💜 This I Promise 💜

LIII. Lovers
***
So, that's what Elvis meant when he told her to say that she's alright the next morning when she woke up.
Hell, even getting up was a chore; she had a freaking headache.
"Drank too much, eh?" Rosemarie uttered as she gave (F/N) some pills and a glass of cold water to ease her pain.
"I think,..." (F/N) answered as she finally managed to sit. She took the pills and the glass from her cousin and immediately consumed the medicine.
"You think? You even had Lord Shunerman bring you home last night. That's how wasted you were." Rosemarie reminded her as she removed her slipper and tucked her feet neatly beneath her on (F/N)'s bed.
And reminded (F/N) was. She and Elvis arrived home at, if she recalled correctly, about forty - five minutes past eleven. Her aunt, uncle, and Rosemarie, herself, arrived at approximately two in the morning. Or so Elvis mentioned. After all, he stayed with her until her family returned from the ball. He was also the one who mentioned to her uncle that she was too dizzy to stand that evening, so he took it as an initiative to take her home so she could rest.
Nile just uttered his thanks, but he seemed too suspicious of Elvis' motives. Who could blame him? Erwin Smith was her escort and not Elvis Shunerman.
But, other than that incident, she could not recall what else happened that night because she often drifted on and off sleep.
"Why did you leave him?"
"Sorry?"
Rosemarie faced (F/N) solemnly and took a few seconds before answering.
"Lord Smith. Why did you leave him last night?"
"What are you talking about - ouch!" (F/N) jolted after what she heard from Rosemarie that her headache kicked in again.
"Hey! Easy,..." Rosemarie said as she reached for her and helped her lie on the bed once more. "So, from the looks of it, you,... didn't leave him, yes?"
"What? I did not! Or maybe,..." (F/N) muttered as she rested her head on the soft down pillows. "I can't even remember. It was such a blur, and,..."
All of a sudden, memories of last night flooded back inside her head. Of him and Lord Reiss, those haughty nobles,...
... That seductive courtesan,...
Her heart dropped for a second.
Was it true what they said? That he had a mistress?
That he wanted her so she could be his next whore?
"It was such a blur, and,..." She repeated. "... I think he was the one who left me. That's how I got into drinking in the first place,..."
"That's a silly explanation. Why would Lord Smith leave you like that, huh?"
"How would I even know about that? And what's this Lord Smith business, anyway? I thought he's just a Commander,..."
"Of course, you haven't read today's paper!" Rosemarie grabbed (F/N)'s shoulder. "He is now - "
Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted her, making her stop mid - sentence.
"Come in!" Rosemarie called, allowing the person to enter.
The door slowly opened and their shy servant came in.
"Miss (F/N), you have a caller."
"A caller? At this early hour in the morning?" Rosemarie said and crossed her arms. "Who is it?"
The servant looked at (F/N) nervously. "Lord Smith wishes to see you."
"Alright. Tell the Lord that we'll get ready."
"Yes, miss."
"Thank you." Rosemarie uttered and dismissed the servant, who bowed and simply left the room, closing the door and leaving them.
The moment they could no longer hear the servant's footsteps on the hall just outside the room, her cousin hastily stood up and snatched away (F/N)'s comfortable blanket.
"Hey! What are you doing?" (F/N) complained.
"Speaking of the devil. He sure doesn't want you getting snatched away by other callers, eh?" Rosemarie said, helping (F/N) get on her feet. She led her towards the bathroom and practically shoved her inside.
"Rosemarie, you seem,... different today." (F/N) said as she stepped on the cold, marble tile of her fully furnished bathroom.
"What are you saying? I've always been different." her cousin answered and closed the door shut. "Don't forget to wash behind the ears!" she called behind the door like she was scolding a brat who refused to take a shower.
Thirty minutes later, (F/N) came out of the bathroom, wrapped in a thick towel, ears fully cleansed, and hair dripping wet at the ends. To her surprise, her cousin helped her dry her hair. She helped her get into a lime green dress she picked, herself, and she even brushed her hair.
"You are different today." (F/N) uttered as she watched her cousin in the mirror as she fussed over her like a maidservant.
Rosemarie didn't answer. Instead, she offered her hand, which (F/N) took, and helped her get up. Slowly, her eyes surveyed (F/N)'s form, appraising her from head to foot.
"Rose?" (F/N) began, but was interrupted when her cousin hugged her as tight as she could. She couldn't do anything but hug her cousin back. Was something bothering her?
(F/N) was still thinking about it when they finally arrived in the library.
"Anyway, There's a reason I woke you up, (F/N)." Rosemarie whispered. "I wanted to tell you something."
