That previous TM post reminded me of something.
What really tells me the Koei Tecmo writers did their homework with Type-Moon is how Fate/Samurai Remnant slightly changes the TM theme of decay to portray that Iori has something wrong with him.
A common trope that Nasu likes to weave into his stories is how the people living today are living in the past's skeletons. Unlike a lot of media that tends to portray the past as some grandiose and magical time that met an untimely end from disaster, the past wasn't always great, it was just... Large.
A theme of slow decay permeates a lot of Nasu's works. Once, the Nanaya, the Ryougi, the Asakami, and the Fujou were fearsome, powerful clans of oni hunters, but over time they all fell to ruin slowly, with only the Nanaya really having a singular incident that can be pointed to for their fall. The Tohno were (and still are) an incredibly wealthy and influential family of oni in the guise of businessmen, but one cruel act out of line after another, and there's just an enormous, empty mansion containing a single Tohno, the family dead or scattered. Mahoyo's longest chapter takes place in a lavish, abandoned amusement park, filled with everything from a multistory house of mirrors to a giant rollercoaster where everything still works, but couldn't survive more than a few years, a foolish waste of a fortune. Kara No Kyoukai is about a rich girl that grows increasingly distant from her wealthy noble family until she leaves them to live in a completely empty apartment instead, the flashbacks to the Ryougi family showing no warmth or nostalgia despite the luxury.
Even Fate, the series all about digging up ghosts of the past and showing you how kickass these guys are, always goes into how heroic spirits are often filled with regret, having led bloody and tragic lives that caused them so much pain and yet meant that they would be remembered forever—literally removing them from the cycle of death and reincarnation to be put into another one where they are reborn and killed on a mage's whims.
The past was grand, wealthy, larger than life, and it rotted from the inside out and failed the people living today, who have to build new, simpler lives from the pieces, but might be happier that way.
FSR does something similar, though with an important difference. Just like in other TM works the past in FSR is larger than life, being the Sengoku period and the Shimabara rebellion, with both the incredibly cool sword saints and horrific massacres, but the people living today (1651) could not be happier about living in a peaceful, much more insignificant time and have no interest in what they left behind whatsoever. They're not living in the decaying remains of the past, they've rebuilt on top of it completely. You would have to be insane to look back even out of curiosity, because that would be staring into unimaginable bloodshed.
Nowhere is this better illustrated than Nasu himself talking about how the name "Miyamoto Musashi" is seen today, compared to in 1651 after Musashi had just died.
Tumblr media
A sword-saint now, a legend, and at 60 duels with 60 wins probably the most skilled duelist to have ever lived, but for his contemporaries, he was a terrifying man that killed dozens to prove his martial skill. Nobody in Miyamoto Iori's time remembers him for being Musashi's son the way we do.
But Iori, Iori looks back. The first hint was that servants always have some connection to the master, and there's seemingly nothing in common with the king and god-slayer Saber and the humble Iori. The next was Saber's reaction seeing Iori's seemingly fearless behavior towards an enemy that could kill him in one blow (something you don't even need New Game+ to see btw, I haven't played NG+ myself lol), it was recognition.
There's a reason why Iori's main rival is Chiemon, a character whose only defining trait is being unable to let go of the bloodshed he experienced in the Shimabara Rebellion.
In FSR more than in any other Type-Moon title, the past is buried deep to the point where it can barely be seen, and yet inside Iori is the desire to dig it up. Study it. Surpass it. Find his father resurrected in his prime and kill him (her) again, to prove he would have been an even more terrifying monster than she ever was, had he been born just a little earlier.
There's something wrong with him.

