7. your favorite tropes to read/write/draw
When I used to do art for Sky, I really liked to accentuate the diamonds on kids and adults' backs and chests. It wasn't anything based in strict canon but the aesthetic of a star or an eye in the back where one can never see it but others can, was something I liked.

I don't read much fic in any fandom but once I was dying in the trenches of Stargate fic machine (dead), and I really, really liked the works that introduced different solutions to the show's plot. Not fix-its, but rather completely different fuckups entirely.
One of my big favorites even now remains a fic whose entire premise was "what if the soviets went to the pegasus galaxy instead of the usa?". It was hilarious and genius. And lead to just as fucked consequences.
I still like inserting what-ifs (but not necessarily fix-its) in various universes :)

23. Did you do any collaborative works this year?
Ugh, no, but not for lack of trying! I keep thinking that a This is How You Lose the Time War AU would be the perfect collaboration AU for a time travel fic – setup chapter, three chapters from each POV + a letter from the other, closing chapter, done!!! But I am going on year three(?) of failing to convince anyone to write it, either with me or on their own. sigh.
26. What's your most common category?
F/M – unless it's a one-shot I always struggle a little with categories because there's a lot of stuff going on in a fic of any length, but I figure the main purpose of the category is the primary ship(s) so f/m it is!

Last song: Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand, by Primitive Radio Gods. And then something on the radio in the car, but I don't remember what.
Currently watching: Monster. Anime show I caught some episodes of years ago and now I'm working through it from the start. I'd seen later episodes previously, so it's interesting seeing more of the backtory. It is a Very Serious sort of show.

Current obsession: Food preservation techniques because the cherry harvest is a big one this year (and not done yet, as the sour cherries aren't quite ready) and I'm going to do some canning for once rather than just freeze everything. I thought, hey, no reason I can't make fancy jarred cherries myself.
...this probably meant fandom stuff :D Ahem. I finished gathering notes from the Grishaverse books and stories for the next in the Food and Drink in Ravka series and I'm busily assembling things into posts. Hopefully post one can go up in the next few days or so, as I wrap up the supplemental research.

🫐 What’s your favorite underrated thing in your fandom? (A ship that only you seem to write for, a character there’s almost no fics about, a trope that criminally hasn’t been written yet, etc.)
- I think the darker aspects of Mohg/Miquella aren't explored enough in fandom. Both in art and writing.
- I think Marika is an untapped market.
- I think Solas Dragon Age needs more fan content where he pines after a non-elf Inquisitor. The angst and cognitive dissonance would tear his brain apart. Also needs more gay content.
- I think Cullen Dragon Age has a criminal lack of fan content where he gets railed by hot men OR buff Qunari women wearing strap-ons.
Honorable mention: I think Varré Elden Ring has untapped fanfic potential specifically regarding deeper character exploration. Lots of smut but significantly less "why is he Like That". He's a blank slate people, go nuts!

💕 What's your favorite thing about FFVII or surrounding games?
i think cloud is so funny. i really need to play ffvii fully one of these days (perhaps the remake when its done) and i'm not entirely sure the pace or extent to which they reveal this in main game, but going into crisis core with my only knowledge of cloud being "he's the really special cool protagonist guy who has like a soul bond with sephiroth and Has To Defeat Him as like a metaphor for personal demons or like the horrors of what capitalism can create or something" and then finding out he's literally just some guy with every mental illness ever. instantly he became one of my favorite protagonists of anything ever. they really did that! AND he's a drug addict <3

Blorbo bingo: Veldstadt?
O Velstadt, the Royal Soundtrack, my very beloved.
To be honest, I don't really feel like the writers balled on him, however his bossfight could definitely use to be harder.
Everything about him most of the time comes from items of other characters or in relation to them, which I like. It's a nice touch, to show how selfless he must have been acting, regardless of his true feelings and intentions, or thoughts. Truly, only a shield (the danger's inside the house).
Making him worse and plotting his demise go hand in hand because I would love to see him Darker, actively displaying signs of corruption even before the game's events. He is hinted to originate from the Sunken City, also a very Dark-themed location, so it could have been present even before he came to Vendrick's court!
Has done nothing wrong thus :) Can be considered a war criminal if he participated in the war against the Giants? But I don't believe we have canon proof he was there, so...
Underrated because Raime is right there. And better. AND stronger.

🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?
Wildest ride for myself and probably for readers both -- definitely The Shadow of War, mostly because I had nooooo idea what I was getting myself into. I wrote a scene for an "Alina and the Darkling at the zoo" prompt, then decided to try another scene, and 18 months later had a novel-length story. I learned a lot about writing, and about how I write, in the process. I figured out how to resolve tricky plot issues on my walk to work, on the top of a glacier, in a gas station parking lot in the Middle East – getting it done was truly a global effort.
I also drafted another totally unrelated 130k word story while I was writing it? I mean the whole thing was wild.

There was a chunk of time when I wanted to be an astrophysicist. Looking back, the odds were rather stacked against little me on that one for multiple reasons. But I still wish I could have gotten into that Astronomy class I really wanted to a bit later on in time. (Thanks a lot, singular year the high school just had to try 'barn registration' and hosed my schedule from the start.)
Uhh, let's see....for a long time I struggled to identify constellations. And then one day, er, one night, I was out with the dog and looking at the sky and thought....oh hey, is that Orion? And it was. And some time later on, same thing happened with Cassiopeia and then the Big Dipper. It was like I could suddenly tell they were there.