(F/N) turned to her in surprise. "What is it?"
Rosemarie gazed at her with that solemn look once more.
"Each of them have a secret of their own, but I don't see anything in them that would hurt you. They both love you, (F/N). You just have to,... choose carefully. It's all up to you."
"What are you saying?"
Her cousin hugged her once more, but this time, she whispered something to her that raised her suspicion even more.
"I'll miss you, (F/N)." she whispered.
"What? Rosemarie - "
"Alright! You're ready."
"Wait - !"
But, she was too late. Her cousin quickly left and closed the door behind her, leaving her in the quiet room.
I'll miss you.
That's what Rosemarie said.
What does that even mean?
"(F/N)?" a deep male voice said. She turned and almost gasped in awe at the sight before her.
There was no mistake that this man's Erwin. But, something about him is entirely different. Was it his white casual shirt that emphasized his muscular upper body? His rich mahogany riding breeches that called attention to his long and lean legs? Or was it his gentle smile and deep blue eyes that could disarm an entire battalion of female soldiers?
"Are you alright?" Erwin said as he went closer to her and touched her cheeks.
(F/N) flinched at his touch and drew back. Erwin was visibly disappointed at what she just did and let his arms drop to his side.
"Look, I deeply apologize for what happened last night." He uttered. "I shouldn't have left you there."
"No! It's f-fine,..." she stuttered nervously, feeling like a giddy teenager in front of a suitor.
"It's not fine. A gentleman should never leave his lady alone."
"Well," she said nervously, her heart beating a bit faster, heat rising up from her cheeks.
Why did he have to look so devastatingly handsome?
"Well?" Erwin whispered, his charming smile creeping up his lips once more.
"Forget about it." (F/N) said and mustered enough courage to look up at him with confidence. "Anyway, what brings you here?"
Erwin's eyes gleamed as he offered her his right arm.
"I want to show you something."
The moment (F/N) touched his arm, she was led outside the library towards the garden, where a huge, white stallion was waiting.
"Okay. Where are we going?" (F/N) asked, her amusement making her instantly forget what her cousin mentioned a while ago.
"You'll see."
It took them about an hour of horseback riding to reach the far side of the Capital where there were less houses and buildings. From there, they entered a huge gate that led to a massive private property that seemed to belong to a very rich nobleman.
"Commander Smith, aren't we trespassing a private property here?" (F/N) asked as she held unto Erwin's broad shoulders for support.
"Trespassing? No. I own this land." He simply said.
It took (F/N) a few more seconds before his words sunk entirely into her system. Yes, he was a Commander who was given the privilege to be one of the Capital's Honorary Nobles.
But, to own this too much property?
Rosemarie called him Lord. So, therefore,...
"Commander?" (F/N) said.
"Yes?"
"Are we - ?" she began, but could never get the courage to complete her sentence as the man led her past a huge, beautiful manor towards the denser forest behind it. Erwin brought the stallion to a stop and dismounted, helping (F/N) do so afterwards. And from there, he gently took her arm and led her to the forest.
"Commander, where are you taking me?"
The man faced her with a huge, proud smile plastered on his face. "Quite impatient, aren't we?"
"Because, you're not saying anything! You - "
"Yes?"
(F/N) was completely awestruck as she surveyed the beautiful city beneath them. Somehow, Erwin had led her near a cliff and she didn't even notice.
"I can't believe we're this high above the city." (F/N) muttered as her eyes drank the beautiful scenery before her.
"Do you like it?" Erwin asked.
"Yes. It's so beautiful."
"You know, it's even more beautiful in the evening."
"Sorry - ?"
As (F/N) turned to face the man behind her, she was so surprised to find him kneeling on the ground before her. What's more, her wildly beating, treacherous heart almost betrayed her as Erwin reached for his pocket and took a blue velvet box and showed it to her.
"Erwin, you can't be this serious,..." (F/N) said as he opened the box, revealing a gorgeous golden ring with a deep blue gem in it. It was the color of Erwin's eyes. He took it from the box and took her left hand.
"I see you have already called me by my first name." Erwin whispered, his seductive, yet gentle tone giving her a very sinful sensation.
"No! That's not true. I - "
But, before she could even blurt out any excuses, the man had already slid the ring into her finger where it perfectly lay like a princess to her throne.
"And I'll make sure that you'll say my name over and over as I make you mine. I will do anything to make you happy, (F/N). I will give you everything you deserve. I will protect you, no matter what."
(F/N) nervously swallowed. He didn't even propose to her. He insisted it upon her. But, how could she do anything? Here was a man who promised her all the world. A man who would protect her, no matter what.
A man who truly loved her.
