Just days ago, TV's most outspoken comedian, Roseanne Barr, stood before an audience of 1,000 at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Denver and made a claim that was as shocking as it was serious: "My name is Roseanne," she said, "and I am an incest survivor." The invitation-only gathering had been organized by Survivors United Network and was composed of adult incest survivors and therapists. They had no idea who the evening's guest speaker would be. During her 30-minute speech, Roseanne, 38, said she had been sexually abused during her childhood in Salt Lake City but had suppressed the memories until a triggering incident nearly two years ago caused them to come flooding back. She said she had since undergone extensive therapy. Inspired by former Miss America Marilyn Van Derbur Atler, an incest survivor who told of the experience in People earlier this year, Roseanne decided to tell her own story as a way of letting other incest victims throughout the country know that they were not alone. She trembled visibly as she read her prepared text, saying, "My father molested me until I left home at age 17," and saying there was emotional abuse from her mother.
Reached at their home in Salt Lake City, Roseanne's parents, Helen and Jerome Barr, declined to discuss their daughter's allegations, and referred a reporter to their lawyer, Melvin Belli, of San Francisco. His clients, says Belli's assistant Kevin McLean, are "denying all the allegations against them. We will have a response to every allegation she is making," he adds. Roseanne's brother, Ben Barr, visited at the Utah AIDS foundation, of which he is executive director, said "No comment" when asked about Roseanne's accusations. Despite repeated attempts by People, Roseanne's sisters, Stephanie and Geraldine, could not be reached for comment.

Tom Arnold Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson
Wow, is Tom Arnold, writer, producer, comedian, star on screens big and small, and an old friend of my beau’s, inspiring! And fun! The latter, no surprise. The former, almost shocking. His talent has always been brilliantly apparent, but this was not the fast-talking, almost scarily manic man I saw interview Shep Gordon ten years ago. A far cry from it. Today’s Tom still has a lot to say but this Tom is humble, thoughtful, wise, generous with his experience, strength, hope, heart, and time, and very clearly sober. To say he’s impressive is grossly understated. I’m in awe of his transformation and his strength of character. Tom’s devotion to his children is so sweetly sincere, it’s obvious they’re the loves and focus of his life. At 64, which he unabashedly shares, it’s so lovely to behold his joy describing what many parents might perceive as mundane tasks. Tom appears to take none of it for granted. (Dig his orange Daddy nails!) We spoke of his own troubled childhood, his alcoholic, disappearing mother, sans rules, his young father left to care for three small children when he was but a child himself, the abuse Tom suffered, and the justice he later sought and achieved as much as that was possible, the impact of Andy Kaufman on young Tom, his starting to do standup, Roseanne, writing, his marriage (s) - there have been four, and the mess of his current divorce - turning that lemon into lemonade with his thoughtful Divorce Party Podcast, his addictions, getting sober, going out and doing it again, a couple of times, most recently, off Benzos, Tom says very much as horrendous as portrayed in Dope Sick. It feels to this recovering addict like this time it’s for keeps. Tom Arnold is a model of recovery. He goes to meetings, is of service, both inside and out of the rooms, lives an honest, thoughtful, generous life, and is doing some of the best work of his career.  He spoke of some major health scares, Arnold Schwarzenegger, losing 80 pounds and how he did and is keeping it off. In reverence to the strike, we spoke of only one of his upcoming projects - Underdeveloped - which received a waiver perhaps as it shines a light on studio greed. It drops Sept 8th on Tubi.
I’ve long been a fan of Tom Arnold’s work. I’m now a devoted fan of the man. The hour flew. Like all great entertainers, he left me wanting more, more, more!

Hollywood and Elm Part 5 - Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)
In today's review, I find that ending often requires facing your fears. As I attempt a #positive review of Freddy's Dead #LisaZane #RobertEnglund #TobeSexton #LezlieDeane #ShonGreenblatt #BreckinMeyer #RickyDeanLogan #YaphetKotto #JohnnyDepp
Thinking about it, there can only be so long that a killer in a slasher film can go on. Soon enough, people would adapt, or they would run out of victims. What would happen if the likes of Freddy, or Jason, got their way? The results wouldn’t be sustainable. In 1991, the final bell tolled as audiences got to grips with Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. Taking the premise to its logical…

