Felix would probably keep sneaking in a bunch of stuffed animals and things into the nursery every day until you caught him lol!
Oh he'd definitely secretly buy one or two little things each day and then hide them in a random spare big closet until you're both ready to start building furniture for the nursery and then he makes you close your eyes and is like "don't be mad but i have something to show you" and then he brings you to the big closet and you see BAGS AND BAGS of baby things he's been secretly buying and you're just like 😲 "FELIX! She doesn't NEED all this! Just because we can doesn't mean we should!" and he looks at you with that beautiful smile and does his signature "I'm cute" face that he knows works EVERYTIME with those big brown eyes and he's like "that's EXACTLY why we should! Our baby is going to be a princess! She should be treated like one!" and we just sigh because there's no way we're gonna win the "she should not be spoiled" argument since Felix was raised getting WHATEVER he wanted, there's no other way he knows. And we also just LOVE how the baby isn't even born yet and we can see Felix already loves them SO MUCH

Venetia rushed to the window of her bedroom as she heard the car carrying her brother pulling up the drive. The family had been made aware that Felix was bringing a friend home for the summer. Not that anyone had to tell them. Felix often had a new sad sack in tow whenever he came home from school, who would never be seen again once they returned to school at the end of the summer. Venetia had tried to get some information on this new friend from Farleigh, but her cousin said he hadn't seen anyone new hanging out with Felix during the school year. She was itching to get a peak at Felix's newest toy.
She gasped and turned to Farleigh, who was looking at her in curiosity. "It's a girl!"
(Y/N) stepped out of the car as Felix excitedly talked away. She looked at the giant house with wide eyes. She knew Felix had money; his parents were paying his way through college after all, meanwhile (Y/N) was a scholarship kid. But she never could've imagined he was this level of rich. His house was a goddamn castle!
She was wondering if it was too late to back out of Felix's offer to stay over.
An older man dressed in a black suit opened the front door as (Y/N) and Felix approached. (Y/N) stopped suddenly as the man's glare landed on her.
"Duncan!" Felix exclaimed. "How are you, you serious old brute?"
"Good to see you, master Felix. This is your new...friend?"
The way he said it made (Y/N) wince.
Felix turned to her and threw an arm around her shoulders. "Don't be frightened, (Y/N). This is my family butler, Duncan. He looks terrifying, but his bark is worse than his bite."
(Y/N) tried to smile at Duncan, but he merely continued to stare her down. She shrunk into Felix's embrace, which, luckily, the taller boy noticed her discomfort and brought her into the house. With his arm still around her, Felix brought (Y/N) around the giant house. There was so much to see, so much to know. There was simply no way she'd remember it all. She expected to get lost just trying to get to the bathroom.
Luckily, that wouldn't be a problem at least, as Felix led her into his room. "Your room is just through here. We'll be sharing a bathroom. Hope you don't mind."
She was glad he wasn't facing her so he missed the look on her face at his statement.
Felix threw the door to her room open with a flourish before turning to her. "And this is where you'll be staying. Don't worry about unpacking, the butlers will do that for you. It has a nice view of the garden and such, and I'm just next door past the bathroom, as you've already seen."
He flopped down onto her bed and stretched out so he was taking up the entire bed. (Y/N) pushed his leg over a bit so she could sit next to him. "It's a lot to take in."
"I know," Felix said. He rolled onto his side to look up at her. "It'll feel like a lot, but I promise my family will love you. And if it gets overwhelming, I'll be here."
He put his hand on her leg. She looked down at it, the heat from where his hand was touching rising from that spot all the way up to her face. Her entire body felt like it had been ignited by a simple gesture to try and bring her comfort. She wondered if Felix knew what he did to her.
She tried not to let her disappointment show as Felix stood, removing his hand from her leg.
"I'll let you unwind or whatever," he said. "Dinner isn't until 5, so you have plenty of time to yourself until then. You brought a dress, right?" She nodded. "Good. Mum and dad insist on fancy dinner wear. It's a little embarrassing. I'll be in my room if you need anything."
And just like that, he was gone. (Y/N) sighed and fell back onto the bed.
This definitely was not how she expected to spend her summer. She had started her time at Oxford as an outcast, a scholarship loser among a sea of rich kids. She tired not to let it get to her. Getting into Oxford at all was a big deal, (Y/N) knew to be proud of that. But that didn't make the whispers and dirty looks directed towards her any easier to take.
She didn't seek out friendship with anyone, let alone with Felix. Of course, she had noticed Felix. Who wouldn't? He was beautiful and had charm for days. Everyone loved him. But (Y/N) knew better than to try and approach him. They were from two completely different worlds, and (Y/N) knew she didn't belong in his world.
To her surprise, it was Felix who initiated first contact.
They were in an English class together. Felix had sat next to her one day and asked, "Did you finish the reading for today?" (Y/N) was so shocked that he had spoken to her that she could only nod in response. "Can you summarize it for me? I tried to read it but it was so fucking boring."
Apparently, that one act of kindness was enough to consider (Y/N) a friend. Felix invited her to sit with him at the bar, to come study in his room, to go to the "invite only" parties on campus. His other rich friends didn't seem to enjoy her company, but he did and that's all that mattered.
When (Y/N) told Felix she had nowhere to go for the summer, he invited her to come stay with him and his family in Saltburn. He refused to take no for an answer. So now here she was, in a bedroom that only had a bathroom to separate her and the boy she had started developing feelings for but knew she couldn't have, in a house the size of a castle owned by a family who mad more money than she'd ever see in her life.
She let out another sigh for good measure before sitting up. She still had plenty of time before dinner, but she wanted to make sure she was presentable to meet Felix's family for the first time. She got up and went to the bathroom, locking the door that led to Felix's room just in case. There was no shower, so she had to opt for a bath. She tried to be quick, but once she had laid in the oversized tub and allowed the hot water to engulf her, she never wanted to get out. Maybe she could spend the entire summer in the tub instead of dealing with Felix's family.
When the water began to go cold, she reluctantly got out and returned to her room. She had packed the limited amount of makeup she owned just in case there were any formal gatherings she needed to dress up for. Now she was definitely glad she had if dinner was meant to be a formal thing. She did her makeup carefully to make sure it was perfect, then dug through her bag for the dress she had packed. It wasn't anything super fancy, just a royal blue, off the shoulder dress with a pleated skirt that came down just above the knee. It was the nicest dress she owned, so eh hoped it would suffice.
There was still some time before dinner, but (Y/N) figured it was time to meet the family.
She stepped out of her room and realized she had no idea where to go to find the dining room.
"Need help?"
(Y/N) jumped and turned to see Duncan stood, blank faced yet again, looking at her,
"Yes please," she responded, her voice soft.
"Follow me," Duncan told her. He didn't wait to see if she was following, she she quickly troted along behind him to keep up.
The Catton family was sat around the dinner table already when Duncan led (Y/N) into the room. All eyes turned to her when she walked in. She suddenly felt very self conscious and wished she was back in the hot, welcoming bath tub.
Until she caught Felix looking at her as if she were the most beautiful thing he had ever laid his eyes on.
"Oh, Felix, darling," an older woman sat at the head of the table - Felix's mom - said. "She is absolutely beautiful."
His mom stood from her seat and quickly approached (Y/N). She gently cupped (Y/N)'s cheeks. (Y/N) tensed, unsure of what to do. Mrs. Catton didn't seem to notice, or if she did she didn't let on.
"Honey, you didn't tell us how beautiful she was," Mrs. Catton said to her son.
"You never believe me," Felix retorted.
Mrs. Catton turned back to (Y/N). "Welcome, darling. We're very happy to have you here. You can call me Lady Elspeth." She took (Y/N)'s hands and squeezed them, then gestured towards the table. "We left a seat free next to Felix for you. Come, sit. Dinner will be served soon."
(Y/N) quickly moved to the table, oping to no longer be the center of attention. Felix was still smiling at her as she sat down next to him.
"You do look beautiful," he said.
Her face started heating up. "Thank you."
Across from them, a throat cleared. Felix glanced up at his cousin. (Y/N) didn't miss the subtle change in Felix's expression. "(Y/N), this is my cousin, Farleigh, and my sister, Venetia."