"(F/N), I love you so much." Erwin whispered as he stood up once more and took her in his arms.
"Erwin, listen, I - "
"There you go. You said it again,..." he whispered as he gently touched her cheeks, making her look up at him. God, he's so tall!
"I didn't!" (F/N) breathlessly muttered as their foreheads came into contact, their breaths mixing.
"Let's see how far that will go,..."
"Erwin - !"
But, her objections came in too late as his lips came into contact with hers in a gentle kiss. The instant his lips move against hers, her body instantly melted, betraying her as she let the man pull her into a really tight hug. The moment his tongue demanded entrance, she could no longer think of something else. Her mouth opened and she was so shocked when she realized how far his tongue could go. But, what even shocked her was her body's instant response to his demands. She felt her weak self surrendering to his caress, and when she finally gave in, he crashed her body into his as their kiss went from shy to passionate. His huge hands went up and down her back, caressing her as his mouth savor the taste of her lips. She was about to push him away when, instead of a fair protest, a soft moan came out of her throat, giving the man much more motivation to kiss and caress her. Another moan, louder this time, sent him into oblivion as he slightly lifted her up, making her stand on her toes due to his overwhelming height.
However, something hard in his thighs that was starting to grind into her made her senses jolt as unknown feelings started invading her mind. And it was enough to make her gently pull her mouth away from him, a thin line of saliva still connecting them. An embarrasing wave of heat overwhelmed her as she wiped the saliva off her lips. She looked up at him,...
... and saw a raven - haired man with steel blue eyes.
She closed her eyes shut, and when she opened them once more, she saw the blue - eyed blonde giving her a worried look.
"(F/N)? Are you alright?"
"I'm - " she said, then inhaled a breath of fresh air. The feelings that Erwin gave her through his kiss were something new altogether. But, it felt like she experienced something similar.
And that man with the dark hair,...
She was positive - it wasn't her first kiss.
But, how did she know about that?
"(F/N)?" Erwin asked once more.
"I'm fine. Just,... a bit of a headache." she lamely lied.
But, Erwin bought it, anyway, as he offered to take her back home. He helped her get down once more, took her hand, and kissed her hand. And after that, he was gone.
(F/N) was still thinking about the kiss as she made a detour round the manor towards the garden. Back then after the kiss, she thought she saw that dark - haired man. In fact, it wasn't the first time she envisioned his image.
She was positive that her memories were giving her a clue about this.
If so, then that dark - haired man must've played a huge part in her life before she lost her memories. She looked at her left hand and saw the engagement ring that Erwin placed there.
No! She thought. I mustn't have accepted this ring from Erwin! That man is the key. He can bring all of my memories back,...
... I must find that man!
"(F/N)?" a voice that was deeper than Erwin's muttered not far from her. She looked up and was so relieved to find Elvis standing just outside the door that led to the library. Somehow and by interesting coincidence, he decided to call on her, as well.
She knew perfectly well that this was wrong, for Elvis Shunerman was an engaged man.
But, she couldn't stop running towards him, her heart telling her that there's nothing wrong with what she's doing. His arms spread open wide, waiting for her to crush into them. And when he finally held her, she couldn't stop the tears that flowed out of her eyes.
Levi thought that someone hurt her, so he instinctively checked all parts of her body.
"(F/N), what happened?" He said, his voice hoarse with utter worry. "Did someone hurt you?"
"I'm sorry! I shouldn't have,..." she cried, clinging unto him tightly, making his perfect white shirt crumpled. It was then that he noticed the ring on her finger. "I shouldn't have accepted!"
So, it was Erwin, after all,...
For a few seconds, he only thought of nothing but murder towards his former Commander. Until (F/N)'s cries and apologies brought him back to the present, pressing matters regarding her future. Erwin really was doing everything he can to take her away from him.
Levi pulled her into a really tight hug and caressed her back.
"I'm here. No one can hurt you." he whispered to her.
"I don't know why,..." (F/N) sobbed as she looked up at him. "I know this is wrong. But, oh God, I love you, Elvis! God, I'm so sinful! I should've said no to him."
"Forget about it. I'm here,..."
"I don't know why. I lost all my memories, but I truly felt different towards you. Like a friend I've lost for such a long time. But, now I want you back. I don't understand what I'm saying, but,... oh, God, I want you back!"
Levi's eyes widened. She may have lost her memories, but one thing's clear,...
Her feelings for him never vanished.
"(F/N), you never lost me. I lost you. And, I will bring you back to me. This I promise."
"Elvis,..."
But, she could no longer utter a word as the man crushed his lips unto hers in a very passionate kiss. She instantly gave in as Levi's tongue demanded entrance inside her. And when she opened her mouth, he hungrily took her, his arms crushing her tightly against her soft and fragile body.
