Guilt and fear recoiled inside of him despite the warmth his mother’s hand holding him so securely like all those years ago, when everything used to be cold, damp, and so

desolate

“I am scared, but I'm more scared of my boys getting hurt.” she whispered painfully at just the thought of it “you are all still so young to hold onto something that isn’t even your fault.” Raph could only close his eyes, giving into her sheltered hands.

He was confused, how isn’t this his fault? They chose to stay with Carol and April out of desperation and now that desperation became the embodiment of danger, if it isn’t his than who? The man who used to raise them? Then that means he has to hold that anger again but he doesn’t want to, he doesn't want to exhaust his energy towards something that isn’t there anymore.

“But we’re a burden…”

His mother shushed him as she wrapped her arms around his neck hiding him from the world she fiercely wants to keep them safe from.

“A burden I do not regret carrying.”

Firm as she spoke, as her arms held her child, as her heart held this family close, she will not hesitate to protect them at all cost.

With wide eyes, he breathed shakily.

“okay.”

In spite of his larger structure, he never felt so small, so scared and

tired.

“Okay…” He buried his head onto her shoulder and let his tears fall. —-------------------- AbandonedAU!Raph has this thing called Older Child Syndrome like his OG counterpart, he is overly-protective of his brothers when they are still with Yoshi (Splinter) and it goes over-drive when they are abandoned by him.But it took a back seat when the O’neils adopted them since he isn’t the oldest anymore (April is 16 while he is 15, he also finally has a parent that is present so he doesn’t have to hold all of this burden anymore.) But when the past comes shoving in due to them having the Hamato blood and the whole yokai situation, he feels as if it’s his fault therefore he should take all of the brunt and responsibility for it, slightly going back to that phase when things are dark.
