i know this is about asking for my thoughts and hcs but i wanted to draw ranpo from memory so here u go c:
ok so this is coming from a fan who stopped catching up with bsd for like months. so forgive me if i miss details about ranpo, i'm still getting back into bsd
thoughts below the cut
he's a first fav! i got into bsd because i genuinely thought it was a detective solving mystery anime... nevertheless, i found ranpo cute and clever!! i'm usually drawn to the detective types and his straightforward way of going things is so entertaining and admirable for me, who relates more to poe who's more complicated in going about things...
ranpo's interesting to me because while he is confident in his skills and lets it be known to anyone and everyone who comes across him, that confidence is also fragile to me?
we're introduced to this image he's built over the years, but overtime, these pages were the most memorable to me whenever i think of ranpo
his confidence feels so solid until you take a closer look and realize that confidence can't survive without other people to validate this image he built up. it reflects such a common human experience for me and to me, is what humanizes him?
he's so good at what he does! he's skilled and that skill saves his found family plenty of times! as well as many civilians! and he clings on to that accomplishment as his sole identity most of the time
this is not just a fear of what he doesn't know, that second "i don't know" is so personal, as if his identity is shattered because for once, the very thing he's good at can't solve the situation in front of him.
if you ask me, the most intriguing thing about him is how he carries himself, how he carries his identity.
onto hcs!
insane sweet tooth but has times where he's picky on the sweetness level of the dessert he gets
doesn't have textural issues with food, but may struggle with combined flavors in his food ("if it's sweet, it should stay sweet! if it's salty, it should stay salty!" those flavors cannot mix into one food item unless it's savory food)
keeps a comb in his pocket to style his bangs as spiked out looking as possible! probably gets gifted said comb by mushitaro so he can take care of the knots in his hair
does not care about personal space but may feel one way or another about someone suddenly invading his personal space
loves to give oddly specific nicknames to his co-workers at the agency to remember them better

Even tho he’s a flirt i don’t think he gets too many crushes.
You would probably start out as friends and as he grows closer he starts to catch feelings. I feel like he’s the type to need to true connection with someone to get a crush. Someone he realizes he can be his true self around and not keep up his facade.

If you’re a girl who wears lipstick daily you get bonus points. He loves lipstick especially red shades. Definitely takes your tube out of your purse and plays with it. Then goes to the store looks at the brand of lipstick and gets you another shade “you got me a gift what for?” “Idk just reminded me of you” “omg this is my favorite brand how did you know?”

"Do I seem like I want to," you turned your back to him, walking away holding on to all the good times—because where to put it down?

