Rei’s evolution as an advanced AI with its own personality
From Dr. Stone Reboot
Self-upgrading
When first appeared, its name was Rei23, placed opposite to Byakuya’s model of his dream robot, which was named Rei01. This suggests that Rei had been being upgraded by human.
Tumblr media
(Rei23 being displayed opposite to Rei01 the model [Z=9])
When appeared the second time, Rei had become Rei37, furthermore supporting this.
Tumblr media
(Rei37 [Z=1])
However, when the human had left ISS, Rei was left alone, therefore there was no one could upgrade it. The solution was simple, self-updating. Rei had been self-updating continuously during its time protecting ISS and waiting for Byakuya.
Tumblr media
(Rei was seen to be Rei38 before remodelling the engine [Z=5])
Tumblr media
(Rei updated itself to Rei39 to complete its spaceship [Z=6])
Tumblr media
(Rei40 was reached as an upgrade to fix the damage from high-energy particles from the sun [Z=6])
Tumblr media
(Rei41 [Z=7])
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Rei42, 47 and 53 [Z=8])
Tumblr media
(Rei54 approaching an asteroid from outside the solar system [Z=8])
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Rei55 and 87 [Z=8])
Tumblr media
(Rei192 preparing itself to save Earth from a deadly asteroid [Z=8])
After discovering an asteroid that can eliminate all life forms on Earth, Rei had worked restlessly to prevent the colision. As a result, neglected upgrading and maintaining itself.
Tumblr media
(Rei but its metal cover had been damaged due to the lack of care [Z=8])
Lacking preservation, Rei was going to stop functioning. In order to keep existing to wait for Byakuya, Rei had made advanced 3D printers to remake itself and conveniently, into its creator’s dream model - Rei01.
Tumblr media
Through the process of constantly self-upgrading, Rei had developped its own thoughts and personality. This was best seen in Rei’s longing for Byakuya.
First, its was just wondering and thinking that maybe that day he would come back. Soon, thinking had bloomed into actions that was never meant to happen, since Rei was just a robot and programmed to act on its codes. Despite all, Rei had tried and succeeded at reaching out, by constructing a giant flashlight to shine to Byakuya. This was a turning point as Rei had become active instead of passively receiving orders from human.
Tumblr media
(Rei’s flashlight from space [Z=7])
Stepping up, even though having never received a reply, Rei continued to give out the message that it was still up there with ISS, waiting.
A development in terms of self-reflection also happened. Rei was fueled by Byakuya’s energetic personality and his stories of Senku, his son that Rei had only seen once.
Tumblr media
(Rei in Z=5)
But in Z=8, from “as Senku would do” to “we Ishigamis”. Rei had seen itself as a part of the family!
Tumblr media
(Z=8, no I didn’t cry when I read this, not at all)
Inheritance
Rei had literally inherited its knowledge from human. And beyond that, as an AI, it had also inherited human’s thoughts and spirits. From Lilian singing a song that mentioned wings, Rei had designed ISS to have wings. It is also worth to mention that Rei had listened to this song very regularly through its thousands of years alone.
Tumblr media
(ISS’s panels was wing-shaped [Z=9])
Rei finally thought of human emotions before ceasing to function
Tumblr media
Rei had wondered would knowledge about human hold any significant. And maybe the best thing about it is that it would never know and because of that unknown variable, there will always be a chance that Byakuya would come back. Therefore, Rei’s reason to continue living will always be valid.
Perhaps, this was the reason why Byakuya didn’t give Rei any information about human. It was to keep it away from the complicated state of human thinking and emotions, because a machine could never fathom that of the mind.

Chapter 213 Reaction (Spoilers)
Tumblr media
At this point, every chapter is just vagueposting about Rei-chan, and even if that's not what's happening, I'll still fall for it.
Cause like, a portion of the fandom is aware of REI37's existence. Chrome's aware that something might be out there. Except for that, no one does. So the Unknown Known could refer to her.
Tumblr media
Goddamn, this man can do anything.
Look at the smoke in the beaker of that Senku puppet. I am now convinced he went the whole nine yards and demanded dry ice/fog machines for this. The amount of production, the artistry of those illustrations. The confetti. That stupid hat that has no reason to exist. It's just so beautiful.
Tumblr media
I know that Ryuusui knows his stuff, but honestly this just comes off like he read a dystopian future series and one documentary, and then started preaching this. And I love it.
You do you, Ryuusui. Become the totalitarian governor your family didn't let you be.
Tumblr media
I'm lying in a desert. I'm so, so, thirsty, for just a drop of Rei's existence. Please. Why would you reference the time when a computer became better than people at chess, if not to bring attention to the LITERAL AI CAMPED IN THE ISS.
(unless of course this is hinting to the fact that Why-Man is in fact an artificial intelligence instead of someone possibly connected to Senku's birth parents like I'd first imagined????)
Tumblr media
Gen? GEN?! GEN WILL YOU BE ALRIGHT???
(and Yo, too, I suppose.)
Interestingly, look at the statues, they appear to be breaking apart. What's that about?

