10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you? There are several books that are haunting me, the latest is called Thrown off the Ice. It started innocently as all the other hockey books, a hot age gap rookie falls for veteran story, the smut was hot etc - and then suddenly it turned serious. The veteran suffers from severe helath consequences of his concussions, and it never gets better. What I LOVED is that this guy wasn't perfect about it like it's so often written, he was angry because his life was fucked and it went only downwards from there, he lashed out at his partner, he hurt him emotionally, he was never a sunshine to begin with - and his partner (the sunshine one who would have all the options to live a very different life than one with a diclining, disabled partner) chose at every turn to stay with him even though it was clear where it will end. That was very powerful, and hit very close to home in some aspects. So yeah that haunts me currently and will stay. (ha sorry for the length, as you can see it haunts me).
For my own writing: I have one very long fic, The Absence of Hate, where I have this sequel planned out in my head, but I also know that I will not write it as I don't have it in me to write another 80-100 k... but the sequel would be so good 😂
11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
This is such a funny question right after the first, as I loved the MCD book but in general: no, I am usually not in the mood for it and want a happy ending for my characters. I wrote some MCD fics myself which are easier than to read MCD, as it is not often done in a way I like. The vast majority of my books end happy though, so no graveyard - but when someone dies (also a beloved side character for instance) I do grieve.
33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate? Not really, I like to create moodboards for my stories but I wouldn't consider them art.

Whats Over and Over? 👀
Over and Over is a yalex soulmate timeloop au fic! (Title taken from the three days grace song of the same name)
The basic premise (which I have seen only once and have been OBSESSED with ever since) is that the first time you see your soulmate, it starts a timeloop that only the two of you experience. The first day of the loop is the only "real" one and the rest is just the two of you like, getting to know each other.
Once you figure out who you're in the loop with (which can be somewhat difficult because like, you could literally have just seen them across a busy street), you basically get three years to fall in love. If you don't fall in love within that timeframe, you forget who your soulmate is and everything that happened in the loop, but do remember that it happened so you're not like, waiting your entire life for something that already occured. And if you die in the loop, you die in real life.
So, cue Alex and Yassen waking up after that meeting in Point Blanc only to realize that they're looping, resulting in VASTLY different reactions. Yassen is like "he's sixteen and made of hormones and being manipulated by MI6, just doen't lie to him and sleep with him until he falls in love with you, and then take him back to scopria's loving arms" and proceeds to set out to do just that.
Alex, meanwhile, is completely cut off from his support system and, you know, a fucked up grieving mess essentially trapped behind enemy lines. So he decides to be even more reckless than usual and like, gets himself into all kinds of trouble. And then, you know, when he finds out that yassen killed Ian has a complete breakdown about what that means
Eventually Yassen realizes he actually doesn't want Alex anywhere near any of this, and so he and Alex have to actively fight catching feelings with each other so that they have enough time to get dirt on scorpia and MI6 so they can both get out and retire once the loop is over.
This was my nano this year and has 50k+ and is still nowhere near done, given how complicated it is. But one day! I will finish!

Absolutely love the vibes of this fantasy AU, where Alex is left behind in the forest as an offering to the spirit of the forest (Yassen). Some wonderful descriptions here and some lovely angst.

A deliciously dark AU where Martin Wilby keeps Alex prisoner after Ian dies. The Yassen pov is great here, both so cold and detached and yet so captivated by Alex and yearning for something real. Really loved this one!

A really fun story where Yassen and Alex meet again on a mission and are both unimpressed by Yassen's latest employer. Yassen's pov gives the story a hilarious dry tone and I love the developing relationship dynamic between him and Alex. Really enjoyed this one!

Yassen takes care of keyed up Alex in a way only Yassen can. Hot & intense and yet there is so much undercurrent love and gentleness, perfect mix.

Not many fics explore how much Yassen was messed up by Alex. This one is basically my headcanon of Yassen being unable to continue on with his normal life after Eagle Strike. The plot is fun and the interactions between Yassen and Alex are a joy.

Devilverse AU, Alex trying to take some measure of control over his future by getting Yassen to take his virginity, from Yassen's perspective and his insistence on studying Alex's reactions purely as an asset and being emotionally/physically unaffected not being convincing at all.

