Bruno Mathsson
Svenska arkitekter och formgivare
Text ab Hedvig Hedqvist
Orosdi-Back, Stockholm 2014, 208 pages, 18 cm.,Swedish language, ISBN 9789186593773
euro 28,00
Small format paperback monograph in Swedish on the architect and designer Bruno Mathsson . Bruno Mathsson (1907-1988) is one of Swedens most well-known design internationally. With design classics such as the chairs”Pernilla” and ”T.102” he has found the way into many homes as well as public spaces. The American design critic Susan Slesin greeted Bruno Mathsson's return to the American design scene in the 70s with the opening of the Dux showroom on Manhattan. Mathsson's international career started with the World Expo in Paris in 1937 where his modern and functional furniture was discovered by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Naima Callenberg presented her on-going city-planning exhibition project with Röhsska Museet, which will open in the fall of 2020. Unfortunately for OhiO, she could not get into details on content and participating architects but she shared her process of curating and the process of her exhibition design. Her project was circling around her the notion of “discursive architecture” and she was mulling over the question: “how does one communicate a speculative project?”.
After the project was presented a discussion around the question Naima posed became alive as the group delved into communication platforms from the on-the-site exhibition as well as websites or beyond. Another notable discussion was around the role of the architect as being both a draftsperson, a visionary, and a discursive architect.

JUST ADDED! Unmaking Democratic Design: Fredrik Paulsen Available at www.draw-down.com Exhibition catalog for Unmaking Democratic Design: Frederick Paulsen, an exhibition at Sweden's Röhsska Museum. Designer Frederick Paulsen was commissioned by the Museum to interpret the notion of Democratic Design. He chose to design a chair for the purpose. And visitors to the 2019 exhibition were invited to create their own chairs alongside guest designers. The catalog features custom letterforms designed by London-based design studio Europa for the visual identity of the exhibition; the type is constructed as if built out of planks of wood, showing how the results of a restrictive logic can lead to an intuitive solution. The bespoke type is matched by the use of Risograph printing and spot colors throughout the catalog, which references Paulsen's process, coloring wood with pigments and dyes to create brightly colored furniture. #JohanDeurell #AndreaErlandsson #SaraKristofferson #Europa #Risograph #Design https://www.instagram.com/p/B7BSyKNn7kv/?igshid=1jk7ajww7pgua

From underground to institution (and back)
mattiasgunnarsson
During the Gothenburg Design Festival 2019 I set up a small zine exhibition at Röhsska Design Museum in Gothenburg as a part of the WeavingLab symposium and its documentation. It contained a stack of mini-zines from my own collection (from trading zines for several years) and the latest donations to HDK Zine Archive. On Friday that week we had a lecture / talk / conversation about the Zine as a format and the possibilities of self-publishing in the context of research, institutional- and artistic practice in the Studio at Röhsska. An informal setting in couches with participants Martin Born @helsinkidesignlibrary and symposium organisers Rosa Tolnov Clausen and Emelie Rönndahl