"Oh, I know Farleigh," she said, looking over at the other young man. He gave her an obviously forced smile. "I-I mean, I know of Farleigh. I've seen you around on campus."
"Weird that I haven't seen you. It's not like Felix to hide his friends away," Farleigh said.
"I wasn't hiding her away." Felix's face was tense. (Y/N) wondered what the story between him and Farleigh was. They seemed to get along well on campus, or at least Farleigh was in Felix's friend group.
Dinner was served, thus breaking up the tense moment. A plate was placed in front of everyone and they all began to eat. (Y/N) tried not to draw too much attention to herself, but she knew her presence alone was drawing attention. Both Farleigh and Venetia weren't very subtle with the way they were staring at her.
"So, (Y/N)," Elspeth said after a few moments of silence, "what is it you're studying at Oxford?"
"English," (Y/N) responded. "I'd like to be a writer when I graduate, but I know that's not an entirely realistic dream so I'm aiming to be an English teacher as a backup."
"Oh, writing! That's wonderful, darling!" Elspeth said. (Y/N) was somewhat shocked that Elspeth seemed genuine with her interest. "Have you written anything yet?"
"A few short stories." She shrugged. "Nothing major."
"'Nothing major'?" Felix questioned. "She's won contests with her short stories! Remember, you told me one of your stories was published in an anthology of short stories when you were still in high school?"
Elspeth and Felix's dad, Sir James, were impressed, while (Y/N) was surprised that Felix had remembered her telling him that. He was smiling down at her in pride and she couldn't help but smile back at him.
"Is that how you got your scholarship?" Farleigh asked. The look on his face told (Y/N) that his question wasn't as genuine as Elspeth's had been.
"Farleigh," Felix sneered.
"What? I was just asking. It's not like it's a secret that she's a scholarship kid. There's no shame in needing some financial help."
"You would know, wouldn't you?"
"Boys," James said, his voice stern in warning.
Dinner fell quiet after that. (Y/N) pushed her food around her plate, suddenly no longer hungry. She was back to wishing she could melt away into the floor and never be seen again. Maybe it wasn't too late to just go back to the school and stay in the dorms alone for the summer.
Once she had finished eating, she politely excused herself and went back to her room. She had paid enough attention when Duncan showed her to the dining room that she made it back with no issue. The minute the door closed behind her, she let out a sigh. A lump had started to form in her throat, but she was refusing to let herself cry. Even now while she was alone, she didn't want to give in to these feelings. She had to be strong, at least until she could get her things together and figure out a way back to the school.
As Felix had told her, the butlers had unpacked her bag while she was at dinner. It took her a moment to find her pajamas and makeup remover. She pulled on an oversized shirt she had packed to wear on the warm nights and was leaned over the dresser to start taking off her makeup, the shirt riding up just enough, when the door connecting her and Felix suddenly opened. Felix walked in, still in his suit from dinner, except he had removed his tie and the top few buttons had been undone. (Y/N) quickly stood up straight, pulling her shirt down to cover her ass.
"Don't you knock?" she asked.
"No, why would I?" he said.
"What if I was changing?"
"You weren't."
She rolled her eyes and went back to taking her makeup off, this time more cautious about how much of her was being exposed with Felix in the room.
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry about how Farleigh acted during dinner," Felix said.
(Y/N) paused for a moment. She glanced at Felix through the mirror. He was looking up at her with an expression that told her his apology was genuine.
"It's alright," she said.
"No, it wasn't alright. He shouldn't be saying those things about you. It's not like he's much different. My parents have financially supported him for years and let him stay here for free. At least you earned your scholarship, he only got his way in life because of his family."
"So did you, though." There was a beat, and (Y/N) quickly turned to face Felix. "Wait, I didn't mean - "
"No, you're right," he cut her off. "My parents have financially helped me, too. You're the only one among us who has really earned your spot at Oxford. It's not fair of Farleigh to try and make you feel small because you come from a different background."
(Y/N) wanted to tell him it wasn't just Farleigh, it was everyone at Oxford. Even Felix's own friend group had shunned (Y/N) when he introduced her to them. It felt like Felix was the only one who truly wanted to befriend (Y/N).
"You don't have to apologize for him," she said instead. "But I appreciate that you'd want to."
"You're my friend. I didn't bring you here to be insulted by my obnoxious cousin, I brought you here because I wanted you to spend the summer with us."
Friend.
Even though she knew that's all they were, it still stung to hear him say it. She wanted so much more than that, but it was wishful thinking to believe that Felix cause ever want more than that.
"I...I think I'm gonna just...get in bed."
He raised an eyebrow at her. "It's still only early."
"I know. All the travel just has me feeling pretty worn out."
"Okay."
He stood and (Y/N) expected him to go back to his room. When he started to unbutton his shirt more, her eyes nearly popped out of her head.
"What are you doing?!"
"I was going to stay over here tonight. If you were okay with that, that is."
"You're supposed to ask these things before you just start undressing."
Felix chuckled as (Y/N) turned her back to him. "You really don't want to watch as I undress?"
Of course I want to watch! "I'm just...trying to be courteous."
He laughed again. (Y/N) could hear the sounds of his clothes hitting the floor. She wondered why he hadn't at least gone back to his room to get a pair of pajamas. At least pajama pants. She was starting to get the feeling that at home, Felix didn't have to ask many questions, and that also extended towards his guests.
"Okay, I am covered."
When she turned back, he was under the covers of her bed, his hands behind his head so she could see that he was at least shirtless under there.
"The bed is big enough for us to share," he said, reading the shocked look on her face. "That is, again, if you don't mind."
"N-No. I-I guess that's fine."
(Y/N) crawled into bed next to Felix. She tried to put as much distance between the two of them as she could but, despite what Felix said, the bed certainly was not that big. She could still feel the heat from his body as she turned onto her side, her back to him. She could feel his nearness. And she could feel the fact that he was only wearing his boxers.
"You don't have to stay, you know," she said. "I'm not going to slip away during the night or something."
He bed shook a little as he laughed. "I know. I just wanted to stay over here. At the very least, I want to make sure you don't have any issues sleeping. I always find I struggle when I'm trying to sleep in a new place."
(Y/N) rolled onto her other side so that she could face Felix. The full moon was shining through the window, illuminating his face. He turned his head to look down at her.
"I really appreciate everything you've done for me, Felix," she said, her voice so soft it was nearly a whisper.
He smiled. "Get some sleep, (Y/N). I don't intend on having a boring day tomorrow if the weather is nice."
~~~~~~
When (Y/N) woke up the next morning, she completely forgot where she was. The bed was far too soft to be the one in her dorm at Oxford, and it was certainly too hot to be just a normal day during the schooling semester.
Not to mention the fact that there was a body laying under her.
(Y/N)'s eyes snapped open as she realized her head was resting on Felix's chest, and his arm around wrapped around her. At some point in the night, they must've shifted so that they were cuddling. (Y/N) wasn't sure if she should pull away or stay where she was. What would Felix's reaction be when he woke up and found them both in such a compromising position?
A knock came at her door. "Miss. (Y/N)?"
It was Duncan's voice. Now she was definitely panicking.
"Just checking if you're awake," he added.
"Uh...yeah! I am Duncan!" she called back.
"Breakfast is being served in ten minutes. Do wake up master Felix and let him know as well. His mother will want him to punctual since she didn't get as much time with him last night."
Her face burned. She wondered if Duncan knew Felix was in here with her, or if he meant for her to go over to Felix's room to wake him.
The sound of footsteps retreating down the hallway told her that Duncan had walked away. She let out a breath, relaxing into Felix's side yet again. She felt him move beneath her and she quickly pulled out of his arms before he started to wake up.
She was shocked at how beautiful he looked in the morning. The same perfect beauty he had when he fell asleep. Not a single hair out of place, no drool on his lips, no sleepy gunk in his eyes. It was really unfair just how perfect he really was.
His eyes slowly blinked open and he smiled when he saw (Y/N) looking down at him. "Good morning."
"Morning," she said. "Uh, Duncan was just here. He said breakfast is in ten minutes."
Felix groaned. "I don't want to get up yet. Why does mum have to have breakfast so early?"
(Y/N) looked at the clock hung on the wall. "It's almost 10am."
"Far too early to wake up in the summer."
