channeling energy (Minthara x Tav)
It takes Minthara some time to come to terms with the force that Gan is.
Someone being so in sync with her and wasn't trying to kill her to take it all was like a fever dream. All the right words are said, almost all the right moves are made, Minthara found it unsettling at first. Many nights she wanted to push into Gan's mind to really find out if there was a dagger waiting for her. The one night her curiosity got the better of her and she did, it was illuminating and incredibly frustrating.
Gan felt Minthara's tadpole engaging hers as they got situated in Rivington. She knew it couldn't really be anyone else because it was a sensation she'd known before with Minthara given how she often intruded into her thoughts long before now. Minthara hadn't done it since before the shadow cursed lands when she last saw her after the party so Gan was a little annoyed at the intrusion now. She dropped the bag she'd been holding and stared at her, waiting for her to use her words. It surprised Minthara for a moment before she finally tells her.
She wanted to know if this was all a dream. If she had to be worried that they would eventually end up on opposing sides. Gan looks at her before finally agreeing to let her in. Minthara is hesitant at first. She had to admit to herself that her intrusion was not entirely about finding out if she was only a rest away from a dagger to her throat, not unlike how she'd once done to her. Whispers of companionship had also crossed her mind. She knew the elf was coupled with the vampire spawn. She'd seen them cavorting about but he was of no consequence to her, he barely registered as a threat, let alone a rival. Minthara did find it puzzling how such a formidable person had gotten tangled up with such a fiend but being on the surface had introduced her to many strange customs.
The two of them went into the barn, away from prying eyes, and allowed their minds to mingle.
Minthara pushed in, gently at first, bracing for whatever lie in the thick of it all. She found herself greeted by hesitation of Gan wondering if they should trust them then admirable scenes of the two of them side by side slicing and smiting their foes. It brings Minthara joy to see them removing threats to their claim. But then Minthara pushed further and saw something a lot more personal. The two of them embracing each other by firelight. Gan lying beneath her, hands palming her ass, running her tongue along the edge of her ear. Quickly nibbling its point as she slides her hand further down until it reaches warmth.
Minthara pulls back. It is a revelation indeed. She tells her that she is a little surprised, not that they had not connected physically before. But the vision Gan had shown her held far more intimacy than she anticipated.
She reached for her hand, letting her know her feelings were not one sided. Then she had to lay everything out - that she did not share those she cared about.
Gan runs her thumb across the back of her hand, along a freshly healed scar. She understood that Minthara felt that way but she could not live like that. She told her how she grew up in a family with many parents who all loved and embraced each other freely. She found it incredibly selfish to want to consume someone wholly when you are capable of loving many as love and the capacity to love was not finite. The irony wasn't lost on Gan how she could be unapologetically selfish in so many aspects of her life but loving and sharing herself with others was not one of them. She understood that Minthara felt how she did but she was not one to hoard her affection for others. Gan grabbed her hand and pressed a kiss to her palm as she stood up.
She valued Minthara, not only as an ally but as someone she was starting to care about in a sense, but she would not be made to conform to someone else's definition or expectations. And so Minthara takes that knowledge and response in stride.
It was not her way and she knew the surface folk moved very differently than those in the Underdark. She couldn't fathom having to share her affections with others because when she loved, she only wanted to love one.
But time and insight had a way of bringing clarity. When they were engaged they were no less attended to than the spawn was. Even if it hadn't been in a romantic capacity at the time, Minthara felt no less important to her. Minthara slowly came to see what Gan meant. It may not have been her way but it was a sight to see and to be a part of. So when she finally decided she was willing to partake, she did so with the full knowledge that she wouldn't feel lesser.