He knew that someone might see them, but at that point, he couldn't care less. He had made up his mind. He will take her far away from here. Away from the Dawks, away from Erwin!
But, he wanted to take her!
Levi lifted her and brought her inside the library. He carried her towards the sofa where he gently put her. He positioned himself on top her, removed his cravat, and threw it away. She pulled him closer to her and started kissing him.
Jonas was humming to himself as he strutted towards the library to fetch the fairy tale books for Ivanna when he heard some moans coming from the sofa. It was there that he found (F/N) and Levi making out. Well, not that Levi was engaged to anyone. He's not Elvis, and, therefore, is an uncommitted man.
But, no! No one must see them! The poor souls didn't even notice or hear him coming in. And, for such a long time,...
Damn it all, they fucking deserved each other, no matter what anyone says about them!
"Jonas, I want Snowpunzel!" Ivanna suddenly invaded, making Jonas slightly shriek.
"Sweetpea! It's not here." Jonas said, shoving Ivanna away from the library and hastily closing the door behind him.
"But, you said it's here!" complained the little girl.
"I said that?" Jonas said, feigning innocence. "I thought I said the living room."
"But!"
"No buts! Move!" he said and finally managed to divert Ivanna's attention away from the library. And then, in a whisper, he said, "Go get the girl, Captain Levi!"
"But, I want Snowpunzel! Not Captain Brook!"
"Whatever."
"Elvis, I - ahh!" (F/N) moaned as Levi playfully bit her on the neck. He moved his lips on her smooth skin and found her lips once more. He kissed her to oblivion as he started to undress her, untying the ribbons on her dress. (F/N)'s mind seemingly whirled both in excitement and anticipation as Levi deepened the kiss, his skillful hands working their way to undress her. Her mind instantly died and went to Heaven when Levi removed his shirt, revealing his muscular and scarred body.
"(F/N), I love you so much,..." he said in a hoarse tone as he started grinding against her.
The girl moaned even louder as she felt Levi's hardness grinding against the middle of her legs. He was about to remove his pants when something screamed inside her, telling her to stop him.
"Elvis, wait!"
"Why?" he said, irritated and wanting to have her already.
"I'm sorry. We can't." (F/N) sat up and gave him an apologetic hug. "Not here."
Levi sighed in disappointment. Of course, they were still in Nile's house. How could the two of them do such a thing in his roof?
She said, not here, not no.
The poor girl was giving him permission, but, unfortunately, it wasn't the time.
He hesitantly calmed himself, drowning away the pleasure that was about to overtake him.
"I understand." Levi breathlessly uttered, feeling the unbearable pain in his abdomen. "We'll go away. Away from here."
"Where will we go?"
"Anywhere but here." Levi enveloped her in his arms once more. "Two days from now. Don't bring anything else. I'll meet you on my mansion."
"Yes."
"I love you, Elvis."
"I love you even more, (F/N)."
It was the happiest moment of (F/N) and Levi's life. And they were going to start a whole new life away from the glamour of the Capital. And although Levi didn't get to give her pleasure that day, he went home with a huge smile on his face.
They were going to be the happiest couple on earth.
The next day, (F/N) found Nile comforting Marie in the library. She was crying uncontrollably. On her hand was a note.
"Uncle Nile, what happened?"
Nile looked at her, his tired eyes even more tired looking than ever before.
"It's Rosemarie." he began.
"What?"
"My daughter,..." Marie cried. "She ran away!"
Jonas couldn't fathom the situation. His sister was a very obedient girl. He was aware of her defiance to their father's wishes.
But for her to run away from home?
The teen shrugged his head. All of a sudden, something on the floor near the sofa caught his attention. He looked at it and saw that it was a little leather - bound book. He picked it up and instantly realized that it might be Captain Levi's journal. He must've left it there when he and (F/N),...
"Oh, well. I'll give it to her later." he said, then shoved it in his pocket.

XLVI. Mirage

Marie had to catch up to her daughter Ivanna lots of times that day to bring her a coat so she would not get cold. The little girl just loved snow too much, she thought it’s a wonderful fantasy world.
Meanwhile, Jonas was still putting a safe distance between him and the rest of the family members that it’s already turning ridiculous. He even gave (F/N) a weird stare that one time they saw each other. The teen gave her that strange look and just walked past her.
Rosemarie, on the other hand, was a different story, altogether. The girl was just her usual, mystic self. Except that now that the Winter Season event was drawing closer and closer, she was getting more and more depressed for reasons (F/N) couldn’t quite tell. And what’s even more intriguing was her strange demeanor whenever Elvis came to visit. She gave the man this really strange look, and she could even remember that there was a time when she bravely called his attention for a conversation, but didn’t get to talk to him.
