Welcome to the Bessin family. No one is wrong. No one is imperfect. No one is a failure.

Charles Delacroix Bessin IV and Cecilia Bessin (nee Chilton) || Charles Bessin made his money the old fashioned way. By inheriting it from his family. The Bessins have lived in New York City for generations, purchasing property and lording over the city with only the most elite Rockefellers and Vanderbilts. Charles’ wife, Cecilia, came from the equally prestigious Chilton family, a Mayflower family as well as oil tycoons.

Roger Bessin and Sophia Rhoden || The Bessin family was certainly surprised when Roger divorced his first wife, Sophia, in the early nineties. She was beautiful, smart, and most importantly, from a good family with plenty of connections. The perfect wife for an old money, New York man who owned millions (nearly billions) of dollars worth of property in Manhattan. And they were even more surprised when he married Adeline Marceau, a woman nearly ten years younger than him, who he met while on vacation with his wife in Paris.

Roger Bessin and Adeline Marceau || Roger’s marriage to the beautiful young Adeline was picture perfect at first, despite their age difference and his family’s disapproval. She moved to the States and gave him two beautiful children, Faye and Hayley. However, their marriage turned sour, full of fighting and arguing and occasionally Adeline throwing things at Roger’s head. But people were still surprised when she left their family in the middle of the night, divorce papers signed on the bedside table, never to be seen again.

Hayley Bessin || Though the Bessin family was toxic and dysfunctional at best, at least Faye had her younger sister Hayley to confide in. The two sisters were thick as thieves, always relying on each other for support. People often remarked that it was like they could read each other’s thoughts. That was, until Hayley’s untimely death last year in a drunk driving accident.

craig & doreen shepherd (jess’ adopted grandparents): the two were quite shocked upon hearing that their daughter, Evelyn, had adopted a teenaged boy out of nowhere, they weren’t sure of the boy who seemed to have a knack of getting in trouble, often disrupting the gatherings that they would hold in their mansion, chastising their daughter who liked to undermine her parents even at her age. They still are iffy on the subject of Jess but they try their best to treat him like he was one of their own even when he makes it especially hard. 

evelyn shepherd (jess’ adopted mother): she was built on the idea by her parents that she was supposed to be a gifted surgeon, and she was, she went to school, did everything that she needed to, but she had felt empty after the divorce of her husband, they had tried for a kid but failed numerous times, having rough feelings towards her parents who seemed to push Eve around a bit she had decided to take matters into her own hands and do something different, drastic, little did she know that her calling would be a mother to a sixteen year old who liked causing trouble. It was a long road, often Jess running away right when he gained her trust he’d ruin it, until one night when she stayed up, waiting for him with the lights on, he walked in bloody, his hands were bruised and he had a black eye that completely was shut, she had taken him to the hospital she was a surgeon at and did her very best to keep him alive after finding internal bleeding, from that moment on, jess knew that he could trust her and she learned to love him like her own son, though she felt the connection from their very first meeting. They have a good relationship now, though it’s still a little strained because he still has a knack for fighting, but she does her best and takes him to all the family gatherings and all the things that she’s involved in.