Qualifying Rounds
After 851 submissions and 346 total schools, submissions are now officially closed. The bracket rounds will consist of 256 schools. All schools that got two or more submissions are guaranteed a place in the bracket rounds. Schools that got only one submission will have to go through qualifying rounds to get to the brackets. There are 214 schools with only one nomination, and 125 available spots in the bracket. Following the qualifiers, schools will be seeded according to the number of submissions they received.
Qualifiers will consist of 43 polls, with each poll containing five possible schools. The polls were created using a randomizer. The two schools with the most votes will immediately advance to the bracket round. The school with the third most votes has a good chance of advancing as well, but not guaranteed. There are 38 spots available for the 43 third place winners. Thus, I'll be eliminating the 4 third place winners with the least number of votes (numbers as opposed to percentages).
(I know this all seems very convoluted, but I am an English major trying to do math, this is about as well as it was ever going to go.)
I'll be posting six polls a day (except for the last day where I'll be spicing it up by posting seven!) Below the cut you can see which polls will be posted each day. If the school you submitted doesn't appear in the qualifiers, then congratulations, that means it got two or more votes and has immediately advanced to the bracket stage.

A Queer History of SNL, Part One
Welcome to a new season of Gayest Episode Ever. It will be a Saturday Night Live-centric season. Among the regular, sitcom-focused episodes, we will be doing periodic deep dives into the LGBTQ-focused sketches that ran on the show during its various eras.
To kick it off (and to kick off the new season), we are starting with a two-part look at the various queer-adjacent recurring sketches from SNL. This first episode covers the launch of the show until the mid-90s, and next week’s episode will get us through the current era. Enjoy? Maybe? It’s a lot to take in, honestly, but we swear it’s worth discussion.
Here are this episode’s sketches:
Anita Bryant (s5e16 — Burt Reynolds, April 12, 1980)
Dion (s9e8 — Flip Wilson, December 10, 1983)
Nancy Reagan (s11e2 — John Lithgow, November 16, 1985)
Coffee Talk  (s16e13 — Roseanne Barr & Tom Arnold, February 2, 1989)
It’s Pat (s17e3 — Kirstie Alley, October 12, 1991)
Lyle the Effeminate Heterosexual (s17e16 — Mary Stuart Masterson, March 21, 1992)
Mickey the Dyke (s22e8 — Martin Short, December 7, 1996)
Ambiguously Gay Duo (s23e20 — David Duchovny, May 9, 1998)
Jeffrey’s (s26e12 — Sean Hayes, February 2, 2001)
Mango (s27e9 — Ellen DeGeneres, December 15, 2001)
You can watch the sketches on Patreon. You can see Drew’s master list of LGBTQ-focused SNL sketches here.

Over the past couple of weeks I've been watching a lot of Rosanne (seasons 1-6) and honestly I don't think I've ever hated a celebrity's fall from grace more than Roseanne Barr/Arnold/whatever's, it might sound like mental gymnastics but the woman who made television that groundbreaking and progressive is not the same woman she's been for the last decade or so

