Urachicheños celebran fiestas en honor a la Cruz de Mayo Brillo, glamour, belleza y un derroche de alegría, creatividad y talento engalanaron la elección y coronación de la nueva reina de las fiestas en honor a la Cruz de Mayo 2022 realizadas en la comunidad de Sábana de Mendez Municipio Urachiche. La noche que se engalono de alegría y furgor, hizo apertura con un opening por parte de las ocho candidatas, seguidamente un hermoso baile cultural realizado por niñas de la comunidad, para así dar inicio al desfile con trajes de fantasía, dónde todas las aspirantes mostraron su creatividad con trajes confeccionados con material reciclable. Cabe destacar que la misión de calificar el talento de las chicas estuvo a cargo de un jurado conformado por Tadeo Luna, Director General de la Alcaldía del Municipio, Concejal Arturo Cordero, Yonailyn Giménez, reina de las Fiestas de la Cruz de Mayo 2019 y el estilista Fransisco Rojas. Deslumbrando con total belleza, las candidatas hicieron el desfile con sus trajes de gala y al mismo tiempo dieron respuesta a la ronda de preguntas. Para seguir animando la noche hizo acto de presencia César Quiroz, cantante de música urbana. Con imposición de más de 8 bandas, finalmente se coronó como reina de las fiestas en honor a la Cruz de Mayo 2022 a la señorita Alberlys Alvarado, quedando el cuadro de ganadoras a manos de: reina de cultura, Desiree Correa y reina del deporte, Yuleidy Castillo. Al respecto, la reina saliente Yonailyn Giménez, antes de coronar a la nueva ganadora, dió unas palabras de agradecimiento y consolidación a todos los presentes y sobre todo a todas las participantes. Just got back last night from the English dub screening of Sound! Euphonium The Movie - Our Promise: A Brand New Day
It's really good, y'all! It took me a little bit to get used to hearing Erica Mendez's voice coming out of Kumiko Omae but I warmed to it quickly. I was especially gleeful to hear Christine Marie Cabanos join the cast as the new freshman Euphonium player Kanade Hisaishi. While I was a little sad Cristina Valenzuela didn't reprise Reina Kousaka, I thought Laura Post did a fine job.
Apparently this story runs basically in parallel to the drama of Liz and the Blue Bird and carries beyond, since both Mizore and Nozomi pass their auditions and are on stage for the final performance and Mizore once again delivers her amazing oboe solo even more impressively than in Liz and the Blue Bird. Neither have speaking parts in this movie but they are there.
The Kumiko x Reina moments in this film are simply precious and worth the price of admission alone. They love each other so much...
My only quibble with the ADR direction is having the characters pronounce the name of their school as "Kita Oooh Gee" which kind of drove me nuts since I know in Japanese it's much closer to approximately "Kih TAU gee"....why they couldn't have just gone with that in the dub is beyond me.
Also, before the main feature started there was a 10-minute SUB ONLY recap sequence of Season 1 & 2 highlights which was a little unsettling since it made me wonder if I was actually going to get to watch the dub tonight or were they going to force me to sit through the sub even though I specifically paid for the dub. I didn't really need the recap since Seasons 1&2 are still fresh in my memory. There's also a post-credits stinger so be sure to stick around.
All in all I am very happy this movie got an English dub and felt very entertained throughout. The material could definitely have been stretched out to fill a complete 3rd Season but I'm still pleased this film exists. A 3rd season would've probably stayed sub-only. By dubbing this movie it adds more weight and social interest in perhaps one day dubbing the whole series, perhaps via Kickstarter. The original season sold like gangbusters so I think they're leaving money on the table by not dubbing it.

Ashanti was sitting on the toilet, staring at the pregnancy test she took just 5 minutes ago, she was glad her parents Dwayne and Stacy and her little brother Jamal, weren’t home because if they were, they wouldn't have liked the results that the pregnancy test showed. Standing up and putting the test on the piece of toilet paper she ripped from the toilet paper earlier, she washed her hands, grabbing the test and heading to her room. Closing her bedroom door, Ashanti places the test in her safety deposit box, before laying on the bed, as Ashanti turns over, cuddling with her pillow, wiping her tears away, she starts to think about that one night.
Ashanti was on her bed watching The Vampire Diaries, as a celebration for herself, she recently graduated college with her Bachelors Degree in Software Engineering, a month ago and two days ago she got hired to work for Google at home, and since it was peaceful at home, she decided to order pizza and binge watch the diaries, but was interrupted by a call from her best friend of 15 years, Monica Guzman.