She couldn't help but chuckle a little. Felix stretched his arms out and sat up as well. His face was suddenly very close to hers, almost too close.
"I suppose I should get ready for breakfast then," he said.
"Is there any dress code for breakfast?"
He shook his head. "Not for breakfast, but the dress code for today's events is a bathing suit. Once we finish eating, I'm taking you down to the lake."
~~~~~~
A few hours later, (Y/N) was following Felix towards the lake next to his house. It was a scorching hot day outside. One that was definitely better spent in the cooling water instead of cooped up inside.
Farleigh and Venetia were already by the lake. Farleigh was laid back on a towel, reading some book, while Venetia was sat by the lake with her feet in the water. She looked over her shoulder as she heard the two approach and smiled.
"Well, here they are!" she announced. "Finally you're here."
"Pull up a towel," Farleigh said, not looking up from his book.
(Y/N) went to sit on the grass, but Venetia called, "Not you! You're joining me down here. I've been surrounded by this testosterone for far too long."
She wasn't about to argue. She was already coated in sweat just from walking down from the house. (Y/N) sat beside Venetia and placed her feet in the water. The sudden cold was like a shock to her system, but definitely a welcome one.
"So, (Y/N)," Venetia said, "tell me, how did you and my brother meet?"
"We were in class together," (Y/N) responded. "I helped him with an assigned reading he had trouble with."
"Saved my ass from failing that surprise test the professor gave us," Felix added.
"It wasn't a surprise, he told us about it the class before," (Y/N) said.
"I wasn't there that class, so it was a surprise to me."
"Was that the day you were too hungover after a dorm party on a Sunday night?" Farleigh asked.
"A Sunday?!" (Y/N) laughed.
"It was a surprise party for one of my friends in the dorm," Felix responded. "He had gone home for the weekend so we had to have the party that Sunday. I didn't plan to get fucked up that night."
"You never do," Farleigh commented.
"What about your family, (Y/N)?" Venetia interrupted. "Are they okay with you spending your summer with a load of strangers?"
Felix opened his mouth to deter his sister from asking, but (Y/N) cut him off by saying, "My parents are dead."
A silence fell over them. Venetia looked a mixture of horrified and sad. Farleigh lowered his book to look over at (Y/N). Felix was trying not to look at any of them while (Y/N) was fixing her attention on the water in front of her. She was running her feet back and forth, disrupting the otherwise calm water.
"They died when I was ten," she continued. "Car accident, drunk driver. I've lived with my grandparents since then, but my grandpa died a year ago and my gran is starting to develop dementia. When I got accepted into Oxford, I made a deal with the Dean that I could stay on campus during the summers until I could afford my own place."
Venetia looked like she was about to cry. (Y/N) suddenly wished she had lied and made up some story about her parents.
"Way to ruin the moon, V," Farleigh commented.
"I didn't know!" Venetia retorted.
"No, it's fine," (Y/N) cut off their bickering. "It's tough, but I've had years to come to terms with all the death, and gran is in a nursing home now so she's being taken care of. I don't want anyone to tip toe around me like I'm made of glass."
As if to make her point, (Y/N) pushed off the edge of the lake and into the water. She shrieked as the cold engulfed her. Venetia followed suit, and soon enough both of them had convinced Farleigh and Felix to get into the water as well. The conversation was long forgotten as they swam around, splashing one another as if they were children.
~~~~~~
That night, (Y/N) was sat in the garden underneath her bedroom window. With the sun gone down, the air had cooled off, but only slightly. The room was still too stuffy for her, and opening the window just made it worse, so she opted to sit out in the cool air before she tried to sleep again.
Footsteps approached and she expected it to be Felix. When she turned, she was surprised to see Venetia instead, dressed in a sheer nightgown and carrying a lit cigarette between her fingers.
"Mind if I sit?" Venetia asked.
"I feel like I should be the one asking you that, considering it's your house."
Venetia chuckled and sat next to her.
(Y/N)'s first impression of Venetia had been wrong, and she was kind of glad it had been. She thought that, like Farleigh, Venetia was also going to be a little catty and condescending towards her. But after their day by the lake, she felt a sort of kinship with Venetia. They were the only two young girls at Saltburn, they had to look out for one another at the very least.
"So, how are you enjoying your stay so far?" Venetia asked.
"It's lovely here," (Y/N) said. "Much better than spending the summer at the Oxford campus along. At least there's a lot of the house to explore, and at least two people who seem to want me here."
"Three, if you count mum. She's ecstatic to have you. If you're not careful, she might just try and adopt you."
"I wouldn't complain."
Venetia took a drag from her cigarette and blew the smoke into the air. "And, um...has Felix been treating you well?"
(Y/N) looked over at her with confusion. "I'd...say more than well. Why?"
"I just..." Venetia leaned over, resting her arms against her legs. "I'm not saying this to try and scare you or anything. I truly like you, (Y/N), and I just want to warn you because I know how my brother is. He often takes someone who is a little more...damaged than him under his wing and brings them back here for a few months. But once the summer ends, or once he's lost interest, he casts them aside for whatever new shiny toy catches his attention."
Venetia's words hit (Y/N) like a ton of bricks. She had been telling herself for months since meeting Felix that their friendship was too good to be true, that he was going to realize he was making a mistake and move on. But when he didn't, when he asked her back to his house for the summer, she thought that maybe she was wrong. Maybe he actually did care for her and wanted to be friends with her. She had a tiny glimmer of hope that maybe this summer would bring them closer together, that they could become more than just friends.
If anyone would know how Felix was, it would be Venetia. She was his sister. She had seen a lifetime of the way Felix acted with friends. If she was warning her of the possibility that Felix might toss her aside once the summer ended, then she felt inclined to believe Venetia.
"Again, I'm not telling you this as a way to make you upset," Venetia added. "Trust me, I want nothing more than for you to stay with us for the summer. I just really do not want you to get hurt if that's what happens with Felix."
Tears were forming in (Y/N)'s eyes again. She was having a harder time at fighting them than the night before after all Farleigh had said to her. She quickly stood and murmured a "goodnight" to Venetia before rushing back inside the house. She got to her bedroom just in time for the tears to start falling.
Stupid! You're so stupid for thinking you belonged here in his world. You're nothing more than a charity case for him!
(Y/N) sunk to the floor and buried her head in her hands. She cried and cried until the tears dried up and she was essentially dry sobbing. Her eyes felt heavy and her body was aching from being on the floor for so long. She just wanted to go to back to the school and pretend this entire trip never happened.
When she finally coaxed herself to stand, (Y/N) went to the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth before bed. She looked at herself in the mirror and winced. Her eyes were swollen and red, her cheeks were flush, and there were tear stains on her cheeks from crying. She grabbed a face cloth and wet it down with warm water. Before she could start wiping her face, the door leading to Felix's room opened. She froze, the wet cloth in her hands.
"Hey," Felix said. She thought for a moment that he hadn't noticed her state, until suddenly he was beside her. "What happened? Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," she said, wincing again at the sound of her horse voice.
"You don't look or sound fine."
She began to wipe her face, trying to ignore Felix's presence. As she rinsed the face cloth again, she said, "I think I'm going to call the Dean tomorrow to ask if my room is still available at the school, then look into getting the next train back to Oxford as soon as possible."
"What? Why? I thought you wanted to stay."
(Y/N) shook her head. "I don't belong here, Felix. This is your world, not mine. I'm just the girl with dead parents and a scholarship, struggling to figure out how or if I'll ever be financially stable enough to live on my own once the school kicks me out."
"What did Farleigh say to you?"
"It wasn't Farleigh!" she snapped, finally turning to face him. "It was Venetia! She told me that you don't let people stick around for long. That you take in the charity cases and toss them aside when you're bored. And I knew that's what was happening with me, I knew there was no way you could possibly want to be friends with me, but I was also stupid enough to let myself believe that maybe it was all real. That maybe you actually cared and you actually wanted me here!"
She was crying again. She must've looked and sounded insane. She wished she had never accepted Felix's offer to come here. She could only imagine what he would say about her when she left the next day.
"I'm not staying here and waiting to be hurt, Felix," she said. "You may think it's fun to toy with people's emotions, but I don't. Not when I trusted you in telling you about my parents, about my stories, about my sad little poor life."
She had more to say, although she wasn't sure if any of it would've made sense, but Felix cut her off before she could. He took hold of her face and pulled her in for a kiss. It surprised her at first and she pulled away almost immediately. He looked down at her, worried, like he was scared he had just crossed a line. When her brain finally caught up to what was happening, she quickly leaned back in to kiss him again.
Her hands held on to his shirt while one of his still cupped her face and the other started to move down her body. With one quick movement, he had lifted her up onto the counter and wrapped her legs around his waist. Her hands moved to tangle into his hair. His tongue moved across her bottom lip, silently asking for entrance to her mouth. She realized he was commando under his pajama pants when she felt him pressed against her, the only layer between being her panties as she was once again in the oversized shirt she had worn the night before.
Felix broke away first. She tried to follow him, but he held her back, a playful grin on his face.
"I don't want you to go," he said. "I want you here. Not just for this summer, but every summer from now on. I want you in my dorm room back at school, and eventually in my own place when we finish with school. I want you, (Y/N). You're not some toy to me."
"How long have you felt like this?" she asked.
"Since before I spoke to you in class that first day."
"Why did you wait so long to tell me?"
"I kept chickening out. Every girl I've been with has only wanted me for my money, or my looks, or both. No one has ever really cared for me as a person. When you did, it almost intimidated me. I needed to know for sure you'd be here for the long run, so I brought you home to see how you'd react to everything."
"Am I passing the test?"
He chuckled and kissed her again. "With flying colors."
She couldn't get enough of him; of his lips, his smile, his body against hers, his hands on her. She wanted all of him all the time. She suddenly never wanted to leave either of their rooms for the rest of the summer.
"You can still go back to school if you feel uncomfortable here. I wouldn't blame you there," he said. "But if you're going back, I'm coming with you."
She shook her head. "I couldn't take you away from your family."
"Then stay. I want you to be here, too. I want to be with you."
She grinned cheekily back at him. "If you're going to beg, you should be on your knees at least."
He raised an eyebrow at her. "If that's what you want."
She wanted all of him all the time, but she decided not to say that just yet. She was still a little cautious. She had to make sure Felix meant what he was saying, even if she felt deep down that he was. He needed to prove himself to her before she opened up that much to him.
But for now, she would definitely take the sight of him on his knees, his face between her legs as his hands pushed the shirt up around her hips.
ROMCOMS - FELIX CATTON
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PAIRING: felix catton x fem!reader
GENRE: fluff
Tumblr media
Felix Catton
Felix, Felix, Felix.
Ideal boy, everyone liked him and so he liked everyone.
It felt like there was nothing wrong about him, unless you don't like when people smoke.
He was everywhere. Everyone talked about him. And most times those were good things, but some jealous boys did not always talk about him favourably.
And since everyone talked about him like that, she really wanted to know him. She wanted to know what was so special about him.
She didn't think she had ever met Felix somewhere. She was usually with her friends, who were a total opposite to him and his friends. Of course they were rich, maybe not as much as he was, but still and always got invitations for the parties, but they actually never had gone to them.
The girl's were into books and silly rom coms with happy endings at that point, not partying.
But one night she finally met the famous Felix Catton. He was standing there alone at the schoolyard at almost midnight in glory, looking like some Greek god, Apollo to be more specific.
He waved at her. He had no idea who she was. He came to her in two steps with his long legs and started a conversation. He was a nice guy. He complimented her looks, especially how he liked the freckles on her shoulders, making her frown her brows because of how he was able to see them in the dark.
And then she understood the hype on him. There was something so magnetic in him that she just couldn't stay away from him.
And so she didn't.
On the following day Felix was quick to find her in the library, as she was chatting with her two friends. He asked them if he could steal the girl for a moment and when they said yes, he quickly grabbed her wrist and took her among bookstants.
And there he asked her for a date. He got to the point extra fast, without complimenting her. He said he was in a hurry and had to tell her first, but when she agreed he became normal again and started playing his old game of winning a girl's heart.
Felix really did like her. She was… well, herself. And he liked it. A lot.
“I'll be waiting for you tomorrow at five. Wear some trousers and hoodie and trainers” he said and kissed her cheek as a goodbye and ran to Farleigh with a smile across his face.
“I'm going on a date” the girl announced to her friends softly and sat on her chair. She felt like she was in one of these romcoms she used to watch but she didn't know if it was going to have a happy ending or not.
As Felix said, he did. He was waiting for her at her dorm wearing a green polo shirt, dark jeans and Adidas trainers. He looked good. Devilishly good.
“Felix you look… wow” she said only, looking at him and then she saw that he wasn't wearing his brow piercing. And he looked even better.
“You look wow as well, sweetheart” he giggled, looking at her outfit. The sweater in light pink colour was making her eyes look prettier and went ideally with the jeans and Nike Air Force 1.
The date went well. Really well.
“Come with me to Saltburn, to home” Felix said one night, when they were lying on the floor in his dorm, which he previously started to clean, so it didn't smell terrible.
“What?” she asked, not really thinking he meant it. They were dating for four months now, but she wasn't expecting to get such an invitation.
“You're my girlfriend, I want you to get to know my parents and sister” he answered and handed her a cigarette, forgetting again that she didn't smoke.
“But I'm going to Austria and Germany with dad and-”
“I talked to him already he said yes” Felix smiled, proud of himself.
And there she was two weeks later standing in front of the literal palace and her stupid boyfriend with an even more stupid grin on his face.
“It's gonna be fun, I promise” Felix said only and kissed her, hoping that the whole vacation will go fine.
📍OXFORD | June 20th, 2006
“You’re sure you need a tutor?” Oliver asks, wrinkles between his brows. “You seem to know this stuff.”
“No, it’s my fucking professor.” You roll your eyes, “He made it mandatory for us to pass.”
“What, the entire class needs a tutor?”
“Not the entire class, just us. Like, me, Felix, Annabel, India- That lot. They weren’t exactly on their best behavior that day.” You twirl your curls around your finger.
Oliver looks up from the textbook, his head slightly tilted as the golden sun beaming into the empty library reflects in his eyes.
“Felix…I’d-“ He looks back down. “I’d expect that out of him, maybe. But you?”
“What, you think I’m a top of the class star student like you, Oliver?”
“No, no.” He shyly chuckles, “I dunno, I just thought you’d be the one to whip ‘em into shape, you know?”
“God, no one can whip Felix Catton into shape.” You retrieve a lighter and cig from your pocket, flicking the flame until it sets alight.
Oliver’s glistening eyes dart around the dim media center like a child stealing candy.
“Are you sure you should-“
“Oh, fuck off, Oliver. Don’t act like you haven’t smoked here before.” You inhale, chuckling. “You reeked of it when you left Felix’s room the other day, please.”
“You saw me leave Felix’s room?”
“I did.” You smirk as his expression progressively fills with some unknown yet frantic emotion, “Were you two cooking meth in there? Good God. Breathe, love.”
He nervously laughs, a hint relief in his breath.
“No, not that. I was just…I was telling him how my dad…” He trails off as you listen intently, finishing the sentence in your head. “He invited me to stay for the summer. At Saltburn.”
“Did he, now?” Your brows raise, your smirk now forming a smile. “Well congrats on losing your soul to Felix, mate. Join the club.” You laugh, blowing smoke into his face.
“Will you be there too?” He asks, disregarding your previous comment.
“If I survive this semester, then yea. Farleigh and I are there every summer.”
“Farleigh…” Oliver mumbles, almost to himself.
“…My brother.” You remind him, deciding to leave the ‘step’ out for the first time in forever.
“Yeah, yeah! Farleigh, I know him.” He assures you.
You just chuckle at his skittishness, “What about your academics, Mr. Einstein? You chuffed for your exams?”
“Erm, I wouldn’t say that, no. You know, I’ll do them, of course. But I guess I’d rather not. Felix says I should skip them.”
“He’s right, no? Fuck’s sake, your father’s just passed and you’re tutoring for bloody exams?”
“My tuition isn’t payed for like yours, Lena. I have to stay here.”
You slowly nod as you lean back in your chair, your elbow perched on the arm. “You think I’m a spoiled rich girl, huh?”
