hi all! :D i wanted to rec some festive fics for the holidays for fic rec friday this week!

I'm sure that I've missed some and that some are still to be posted, which will be included in the january rec if so! but here are a few that I've particularly enjoyed reading this month -- the holidays can be a difficult time for many of us and fic - both reading and writing it - can be such a wonderful distraction!

Dream sharing is absolutely not a thing, even though Alex would very much like it to be. I know this is a long shot, but if anyone’s going to Texas/anywhere south for the holidays and is crazy enough to drive there instead of fly, I’m looking for a road trip buddy. I FINALLY POSTED CHAPTER ONE of the full spectrum of human emotion aka the proposal au that I've been posting snippets of for an eternity and a half. it's my first multichapter so i am Nervous but...onward and upward! YEEHAW!

here's a snip from proposal au (all snips here). yeah yeah it's nine sentences okay HERE YOU GO <3 :

Alex enters the car, fighting to hold onto the pole. There's no way he has time to stand in line at the busy artisanal tea shop Henry makes him go to—his delicate tastebuds can't stand the subpar garbage the rest of the plebeians consume. He makes a game-time decision he hopes won’t bite him in the ass in about thirty minutes, using his free hand to tap the Starbucks app and quickly place a mobile order at the one next to the office before he loses his internet connection, and is forced to instead brave the storm of harried New Yorkers wanting their fuel for the morning. He hopes it doesn’t come to that. He can't afford another mishap after last week. Once he's out of the subway station, Alex sprints first to the tea shop, dipping inside only to ask his regular barista for two of their to-go cups and lids, throwing a “Thank you!” over his shoulder at her confused face. He goes next door to Starbucks, picks up his three drinks and snacks, and quickly empties the Starbucks Earl Grey into the Fancy Schmancy Tea Shop to-go cups, fastening the lid with a snap. Alex prays for the second time that morning. Please, please, please, let the Tea Gods be merciful today in helping trick Henry's elitist taste buds.

a firstprince christmas drabble

Alex finds him outside, away from warm lights and the mulled-wine-scent of their home.

Henry could’ve been star-gazing, if Alex hadn’t read the distance in his smile at dinner to know he’s further than even the stars right now.

Still, not so far that Alex can’t reach him.

He doesn’t push, letting that string guide them shoulder-to-shoulder, his breath finding Henry’s midair. He watches over the stars while Henry goes where he needs, meeting somewhere far from the party but in a world where Alex is there when Henry reaches for his hand.

There, Alex finds him.

Alex always will.

Henry leans over the balcony railing and stares wistfully at the festivities overtaking the street below.

Twinkling lights hang between the trees as the sound of live music and laughter floats up to him. Couples dance, loose and easy, sleeves rolled up to elbows while skirts twist around legs and ankles.

It feels like unbridled happiness that Henry has always longed to be a part of, but he knows that he wouldn't know what to do with it if given the opportunity.

He's always been on the outside looking in, hanging back in the shadows as centuries of familial obligations bear down on him. He feels like he could collapse beneath the weight and tumble out of the embassy window. A beautiful prison fit for the king he'll never be.

WIP Wednesday? Not quite...

Nora leads the rest of the "Super Six" (June, Pez, Bea, Henry, and Alex) in a Passover seder, livestreamed for charity.

“Thank you to President Claremont for letting us commandeer a room in the White House for our project,” Nora announces briskly. “Of course, there was the official White House Seder that was led by Vice President Holleran, which was held on the first night of Passover. This is just an educational fundraiser.” “And we’re putting the fun back in fundraiser!” Alex grins, proud of himself, and the group groans in unison.

The most intriguing part of it all is June's best friend there, a man named Henry, that Alex believed was a jerk at first but is starting to discover a new side of as they spend more time together.

Plans go awry when Alex comes down with the flu right before Christmas while Henry waits for him to fly over and meet him in England. Prepared to spend Christmas sick and alone, Alex doesn't expect Henry to take matters into his own hands.

Across three different years, at different points in their lives, Alex and Henry celebrate Christmas together.

New Year's Eve 2022 finds Alex and Henry replaying some of the best moments of their year and getting up to their usual shenanigans, with maybe a surprise or two in store.

OKAY SO y'all know I am in my vampire era and I simply cannot be stopped and THIS. FIC. You guys. This fic is SO. DAMN. FUNNY. I legit could not stop giggling the entire time I was reading it.

The characterisation is perfect, the plot is spot on, the smut is sexy and the dialogue...well, I'll just leave you with my favourite part:

“Should we google it?” Alex asks, already craning his neck around in search of his phone. “Edward got Bella pregnant, you know.” Henry gives him a bewildered look. “Alex. I’m not going to get you pregnant.” “That’s exactly what Edward thought too, and look how that turned out!” Alex says, indignant. If there’s one thing he learnt from Twilight, it’s that you can never be too careful. “Christ, Alex. I’m begging you, no more talk about Twilight. Especially now.” Henry says, sounding pained. “Also I don’t know how to tell you this, but people don’t get pregnant from blowjobs.”

this fic has taken over my brain in the past week or so and i wasn't supposed to write it now because i have three other fics i need to finish, but here i am, having written nothing else but this for days now.

“Good morning,” Alex says, all smiles, lying on his chair, sunglasses on. Henry stands there like an idiot, looking at Alex and thinking back to everything they did the night before, at how he kissed almost every corner of that body, and hopes that he will get to do it again tonight. “Don’t stand there like an idiot and sit - oh.” He can see Alex’s eyes finally landing on his neck. “Oh shit. I’m sorry. Did your parents see that?” “They absolutely did and I lied straight to their faces because I didn’t notice until I came back to my room after breakfast,” Henry explains, as he lies down on the deck chair next to Alex. “Oh shit. I’m so sorry.” “You know that’s not exactly believable if you say that with that smile on your face, right?” “Yeah, like.
