So okay I’m trying to submit this design to the Yetee because Wild Arms 1 is gonna be played at AGDQ and I’ve never seen anything Wild Arms-related on the site before so...

For the fandom ask meme, how about 001. Pyre, and/or 003. the Moon-Touched Girl?
Thanks for the prompts! Let’s see…
001: Pyre
Favorite character: This is a fairly close one among the top three, but I’d say Ti’zo followed by Jodi and the Moon-Touched Girl in some order. I tend to dislike little mascot animal characters, but Ti’zo is an exception. He looks like a bat and he has so much attitude. He can be cute or he can be a little cuss, but there are also moments where you feel the weight of how long he’s lived and the people he’s lost. At one point in the game, I was wondering if he might be one of the Scribes or even a god in disguise. (It was the way the Voice reacted when I first put him in a rite. I knew something was up with this imp.) I also love that you see him with so many close bonds with different members of the cast, from old friends like Oralech to newcomers like the Moon-Touched Girl. The combination of him being ancient and scrappy as well as very small and cuddly works for me.
Least favorite character: Keeping it to the main cast, I’m going to say Sir Gilman. I don’t hate him, but he doesn’t interest me as much and his style of play frustrated me.
5 Favorite Ships (canon or non-canon): I don’t have any real ships for this game. I thought Jodariel’s and Ignarius’ scenes were endearing and funny, but I wouldn’t say I’m committed to the ship.
Character I Find Most Attractive: Celeste. My goodness, what a beautiful character design. Elegant but superhuman and powerful. I also think Tamitha and Oralech have really cool looks.
Character I would marry: I think I could do a lot worse than Hedwyn. He’s hardworking and decent, and he has a great smile.
Character I would be best friends with: I can only hope Ti’zo would want to be friends with me.
a random thought: I also love that big drive imp that sits by the door of the blackwagon. I may have beeped it every time I went in.
An unpopular opinion: I think it’s better than Bastion. For me, the larger cast and clearer narrative arc worked better. The interplay with the main villain is so uniquely handled. The visuals are punchier. I enjoyed the gameplay more. But this is so subjective, and absolutely not a hill I would die on.
My Canon OTP: Don’t have one.
My Non-canon OTP: *cough* You mean that specific headspace where I take that unofficial Jen Zee art of the Transistor characters in rites robes and start shipping Red and Boxer in a Pyre AU?
Most Badass Character: Jodariel. She’s strong, her emotions run deep, she learns from her mistakes, she unobtrusively takes care of people.
Most Epic Villain: I mean, I do really love the Voice. Not as in I would ever want to know the Voice, but as a character and plot device. Like they did with Rucks and the Boxer, the team did such a good job establishing a rapport with this unseen, barely-known character and the game’s protagonist, and then the actual player as well. You hear this hammily imperious voice and you want to know more. It helps that the Voice has a lot of variety in his reactions – pleasure, contempt, confusion, even a (very entitled) sense of hurt betrayal when you don’t dance to his tune.
Pairing I am not a fan of: I can’t think of one that bothers me especially, certainly not one that I’ve seen enough to be annoyed by.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I don’t think the game fails any of its characters. I would’ve liked to have seen more with/about Celeste, because her motives and attitude are very shadowy. I think she’s meant to be remote, ancient, mysterious, but she also comes across as having little context. So when her character does develop, there wasn’t a lot of payoff for me.
Favorite Friendship: Leaving out the ones involving the Reader, I’ll say Moon-touched girl and Ti’zo. I would’ve liked to see more with Hedwyn and Jodariel, given their backstory.
Character I Most Identify With: I’m going a bit in circles as I try to decide. I could say the Voice because I do love to lecture, but I’m going to think better of myself and tentatively say Jodi. I’m not strong and badass and I’m terrible at basketball. But, like her, I can be a little suspicious and withdrawn, but I do actually care about people, and once you’ve known me for like ten years I start to warm up and be emotionally present. And, like Jodi, I would like to spend my free time brushing the drive imps.
Character I Wish I Could Be: I would certainly like to be hardworking and brave and humble like Hedwyn.
003: The Moon-touched Girl
(Whom I will call Bae, because the game told me that couldn’t possibly be her name, so I said that it was.)
How I feel about this character: In some ways, I feel she’s a little precious. Wide-eyed and innocent and spiritual. Deeply isolated and traumatized, but not in any way that makes it difficult to be around her. She’s very idealized. But at the same time, I find her very endearing. Her dialogue highlights the unusual speech patterns they used for this game. Her design is delicate and otherworldly, but also sharp-edged and energetic, and she has those blazing red eyes. She’s been through so much, and I love seeing her making connections and finding her family with the other characters. Also, she was my absolute favorite character to play as and I never let her go. Which is fine, because even in the Downside, she’s learned to be happy.