“No- I didn’t say that-“
“But that’s what you meant.” You insist. “Just because I live with the Catton’s doesn’t mean I can’t understand you, Ollie. I’m not your fucking God like Felix-“
“Felix isn’t my God-“
“Well he’s all you’re eager to talk about.” You continue, not missing a beat. “I’m not him. I’m not Farleigh, I’m not Annabel, I’m not India. I’m not built in a factory like them, alright? Maybe someone actually likes you for you, Ollie, can you believe it?”
You motion your mind being blown, evoking a small laugh out of Oliver.
“Anyway,” You tap on the textbooks, “Back to this.” You sit up straight in your chair.
📍SALTBURN  | July 15, 2006
The cold marble flooring shocks you awake as you tip-toe through the dark house. Moonlight shines through the floor to ceiling windows, the only illumination present. Your too-long-for-you plaid pajama pants do little to keep you warm in contrast to your too-tiny-for-you flimsy tank.
You grab a glass off of the counter. Light suddenly becomes abundant as you pull the refrigerator door open. You squint, only being met with ingredients - no food. You throw your head back, a light groan escaping you before settling on wine and retrieving the already opened bottle.
You pour a glass that may as well weigh your body weight before putting it back, slamming the door and spinning on your heels.
“Oh!” Your body jolts as you see a flash of a shadow passing the window and approaching the exterior door. Your blood runs cold and you’re frozen in place for a millisecond before seeing the shadow enter, suddenly becoming a man.
“Jesus, Oliver.” You hold your chest, setting your glass on the island. “You could’ve fucking killed me.”
“Sorry…” He holds his elbows.
It’s now that you realize he hasn’t changed clothes from this tea time with Elsbeth. Only having his thin dress trousers to cover the prominent print underneath them.
“What are you even doing?” You inquiry, regaining your footing. “It’s like 2 in the morning and fucking freezing.”
“Oh, I was just- I was looking out of my window at the garden. Reckoned I’d-“
“Looking at the gardens at 2am, that’s completely normal.” You kid, sipping your wine, “And you just, what, went out and looked at the flowers while powering your nose?”
“Powdering my nose.” He lets out that familiar nervous laugh.
“I was going-“
You’re cut off by the door opening again. Though it’s dark, you’d recognize the grown out roots if they were inside out.
“…Hello, Venetia.”
You get no answer. She only fiddles with her dress and continues to beeline for her room, keeping her head down.
You slowly turn your attention back to Oliver. Your eyes scan his tall frame. Nothing stands out, nothing but the glistening wetness around his lips. The moon almost makes it out to be deep red, the illusion of a vampire boy standing before you.
Disheveled Venetia and unordinary Oliver coming in from the garden forces your mind to go to one place. The same place it went a few summers ago when you caught Eddie in the same spot.
“Hm,” You hum, sipping once more. “You’re an odd one, Ollie.”
📍SALTBURN | September 9th, 2006
Oliver rushes into the vast bathroom, throwing his cufflinks onto the floor.
“He’s humiliated me in front of everyone.” He breathes heavily, staring at himself in the mirror.
“It’s the Henry’s, they humiliate themselves.” You rest your back in the doorway, breath short from chasing him upstairs.
“No, it’s not funny, Lena. It’s serious.”
“Oliver, Farleigh’s a dick, you know this.” You scoff. “Our family’s going through something, alright - He’s already stressed. You imposing on his life only makes it worse. Just…give him time.”
He leans and rocks his hips on the counter edge, angrily wrapping a towel around his hand.
“He’s lucky people were around...”
“Ollie, please.” You laugh a little harder than you mean to, “What would you have done, fought him? Taken him back to the Oliver factory and put batteries in him? He just sees you as a threat, it’s not a big deal. He’ll get over it, I swear-“
You damn near duck behind the doorframe when Oliver’s wrapped fist makes contact with the, now shattered, mirror. He only stares at the impact point as your jaw hangs open. You linger on him, listening to his breaths becoming more frantic and his fist still shaking out of fury.
You don’t dare speak to this Ollie. You’re far too afraid to.
📍SALTBURN | September 10th, 2006
“I would never do this shit- Why would I do this? It makes no fucking sense.” Farleigh can barely speak through his sobs.
“I know, Farls, I believe you.” You rub his curled up body, his shaking bones vibrating through the bed.
The tension in the house grows thicker by the minute as the accusations against your brother spread like a virus.
You comfort him, as he would you. But no matter how much you believe every word he says, you have to recognize how terrible it looks.
“Someone had to fuck-“ He sniffles, “Fucking blackmail me or something.”
“But who would do that, Farleigh?” You ask, knowing full well he’s a prick to half of Oxford’s student population.
“We’re with the fucking Cattons!” He weeps, “We’re a target to everybody! It could’ve been anyone, Lena! God, they’re never going to help mom out now that-“
“Hey, hey.” You stroke his hair. “I’ll figure this out, yeah? I promise.”
Farleigh continues to bawl, incoherent. You can’t help but hear the same gossipy whispers that you’d once been a part of in the next hall over. It’s instantly recognizable.
“I’ll be back.” You press a kiss onto your step brother’s shoulder before heading toward the door, shutting it behind you.
The hushed talk gets louder and louder as you near Venetia’s bedroom. The door may as well have been wide open, as they haven’t bothered to close it.
“You have to admit…It’s a little bit dark. Him having to go to mum and dad with a begging bowl.”
“Oh, boo-fucking-hoo.”
You creep into the doorway. Venetia lays on the floor propped on her elbows, her brother sitting on her bed.
“Alright, yes, it was incredibly fucking stupid. He-“
“Felix.” She cuts him off, making eye contact with you.
You defensively cross your arms, “Oh no, don’t silence yourselves now. You’ve shit talked him all morning. Please, go on.”
“Lena…” Felix says softly.
“No, it’s fucking sad how quickly you turned on him. How you’d even believe he’d do something so stupid. Honestly, I feel sorry for you. It’s utterly pathetic, really.”
“He turned on us first.” Venetia calmly voices, never being one to stand down to you.
Felix nervously scratches his head, “Venetia-“
You shrug, “Someone must have set him up. Obviously he didn’t fucking do it.”
“What if he did?” She asks, not seeming to care how it makes you feel.
“He didn’t.” You sneer, her smoky fog filling your senses.
“Lena, how would you even know?” Felix quietly speaks up. “The two of you barely even speak-“
“Fuck you, Felix.” You directly your wrath at him, “Both of you know Farleigh. He hasn’t done anything like this before, why the fuck would he start now?”
“We had an argument…a few days ago.”
“Jesus Christ.” You pinch the bridge of your nose.
“I’m just saying it might have been a trigger-“
“A trigger? What, is he a fucking mental patient. You argue all the time that doesn’t make him a thief.”
“Lena - If you’re so fucking sure - Please do tell us who would set Farleigh up, of all people.”
You tilt your head slightly, desperately wondering what she implies by of all people. Nevertheless, now is as good of a time as any to voice your theory.
“…I saw Oliver near his bedroom last night.”
The both of them immediately sigh, Venetia taking another puff as Felix rubs his temples.
“Great, Farleigh’s got you believing that rubbish.” He groans.
“It’s not rubbish, Felix. It’s the only way someone could’ve sent it through his phone.”
“Lena, Farleigh’s been jealous of Ollie ever since he met him. It’s fucking delusional for Christ sake.”
“You’ve known him for- What? Three, four months? And you’re 100% confident he wouldn’t lie? Maybe he’s the jealous one Felix, he’s clearly obsessed with you.”
“What on earth would he have to lie for?” Venetia slurs, almost in her own world.
“Maybe for what Farleigh pulled last night, I don’t fucking know.”
“Lena, just stop.” Felix raises his voice. “This…hate is so one sided it’s honestly pitiful.”
Your mouth hangs slightly open as it hits you that they truly have no intent of hearing you or your brother out. They’ve already made up their minds.
“…We’ve known you our entire lives, Felix. Our whole lives.” Your voice quivers, “Sweet baby Oliver’s been here a few months and already taken our place, yet we’re delusional.”
 A thin stream of water lines your eye, Felix seems to notice.
He stands, his voice softening as he nears you with consoling arms. “No, Lena don’t-“
“Believe whatever the fuck you want.” You push him away, storming out.
📍SALTBURN | October 5th, 2006
“And you’ll cling on to it, and comb over it and jerk off to it.” Farleigh towers over Oliver, leaning down to be eye to eye. “And wonder how you’ll ever get it back. But you don’t get it back, because your summer’s over.”
Oliver only stares with fire in his moonlit pupils before shifting them to you. This was the Oliver you saw shatter the mirror. This was the Oliver that Farleigh sniffed out since the moment they met.
“Has he gotten to you too, Lena?” He asks in that same frantically-trying-to-stay-composed tone that he had the night of ‘Rent’.
“Here you go, spinning your web again-“
“Fuck you.” He scolds your brother, eyes treading on you.
“…She just sees what I always have. A fucking rat - burying his way in our family and chewing us out from the inside.” Farleigh says, his tone grave.
You lean on the stand, snorting a small pile of white dust off of your pinky. “Just go home, Ollie. Make our lives easier, yea?”
📍SALTBURN | October 6th, 2006
Your knuckles are coated with tears and your hand stays tightly over your lips. Farleigh and Venetia let out silent sobs on the grass, the minotaur seeming to laugh as he’d seen it all happen. Your bones shake in your legs, but they can’t seem to buckle. The harder you cry the more you struggle to want to breathe again.
James joins his still son on the ground, asking him to stand. The angel only lays there, a renaissance-esque feel to the image.
“J- James we-“
“…I think…I think the police.” Farleigh suggests, hardly intelligible.
Elsbeth agrees, calmly walking off from the scene. Each grassy footstep seems to push the world around you further and further away. Now, it seems to be only you, Felix, and the minotaur. The three of you staring at the results of spotting a moth far too late.
“What the fuck are you still doing here?” Farleigh’s shaking voice pierced the tension filled silence. “Does no one else find it weird?”
“I wouldn’t throw stones if I was you, Farleigh…” Oliver’s eyes cut through him.
“…Excuse me?”
“Please stop.” Venetia sniffles.
Your eyes press shut, preparing for what the two plan to blow up over now. “Farleigh…”
“What is he saying?”
“I…I have no idea.”
“What I’m saying is I would feel guilty, too.” Oliver speaks, now with an unforgiving spite in his voice that the Catton’s seem to miss.
“Guilty?”
“Oliver, it is not the time-“
“You as well, Lena.” He says, your fingertips beginning to feel clammy. “I’d feel terrible if I was the one racking up lines the night someone died.”
The tears seem to be sucked out of your eyes only to fill up again with brutal force. They shift to your brother, his mouth agape.
“F- Fuck you.”
“That’s not a denial.”
The Catton’s look at the two of you like imposters. A wrinkle forms between your brows, looking back at them the same way.
For you can’t produce a near good enough reason for why your family, your blood, would use the words of someone like Oliver as fuel to burn someone like yourself. He’s an alien, a foreigner, a stranger.
“…Is that true?” James asks, seeming to jump at the opportunity to take his emotions out on anyone or anything. “Search their rooms.” He orders a footman.
Farleigh whimpers, “No.”
“He didn’t do anything!” You slightly raise your voice, slurring through the tears as you struggle to catch your breath. You turn your attention to Oliver. “Would you let us be for one fucking second?”
Venetia numbly over pours her drink, “Please, please stop.”
Oliver slyly looks around the table, “I just thought they should know.”
“S….Shut the fuck up.” Farleigh begs, barely audible.
“What’s happening?” Aunt Elsbeth asks, miserably confused at all of what she’s feeling.
“This fucking cockroach,” You stare daggers at Oliver, fury now replacing the previous timidness in your voice. “Has only lied, and deceived, and swindled his way through this house. He made us all believe him but- Oliver, I see through you.” You lean across the table, nearing him. “You’re an obsessed maniac who fed off of Felix until you consumed him.”
“Don’t you mention his name!” James frantically tries to keep his grief at bay.
Your brother’s chair scoots out with a terrible screech as he stands. His hand is sealed over his mouth as he rushes out of the room, giving in to defeat. You can only watch him go.
The silence after he closes the door behind him is enough to deafen the four of you. You scan the table, a blank expression contrasting your tear stained cheeks.
Your eyes rest on Oliver, though, you don’t plan to speak another word to him.
“When he devours you all…” A hushed voice comes out of you with a rasp as you target the family. “When he drives you to madness like he did your son.” Your head pivots behind you, landing on Duncan. “Do not say you weren’t warned.”
People who watch the entirety of Saltburn and still insist that it was meant to be class commentary, good or bad, are like if Felix had met Oliver's parents and then spent the drive back to Saltburn insisting that Oliver's mom had really sobered up and moved on from his dead dad to marry a new man really quickly. The movie had a twist ending, and I get that not everyone likes a twist ending when they were invested in the story they originally thought they were getting. Not liking the twist, though, isn't the same as refusing to accept that the twist ending changes the narrative entirely.
Saltburn is not about class commentary. It's about loneliness and obsession and how those things can drive someone into terrible choices that ruin their own and others' lives lives in pursuit of friendship with the wrong people.
Oliver tells himself at the end that he wanted the wealth and power of the Cattons, because that's what he wound up with, but he went into things wanting Felix. He started the movie wanting to fit in and have friends.
Oliver pretends to Felix during the movie that he comes from some exaggerated stereotype of Poverty, because he knows that will garner him more sympathy from Felix than admitting that he has just always been an awkward person who struggles to make friends and doesn't connect well with his perfectly normal family.
It's not class commentary. It's loneliness and obsession and wanting approval from the wrong people because their attention seems positive enough to mask that they're just using you commentary. It's lonely stalker meets callous mediocre rich boy who love bombs desperate loners because he likes being adored and it predictably ends Very Badly For Everyone commentary.
You can get class commentary out of it, because Death of Author and all that, but it's not about class commentary.
saltburn and privilege; an investigative tangent
god, where to begin.
i've seen a lot of people discussing this moving and specifically using the word "privilege," along with power, dominance, desire, control, greed, etc. me included. these are all very essential aspects of this movie. what i want to focus on is emerald fennell's nuanced portrayal of how different types of privilege interact. which one trumps the other? which types of privilege are more visible, while others are more subtle? what differentiates different levels and layers of privilege?
when emerald fennell describes the core of this movie, her inspiration for this script, she talks about desire versus untouchability. she chose the most absurd type of wealth to represent untouchability: the british aristocracy. old wealth, generational wealth, so far removed from the majority of their ancestors' sins that they can arguably ignore that the money they're standing on is dirty. and they live in fucking castles. this is one of the most unbelievable, gaudy, visible types of privilege you can imagine. everyone is entirely aware and feels entirely justified to call attention to this type of privilege.
oliver, being the main character, might be considered the least privileged within this movie. i'd like to take a critical look at this. this movie is not a straightforward class commentary; there is no traditional "the poor eat the rich" dynamic. because although some people perceive oliver as the least privileged character in this movie, he is incredibly privileged. oliver comes from a comfortable upper-middle-class home in the suburbs. oliver has two loving parents and two sisters. oliver is white. oliver is a man. interestingly, from oliver's perspective, he's not privileged at all. he hates the cattons because they are more wealthy, more comfortable, more untouchable. this extends to venetia and farleigh, even though oliver has applicable layers of privilege stacked above even them. he knows he has a certain type of power over them... yet he still hates them because they have one type of power he doesn't have.
that brings me to my next point. the existence of one type of privilege does not negate the effects of another, entirely different, type of privilege (or marginalization) [quote]. this is what venetia and farleigh's characters draw attention to. venetia experiences some of the same struggles as many women; she is ignored in her own household, perpetually existing within her brother's shadow (rosamund pike once lovingly pointed out that venetia does not have a single conversation with elspeth in this movie). she's insecure about her body and her worth, so she takes what little opportunity she has to use felix's friends as a form of self-fulfillment. farleigh is not only half black, but he's also queer, non-immediate family, and unaccustomed to english culture (specifically this type of english culture). farleigh is, in some ways, more financially unstable than oliver's family because his mom was too sheltered to understand money and his dad is, apparently, "a lunatic." (that's not to say farleigh isn't economically privileged because oh boy, he absolutely is).
