sixteenth ceremony - Kristen and Ian
Music & Welcome
Welcome everyone. We’re here today to celebrate the wedding and marriage of Ian Lamson Blackmer and Kristen Lewis Gage. Really with an emphasis on celebrate, once we do this wedding thing. We’re so happy everyone is here to share this day. Thank you for coming to this beautiful place, their home, at this BEST POSSIBLE time of the year.
This time of year, Autumn, is a period of learning to balance light and dark of learning to let go and accepting the shorter days and longer nights and the beginning of the annual and continual cycle of the earth’s rejuvenation.
When we contemplate Autumn’s changes, we grow more appreciative of all the beauties which surround us and are within us. We hold fast to our memories, reflect on our choices & prepare to hunker down with our loved ones and our loved things. The snuggling season is nearly upon us.
Intro to Ceremony
My favorite part, possibly, of performing weddings is getting to be the person who helps smooth the path for my friends and neighbors to share their lives with one another. “No matter how this day goes, by the end of the day, you’ll be married” can be a calming thing to hear.
I first learned these two were going to be married from someone who had seen them together in Chef’s Market right after they made their decision. “Something was up with those two….” she said.
Ian I’ve known since we worked together at RTCC, talked computers and farming and Randolph and shop talk. I was trying to get him to join the Conservation Commission right around when he was asking if I could perform this ceremony “Oh THAT’S what it was....” We made a deal... and here I am... and now he’s helping preserve the town’s natural resources with me and some other folks who all care about the place we live.
Kristen I mostly know by reputation as someone who keeps us all healthy, someone who used to be (like many of us are) a “frenemy” with fitness and now helps us all learn to harmonize with our bodies and be better versions of ourselves. She’s embedded into the community... kids know her as the bike blender lady... she does her time at the Town Hall working for the town’s Recreation Advisory Committee. A sprint through her facebook sees one word repeated over and over again and that word is happy followed not far behind with grateful.
You guys, this is going to be great.
A wedding is an event. I’d say “just an event” but it’s important for its symbolism. A finger held in the page of the book of your lives. “We were here, and our friends and families with us. We had some food. Met some people. We shared some hopeful joy.”
A marriage is a decision you make once together and then over and over again for the rest of your life. It’s a process of becoming yourselves, together. With love and trust and hope, saying
You, I love.
You, I want to be with.
You, I will care for, forever.
I’d like to read "From Beginning to End" by Robert Fulghum
You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making promises and agreements in an informal way. All those conversations that were held riding in a car or over a meal or during long walks—all those sentences that began with "When we're married" and continued with "I will and you will and we will"—those late night talks that included "someday" and "somehow" and "maybe"—and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart.
All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding. The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, "You know all those things we've promised and hoped and dreamed—well, I meant it all, every word."
Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another—acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, and even teacher, for you have learned much from one another in these last few years.
Now you shall say a few words that take you across a threshold of life, and things will never quite be the same between you. For after these vows, you shall say to the world, this—is my husband, this—is my wife.
Vows/Readings
Kristen will read “In the Arc of Your Mallet” by Rumi
Ian will read “Variation on the Word Sleep” by Margaret Atwood
Your wedding day, is one brief day in time, and although your vows are spoken in a matter of minutes, they are promises that will last a lifetime.
Do you Kristen take Ian as your lawfully wedded husband…. will you love him comfort him, cherish him and be his partner
in sickness and in health
in sorrow and in joy
so long as you both shall live?
[I do]
Do you Ian take Kristen as your lawfully wedded wife…. will you love her comfort her, cherish her and be her partner
in sickness and in health
in sorrow and in joy
so long as you both shall live?
[I do]
Rings
Lula do you have the rings?
Ian will you now place the ring on Kristen’s finger and repeat after me please?
Let this ring symbolize my love and commitment to you.
Kristen will you now place the ring on Ian’s finger and repeat after me please?
Let this ring symbolize my love and commitment to you.
With the power vested in me by the State of Vermont and the voters of Randolph it is now my honor and privilege to pronounce you husband and wife. You may now celebrate with your first kiss as a married couple.
Congratulations.
“Please take some time to mingle, play, explore, and we’ll gather for dinner under the tent in roughly an hour.”

Have you ever wanted to draw something but you fought due to your skill level at the time you decide not to do it
I would be lying if I said that never happened, however despite that I still attempted to draw it out anyways. Normally nowadays, even if I think I don’t have enough skills for it I’ll still make an attempt. I’ll start drawing but end up not finishing the artwork. At least I can have the practice and attempt of trying to draw the something! I might not be good at it at the time, yet it could be motivation to try it again later down the line when I do feel like I have enough skills to attempt it again.
Especially with my bad memory, due to the remnant of the attempt of said drawing I can be like “oh yeah! That’s a thing I tried, maybe I could give it a go again and see if I can do it better now.”
This is especially true with me and comics as-well as wanting to open a store where I could sell stationery related objects that I designed. I don’t believe I have the skills to do them. I gave up on the whole store hijinks at the moment, but I still made notes and some really bad doodles for it if I ever wanted to go back to it one day when I have more confidence in the subject matter.
It sucks, but I also keep in mind that art of any kind is a trial and error ordeal. It’s a learning skill that you can only get better at if you keep doing it. Hence why I still try to do it even if I know for a fact it’s not going to end up how I envision it in my head. If I hit a wall or end up frustrated with my final product. At least I can say that I tried and that I could have learned something from it. Use the experience for any future projects.

I know I have more than these that I gave up on due to my lack of skill, but I’m still proud of them despite that. I know for a fact that I did learn something from all of my “failed” projects! Like my fnaf designs and mini comics, The few pieces I color, ect! I suppose it’s all in the manner of perspective.
I’m unsure if this helps at all or if this was an answer you where expecting, but this is what I have and still do when I feel like I don’t have enough art skills.

My discord account got wrongly reported, so I've been spending all day to try and get that appealed.
On anyother note, fair season is around the corner so I've been trying to figure out how to balance that with drawing and my two other jobs.
Also trying to figure out how I wanna convey my silly au! Would y'all prefer it to be more interactive or as an actual comic? /Genq

I might actually edit and fully render the Smiling critters I doodle for how Kickin sees the others to be used as icons. Unsure if I should leave them as is or have them not be damaged...
Also would anyone be interested in that? /gen

I was working on updating my commission sheet, but then my work asked me to cover another's shift. [I honestly don't mind it lol.]
I'm unsure if I'll be able to upload any digital drawings, but I'll definitely try and share some traditional art if I have the time!

I'm thinking of streaming me rendering the Smiling Critter icons on Sunday. Am just unsure when on Sunday I should do it. [Not to mention it's more than likely going to take me the whole day to get all of them done-]
It's been a long time since I've last streamed me drawing art. Should I?

Poppy chapter three reminded me I have a bunch of old sketches and doodles I never shared. More so the old silly comic I did for practice before chapter two came out.
I may clean them up a little and share them. Kinda missed how sassy I used to draw kissy.