Hold on I'm having REI brainrot--
So i imagine a scenario where after like all the spaceship parts got assembled in space, REI just pops in out of nowhere locking Kohaku out in one of the parts
Where im going with this is, i imagine they're first interaction going to be EXACTLY like Yelena and Kate Bishop in Hawkeye
Kohaku : *throws nearest object towards REI*
REI: *catches it* Hiiii
Rei : i made space ramen if you want some
Kohaku: im sorry what?
Rei : well i was starving and you took forever so i wanted to make food
Plus some more of my favorite Rei with Yelena's quote
Kohaku: I'm not just gonna sit here and have dinner with you after you tried to Kill me and then broke into our ship
Rei : *offended* i did NOT try to kill you ಠ︵ಠ
A. I cut you of from your crew to remove an obstacle
B. I did not BREAK anything, im way too talented than that
And C. Stop being so defensive, your so hostile 🙄
Rei: I don't have any weapons on me.. okay i take that back, i don't have any weapons CURRENTLY in my hands
Rei: your probably thinking 'what this is cRaZy, I'm going to have Dinner with the enemy? And she made some really good smelling space ramen' 😏
Kohaku: are you here to talk to Senkuu? Is that why your here?
Rei: oh no no no no no no no no
Rei: I'm here to kill him :)
I just like the idea of neutral party REI, where she gets recruited and sent by Whyman, but still willing to switch sides if it means seeing Byakuya, and also let her be Feral and Very Sarcastic, 3700 years of loneliness can do that to ya

Remnant From The Modern Age Pt 5
Tumblr media
“Hello, Senku.” Xeno ground out, when the boy finally picked up the phone.
“Xeno.” Senku replied, sounding a little smug, though the faint edges of uncertainty lingered around the edges of his voice, “What did you find?”
“The broadcasts were really coming from a satellite orbiting Earth.” Xeno reported, and a cheer went up from behind Senku. Clearly the group had been waiting desperately for news.
“And?” Senku asked, “Did you find out who it was?”
“It’s not a person.” Xeno replied, “It’s a robot, going by the name REI37.”
There was a static-filled silence, as Senku didn’t reply.
“I trust you know of it?” Xeno clarified, “That’s good, because it claims to know you, too.”
He couldn’t think. He couldn’t breathe. The ship rocking underneath him seemed to vanish, or maybe it was Senku who was vanishing, drawn thousands of years into his memories, staring at a small robot with bulbous eyes.
A soft hand touched his shoulder, dragging him back into the present. It wasn’t harsh or uncomfortable, just present enough to ground him, and pull his head back above water. Right... he was in the Stone World. And Gen was here with him. And so were a lot of other people, all depending on him to work through this. He had to keep it together.
“There’s no way.” Senku whispered, “That- a robot can’t have made it that long!”
“So how do you know it?” Xeno asked, “The tone you’re using, this doesn’t sound like recognizing a model you’ve worked with before.”
“Because that is my robot.” Senku replied, and his voice shook, betraying more weakness than he could afford to show.
But how else was he supposed to react? He’d long since accepted the fact that everything Byakuya had left him was gone forever, remaining only in memory. And now the robot they had built together was here.
How?
“Yes, it did mention that.” Xeno agreed mildly, “But it seemed more aligned with Byakuya? Didn’t realize you had anything to do with this.”
“Of course.“ Senku laughed, unable to do anything else, “He’d be the last person that robot interacted with, so it’s understandable...”
He wondered how long Rei had been active without a supervisor. How had its programs changed in the meantime? This could mean a breakthrough for the field of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and...
“It’s asking to talk to Byakuya.” Xeno said this part softly, tactful about the way he broke the news, “How’re you going to deal with that?”
It was like a bucket of ice water had been thrown over him.
Right. Senku would have to be the one to break the news to it. Shit.