this movie doesn't intend to incite pity from the viewers for any of these characters, and it generally doesn't. oliver is pathetically greedy, ungrateful, and desperate for a chance to lick the boots (or bathtubs) of those above him. venetia is pathetically bored of the privilege she does have yet is still so entrenched in emotional turmoil due to other areas in which she is marginalized. farleigh is pathetically attached to uninterrupted comfort and arbitrary white-centric expectations, constantly running from or attacking any threat of struggle. none of these people understand, comparatively, what the less fortunate experience. they are so ignorant to the bubble they exist in and just how grateful they should be for what monumental privileges they do have. but... felix.
felix is the epitome of privilege. oliver is specifically obsessed with felix. just like oliver, felix is a white man. but felix is more wealthy, more comfortable, more untouchable than oliver. oliver isn't as infatuated with farleigh and venetia because he's fully aware of the privilege they lack. he's fully aware of the privilege he holds above them, and he enthusiastically uses this power he has against them. to be in the position of oliver is to be consumed by jealousy and greed so bottomless that you will assert your dominance over any group that you're able to. felix doesn't need to do this. he's been handed every privilege under the sun and therefor welcomes the less fortunate with childlike interest and an equally childlike attention span. there's an aspect of farleigh and venetia's marginalization that is so invisible, so quiet and unassuming, that felix doesn't even notice it. he can't possibly be confronted by it. to be in the position of oliver is to understand what power you hold over others, because there is always more power to have.
racism, sexism, wealth, power, control, desire. there are so many facets of this movie that come into play. it may seem overwhelming, but this is... how things work. commentary on wealth is, and should be, equally a commentary on other areas of privilege. to be black and wealthy means different things than to be white and wealthy. to be a wealthy woman means different things than to be a wealthy man. to be rich to some also means you're much less rich than others, unless you're the richest person in the world. and, as this movie so beautifully portrays, to be richer than most doesn't make you less messy. the catton family is an ugly one, but also a complexly human one. each catton (or start) is jealous of someone else for another reason. each catton is emotionally damaged or incompetent for another reason. each catton has a different layer of privilege over the other. and each catton loves everyone in saltburn, because this is still a family, albeit a terrible one.
so i saw you have headcanons on ur page, so i prompt you for more, unload all ur cattonquick headcanons can be nsft go wild mate
sorry it took me so long but here are almost 2k words of my cattonquick headcanons
Felix
dyslexia/adhd combo. has no idea until like late 20s/early 30s. gets medicated, and it changes his entire life (he even gets some kind of rich boy job)
but during oxford he's just struggling and insufferable. Oliver has to do some of his assignments for him (not often. usually when Felix forgets about them entirely and doesn't find someone to pay for doing them)
had chlamydia. do I really need to explain this one? boy fucks around a lot
wants to get his nipples pierced
likes horror stories and spooky urban legends and stuff but also gets scared shitless by them
he was around 10 when his dog died. was literally heartbroken, didn't eat for like a weak. swore to never have a pet again
once during boarding school procrastinated all of his works for the last moment drank five redbulls was awake for 43 hours to finish everything and went to two finals. slept for two days straight woke up with no memory of doing any of this and didn't have a caffeinated drink again for a couple of years (he still barely passed if you care)
has super boring stories about drunk nights out (because he's rich and popular, so there's always something looking after him). but he thinks they are crazy
turns into crazy people pleaser if you as much as hint that you don't like him
Oliver
autistic
thinks he's great at masking (he does know it's masking because he's also not diagnosed but he's highly aware that he performs different versions of himself for people and believes it's him being an evil genius or something)
is actually shit at masking. he can put his shit together and act a certain way for some time (like he did with other Cattons). but most of the time he's a little freak type of guy, and everyone notices
he also won’t talk to anyone unless he absolutely needs to (he almost failed a class because he needed to do a group project but didn’t like the group he was assigned to, so he tried to email “sorry to miss our group meeting but here’s my part of the work” his way out of talking to any them)
since they spend almost all the time together, Felix knows him in his closest to not masking state
I think his dad does have drinking problems, but he's more like a functional alcoholic so no one cares
likes reading long books. like 600+ pages long. they provide him with a sense of stability
I know he doesn't look like it, but he did have friends at school. mostly children of his parent's friends or people from his classes. he doesn't keep in touch with any of them, and it's his decision (he misses them sometimes, but it's more like he misses the idea of having friends than actual people)
started using contact lenses because Felix would always mention how he likes the color of his eyes
really picky about food and would rather starve than eat something he doesn't like. skips meals at oxford all the time if eggs at the dining hall are cooked in the wrong way or something like this
tries to quit smoking at some point later in life but decides it's not worth it with all the passive smoking from living with Felix
talks in his sleep. not much and not often, but still
becomes a writer and write really fucked up stories with dark academia vibes (partially because he turned into a fucking gremlin when he discovered academic validation and never let it go + partially as a love letter to Felix, his uni sweetheart who, let's be honest, kinda peaked at uni)
gets close with his second sister when she grows older (she and the youngest one have a similar age difference to Oliver and the oldest sisters, and their parents treated them similarly. so they bond over being ignored and forced into taking care of their younger siblings) parents treated them similarly. so they bond over being ignored and forced into taking care of their younger siblings)
cattonquick
Felix is one year older than most people in his class. because he took a gap year after school to "experience life" (get drunk in nine different European countries) and "get to know himself" (receive a couple of mediocre hand-jobs from other rich boys and make some conclusions about his sexuality). he would've been one year Oliver's senior but when Oliver was five he had severe pneumonia and was too weak to start school (like a fucking victorian child). so he started a year later and they are the same age
they do awful couple Halloween costumes (there are also people dressing as them for Halloween as couple costumes, that’s how annoying they are)
they are "facebook official" if you care (it was a big deal for possessive mentally unstable people back then, trust me, my favorite movie is the social network)
Felix has insane separation anxiety (like those dogs on tiktok that grew up during covid with their owners always around)
he would sit in Oliver's laps at parties, play with Oliver's clothes or hair while he's doing his work, ask Oliver to join him in the shower because I need to wash my hair so it's gonna be a long shower and I'll miss you and then you'll go to the shower and I'll miss you even more
but once in a while he gets angry because he feels "too needy" so he ignores Oliver for the whole day or asks him to leave if they are together
then (you guessed it) he starts missing Oliver
at first, Oliver was freaking out every time this happened, but over time he figured out to just give Felix some time and come back later. it still hurts him though that Felix believes he can just send him away whenever he's tired of him
after days like this Felix does everything to show that he loves Oliver and wants him around. he cuddles him more, takes him to a bar or to one of their special places, buys him something (he keeps track of everything Oliver mentions he likes by texting Farleigh. Farleigh fucking hates it)
but still the best way to show Oliver that he won't suddenly get bored of him once and for all one day is to stop doing shit like this. and Felix fails to do it. so they pretend it never happened until it happens again
Oliver always pulls Felix for a kiss by the collar or by his hair. he never stands on his toes
they did acid together once. Felix was sure Oliver would love it but Oliver had an awful trip full of maze imagery and never tried psychedelics again
for their first vacation together, they go to France (mostly because Felix doesn't really care for traveling, and he knows that Paris is the city of love or whatever). there're huge protests the second day they arrived. so they only go to Louvre and spend the whole two weeks in their hotel room
after Oliver and Felix date for a while and it's clear that Oliver isn't going anywhere Oliver and Farleigh start to develop some love/hate friendship. they mostly hang out together, talk shit about everyone (including each other), and discuss poetry
Felix is insanely jealous. Farleigh is offended Felix thought he would be into Oliver. Oliver finds it hilarious (he doesn't think it's hot because he already knows how possessive Felix is, which is hot, but this makes Felix nervous so Oliver isn't into it)
Oliver bites. not only during sex but in general. they can sit holding hands and talk and he will just bite Felix's hand and continue talking like nothing happened. because Felix is a little spoon, he will often wake up from Oliver biting into the back of his neck and have a mark for the entire day. Felix gets used to it surprisingly easily (and by gets used to it I mean he finds it unearthly hot, touches marks that Oliver leaves on him all the time and seriously thinks about getting a tattoo of Oliver’s bite marks)