But, what’s even stranger was Ivanna’s behavior towards Elvis. Lots of times, the girl would attempt to pull the man’s hair for reasons she didn’t know. There was even a time when the little girl almost touched his hair, but he stood up, making her tumble to the ground from the chair she’s standing on. The man gave her a mortified look that most adults would find threatening, but knowing Ivanna, she still went on with her conquest of touching the nobleman’s hair.
Other than the children’s weird and unexplainable behavior, not to mention Erwin’s almost two months of absence, nothing out of the ordinary had occurred in the household.
Until that day.
The family was having dinner that one cold winter night when Nile called everyone’s attention by clearing his throat loudly, a mannerism he had whenever he was nervous to speak. And just like before, his wife urged him with a warm smile and a gentle touch.
Because, he needed all the help he could get.
“I would like to address this particularly to my children.” He said, then slightly coughed. He really wasn’t used to speaking in front of a large crowd, let alone his own family. Except, of course, whenever the need arises. “Rosemarie, my daughter, I hope you take the opportunity of the Winter Season to find new friends. I do hope that you find in this event the things you are looking for to get yourself prepared for this vast,… world.” He almost dropped his sentence, particularly, that last word, since their world’s really not that big to begin with.
However, the daughter didn’t look pleased or even excited. She didn’t even look up at her father. She just went on eating her dinner in solitude.
“My son, Jonas.” This particular task was taking its toll on him that he almost choked on his own food. All of them were aware of how difficult it was to speak with Jonas and to deal with his annoying mood swings. “After all the events this winter and the celebration for the upcoming new year, you are finally ready. I do hope that this event prepares you socially, if not physically, for your future enlistment in the Trainee Corps. I honestly believe, in all my heart, that you’ll pass as the top of your batch and that you’ll be able to enter the Military Police and be with me. I expect no one else but you to take over my honorary position as the Commander.”
However, the son didn’t look pleased or even excited. He didn’t even look up at his father. He just went on eating his dinner in solitude.
“Ivanna, I do hope that you’ll learn how to be more sociable towards children of your own age. You’ll finally be able to enter your first year of studying this coming year.”
The child wasn’t eating her dinner in solitude. She was playing with her dinner in solitude. But, just like her two siblings, she didn’t look up at her father.
“And (F/N),…”
But before he could even address her, Rosemarie looked up at him.
“Father, I have finally decided what I wanted to be.” She said, surprising her parents and even (F/N).
Nile was smiling at her. “What is it, child?”
“I want to be a journalist for the Berg Publications.” She said with utter determination in her eyes.
Marie choked on her food for the very first time in her life. Nile almost dropped the glass of water he was holding, and Jonas clutched at his spoon, a look of bravery in those dark eyes.
“Honey, I do hope you know how dangerous it is to be a journalist as of late.” Marie told her daughter after wiping her mouth with a pure white napkin. “Do you mean to say you wanted to be a novelist?”
“I agree, Rose.” Nile said, his demeanor slowly changing into a different, cloudier one. “You do know how many of them gets killed during reports? And it is a very awful paying job! You ought to be a novelist here in Wall Sina, instead. You’ll get paid lots and,… and at least you will never live in poverty,…”
“Why? What’s wrong with dying for the job you dreamed of?” And now, Jonas began talking, as well.
“What do you mean by that, dear?” Marie carefully said.
Jonas looked up at them, but before he could even face his parents, he gave (F/N) a long and meaningful glance, as if he was absorbing courage from her.
But,… why?
“Dad, I don’t want to be in the Military Police.” He said, finally looking at his parents, particularly his father.
“Oh, do you want to be in the Garrison, then?” Nile asked him.
Jonas clenched his fists and finally stood up.
“Are you blind?! I wanted to be in the SCOUTING LEGION!” Jonas screamed, his voice not cracking for once.
Nile stood up in anger and brought his fist down on the table, making all the utensils rattle in their faces. Ivanna was too startled that she covered her ears with the sudden change in the atmosphere.
“DON’T BE AN IDIOT, JONAS! YOU KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE DIE THERE! NOTHING GOOD WILL EVER COME TO YOU IN THAT GOD FORSAKEN PLACE BUT DEATH!”
“I DON’T WANT TO BE A MILITARY POLICEMAN LIKE YOU! YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW ANYTHING OUTSIDE THE WALLS! YOU ARE IGNORANT! YOU WILL DIE AN IGNORANT!”