My Cast For A Modern Day Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare
This topic has been on my mind since the 2010 remake of the original A Nightmare on Elm Street came out, due to all of those rumors circulating from around that time of a sequel to said remake, which would combine Freddy's Revenge and Dream Warriors together...somehow? Anyway, I got to thinking about a potential Freddy's Dead remake, and what that would look like/who the potential cast would be for such a thing.
For this casting list, I will:
Not be trying to rewrite the characters I'm casting. For example, I'm not going to say that Spencer's genderfluid/gay/has ADHD because those are things that I headcanon him to have, and they're not brought up in the canon of the original movie.
Not be rewriting the plot of Freddy's Dead. That is not the point of this post at all, and also that is at least an AU fic on AO3's worth of writing, and I'm already trying to plan that out.
Make my choices based on an actor's visual resemblance to the original characters mostly. If there are other resemblances, such as personality or vocal, I will point those out too.
Not be including any cameo characters (ie. Alice Cooper as Mr. Underwood or Roseanne and Tom Arnold as that crazy Springwood couple) because there are too many, they are insignificant, and we'd be here for a while. I also will not be recasting Freddy himself, as I have an attachment to Robert Englund's Freddy.
THESE CHOICES ARE PURELY MY OPINION! If you don't agree with my decisions, or if you actually have another actor/actress for the character I list, feel free to leave them in the replies.
Okay, with all the disclaimers and explanations out of the way, let's start things off here with the main four teenagers. So that's John Doe, Carlos Rodriguez, Spencer Lewis and Tracy Swan.
John Doe - Joe Keery
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting off with the blank slate fake protagonist character probably wasn't a good idea, but here we go. Totally didn't have same problem as I did with Tracy /s. I actually had Jake T. Austin in this slot last night, but after sleeping on it, and doing the other three teenagers, I changed my mind and decided to look at other options. Looking at those other options led me to Joe Keery, specifically when he played Steve Harrington in Stranger Things.
Freddy's Dead's John Doe really isn't out of Joe Keery's wheelhouse when you think about it. He played Steve Harrington, a teenager who fought the modern day equivalent to Freddy Krueger, and John Doe died by the actual character of Freddy Krueger. The physical resemblance between them is clearly there, Joe's hair is a little longer, and he has a slightly smaller face shape, but that's about the only differences I can see. John Doe and Steve also deal with people not believing them when referring to supernatural happenings that are currently occurring/literal fucking demons wrecking havoc on a town they're from. Also John is canonically the oldest teenager in the movie, being 18 years old, and Steve was 19 during Stranger Things season 4. So Joe Keery is no stranger to playing characters younger than he is in real life.
Carlos Rodriguez - Omar Rudberg
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do I even need to explain? LOOK AT THIS PHYSICAL RESEMBLANCE! THEY ARE THE EXACT SAME PERSON???? IT'S SO UNCANNY!!
When I first saw Omar Rudberg in Young Royals pictures and gifs, I literally only saw a modern version of Carlos. Then I discovered this picture of him in this outfit on Pinterest, and I remembered this outfit Carlos wore in the beginning of Freddy's Dead, and it only solidified my brain's decision for me.
Tumblr media
Here's a bonus pic of Omar in a hoodie that's very similar in hue to the one Carlos wears for the rest of the movie :)
Speaking of Young Royals...
Spencer Lewis - Edvin Ryding
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Y'all I had such a hard time with Spencer. There was almost no one that looked like Spencer in the modern age, which is surprising given that long hair on guys is still a fairly popular trend, but I finally decided to give this imaginary recasted role to Edvin Ryding. While Edvin may not look exactly like a young Breckin Meyer, he still has that essence of Spencer's general appearance, in my opinion. Also, Edvin has already partially played Spencer's character type in Young Royals as Prince Wilhelm. By character type, I mean someone of an affluent background struggling with being themselves and rebelling against the traditions, standards, and or expectations set by those before them. Also Omar Rudberg is Carlos in this imaginary recasting, so Edvin being here also just seems right for that reason.
Tracy Swan - Hunter Schafer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah Tracy...Tracy, Tracy Tracy. You were a challenge too, but for the opposite reason of Spencer. While Spencer had almost no one that looked even remotely like him, you had WAY TOO MANY options for me to pick from, I essentially went from a drought to a flood. Anyways, I chose Hunter Schafer for the role of Tracy mainly for her appearance, plus Jules Vaughn looks like a girl who can whoop an ass despite looking like a twig. Also, Hunter just has that natural look on her face that screams "I don't give a flying fuck about what you're saying, leave me the fuck alone."
Moving on to the two main adult figures in the movie, beyond the kids' parents and Freddy because I already said I'm not including them here, Dr. Maggie Burnham and Doc (why the hell did they not give him a real name????)
Dr. Maggie Burnham - Winona Ryder
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have no other justification for this than physical resemblance. I mean, this could also be my brain processing voices weirdly, but Lisa Zane and Winona Ryder sound extremely similar to each other. Winona Ryder was also a 90's staple actress, so I felt like it would be appropriate for a remake/recasting for an early 90's movie to include her. She's already playing a motherly/authoritarian role to a bunch of kids that aren't hers in Stranger Things, too, so that checks out. No, including her and Joe Keery in the same list was not intentional.
Doc - Eamonn Walker
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I used this pic of Eamonn because almost every time we see Doc he's in the gym training with Tracy.)
I already knew this one was going to be difficult, as no one can truly replace the great Yaphet Kotto. However, for this recasting I had to, so for Doc I chose Eamonn Walker! For those who don't recognize Eamonn, he plays Chief Boden on Chicago Fire. I only know who he is because my mother is obsessed with the Chicago trilogy of shows. I will make the note that Eamonn and Yaphet once again sound very similar to me.
So there's my modern day recasting of the main six characters of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare! Like I said, I wasn't going to include Freddy himself, or any of the cameo characters. We would have been here forever if I were to do that, and this recasting alone took me two days to do, so yeah.
((Since I'm a masochist if you want to know who I'd cast as the kids' parents in the modern day, lmk))

I've got some cringe for you
Tumblr media
Submitted by @mushrooms-in-space
I'm very much a 'to each their own' kinda guy when it comes to this. There's gonna be someone out there for just about everyone.
Roseanne and Tom Arnold found each other. Hell Randy Quaid's been married twice, granted he cleans up nice.
WTF you mean this is cousin Eddie
Tumblr media
All that said, I still find that statement up there hard to believe.
Not really though, if there's people that can find me attractive, then there really will be someone for everyone.
still not convinced the ones that said it about me aren't lying tho
