for years i have been equating this drawing to “Chuck Jones Tom and Jerry”. every time i see it i always ALWAYS ALWAYS! think of Chuck Jones Tom and Jerry.
Tumblr media
and you may be saying to yourself, well, Eliza, you indolent galoot, perchance that’s because Chuck Jones directed and did layouts for the cartoon and so of course it’s going to look like the stuff he did a few years after the fact.
BUT! i arrive with stellar news. T&J is the golden age series i have most nostalgic attachment to since i can actually remember watching them as a kid. especially Chuck Jones’ shorts.
Tumblr media
and so! as i was watching this particular short this evening, seeing this frame hit me like a ton of bricks. somewhere along the line i saw this completely innocuous cartoon and this particular frame must have buried itself into the deep, cavernous recesses of my fragile little mind and allowed me to make such a connection a dozen years later.
and yes! it is a direct pull:

Robin Hood Daffy premiered Mar 8, 1958, and was directed by Chuck Jones. It was written by Michael Maltese. He was the storyboard artist and screenwriter of hundreds of Warner Brothers cartoons from The Haunted Mouse (1941) to Roadrunner-A-Go-Go (1965). Mike also voiced 10 characters including Bert the mouse (always seen with Hubie). Mike appears as a guard at the Warner Brothers studio gate in You Ought to be in Pictures (1940).

Here's my new Winnie the Pooh Casting Meme with Robin Hood characters and Sly Cooper.
I know some people have already made The Many Adventures of Robin Hood the Fox but I still wanted to have my own take on Robin Hood having Pooh's adventures.

the BEST looney tunes cartoons (in my humble opinion)
after spending weeks - possibly months - curating the list of the top looney tunes cartoons, i have decided to share it with the world. i organized them based on character, and chose the cartoons that i think specifically follow this basic criteria: 1. they portray the characters in a way that is comedic and true to past writing and established character traits 2. they are entertaining, funny, and have well-executed gags 3. they give the authentic looney tunes feeling and are good representations of looney tunes as a whole if you are introducing a friend to looney tunes, or want to get into it yourself, i suggest you start with these cartoons. they are my personal favorites and i think they capture what makes looney tunes great. before i get into the list, some things worth noting: - i did not include the characters elmer fudd, yosemite sam, tweety, marvin the martian, the tasmanian devil, or any smaller characters. this was because all of these characters are usually paired with more major or more entertaining characters that i made lists of instead. i don't think these characters are enough on their own to make a separate list about, and i don't think that learning about these characters is a necessity when starting looney tunes. - if a cartoon features multiple characters, i put it under the character i thought that it represented best. for example, in porky and daffy cartoons where daffy is silly and funny, i put them under daffy. but in porky and daffy cartoons where daffy is messing with porky, and porky's forced to become sinister, i put those under porky.
finally: the list. (also a shift from my strict no-caps policy)
Bugs Bunny A Wild Hare (1940) - first appearance Hot Cross Bunny (1948) Buccaneer Bunny (1948) Rabbit Fire (1951) Bugs and Thugs (1954)
Daffy Duck Porky's Duck Hunt (1937) - first appearance Porky and Daffy (1938) The Wise Quacking Duck (1943) Duck Soup to Nuts (1944) Daffy Doodles (1946)
Porky Pig I Haven't Got a Hat (1935) - first appearance The Pest That Came to Dinner (1948) Often an Orphan (1949) The Ducksters (1950) Fool Coverage (1952)
Sylvester Life With Feathers (1945) - first appearance Who's Kitten Who (1952) A Bird in a Guilty Cage (1952) Gift Wrapped (1952) The Last Hungry Cat (1961)
Wile E. Coyote/Roadrunner Fast and Furry-ous (1949) - first appearance Beep, Beep (1952) Stop! Look! And Hasten! (1954) Whoa, Be-Gone! (1958) Wild About Hurry (1959)
Foghorn Leghorn Walky Talky Hawky (1946) - first appearance The Foghorn Leghorn (1948) A Fractured Leghorn (1950) Little Boy Boo (1954) A Broken Leghorn (1959)
Honorable Mentions* The Henpecked Duck (1941) The Great Piggy Bank Robbery (1946) Operation: Rabbit (1952) Mouse Divided (1953) Devil May Hare (1954) Birds Anonymous (1957) Robin Hood Daffy (1958)
Best One-Offs Porky in Wackyland (1938)** Cross-Counry Detours (1940) The Haunted Mouse (1941) Russian Rhapsody (1944) Dough Ray Me-ow (1948) Feed The Kitty (1952)*** One Froggy Evening (1955)
*these are cartoons that i almost picked for top cartoons, but didn't quite make the cut. but these are definitely worth being mentioned because they are almost if not equally as great.
**i know this isn't a one-off because it has porky in it, but i don't consider this a great cartoon for porky because he's really bland in it. i love this cartoon because of the ridiculous characters and backgrounds. ***this also isn't a one-off because there are multiple shorts featuring marc anthony and pussyfoot, but they're very small characters so i consider it part of that category.

We’re in for a LARP...
Tumblr media
Pinkie Pie has invited all her friends to a LARPing session (Live Action Role Play for those not in the know). I’m going to guess that she loved her time with Discord and the others she wanted her friends to experience as well, just without the Chaotic Nature. Their goal, Rescue Prince Bulk Bicep from the Dragon Tower and whoever is the successful one wins a cake.
Tumblr media
Four of them take their roles seriously. Rainbow Dash, the Fighter known as Recker, uses her flying skills to race to the top. Sadly, while she was right about the stair traps, she failed to remember the fire traps (that’s more like a tomato gun). Twilight, the Mage known as Glitterlights, uses her magical spells to figure out which steps are the safe ones. Sadly, she failed an Agility Check and got hit by spikes (that were string).
Tumblr media
Applejack, the Ranger called Calamity, and who just dressed as herself because she’s basically a ranger already, uses the animals to help her climb a tree. Sadly, she isn’t high enough level for it and doesn’t make it to the top. Rarity, who is a Mage named Rarity, is the only spoilsport of the group since it shows she doesn’t really have interest in playing this game. Give her two months and she’ll be Roleplaying with the best of them (being Spike).
Tumblr media
As for Fluttershy, she’s really into this game. She’s a Rogue known as Shadowdance and was sneaking around while everyone was doing their actions. She was even narrating her own events in this LARP. She probably would have been successful but she did a critical failure and ended up like Daffy Duck when he was Robin Hood. And because of their actions, they got one hour before the tower is destroyed.
Tumblr media
Realizing the only way to beat it is to work together, the five manage to successfully rescue the Prince using all of their strengths. But the question remains: who will win the cake? The answer: Pinkie Pie because they took too long. Overall, a nice change of pace and an alternate look at a different kind of Role Play. Shame there’s no build up for Rarity to actually join in on the group as it ended with her suggesting she should be the Game Master next time.
Tumblr media
But I say it’s worth it to see Fluttershy really take the role of a Rogue.
