserves
