a/n: i wrote this so quick lol, i hope it's okay? i went for gender neutral reader as you didn't specify what you'd like, i hope it still works. oh also, i'm sorry about the ending, i know i strayed away from the topic a little, but maybe this is fine??

even before you and riff were dating, the jets (especially riff) were super protective of you
and once you two start going steady, they only get MORE protective
riff used to make sure a jet would walk you home if he couldn’t make it
but after you two start dating, it’s always him there, 9 times out of 10
riff tried his hardest to keep you out of the sharks vs. jets rivalry, he couldn’t stand the thought of something happening to you
and this idiot thought the best way to go about this was to not tell you ANYTHING at all
you had a series of long fights about him disappearing on you randomly, or blowing you off, leaving you to wonder about which ditch he was lying dead in
you lose track of the amount of times you have to show up to val’s, interrogating poor tony about the whereabouts of his best friend
(tony always gives in, you’re fucking scary when you want to be)
the two of you eventually sort things out, staying up all night talking and making up
riff promises to talk to you more, though he knows you’d prefer it if he wasn’t a part of this feud at all
but hey, at least it’s progress
riff always takes you as his date to the dances, no question
and if you don’t know how to dance, he will take the time to teach you properly
low-key, you took longer than necessary to learn
the lessons were so much fun, and the time together made both of you genuinely happy
riff definitely wasn’t complaining about being able to put his hands on you ;)
one of his favourite things to do is watch you get ready
not in a creepy way, though he can’t argue that watching you change your shirt is sometimes the highlight of his day (he can’t help it)
but your meticulous routine is something just so calming to him, it’s a nice change of pace
he swears that he falls deeper in love every time your eyes meet in the mirror, and you give him that sheepish smile
another thing riff loves is playing with your hair
when you’re exhausted, he’ll gently drag you down to lie in his lap, fingers already threading through your locks
you’re asleep in seconds
you and riff don’t go on too many dates, maybe one every fortnight
but that’s okay, because riff comes around your place almost everyday
and if he can’t, he’ll ensure that he at least drops by during one of your breaks at work
even those fifteen minutes of talking are precious to both of you
the two of you love meddling with tony’s love life and pissing him off
you’re always organising double dates to go on
which, to be fair, does not end well for tony, so it’s a little counter-productive
the girl usually gets pissed that he doesn’t pay her the same attention that riff does you
which leaves tony a little baffled
how is he supposed to replicate your relationship with riff? how is anyone?
secretly, tony’s rooting for you guys to get married. so much so that he’s already started his best man’s speech.
he can’t wait for the day he gets to say the words out loud.

Death Wish
“happy rumble day, Y/N,” riff said excitedly as he came out of Y/N’s small bedroom and into the kitchen where Y/N was preparing breakfast in the middle of the afternoon.
“you know i’m not a fan of this, riff.”
she kept her back to him, and he came up behind her and wrapped his arms around the tops of her shoulders.
Y/N was the complete opposite of riff. she wasn’t even sure how she fell in love with him in the first place. they had opposing views, as she was constantly promoting peace between the two gangs in the city. but, they did have something in common. Y/N was outspoken, and brave, and stood up for herself. she was a good girl who liked bad guys, because bad guys brought out a fiery personality in her. and riff fit that definition perfectly.
riff squeezed Y/N’s body a little tighter. “come on girly, you know me. i’m going to be safe. those sharks can’t lay a finger on me,” he said quietly, kissing the back of her head before stepping away.
“i know you, you can hold your own. that’s not what i’m against. i don’t like the idea of this rumble in general,” she stated.
riff’s calm demeanor was growing into an impatient one. “it’s necessary. this is our turf, and no one gets to come into this city and steal what we worked so hard to build.”
Y/N noticed a complete switch in his tone. he went from being sweet to being sharp all in a matter of seconds. she turned around to find riff’s cold eyes fixated on her own.
she walked closer to him, and he looked down at her. “the sharks can’t steal land that was already previously stolen.”
riff frowned, his accent getting thicker with every word. “we were here first.”
“were you?” Y/N replied sassily.
riff’s playful side smile came back once more. “why are we arguing? i love you, and you love me, and you’re making me breakfast,” he said, wrapping his arms around her waist. Y/N couldn’t help but fall into his trance. “we can agree to disagree.”
she rolled her eyes. “fine. that’s not going to stop me from trying to prevent this though.”
“i know it won’t.”
Y/N went back to her spot at the stove and continued to cook the meal. she finished it up, and split it into two for both her and riff. they sat down together at the small table, awkward silence thick between them.
“what time do you have to go tonight?” she asked, breaking the silence.
“it starts at midnight in the salt shed,” he replied.
“are you worried?” Y/N questioned quietly.
riff shook his head. “no. the sharks can’t do anything to me and my boys. we have the upper hand.”
she knew it was better to stay quiet than fight riff again, so she silently nodded her head and continued to eat. eventually, they finished eating and they cleaned up their messes.
“i’m going to go out, gotta see my boys before the big night,” riff said, smiling to himself. he stepped closer to her. “i’ll see you tonight, right?”
Y/N nodded. “yeah, i’ll meet you before you go to the shed,” she said back, her voice almost monotone.
riff rested his hands on her hips. “good,” he replied before placing a loving kiss on her lips. “see you later.”
he excitedly ran out the door, and Y/N watched as her one love walked out of her apartment to go make the most stupid decision he’s made yet. which, considering the amount of dumb decisions he’s made, truly says something.
she didn’t have the greatest feeling about tonight. maybe that was just because she was prone to excessive worrying. regardless, something didn’t feel right about what riff was doing. she tried her hardest to ignore the gut feeling that was making it’s presence known.
Y/N tried to keep herself occupied for the rest of the afternoon. her anxious thoughts kept her from going anywhere, so she decided to release her crowded thoughts into deep cleaning the entire apartment. it was long overdue, and she figured keeping busy would help calm her racing mind. by the time she had completed her task, it was nearing six o’clock. she decided to go out and meet riff at his jets group spot in the city.
she took a walk in the cool summer air as the sun began to fall behind the skyline. she arrived at the spot, and her quiet footsteps alerted baby john.
“riff, you’ve got a visitor,” he stated, causing the rest of the jets to flick their eyes to whoever it may be.
riff rounded a corner, and Y/N took notice of his appearance. he looked like he was ready for war in his vest covering his cream colored shirt, and his icy eyes widened when he saw her. she wondered why riff was so surprised, until she glanced down and saw a gun in his hand. he quickly slid his hand behind his back to hide it.
“Y/N, what are you doing here?” he asked almost frantically, stepping closer to her. every few steps he made, she would take a step back.
“riff, why the hell do you have a gun?” she asked, her voice cracking. “what do you think you’re going to do with it?”
“it’s just a precaution, darling,” he reassured, trying to calm her down. she shook her head. “the sharks are bringing heat, so i gotta bring heat.”
“oh yeah? and what happens if you get hurt? you and your boys are going to shoot them? what if they take your gun and shoot you?”
“that’s not going to happen, Y/N, i know what i’m doing,” riff said back, dropping the gun and finally approaching Y/N. he held her shoulders tightly.
“please riff, don’t do this,” she said in response, her eyes brimming with tears.
riff sighed. he considered it, but eventually removed his hands. “i’m going to bring it, but i won’t use it. okay?”
Y/N wasn’t happy with that either, but she nodded nonetheless. she felt a little bit better knowing riff wouldn’t be using it.
riff kissed her forehead. “the boys and i are goin’ out soon. i’ll see you when the rumble is over, yeah?”
“yeah. i love you,” she said quietly, resting her head on riff’s chest. his calm heartbeat immediately relaxed her. he wrapped his arms around her shoulders.
“i love you too, girly. it’ll be over before we know it.”
Y/N left, not sure what to do with herself in the meantime. she decided that since she wanted to be awake when riff came home, she would take a short nap back at her apartment. she walked home without a sound, and immediately went to her bedroom and went to sleep.
before she knew it, her body shot up out of bed and she checked the clock on the wall, which read 11:30. she paced around the room a little bit, and came to the conclusion that she couldn’t wait at the apartment for riff to come home; she had to see him.
Y/N threw on a sweater and hurriedly walked out the door, running down the streets to the salt shed. she kept a close eye on her watch, knowing that the rumble would start at midnight.
as she approached the shed, she heard the familiar sounds of footsteps down the pavement, and she spun around a building to hide from the jets. she held her breath as she watched the boys prepare for war and wait outside the shed. riff didn’t look like the sweet boy she knew and loved, he seemed almost animalistic.
then, right as her watch showed her that it was midnight, the boys walked in, and she knew the sharks had arrived. Y/N made her way closer to the shed when she knew the coast was clear, but on her way, a figure ran past her vision.
she tilted her head, and ran closer. that’s when she saw anybodys trying to get into the shed.
“anybodys!” she whisper yelled, catching their attention.
“Y/N, what are you doin’ here?” anybodys asked, catching the closing shed door.
Y/N ran up to the door. “i’m here for riff.”
Y/N always liked anybodys. she knew riff and the rest of the jets wouldn’t let anybodys in the gang, and quite frankly, they treated him like garbage. if Y/N caught this behavior, she would try her best to put a stop to it. anybodys was a great friend to her.
“it ain’t safe for you here!” anybodys whisper yelled back.
“i gotta be here, i wouldn’t be able to live with myself if i wasn’t.”
anybodys finally gave in, and together they slid under the door and gently closed it, hiding together behind a pile of salt. not long later, the door began to make noises from the outside, as if someone was trying to get in.
Y/N and anybodys sunk further down, until tony and chino slid their way under the door as well. she knew tony didn’t want the rumble to happen just as much as she did.
her eyes then stayed fixated on riff. Y/N could see from a mile away the reckless abandonment that was ever present in riff’s demeanor. he was prepared for anything.
“why are they talking so much?” Y/N asked to herself quietly. then, she watched as riff slid tony his gun. at least he was keeping his word.
they all talked more and more, and tony shared some words with bernardo. she couldn’t make out what was being said.
then, bernardo sent a punch to tony. Y/N gasped, and covered her mouth. tony didn’t fight back. bernardo flung his fists repeatedly at tony as the sharks and jets simultaneously yelled.
tony quietly said something to bernardo, and a full out brawl started between the boys.
“i can’t watch,” Y/N whispered, not being able to pry her eyes off the sight in front of her.
tony pinned bernardo and sent punches as the boys roared. then, as bernardo was nearing a blackout, he stopped. Y/N knew tony didn’t want to fight. he stood up and saw the outcome of what he was doing.
Y/N looked away for a split second, and when she turned around, bernardo and riff had knives in their hands and were eyeing each other.
“oh dear god,” she whispered. her face went pale as she watched riff.
she could tell riff didn’t want to do this anymore. there was fear in his eyes that wasn’t there before. bernardo and riff were afraid of each other.
they swung around the knives like it was choreographed. tony caught riff, leaving his back open for attack from bernardo. Y/N felt like yelling to tony to let him go. riff struggled to get out of his grasp.
then, he freed himself and turned around right into bernardo’s knife, which impaled him in his upper leg.
Y/N screamed. she didn’t care if she was caught at this point. she heard anybodys exclaim her name, but her world went silent. she came out behind the salt pile when she saw riff fall to the ground. tony took the knife and in return stabbed bernardo.
Y/N gasped again and took a step back. the room froze, confused as to what had happened. in a matter of seconds, two rival gang leaders lay injured on the ground, one being sprawled out dead.
Y/N ran into the action, and her footsteps alerted the group. their shock didn’t last long, for red and blue lights began to shine in through the windows.
the boys scattered, and tony backed away slowly, realizing what he had done.
“Y/N! tony! we have to go, now!” anybodys yelled trying to stop Y/N.
she ran to riff’s side and bent down next to him. he was still alive, but losing a lot of blood.
“Y/N… w-why are you here?” riff asked quietly.
“don’t talk about me, i’m here to help you, okay? we’re going to get you out of here.” she rested her hand on his cheek, and riff gently held her wrist.
“i can’t walk. you can’t get me out of here yourself. besides…” he took a deep breath in. “you’ve got company coming. you need to go now, Y/N.”
she began to cry. “i’m not leaving you riff,” she looked up to see anybodys ushering tony out.
“anybodys, tony! help me get riff out of here!”
tony left, and anybodys hesitated before running to riff’s side to help Y/N.
“Y/N, don’t do this. you’ll be caught,” he said again.
“you’re an idiot if you think i’m going to leave you here to die,” she fired back. she took off her socks and quickly tied them into a makeshift tourniquet to wrap around his leg. the pair stood him up on his good leg and he wrapped his arms around Y/N and anybodys’ shoulders, and together they hobbled out of the shed just in the nick of time.
anybodys and Y/N guided him into an alley not far from the shed, but far enough to stay out of the eyes of the police. they laid him down against the wall as he faded in and out of consciousness. “stay with me riff, please!” Y/N said as anybodys sent her a look. “thank you anybodys, i owe you one. i can take it from here,” she said hurriedly. anybodys nodded before running off to find tony.
“i’m going to fix you up, okay?” she told him frantically. luckily, she brought her purse which contained gauze, alcohol, and tape.
“y-you’re not a nurse,” riff said quietly.
“i know i’m not, but i’m not going to leave you alone to die. i can’t.”
she used the tourniquet around his leg to dab up the blood after untying it, and then she took the alcohol out of her purse and poured it over the wound. riff grimaced and squeezed Y/N’s arm tight.
she finished it off by wrapping it in gauze tightly and taping it down. “this won’t last you long, you need stitches.”
“we gotta wait until the heat dies down, Y/N. they’ll know this is from the rumble,” he pleaded.
“riff, we can’t wait any longer. that gauze can only hold you off for so long. i know the people that work the emergency room, they know i don’t get involved with the rumbles. it wouldn’t make sense for me to even be at the rumble. trust me, i know what i’m doing. they won’t know a thing.”
riff rolled his eyes, complying with the plan. Y/N helped him stand, and they hobbled a few blocks away to the nearest emergency room.
they walked in, and immediately the nurses took action. they took riff back and got to work on fixing his wound. Y/N knew them, for her mom actually used to work with these ladies in the same emergency room.
“how did this happen?” one of them asked, writing on a clipboard. riff looked to Y/N for an answer.
“um…he was getting ready for the big rumble tonight. when him and one of his gang members were practicing, he accidentally jabbed him in the leg before the rumble even began,” Y/N said, hoping the excuse was good enough. “riff just now decided to tell me.”
“he wasn’t at the rumble?” the nurse asked. Y/N shook her head.
“looks like your buddy got you pretty deep there. Y/N did everything right though to take care of you,” one said to riff, peeling away the soaked gauze to unveil the wound.
“we’re going to go get the equipment we need to fix him up,” another said before all of them piled out of the room.
“i don’t want to get stitches,” riff said as Y/N pulled over a seat next to him.
“you would have died, riff. it’s kind of a miracle you’re still here. the stitches are going to save your life.”
“what if i didn’t want to be saved?” riff said loudly, causing Y/N to be taken aback.
“what?” she questioned.
riff avoided eye contact. “why do you think i wanted you to leave me there? my death wish was obvious to everyone but you, Y/N. i kept it from you because of this exact reason. i always knew the outcome of today, i was supposed to die.”
tears formed in Y/N’s eyes. “riff, i-”
“what do i have to live for? tony’s no longer a jet, i’m losin’ my territory, you deserve better than me, so what do i have?”
Y/N took riff’s hand. “you have me. i don’t need anything better.”
riff finally made eye contact with her. he squeezed her hand back, and tears formed in his eyes as well. “you’ve been there for me more than anyone else, and here i am treatin’ you like shit.”
“i don’t care, riff. i’ll always love you regardless of anything. i love you more than you’ll ever know. i couldn’t bear to lose you today.”
riff smiled and rested his hand on Y/N’s cheek. “i don’t deserve you.”
the nurses came back in and gave him pain medications while also numbing the area around and in his wound to prepare to stitch it up.
“i’m scared, Y/N,” he said quietly. she went to the free side of the bed and took his hand.
the nurses quickly stitched him up, and riff pressed his eyes closed the entire time. he held on to Y/N’s hand tightly.
“all done!” the nurse said, stepping away from the bed. “we’ll keep you here for a while longer to monitor you and make sure everything is okay, but you should be able to leave later tonight.”
they thanked the nurses and Y/N and riff were left alone again.
“thank you for not giving up on me,” riff said, admiration in his eyes.
“i would never.”

When We're Alone
A/N: 18+ Smut based on request
"Riff smut plz!!! (Maybe the reader being one of the Jets little sister)"
Masterlist
I arrived at my building and immediately recognized the sound of The Jets. As I climbed the stairs to my apartment, their hollering became louder and I groaned in frustration. Diesel told me he was working at the auto shop late tonight, why are they here? I open the door, slowly looking around, my eyes land on a small group of rowdy boys standing around my kitchen table. When I walk closer, silence fills the room as they turn to stare at me.
“What are you doing here?” I ask pointedly, looking from one to the other before looking at Riff, their leader. He’s sitting at the table, casually with his legs propped on the chair next to him and a tooth pick in his mouth.
“We’re waitin’ on yer brother, girly,” He leans back further into the chair.
“Well, you’ll be waitin’ a while,” I say walking past them to the fridge, pulling out a jug of lemonade and pouring myself a glass. “He’s workin’ late,” I turn back to face the group, “There’s really no point in you all hangin’ round.” I mumbled the last part, hoping not to anger them.
Mouthpiece lets out a loud groan, “Yer kiddin.” He turns his attention to Riff, “Can we go now?” he sounded like a whining child.
“Yeah,” A-Rab shouted, “She said he’ll be late.” The boys started to get worked up again, all shouting over each other. I attempted to get them to quiet down, but of course, they ignored me. Until Riff stood up, silencing them all.
“Alright,” he spoke slowly, taking the toothpick out of his mouth. I watched as he locked eyes with Ice briefly before giving a nod. “Roll out, boys.”
I watched as they began to file out the door, running down the stairs, the yells starting to become distant. All of them, except Riff. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw he had returned to his earlier position at the table. A lump grew in my throat, as I felt his stare.
“Mind if I wait here?” His voice was much softer than when I had heard him speak earlier. Not knowing what to say, I nodded back quickly returning to my lemonade. “Sorry about them,” he gestured towards the door.
“It’s fine,” I sigh out, “I’m kind of used to it by now.” I rolled my eyes and he smiled back. He had a beautiful smile that lit up his face, he looked like he wouldn’t hurt a fly when he smiled but I know better than that. I realised I was staring and quickly shook myself out of the trance. I watched his smile turn into his signature smirk, as he stood up from the table slowly.
“When did Diesel say he’d be home?”
“He didn’t,” I croaked out. My eyes went big at the sound of my voice, I had really hoped I wouldn’t sound nervous. I coughed, pretending to clear my throat. “Just that it’ll be late.” I stood up a little straighter, trying to recover from my little hiccup.
“I see,” Riff slowly began to walk towards me. “So it’s just you and me tonight,” he spoke lowly and I felt his hand lightly brush against my waist before resting on my hip. “Hows about we have a little fun?” He looked down at me, mischief reflecting in his eyes and I watched as he lowered his gaze on my body.
I was used to this side of Riff, whenever we were alone he couldn’t keep his hands off me. Not that I mind at all, he’s gorgeous. We always had to be careful though, Diesel would kill me if he knew I was foolin’ around with one of the Jets, not to mention the leader. I looked Riff up and down, returning his smirk before turning away and walking towards my bedroom. He quickly followed me, closing the bedroom door behind himself.
“I don’t know how long we have,” I said while slowly unbuttoning the shirt I had on. He nods at my words, but he’s too distracted by my body.
“Better get started then girly girl,” he replies smugly. I take off my top, revealing a red bra and Riff groans to himself before closing the space between us. “You sure you weren’t expectin’ someone? You’re lookin’ real sexy.”
“This is nothin’,” I say gesturing to my bra, doing my best not to blush. “Besides The Jets always come on Fridays and yo-,” I realize what I said and freeze, stopping mid-sentence.
“Oh really?” Riff wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me in even closer. He clearly caught what I said. “You mean to say, you get all dolled up for me?” His lips were on my neck in seconds, kissing and sucking lightly. I moaned quietly at the contact and I felt him smirk against my neck. “Jump,” he mumbled, as he moved his hands to my thighs. I did as he said and he caught me, wrapping my legs around his torso.
His lips now crashed onto my own in a wave of passion. I felt him walking me over to the bed before dropping me on it. His eyes, now dark and filled with lust, racked over my body. I felt his hands grip my skirt and rip it off in a matter of seconds, my panties were gone next. I propped myself up so I could see him better, his muscles glistened from sweat with each movement. I smirked to myself as I watched him frantically remove his clothes. His hands returned to my body, slowly making their way up my legs, I knew Riff was doing it on purpose.
“Riff,” I moaned, “stop teasing.”
“Where’s the fun in that?” He asked, in a playful manner. I watched as he slowly lowered his face to my pussy, maintaining eye contact with me.
I gasped as I felt his mouth leave kisses around my folds. His tongue moved expertly on my clit, rubbing small circles and earning a moan from me. A shiver ran through my body, feeling him suddenly blow onto the sensitive area. My hands grabbed his hair and he let out a grunt, burrowing his face into my pussy deeper. My legs began to shake as I got closer to my climax, I couldn’t help but moan out in pleasure.
“I’m so close, Riff,” I moan out and I feel him stop abruptly, pulling himself up to a standing position. I sat up, watching his every movement, mesmerized by his beauty.
“Not yet,” he said sternly, yanking off his boxers. His cock was already hard and looking at it made my mouth water. I instinctively licked my lips, looking up at him, waiting for approval. His smirk reappeared, “ya wanna suck me doll?” I nodded back in response. “How about ya suck me and then I pound that pretty little pussy?”
“Yes please,” I moan back in response. I grab his member by the base and slowly insert him into my mouth. He lets out a quiet moan as I take in his length, putting his hands in my hair. I feel him start to push my head further into his cock, making me gag slightly, the feeling making me wet. I let out a moan on his dick and I feel his grip on me tighten.
“Just like that,” He moaned, “be a little slut for me.” I moaned again at his words and hollowed out my mouth, starting to deep throat him faster. I moved my hand to his balls, massaging him lightly, earning another moan from Riff.
“That’s enough,” he practically growled and pulled me off of him, pushing me back onto the bed. He lined his cock up with my opening, thrusting deep into my pussy. I moaned as he quickened his pace, digging my nails into his back. My moans turned into screams moments later and I did my best to match his movements.
I could feel my orgasm nearing, and I threw my head back in pleasure, Riff’s name spilling from my mouth. I wrapped my legs around him tighter, pulling him impossibly closer to me. He leaned in, connecting our lips again sloppily. I bucked my hips into him, and he moaned into my mouth before lightly biting my lip. I came hard on his cock, a small scream of pleasure escaping my mouth. Quickening his pace, Riff quickly filled me with his cum before pulling out.
We stayed in bed for a moment before the sound of the door made us both jolt up. I started to fix myself, making it look like I was sleeping. Riff scrambled to his feet, putting his clothes on in record time before heading over to the window. He looked at me then back and the window, pausing briefly. Within seconds he was right in front of me, placing one last kiss hungrily on my lips and then dashing right back over. He sent me one last glance, giving me a wink then slipped down the fire escape.

“Valentina, are you sure about this? I can always stay later, you know that I-”
Valentina waved Y/n’s offer off with a wave of her hand, “Ay, mi querida, do not worry. You know how those...boys...can get...I do not want you to be walking home alone so late.” She shivered at the thought of the two fighting gangs, before going back to organizing the glass box the cash register sat on. Y/n’s face scrunched up in worry before she walked up to Valentina, helping her organize.
“Valentina, let me help, por favor.” Y/n had been trying to work on her Spanish slowly, so she began integrating bits and pieces into her vocabulary slowly. She wanted to make things easier for Valentina for being so kind to her. “It’s the least I can do.” Y/n affirmed softly, causing the older woman to smile and playfully smack Y/n’s shoulder. “You are too much like your-”
The door of Doc’s slammed open so hard that Valentina could’ve sworn the window broke. Both employees rushed forward towards the door, but the older one stopped before rolling her eyes.
“I told you, I do not want you in my store!” She said, a scowl resting on her face. For someone as kind and loving as her, any sort of displeasure on her was nerve inducing. Her eyes landed on the tall boy standing in the doorway. “C’mon, you know me. I’m not going to-”
“You’ve been stealing from me since you were six. Now get out,” Valentina deadpanned. Riff completely ignored her, his eyes and attention finding her, “Hi there, gorgeous.” He flashed a smile at Y/n, “Don’t you usually get off earlier than this?” He questioned before walking a bit closer to her. As enticing as Riff was, she knew he had an ulterior motive.
“What’re you hiding from now, Riff? Or who?” It was Y/n’s turn now to walk closer to him, causing him to scoff then swallow before looking at the girl nervously. “No one. A Jet don’t hide. Guys hide from me, it ain’t the other way around.” He spoke lowly before starting to walk towards the Milky Ways.
“Wanna cover me, girly girl?” He asked holding up a Milky Way and shaking it a bit, his typical smirk back on his face as if anything he just said never left his mouth. Rolling her eyes, she opened her mouth to say something before an idea came to mind. It was time for Y/n to wear her own smirk to challenge Riff’s. “Hmm, only if you tell me why you’re really in here.”
Clearly, Riff didn’t expect that. His eyes widened and Y/n had to fight very hard not to laugh. Riff didn’t expect Y/n to tease back, pleasantly surprising him. Riff swallowed his nerves and cleared his throat, looking at the candy bar in his hand. “Can we talk somewhere else?”
Y/n was taken by surprise by Riff’s request. Skeptically, she glanced between her boss and the tall Jet, “Ir. Estar a salvo.” The older woman spoke, before smiling at Y/n and repeating herself in English, “Go, be safe.” At that, Y/n smiled nervously and nodded before grabbing her bag and leading Riff to the door. The two walked together before Y/n ran back to the cash register, placing a coin into the drawer before walking back over to Riff who was holding the door open for her.
“Y’know, girly girl... I didn’t expect you to actually cover me.” Riff teased before shutting the door behind them, chuckling at her.
Valentina held her hands in front of her mouth, watching Y/n and Riff walk off together. Her nerves were frayed enough, but watching her surrogate child walk into the arms of a gang leader frightened her. She trusted Y/n, not Riff.
****
“Girly girl? And, yes, Riff, I had to cover you. Valentina is too sweet of a woman for you to keep stealing from her.” You reprimanded, causing Riff so smile. Has he always been this smiley? You shook the thought from your head and looked at your surroundings, “You’re not gonna try anything with me, are you?” She raised a brow, causing Riff to laugh. “Relax. I just didn’t want the old woman to hear me say what I wanna say. But, we’re here.” Riff kept walking to the edge of the park, to the river. He sat down at the edge and held a hand for you. You took his hand and sat next to him, looking out at the river.
“So...Are you going to tell me what you wanted to say?” You queried, a teasing tone evident in your voice. Riff was staring out at the river as if you never said anything at all. You leaned forward and waved a hand in front his face, causing him to snap out of it. “Hm?” he hummed quietly, finally looking over at you. “What did you-”
You had never noticed the slight heterochromia in his eyes until now and you were at a loss for words. Riff was a magnet and you were being pulled in, fast. Riff swallowed, his eyes staring deeply into yours. “I wanted to tell you,” Your lips were almost touching at this point, but he finally finished his thought when your lips brushed, “I love you.”
Then your lips touched, and your heart soared. For the entire time you’ve known Riff, you had longed to hear those words. You kissed him deeply and leaned into him, a hand coming up to hold your cheek. Riff pulled you closer with his other hand, resting it on your waist. You were ecstatic, for so long you had acted like you hated Riff, and now you could actually show how you truly felt about him.
Before you got too carried away though, a sudden loud whistle caused you to jump, “Ah, look at this. The Jet boy is taking our precious Y/n.” A voice said, causing your head to flick to it. “Anxious...?” You asked softly, looking at one of the Sharks, swallowing your nerves. You stood quickly, feeling Riff stand, a protective hand on your hip. You pushed the butterflies from your stomach out of your body and paid close attention to Anxious. You had no idea if he was alone.
As comforting as you found Riff’s hand placement, clearly this angered Anxious. He stepped closer to the two of you, grabbing you by your dress. “Hands off her, asshole.” Riff said, shoving him off you. Anxious stumbled back a bit, before going head to head with Riff. He grabbed Riff and wound up for a punch. You ran to him and pulled on his arm, “It’s okay, Anxious, you don’t have to-”
Too caught up in his own anger, he jerked his arm away and shoved you away, causing you to fly to the ground. With a whine of pain, both men’s heads snapped to you. You looked down at yourself and noticed your arm was scraped and bleeding, it dripping onto the bodice of your dress. You frowned as it was now ruined, as blood was next to impossible to remove from fabric.
Your eyes flicked up to Riff and you had sworn you’d never seen him so angry. You were happy that it wasn’t directed at you, but you were nervous that Anxious would get beat to a pulp. Riff swung a punch directly into Anxious’s nose, causing you to flinch. “Now look at what you did!” He said, venom lacing his words. Anxious held his nose as Riff gripped his shirt and prepared to throw Anxious to the ground.
“Riff!” You called out, standing up. Riff looked at you with sadness in his eyes and the anger in him returned at seeing the bloodstains on your dress. The dangerous fire of anger burned brightly as his eyes locked back onto Anxious.
“Riff, no! Stop. Don’t--” You took a second to pry his hands off of the other man, “Let him go.” You kissed his temple softly and Riff tsked, “But he-” Riff tried, but you held a finger up to his lips, “Let him go.” You repeated to him. Riff sighed softly and shoved Anxious away. “I see you again, you’re fuckin’ dead. Got it?”
Anxious spit out blood before turning around and glaring at Riff before turning t look at you. “I-”
“Anxious, please leave while I’m still entertaining the idea of not telling Bernardo about this whole thing.” You said flatly, a brow raised and a hand waving him off. At your words, Anxious turned around and took off running.
As soon as Anxious turned around, Riff was on you in a second, examining your injuries closely. “I’m sorry princess, I shoulda killed him before he had the chance to-” You shook your head very quickly, “Violence is not the answer to everything, darling.” A light blush fanned over Riff’s face at the use of the pet name. He placed a kiss onto your forehead before nodding. “I’ll work on that, just for you.” He smiled, causing you to smile too. He leaned in to kiss you, holding your face in his hand,
“Ow.” Your sudden word of pain caused Riff to almost fly back. He had temporarily forgotten your injuries and he tsked once again. “C’mon...” Riff spoke, leading you away from the river by your uninjured arm.
Riff led you back to his home, showing you a plethora of first aid and tattered cloths you could only assume were used to wrap wounds and other injuries. “Woah...” You let out quietly, causing the boy to laugh softly. “Yeah, gang fights’ll do that to ya...” He trailed off before sitting you down next to his first aid station. “ ‘M sorry for the mess.” He mumbled before starting to get to work on cleaning you up. He looked around his room before handing you one of his spare shirts. “Do you want to change into this?” Riff asked, starting to stand. “I wouldn’t look, don’t worry.” He put his hands up as he backed up and inched closer to the door before smirking, “Unless you want me to.” he winked, causing you to blush dark.
You took a second to think before reaching your hand forward to him, flicking your fingers to and from yourself. “Give it to me.” Riff did as you asked and turned around and leaned on the door frame, his eyes on the wall. You removed the dress and slid Riff’s shirt over your head, it draping over your underdress. “Ya decent?” He asked. You nodded, forgetting he couldn’t see you. “Yes.” You said shortly before he turned around and smiled at you.
Riff walked back over to you and his smile only grew as he crouched again with you near his first aid, “You look good in my shirt. Maybe I’ll let you keep it.” You laughed softly, your heart swelling just a bit. Your laugh caused Riff to begin laughing too. Eventually though, your laughter died down and Riff began to frown, “Doll face, you know this is gonna hurt right?” You nodded and held your arm out to him, “It’s okay. I trust you.” You reassured Riff, smiling at him. “Gotta trust my boyfriend, don’t I?”
Riff’s breath caught in his throat and he sputtered. His usual calm and collected personality had faltered, “Woah there, girly girl. And who said that’s who I was?” He asked quietly, his pupils growing in size. You could see the love in his eyes and you blushed before leaning forward and kissing him.
You pulled away, much to his dismay. He leaned forward to catch your lips in his once again, leaving you to only raise a brow at him. “Okay...Okay, I say that’s who I am. Give me those cute lips again, doll.” He grinned, causing you to laugh and kiss him again. He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you impossibly close. He ran his hands up and down your body before you pulled away. “You’re getting carried away, darling.” You teased, causing him to only smile and kiss your nose before leaning back to look at your wound. “Can’t help myself with you, Y/n. You’re changin’ me, doll.”
Another smile spread on your face, “And you’re changing me, Riff.” Riff turned your arm for further examination, “How could that asshole be so careless? I swear to ya, Y/n, the very next time I see that motherfucker, I’m really gonna-”
“Riff?”
“Yeah, baby doll?”
“Could ya just clean it please?”
The two of you laughed and he nodded and finally picked up the first aid, “Okay okay, workin’ on it. Keep in mind how bad it’s gonna hurt though.” You nodded, “I know.” Riff picked up the alcohol and poured it over your open wound.
“Ow.” You whined, a frown burning deeper onto Riff’s face. “I know baby doll, I’m sorry. Almost done.” The Jet reassured, cleaning the last bit of your injury. After wrapping up your wound, he took the dress you were wearing and walked to another part of his room, started to scrub at it. You smiled at his dedication and followed behind him. You watched him try everything he had to attempt to get the stains out. Ultimately though, he accidentally made it worse.
“I’m sorry about your shirt.” Riff said sheepishly, frowning at the stained and soaked fabric. You sat next to him and rubbed his shoulder, kissing his temple. “It’s okay. I was going to throw it out anyways.” Riff smiled and laughed softly,
“No you weren’t.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“That’s what I thought. Now, sit still.”

pairing(s): riff lorton x fem!reader
Tumblr media
riff first sees you when he stops by at doc’s. you’re working alongside tony and laughing at something he’s saying to you, one hand coming up a little self-consciously to cover your smile
riff melts on the spot
he bothers tony for next few days, trying to convince him to introduce the two of you
tony first says no, he knows you aren’t too comfortable around strangers
but riff manages to wear him down eventually
you’re a little scared when you first talk to him, and you’re really thankful that tony and riff manage to carry the conversation on their own with little input from you
but over time, talking to riff gets a little easier
until the mf starts flirting with you
my god, you get so flustered
riff’s a pretty smooth guy, with lots of confidence, he knows what he’s doing
you’re the exact opposite
the first time riff calls you “girly girl”, you get so flustered, you have to walk away to the staff room
he always keeps himself in check though
yes, he loves making you blush, but he never wants to actually make you uncomfortable, so he stays within his limits
he takes you out on multiple dates, usually in secluded places
originally, he did this so you’d feel better, but he ends up liking it more himself, it’s quality time with you AND he’s the sole receiver of all your attention
this isn’t always the case though
sometimes you insist on going dancing because you know all the jets are
and riff loves it too, but he won’t go without you
so you try and bear with it as much as you can
you’re too shy to dance in the hall with all the people milling about you though, so you encourage riff to dance with grazie and the other girls
and even if he does, he always manages to find his way back to you
will probably drag you out of the hall to dance in the parking lot
the music is muted, he sings along to it as he sways you around before pulling you into a kiss
you melt against him, knees unsteady, thankful for the arm he secures around your waist to keep you standing
riff’s also great at extracting you from social situations you don’t want to be in
all you have to do is tug on his sleeve once, and he’ll offer the people around you a pleasant smile and believable excuse before whisking you away
he’s usually the one to initiate physical touch, but on the rare occasions that you do?? fucking dead
just imagine, dragging him down by the collar of his shirt to kiss you?? out of absolutely nowhere?
he always makes the most surprised gasp, too
it fuels your ego, gives you the very necessary confidence boost that you need
riff kind of tends to keep the jets away from you, they’re a really loud and often rude gang
he knows you don’t need to be a part of a crowd like that, so the only jets you properly know are riff and tony
all in all, he’s a great boyfriend, and he finds your shyness endearing instead of annoying
it’s just one of the many things he’s loves about you :)

Confidential Couple
“good afternoon, riff.” Y/N said in her thick puerto rican accent, meeting up with him in a secluded alleyway.
riff looked up from lighting his cigarette. “hey Y/N, how’s my lady feeling today?”
“good. and you?”
“my day has gotten a whole hell of a lot better now that you’re here.” riff replied.
riff and Y/N both knew how bizarre of a partnership their relationship was. gringos weren’t supposed to like puerto ricans, and vice versa. especially when riff is the leader of the jets, infamously known for being overprotective of their territory.
Y/N and riff met completely on accident. one day, riff stumbled across a group of puerto rican men beating up on a girl who he believed to be white at first. when he scared the men away and saw that the girl was, in fact, not white, he felt the need to help her anyway. normally, in any other circumstance, he wouldn’t have helped. but she seemed different than all the girls he’d been betrayed by in the past. she carried herself differently, and riff took note of that right away.
riff tried not to become friends with Y/N. and Y/N tried not to become friends with riff. she was extremely shy, and she didn’t want to let her walls down for riff. when Y/N mentioned to him that it was a regular occurrence for the group of older men to beat her up, riff couldn’t help but feel remorse for her. that was a weird feeling for him, as he had never truly experienced it before, especially with a puerto rican girl. given her inherited introverted nature, riff wanted to keep the men that hurt Y/N at bay for as long as possible.
riff tried his hardest to avoid Y/N because he knew if any of the jets saw him anywhere near a puerto rican, he’d practically be exiled. however, something about her kept drawing him back. maybe it was because he desperately craved an escape from living his life as a gang leader. whatever it may be, as more and more time passed, the more often he found himself with Y/N. eventually, a casual friendship developed into a secret romance.
riff opened his arm to give Y/N a hug. given her small stature, she rested her head just below his shoulder in the hug, and riff reached down to reciprocate it.
“what would you like to do today?” Y/N asked, pulling away.
“not like we can go many places, right?” riff replied, taking a puff from his cigarette.
Y/N loved her relationship with riff, despite hating how secretive it had to be. she completely understood why he needed to keep it a secret, it was just a downside to falling in love with a gang leader.
she shrugged in response, looking down.
“you’re extra quiet today, what’s wrong?” riff asked bluntly, stepping closer to her.
“i’m always quiet, riff.”
he laughed and ruffled her hair playfully. “i know that, i just thought you seemed even more quiet than usual, that’s all.”
Y/N shrugged. “i know, i just wish we could do more together. i wish we didn’t have to hide.”
riff sighed, rubbing her shoulders with his hands. “i know girly girl, but it’s safer for the both of us if we keep it a secret. my boys find out, i’m dead. your people find out, you’re dead. the more secretive we are, the better.”
Y/N looked down, and he wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “we can still have fun today.”
after more discussing, the couple decided on playing card games, eating snacks, and resting for the whole day at riff’s place.
riff’s hang out spot was an abandoned train car in the junkyard. he had set up a small table and a bed for him to rest on. for him, it was home. Y/N liked the simplicity of his “house”. she wasn’t into everything lavish and grand.
Y/N couldn’t decide if riff let her win at cards over and over again, or if she was actually really good at them. but, she also figured riff would actually play every so often so she would lose, and riff could tease her about being bad at cards. regardless of the outcome, she enjoyed this valuable time with him.
after a few hours into one of their last games, riff sat up in his spot, holding up a finger that silenced Y/N.
“riff, what-”
“shhh!” he interrupted, listening. Y/N sunk back in her chair a bit.
then, she heard it too. it was the sound of footsteps growing closer and closer to riff’s train car.
“shit,” riff started, standing up. “you gotta hide.”
“hide, seriously?” she whispered back.
“yes, i mean it. these people will not approve of you, and i don’t want them to hurt you, now hide!”
Y/N scrambled to find a sufficient spot to hide in riff’s small abode. suddenly, she realized there was just enough space under his bed for her to hide.