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: No one especially. That could maybe be in her future, but I don’t think she’s looking for it right now.
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Ti’zo, though thinking about it, maybe Jodariel actually. That scene where she hugs Bae is such a vivid moment.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Possibly what I said above, about her being too good to be true.
One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: Nothing that comes to mind except maybe to have her history be dealt with more realistically. It might’ve been too much for the story to go into without sidetracking the plot.
Favorite friendship for this character: Possibly Jodariel’s edging out Ti’zo here. Though on the other hand, Bae and Ti’zo have more of an equalized relationship, without any parental overtones. So Ti’zo and Bae.
My crossover ship: This is a bit obscure, but I might be able to see her with someone like Rudy from the original Wild Arms. Like Bae, he’s been forced to spend a lot of his life on the outskirts, and he’s also spent most of his years wandering. Bae comes across as very assured and secure in herself, so I wouldn’t assume she’d gravitate towards an older mentorlike figure. Rudy has a similar open-hearted youthfulness to Bae. Once she learned about the dark, dangerous issues surrounding him, I don’t think she’d be fazed. Rudy would be stunned by her nonjudgmental acceptance, and she’d have a steady, sure-footed partner who could roll with her eccentricities.

A while back you mentioned having analysis on what Symphogear inherited from Wild Arms, would be stoked to hear those if you're up for sharing.
In general, most of the parallels to Wild ARMs are starting at the 4th, which is somewhat around the time Agematsu took over music direction for the series following Michiko Naruke (who people will most recognize for her remix of Bramble Blast/Stickerbrush Symphony in Smash Bros) taking medical leave over stomach ulcers.
In Wild ARMs 1, advanced weapons like guns were called Ancient Relic Machines, or ARMs. There's a different meaning to the acronym in each game. Like in 2, ARMS is Action Remote Mobile Squad, a paramilitary elite squad beholden to no nation that your team is assigned, much like SONG in Symphogear GX
ARMs in most games are similar to Gears in that they're (usually) relics of an old civilization, that just so happen to be used for fighting aliens (Mother in 1, an entire galaxy in 2, a lovecraftian nightmare entity in 3). In 4 in particular, ARMs couldn't be used by just anyone and needed to be attuned to the user, wielders of which were called Gene Drivers.
While the dynamics of the original Symphogear trio were said to be inspired by the classic Getter Robo dynamic, there are also still very clear references to the original protagonists of WA1
Cecilia Adlehyde: An idealistic princess in a rotting world, her ingame special ability, Mystic/Extension allows her to expand the effects of items and spells to her entire party. This is shown in Hibiki's ability to transfer and multiply her power exponentially by holding hands (Mystic + Force Carrots is the key to cheesing any boss)
Jack Vambrace (van Burace): The oldest member of the team. While he starts off more jovial, it hides a tragic past as he carries on the memory of fighting alongside his partner and lover now gone, as the sole survivor of an attack by said aliens. In case the parallel wasn't obvious, he wields a katana. His special ability, Accelerate, guarantees he acts first after you give commands to the party for a turn. Like Tsubasa, he acts as the voice of reason and caution
Rudy Roughknight: The sole ARMs wielder, his later armaments include bazookas, satellite lasers, and gundam funnels. Ostracized at youth for offputting stoicism and ability to throw barrels like Donkey Kong while being 3ft tall at the time, it's later revealed that he is an artificial human, a homunculus to be exact, created by a precursor civilization to fight aliens (of which he was not aware himself until he had to cut off his own arm to avoid getting dragged into a portal with a villain, in the remake, he doesn't have a blade on him so...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rudy's ability, Lock On, guarantees his attacks will hit while also increasing their damage, certain ARMs will have their properties altered while using Lock On. While Chris is infinitely more boisterous than our silent protagonist, her affinity for firearms, and her grooming by Fine as a weapon and past as a child soldier finish the last of the parallels of the original team
Even beyond WA1, Hibiki's Berserker Mode is a clear ringer for Ashley Winchester's Lord Blazer possession through the majority of WA2
As for Maria...
In Wild ARMs 4, one of the members of the antagonist organization Brionac is the older brother of one of your party members and probably the best character in the game (tied with the fuckhouse Raquel Applegate), Kresnik Atreidhe, among the misguided or reprehensive villains he stands out as an anti-villain/anti-hero. He resents the protagonist for being a natural Gene Driver, while he is an Artificial Gene Driver and has to take medication that slows the rate at which his use of ARMs essentially erodes his body, but he and the protagonist both wish to protect his younger sister, and after having a private duel with a kickass theme decide to put aside their differences for the time being. Maria is essentially his character realized to the end instead of being The Badass Guest Character You Wish You Could Keep Who Disappears Tragically (even though its implied that he survived and just walked the fuck out after)
That's just scratching the surface with everything that immediately comes to mind though and I'm not good at organizing my thoughts very coherently