I was thinking about the first time post game that Gan writes Astarion a "love letter"
And how he's a super dick about it at first "why would I want something so trivial? It's beneath me." Turning his nose up at it, he's offended by something so low class being given to him.
Gan gives it to him anyway and tells him "do whatever you want. burn it, rip it up, keep it. I don't care." They go on about their business. They still write them. He still turns his nose up.
They test his ass and stop after the fourth one. He'd gotten one a month (before Gan started traveling when they switch to weekly if they'll be gone long).
He notices when he doesn't get the 5th one but is too arrogant to say anything.
When the 6th doesn't arrive, he's a dick about it.
"What happened to your little missives? Finally realized they were worthless drivel..."
Gan doesn't take the bait though.
Gan just tells him "well you said it was beneath you and I don't want to offend the Lord of the house."
And they leave it at that.
He sees them in the garden one day seven months later and he still hasn't gotten a letter from them. Gan still writes them but doesn't give them to him cause he's being an inconsiderate and hurtful brat.
They're outside writing Minthara one though. Minthara cherishes the fuck out of hers 😆😆😆
He joins them on the bench and looks over their shoulder and sees them writing one. He comments that they shouldn't bother wasting the parchment and ink and that he won't accept it.
Gan only remarks that's fine because it's not for you 🤷🏾♀️
He doesn't like their response and snatches it from them in a fit. And Gan just calmly puts the quill down and stares at him.
He pouts that no one should find these letters sweet or charming. How it's just fancy words that aren't worth anything. And Gan stands up and remarks "you seem really angry about something that is beneath you."
And they grab their quill and papers and head back inside. He reads what they were writing to Minthara and it pisses him off a lot. He rips it up, yells at one of the staff to clean up the mess, and goes inside to read his cause the asshole never opened his letters.
So he finally reads what they say. Gan usually just writes a very small poem or something they love about them or expresses gratitude for their presence...occasionally something erotic (the one they were writing for Minthara at that time was erotic LMAO)
But the first one they wrote was reassuring him that they were in this together for however long they could be (they were not a vampire at the time).
The second one was a reminder about the day they told him about his pet name and how that was a huge step for them to share that with him.
The third one was a poem they'd seen in a book that reminded them of him.
The fourth one that they gave him simply said "for all the things I've done in this life, committing to you was one of the best."
And he feels like such a dumbass but he doesn't want to admit it. Too proud, too arrogant, too much of a jerk.
So he takes all of them and carefully places them into a blank leather bound book (I'm imagining a photo album type book equivalent) and he puts a ward on it and stores it away.
Finally approaches Gan later that evening. He doesn't want to apologize but he does want to tell them that maybe getting the letters isn't so terrible (he also really liked what they were writing to Minthara and he's slightly jealous because of course he is that he hasn't gotten an erotic one 🙄)
So he decides to curl up with them on a couch/bench/whatever piece of furniture and they enjoy each other's company for a while. He hesitates for a good part of the evening to even address his rude fucking behavior earlier that day.
But then Gan is like "alright I need to go rewrite something because you were an asshole and ruined something of mine."
And he grabs their wrist as they're walking away from where he remained seated. And he actually apologizes. Like actually says the words and not his typical "address it but not appropriately or adequately" kind of way.
In a moment of honesty, he just apologizes for destroying the parchment. He doesn't say he was wrong though 🙄
But he apologizes for behaving like that. Gan just says okay and leaves the room. He's miffed he wasn't forgiven but doesn't complain.
When they are in bed later that night, he quietly mentions that he'd like to start getting them again (and actually apologizes for his behavior a second time!).
Gan doesn't acknowledge him right then, they just go into trance.
When he wakes up the next day, Gan is gone already doing their evil overlord shit.
But he notices two sealed letters on the nightstand from the 5th and 6th months and he smiles a little to himself.
Just "hmmm they still wrote them anyway" and he's relieved on the inside that they did.
The 5th month's letter was his erotic one 😂

