Spider spectre I’m interested. And love ourple
okay okay. so.
spectre spider is my spider sona, and so far what ive got is:
River (she/her) is a college student who is interested in cryptids and stuff, so when she suddenly discovers she has spider powers? what better thing to do than to base her Spider identity on a pre-existing cryptid?
so, in her world, The Spectre (????) is a known cryptid that has a ghostly figure. it doesnt speak, it simply shows up before tragedy strikes. it doesnt interact. it just stares. and then it disappears.
River decides to use this as the base for her own identity. Spectre-Spider (any pronouns) is a spider-person with a mostly pale purple suit, and a cape made of mist. the misty cape can be manipulated to look cool, but its just for aesthetics. the hood is plain cloth. but because of the cape and hood (the cape can glow btw dont. dont ask how idk.) Spectre-Spider looks just like the ghostly figure seen before tragedies.
Spectre-Spider shows up at crime scenes, uses as little force as necessary, doesnt speak unless required, and then leaves. he doesnt quip, he just silently does their job, and then leaves.
Spectre-Spider is seen as something of a cryptid himself too, considering it just.. acts like The Spectre, but with the added "actually doing something about it".
the fun thing is? The Spectre is an actual person. i havent figured out their specific details yet but theyre gonna be another person, and River just didnt fuckin know, and stole thier look. The Spectre is fine with it tho bc like. Spidey isnt doing anything bad, so its not a big deal.
Tumblr media
the character im talking about, btw.
small design details: those are knee braces. the eyes have faint pupils because i thought it would be really creepy if the eyes look pure black from afar and then Spectre-Spider gets in your face and theres some absolutely horrifying pupils staring into your soul.

Hey peg, got a non tri force heroes related ask (woah!, shocking!, unprecedented!) whats your opinion on my favorite lil guys; ravio, yuga, and hilda. since ALBW is also my second favorite zelda game. which weirdly enough is also the ONLY other zelda game I've played (to competition) weird how that works ya know? also, hows the youse? I'm pretty good rn, on my mid winter break so I'm feelin nice and practically useless.
Oooooogggghhhh albw makes me feel so many things it's one of my favorite zelda games even though I rarely talk about it (I also haven't played it in a hot minute so if I get details wrong here that's why and I'm not proofreading so hehe this might be a disaster)
(also spoiler warning if anyone hasn't played albw)
I LOVE Ravio. So much. He's goofy and silly and a has a little pet bird and has a rabbit hood and dances when he makes money but also he's more or less a refugee trying to save his doomed home in the only way he can think of. He's a buisness man and his prices are ridiculous but he has concern for Link as well, and is actually his counterpart and their dynamic and everything makes me crazy. Also he's a coward and I relate to that so much. I feel like a coward so often, and I know a lot of people feel inspired by Link's brand of courage but honestly Ravio's is just as important to me if not more. Cause yeah he's a coward. But he has enough courage to leave his home (go to another WORLD) to find somebody who isn't cowardly and who can help fix things and stop Hilda from making a huge mistake. And it pays off. Ravio is a hero in my eyes and I love him.
Yuga I don't have a huge opinion about, but he's an interesting villain. I do like how he merged himself with Ganon, that was a gutsy move I did NOT expect the first time. Plus his whole thing about being obsessed with beauty and paintings and things, it's creepy and stuff, but makes him stick out more in my mind then some other villains. Other then that I don't have a lot to say about him lol, but his whole thing with manipulating Hilda and stuff was interesting too. I'd love to see more of his and Ravio and Hilda's background/story. also his weapon is neat.
Hilda is great <3 Her turning out to be the bad guy was REALLY unexpected (like I maybe suspected her a bit but I was so busy with her encouragment and saving the world and everything I wrote it off), and her motivations were SO interesting. She's making horrible manipulative decisions, but she's trying to save her people, her home. It's the only option that's really left to her and she's desperate to do something to help them, but Ravio helps her see that destroying another world isn't the way. And like, she just seems so scared to me. She's trying to pull together a kingdom that's literally falling apart, Yuga is whispering poison in her ear, but she's so determined to save her people, at any cost. She's an awesome character, and her face at the ending after Link and Zelda restore Lorule's triforce just about makes me cry. That's the face of somebody who lost her hope and thought she deserved nothing, and got everything. She can't believe it. I love albw.
