When I was studying in Oxford, UK, I know some delivery services such as Royal Mail, parcel force, DHL, etc. I was enjoying the great services there. But, when I came back to my city, Shanghai, I immediately feel that the delivery service in Shanghai is far better than their peers in U.K. without any doubt. Why? It's faster, more cost-friendly and easier to know where my parcel is (the app). But, that comes some issues. The first thing is about the punctuality. There are strict KPI (key performance index system) in the industry. So, a delivery's primary task is to delivery parcels on time. Then, they need to continuously increase their efficiency to delivery more parcels by using less time. This is Japanese business culture. Meanwhile, a good service is not just about punctuality and efficiency, it also means zero negative customer feedback. Once, they are given bad feedback from customers, they lose their bonus. As a result, they run the red light, overload parcels and there's a potential conflict among the customers, delivery men, the delivering company and the social public. That becomes a social issue. One reason mentioned in an article is that the delivery man's entry level is quite low. If you can ride a bike and finished primary school, welcome onboard. So, they don't have the power to say no to these strict requirements. When they need to break the traffic rules, they have to risk their lives and other people's lives. And, they just want to finish their task and get their pay for mission complete. That's sad.