Because they are on my mind this morning...
I truly believe Briva and Zevran saved each other. Briva had no qualms about dying after rescuing her cousin and neighbors. She was ready to go down fighting right there in the alienage cause fuck shems thinking they can do whatever they want. Duncan saved her then but that feeling of fuck it, it's whatever never went away. After finding out about the ritual's effects and what it meant for her life, her attitude was just whatever, it is what it is. If she was meant to die then she would. It made her dangerous but reckless and Alistair and Sten were the only ones willing to tell her (in their own ways...well Sten was straightforward but still) you need to chill out a little bit. "I'm ready to die" was always in the back of her mind whenever they got into a fight. It was always the last one to her.
And then there was Zevran...
The assassin who failed miserably at his task thanks to the dangerously reckless elf standing over him as he came to, hoping he'd died himself. He pledged himself to her cause despite his own internal death wish. And despite everyone's protests, as Briva stood over him that day, she reached her hand out and said come with me.
Then one night after dinner, sitting near each other by the fire, Zevran asked her if she wanted to have a little fun and Briva said sure. And they continued fighting and continued having fun, until one day Briva decided to ask him sincerely to hang out together. Never mind that they'd seen every inch of each other and did things with each other that some didn't until at least 3 dinners and a drink together. It was the first time that both of them were just honest with each other. And so that night the two of them just talked. They talked honestly and openly and without judgment and they talked so long that the sun began rising and the camp began stirring. That night was the turning point for them. Not all the wonderfully delicious sex they'd had but the night the two of them let their guards down fully and really exposed themselves to each other. It was uncharted territory for both of them but they embraced it and walked on together.
From then on, they watched out for each other a little more. A throwing knife into a dark spawn who was getting a little too close. Sand thrown in the eyes of a bandit swinging in the other's vicinity. It was a bit of a dance for the two of them as they watched over each other while cutting down foes. They'd developed not only a harmony but a friendship then a relationship that was new for them both but a journey they'd decided on together.
And so the night before the archdemon's army reached Denerim, they laid together in silence, wrapped in each other's arms. Neither knowing what to say exactly but wanting to cherish the moment like it was the last. As Zevran slept soundly beside her, Briva thought to herself that she wasn't ready to die anymore. She wanted another day, another night, and to have many more with him at her side, in her bed, and in her heart. And she promised to him as he slept, "I will come back to you." With a renewed purpose, she was determined to not allow this battle to make a liar out of her.

I'm not exactly sure how I got here but I definitely HC both Gan and Astarion have a thing for hands.
They often reach for each other and just hold hands. Rubbing their thumbs across the back of the other's hand. Kissing palms. Lacing their fingers together. Kissing (and playing biting) hands and fingers. Kissing fingertips. Licking and sucking on fingers. Pulling hands across their chests and holding them there. Who fell first? Who fell harder?
I've mentioned it before in a different meta post I made but Astarion was first on both fronts.
With his confession, he'd put it out there that he'd grown to like/enjoy whatever was developing between them (not that Gan knew at the time cause they thought it was just two people having fun!). It took Gan some time before they were approaching the same level as him. They never verbally told him that because they never would have heard the end of it but they're just slower to warm up either way. Living like they did pre-tadpole, they kept personal connections to the bare minimum because having them could be used against you or get you killed. So they had to learn to make space for whatever was to come between them and Astarion. He'd put himself out there so Gan figured they should decide if they could grow to feel similarly.

do gan and astarion have any or many pets post-canon? who of the companions gets scratch? any headcanons for the other beasts (owlbear, his majesty, myshka, etc.) in-game? any headcanons for pet oc's?
They definitely get pets post-canon! Forget what Larian says 🙄
Gan loves animals despite being a nomad for so long (post game is the first time they actually settle down in many decades). Scratch is with Gan and Astarion. When he's not with them, he's with Minthara. Big (owlbear cub) spends time either in a cabin that Gan and Astarion purchased just outside the city or on the road with Shadowheart (who also uses the cabin when necessary). Gan eventually gets two ferrets (Kiwi and Pumpkin) that live in Baldur's Gate with them. I HC that Astarion went back for His Majesty (with the promise of milk daily lol) and it traveled along from post Act 2 and lives with them (they tried to bring Steelclaw too but it wasn't having it lol).
Some HCs about the pets:
Astarion tries to rename all the pets (except His Majesty because their name is regal 🙄😆). He tells Gan he can't chat about how well his kids are doing with names like Scratch and Big. Gan tells him he's ridiculous and leave the kids alone. Scratch never answers to the name Astarion tries to give him when called (Aevan). Big argues with Astarion about his name (Thel) and refuses it. Kiwi and Pumpkin ignore him too (Nyl & Nym). He gets no respect from the kids on this and eventually abandons his efforts 🤣
Gan trains Scratch to "fetch" Astarion when he's in bat form. Gan will just say Scratch go get your father and Scratch comes back eventually with a flapping bat in its mouth lol. He'll wait until Gan opens their hand to take Batstarion from them.
Big likes to cuddle with all their siblings when they visit the cabin. While Scratch, Kiwi, and Pumpkin will curl right up and on top of Big and nap or snuggle, His Majesty declines but will curl up in close proximity.