The name Osamu Dazai and (Y/n) Dazai was erased long ago from the Port Mafia. Half of you died that day, abandoning everything to start a new life.
Abandoning, him.
Of course you are perfectly fine with how you live now; new job, new friends, new reason to live, but they say nothing will be as beautiful as your first love. Nonetheless there will always be your annoying twin brother who literally grew taller but his mentality somehow stopped growing.
All you do now is to work all day, from when the sun rises until it sets again. "Ranpo can I have five?" Your head turned to Ranpo who's desk is right beside you.
"Two," he handed two sticks of strawberry flavoured Pocky, "Why so petty, give me more," you whined,
"Can't," Ranpo said in a most teasing way possible, stuffing all of the Pocky sticks left to his mouth.
Well you ended up eating two only, since Ranpo devoured the whole box of Pocky.
Five more minutes until work is done and you have nothing left to do, "Osamu wake me up in five minutes," you made a request to the person sitting on your right which was then was replied with a hum
Guess what? Osamu left you asleep with a note taped to your head 'Do not wake me up XOXO'.
The office is dark and seems blue from the night sky poking through the window, gathering your soul as you walk out of the office building.
You look up, the moon greeted you a 'good evening' with its light. Today the moon is closer to earth.
It's still 19.55... You gaze over the time mechanic in your wrist. Your body is worn out but your heart is telling you to go somewhere. "Isn't it... My birthday today?" You murmured
How can you be surprised... it's your own birthday, how can you forgot?
Almost never, you celebrate your birthday, nor Osamu. One terrible habit that you and your twin brother share has to be; the way you always forgot your birthday—and ended up not celebrating it.
You decided to stroll around the coastal parkland, the Sugita coastal parkland—a vault of memory you cherish.
Sometimes when you sit and watch the blue water on the shore, you see something; seventeen year old you and... Chuuya.
It's closed for the night, but you are not bound by a rule, henceforth you trespass.
Here you are again, the same shore, the same sea, everything is the same, but the people you share it with is just not there.
"Can't you read the sign? It's closed ma'am."
That voice... you recognized it
Over your shoulder you sighted the person inside your mind. That stupid hat, ash blue eyes, unruly red hair, coat hanging on his hand over the shoulders. Exactly how it was five years ago.
You shift your vision back to the sea, ignoring the man behind you.
"This area is reserved by the Port Mafia, if you have no authority then you may leave,"
You chuckled at his words, "What exactly for?"
"Business," Chuuya restrained.
Maybe if you didn't left Port Mafia, you will be in the exact same spot here today, maybe you will be the one telling trespassers to leave the area.
"I'll leave in five minutes, how's that?" You negotiate,
There was no reply. Chuuya was silent and you didn't look back to check.
He is walking closer, you can feel it somehow.
"Happy birthday (Y/n)," his voice is close.
You turned your body around, he is holding a metal lighter; the lighter you left on his desk back at the Port Mafia base.
The flame flickers, as if it's dancing from the light breeze of the night.
Chuuya doesn't have enough courage to look at you in the eyes, his eyes are locked on the dancing flame.
The 'candle' dimmed as you blow.
"You're the first to wish me a happy birthday today,"
"I see... things never really change,"
Chuuya is probably the only person who remembers your birthday, even after you left the mafia; he still treasures it—he stayed up late until the clock says '00.00' to wish you a happy birthday even though it won't reach to you.
"You never wake me up again," Chuuya hinted
And after you left; he never used Corruption again. He kept his promise,
"Chuuya, promise me you will only use Corruption when I'm by your side,"
"Promise."
Now that you're so far away, the thought of dying alone never left his mind. You were the only one who would wake him up from his nightmare, with your voice you wake him up, with your touch.
Chuuya would do anything to be seventeen again.
"Are you locked out of your apartment for the night?"
Chuuya actually surprised you. He did remember everything, he didn't change in the slightest bit.
Osamu usually would lock you out of your apartment if you were to go home late. Not that he sleeps early; it's just him messing around with you.
You ended up staying at Chuuya's place. He used to stay at a floor in the Port Mafia base, he's old enough to purchase his own mansion now.
He likes wine now, there's a wine cellar in the basement of the mansion. The books in the living are just there to please the eyes, Chuuya doesn't really read—only time to time and he has a specific taste in a book.
The jukebox, he still uses it too. The last gift from you for his eighteenth birthday. Although the jukebox is quite aged, its melody remains young and beautiful.
"A dance?" Chuuya offered his hand.
No reason to object one's invitation to dance. His arms is wrapped around your waist, the other holding yours,
Meeting your first love ever, dancing through the night getting wasted from the wine. Chuuya is the only birthday gift you want.
He was hesitant, but he didn't let the opportunity to slide, "I love you, always and forever." He hid his face from you, his forehead on your shoulder.
Chuuya gets flustered easily. "143 637," you replied.
"Things just never really change, right Chuuya?"

The following morning you bang on the door of your apartment.
A man version of you showed up when he opens the door, "Hi sissy,"
"Hi adopted child," you greet your twin brother

Osamu noticed a man standing beside you, out of everyone in Yokohama, it's.... CHUUYA
"Well surprise bitch, happy late-by-a-day birthday, I brought you a gift," you expressed a smug smile before sliding your way in, leaving Osamu with Chuuya.
"Where is the gift—I don't see it?" Osamu pretended to look around, "Oh there you are, why is it so small I almost can't see it," he faced down to Chuuya,
Not longer than 3 minutes since you left to change your attire. The apartment foyer had turn into a WWE Championship.
"The hell are you two doing,"
"As expected, (Y/n)'s taste in men is horrible,"
That was your last straw, you gave Osamu a smack before dragging Chuuya out.

imagine you were gone in the agency
not like gone GONE jeez, like you had to take a business trip for a few weeks and now you’re back in yokohama, heading to the agency to let everyone know
during the business trip, you have felt nothing but stress building up, but now that you’re back, the weight on your shoulders has been lifted back and seeing your coworkers would make your day better
when you opened the door and entered, you were greeted by kunikida
“y/n, good morning. glad you’re back.” he grinned.
“thank you, kunikida. glad i came back after a nightmare.” you greeted back.
“OH MY GOD, Y/N’S BACK!” you hear dazai rushing towards you.
“DAZAI, QUIT RUNNING LIKE A GODDAMN MANIAC!” kunikida yelled as he held dazai back.
“HAH? CAN I NOT GREET OUR BELOVED COWORKER, MOM?!”
“SHUT UP, I’M NOT YOUR MOM!”
“YOU’RE THE AGENCY’S MOM, THAT’S FOR SURE! LEMME GO AND HUG Y/N!”

you giggled as the three of you made your way to the office, dazai hugging squeezing you along the way and kept asking you questions

kenji & kyoka asked how’s the business trip and you responded honestly
“really? that’s how it went?” kenji asked.
“sadly, but glad i’m back.” you shrugged.
“you’re lucky you got back early, everyone misses you..” kyoka said as she and kenji approached you to give you hugs.
“awww, i miss you guys too.” you hugged them back.
ranpo greeted you and asked if you brought any snacks, which you did since, you know, you care about your coworkers
“yay! more snacks!” ranpo said as he crammed his lips with the food you brought to the agency.
“pff, careful ranpo!” you chuckled.
“mhm!” he hummed as he patted your head.
jun’ichiro and naomi also greeted you
“ohh, we missed you y/n!” naomi hugged you firmly.
“naomi, you’re suffocating them!” jun’ichiro warned her.
“it’s okay, jun’ichiro.” you said as you beckoned him to join the hug too and he did.
atsushi was happy to see you and greeted you with a power hug, causing you to both fall down
“ATSUSHI!” kunikida shouted.
“sorry, i just miss y/n!” atsushi said as he hugged you tighter.
“i miss you too, atsushi!” you hugged back.
seeing everyone being happy that you’re back also made you happy
but you wonder.. where’s the president?
ever since you went on a business trip, you both missed each other. seeing his face after you left, your heart sank
like dude was pouting, wanting for you to be back as soon as you can :(
matter of fact, he didn’t want you to leave. you remembered his arm reaching onto yours since no members were on any of your sights. he pulled you onto his arms and hugged you, asking if you’re ever going to be okay with leaving for a business trip
you answered that you’ll be fine and will be gone for a few weeks, also promising to keep him updated with anything related to work and how much you’ll miss him
that brought a smile on his face and he wished you good luck once you both heard your number for your flight
you did keep him updated, by texting and calling him every night. if you didn’t, this dude would be disappointed that you didn’t update any information to him and it’ll be sad :((
unless if it’s a really shitty busy workload and didn’t have time to update him but let him know about it, then that’s fine, just know that he’ll miss you
and now that you’re back, you want to see him as much as he want to see you
you suddenly hear the footsteps of a familiar clerk that brought you back to reality
“ah, y/n!” you heard kirako called you.
“hey kirako! what up?” you asked.
“one, welcome back to the agency. we’re glad you’re back from your business trip. two, the president requested to see you.”
hearing that he wanted to see you brightened your mood even more
“thank you, kirako!” you answered as you made your way to his office.
you felt your heartbeat quicken with each stop you take. you could probably guess his expression once he heard that you’re back
you could imagine his eyes softening and calling one of his clerks to come get you, wanting to see you alone in his office
ok listen, even though everyone is aware of your relationship with the president, if he walked out and called you into his office, it will likely be embarrassing for him. he wants to keep it quiet between you two and you get him since he’s a quiet man that keeps his personal life confidential
once you arrived to his office, you knocked on the door
“you may enter.” you heard him.
you opened the door and entered his office
he looked up from his work in front of him and you swore, seeing him really made you wanna tear up since you missed him
and it’s true, his eyes did soften once he see you in front of him
“president..” you said as you felt your heart began to race even more.
he stood up and made his way to you. you also made your way to him
“y/n.. you’re back.” he said as he pulled you in his arms once again. you felt like you reached heaven once you felt his touch.
“yeah. i’m back..” your entire sense of stress vanished as you returned the hug.
“i miss you.”
“i miss you too, yukichi..”
after a while, you both let go of the embrace
but he wasn't quite ready to let you go yet
he cupped your face with his hands and immediately kissed you, reminding you of how much he missed you
you kissed him back and you encircled his neck with your arms while he encircled your waist with his
this was the moment you’ve been waiting for, finally coming back to your beloved lover after what it felt like a very long time since you last seen each other in person a few weeks ago
feeling his lips on yours and his hands on your waist wants to make you melt onto him
you both let go after what felt like a few moments and noticed his endearing smile
he put his head on your shoulder, making you snicker as he was ashamed to smile at you
“pfff it’s okay, yukichi. i love seeing your smile.” you giggled as you patted his back.
“mm..” he sighed as he nuzzled on your shoulder. “welcome back, y/n..”
the agency celebrates your return for the entire day
the president joined you all for a bowl of hotpot, eating alongside you and simply being there