...Also you asked how I'm doing, the answer is not bad! Swimming in too many AUs at the moment, but it happens. Trying to get reasonable amounts of sleep and failing recently lol. I've just been really tired and it's very annoying. But aside from that, pretty good.

what do you think the chains favorite breakfast foods are (if they eat breakfast)
I WAS HALFWAY THROUGH ANSWERING THIS AND MY PHONE DIED AND DELETED EVERYTHING I HAD WRITTEN, DEATH AND SORROW AND DESPAIR.
Okay I'm good now.
ANYWAYS, I split you ask into two sections: first, their favorite food ever if they can get their hands on it, the second what they like to eat on the road. And then a final unhinged rant at the bottom about the one thing about teenage boys/young men and their food that I'll never understand: Bacon.
Legend--I have a feeling that he likes sweets. Specifically, waffles with whipped cream and berries. They're a little burnt, but Ravio made them for him, so he'll pretend he doesn't notice (and grows to like them better that way). On the road, he'll go for coffee/tea (he's not picky) if one of the others make it, or nothing at all.
Hyrule--does he have a favorite breakfast food? Food isn't very stable where he comes from--Legend and Wild would spoil him so much in regard of expanding his palate. But I imagine that something like a fried mixture of beef/sausage, vegetables, and a starch (perhaps an even poorer version of an already poor person food Shepherd's Pie, perhaps? it could be a breakfast food) would be a sort of filling, tasty, and easy to procure/make/preserve food that he'd like. On that note, I would say something simple, easy to get and preserve, and hardy would be his go to breakfast on the road--maybe meat jerky.
Wild--Also a sweets person. Fruit cake, cinnamon rolls, frosted cupcakes, basically all the little delicacies he could get at a dumb party 100 years ago, he ain't picky, it's for breakfast and it's fueling a day long sugar high. On the road he, unlike the other Links, can be pretty creative with his breakfasts, and he likes his spice as well. So, I think he'd like Meaty rice balls.
Four--direct this question to someone else please. He has four voices in his head fighting to answer right now, and none of them agree. I surely dont know if he doesn't.
Time--Pancakes and farm-fresh scrambled eggs and toast with jam. Malon makes it for him. What can I say. On the road he is a habitual coffee drinker, he wouldn't be functioning in the mornings without it. But he'll also take a poached egg if he has the time (heh).
Warrior--unlike Time who is a habitual coffee drinker, he is a coffee connoisseur. He likes the breakfasts they serve at the castle--a lot of meats and fruits, expensive, and on top of it all, well plated. Not to say that he can't eat simply--he was in a war, mind you--just that he prefers not to. On the road, he strikes me as the kind that would drink those tasteless quick oats (y'know you just add water, shake and go?) and also be very vocal about much time (heh) it's saving him (being none). I don't know what the Hyrule equivalent of those are.
Twilight--our favorite country boy. I think he likes a true southern breakfast. Ham and pan-fried potatoes and eggs over-easy, with a side of cheesy grits and sausage biscuits and gravy like Uli used to make for him (I HC this man has a black hole of a stomach, out of all the Links). On the road he'll inhale a boiled egg or two (salted and peppered if he's feeling fancy) that Wild made for him. I also head canon that Twilight likes tea with an intensity. And not only sweet tea, but like, ALL of the teas. He gets obsessive. I literally have in my detail/subplot tracking documents for BDOR the following entry underneath chapter 8--Tea: "Twilight’s cure to Wild’s voice is tea. His cure to life’s woes is tea."
Wind--whatever his grandma is making, probably with seafood involved. I've had a crab-spinach-egg casserole for breakfast before, it was good, so I'll give him that. On the road, I can see him packing a lot of bread and some meat (dried fish if he can get it).
Sky--This guy honestly has me stumped. Do those on Skyloft eat Loftwing eggs, or are they considered taboo? They have a lot of pumpkins around--do they incorporate them into their meals?@needfantasticstories you know a lot of Skyward Sword lore, bequeath me your wisdom. Anyways on the road he's a meat and bread person like Wind. Practical.
Now, for my rant about young men and their food quirks:
Bacon. Bacon, as I have witnessed, drives the most reasonable of men insane.