Is there a spot they tend to kiss or caress habitual?
Astarion likes to kiss their hands - fingertips, palm, back of their hand, all of it. He caresses their lower back.
Gan likes to kiss his jaw (in the highlighted spot in particular) if they're close enough to reach it lol. And if he's being a dick about it, they just pull him down by the collar. Gan likes to caress his forearms.
Minthara likes to kiss Gan along that area between the neck and shoulder and caressing their neck.
Gan likes to kiss the inside of Minthara's wrists and caress the sides of her stomach.

So the first time Gan cooks one of their favorite foods for the people they care about (familial, platonic & romantic):
Family - it was shortly after their mom Darnesi taught them how to make plum cobbler so they could make their obsession with plums last longer lol. Their older brother Faesin helped them because they wanted to surprise everyone and he didn't want them to injure themselves in all of their excitement.
Astarion - Venison roast within a few weeks of the "luxuries of man" returning to him. They went out hunting for a few days and returned to their cabin with the spoils (Big was very happy to go out hunting with them; seeing how excited Big was, Gan made a promise that they'd go hunting together sometimes when Big wasn't traveling with Shadowheart). After they finally got everything prepped and ready, they sent word for Astarion to come join them for a romantic dinner in a few days. Astarion showed up and was treated to venison roast with red wine sauce, roasted root vegetables, and a plum tart.
Minthara - Cheesy mushroom galette a little after some respite post end game events (before epilogue though). A quiet evening in a little inn, Gan swings by with dinner in hand for her Star. A hearty galette and a bottle of wine for a night snuggled up.
Shadowheart - Cranberry orange hot cross buns before she sets back out on her personal journey. Gan and Astarion were spending some time at their cabin just to get away from the bustling city while Shadowheart was there resting up. She'd been there almost two weeks and was ready to head back out with Big. Gan decides to send her off with a few treats for the sweet tooth that she swears she doesn't have while thinking no one notices her satchel is filled with candy pops.
@omgkalyppso Étoile - Plum hand pies for the other sweets lover in her life a little after the epilogue. Gan wasn't sure how they hadn't noticed the way Étoile always had something a little sweet, whether it was sweetening their tea or sucking on a honey pop. And so one day before Étoile wakes on a day they're set to depart from the cabin for a while, Gan wakes up early to have some treats ready for her Sweet.

I'm under the impression that Gan does kiss both Astarion and Minthara in Act 1 (or otherwise experiences each their Act 1 intimate scenes), is this accurate?
And sorry for anyone uninterested, but this is leading into my asking: If Étoile were part of their story, when do you think they would act on any interest in one another to best flow with Gan's story and other relationships? I doubt it would be as late as post-canon, but I default to your interpretation.
Yes, Gan does get with both of them in Act 1. I haven't quite settled on if Gan sleeps with Astarion before the party & Minthara at the party or not though that's probably the most likely for their canon...
So for Étoile 🤔 I think it would depend on when they'd show interest in some capacity. Astarion and Minthara showed their interest early, Gan was like yeah ok I'm with it, and things happened lol. I get the sense Étoile would show interest very early Act 2 for some reason but feel free to let me know I'm wrong 😂

👀: Describe their physical appearance in as much detail as possible. Facial features, colors, height, build, etc.
Gan's face and body claim (only change I've only made was make her hair more red). Other notable details: Gan's 5ft tall, has no tattoos in the BG3 universe, and is absolutely covered in freckles 🥰
👃: Do they smell like anything in particular? Why do they smell like that?
Gan usually smells very woodsy and spicy and occasionally herbaceous if they're wearing perfume or using their favorite soaps and oils- leather, cedarwood, sandalwood, oak, pink peppercorn, black pepper, ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, sage, basil. There's no real reason other than most of those scents agree with her chemistry and they are familiar and comforting.
🏷️: What is their full name? Do any of their names have any special meaning? How did you come up with them?
Full name is Ilina Enaelia Gavren. She does have a name at home in the forest but it isn't shared outside of Wealdath. She typically goes by Gan to the world or Lia to family, some friends and some lovers. How I came up with it (outside of her first name): I went to a name generator, wrote down a few names I liked, took parts of those and made her name lol.
🌳: What physical traits did they inherit from their biological parents? Do they look more like one parent than the other?
I like to think she inherited her father's complexion as far as skin tone and freckles and his height because he's a shorty too (her mom is taller than both of them). Her hair is a lot more red than his though.
🎨: What is their color scheme? Or at least colors you associate them with?
Their scheme in game usually changed with the acts. Act 1 was more red/black. Act 2 was fuschia/black. Act 3 was gray/red at the start then mint green/pink/apricot/dark beige after the temple.
In general, their color scheme revolves around greens, pinks, reds, and browns the most.