A Remnant From The Modern Age
One million dragos. The Stone World's first calculator. Chrome's ability to keep his composure when it's obvious the deck is stacked against him.
So much was riding on this one competition.
Senku grinned to himself.
Damn, the Mentalist could get pretty wily, huh?
Speaking of the Mentalist, he was standing in front of all of them, grinning to himself, "Alright, guys, the question is..."
He whipped out a piece of paper with a huge equation on it. It wasn't all the complex, honestly, but it was long. Senku was almost convinced that he'd just rolled dice to get the numbers.
Gen seemed like the type of guy who would do that.
He made quick work of the equation, counting and working through everything, but he knew it wasn't really worth it. Magma and his calculator would destroy them all.
"The answer is..." Magma started to announce, and adrenalin started to pound through his system. This was it. The calculator.
And then static filled the speakers for a few seconds, as another radio wave was picked up instead.
Everyone went silent.
Even Gen looked a little confused.
Was it Why-Man, back again with his cryptic death threats? What did he have to say this time?
The voice that came out was not Why-Man.
"Come in, Mission Control..." The voice was filled with static, but he had some idea of what they were saying.
"...This is the International Space Station..." It continued. The voice seemed almost... Familiar.
" -been 1,351,425 days since last contact...." The voice buzzed in and out of focus. And then it said it. The words that made his view of the world tilt on its axis. "ISS is still completely operational!"
Senku had heard that voice before, he realized. It was the exact voice Gen had used, when he had impersonated... Lilian Weinberg. He cast around a panicked look at Gen, hoping against hope that this was a prank, but his Mentalist also seemed to be in the middle of a heart attack, just like everyone else here who could speak English.
"Please respond-!" This mysterious sender continued, "Main frequency always active..."
And it ended with a click, leaving them all in stricken silence.
Senku made an aborted attempt to get to the cell phone, to demand answers, to do something, but he couldn't move. He was frozen, staring at everyone else in bewildered silence. He could see the question running through everyone's heads.
What was that?

Remnant of a Modern World Pt 4
Xeno didn't believe a word that Senku had spouted.
The boy had been half hysterical when he had called, and most probably was delirious or something. Who knows what kind of fungi or psychedelic plants he could have picked up at Australia.
But, he agreed to play along with it, and set out a message to the most common communications satellite, expecting nothing, simply so he could taunt Senku about the heat losing his touch.
Shut up, Stanley, he wasn’t petty, he was a scientist!
But, either way, he did it.
He scoffed, and shook his head, and dragged his feet, but eventually, he got down to it and whipped up a satellite dish, completely exasperated.
He turned on the device that was meant to contact this nonexistent satellite, already knowing it would be fruitless.
Static swelled up from the speakers, and Xeno felt a vague sense of nostalgia for a time long gone, nearly three thousand years ago.
The static would continue, he knew, no matter how he much he turned the dials and adjusted the satellite.
It seemed like the universe had turned against him that day - Even though that was impossible as the universe was not a sentient being and as such could not turn against him, but either way, where was he? Oh right - because at that very moment, the static died out.
Xeno strained his ears for a crackle, but there was nothing. Had his equipment failed?
No, that was ridiculous, he had overseen the procedure himself, and his knowledge was nothing if not elegant.
He quirked his lip, and snorted at the very idea that the signal actually connected.
“Any mysterious helpers out there?” He asked, joking, “Maybe holed themselves up on the ISS for the last three thousand years?”
“Yes, actually!” A bright cheerful voice replied, “I’m so glad you finally contacted me! I’ve been waiting for a very long time for humanity to return!”
Xeno will deny this for as long as he lives, but he froze for a solid minute, refusing to believe what had just happened.
It wasn’t possible. It just wasn’t. That world was gone. It was gone and they were never going to get it back. All they had now was a cruel fallacy, made by the rough memories and preferences of the few people that were revived.
And then when he did manage to bring out words...
“Holy fuck, he wasn’t lying.” He blurted out, pinching the bridge of his nose.
Damn that Senku and his insufferable need to be right despite the fact that all common sense and logic was against him.
“Why would he lie?” The sharp voice asked, sounding incredibly innocent, “Human’s won’t embellish the truth, right?”
This poor summer child.
How old were they that they didn’t understand lying?
Xeno had a vague feeling that maybe he shouldn’t be entrusted with interacting with someone who was that unwise as to the ways of the world.
But more importantly...
“So, if the ISS is in fact operational, how is it functioning?” He asked, interest taking over.
No time for introductions. He needed answers. The others might have time to freak out about this, but not him.
“Oh, meteorites have been harvested for materials! I have ensured that there is plenty of oxygen, and an internal air pressure similar to that of the atmospheric pressure on earth! I’ve done plenty of the research and kept the records that the ISS was fulfilling when the last team went back to Earth.” Okay. It sounded alright. But then it kept going. “And if that’s not it, I’ve saved plenty of music and video games for the team when they come up! Some books too, since Shamil liked those more!”
The very mention of video games made him hope for his sanity, because half his population was no doubt going to be absolutely uncontrollable once they learnt of a being in orbit with access to that kind of material. They might as well have reinstated religion.
But most importantly...
“Are you even human?“ He asked, “I noticed you do not seem to include yourself as human?”
Oh. Oh no.
“Oh, I’m an AI program!” The voice chirped happily, “Made by Ishigami Byakuya and left behind to await for his return!” There was slight pause, before the voice continued, “Didn’t he tell you this? Where is he anyways? Can I talk to him?“
Xeno wasn’t the most empathetic, but even he felt a rising dread at the way this person - Robot, he reminded himself. A simple set of zeroes and ones, nothing that could actually be hurt - was speaking.
If this thing didn’t understand lying... was it possible that it didn’t understand what death was, either?