I just a few things to say about this. I have younger brothers, and I born witness to many male sleepover parties. I--as the resident nasty fe-male XD--have been (forced) to cook for them in the mornings. Set a pile of bacon in front of them (or really any meat, but I have found that bacon has the strongest affect) and they turn into WOLVES. They start to crowd around and stare as soon as they begin to smell it (which hey, give me space in the kitchen, please!), snatch it up before the grease even cools, and then retreat into their separate corners of the living room/kitchen and scarf it down, all while avoiding eye contact and projecting just how much they don't care about the bacon they're eating (perhaps so one of the others don't take notice and try to steal it). There's an odd little ritual/rules to the thing, too: for example, it's frowned upon to take more than three or four pieces at a time, there has to be enough for everyone, obviously; but if you finish a second and third serving before some poor sod stumbles in and gets himself a piece--why that is acceptable, even encouraged. But at all times, you could feel them watching each other, judging whether each person had taken acceptable amounts. 6 at once, I have determined, is veritably considered too much, as I have watched an entire group of mid-late teenage boys chase another through the house and outside for this crime of greed. Another thing was the presence of literally any other edible food. If there was anything else--eggs, fruit, even something like a few slices of unbuttered toast or coffee or juice sitting out, this reaction was largely tempered--even if none of the boys took the other foods, they would take a meager one or two pieces of bacon and be satisfied, perhaps reassured that other food was present and their hope of a filling breakfast was not in vain. Most, at that point they would restrain themselves from eating anything (other than their bacon tax) and wait so that everyone could eat together. But the mad scramble that occurs when there is bacon and only bacon in the kitchen (even if other things are cooking, nearly done, and visible to them) is otherworldly.
I never saw it with anything else, not eggs, not fruit, not even sausage or any other breakfast food. And it must be noted that I was exempt from their little ritual of judgement--perhaps as the only woman, or perhaps as the cook, I was allowed to take as much bacon as I liked from the pile, once the initial wave had attacked and retreated with their bounty (and the strips of bacon had cooled enough that mortal human hands such as my own could pick them up). And while they behaved like beasts, I was always very politely thanked for making breakfast once it was over and the frenzy had abated.
Anyways, your ask got me thinking about Malon making a pile of bacon for the boys, activating the beforehand undiscovered "PANIC! BACON!" mode in their brains, and just being utterly confused as they turn into animals. Just the boys descend, and then a few shouts of "Thanks, Malon!" drift in on the wind as they scatter like racoons with treasure, leaving an empty plate spinning behind them.

First ravio post! (do I make another masterlist now?)
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
For you, Anything
Legend’s universe was nice overall. The onsetting fall left a comfortable chill in the orchard he lived on. The trees had yet to shed their leaves, shades of auburn and rust rustling as the wind blew through. You probably should’ve been cold. And you were sure you would’ve been if it weren’t for the burning in your cheeks. It was uncommon for you to be so flustered, but something about that man just got to you. His teasing remarks, little jabs and unwavering friendship and care since the second you stumbled into him were enough to make your heart fumble. You were so down bad for Ravio it made you sick.
The first day after your arrival you spent pestering him in his shop, asking about each little trinket and ring and what their enhancements and enchantments were. You remember so clearly the warm smile pulling at his lips as he pressed the pendant into your palm
“Just this once you get something free. Just once” Of course the pendant was your favourite. White silver encasing a raw shard of rose quartz with little pearl details. It was absolutely stunning, and absolutely out of your budget. But the look you and Ravio shared as Legend through a fit made you feel rich enough to buy everything in his shop. Of course, to him, seeing the wonder in your eyes was more than any amount of rupees anyone could pay. It gave him a rush better than any deal or contract, the kind that had him pining for your attention, for your favour.
Your thumb rubbed the smooth silver, that steady, giddy warmth returning to your heart at the memory. It’d been three weeks, nearly the longest you stayed anywhere nowadays and yet if Ravio asked you’d gladly stay here for the rest of your life.
“Ah so this is where you ran off to?” His voice was cool and calm as he sat next to you, his posture loose. “Am I really that bad?”
“Do you really want that answer?”