“go, go!” riff said, helping her under the bed. when she disappeared, he sat quietly at his table when a knock sounded on the metal outside his home. Y/N held her breath, trying to keep anxious tears from spilling out of her eyes.
“who is it?” riff asked monotonously.
“a-rab and tiger.”
riff lit a cigarette and took a quick puff. “come in.”
they stepped into his train car and looked around. “who were you talking to in here, riff?” a-rab asked.
riff kept the cigarette he was smoking resting on his lips. “no one.”
“so you were talking to yourself?” tiger asked, not believing riff for a second.
“yes.” riff said coldly, with a sharp “s”.
a-rab squinted at him, before smiling playfully. “you hidin’ a girl here, riff?”
“no.”
“then how ‘bout we have a look around?” asked tiger.
“not like you can even look around much, this is a small place.” riff replied.
meanwhile, Y/N watched the feet from outside the bed walk past multiple times, and it took all of her energy to not make a noise. she was frightened of riff’s friends.
she watched as a pair of shoes stopped in front of the bed, and before she knew it, a pair of eyes that weren’t riff’s caught sight of Y/N. she snapped her own eyes shut, hoping that if she didn’t see him, he wouldn’t see her.
“oh tiger, i think i found something.”
“a lady?” tiger asked, bending down to take a look.
“yep, riff’s hiding a lady.”
“and for good reason too,” riff started harshly. “there’s a reason she had to hide when she heard you two. she doesn’t want anything to do with you.”
“we just want to meet the lucky gal.” tiger said.
“no means no, tiger. now leave.” riff said with a very stern tone.
tiger and a-rab exchanged looks, before going on either side of the makeshift bed and lifting it to the side before riff could stop them.
tiger and a-rab gawked at the sight before them. “woah.” they both saw that Y/N was puerto rican, and not white like they had expected. she had light tear marks on her face.
Y/N looked up to the men and saw their confused, angry, and hurt faces before backing herself as close to the wall as possible.
“you assholes!” riff yelled, storming over to the two jets.
“riff, what the hell is this?” tiger asked.
“how could you do this to the jets? how could you betray us like this?” a-rab continued. “she’s puerto rican!”
“you guys didn’t have to see this. i kept this a secret for a reason. you guys stormed in here and did your own thing, and now we’re all angry. you two need to leave. as your leader, that is an order.” riff yelled, stepping closer to the boys.
Y/N watched the scene unfold in front of her in horror. tiger turned to her, and began to speak. “what have you done to riff?” he started. “he used to be like us. what kind of puerto rican witch shit did you do to make him like you?”
Y/N froze, trying to find words. she stuttered as more slow tears fell out of her eyes. she hated that she was so shy.
“look, she can’t even speak when spoken to, lousy pig!” a-rab yelled.
“hey!” riff yelled again, pushing the boys towards the opening of his train car. “the only person that gets to say anything about Y/N, positive or negative, is me, you hear? now scram before i take a chain to your head.”
he pushed them again and they ran out, not looking back. riff watched as they ran far away.
riff whipped his head around and saw Y/N crying on the floor. he walked over to her, sat down next to her, and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. she leaned her head in and rested her head on his chest, and riff kissed the top of her head.
“i’m sorry, Y/N. i’m so, so sorry.” riff said quietly, gently rubbing her arm.
Y/N lifted her head up and looked at riff. he turned his head so his eyes met hers. “i was scared, that’s all. i guess this crying is a little over dramatic, isn’t it?” she said, laughing a bit.
riff wiped her tears away. “yeah, it is.” he teased.
Y/N giggled, and riff laughed back. “i’m kidding, you handled it just fine. i’m happy they didn’t do anything to you.”
the two sat comfortably together until Y/N fully calmed down. when she did, they stood up, and riff looked down on her. he held her hands in his own for a moment, and then he let go of one and placed it on the side of her face, tilting her head up so she looked at him.
“you know, i always forget how short you are.” riff whispered.
Y/N rolled her eyes. “riff, ni siquiera vayas allí. don’t even go there.”

Larger Than Life
Y/N felt comfortable in valentina’s store. she always did. it seemed like the hectic streets of new york slowed down when she entered, and her busy mind was calmed when she saw valentina. someone who was much like herself.
she liked to take her books, papers, and pens to the store as well. not only did she love to expand her knowledge through the use of always keeping busy with a book, but she loved to get her own ideas out on paper as well. it was a way of grounding herself, and keeping her calm when the natives around her seemed to be targeting her people.
she valued a strong mind. she knew one of her best qualities was he ability to retain knowledge as well as have a drive for learning new knowledge. she loved being different from the rest of her people, and she loved showing the city that not all puerto ricans are the same.
walking into valentina’s, it was like any normal day for Y/N. she had her bag slung neatly over her shoulder, the bag brushing slightly against her long dress that hung over her legs.
“good morning, Y/N.” valentina said as she continued stocking the shelves of her store.
“buenos días, valentina.” Y/N answered in her thick accent, sitting down on one of the tables placed in the shop.
she wasted no time taking the books and her glasses out from the bag, and she immediately got to reading. Y/N loved to read books in english, despite spanish being her first language. she felt english books helped her to grow into the language and learn new things about the language that could help make every day life easier in new york city. the feeling of knowing what big words in english meant and being able to read them delighted her.
all throughout the day, she heard the gentle noises of tony in the basement. she knew of tony, she had seen him a few times while she was there. she knew he was one of the jets, and that he was one of the better gringos the city had to offer. he was a friend of valentina’s, and if valentina trusted him, then Y/N did too.
she was hours into her new book when tony finally emerged. “i’m heading out, riff’s probably out lookin’ for me right about now and i don’t have the energy to deal with him today,” tony started, his glance making his way to the girl with her face shoved into a book. “hi… Y/N, right? take care of valentina for me while i’m gone.” he finished with a smile, walking towards the door.
“yes, i will.” Y/N replied, gaining a small laugh from tony as he closed the shop door behind him.
she wanted to get back to reading, but what tony said took ahold of her mind. riff’s probably out lookin’ for me right about now. could he be stopping by the shop?
she’s heard rumors about the one they call riff, and she knew that he shouldn’t be messed with. but then again, she liked a challenge. people like that interest Y/N greatly.
not long later, the door to valentina’s shop swung open, and she heard the bell placed on top of the door rattle violently. she decided to keep her head buried in the book, deciding whoever walked through that door wasn’t worth it. she had better things to pay her attention to.
after the door swung open, heavy footsteps slowly sounded throughout the store, and the once slow world around Y/N felt even slower.
“riff, tony has gone out.” valentina says, an uneasiness about her voice.
“out where? not like he has many places to go.” riff replied coldly, inhaling from his cigarette.
valentina rolled her eyes and excused herself and walked to the back rooms of the shop, leaving Y/N and riff alone.
Y/N then made the mistake of turning her head to look at riff just as riff turned his head to look at her, and Y/N quickly flicked her head back to what she was reading. however, this didn’t go unnoticed by riff.
“what are you reading there?” riff said without real interest in his voice, sitting down next to Y/N and taking the book out from under her, spinning it around for him to read.
Y/N rolled her eyes. “give it back, riff. i don’t like making a habit of talking to rotten jets like you.”
riff looked taken aback, almost shocked by what Y/N said, and she took this as an opportunity to take her book back and rest her bookmark on the page she left off on. she closed the book quickly and slid it into her bag on the other side of her.
“you’ve got a mouth, i like that. not something you see often with girls in this city, let alone puerto ricans.” riff answered, a sly smile plastered on his face. “where’d you learn how to speak like that?”
“i spend my time educating myself. i hate to say it, but it’s something you’d never know about.” Y/N said, moving to get up when riff stood up with her and blocked her path.
the two had a stare off, anger behind Y/N’s eyes and playfulness behind riff’s. “education, you say? being able to talk back to someone who clearly has the upper hand in this situation isn’t being smart, darling. it’s being stupid.” riff replied, leaning forwards.
Y/N greatly valued her self-taught education and endless knowledge, and she wasn’t going to let some irrelevant boy like riff speak to her this way. “i get it, riff. you’ve got nothing going for you. no family, no home, no life outside the jets, i get it. you fear what you cannot have. and what i have is a self-made, expansive education. and guess what? i did it all by myself. what’s stopping you from making a name for yourself? besides the whole dreadful gang leader persona everyone seems to know you by, of course.”
Y/N stood proudly in front of riff as he softened his eyes. his look changed from one that was joking to one that felt defeated. he felt small under Y/N’s harsh glare.
just before Y/N decided she was going to push past riff and out the door, his smile appeared again. “for a puerto rican girl, you speak english just fine.” riff said, taking in the smoke from his cigarette again.
“and what’s that supposed to mean?” Y/N shot back, waiting anxiously for what riff had to say to that.
riff took a few steps closer to her, but Y/N stayed put. “it means that you’re a standout amongst your people.”
“and what are you? a standout, or inconspicuous?”
riff huffed. “you should be careful what you say next, darling. i don’t think you realize who you’re talking to.”
“oh no, i realize alright,” Y/N began. “you’re the leader of the jets. if any other girl were in my situation right now they’d be scared out of their minds. seeing you with my own two eyes, though, i suppose i’m not seeing much worth noting.” she paused, regaining her breath.
“i’m not afraid of you like the rest of the city is.” Y/N answered, knowing completely well that she wasn’t just bluffing. she knew it would take a lot more than the likes of riff to get under her skin.
“well that’s new,” riff started, flicking his dead cigarette onto valentina’s floor. “why aren’t you afraid of me? if you don’t mind my asking.”
Y/N shrugged, sitting down in her chair she was in previously. “i’m strong-minded, i guess. strong willed. one day that might turn out to be more of a curse than a blessing, though.”
she knew her ways of talking back would one day get her into a tricky situation. it was inevitable. yet, that day had yet to come. the fear of what could happen to her in the future because of her larger than life mind never distracted her from using her power like it should have.
“and why is that? what makes you think it might not work out for you one day?” riff said back, sitting down across from her again.
Y/N noticed riff’s demeanor had changed from when they first met. he accepted the fact that he didn’t have to be the intimidating gang leader he always was in front of her. he leaned into this relief; it was almost like a break for him. not only that, but Y/N also observed that riff looked nervous in front of her. that feeling was something riff wasn’t used to experiencing.
“i could get myself into some trouble. trouble that i can’t talk my way out of.”
riff tapped his finger against the table, as if he was thinking. after a short pause, he said, “well, amiga, if you ever find yourself in trouble that you can’t seem to get out of, you find me. got that?”
Y/N smiled. “if we’re going to be friends, you’ll need to work on your spanish dialect.”
riff laughed. “that might be a little too far for me. besides, i’m not going to take orders from girls i don’t know the names of anymore.”
Y/N gasped. “i never told you my name?”
riff shook his head, waiting patiently for a response.
“i’m Y/N. i come to valentina’s often to read. it’s normally pretty calm in here. today was the first day something exciting happened.”
“so i’m exciting?” riff questioned, a smile growing on his face.
“if that’s what you’d like to call it, yes.”
“Y/N is a nice name, by the way. i guess i know now where to find you if i ever need to.” riff replied.
the two smiled at each other, both having a mutual respect for the other.
valentina came out of the back rooms of the shop, carrying a few boxes. “riff, please stop causing trouble with Y/N over here, she doesn’t have much interest in you, i know her. shoo!” valentina said, taking a rolled up newspaper and swatting at riff to get him to leave.
“it’s okay, valentina. ahora somos amigos. we’re friends.”
valentina shot her an unsure look, and finally walked away from riff, realizing that Y/N was smart enough to be capable of holding riff off on her own.
“sorry riff. you can stay a bit longer if you would like.” valentina said, resting her newspaper on the counter.
“i’d better get going, anyway. i should probably be out lookin’ for tony.”
as riff walked out the door, he paused before the door fully closed. he turned back into the store and took a candy bar off one of the shelves. “see you around, miss Y/N.”
he walked out the door, stolen candy bar in hand, while valentina yelled out the door for riff to come back and pay. Y/N sat blushing in her chair. she couldn’t believe she had a face off with a gang leader, and actually won. she was grateful for the interaction between her and her new friend riff.

Exceeding Expectations
riff was very obviously a flirtatious boy. in fact, Y/N would go as far to say that he is, by far, the flirtiest boy she’s ever met. his coquettish demeanor isn’t what shocked her, though. that was to be expected. it was that he was also flirty with her, as she wasn’t riff’s typical type. she was one hundred percent puerto rican. her parents were immigrants, so that made her a first generation latina american. she spoke spanish in her house, but knew english from a young age. she had an accent, although it wasn’t nearly as thick as her relatives.
Y/N still isn’t sure why riff chose her to mess with out of all the girls he could possibly have. she assumed that riff only started his joking with her as a way to make fun of her nationality, but when she would poke fun at him back, his mean jabs turned into amorous teasing. and oddly, she took it. Y/N didn’t know if all girls in riff’s path got this kind of treatment.
slowly but surely, riff and Y/N became close friends. when riff told the rest of the jets that she was a friend and not foe, the boys took some convincing to be open about riff’s friendship with a puerto rican. eventually, their hatred for her turned into tolerance and nothing more.
one day, when Y/N had met up with riff to hang out, riff noticed she seemed a little more down than normal.
“hey girly girl,” riff asked, smoking a cigarette while leaning on a lamppost when Y/N approached him. “what’s going on?”
“nothing much. you?” she asked back in her slight accent.
“not a lot going on in my life. well, except for the fact that i have you.” riff said, a sly smile plastered on his face.
Y/N rolled her eyes. “you know, that was not one of your better lines. it was a bit weak if i’m being honest. let’s go do something.” she said quickly, beginning to walk past riff. however, she didn’t get very far because he stopped her by catching her wrist and pulling her back so they were face to face once more.
“you seem a little off today.” riff asked with a concerned tone.
“not off, just in desperate need to find something to do.”
“but why is that? why are you desperate?” he pressed. she felt even smaller than she already was under his sharp gaze.
Y/N thought about it. “i’ll tell you somewhere more private.”
riff led her to one of his secret hideaways in new york city, which was just a small, abandoned garden behind a small, abandoned apartment complex. when he could, he took care of the garden and made it somewhat presentable. Y/N admired this trait of his.
riff opened the gate to the fenced in garden and he sat down with his back leaned against the fence. he reached his arm up and looked up at Y/N, who was still standing. “come sit.”
Y/N tried to hide the blush that grew on her cheeks and she got on the ground and sat next to him, and he wrapped his arm around her shoulders. she was tense at first, but grew to become quite comfortable under his arm. “tell me what’s wrong.” riff asked.
she sighed. “riff, it’s that time of the month for me.”
riff turned to Y/N, confused. “your what?”
“you know that thing that happens to girls every month for about a week or so? that’s happening to me right now.”
riff raised an eyebrow. “…what?”
Y/N closed her eyes and laughed. “riff, i’m on my period!”
he considered what she said. “oh, that. why didn’t you just say that?”
“i did!” Y/N exclaimed, still laughing. “i can tell girls don’t talk to you about this sort of thing often.”
“so, what’s the problem? why is that your reason for being down?”
Y/N glared at him. “oh, i don’t know. maybe it’s because my entire body is in pain?” she said sarcastically, breaking from riff’s hold and falling to the side, laying down on the ground. riff scooted to her side and looked down at her.
“periods hurt?”
“my god riff, you’re truly something else.” Y/N replied, covering her face with her hands.
“where does it hurt?” he asked softly.
she removed her hands and pointed to her lower stomach. “here.”
“i can rub it for you if you want.”
she sat up on her elbows. “i knew you were a flirt riff, but this is a whole new level for you.”
“i’m always trying to exceed expectations.” he said with a wink.
Y/N lowered herself again and laid down. “you’re insufferable. but, i’m greatly in need for some relief, so go for it.”
riff placed his hand on her stomach, and began to rub it. “is this working?”
she paused. “actually, it kind of is. keep going.”
he massaged her lower stomach more, and the longer he went on, the weirder the situation was for Y/N. her best friend was rubbing her period cramps away, and surprisingly, she liked it.
after a few minutes, she felt like her pain had eased a bit. “okay riff, thank you. that really did help a lot.”
“it was my pleasure,” he started, removing his hand. “what do you want to do now?”
Y/N sat up. “seeming as my body is still so tired, i’m honestly down to just lay around all day. you in?”
“always.”
for the rest of the afternoon, Y/N and riff relaxed in the garden and talked. she enjoyed her time with riff greatly. however, shortly before dark, she got a piercing headache due to her period. it had been building all day, but now it was becoming almost unbearable.
out of nowhere, she groaned and rested her head on her knees that were bent up to her chest.
“what’s wrong?” riff asked.
“headache.” she mumbled back.
“i can help!”
she lifted her head again to see what riff meant, and he took her head in both hands and began rubbing her temples with his thumbs.
“riff!” she yelled, pushing him away and laughing.
riff laughed too. “trust me, this always helps headaches go away. i use this trick all the time.”
“i believe you, but i’m confident that i can do it myself.” she snapped back.
“let me do it, please? i’m good at it, i swear.” riff asked, pleading to her with puppy dog eyes.
“fine. but if i get uncomfortable, i’m pushing you away again.”
riff placed his hands on the back of her head again and gently rubbed her temples with his thumbs. she tried her hardest to relax and even closed her eyes, but she remained tense.
“i can’t do this.” she said before holding onto riff’s wrists and taking his hands away from her head.
“but didn’t it help?”
Y/N avoided eye contact with riff. “a little, i guess.”
riff laughed. “hah, i told you. you should listen to me more often, Y/N.”
“and take orders from you? i’d rather die.”
riff smirked. “i like how you talk back to me. no one else would dare to do that, besides you.”
“someone has to put you in your place, right?”
as the sky switched from an orange and pink mix to a dark blue as the sun set behind the horizon, Y/N and riff took a nighttime walk back to her apartment.
“you know, you really did exceed my expectations today. who would have thought that a ruthless gang leader like you would be so caring?” Y/N asked as they walked side by side.
“only for you darling. only for you.” riff replied.
they made it outside Y/N’s apartment complex, and they stopped to face each other.
“this moonlight really brings out your eyes.” riff said, slightly dazed.
Y/N decided to flirt back for a change. “it brings out yours too.”
riff blushed. Y/N’s eyes flicked to his lips, and his flicked to hers. as if on cue, riff took hold of her chin and tilted her head up, leaning down and placing a long awaited kiss on her lips. Y/N stood on her tip toes to meet him, and she smiled against the kiss, and returned it happily.
riff pulled away and he let his hand linger on her chin. the two made eye contact for a moment before he smiled at her and turned to walk away. “i’ll see you tomorrow, Y/N.”
Y/N bit her lip. “goodnight riff.”

Calm Within the Storm
Y/N met up with riff near valentina’s store on a cloudy summer afternoon. when she approached him outside the building he sauntered up to her, leaning down close to her.
“you smell that, Y/N?” riff asked the girl, inhaling deeply. “smells like we got a storm comin’.”
Y/N looked up into the air, spotting the dark clouds rolling in over the city. the rumble of thunder sounded way off in the distance.
Y/N and riff were an accidental friendship. she was working for valentina when she met riff, who would stop by frequently to visit tony. gradually, they began to talk more and more as he came in, and a bond grew. at first, it was a short lived romance that they tested out, but when they found that their romantic relationship wasn’t working, they decided to just be good friends, which worked out so much better for the both of them.
the pair really did feel like siblings most of the time. they bantered back and forth constantly, but with riff being a year older, he took on a guardian type of role with Y/N. looking after a girl and leading a gang were very dissimilar, however. despite the two different realms he lived in, he secretly liked the friendship and bond he built with Y/N more than most of the ones he had with the jet boys.
riff didn’t like that he was friends with a latina at first. he loved Y/N like a sister, but he felt that having her as a friend made him seem unfavorable as the leader of the jets. it took the boys a long time to get used to having Y/N around.
“riff,” she started in her heavy accent, thinkingabout what riff had told her. “we should probably go indoors if it’s going to rain. it’s not safe to be out in storms.”
sprinkles of rain started falling from the sky, and she sent riff a pleading look.
“no worries, it’s just a little rain. all it does is get you wet, have some fun every once in a while!” he exclaimed, taking Y/N by the hand and running down the street. she laughed, forgetting for a moment that she was deathly afraid of thunder.
they stopped when the rainfall grew stronger. she looked up at the sky into the rain, her breath hitching in her throat when dark clouds were floating right above her head. the cool water that poured from the sky felt smooth on her skin.
Y/N turned to riff, who was just as soaked as she was. his hair fell over his forehead, and he pushed it away.
they exchanged looks, feeling the rain hit their bodies. then, rolling thunder sounded above them, and in the distance a lightning strike lit up the dark sky. Y/N jumped, feeling her heart rate quicken. she was hoping riff didn’t notice her reaction.
“okay, maybe you’re right. we should wait it out.” riff suggested, leading Y/N to a small covered area under train tracks in the heart of the city with an empty bench that was the perfect size for both of them to fit.
she sat down on the bench, shivering both from being scared and being cold. riff sat next to her, noticing she was shaking.
“cold?” riff asked. she hesitated before turning to him and nodding. he wrapped an arm around her to contain some heat. thunder sounded again, even closer this time, and Y/N about jumped out of her skin.
riff scoffed when he felt her get startled. “what, you’re scared of a little thunderstorm?” he asked, removing his arm. when she didn’t answer, he kept going. “i thought only babies were afraid of storms, not teenage girls.”
Y/N kept quiet and turned her back to him. riff took a cigarette and a lighter out of his pocket, filling the misty air with the smell of tobacco.
“look, i’m sorry. i’m sorry that you never grew past the maturity of a seven year old.” he laughed, blowing out the smoke. the pounding rain against the metal above them grew to be almost deafening as it began to pour, and simultaneously a crack of lightning struck only a few blocks away from them. Y/N flinched and whimpered, hugging herself for comfort. she looked down, trying not to cry.
riff softened when he saw her very real reaction. “oh, so you’re like actually afraid of storms.” he said quietly.
with tears streaming down her already wet face, she looked at him and sent him a harsh glare. she looked back down again, trying to suppress a sob.
“hey, Y/N, i’m sorry. genuinely this time,” he started, scooting closer to her. he gently placed a hand on her shoulder before continuing. “if you don’t mind me asking, what makes you so afraid of storms?”
she took a deep breath in. “i hate loud noises. my town i grew up in in puerto rico wasn’t the safest, and the sound of gunshots at night always frightened me. i hate the feeling i get when i hear a loud noise like that. i can almost feel it throughout my entire body. my body feels like it paralyzes, and my mind goes blank.”
riff rubbed her shoulder before removing his hand and leaning back into the bench. “i get it. when baby john first joined the jets, he was the same way. every loud noise he heard startled him, and the rest of the boys laughed and said he wasn’t ready to join us. they said he wasn’t a real man for being afraid of something like thunder. at first i did the same thing, i didn’t take it seriously. but he saw we didn’t treat him like everyone else, and then i felt for the kid, and i helped him work through his fear so the boys wouldn’t make fun of him anymore. i can help you too.” he said, smoking his cigarette.
“you don’t have to riff, i’m a lost cause. i’ve been like this for too long, i don’t think you can fix-” another lightning strike touched down only a few blocks away, followed by the loudest crash of thunder yet. Y/N jumped in her spot and instinctively leaned into riff for protection, who wrapped his arms around her. she began to cry again, and riff felt her back raise and lower with sobs under his arms that were around her back.
“don’t cry Y/N,” he said as she remained buried in his side. “you’re okay, you’re safe. nothing bad is going to get you.”
“i know. i know it’s an irrational fear, but i don’t know how to fix it. it’s so embarrassing to tell people that me, a seventeen year old girl, is afraid of a thunderstorm.” she admitted, still in riff’s embrace.
“everyone has their fears. yours is just more unique, that’s all. it makes you you.” he replied.
when she felt ready, Y/N sat up, looking at riff. she had never heard him be so sweet and kind. she almost felt like this was a sick prank.
riff reached up and wiped a few stray tears away with this thumb. “i promise there’s nothing to worry about, okay? i can help you through this.”
she nodded. riff took her hand, squeezing it tightly. “now, the key to getting over the fear of thunderstorms is distractions. if you can take your mind off of it, it won’t feel as bad. now focus on your hand in mine. think of how it feels, and how it makes you feel and keep your mind set on that.”
Y/N did as she was told, and as she felt the warmth radiating off of riff, she began to feel calmer. she closed her eyes, feeling borderline relaxed for once.
“that was good. and now, focus on my voice. listen to it, and tune your mind so that’s all you hear. not the rain, not the city around you, just me.”
she did it, and when the next boom of thunder sounded, she jumped but was able to keep her composure.
“that actually worked.” she said, surprised. riff rolled his eyes. “yeah, i knew it would. you have to trust me. i have good ideas some of the time.”
Y/N shivered once again from the cold, and riff smiled, putting his arms around her once again and leaning her into him to keep warm.
“i hate the rain, it makes me cold.” she said, resulting in a laugh from riff.
“it does that a lot, doesn’t it? but luckily for you, you’ve got me as your chosen big brother to keep you warm.”
“and luckily for you, you have a chosen little sister to bug you all the time.”
riff grinned. “you’re so cute, Y/N.”
another set of rolling thunder came through, and Y/N twitched in riff’s arms. she did what riff had taught her, and she felt his heat around her and focused on the feeling of his skin against hers. she loved the feeling of protection she felt from riff. being a latina i in new york city isn’t easy, but having riff on her side made her life so much easier. there was less worry about being safe since her form of protection was the leader of the city’s biggest and most powerful gang.
Y/N leaned her head on riff’s shoulder, and he kissed her head before resting his own head on top of hers until the storm passed. every so often, thunder would sound but it didn’t impact her nearly as much as it used to. riff subdued her fears.
the clouds overhead dissipated, and the thunder grew fainter and fainter as time went on. the rain came to a halt, and they emerged from under the train tracks and found that the sun was peeking through the remaining clouds.
“see, that wasn’t too bad, was it?” riff asked, nudging her with his shoulder.
“it was bad, but it would have been much worse if it weren’t for you.” she replied back.
“oh gee Y/N, i’m touched.” riff said dramatically, his hand on his chest.
she laughed. “don’t get too carried away.”
they walked around the city together, passing by soaked people who had just emerged once again like they had. every once in a while, they would approach a puddle and riff would jump in it, splashing Y/N.
to get back at him, Y/N beat riff to the next puddle and she prepared herself to jump into the large puddle, soaking riff more that she had originally anticipated. she hid her laugh, and riff also tried to keep a straight face.
“you’re dead, Y/N.”
riff and Y/N laughed as he chased her down the street and into a park, before riff caught up to her and tackled her in a fit of giggles. they laid side by side on the wet grass, enjoying each other’s company.
“thanks for being by my side. you’re kind of a lifesaver.” she told him after they had calmed down.
riff turned red. “it’s my pleasure. i wouldn’t do this for just anyone, you’re special to me. more special than you know.”
Y/N smiled, endlessly grateful to be riff’s friend. he was one in a million, and she felt honored to just know him.

Drunken Nights 18+
Masterlist
I stood, looking between my phone and my drunk boyfriend. It wasn’t often Mike would get drunk but when he does, all bets are off. Every person he meets is suddenly his best friend and he has to say goodbye to everyone, which was hard when you’re at a wedding.
“Mike,” I say, tugging his arm gently, “our ride is almost here.” I hold up my phone so he can see for himself. Leaning in and squinting, he nods in agreement not realizing he didn’t stop leaning in. “Hey, careful!” I laugh and push him back up to stand properly.
“Whoops,” He smiles at me lazily, “let’s go home beautiful!” He yells out, throwing his arm around me, a blush spread across my face.
I led us out of the venue and into the uber that was now waiting for us. Mike slumped his body back on the seats then snuck his arm around my waist, pulling me into him. He began to talk to our driver, just small talk but somehow it ended up with this guy giving us his life story, and Mike drunkenly encouraging him to follow his passion. I nudged him slightly, trying to get his attention but was met with only a light squeeze. I let out a sigh and leaned over to look out the window the rest of the way home. We thanked the driver and I helped Mike climb up the steps to our place.
“Let’s get you to bed,” I say closing the door behind us. I watch as Mike’s expression changes slightly to one of mischief. “No no no, you are going to bed.”
“I’ll go,” He smirked back, “but you have to come with me.” He leans in and kisses me sloppily and hungrily and I can’t help but smile into the kiss. He turned to lean on the doorway but missed and caught himself right before falling.
“You’re not going to make it there on your own,” I laugh, kissing him back and putting my arm around his waist. I direct him toward our bedroom and push him to the bed, signalling him to sit down. “You need to lay down baby,” I say softly walking over to where my dresser is. I slide my dress over my head and toss it over into the hamper.
“You look so sexy, (Y/N),” Mike said, watching me from the bed, “c’mere.”
“Thanks, babe,” I walked over, a smile on my lips as I watched his eyes travel down my body and then back up to meet my gaze. “But,” I began, giving him a shrug, “you’re way too drunk.” I stopped in front of him and began to run my fingers through his tangled brown locks. It wasn’t long before I felt him grab my waist, pulling me into him and making me squeal.
“Don’t pretend like you don’t want me,” His lips were against my ear and I could smell the liquor on his breath. “You’re not good at that.”
I smiled briefly at his words, he was right. My thoughts were interrupted by the feeling of his lips on my collar bone. I wrapped my arms around his neck instinctively, so I was now sitting on his lap. I leaned back slightly, taking in his appearance. His eyes darkened with lust, his cheeks slightly rosy from the alcohol, his lips plump from kissing my neck. He was still wearing his suit.
“I think I’m at a disadvantage here,” I giggled, tugging lightly on his shirt, “you should take this stuff off.”
Mike smiled down at me and started to undo the buttons on his shirt one at a time before tossing it behind him. I instantly ran my fingers along his chest, leaning in to place kisses on his skin. Earning a soft moan, the kisses turned into nibbles as I tried to get another noise from his lips.
“Alright babe,” he mumbled into my hair, pulling my mouth off of him. “I’m filming this week, I can’t have a hickey.” I pouted up at him and he mimicked my face before tilting my chin slightly and kissing my lips. “Just no marks princess, other than that I’m all yours,” he says, falling back, pulling me on top of him.
“All mine?” I ask, smirking down at him. He nodded eagerly in response. “Well these need to come off,” I say motioning to his pants before sliding myself down so I’m eye level with his belt.
Mike props himself up on his elbows and watches as I undo the belt buckle and button on his pants. Pull them down his body, quickly followed by his boxers. He had a semi so I began to massage his cock gently as he let out a moan, tossing his head back in pleasure. I took this opportunity to put his cock into my mouth, taking the whole length until I gag slightly. I felt his hands grab my hair instantly, followed by words of encouragement and more soft moans.
“Oh fuck,” I heard Mike moan out and I looked up to see him watching as I deep throat his dick. “You’re so good at that.” He began to move his hips harder, fucking my mouth and I could tell he was close so I started rubbing his balls lightly, just how he likes it. Soon I felt him release in my mouth, I looked up at him and swallowed then opened my mouth to show him. “What a good girl,” he said before placing a soft kiss on my lips.
“You really should sleep,” I smiled up at his beautiful blue eyes that were now clouded with exhaustion. I pushed on his chest making him lay flat before I covered him with the blanket, “Goodnight Mike.”
“Goodnight beautiful.”

Ghosts
“Y/N, your friend is here!” Y/N’s mom yelled.
“coming!” Y/N yelled back from upstairs. she finished clipping her hair back and ran down the stairs with her school back pack looped around her shoulders.
she quickly said goodbye to her mom and grabbed a package of pop tarts for the road. she walked out of her front door and saw her best friend riff’s car.
she opened the passenger side and saw a smiling riff.
“it’s about time you got out here,” he said playfully, reversing the car to get out of her driveway.
“do you want me to share my pop tart with you or not?” Y/N asked, resulting in riff frowning before muttering a small “fine” and taking a pop tart from his friend.
every morning before school, riff picked Y/N up. if it weren’t for him, she would have to walk across town to school every day, and he didn’t like to see her walking alone through all types of weather.
the two became friends right from the moment they met in kindergarten. Y/N was playing with blocks when riff came over and, being his typical self, knocked them down. she cried, and riff instantly felt bad. he offered to help her set them up again, amd from then on, they were inseparable.
as the pair reached puberty, riff noticed his feelings for Y/N were beyond just friendship. although he had an undeniable crush on his best friend, he never acted on it. he was happy to simply be her friend, and he didn’t want to ruin that. besides, Y/N always seemed to have her mind set on someone else.
“how are you and… what was her name? nadia?” riff asked as he drove the familiar route to school.
Y/N cringed. “oh, me and nadia? yeah… it’s not going to work.”
riff sighed. “dammit Y/N, i’m sorry,” he replied sadly. “what happened?”
Y/N bit her lip. “i thought it was going well, i really did. we got along well, she liked me, i liked her, and then she ghosted me. out of the blue, with no explanation,” she avoided riff’s concerned glares. “it sucks because i really liked this girl.”
“that’s awful,” he replied back softly. “you didn’t deserve that.”
“i know, tell me about it.”
riff went silent for a moment. “you know what, i have an idea. to cheer you up, lets get together with the guys for a movie night tonight. we can come to my house and eat snacks and binge all of your favorite movies. deal?”
Y/N laughed. “you always know how to make me feel better.”
they arrived at school, and met up with their group in their usual hang out spot, which was in the cafeteria. they found ice, mouthpiece, a-rab, baby john, and tiger waiting for them.
“it’s about time youse showed up!” mouthpiece exclaimed in his thick new york accent.
“we were taking our sweet time,” riff said back, approaching the boys. “and, we had to make a plan for tonight. the girl Y/N was talking to ended up being a grade-A asshole who completely ghosted her, and to make her feel better, we’re having a movie night at my place.”
Y/N felt like crawling into a hole and disappearing. she didn’t want to make more people pity her. “riff, what the hell!” she frantically stated, hiding her face that was turning bright red.
“wait, you got ghosted?” baby john asked sweetly.
“that’s awful,” ice added in the same tone.
“that’s what i said,” riff started, turning to ice. “so, you in fellas?”
they all agreed to the movie night, and although Y/N was excited and thankful for the boys, she couldn’t tell them the real reason her and nadia stopped talking. sure, nadia did ghost her. but a part of her almost felt relieved it didn’t work, because there was someone else she had her eye on. someone she could see herself with more.
the day absolutely flew by, and before she knew it, school was let out and riff was driving her to the store to pick up her favorite snacks.
“what are you thinkin’?” riff asked as they browsed the various snacks.
“hmm… popcorn? and how about gummy bears? we should probably get some chips too, mouthpiece always manages to choke on the popcorn every time he eats it,” Y/N said, mostly talking to herself as she searched the aisles. eventually, she bought all of that and picked out some cookies as well.
they drove back to riff’s, and the boys met them there. riff’s house wasn’t necessarily small, but it wasn’t grand either. it was an average one story home with a two car garage. his parents were almost never home, which gave him more freedom to do what he pleased around the house.
“so, Y/N, why did nadia ghost you?” a-rab asked after they had all gathered around riff’s tv in his living room.
“that’s the whole point of ghosting. they don’t give you a reason why they leave, they just do,” Y/N replied.
a-rab rolled his eyes. Y/N situated herself next to riff on the couch, and the rest of the boys filled in the empty spots around them.
“so, what should we watch first?” tiger asked. riff pulled up netflix on his tv, and turned to Y/N.
“Y/N, what do you think?”
she thought about her options. “how about… oh, i know. let’s watch spider-man.”
the boys turned to look at her. “spider-man? really?” ice asked.
Y/N frowned. “you guys asked me what i wanted to watch!”
“pick something else,” tiger suggested.
“fine. let’s watch mean girls.”
riff laughed. “that’s more like it.”
he turned the movie on, and the group of friends laughed and quoted the movie as it went on. when it finished, the winter sun was setting early at about five o’clock.
“can i choose the next movie?” riff asked. Y/N nodded, and he browsed his options.
“since it’s getting dark, how about a scary movie?” riff asked the group. the boys nodded and made sounds of agreement, and Y/N sighed.
“you know i don’t like scary movies,” she told him.
“don’t worry about it, i’ll protect you if anything scary happens,” riff said nonchalantly. the boys held their breath, mentally applauding riff for being so bold. Y/N blushed at his remark.
after much discussion, the group finally decided on a movie: the conjuring. while the boys couldn’t wait, Y/N knew she wouldn’t exactly enjoy this movie. scary movies weren’t her thing, but she hoped that her fears would be eased if riff was by her side to comfort her.
riff turned it on, and the group got comfy in their spots with their various snacks. only ten minutes into the movie, riff already saw that Y/N was tense, and he slowly reached his arm around her shoulders. she felt surprised by his touch at first, but needed the comfort.
the movie went on, and the first jump scare appeared on screen. mouthpiece screamed at the top of his lungs, baby john accidentally spit out his drink, and tiger held onto a-rab, which a-rab wasn’t fond of.
when Y/N jumped, her first instinct was to attach herself closer to riff. she made a small whimper at the jump, and riff held her close.
“you okay?” riff asked her quietly.
she released the pent up tension in her body. “yeah, i think i’m okay.”
“don’t let a horror movie scare you. it’s all fake,” riff said. Y/N raised her head to look at him.
“you say that like i don’t already know that.”
ice turned around from his spot on the floor. “are you two lovebirds going to watch the movie or keep chattin’ through it?”
the pair stared ice down. “lovebirds?”
“you heard me.”
after trying to ignore ice’s comment, the movie went on, and there was a scene that was one scary thing after another. Y/N buried her head into riff’s shoulder, and he securely wrapped his arms around her.
“i can’t watch!” Y/N uneasily said. despite the scary movie, riff was smiling. he had wanted to have Y/N in his arms for a long time now, and now she was finally there.
the scary part passed, and Y/N kept her head on riff’s shoulder. “it’s done now,” riff whispered. she lifted her head up, but kept her body pressed closely to his. she was happy riff wasn’t weirded out by her sudden closeness. after being ghosted, she realized the one she wanted to get closer with was right in front of her. and now, her opportunity had arrived.
after two long hours of constantly burying her head into riff’s side and lifting her head up only to bury it again at another scary part, the movie had ended.
“i can’t believe you guys actually enjoyed watching that,” Y/N said after getting up to get some water.
“you enjoyed it alright,” a-rab fired back.
“did you see me? i kept my head down the entire time!” she replied.
“yeah, but that gave you an opportunity to get closer to riff, didn’t it?”
the room went silent, and riff and Y/N exchanged knowing glares. the boys watched this exchange and smiled to themselves.
“ah, that’s what we thought,” mouthpiece started. “we’ll leave you two to talk it out, make out, solve your obvious sexual tension, i don’t know. if you need us, we’ll be searchin’ through riff’s valuables in his room.”
riff stared at the boys with his jaw dropped as they walked towards riff’s room. “if you dicks steal anything i’ll kill you!” he yelled.
the two were left alone, and the air was thick with tension.
“is there something you need to tell me?” Y/N asked, stepping closer to the couch riff was still sitting on.
he avoided eye contact. “i was secretly happy when you and nadia didn’t work. i wanted you for myself, because i like you. i always have, i just didn’t want to ruin the friendship we had already built.”
Y/N lightly smiled. “you’ll be glad to hear that i was also secretly happy when we didn’t work. i had other people i wanted to spend my time with.”
riff’s grin spanned across his face. “is that person me?”
with the smile still present on her face, she sat down across from riff on the couch. “no, not at all. i was actually going after a-rab all this time,” she replied sarcastically.
riff laughed and rolled his eyes. he took Y/N’s arm and dragged her to his chest, and she gladly got comfy under his arm.
“you make me so happy,” riff told her, kissing her head.
“you make me happy too.”
after a few glorious minutes of just the two of them finally basking in their love, Y/N broke the silence.
“we should call the boys back in, right?”
riff thought about it. “no, i like it just the two of us.”
Y/N giggled. “fair enough.”
they sat in that position for longer than they even knew, feeling like they’ve both finally found what it means to be in love.