and yes he does call Oliver a vampire
Oliver has a couple of slightly worn t-shirts three sizes bigger for Felix to borrow (when they start living together a couple slowly turns into a whole drawer)
they never really lived in saltburn together. but they went here for summer
when they start living together (right after oxford they move into a two-story apartment) Oliver insists they both should have an office as some personal space, mostly because he needs to get his work done. Oliver’s office is very old-fashioned, with dark wooden furniture and tall bookshelves. he also gets a reproduction of the Saltburn maze game. Felix doesn’t know what to put in his office because he doesn’t need a fucking office. his only idea is to commission a portrait of Oliver, so for a couple of years (until he gets medicated and finds a rich boy job) his office has blank walls, a portrait of his boyfriend with a desk and a single chair across from it and nothing else. he ends up spending most of the time Oliver works on the couch at Oliver’s office anyway
Oliver has a lock of Felix's hair in a locket. very 18th century gothic poet style (Felix knows about it btw. it was an anniversary gift)
Felix introduces Oliver as boyfriend, then fiancé, and then husband. Oliver always introduces Felix as his life partner
they get married after six years together
Felix is the one to propose (he waited for Oliver to do it, but Farleigh once told Oliver that he would look like a desperate social climber if he proposes and Oliver internalized it immediately)
Oliver writes Felix love letters even after they’ve been together for years. full of admiration for small daily things Felix does, about how godly is even the way Felix brush his teeth; about small nice things that happened to him because there’s no one in the world he would rather share it with (much like Nabokov’s Letters to Vera)
Oliver doesn't believe in soulmates, and Felix claims to be personally victimized by it. but Oliver just loves to see it as a result of hard work they put into it. he doesn't think they were simply destined to be together, he believes it's years and years of them choosing to be together, choosing each other when there were so many easier options
as for nsfw
I don't think they have sex with penetration often
like Felix has oral fixation, and Oliver just prefers doing things with his hands or mouth
Felix is really voyeuristic and huge part of their sex life is just Felix putting up a show for Oliver and Oliver watching
Felix likes to do cookwarming (oral fixation + it grounds him and his adhd brain)
Oliver is really a service dom whatever Felix wants Oliver will find a way to do it
but his personal favorite is rimming Felix until he's all wet and finish him by sucking him off and fingerings him at the same time
My favorite fix-it au is the one where Oliver's parents are actually poor, and his dad dies. so here are some very specific cattonquick winter break headcanons. mostly Oliver's pov because I relate to being poor and in love with Felix
it's the winter break of their sophomore year
they are already dating
(still took them a fucking eternity to get together. I'd say they started dating at the end of Oliver's first summer at Saltburn. Felix was getting tired of making moves with no reciprocation, and Oliver just didn't know???? that he was???? making moves???? on him???? and at the end of the summer Oliver had a massive panic attack because he got so used to them being together all the time, and he wasn't sure they'd be this close at oxford. and because Felix is his entire support system, he goes to him for comfort. my poor boy. Felix is scared and is like 80% sure Oliver's mom died or something. then he's even more scared because Oliver is crying and panicking but doesn't want to talk about it. then Oliver whispers, "I just don't wanna lose you, I really fucking love you, Felix". and Felix is like "shit, Ollie, mate, are you telling me we could've been done with all this pining stuff like four months ago?")
but I digress. they are already dating
Oliver is invited to Saltburn for Christmas. because Christmas is a family holiday and Felix always celibates at home
Felix has to negotiate no gifts for visitors policy with his mother because there is no way Ollie would feel comfortable exchanging paperback books for some antique watch
(btw sorry for my unreliable depiction of british upper-class society. I'm poor and eastern european)
Oliver stays at Felix's room this time. and it's a little awkward because everyone knows, but at the same time perfect because they can stay in Felix's bed for as long as they want, go have some breakfast, and come right back to cuddling in Felix's bed
the dinner is great if a little Catton family intence. they also have this awkward moment when everyone decides to talk about how much they support gay rights
(Oliver is wearing old Felix's clothes, obviously. it feels really comforting and only a bit embarrassing)
Felix lays on Oliver's chest (because he's the ultimate little spoon, and I'll die on this hill) and tell him about his family and their weird rich people holiday traditions
Oliver plays with his hair in pure fucking bliss and adds something from time to time so Felix knows he hasn't fallen asleep
and then Felix has to bring this shit up again
ever since they went to Oliver's mom, Felix decided he needed to fix this woman's life and her relationship with her son for the sake of solving all Oliver's problems
(they haven't talked for two weeks when Oliver found Felix was paying his mother's therapy bills. Felix was terrified they might break up. Oliver mostly avoided him and cried)
so Felix once again says how nice it would be to go to Oliver's mom for the New Year
it's the same argument they keep having, really. Felix says, "she is trying to get better." and Oliver responds with, "but does she? get any better?" if he has energy to argue about it. most of the time he doesn't
because for his whole life, Felix only encountered broken things he was able to fix. and Oliver doesn't have it in himself to show Felix that some broken things can not be fixed or are not worth the effort to do it. because he's scared Felix would see he's just one of those broken things
so he agrees
the flat is cleaner than Oliver remembers from his childhood but is still probably the filthiest place Felix has ever seen
they still decide to clean the kitchen before making dinner (and have to do an enormous amount of googling first because Felix grew up in a mansion, and Oliver grew up in a dysfunctional family, not ideal circumstances to develop any useful skills really)
they planned the dinner in the car. something Felix likes, something Oliver knows how to cook, something they've seen at the dining hall on the last New Year
Oliver's mom gives them money to buy food, but it doesn't cover half of what they planned. Felix pays for everything like it's nothing. and Oliver wants to die from embarrassment on the spot. because yes, Felix knows he's fucking poor but knowing and seeing are too different things
the dinner itself is awkward. they don't know what to talk about. his mom doesn't really know what he studies or does in his free time. and he isn't any better, all he knows is that she drinks and goes to AA meetings. she is also not openly homophobic, but she does that thing where she acts like Felix and him are just really close friends. or maybe it's the way she would've treated his girlfriends, too. he wouldn't know, Felix is the first person he brought here
at midnight, they eat a surprisingly decent cake Oliver's mom brought from a local bakery. his mom doesn't drink because she is "two months sober" (it's not than Oliver doesn't believe her, he just doesn't think it makes any difference now) and goes to sleep shortly after
Oliver invites Felix for a walk
they go along the streets, Oliver grew up walking, and drink a bottle of champagne Oliver brought in his bag
Felix doesn't ask about his family. but he asks about school, books he saw in old Oliver's room, local urban legends (he's weirdly fascinated with them), and his favorite childhood snacks
Oliver answers. he also can't stop looking at Felix ever since he noticed snowflakes on his eyelashes
they finish the bottle, kiss a little before heading back to Oliver's mom place
they sleep on a tiny bed in Oliver's old room (smaller than ones in oxford dorms if it's even possible). it takes Felix about an hour to fit himself properly
(all the jokes Felix made about having sex in both their childhood rooms end up being just jokes because there's not much you can do when it took all of your concentration just to stop yourself from falling off the bed)
in the morning, Oliver's mom cooks them eggs. she also hugs Oliver really tight before they leave. Oliver doesn't remember her hugging him like this when he was leaving for the first time
Felix looks proud of himself, and Oliver doesn't feel like pointing out an empty bottle in the trash, the one they didn't drink. instead, he chose to believe for a day that relapse is actually part of recovery, and other things Felix keeps telling him about
they drive to oxford mostly in silence. a great, comforting one. sometimes Felix tells him some campus gossip, and they make bets on who slept with whom during the break
Oliver is a bit tired, and his back hurts. but he also feels okay. feels great. feels like there's no other shoe to be dropped any time soon
Okay, so...thinking about Felix Catton. Imagine you being pregnant and him decorating the nursery for his new baby daughter; being rich and all, he goes seriously overboard lol!
HE WOULD!!!! He would DEFINITELY want to go vintage for the nursery theme and he would be SUCH A girl dad! and he'd call her princess 24/7! I feel like his mom would be like "don't worry hon, I'll help you decorate!" and he's all "no way in hell, THIS IS MY JOB"
He'll get a GIANT crib even though once his daughter is born, she only sleeps in there for naps and other times, Felix brings her into our big bed for daughter daddy cuddles, a state of the art changing table, A WALK IN CLOSET, a stuffy mountain, and a princess canopy thing over her pink crib
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’d def do something like this