for all the focus that the Nasuverse has on the four oni hunting families, we're never going to see a story centered around them actually doing demon hunting, because that's antithetical to the story these families are being used to tell
in Kara no Kyoukai, the Fujous have been reduced to just Kirie, who is blind and bound to a wheelchair, using her powers to lash out at fellow humans, while in Tsukihime, the two remaining daughters, Hisui and Kohaku have been adopted and abused by one of the oni families that their family existed to fight, and forced to work for them
the Asagamis are only doing better in a practical sense, where their wealth gives them some power in the power day, but their oni fighting prowess is all but gone, and once again, Fujino is lashing out against fellow humans. the family is splintered and falling apart, hurting the youngest generation
the Nanayas are extinct except for their last son who barely knows who he is
and while the Ryougis are the one family still in a position to actually do their ancestral job, but Shiki is more interested in doing other things, and it's not like anyone can force her t take on tat role. and with the way she's raising Mana, atraditional in relation to her family and also the rest of society, it's certainly going to end with her
there aren't even demons to fight anymore. the Tohnos are still around, other families might be as well, but they aren't what they once were. Makihisa was a horrible man, but not in a way where a person could show up with a sword and put an end to him. the latest of the bloodline, Akiha, is as much a powerful demon as they could be, but while she's the heiress to the family, she's certainly not a fearsome oni like the slayer families would have fought in history
it's all a part of the theme of decay and generational hurt that Nasu uses in all of his stories. it's no different from the decay of the Tohsaka and Matou families in Fate or the decline of magecraft in general elsewhere in the universe. this is why the families fell into irrelevance, too, they're a relic from an older age whom the world has passed by
of the four families, the one that are most likely to have a bright future are the Ryougis, and that's because it seems like Shiki is raising her daughter in such aa unique way that it will be a break from everything that came before them. the happiest ending any of these stories can have is for people to move past their history and put it aside

What’s your thoughts on Shirou being in The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II? I am happy to get post Holy Grail War content, especially with Shirou still being a redhead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't really keep up El Melloi story but I agree that it's nice to see Shirou post grail war. The series did show Ryougi Shiki family post KnK so now it's Shirou's time.
A bit surprised to see he already has Kanshou and Byakuya but it also makes sense for the weapon to be recorded as his basic weapon means he must have wield it since quite early as possible.
I saw people meme the last illustration by calling it "Shirou is fighting Chainsaw man" and I thought that was funny.

6 14 20 for ryougi shiki 🎙️
6. What's something you have in common with this character?
We both want to peg Mikiya 💯 More seriously, I don't think think we're all that alike lole. I'm a lot more like Mikiya than Shiki imo because I'm too outgoing, banter too much, etc.
14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.
No idea what one would call Shiki's taste in fashion, but I call it "I badly need this for myself-core". The kimono + leather jacket literally goes so fucking hard; I could totally see myself doing something like that with a dress + leather jacket.
20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?
Tomoe <///3. Not saying movie 5 should have went differently or anything, it was 10/10, but if things had turned out well for Tomoe then I could absolutely see him being life-long family friends of Shiki and Mikiya.

Mahoyo brainrot continues.
Out of the 4 main shows of the nasuverse, mahoyo is the saddest despite the seemingly comedic and comfy atmosphere it has. Kara na kyoukai is grim but it has a happy ending. Ryougi Shiki gets to live with mikiya and build a family with him while still having her humanity with her because of mikiya. I take ryougi shiki's life in the end as the most peaceful out of the four and possibly the happiest. Despite the sad backstory of fate characters, they all live happily in the end. Shirou still gets to meet artoria in the Avalon, gets to stick to his ideals and be a hero of justice in UBW while rin accompanies him wherever he goes and lives a happy life with sakura in HF despite whatever happened with him in that route. Tohno Shiki's future is a bit sad because of his lifespan but still, I'm sure that he'll meet arcueid again in the future even the manga says so. I haven't finished the other routes but from what I've seen, the ending is peaceful for each route and that's all the confirmation I needed.
Now mahoyo. Aoko's future is already set in stone. She will travel the world all alone. There's already confirmation that one day, those three are going to be separated whether they like it or not. Soujuurou will undoubtedly disappear. The moment he decided to help Alice and Aoko he was already bound to be offed. Because the moment he tries to help those two girls, he will do everything just to protect them. And we all know what happened afterwards.
At some point in the story, something major happens and it will greatly affect Aoko. I'm sure that event will be one of the reasons her personal view will be changed. A girl who stubbornly held her beliefs strongly now had to consider changing it. For someone like aoko, that event should be something so major and serious.
Alice is going to be left alone in that mansion again forever waiting. The only boy who changed her life greatly is gone and she can't even do anything about it. The only thing she can do is wait and believe he will come back. I consider the ending as a foreshadowing for those three's future.
I feel like I got lost in my point. Anyway, what makes it sad is that there's no hope for the separation of the three to be averted because mahoyo is just retelling the story of aoko's life. Which means it already happened and there's no undoing it anymore. They can't even go back to the good old days and act like nothing happened.
Well this can all be averted if nasu releases mahoyo 2 and 3 and reveals soujuurou is just chilling in the mansion with Alice while aoko travels the world because that's how independent that woman is.