“Hello.” Ashanti says, after chewing the piece of pizza that was in her both.“Whats up Bitchh” Mariana yells over the phone. “Nothing just chilling.” Ashanti pausing her show. “Well chilling time is over cause we are about to go to Oscars party.” Mariana picking her outfit, after looking thru her closet she decides on a pair of Levis 501 pants with a white crop top with one of her boyfriend, Jokers Black and white flannels with air force ones and a gold chain, that Joker brought her for their 5 year anniversary. “Mari, really I don't like partying.” Ashanti silently groans, moving from a lying position to a sitting up position. “SIS we just graduated college and we were both hired from our dream jobs, if that isn't something to party about then i don't know what is.” Mariana fixing her hair after getting dressed. “Mari I don't know.” Ashanti looking at her nails. “Sad Eyes is going to be there.” Monica convinces Ashanti. “So??, hie is dating Andrea Ramos' ' Ashanti mocking Andreas' voice. “ Not anymore, I don't think, Just pleasee comeee pretty please. '' Mariana begs. “Fineee.” Ashanti gives in. “Great, so Joker is picking me and my brother up first, so ill say about 30 minutes we should be at your place and also, wear something sexy!!” Mariana putting her on speaker. “I don't have anything Sexy!” Ashanti getting up from her bed and walking towards her closet. “Yes you do, you have the 2 piece yellow set, the one with a crop top and matching short skirt and wear you're black vans.” Mariana instructs Asthanti. “Okay, I found It” Ashanti finds the 2 piece outfit under the chest box in her closet in the Ross shopping bag she hid from her dad. “Alright see you in 30.” Mariana says. “Bye.” Ashanti replies , before ending the call. Picking up the box from her bed and heading to the kitchen, placing it in the fridge and closing the fridge door, she heads to the front door and the back door making sure they are both locked before heading back to her room and grabbing her black towel and running to the bathroom, locking the bathroom door once As Ashanti got inside, turning on the shower, she hangs up the towel while the shower gets hot before stepping inside shower, washing her body and wetting her hair since she washed it yesterday, she starts to rinse her off when she quickly remembers she needs to shave her legs, grabbing her men razor and her shaving cream she quickly but carefully starts to shave her legs, after spending 15 minutes in the shower, Ashanti turns off the shower, grabbing her towel drying off her body before exiting the shower, stepping on the mat and the towel they use on the floor. Reaching the sink, She grabs her hair products from the sink cabinets that's located under the sink, and putting them next to the sink before getting up and opening and grabbing some gel spreading to her hair evenly, before checking the final result in the mirror, noticing she missed a few stands, Ashanti grabs a smaller amount than before playing the gel on those strands she miss before smiling at the end result, washing her hands, and putting her hair products away.
Unlocking the door and jogs to her room, Ashanti quickly hangs up her towel, before walking to her outfit that was laying on her nightstand, grabbing her yellow lacy set, she brought from Torrid she quickly puts it on, then her skirt, crop top and finally her socks before putting her shoes on, Grabbing her lanyard which contain her house key and car key and her new Employee Id for Google, before shutting her tv off and fixing her queen size bed with black comforter set covering it. Taking a small glance around the room making sure everything was shut off and checking the bathroom, she heads outside opening and closing the door before locking it with her key. The minute she turned around Joker's car was already on the sidewalk waiting for her. “Hurryy upp” Mariana yells, making Ashanti jog towards his car, getting inside once Sad Eyes steps out to let her in. “Thank you Joker for picking me up.” Ashanti yells. ‘You know I got you, you're family.” Joker says. Turning her attention to Sad Eyes, aka Angel Guzman, Mariana’s brother, she thinks about all the times he used to drive her and Mariana to the liquor store to get snacks for their sleepover, and how she would buy him a coke as a thank you, how he would smile at her making her blush like a schoolgirl, Mariana finally found out her best friend has a crush on her brother when Ashanti told her on a dare, of course like every girl who has a brother thinks EWW!! But later Mariana was glad it was her best friend, somebody who knows how to treat someone unlike Andrea Ramos. Ashanti didn't realize they were there until Sad Eyes tapped on her shoulder. “Are you coming Ash or are you going to sit in this car and stare off in the distance?” Sad Eyes chuckles. Seeing Sad Eyes giving both of his hands to help her out of the car made her start to feel like a schoolgirl over again. “They're here!! Freeridge newest College graduates Ashanti Turner and Mariana Guzman!!”Oscar Diaz, aka Spooky shouts out with a beer in the air in his left hand, once they made their appearance on Oscar's lawn. “Congratulations!! Proud of you!!” Oscar kissing both their foreheads before heading back to his Reina of 4 years Letty Mendez. “Gracias.” Both girls shout so he can hear them. Walking behind Joker and Mariana while Sad Eyes is walking beside her, she felt out of place, since some of Andrea's friends here giving her a glare once they saw her walking next to Sad Eyes. Sad Eyes must have felt her discomfort, grabbing her hand and bringing to his lips and giving it a kiss before saying “It will be okay, enjoy the party it's for you anyway, you and Mariana!!”. 2 hours have passed since arriving to the party and after dancing with Mariana, shaking her ass, letting loose.

Our Promise: A Brand New Day
So I finally got to watch Brand New Day (and rewatch Liz) courtesy of Tubi. THERE ARE MAJOR SPOILERS IN THIS POST.
Overall, a good continuation of the series themes (the tension between artistic passion and social mores), and quite interesting to see how the band's traumatic history continues to have reverberations in the present, even as fewer people have actually met the ruinous seniors in question.
There were some parts of the Mirei storyline that didn't breathe, and they seemed to have cut an entire storyline around Motomu, so those parts could have fared better in a show format, but a show format would also lose the intense focus exercise of Liz and the Blue Bird, as well as, UGH, stretching out the Shuichi storyline over time.
Which, by the way, was an extremely muddled effort. At least they did demonstrate that these two do have fun with each other, but Kumiko, girl, you are not into it. There's zero reason to make excuses about waiting, or the appropriate time to kiss. You are just not into it. And in the breakup scene, did she imply that he should wait until after competition season of the third year!? lol. And since competition season got cut short, shouldn't that open up space now, or is she going to pull college exams as an excuse, because SHE IS NOT ACTUALLY INTO IT? If she was, she wouldn't have compartmentalised Reina and Shuichi into "music" and "not-music." He's a section-or-grade leader! We literally see a case where Shuichi stopping to be a good trombone senpai gets in the way of Shuichi and Kumiko interacting, so it's established that Kumiko is incapable of connecting with him in a music context the way she does with Reina, and it's her choice to do so. Shuichi is ready and able. Honestly, there's not even a "bisexual Kumiko" reading here. The execution comes across that she's simply not into him as a romantic prospect, and I went into the film willing to grudgingly support the het if they made a case for it. Like, if this is REMOTELY what Japan's het teenage dating looks like, no wonder their birth rate is in the toilet lol.

One of the things that really stood out to me was how the different aesthetic styles impacted the effectiveness of the dub in BND vs. Liz. BND not only follows more anime conventions, but it forces most of the layered subtext of the characters to be carried by the voice acting, layers that it doesn't seem that the dub director seems to have picked up on.
First of all, Erica Mendez is NOT a good match for Kumiko, at all. Erica's good with bombastic extroverts like LWA's Akko. Kumiko needs to be someone who flies under the radar most of the time. Laura is too flat and muted as Reina. Doesn't capture her casual haughtiness, the ambition. (To be fair, Christina Vee and and Courtney Shaw weren't able to make Kumiko and Reina pop in their brief moments in Liz, to where I didn't even realize they were different VAs.) The clearest indictment of the dub director is Christine Marie Cabanos's Kanade, who does well with Kanade's big dramatic moments of upset, but fails to convey her manipulative layer in the first half of the film.
Everyone else is pretty good! Sarah Anne Williams and Megan Harvey are still excellent standouts as Natsuki and Yuuko. No wonder they were weren't recasted from Liz. Reba Buhr captures Asuka's charisma in her seconds of screentime. Kayli Mills rescues Midori from the moeblob pile into actual humanity!
In contrast, though, Liz is such a focused tonal exercise that many of its elements make it easier for the dub actors to find the layers. Every line has more time to breathe, but the script style is also more naturalistic dialogue to begin with, since they're chasing an atmosphere instead of narrative beats. In addition, all of the layers are there in the visuals, so the VAs aren't so dependent on the dub director pointing out the nuances they should capture. Finally, the arteeeestic cinematography of Liz means that much of the dialogue is not beholden to lipflaps, lol.