“JONAS!” Marie also stood up from her chair and placed both her hands on top of her son’s shoulders. “Please, understand your father. He doesn’t want you to die. He wants you to live! He wants you to have a full and healthy life within these Walls. He wants you to have your own family!”
“Let’s stop pretending here. You all know that it is impossible for me to have my own family!” Jonas screamed at everyone. Then, he looked at (F/N) once more, and this time, with a pleading look.
Jonas,… you,…
“Regardless, it is your duty as a son to follow the footsteps of your parents.” Nile said, facing not only Jonas, but even Rosemarie, as well. “You don’t have a right to say anything while you’re still under my roof.”
“I’ll go away from here, then!” Rosemarie said, also standing up from her chair. And this time around, poor little Ivanna began crying.
“Don’t you dare, young lady!” Marie retorted, facing her own daughter.
“You two will go to the ball, whether you like it or not! You disobey me, and I will disown you! You disagree with me, then we don’t have anything to talk about!”
“I HATE YOU!” Rosemarie screamed at her parents, tears falling nonstop from her devastated eyes. “I THOUGHT YOU’D UNDERSTAND. I THOUGHT YOU’D SUPPORT ME! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU!”
Rosemarie dashed out of the dining area, hands covering her face, leaving her family behind.
Jonas smirked after his sister’s plight. He, then, faced his parents with a frown.
“You are such supportive parents. I have no idea.” He sarcastically said, then calmly left the room.
Ivanna went on crying, which urged Marie to carry the child out of the room, leaving Nile and (F/N) in the dining table.
Nile sighed and gestured for one servant to bring him a bottle of whiskey. Then, he finally noticed (F/N) staring at him from the other end of the table. He let out a pathetic laugh with the realization.
“You’re fortunate, you know that?” he calmly said to her.
“Hardly.” She answered. It was the truth.
“Do you know? About my children?”
“With Jonas, yes, I have a bit of an idea. With, Rosemarie, no. I was totally clueless."
"Oh."
Awkward silence. Since (F/N) could no longer take a bite of her food, she politely excused herself and left Nile, feeling sorry for the man.
She was about to go straight to her room when she saw Jonas sitting outside on the balcony. She took this as an opportunity and went outside, hoping that the teen no longer felt apathy for her.
Jonas felt her presence and looked at her, glancing at her calmly. She joined him there and also looked at the sky. The snow had stopped falling for the evening, so the night sky looked clear and beautiful.
At first, nobody uttered a word, until Jonas, himself, broke the silence.
“Do you know?”
“Yes.”
“Oh.”
Silence. After a few moments, Jonas sighed and faced (F/N).
“How did you do it?”
“What?”
“A Scout. How did you become one?”
Wait –
“I was,… one?”
Jonas’ eyes suddenly widened, having said something he shouldn’t have.
“Forget it.” He said, then left her as quickly as possible.
“Jonas, wait!” she said, but she was too late.
All of a sudden, flashes of her former memories entered her mind once, but this time, she saw people with blurred faces. She saw a dark – haired girl, a brunette, a blonde, a girl who looked similar to the blonde, a tall woman with glasses,…
… and that same raven – haired man who gave her strange dreams and sensations.
Just,… who were they? Who was that man?
And,… was she really a Scouting Legion Soldier?
***
No one ever dreamed of it happening.
Petra and her family’s understanding, particularly her blindness, was becoming a really huge issue for the family.
And it was becoming worse that one particular day when she came home and saw her mother chatting happily with (F/N). And what’s more, she was making that stupid, adopted bitch wear her dress. HER dress which HER MOTHER made her.
(F/N) and her mother saw Petra as she stood speechless on the living room.
“Petra, it’s not what you think,…”
“THAT’S IT! I HAVE ENOUGH OF YOU!”
“Petra, I made this for her. I thought you don’t  want yours, so we – “
“What, you threw it away?! Just like throwing my own feelings in the rubbish?!”
“We didn’t!” her mother was starting to burst into tears.
“Petra, stop being so stubborn and listen to your mother!” (F/N) stood and faced her sister, tired of all of her bullshit.
“YOU DON’T HAVE A SINGLE FUCK TO TALK TO ME LIKE THAT!” Petra screamed at her face, startling everyone in the room, especially her parents. "YOU'RE JUST ADOPTED. YOU DON’T BELONG HERE!”
“STOP!” her mother screamed at her and slapped her painfully across her face.
Petra held her left cheek, clearly hurt both physically and emotionally at what her mother just did, for the woman never lifted a finger against her.
But, now,…
Her mother realized her grave mistake and tried to comfort Petra.