The promised video is already here and it's bringing in a discussion: could Naruto / Boruto creators be stealing from NaruSaku fans? What is the truth behind Boruto's karma design really? Why does it look so similar to Shinachiku Uzumaki's Byakugou concept? How comes Ryougi looks like a copy of Arashi Uzumaki, NaruSaku fans' third child? Why does Sasuke Retsuden alludes now to connections between Otsutsuki & Harunos, similar to theories and fan-projects? Why the striking similarity between fanon content & official one, when the fanon always was first to come around? What is exactly happening here? Are truly Naruto / Boruto creators stealing from NaruSaku fans? Let's take a look and discuss...?https://youtu.be/I3ObEqr9wqk
No that is all bs especially the Otsutsuki & Harunos having any connection when the Harunos are completely normal family that isn't even a clan. It's just them making complaints to stir up hate. The diamond design for karma is only similar to Byakugou in its dormant state.
They aren't stealing anything from NaruSaku fans they just want to make some trouble since they didn't get their ship and accuse the creators of stealing.

If Type-Moon are serious about English translations for their titles going forward, they need to hire a guy whose sole job is ensuring style consistency across titles.
You cannot be calling them 'oni' in FGO and then 'ogres' in Fate/Samurai Remnant while also having an enemy in Samurai Remnant be called 'Blue Oni' anyway. The original Fate/Extra also used "Legendary Souls" and "Formalwear" in place of "Heroic Spirits" and "Mystic Codes". FGO and Melty Blood Actress Again also use family name - given name even for modern Japanese characters like Ryougi Shiki and Tohno Shiki, but Mahoyo and Melty Blood Type Lumina use the given name - family name format so you get Aoko Aozaki and Alice Kuonji (to say nothing about 'Soujyuro')
None of this even touches how bad the official English releases of the Heaven's Feel movies in Southeast Asia were, where the subtitles would have 'Tohsaka', "Tousaka", "Toosaka", and "Tōsaka" all in the same movie, and even in the same lines.

OK fair. It just feels like the default Fate/Tsukihime/Nasu protagonist tends towards being generally respectable middle-class teenagers who, while somewhat alienated by their peers, aren't exactly completely outcast from school and society or just totally without regard for it's norms the way a lot of delinquents are. Just weird that not a single one of these guys feels remotely like Yusuke from YuYuHakusho.
okay let's tackle this protagonist by protagonist. your complaints are... that Nasu protagonists are too socialable/not disaffected enough, too middle-class, and they don't act like delinquents
Aoko is a punk. she's probably bisexual. she comes fr a family with generational wealth. she doesn't really have friends because she chased away the rest of the school by violently rejecting all the boys who tried to confess to her. she's also literally one of the five most powerful mages ever
Shiki Ryougi is an actual delinquent. she's rough with people and generally sticks on her own. it's notable when Mikiya starts talking to her. like Aoko, she comes from generational wealth, but specifically a family that's trained to fight demons. as such, she gets a sexual thrill out of murder
Shiki Tohno isn't a delinquent. he's a pretty standard student, one who doesn't really stand out much. he has two friends, but one of them (Satsuki) is strained. his social standing os basically none. he's the definition of someone who doesn't stand out. except, he also comes from generational wealth (sorta). he wants to fuck his sister. he also gets off on murder
Shirou is the most normal from a social sense. he had a large group of friends and mostly sticks in. however, he still lives in a mansion (a traditional Japanese one, this time). he's also an accidental wizard. he's a goody two-shoes who wants to make the world a better place. i guess he's the only one who really fits your complaint, but even then, it's a fundamental misunderstanding of who he is and what his character is doing
I'm not sure you've actually read any of Nasu's stories, and that instead you've just picked up stuff from what people have posted on tumblr. if you have read them... the gap between the text and your understanding is irreparable

Considering the state of Jujutsu society and how it leaned towards patriarchy (until all of the shit that's happened and is currently happening rn), I think the Ryougis would be considered somewhat of an anomaly, not only due to how Shiki is stated to be the next family head instead of her brother, but also because I feel like their parents wouldn't really follow the other clans' ways of raising their kids?
Like, yeah their dad is stated to be old-fashioned (though he'll only use violence in a situation where it's necessary to do so), b u t then it's also stated that they don't usually do typical family things? So like...maybe their parenting is slightly unorthodox, but not in a way where the treatment is harsh and cruel to both Shiki and Kaname (compare to the Zenin clan and the awful treatment of their kids).