“Fair-“ He laughed with you, the sound refreshing, welcoming. His laugh was something you wanted to bask in, to revel in knowing you made him marginally happy as he did you. If only you knew the words he’s written, thousands upon thousands of small print words ranting about you in his notebook, the ink taking up page after page. And it doesn’t even begin to account for the thoughts in his head or longing in his heart. A harsh wind shook the trees and bit at your skin. “Golden three-“ He hastily pulled off his thick teal scarf, wrapping it around you. “I know it’s not a lot, but it’s better than nothing. Goddesses you’re worse than Mr. Hero at taking care of yourself and that’s impressive” You instantly feel warm, surrounded by him. The scarf smells of warm spices that remind you of safety and comfort that you can’t feel anything but content.
“Thank you.” Your cheeks are wind-bitten and flushed, the pink complimenting the teal in a way that makes him swoon.
“It’s nothing”
“No. Really. Thank you” You see him smile, it’s bashful and new.
“Anytime, for you.” His words are so kind and sincere, you can see him melt, his hands that were wrapping his scarf settle on your shoulders as he studies your face. You lean over and kiss the inside of his wrist. He was a goner, dived right after you.

IV. Bunny Cuddles
(inspired by this)
Legend wasn’t sure how it happened.
One moment, he and Ravio were their normal Hylian (or Lolian, in Ravio’s case) shapes. The next, they were both rabbits. The veteran hero bit back a groan at having to deal with this shit again.
...It wasn’t all bad, he supposed. At least the two of them were together when it happened, so there was no need to worry or go searching to find the other. And Ravio didn’t seem overly distressed by their predicament, so that was a bonus.
After a quick glance around to make sure nothing else had changed - they were still in the vegetable garden just by the backdoor, where they’d been deciding what to use for tonight’s dinner - Legend turned his full attention to his partner.
Ravio’s nose was quivering as it worked to process the sudden influx of new scents around them. His fur was a fluffy mess that shone a deep violet in the sunlight, and Legend could see the slightest hint of curls. He raised his head, causing the scarf draped over him to slip (and that was a bit strange, now that he thought about it, that it hadn’t shrunk down with him like Legend’s outer tunic did) and Legend realized his ears were floppy, not straight like his own.
A lop-eared rabbit. Cute.
“Link?” The merchant’s voice was slightly higher than his usual pitch, reminiscent of how he spoke back when they first met. Legend’s ear flicked at the memory. “Do you, um, know what just happened? Was it one of your items or something?”
Legend snorted and stomped a foot in annoyance before freezing. Oh, great. His instincts, usually able to be pushed into the background or ignored, were back in full with the transformation. He just hoped Wolfie wouldn’t be making an appearance any time soon. Goddesses know that wouldn’t go over well with anyone.
“Link?” Right, Ravio.
He sighed, sitting up to rub at his face. “Not one of my items, no. This... The first time I changed into this form was on my first adventure, in the Dark World. It took a while, but eventually I got a moon pearl, which allows me to stay hylian. Then it turns out the Rancher has a fun little item that changes whoever holds it into an animal that ‘reflects their soul’ or something.” He grimaced. “It only works on one person at a time, though. And Twilight’s not even out here, so I don’t know how either of us could have gotten our hands on it. Other than that, I don’t know.”
“Do you think that your moon pearl would be able to change us back?” Ravio asked, hopping closer.
“I’m not sure.” Legend frowned, thinking. “Even if it does, we’d have to get to it first. As we are, we’re not going to get very far without a whole lot of luck.”
Ravio hummed, pondering the situation. “Well... what about the other heroes? Wouldn’t one of them have something that could help? You said Mr. Wolf Hero was experienced with this sort of thing, surely he’d have an idea how to turn back?”
The veteran had to bite back the sudden urge to snarl, ears going flat as he dropped back to all fours. “I don’t want any of them seeing me like this! It’s bad enough Twilight and Sky know; if the Captain or the Champion, or heavens forbid, the Sailor found out I’d never hear the end of it-!”
His rant was cut off by Ravio nipping him chidingly on the nose. Legend jerked back, ears standing straight up in surprise as he stared at the merchant. Ravio only huffed and shuffled closer to press against him.
“I’m sure they’d be understanding if you told them,” he remarked. Legend grumbled some more but ultimately let it go. Ravio nuzzled him approvingly, and he slowly let himself relax. “It’ll be alright, honeybee. We’re not in any rush, and if it turns out someone else needs to make dinner tonight they can handle it.”
“You mean Wild can handle it.” Ravio giggled, ruffling the fur on Legend’s cheek.