“Dear, I’m so, so, sorry –“
“What?” Petra looked at her with those pain – filled eyes. She was still clutching her cheek. “You hurt me because of (F/N)?! How could you? I thought you’d support me! I thought you’d understand! Captain Levi is better than you. He never hurt me! He would never lift a finger against me! I HATE YOU! I FUCKING HATE YOU!”
“Petra!” her mother shrieked, not expecting those words from her. The hurt daughter fled from the room, leaving her family behind.
“Petra, wait!” (F/N) said then went after her, followed by her mother and her father.
They called onto their daughter. (F/N) called onto her. It doesn’t matter what she said to her. She’s still her sister. Her beloved sibling. And nobody else could take that place.
But, Petra would not listen to them. In fact, she never even turned just once.
She finally did after that. And when she did, it was already too late.
She heard screams, followed by a very startling sound. Still, she didn’t turn towards them.
“MOTHER!”
It was then that she finally turned,…
… And saw the limp body of her mother lying on the ground, with what remained of the carriage that ran her over lying on the ground not far from her.
Petra’s eyes widened. But, she still couldn’t believe her eyes. Until she went towards her and held her body close to her. Her father was also holding onto her, crying uncontrollably.
“GET HELP! ANYONE! PLEASE!” screamed the father at no one in particular, urging some to finally recover from their shock of what just happened and to call the Police and the medics, if there ever were on that district.
“Mom!” (F/N) was about to go near her when Petra pushed her angrily away.
“This is your fault, (F/N)! I won’t let you lay a finger on her!” Petra screamed as she angrily pointed at her.
She was still being hysterical until she felt her mother’s hand on hers. She looked down at her and saw her smiling at her, blood all over her once beautiful face.
“I’m s-sorry, my child.” She stuttered.
“M-mother?”
“I love you.” A single tear escaped her eye. Her world was beginning to get dark. The edges slowly became engulfed in complete darkness, until the image of the devastated Petra was left. But, even then, her sight went on to get darker. “I love you,… s-so much,…”
It was there on Petra’s arms that she breathed her last.
She couldn’t do anything.
She couldn’t do anything.

LVII. Again ( Part 2 )
***
The sun had set a long time ago and (F/N) still haven't found Kenny. Apparently, he never reported to MP Headquarters and nobody knew where he was. He wasn't even in the city bar. Practically everywhere she went, she wasn't able to locate him.
(F/N) wandered aimlessly at the streets, wanting so much to see Kenny.
"Am I too late?" she asked herself, until she heard some muffled voices in a dark alleyway.
"Alana, dear, you came." a voice that sounded like Kenny uttered.
"Why would I ignore an invitation from a man such as you, Captain Ackerman?"
"Captain Ackerman, it's Kenny!" (F/N) gleefully said, then went towards that alley. However, the scene she saw almost shocked her to death. Alana, who she recognized was Lord Reiss' mistress, was slowly taking off her clothes.
(F/N) hid behind some barrels and witnessed in horror as Alana showed Kenny her naked ample breasts. To this Kenny just smiled.
"Beautiful." he said. "Oh, I did mention that I don't go to brothels, right? Or was it someone else?"
Those words. He said those words to her in the bar last time they met.
Alana just shrugged and went closer to Kenny. "I don't know. Maybe some cheap whore you met outside the bar, hmm?" her arms snaked around Kenny's neck, pressing her breasts against his chest.
"I wonder." the man just muttered. (F/N) was about to look away when she heard Alana gasp. She looked at the two once more and noticed the beautiful courtesan drawing away from Kenny. She looked at the man and saw that he was holding a bloody knife. Her eyes widened even more when she noticed a long slash across her right arm.
"What is the meaning of this?! If you want to be dominant, then I'll let you! Why did you have to wound my beautiful skin like this?!" Alana seethed with anger.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe because you're the cheap whore you're talking about?" Kenny said and grinned while closing the gap between him and Reiss' mistress.
"No, no, no, this must be a joke. You're not trying to kill me, are you? Lord Reiss will kill you for this, you unloyal motherfucker!"
"I was never loyal to him. I just follow his orders."
"Orders? He would never order anyone to kill me!"
"He wouldn't. Unfortunately, you admitted to him that you are with child. His child, yes?"
The blood from Alana's face drained, making her as pale as death. She frantically started denying her words.
"No! No! I'm not! T-that's not true! I'm not pregnant! I never let him - !"
"Oh? Shall we test that out?" Kenny announced playfully as he pointed his knife towards her abdomen. Alana instinctively protected her womb, and this made Kenny even more amused.
"Lying after all, are we?" he said, his smile as sadistic as ever.
"No! Please, don't hurt me. You won't hurt an expecting woman, would you? Have compassion!"