ppl are comfortable w this chapter cuz asagri wouldn't kill a character easily. They struggle but they're eventually saved in the end. but I wouldn't be comfortable when this is abt dazai facing danger. his death in every universe is probable and serves the plot in many ways
I obv can’t tell what Asagiri’s plans are for every character. I can only say that he doesn’t like killing off important characters, and that I personally hope that Dazai doesn’t die (which also goes for every character tbh)
We all know that killing off odasaku was, unfortunately, necessary for the plot and dazai's character development but Idk whether him killing off would give the same effect on other characters (mainly chuuya)
If we're talking about dazai, bsd is def his redemption arc. Yes, him dying and saving everyone but himself would be poetic ngl but it'd be a pity if his life is thrown away like that, interrupting that arc. he really never forgot what oda said before dying.
There's this Tumblr post talking about Dazai's potential death that I really admire and think it's poetic but I can't help but feel sorry for him cuz he's my fav character after all and m pretty sure his death is gonna hurt. Not only from my point of view but also for bsd characters'
ppl saying "chuuya is pretending that he's still a vampire and he's secretly now working with dazai cuz dazai's speech awakened him" give me one. just fkn one logical explanation to this apart from the power of love wth????

Why is Ranpo associated with Fyodor in this scene ?
Heeeey today (tonight lmao) i wanted to talk ab this exact panel/scene in bsd (chapter 56 and in the 5th episode of the 4th season) because i saw a lot of people not understanding this and be like "i don't get why Ranpo and Fyodor are associated in this scene they have nothing in common blah blah blah" so your fav detective is here to explain evrything ! As usual you guys need to know that it's basically MY interpretation, i'm not Asagiri or anyone in charge of the manga so i'm not saying that my opinion is the only right way to understand it, i'm just sharing how i get the scene. I'm also fully open to the corrections (bc english isn't my 1st language) and others opinions so if you have things to say (or to ask) don't be scared of leaving a comment i'll gladly respond to it :D.
First i'm gonna put back the scene into its context : so Ranpo and Mushitaro are in Poe's novel which is made to make Mushi admit his crime because even if Ranpo knows what happened he has no evidence of it so only a confession from the culprit would help. As Mushitaro doesn't wanna admit his crime Ranpo has no choice but use manipulation (using poe's novel) to make Mushi talk, that's what we'll talk about in this post.
Here's the full panel bc it'll be useful later in the explanation :
We'll start by analyze the 2 first boxesof the panel (the ones on the right side) : At the beginning Ranpo is talking about how Fyodor (called "Dostoyevsky" by Ranpo which highlights the respect that he owns for Fyodor's abilities and intellect bc Ranpo usualy calls ppl by their firstname (ex. Atsushi, Kenji, Ed (Poe)). As Ranpo is used to put himself above others, treating someone (especially Fyodor) with respect proves that he admitted his (as he's part of the agency) defeat), by his intelligence, destroyed the ADA. This (seeing the ADA destroyed and hurt) affected Ranpo a lot (as he's one of the founder of it) and he wants to protect the members of the agency more than everything, so he decides to turn himself into a "demon" to fight fire with fire bc he considers Fyodor as a demon ("to that end, i will mould myself into a demon.").
Now we'll talk about the 3rd box : on this box we only have a black phylactery (speech bubble) with a "stained" background. The background prooves, with its patern, that what is told is violent, we can, for example, associate the stains with ink stains (with the whole thing ab the missing page of the manuscipt) or with blood stains (which works with violence and the "demon side" i was talking ab in the 1st part). The fact that the phylactery is black is also here to highlight the rough side of Ranpo's speech, it creates a contrast with the others speech bubbles which are white. Here Ranpo says "if you do not surrender, i'll publicly announce my current theory", first he uses "do not" instead of "don't" probably because the uncontracted version is scarier ; second he uses Mushitaro's public image to disturb him, probably because he saw how public image is important for Mushi and he knows that being a murderer isnt good for the image (nah shit Sherlock ?). The whole visiual thing ab this box is made to underline how Ranpo's sentence had a huge impact on Mushitaro and how aggressive it was to him => it's the biggest and most important part (with guilt) of Ranpo's manipulation.
And finally the big part, the 4th box : Ranpo is now shown fully with a faceless Fyodor behind (and above (which prooves that Fyodor surpassed and surpasses Ranpo in some way)) him (he's faceless to explain that we're talking ab what Fyodor represents and not him as a person). Also their capes are floating in the exact same way which shows the fact that at this specific moment they're acting the same way/using the same stratagem. Ranpo explains to Mushitaro that he used the ploy of a demon, ploy that is a dangerous ability and that he doesn't like to use but that he uses to protect the Agency against another demon (Fyodor).
Conclusion : So we can say that Ranpo isn't associated with Fyodor, he actually associates himself with him cause he decided to use the same tactic even if he doesn't agree with it (because he would use every stratagems, even the worst ones, to protect people he likes (here the Agency)).

I finished Bungo Stray Dogs yesterday!!!! Ngl, I’m sad it’s over!! X,D Thank goodness the manga will be updating in a few days!!!
Anyways!! I honestly really enjoyed it more then I expected to!! X3