They’d have to figure out what caused this and find a way to change back eventually, but Ravio was right; they weren’t in a hurry and the other heroes could handle themselves for one evening. Besides, the entire property, from the house to the garden to edge of the orchard, was warded to the Dark World and back. Nothing could get to them here, so there was no need to worry about predators- aside from Wolfie, and even then the big lug would probably just flop down and smother them over anything else now that he thought about it.
Legend nudged Ravio until the other moved, herding him towards a sheltered part of the garden. Safe or not, he’d feel better if they were out of sight of anything (or anyone) walking by. He circled the merchant a few times, making sure he really was doing alright, before he let himself settle. Tucking his paws under himself, he cuddled into his partner, who in turn nuzzled him again before beginning to groom his ears. Legend shivered at the sensation. Then his eyes fluttered shut and he began to purr, grinding his teeth softly in contentment.
꒰˶  - ˕ -꒱ ⌒)ᦱ
The two of them stayed that way for hours, until the sun set and darkness fell over the land. Twilight came out to look for them only to find two sleepy bundles of fur, one pink and one purple, cuddled up together in the vegetable patch and purring just loud enough for hylian ears (or rather, wolf-enhanced hylian ears) to catch. He gave a soft smile at the sight, which quickly grew into a smirk as he darted back inside. He re-emerged a few moments later with Wild’s slate clutched firmly in hand.
Legend twitched at the sound of the shutter, but was too comfortable to care. He snuggled closer and fell back into a doze, content to cuddle the night away with his partner. Ravio snuffled, drifting deeper into sleep.
Twilight shook his head with a fond smile, hooking the slate on his belt and quietly kneeling down before the pair. Ever-so-gently, he removed his pelt and eased it around them before lifting it, freezing when one of them shifted before resettling.
He carried the bundle inside and up the stairs, fielding his brothers’ questions with a shake of his head. It took a moment of reshuffling to open the door without dropping his precious cargo and then he was setting it down on the bed before retreating.
He’d get the Master Sword in the morning. Or maybe one of those moon pearl things Legend and Four talked about. He was sure there was at least one lying around the house somewhere. For now, though, Twilight lifted the slate again and snapped a few more pictures before letting them be.
The hero- and merchant-turned-bunnies slept on, cozy and content in the quiet darkness of their room.

For the kiss game;
Kissing while giggling: Wildlight
Kissing to shut someone up: RavioLink?
Mwah mwah ~🐹 rodent anon
My dear rodent! Thank you so much for such delightful asks! Both are ships I'm very fond of and I have plans for the other prompt but just had to go with one of my favourite ships here. Hope you enjoy!!
RavioLink - Kissing to shut someone up
The rupees in Link’s pocket were weighing him down, making his movements slow and that made him frustrated to no end. That was his reasoning for going to see Ravio, to purchase some stock and lighten his purse and his spirit; a heavy leaden hero was ineffective after all (even if that was the excuse he’d give to Ravio at least).
“You won’t find better quality potions anywhere else, Mister Hero! It’s my own recipe, a little something special added in just for yo—my most loyal customers.”
The sceptical raise to Link’s eyebrow had Ravio stuttering to cover up his faux pas, the dusting of a flush on freckled cheeks like a beacon now that he forgoes his hood around Link.
“Ah yes, the fire rod, a fine choice for an adventuring hero such as yourself and such a bargain too.” Ravio followed Link’s seemingly random wandering from display stand to shelves, picking up items randomly just to hear Ravio’s sales pitch about each and delighting in the small huff that Ravio though was hidden but Link heard clearly as he placed products back in their places.
After enough teasing, the sales counter became cluttered, more and more of the merchants wares finding their way from Ravio’s stock and into Link’s inventory.
“My my, Mister hero, at this rate you’re going to take all of my stock, and then what is a merchant to do with no wares?”
“I am taking the lot.” At the look of complete disbelief that crossed Ravio’s face, Link smirked. “Don’t worry, I have the rupees to pay for it.”
Almost as if Link never spoke at all, Ravio’s sales pitch continued, Link’s words seemingly not crossing the barrier of Ravio’s thoughts.
“The boomerang you’ve rented before is available again and I have a delightful array of rods and other such hero gear—"
The smirk never left Link’s face as he placed his hands on Ravio’s shoulders, halting the tirade of words with a startled “eep”.