"Oh, I' am compassionate." Kenny said and with a swift movement, he placed his left palm over her mouth and pointed his knife at her throat. "Actually, I'm doing you a favor by making your death as painless as possible."
Alana tried screaming through Kenny's huge hand, but all the sound that she made were just muffled.
"Ah, ah, ah! Don't blame me for this. Blame yourself from being too close to Rod. But, you just had to put a toe out of the line. You really can't live without rich men, can you?"
(F/N) really wanted to help her, but she remained rooted to the ground like a frightened child. She had no idea that Kenny would do something like this.
"Hmm! Hmm!" Alana went on screaming and crying and squirming, but Kenny was too strong for her. With one swift movement of Kenny's right arm, Alana was finally put to silence. Kenny let go of her body and it fell to the ground in a pool of blood. The man sighed, looked up at the sky and swished his knife, splattering bits of blood on the wall of the isolated alleyway.
(F/N) couldn't stop the tears from falling down her face. Her hands instantly covered her mouth to prevent herself from screaming, but she was too late.
"Princess, I know you're there!" Kenny announced with a theatrical flourish. "Come out, come out, wherever you are!"
(F/N) slowly emerged from her hiding place, still covering her mouth. She couldn't stop her legs from shaking, but she still faced the man she thought was the person who would never lie to her.
"Aww, why the shocked expression? I thought that I'm going to be a godfather!"
"Captain, why?" her voice came out like an anguished whimper.
"Not like that, Princess." Kenny went closer to (F/N), who started soing what Alana did earlier the moment she found his true intentions. "You shouldn't be here. Wait, what are you doing here, anyway? Wait, wait! Let me guess,... you're here to tell me something, aren't you?"
(F/N)'s eyes widened in utter fear. How did he know? Unless,...
No! Delilah and the children!
Her arms dropped to her side. Kenny laughed really hard and started doing a jig.
"I'm correct! Wahoo!" Kenny declared, swishing his knife about and splattering blood in all directions. "Now, I'll let you speak. Come on, tell me your business here. I don't want to ruin your moment."
"I came to tell you,..." tears came falling down her face. For right in front of her stood the biggest deceiver of all. "... that someone is going,... to kill you,..."
"Kill me? Did I hear that right? Hey, Traute, you hear that? Someone's going to kill me!"
(F/N) turned just in time to see a tall blonde woman emerging from the shadows and launching herself towards her. She had no chance to escape as the woman called Traute took out a cloth from her pocket and covered (F/N)'s face with it.
With strong chemicals overtaking her body, the last thing she saw,...
... was the forlorn expression on Kenny's face,...

Levi was in the living room that night, still moping, when he suddenly heard successive frantic knocks on his door. He didn't bother with his disguise and immediately stood to open the door, hoping it was (F/N). Heck, he was determined to still accept her even though she might be really mad at him right now.
He didn't expect to see Dawk's eldest daughter on the doorway together with Erwin Smith. The brat didn't even look surprised to see him without his disguise.
"You must help us, Captain." Rosemarie said. She even looked like she just escaped some wild dogs or something dangerous like that.
"What happened?" Levi's hair suddenly stood on end. He knew that something really bad has happened.
"It's (F/N)." Erwin provided the answer.
"What happened to (F/N)?!"
"He will kill her!" Rosemarie screamed in panic. "Kenny Ackerman will kill her!"

"I say Jacqueline, this is hopeless!" Elvis begged his fiancee to stop banging on the door of the Scouting Legion Headquarters in Trost that very same night. She was angrily waving about a piece of newspaper.
"No! They're the real thieves here." Jacqueline screamed at the face of her useless fiance, Elvis. "You must be helping me here, not whine!"
"But, dear! That's just a newspaper you're holding right there! How could you know that someone stole our identity through that?!"
"Because it says so on the headline! Elvis Shunerman and Jacqueline Baxter, this year's honorary nobles from Wall Rose, graced the Reiss Hall for the launching of the Winter Season. They were to take their place as the King's chosen elite nobles! That aint us! Those are the ones who stole the migration documents from you because of your stupidity! And they're taking everything we should be enjoying right now! Those people are Hange and Levi! The one you told me about!"
"I say! There's a method to this! Not banging on someone's door like a madman!"
The door suddenly opened and they were swiftly taken inside by some invisible hands and dragged them behind the nearest wall as if to hide them. Jacqueline was about to go on a tirade once more when a young, blonde male and taller teenager with a long face and two tones of hair color gestured for them to keep quiet.
"What are you - ?" Jacqueline was about to go at it again when Elvis gestured for her to look at her surroundings. The woman looked and she finally saw,...
... the number of bloody, lifeless bodies lying on the ground next to them.
"What in the holy Wall,..."