Opposites
being the twin sister of a-rab was never easy. for one, they were polar opposites. a-rab had a lot of hatred in his heart, and Y/N was never like that. he was a ruthless territory hog that didn’t know how to share. Y/N, on the other hand, was open. she was accepting of all people and things, which was something she greatly admired about herself. a-rab was the outspoken and loud sibling, while Y/N was quiet and timid. it was hard for them to ever have any conversations because they disagreed on so much.
despite their differences, Y/N still worried for his safety on the daily. she did not approve of the gang life the jets led, but she couldn’t stop a-rab no matter how hard she tried. he was just too stubborn. that was yet another one of their differences.
however, one good thing seemed to come out of a-rab being apart of the jets. through him, Y/N met riff.
riff was also the polar opposite of her, but they somehow managed to click right away. they would bicker back and forth all the time, but eventually bonded over their shared sense of humor. behind a-rab’s back, the two grew close and began dating. when a-rab found out about their secret relationship, he was beyond furious. he about tore riff’s head off, but when Y/N was able to calm him down and convince him that everything was okay, a-rab began to tolerate their romance and nothing more.
a-rab hated that his sister always tagged along with the gang, because he felt like his entire life the two were stuck together and when he finally found something for himself, she wormed her way into that too. he always thought Y/N was turning riff soft, given the fact that she was kind and gentle, which contrasted heavily with the gang’s public image that riff worked so hard to build and create. a-rab always seemed to keep a close eye on them when they weren’t looking, after telling everyone he “didn’t care.”
the rest of the jets liked Y/N’s presence more than a-rab did. she grew to be like a sister to the rest of the guys, because she showed them care and platonic love when no one else in their lives did.
november 5th rolled around, which happened to be the twins’ birthday. Y/N had spent the night with riff in his tattered tent in the junkyard that could only contain so much heat during the winter months. this was the place riff called home.
when she awoke, she shivered to herself, realizing riff’s body heat wasn’t there to warm her up. she sat up and looked around, looking for any sign that he had gotten up and left. she noticed his clothes were gone. then, she heard and saw rocks being thrown at the back of the tent.
“riff?” she asked nervously, partially expecting an answer from him. she threw on her thick winter jacket and unzipped the tent, looking for any sign of riff. when she turned around to look at the area behind the tent where the rocks were coming from, she saw a group of jet boys behind riff who were holding a piece of cardboard with the words “happy birthday Y/N!” on it. when she saw it, the boys yelled, “surprise!”
she looked around at the other sights, and saw that there was a small box with candy bars on a makeshift wooden table, which she assumed was for her. also on the table was a bottle of her favorite soda.
she smiled before walking to the boys, and she made her way to riff.
“happy birthday, Y/N. how old are you now, seventeen?” riff asked, wrapping his free arm around her waist.
“you know how old i am.” she said flirtatiously, receiving a kiss from riff.
“thank you boys so much for this. this is so sweet, i’m really feeling the love and warmth on this cold day.” Y/N said genuinely, keeping close to riff.
a-rab parted through the crowd. “you guys do know it’s my birthday too, right?”
mouthpiece turned around and looked at him. “we know, we just like her better.” he said, pointing to Y/N.
ice stepped over to the box of candy bars on the table. “these bars were donated to us for your birthday by valentina” he said proudly.
baby john turned to him. “you mean stolen?” in response, ice slapped him on the back of his head.
Y/N laughed, taking a bar out and eating it. “i’ll have to pay valentina back for these later.” she opened the bottle of soda and washed the candy bar down. “you boys really went all out for this.”
“and it was all his idea.” snowboy said, causing the group to look at riff who was blushing like crazy.
“what a romantic.” Y/N remarked, walking back to him and placing a hand on his chest. riff stole the bottle of soda from her hands and took a quick sip.
she talked with the boys for a while longer, enjoying her candy that she split with the boys as a thank you for a while longer.
“as fun as this has been, i have some extra stuff planned out for just the two of us, darling.” riff told her, taking her hand.
“what kind of stuff?” she asked.
“guess you’ll have to come with me to find out.”
the boys and Y/N all said their goodbyes before riff took her hand and led her further into new york city. after a ten minute walk, riff led her to central park.
“what are we doing here?” she asked, soaking in every part of the park.
“you ask a lot of questions.” riff said back. Y/N rolled her eyes, letting riff lead the way.
eventually, they came across a pond with a picnic blanket and basket sitting all alone. near the picnic basket was extra blankets to combat the cold.
“what are you trying to do, fatten me up for my birthday?”
riff laughed and sat on the blanket. “nope, just trying to celebrate you.”
Y/N sat down and peered into the basket, seeing soup and bread. “riff, how did you afford this? you can’t even afford a few candy bars, let alone this.”
he shrugged. “charm can get you a long way. who would have thought?”
the two enjoyed each others company and ate their warm soup, which felt incredible given the snow-filled, chilly day.
the afternoon was slowly turning to night, and the pair laid on their backs and spread a few of the blankets over their bodies while stargazing. riff propped his head up with one arm, with the other wrapped around Y/N’s shoulders. she laid comfortably on his chest, loving the natural heat riff was radiating.
the feeling she got from being close to riff was like no other. she could feel every little squeeze against her waist, every little breath he took. she never wanted to leave his embrace.
“did you have a nice birthday?” riff asked quietly, trying not to lose the serenity of the moment.
“the best, thank you for everything. you really know how to make a girl feel special.”
riff laughed, brushing stray hairs out of her face with the hand that was resting on her shoulder. “how mad do you think a-rab is going to be for the guys celebrating your birthday and not his?”
Y/N laughed back. “he won’t be happy. for someone who only just turned seventeen, he’s kind of like a crotchety old man.”
she sighed. “as much as we openly talk about our dismay for one another, i still love him. this is probably just the overly cautious side of me, but i don’t want him to be too offended by this. i’ll feel so bad if he felt under appreciated today.”
riff rested his hand on the side of her head. “i wouldn’t worry about it too much, a-rab is kind of a loser.”
she smiled. “true, he is a loser. but i’m still his sister, which makes me also a loser.”
riff turned to look at her. “you may be a loser, but you’re my loser.”
Y/N giggled and blushed, turning to look at riff back. they held eye contact, both fully entranced by the other. riff grazed his fingers over her shoulder, causing her to get chills that were unrelated to the cold.
“i do have one more surprise for you.”
he sat up, bringing her with him. he reached into his back pocket and held out a beautiful silver ring. it reflected the moonlight that hit the glimmering stone in its center perfectly.
“riff, did you steal this?” she asked, breathless.
riff looked at her, almost offended. “although that was a very reasonable guess to make, i didn’t steal it this time. it was my mother’s ring that i kept with me all these years. i was waiting for the day when i’d find some use for it, and it looks like i finally have.”
Y/N stared back at him, eyes glossy with happy tears. riff swallowed before continuing. “i make a lot of jokes, and despite a lot of our relationship being built solely on humor, i want to have a serious conversation for once. i know we can be totally different sometimes, and because of that people seem to think we’re tearing each other down. i’m making you bad, you’re making me soft. but i don’t see myself weakening when i’m with you. actually, i feel quite the opposite. i feel stronger with you because you completed a part of me i didn’t know i was missing,” he paused, taking her hand and sliding the ring on her index finger. “with this ring i promise to always be by your side.”
a singular tear fell out of her eye. “Y/N, why are you crying?” riff asked, pulling her into a hug.
“i just love you so much.” she said into his shoulder.
he smiled, basking in the cozy embrace. “and i love you. you deserve the very best today and every day. happy birthday sweetheart.”
“i love you too, riff. thank you for being the best boyfriend a girl like me could ever have.”
the two sat in their hug for a long time, enjoying the unconditional love from the other and enjoying the temporary escape from the bitter cold.

Do Over - Chapter 5
Tumblr media
Masterlist Chapter 5: Goin' Out
18+
I sat on the couch, trying to read while Jo paced back and forth waiting for her date. She was biting her nails, clearly nervous.
“What if he doesn’t come?” She asked, turning to face me. As if on cue, there was a knock on the door and Jo let out a squeal in excitement before bounding over to the door. Opening it, her expression changed, clearly disappointed, “What are you doing here?”
“Nice to see ya too,” I turned my head at the sound of Riff’s voice. He leaned on the door, casually with his hands in his pockets, “you’re not the only one with plans.” He reached out to touch her hair but Jo swatted his arm away before he could.
“Stop it,” she grumbled, “it took me forever!” Jo quickly ran off to go look in the mirror and I rolled my eyes at her antics. Riff let out a laugh, clearly amused by her before he stepped in, closing the door behind him.
“So,” he started to make his way over to where I was sitting, “I’m thinking the kid goes out, then we go out.” He smiles at me taking a seat on the armchair next to me. I could definitely get used to him coming over but it’s probably not a good idea.
“Out?” I raised my eyebrow at him quizzically, “who said anything about going out?” It was his turn to roll his eyes. The idea of going out with him had me feeling excited and scared but I did my best to hide it.
“I'm going to show you the city.” He leaned back, smirking at me, “not a choice either, girly.” I felt butterflies in my stomach at his words and my cheeks began to turn red, a blush spreading across my face. He eyed me up and down slowly, then opened his mouth to say something but he was cut off by a loud knock on the door.
“I got it!” Jo yelled as she ran down the hall. She slid the last few feet, the door stopping her fall. Riff and I both stifled a laugh watching her, earning a glare. “Hi Peter,” Jo spoke smoothly, opening the door to reveal her date.
“Joanna,” he smiled sweetly at her. “You look beautiful tonight,” he sounded confident when he spoke, which was unusual for boys his age. He looked to where I was sitting, “Is this your sister?”
“Hi,” I said standing up, not wanting to seem rude. Making my way over to the doorway, I could see Riff change his posture in the chair out of the corner of my eye - he no longer seemed relaxed. “I’m Margaret,” I continued, reaching out to shake his hand.
“Peter,” he responded, gripping my hand. I heard him take a breath, “and might I say you have a great sister. I was thrilled when she said yes to the dance.” A blush slowly crept onto his face, he’s definitely nervous now, he glanced between Jo and I. “So thank you for letting her go I guess.” He finished, looking down at his feet. I couldn’t help but smile, poor kid.
“Well it’s nice of you to ask her,” I replied before giving a glance to my sister, “Jo seems to really like you.” Her head snapped towards me, and she begins to stare daggers - guess I wasn’t supposed to say that. I shrug slightly and her face softens a bit.
“We should get going now,” Jo said, still looking at me, her tone cold.
“Yes,” Peter responded quickly, looking at me as well - though more in confusion. “What time should I bring her home?”
“1 am,” I heard Riff’s voice and my eyes went wide. My sister and I both turn to see him in the chair, staring at Jo’s tall date. He has his arms crossed across his chest and he’s sitting up straighter than usual. He turned his head to me and I watched his stern look soften momentarily before being replaced by a look of arrogance. A smirk on his face, he just shrugged at my shocked expression.
“Deal,” Jo yells happily, after watching our exchange.
“Woah woah woah,” I put my arm out, stopping her from leaving making her expression fall slightly. I looked at Peter and notice he was locked in a staring contest with the gang leader in the room. “Make sure she gets home safe,” I spoke to him a little softer, getting his attention.
“And don’t be late!” Riff calls out sternly, still eyeing Peter who was nodding profusely.
“Yeah, yeah yeah,” Jo lets out a sigh and heads out the door, dragging her date by the hand behind her as he sheepishly waved bye.
The door slammed and I could hear Riff start to laugh behind me. Even though the sound was beautiful, I couldn’t help but still be annoyed at him. I can’t believe he told them 1 am. I let out a frustrated groan and looked back towards where he was sitting, putting my hands on my hips. I closed my eyes and tried to take a deep breath, calming myself. I opened my eyes to see him smirking over at me, he has his legs up on the coffee table and hes lounging in the armchair.
“Problem, babe?” He asks looking at me, expectantly.
“1 am.” That’s all I could think to say back. “You told Jo and her date they can be out until 1 am. She’s never been out passed 11!” I practically yelled at him, the anger evident in my voice.
“Ya know,” he slowly stood up from the chair, smirk still present, “Ya look pretty hot when you’re angry, doll.”
“This isn’t funny, Riff! She’s 15, that’s too late.” I lowered my voice but the anger was still clear. He began to move closer to me and I mimicked his movements to avoid his grasp.
“To be fair,” He said, successfully grabbing my hand and pulling me into him. His other hand snuck around my waist and I could feel his breath on my skin. “The youngest Jet is 16.”
“That’s awful! You let kids in your gang? They could get hurt!”
“It’ll happen anyways! Better in a group than alone, if ya ask me,” he shrugged. “Besides, not everyone has a big sis to look out for ‘em.” I finally looked up to face him and he winked, “that’s where I come in. Keep ‘em in line and all that. Between you and me, they’re a wild bunch.”
I let out another groan, “Well your line might be different to mine. Jo shouldn’t be around all that stuff.” Riff nods in agreement, placing a kiss on my head. “I’m just worried someone might get the wrong idea if shes out too late, especially with a boy. But hey, at least it’s not a wild Jet.”
“Ya,” Riff said, letting out a laugh, “those guys are no good.” He smiled down at me, and I could feel my anger fading slightly. “Besides, Jo’s out with a square so ya don’t have to worry.”
I nodd in agreement, taking in his words. He’s probably right, Peter doesn’t seem like someone I’d need to worry about. And Jo is pretty tough. My thoughts are interupted by the feeling of Riff’s hands moving from my waist to my ass.