D&D Character Asks - Gan
1. What influenced or inspired the creation of this character?
They were originally created in the Dragon Age universe as a cousin to my HoF, Briva Tabris. I wanted my Tabris to have some family for post DAO and decided on a cousin that would travel with her (since I didn't want Shianni or Soris to fill that role). I've brought them over to BG3 now (which I'm basing these asks off of) because they weren't tied to another central story and they are my evil/morally dubious character for RPing those things.
5. What creature would they like to have as a pet?
A ferret - I've made their love of ferrets carry over to multiple universes where I've used them (Dragon Age, Fallout New Vegas, Wasteland 3, Baldur's Gate 3). Why I chose ferrets, I couldn't tell you but I think they are adorable lol
7. Is there anyone they’d die for? Kill for?
Die for? Absolutely not. Let's get one thing clear, Gan dies for no one. Kill for though? A handful of folks - Astarion, Minthara, Shadowheart, Étoile (@omgkalyppso OC), Ixbalam (@meishuu OC), Penelope (@bhaalbaaby OC), and their family if they ever decided to get over their self imposed exile from them.

9. How would this character react to someone confessing their love for them?
So it depends on the circumstances but if we're talking about the normal one of someone they're involved with, it still depends LOL.
If it's a situation where they weren't expecting it because they had completely different ideas of what they had with the other person, they would listen and gauge whether or not they needed to say those words back to them. If they can get by without having to say them and just react kind of similarly through action to keep the person from being brokenhearted they will do that instead.
If they are kind of expecting it and they feel a bit like the other person, they will verbally express caring about the person but not love.
A confession of your love for them does not guarantee they will be confessing love for you. Only when they are ready will love be expressed 🤷🏾♀️

Gan is 138 at the start of Baldur's Gate 3
18. What is their favorite spell or method of attack?
Method of attack - melee sneak attack with daggers coated in a paralytic poison
General spell - Disguise Self

💛 What are their favorite activites to do together?
Shara loves to cook with Gale. Almost every time he cooked in camp, she'd be there watching and listening to him as he told stories. Once they're romantically involved, she just has her chance to kiss and tease him as he cooks.
Gale starts meditating with her. He found the whole mind clearing, inner peace thing intriguing enough. It was a disaster the first dozen times because Gale couldn't really get into a place to do it. Eventually Shara could get him to meditate with her for like 45 minutes or so before he'd get up, press a soft kiss to her temple or shoulder and let her continue on for the next few hours alone.
💜 How do they silently show love or affection towards the other?
I think for both of them a lot of their silent shows of affection involve just being together no matter what they're doing. Gale's at his desk working on lesson plans, Shara will be seated in a chair close by sketching him. Shara's on the balcony meditating, Gale will be on his bench with a book or three reading.
❤️ Who is the more romantic one? Do they wish their partner was more romantic?
Gale definitely is the more romantic one. The man conjures weave universes to whisk her away to cause no he doesn't stop doing it no matter how much she tells him he doesn't have to. She ain't trying to compete with that though 😂
Her romantic gestures revolve around the practical - carrying him to bed when he's fallen asleep on the balcony with a book in his lap and his spectacles still on, bringing back rare tomes for him from her journeys, sheet music from places that he can play on the piano, spices from places he doesn't have already, stuff like that. I don't think Gale would consider it an issue though. Their romantic gestures are just shown differently.
💚 Which one is more kind-hearted and who angers easily first?
Gale is more kind hearted in general. Shara can anger easily but never with him. For her, it'd be better to say she gets frustrated easier. When it comes to actual anger, the orc blood still runs a bit hot with enemies or anyone who really really annoys her though lol. Outside of those instances, she's fairly chill. She is kind to those close to her.