“I’m buying everything here, Ravi. And, unless you plan to get more stock, you can retire and I can finally get my damn house back.” 3…2….1, Link’s mind counted down to the moment his words sank in.
“But Mr Hero! Whatever is a retired merchant to do! Where will I go?!” Ravio’s eyes widened in sheer panic that almost had Link feeling bad. Almost.
With a dramatic roll to his eyes and a shake to his head that did nothing to remove the satisfaction etched over his features, Link hauled Ravio closer and with no hesitation
“You misunderstand, Ravio. You aren’t going anywhere.” Lips sealing over Ravio’s again, Link feels the moment that realisation kicks in as Ravio’s ears descend from his shoulders, the tension bleeding out of him temporarily before he pulls back from the kiss with an inhale that Link knows means he’s about fill the air with hard to follow rambling.
“Oh Lolia, are you sure?! I’ll have to get more stock though, how else am I going to get the rupees to pay my way? And is there room for a second bed here when you’ve finished your adventure? What am I going to tell Hild--.”
Link’s lips vibrated against Ravio’s own with his chuckle, enjoying cutting the merchants rant off with a sweet kiss before pulling away just enough to murmur his own words against Ravio’s lips.
“Shut up, you idiot, and kiss me.”

12 and 14 for Raide :)
Which canon characters (if any) do the oc have good relationships with? Why those characters?
okay Technically, technically, none of the canon characters are around in Raide's time. or if they are, he wouldnt have met them. (honestly havent decided if they're somehow still around or not, but that could be a really fun little side thing..)
however. im going to have fun with this. Raide is very creative, and kind, and also protective, so i think he would get along well with Uli and Colin and Rusl. Uli is a kind lady who i can easily see knitting and sewing most of the time, so raide and uli could honestly just quietly chill and craft while maybe talking about the stuff going on around them. raide would also be willing to help take care of the kiddos. Colin is Uli's kiddo, and has an interest in protecting people and learning to wield a sword, but also canonically enjoys crafting things (he made his own fishing rod with his dad, as well as the wooden sword if i remember right.) so raide would have fun crafting with him too, as well as helping him with his sword training. she might not want to be a royal guard, but they Do enjoy hitting things with sharp sticks, and they might as well teach someone who wants to learn, right? plus i dont think he would mind hanging out while colin goes fishing. Rusl and raide would get along because raide comes from a line of royal guards, and has the professional training that comes with it. rusl would respect that. Rusl would also respect their choice to not be a guard, especially because she still actively protects her friends whenever they leave town. They have the shared experience of having been guards tho, so they could bond over how shitty training probably was.
honorable mentions: i think Ashei and Raide would get along as the weird boygirls they are. the yeti's get along with everyone, but Yeto would let Raide help him with soup, and Yeta would so work on a quilt with her.
why those characters? because, as much as i like the main characters (link, zelda, midna) i dont think raide would get along with them super well. Link is a farm boy, and yeah they both have sword training, but like, they dont have the shared experience of Being Guards like Rusl would have. they would maybe be chill with each other but i dont see Raide like, joining him on a trip to castle town or smthn. Zelda is.. zelda. idk. shes pretty cold in this version, and kinda resigned herself to her fate, and we dont see her Do like.. anything. so idk. Midna is a little too mischievous for Raide. i think they would be chill with each other, on account of Midna being related to Raide's friends, but i dont see them being friends. so i chose other characters that Would have a better chance of being friends with them.
also yeah all these bitches would be in the light world but like.. i already have an idea for the worlds being able to mingle a bit and also we dont. we dont have canon characters in the twilight realm. zant gets exploded and midna wouldnt be friends with him.
Did you give your oc a love interest? Is it another oc or a canon character? Why?
yes i did! raide and calen are boyfriends!! they are both oc's.. why? because i dont really like shipping my characters with canon characters, plus with them living in the twilight realm, options would be limited. why i gave raide a love interest.. well, Raide and Calen are both based on parts of myself to some degree (raide being creative as hell and calen being a vague metaphor for chronic illness that i can explain at a later date) and i revamped them around the time i got out of an iffy relationship, and calen, in his previous incarnation, had been dating one of my ex partner's oc's, so i decided "fuck it, self indulgent oc ship." because i was lonely. they both deserve to be loved, gender fuckery, overwhelming creative wants, and chronic illness included.
