#the timing of this poll is unfair lol I just replaced mine a week and a half ago after having one for five years#the shortest I've had a smart phone was a little more than this (maybe 2.6 or 2.7?)#and that's largely because between the gps bringing me in fucking circles and it freaking out about the basement humidity it was breaking#this time I mostly did it because I knew I was going to have to eventually and I wanted to before it was desperate#especially because I watched my mother break her last two phones real bad#and now my old one is sitting on my desk because unlike the one before it I need to find somewhere I can find it if the new one DOES break#anyway I also buy them several models back so my last phone stopped updating android versions like two years ago#because planned obsolesce means that even if you can maintain the physical phone eventually everything stops being compatible

I think one of my favorite creative joys is seeing how many different things people can do with the same concept. give ten writers the same starting point, or basic plot, or set of tropes to use and you're still going to get wildly different end results
the details you focus on, the ones you omit, turns of phrase, tone, and framing, the cadence and tempo of the sentences themselves, all the little fingerprints you've left littered across the prose — how you tell the story matters, and your personal voice is what makes it unique