“But you my darlin’,” He speaks quietly, leaning in closer, “You’re goin’ out with a Jet tonight!” I swallow a lump in my throat, still not knowing what the night has in store. He begins to lightly plant kisses on my neck causing me to toss my head back. “Let’s not get too carried away,” He stops and I long for the contact again. “We should get goin’,” he says letting go of me and turning towards the door.
I let out a groan and follow him, dragging my feet slightly. Riff opened the door for me, giving my bum a smack as I walked through making me squeak. Trying to hide my smile and excitement, I pretend to scold him, which only made him laugh.
The sun was setting as Riff and I walked down an unknown street, in an unknown area. I quickened my pace slightly at an unknown sound behind us and Riff quickly caught up smiling.
“Relax,” He said smoothly, “no reason to worry ‘bout a thing.” He reached out and grabbed my hand, rubbing small circles with his thumb, relaxing me almost instantly.
“Riff,” I said, giving his arm a tug and signaling him to look at me. Our eyes meet, “you won’t let anything happen, right?” He stopped in his tracks, looking almost offended. His gaze softened and he smiled down at me, pulling me into a dance position.
“Ain’t nothin’ gunna happen,” he placed a light kiss one my nose. “Well nothing bad at least,” he said, smirking. He swayed us slightly, as if we were dancing and I couldn’t help but giggle. “I got you, girly girl.” I smiled back, and we continued our walk hand in hand.
Riff guided me further through the city and the park until we came to a bridge. Letting go of my hand, he walked over to the edge and gazed in the water. I watched as he sat on the edge, feet dangling over, gesturing for me to join him. I walked over to the side and looked at the water before sitting down myself.
“I come here to think a lot,” he said, sighing quietly to himself. “It’s one of the few quiet places I know.” He looks deep in thought and I can’t help but admire his looks. The way his blue eyes sparkle in the moon light, how his arms flex with every movement, the way his brow furrowed in thought. I could stare at him all day. Our eyes lock and I feel my face flush as he leans in, connecting our lips briefly. I slid my body closer to him, wanting to reconnect our lips but Riff turned his head to look at the water.. I can see him smirking as I gently place my hand on his thigh. He quickly catches it in his own hand and interlocks our fingers, chuckling lightly.
“Always so eager,” he said teasingly. He leaned up taller and looked around us to make sure there was no one near. “Maybe just a little sample for now, ya?” Suddenly his hands are on my waist, massaging my hips before moving lower to my ass.
“Just a little one,” I giggled back. I leaned in closer and began to place light kisses on his neck, earning a soft moan in response. My kisses turned into little nibbles and I heard another moan escape Riff’s lips. Moving my hand over his pants, I could feel he was already hard. Smirking, I looked up into his blue eyes, “now who’s eager?”
“Oh it’s still you babe,” he replied, letting out a light laugh before moving me to his lap. My legs wrapped around his torso to prevent us from tipping over into the water below. I let out a moan, feeling his member push against my pussy gently. “See?” He asked, smirking down at me.
I connected our lips with as much force as I could. Riff quickly matched my passion, his grip on my hips tightening. I began to grind against him, the friction making my panties wet. His hands moved from my hips to my thighs, now bare since my dress has risen up slightly. Gripping the fabric, he pulled my dress up more, exposing my lower half. Next he slid a finger over my panties, teasing me before moving them to the side, giving himself access.
“Riff,” I moaned out. “What if someone sees us?” I asked in almost a whisper, wishing I could just forget that we were in a very public place.
“Relax, doll,” he leaned in to whisper in my ear, “just try to stay quiet and we’ll be fine.” Before I could protest further, I felt him insert a finger into my folds, massaging the area gently. Another moan escaped my lips and his hand quickly found its way to my mouth, covering it to prevent any sound. I began to move my hips, grinding on his fingers and closing my eyes in pleasure.
Riff moved his fingers expertly around my pussy and onto my clit, making my legs shake. I came hard and fast, while he peppered my neck with more kisses and gave me another hickey. Our lips connected again, but this time he kissed me softer, moving his hands to grip my waist before he lifted me off his lap, setting me down beside him.
“Wow,” I whispered, leaning into him, my legs felt like jelly but all I wanted was more. “You sure you don’t just want to go back?” I asked looking up at him, through my eyelashes, “we have the place to ourselves.”
“Very tempting,” he said looking down at me, a smirk plastered on his face. He stood up and extended his hand for me, which I graciously accepted, letting him pull me to my feet. I took a moment to fix my dress and smooth out my hair. Riff slipped his arm around me and turned us around to face the path again. He led us in a new direction, “we at least gotta make an appearance.”
I stopped moving at his words. An appearance? What does that mean? I felt a lump grow in my throat and my palms began to sweat. I did my best to remain calm but he definitely could tell I was off. He took this time to pull out a cigarette, lighting it in his mouth and taking a long drag. I watched as he wafted the smoke cloud away with his hand, clearing his view of me.
“Where are we going?” My voice came out shaky and I mentally hit myself for sounding so weak.
“It’s not a big deal,” he started, “the boys are waitin’ to see what the plan is.” My shoulders tensed and I looked down at my shoes so he wouldn’t see the panic in my eyes. Riff quickly hopped in front of me, forcing me to look at him, “we won’t be long.” He shrugged, “I show up, let them yell at each other, yell at them myself,” his arm slid back around my shoulder, “then since nothin’ is goin on, I’ll let Ice takeover so me and you can make our get-away.” Returning to my side, he took another drag. “Piece a cake!”
I nodded slightly, not wanting him to hear the worry in my voice again. We walked the rest of the way, mostly in silence. Riff every so often would try to reassure me it would be fine, say things like; some of the Jets usually bring their girlfriends, they’d hardly notice.
It wasn’t long before I could hear the hooting and hollering of what I assumed was The Jets. A smile grew on Riff’s face as the sound got louder, I felt his arm move off my shoulder. I looked at him with wide eyes and quickly grabbed a hold of his hand. I heard him chuckle, looking down at our now interlocking hands and bringing them to his lips, placing a soft kiss on my hand.
“Are you sure about this?” The words came out fast.
“You scared?” Riff was now staring into my eyes, searching for an answer. My face got hot again and I had to look away from his gaze.
“Yes,” I said firmly. I looked back up to see an unreadable expression on his face. He finished off the last of his smoke and threw it on the ground. “But,” his head snapped back to me, “I trust you.” I placed a kiss on his lips quickly, surprising him and causing me to smirk. I wrapped my arm around his neck, “So like I said before, are you sure about this? Because if you’re sure, so am I.”
“I’m sure,” he smiles down at me, his hands finding their usual spot on my hips. “Besides my hands will be on ya the whole time,” he leans in closer, “no one is goin’ to bother ya with me around.”
I smile at his words, giving him a quick kiss before going back to just holding hands. We walked closer to the group and my stomach started doing flips. This is it.

Chapter 4: Getting Good at Waiting
I woke up to find myself alone. The sunlight poured in through my window, causing me to roll away.  I had almost convinced myself that last night was a dream, the way his hands felt on my body, the way our tongues danced together. It was too perfect to be real, or at least that’s what I thought until I was face to face with my mirror. My hands instinctively went to touch the dark mark on my neck, it was real but he was gone. Boy am I stupid.
“That’s it, Maggie,” I scolded myself, “sleep with the gang leader you just met, that’ll work out fine.” I can’t believe how stupid I was. I quickly get dressed, tossing my hair into a ponytail before turning to look at the bed, hands on my hips. I exhaled, taking in the sight of tangled sheets and disheveled pillows. I wonder when he left.
“Margaret!” Jo’s voice quickly pulled me out of my thoughts. I leave my room, closed the door behind me, and made my way over to where she stood by the stove. “I made you eggs.”
“That’s nice,” I say eyeing Jo suspiciously, “What do you want?”
She lets out a gasp “What do you mean? I’m just being nice.” She transfers the egg onto a plate smoothly, without making eye contact.
“Well then thank you,” I smirk slightly before grabbing the plate and going to sit at the table.
“I was thinking though,” I try not to laugh at Jo’s words - there's always something with her. She quickly joined me at the table, “there’s this dance.”
I nod slightly, beginning to eat my egg, “Let me guess, you want Mr. Wonderful from last night to take you.”
“Yes!” she exclaimed loudly, causing me to smile over at her, “Well actually he already asked, and I already said yes,” Her voice trailed off at the end, looking down at the table.
“Well,” I started, “If you already said yes,”
“Oh my god!” Jo shrieked making me jump, as she threw her arms around me. “Thank you thank you thank you!” I laughed as she jumped around our small kitchen. I finished my breakfast to the sound of Jo rambling about what to wear later until I managed to usher her out of the apartment.
We walked the 3 blocks it was to the subway station, and I waved her off like usual as she hopped on to get to school. It was unseasonably cold this morning and I couldn’t help but shiver as I walked back up to the top of the stairs.
“So I guess I was too late to catch ya this mornin’,” I looked over my shoulder to see where the voice came from and saw Riff. Looking as casual as ever, leaning on the stairway railing with a smoke in hand. “Or do ya always wake up so early?”
I scoffed, “Well someone’s gotta make sure Jo gets to school. Besides clearly you were in a rush to get out of there” I continued walking a few more steps before turning back towards him, he looked a little stunned at my words. “So are you coming or what?” I asked laughing slightly as he caught up quickly.
“I uh really thought I’d be back before ya woke,” I heard him mumble beside me, his hand went up to rub the back of his neck. “I had some business to take care of last night.”
“I get it,” letting a smirk appear on my face and nodding slightly, I continued to look at the ground as I spoke, “I’m sure being a juvenile delinquent is harder than it looks.”
He chuckled quietly, “Well it definitely has its perks,” he hopped in front of me, stopping me from walking. Smiling down at me, his blue eyes glistening in the sunlight, “I’m always free to walk ya round, girly girl.” He slid an arm around my waist pulling me into him.
“I can’t exactly walk like this,” I say looking up at him, feeling my cheeks redden at our proximity. Leaning down slightly, I watched as his gaze left my eyes and were now looking at where my hair rested on my neck. He slowly moved his hand up to my neck, brushing the hair over my shoulder with his fingertips, I watched a smirk appear as he noticed the hickey he gave me.
“Ya shouldn’t cover this up,” his fingers began to trace the mark lightly before he leaned down to whisper in my ear, “how am I supposed to show the fellas you’re my girl?” My breath hitched at his words before I found my confidence again, pushing him off me lightly.
“Who said I’m your girl?” I smirked up at him, moving around him quickly to continue the walk. I heard him laugh from behind me before he pulled me back into his chest so fast that I almost fell over in the process.
“I say, doll,” He smirked down at me again and I could feel the butterflies in my stomach. “You ain’t gettin’ rid of me that fast. Not after last night.” My face got hot at his words and I looked down at the ground. He pulled my face up to look at his, not letting me avert my gaze again.
We stayed like that for what felt like an eternity until I felt something bump into us both. Riff whipped his head around to see some paperboy riding his bike away, faster than I’d ever seen before. I could tell he was going to yell something, so I put my hands upon his chest, grabbing his shirt, and pulling his attention back to me.
“It’s some kid,” I said looking at his stern face melt slightly at my words, “I’m sure he didn’t mean it.” He nodded lightly, looking back in the kid’s direction to see that he was no longer in view, taking a long drag of his smoke before exhaling. I laughed, causing him to raise an eyebrow at me, “Are you always like this?”
“Like what?”
“Ready to punch someone at all times?” I asked laughing again, causing him to smile back at me.
“Well if a pretty girl is involved, I can’t help it,” His grip on me tightened lightly, “besides I didn’t hit anybody.” His expression changed momentarily and his blue eyes began to search my green ones. “Don’t wanna scare ya off too early, do I?”
“I don’t scare easy,” I said almost surprising myself at the response. I smiled up at him, “You’re going to make me late for work.”
He scoffed in response, “How abouts ya stay with me instead, I'll show ya the city.”
“As tempting as that is,” I say letting out a soft groan, “I have to go.” I pushed him lightly again and he nodded, reaching down to grab my hand before walking us off in the direction of my work.
—----------------------------------------------------
“Have you been here all day?” I asked with a smile, noticing Riff waiting for me outside of the building. He pretended to look offended before he offered me his arm, which I gladly took. I couldn’t help but notice the looks we got from people as we made our way through the city. “Do people always stare at you?”
“Not at me babe,” He said smirking, “they’re all lookin’ at you.” I took in his words. Looking around us on the street, I noticed he was right, they were all staring at me and avoiding Riff’s gaze completely.
“You have quite the effect on people.” He let out a laugh and shook his head lightly. I continued to watch as Riff kept his eyes focused in front of him, people dodged out of our way. I could definitely get used to this.
“So what’s the plan tonight girly girl?” He asked as we approached the apartment, “Are ya in need of an escort again?”
“I wouldn’t get your hopes up, Jo has plans,” I respond stopping in front of the building and turning to face him, watching him nod slightly at my words, “I’ll be in for the night.”
A smirk returned to his face, “So I guess you wouldn’t mind some company later?”
“We’ll see,” I said walking away back towards the door. He eyed me up and down and I watched as he placed his hands on his hips.
“You’re not going to make this easy for me are ya, doll?”
I laughed lightly, “You’ll have to wait and see.” I turn around, unlocking the door smoothly with my key.
“See that’s the problem,” he called out after me, “I’ve never been too good at the waitin’ part.”
I turned around smiling at him, “There’s plenty of time to get good at that,” I blew a kiss before entering the apartment and watched as he shook his head at me, still smirking while I closed the door.