(note: shipping your oc's or yourself with canon characters is perfectly fine, its just not something i like doing with My characters.)

LOZ Character Analysis/Rant
Ravio, The Hero of Lorule
Tumblr media
“I’m a coward at heart. There was no way that I had the courage to stand up to you and Yuga.”
A very curious fellow. He’s very much a chosen hero like his Hyrulean counterpart Link, yet he’s nothing like him, prefering to coordinate from the background rather than charge ahead with a blade. He’s a strategist, not a fighter. A merchant, not an adventurer. An advisor, not a leader.
He may not be one to pass up the opportunity to make a profit but he’s a pure soul. And he believes himself unworthy of being called a hero, despite the courageous and righteous acts he took to save his kingdom.
~~~
So I’ve heard people call Ravio “the hero without courage”, and I have to say I don’t agree with that. He’s a very proactive character, helping out in small but important ways.
His problem is that he lacks strength (as in literal strength, not inner strength) and power. He had the will to act, but his poor physical ability prevented him from acting in a way a traditional hero would. Unlike Link he didn’t have access to his piece of the Triforce, he didn’t have a Master sword and he was going up against Hilda and Yuga.
Ravio’s weakness only highlights his courage and makes him an even more selfless and righteous hero than some of the Hyrulean heroes. Every Link in the series has some amount of power to back up his actions, whether it’s the might of the Master sword, the faith and guidance of the princess, a powerful companion, items that enhance their strength and much more. Aside from having copious amounts of stuff in his possession Ravio had none of that to work with.
By the way, all of Ravio’s items and relics must have come from somewhere. Sure he may have traded a few of them, but the majority must have come from years of raiding dungeons. If he was able to escape Lorule without getting caught, then he for sure had the skills to sneak in and out of dungeons to collect their treasures.
Ravio had only a little bit of magic left, he had no weapons and was likely very afraid, yet despite that he did what he knew was right and went to Hyrule to find help. He knew he was going against Hilda, a person he cares deeply about, and knew there was a possibility he’d never be able to return to her, but that didn’t stop him. He basically risked everything to save his people and free Hilda of her obsession with Hyrule’s triforce and herself.
If he didn’t do what he did, both Hyrule and Lorule would have fallen into chaos.
In his journal, there’s a three day countdown (MM reference?) to the day he leaves Lorule where he documents his thoughts and feelings:
“3 Days to go She wants to do the right thing. I wish I could help her. But leaving is my only option.”
The “I wish” is pretty powerful here, it shows how much this weighed on his mind. He probably came up with multiple scenarios in his head about he could help her, some more idealistic than others- but in the end he was resolved to leave. “only option” is an interesting word choice. Clearly Ravio didn’t see any other possible way, and even though he didn’t want to leave he felt he had to.
2 Days to Go She's being duped. Doesn't she realize that? He's just a leech. There's no choice but to go.
“duped” he used the word “duped”, oh my days that’s adorable. I’m going to say now for the record that Ravio has the most delightful lines of dialogue. His manner of speaking is so charming!
But back to serious analysis, he was clearly heartbroken that she didn’t see in Yuga what he saw. And left to find help because at the time he had no hope of convincing her. The use of “leech” is interesting. Ravio knew what was up and recognised that Yuga was relying on Hilda. But since he couldn’t get through to her and didn’t have the power to confront her and Yuga directly, there was nothing he could do but leave.
He said that there was “no choice”, like he had to keep repeating that to himself otherwise he’d get cold feet and wouldn’t go through with it. Really emphasises just how scared and conflicted he was.
1 Day to Go I have so little magic. Enough to go there—maybe not to come back. But tomorrow must be the day. I may never see her again, but I vow to save her from all of this."
“I have so little magic”- ok this is irrelevant, but I hate that HW made his main weapon a huge hammer. It goes against the established fact that he’s, physically speaking, a weakling and that part of his character is centred around him not using weapons. He does use magic, but it seems like he can only use it with the help of items. I guess I’d just prefer it if he was trickly a merchant who dabbled in magic and never carried weapons.
That dash in the second line is heartbreaking- like he had just thought of that while writing this and it pulled him short. Again the use of “must” show he was mentally preparing himself for what had to be done and “vow” reflects how much he wanted to help her. Hilda is the subject of the last line so clearly his thoughts and motivations were mostly about her.