24 year old Alex Rider being more of a menace than ever, even getting a chance to try his hand at a victorious villain monologue. Sharp, witty, really compelling look at Alex and Yassen ten years on, post-scorpia, still on opposite sides, but still loyal to each other, even when work tries to intervene.
The Stowaway by TheOtherBlue
An excellent canon divergence where Alex becomes stuck with Yassen on the Fer de Lance after boarding it in the Eagle Strike book. It starts out reading like canon, then gradually morphs into something much darker (and very hot). I love how sinister but in-character Yassen is here.
This feels VERY in character and believable to me. Yalex and Coster and how it's intertwined and all that
Alone together by Ireliss
This work about how past sexual trauma affects Yassen and Alex’s life together is beautiful, moving, quietly sad and hopeful. It’s incredibly well-written.
Falling for you in time and space by kelkblr
This is such a sweet romantic series. I love the concern Yassen has for Alex, and I love the way they become each other's family through their isolation. The setting is so well researched and feels so real too.
Coma White by hjbender
Yassen captures Alex in Japan. Dark, dreamlike and compelling.
Specific Performance by BurntWhisper
Yassen has been instructed to kill Alex but has to decide whether to see it through or not. They both choose to make the most of their potentially-limited time together. Extremely hot with a rough, dominant Yassen. The characterisation of both Alex and Yassen is on point.
The Right Touch by Strange_Soulmates
A Star Wars AU where ISB Lieutenant Yassen is trying to track down the rebel agent Alex, resulting in some very, very hot dream dubcon. Really great adaptation of canon character dynamics.
We Keep Meeting Each Other Like This by TheOtherBlue
Very hot, very well written, and I love the escalation that comes with each meeting.
Salt, Smoke and Water by Too_Many_Rooks
Gender flipped Yalex. So well written, very hot, and with that excellent dubcon/Yassen is kind of a bastard element.
A Friend Indeed by Too_Many_Rooks
The meetings between Yassen and Alex with the time jumps between them give a great impression of time passing and Alex getting older, and changing, Yassen borderline pining, but it's still a very neat and coherent story that grows into its ending. There's sex and angst and regret and murder and Alex being a little shit. It's perfect.
A Timely Rescue by TheOtherBlue
Just really hot and such a compelling meeting between Alex and Yassen. Time travel and dubcon is a great mix of tropes as well.

A little excerpt from my between seasons fic (dealing with Alex's dreams/hallucinations, grief, and trauma)
Yassen leans down to brush back Alex’s sweat soaked fringe, his other hand still resting on his thigh, and Alex can’t decide whether to lean in or pull away from the touch. His head lolls, heavy, in lieu of a decision, but Yassen simply slides his hand further back, grip tightening in his hair, and uses his hold to direct Alex’s line of sight back to him.
“You will tell me everything.”
“No.” Alex readies himself, reaches for the song lyrics that will keep his mind and tongue distracted from the questions, the pain, the answers he can’t, won’t, give.
“You will.”
Alex ignores the smile gracing the face of the man above him, inhales, opens his mouth.
The hand, hot, like a brand on his skin, slides-
Alex’s eyes snap open to the sound of a car alarm blaring from down the street. There’s a moment of panic when, caught in his twisted sheets, he can’t move, can’t lift his arms. It’s disorientating in the dark, so abruptly woken from sleep, and even when he manages to kick the sheets and the blankets off, his mind struggles to catch up.

Number 3 for the ask game, specifically shipping different versions of Yassen and Alex together in interesting ways....
Unusual combination time!
So, I mean, like, any permutation? I know that's kind of a cop out, so let me get a little more specific.
So, I very much ship like, "just became a baby assassin" yassen and alex, since they're in the exact same place emotionally but still could be weirdly fucked up about each other
Also, I've been thinking about a verse where Book Yassen and Book Alex manage to find there way into Tv verse, and so like, silver fox young fifties yassen having his way with tv alex has been kind of like, nibbling away at my brain for that I'm trying to beat it back (also, you know, throw in some book Alex for fun sometimes, since he is that kind of freak, I think).
Also, starting to be talked into yasha (or baby assassin yassen)/alex/yassen (the 30s version).
Sorry that wasn't more exciting, but I haven't giving the permutations as much thought as I no doubt will in the future
