Hi lulu, so i was wondering if have you played Far cry new dawn in French, does roger talk in another idiom?
In spanish he stills talk in french
Hi! Yes, I played New Dawn in French and Roger has the same Québécois accent he has in English. It even seems he’s played by the same actor, Vincent Leclerc, whose name appears among the other French voice talents in the credits.
As for some of the (Canadian) French words he uses, such as “osti”, “tabarnak”, or “caulisse”, they’re typical slang/swear words from Québec that we don’t use in France, so they kept them in the French version and they sound as funny and exotic as they do in English.
It’s rare that Far Cry characters who speak with a non-American accent end up also having an accent in the French version of the game, but Roger thankfully kept his!
#it’s a good question because yeah sometimes they have to use another language#like in the film 'ghost dog: the way of the samurai' the character played by isaach de bankolé speaks french but no one understands him#they had to change that in the french version so he speaks an african language called yoruba instead#the actor is fluent in it because from what I’ve read it’s his parents’ native language#many french characters in disney movies have an italian accent in france#and the ‘'mi casa' is french for 'front door'’ joke in big hero 6 became ‘'mi casa' means 'door' in german’ in the french version#also I’ve recently realized they switched to english much earlier in the original intro scene of inglourious basterds#in the french version it’s only when landa is lighting his pipe that he suggests they continue the conversation in english#then in the film all english-speaking characters talk in french but french people also still speak french haha#far cry new dawn#roger cadoret#I watched a bit of spanish roger and while he does use canadian french words it didn’t sound like he had an accent to me#I may be wrong though#I also watched a bit of roger in the other languages and here’s what I found#german: french accent and words#italian: no french word or accent#japanese: no french accent and probably no words (I’m not sure)#russian: no accent (I think) but french words

fa;lkfdjasdf of course! let me preface this by saying i am not a fluent french speaker (it took a year of it in middles school well over a decade ago - oddly enough to go on the class trip to quebec lol)
but. syb grew up speaking cajun/louisiana french, smack dab in the heart of new orleans and spent a lot of time growing up and then later hanging around french speaking working class folk in new orleans. her accent is lazy and drawling, she throws in english words whenever she forgets the french one, and she has zero enunciation. she also didn't study french much in school before dropping out so she didn't learn much metropolitan french. so her french is...uh...almost unintelligible to anyone outside of her little haunting grounds in new orleans
in contrast, roger's quebecois french is...idk...more standardized? and definitely more enunciated and louder than what syb is used to hearing, so when he talks to her, it's just a little jarring. she does get used to it, but i think roger does tease her for being cajun. tho it should be noted that by the time they meet, syb's tongue has been cut out. she can't actually speak with him, but she does understand him (mostly...sometimes he needs to repeat himself). but that video is kind of how i imagine him poking fun at syb (or as he knows her, the judge) for being an american french speaker lol

Hi! So I looked through the “script”, which you can read here (extracted and shared by @danaduchy), and I think I found the conversation you’re talking about!
Kim: Roger, thanks for lending us your eyes. Having your pilot’s perspective for recon really helps.
Roger: Pas trouble, anything for you, Kim. And if you ever need anything else, I am your man.
Kim: I think our grain stores are doing fine, but if you see any opportunities out there, you let us know.
Roger: [wistful sigh]Tabarnouche, I am trying to make the opportunities.
Speaking of Kim and Roger, I also found this thing he says:
My favorite person around here is Kim. I know she has a husband, so I keep my distance because I respect that. But man I’m jealous of that guy. Kim is so beautiful and powerful in her attitude you know? Ouais... Ouais...[sigh]
And this conversation with Nick:
Nick: Hey Roger, you wanna teach me some of that French of yours? I bet it’d really, you know, be a hit with Kim.

Do you see Syb being in FC New Dawn, if so what is she doing during that time. Also I would kill to see her interact with Roger Cadoret, I just think the combo of them in the same room would be hilarious.
what a delightful question to receive out of the blue! most of this under the cut because oof this got long lol whoops
but to answer your question: yes! I do have her in fc new dawn (or an au of it where boomer, jacob, and pratt all survive lol). like in canon, she ends up in dutch's bunker with joseph and boomer and jacob and staci end up in another one in the whitetails, unable to communicate with each other.
and. as you can imagine. with two deeply unwell and religiously inclined people stuck in a bunker for seven years together, they form a really weird religious co-dependent relationship. they lowkey make a new religion that's joseph's word with an even heavier serving of catholic guilt and syb is the only parishioner at that church. her identity slowly fades away/is stripped from her and she fully embraces the mantle of the Judge. (except her mask is a much cooler rabbit mask :'))
she's actually fairly happy (all things considered) after emerging from the bunker and reuniting with what remained of joseph's followers. the building of New Eden and providing for and protecting new life gives her a sense of purpose, of meaning that makes her finally feel like she's repenting for all the wongs she's done and blood she's spilled. i also like to think she's an influential figure among New Edener's distinct from joseph and that when joseph had left she was quietly made de-facto leader (at least for a brief amount of time)
i can't speak too articulately on how i'd tweak the fcnd canon for this au since i haven't actually finished the game. (was one of those i stopped playing about halfway through because of school but i never picked it up again oops). but no matter what, in the end im giving her peace, so she gets her cabin with jacob and boomer and any other stray dogs and they protect their people and they grow old she's suffered enough. she find peace and clarity <3
unfortunately syb does lose her tongue during the bunker years, so she can't have a verbal conversation with roger. BUT she does find the man incredibly entertaining. i have also thought about the two of them interacting many times. my favorite part about that scenario is that they speak two different regional dialects of french (syb's cajun while roger is (iirc) quebecois). so i think sometimes they have trouble understanding each other,
but i also like to think that roger mumbles something under his breath in french and The Judge (syb) snickers and roger is like "oh hello! you are my new best friend right now!" and the two actually do kinda end up being besties and are 100% talkin' shit

Who’s the first to wake up in the morning:
Roger is usually the first one up, rising with the sun to make sure La Grosse Patate is ready for any possible flights.
Who’s the one to make breakfast:
Neither. I believe someone else in Prosperity is responsible for preparing food.
Who’s the one to serve the other breakfast in bed:
Roger. Since he's up before her, he'll leave something for her to eat when she wakes up.
Who would suggest a quickie in the morning before work:
Angel. She's even suggested having some fun in La Grosse Patate before. Roger refuses to admit if he's ever taken her up on the idea.
Who suggests they both ditch work to lay around all day:
Both, they enjoy forgetting the outside world sometimes.
Who chooses the movies:
Neither, movie aren't really a thing anymore. They do love to tell each other stories, which are the next best thing.
Who initiates kissing during the moving, thus distracting the other from the movie all together:
Roger, he loves showering her in love.
Who orders lunch:
Neither, once again.
Who steals food from the other’s plate without asking:
Both, but more often Angel. She's also the more successful of the two.
Who curls up next to the other and falls asleep due to a full tummy:
Angel, again.
Who distracts the other from trying to work at home:
Angel. She's usually successful, too.
Who asks to go get ice cream like a five year old:
Neither, ice creams no longer a thing. But as the younger and more childish one of the two, it would be Angel if it was.
Who takes pictures of their partner eating ice cream:
Roger would.
Who makes a sexual joke about the dripping ice cream on their partner’s face:
Neither, but Angel would make a joke about her own dripping ice cream.
Who cooks dinner:
Neither.
Who cleans up the kitchen afterwards:
Neither, but Roger usually brings their finished plates to whoever is doing dish duty.

Both. They'll take turns reading books out loud to the other.