Ravio’s treatment of and subsequent friendship with Link has led to them now being one of my favourite dynamics in the series.
Straight out of the gate Ravio calls Link “buddy”, which isn’t wholey genuine since it’s their first meeting, but it suggests an easy-going and friendly personality, which wasn’t something I expected when I first got to know his character. You could argue that his boisterous mannerisms are a front to mask his insecurities for lacking power and in his eyes courage- but I don’t think it is.
Sure, he may not believe he’s worth much as a hero, or have faith in his own unique strengths, but he’s still comfortable with himself. He has the sort of charisma only a seasoned tradesman would have, and that confidence very much comes naturally to him when he’s in his element, i.e. negotiating trades, whether it’s making a sale or convincing Link to let him crash at his house.
Also another sidenote, Ravio is a shrewd little cinnamon roll. I get the feeling he was planning on living in Link’s house the moment he entered it, calling it “vacant” to justify moving in. After he learns it’s Link’s he says it “Looked empty-ish”, as it to imply that there’s more than enough room for another person to move in while also hinting at the idea of redecorating.
Which he ultimately ends up doing, basically to the point of taking over. This mad lad even moved Link’s bed. The nerve of this kid! For a self-proclaimed coward he’s really brave when it comes to pushing people’s boundaries.
Ravio was an important ally to Link. He gave him access to many useful and powerful items, such as the bracelet that allows him to turn into a painting. If Link didn’t have that, he wouldn’t have made it past the first dungeon. It’s not that Ravio stays in Link’s house and lets Link do all the hard work because he lacks the courage to do it himself and is afraid. It’s because he recognises that Link is an experienced adventurer who would be able to use the items better than he could. Besides, Ravio is always happy to make a profit help out a pal.
Plus there’s nothing wrong with being afraid, it’s only a weakness if it dulls your decision making and makes you shy away from taking action. That doesn’t apply to Ravio who’s very proactive despite his fears.
Speaking of pals, he seems to consider Link a friends pretty early into the story and like him a lot. Not only that but he almost idolizes Link for being a hero, saying, “A real, live, genuine hero!” during their first meeting with the word choice and punctuation showing his excitement. This admiration may come from a place of wishing he was more like Link in that sense. He also calls Link “Mr Hero” rather than his name, which from Link’s point of view would become very annoying since it is pretty objectifying. Like buddy, there’s a person attached to this sword y’know?!
I like to think that Link likes Ravio too eventually.
Ravio’s role in the story was perfect. Hilda needed to realise the error in her plan to take Hyrule’s Triforce, not be defeated in an epic battle- not that Ravio would do that even if he could. As for Yuga...ok fair enough that jerk needed to be taken out, but Ravio wasn’t strong enough to stand a realistic chance, and he knew that.
The situation was pretty hopeless, with the other two holders of the Triforce against him, and he needed help. Thus he had to think outside the box and come up with a plan to save Princess Hilda and Lorule that didn’t involve any direct fighting on his end. He was wise enough to recognize that he couldn’t have won the fight alone, but worked hard to make sure his side did.
Ravio finally convincing Hilda to do the right thing was his moment to shine. It was something only he could do and he’d wanted to do it since the beginning. With Yuga out of the way and all the pieces in place he was able to persuade her to give back Hyrule’s Triforce and make her see the error in her ways.
He definitely became part of her council again after this, there’s not way she wouldn’t want and need his advice.
Ravio, Hilda and Yuga all differ from their Hyrulean counterparts. Ravio had courage and inner strength but he went about doing the right thing in an unconventional way. Hilda was smart, having helped come up with the plans to obtain a new triforce, but lacked true wisdom for she allowed her judgement to be clouded by a desperation to save the kingdom. Yuga was still a power-hungry monster, but he relied on manipulating Hilda rather than his own strengths.
~~~
Thanks for reading!
I have not played A Link Between Worlds, so I’m not very familiar with it’s lore and story but I hope I did Ravio justice with this analysis. At the very least, I’ve now got a newfound appreciation for him.
Also I’ve always believed the colour green to symbolises the Hero’s spirit, it’s the colour that links every hero. Ravio may not have it on his clothes (save for the green gem on his belt), but his eyes are green. The eyes are the window to the soul so...