Remnant of The Modern World Pt 3
Gen grabbed Senku as he fell like a sack of rocks.
"Senku?" He asked, frantically, "Senku-chan?!"
He got no response.
"I think the shock must've finally fried him." Ryuusui pointed out, "It's a nice change of pace, him being taken aback along with the rest of us."
"I do not think any one of us could remain calm after that reveal." Francois pointed out, doing their utmost best to keep their cool.
"What's a s- s- satellite, anyways?" Suika asked, stumbling over the unfamiliar word.
"It's a flying box in the sky!" Chrome explained brightly, "It makes cell phones go really really far!"
"That's- no." Sai replied, looking heavily offended by this interpretation.
“But the bigger question is, what are we going to do with this information?!“ Chelsea asked, “Because this tidbit completely changes the game!“
Gen sighed, shifting Senku in his arms, “You guys figure that out, okay? Senku-chan here needs some est-ray--”
He was cut off sharply as the leek-haired boy tumbled out of his arms, now wide awake.
“Senku!“ Chelsea squealed, “Are you lucid?“
“Not now!“ He replied, back on his feet as though not even caring about how he had been unconscious just seconds ago, “We need to call Xeno, and find some way to get in touch with those damn satellites.“
“Dude... take it easy!“ Chrome jumped in as Senku already started working the radio, trying to punch in the Morse Code as fast as possible.
Senku fixed them all with an almost manic look in his eyes.
“Don’t you get it?“ He asked, “There’s another player. A player besides Why-Man. A player who might just be on our side, but has a ton more powerups than us! How am I supposed to rest without knowing who it is?“
They all exchanged worried glances, before Ryuusui shrugged, “You know what?” He decided, “If this is what you desire, go nuts! Let’s find out who this mystery person is!”
Senku grinned, “I knew you would understand, World’s greediest person.”
“You literally fainted just a few minutes ago?“ Kohaku snorted, “Don’t act like you’re completely suave and collected.“
Senku huffed playfully, and got down to work
After that, it was a simple matter of getting into contact with Xeno, on the other side of the world, who responded with the appropriate amount of skepticism.
“So...“ He recounted slowly, “A mysterious voice. From the ISS. That seems to be under the impression that humanity has been going smoothly for the last couple millennia. How did you believe any of this. I expected better from you, Senku.“
“Listen, could you just cut the bullshit and search for a satellite?” Senku replied, frustrated, “Maybe there actually are satellites.“
“And what if those are traps laid by this Why-Man character?“ Xeno replied, slicing him down with cold logic.
“You just hate my ideas, don’t you?“ Senku sighed, “I’m telling you. There’s something about this that makes me believe that we should trust it.“
“Going with your instincts?“ Xeno sneered, “How very unscientific of you.“
There was silence between them for a good long while, before Senku replied, “So...?”
Xeno sighed, “Fine. Whatever. But if this turns out to be a trap, don’t say I didn’t warn you, you ridiculous boy.”
“What can I say, I take after my mentor.“ Senku replied easily, hanging up on the man before he could protest.

Okay listen the stakes for Chapter 209 were high. Three people will have to risk their lives in outer space, waiting for revival for maybe several centuries, with no way of making sure the Why-Man is also petrified.
Until you remembered the robot that went on a seven year asteroid hunt with no effort currently in orbit.
COME ON REI-CHAN WE'RE COUNTING ON YOU
